Unicron has managed to amass plenty of toys, many of them unproduced.

Toys
Generation 1
* Unicron (Hasbro)

:An unproduced toy for Unicron was to have been released in Generation 1. It was a blue and yellow robot about one foot tall and was able to transform into a planet. It was to have come with a voice chip and a "planet microphone" to allow owners to speak through the toy. It also would have had a gun that became a stand for the planet mode and a blue "shield" that unfolded and covered the yellow part of his chest in planet mode. It bears an uncanny physical resemblance to Orson Welles. This figure had a public "debut" of sorts at 1996, where it was mistransformed, but later convention appearances would feature it accurately transformed.

: Though the prototype had the tallest robot mode at the time of its planned release, it was ultimately shorter than Fortress Maximus.

canceledtoy

* Unicron (Takara)

: Takara was to release a toy similar to Hasbro's attempt, but it was green and yellow, possessing different paint operations and molding. It also was to come with a base that set up a "planetary system" with Unicron and a moon culled from movie preproduction materials that did...something. So far, this version of the toy has been shown only through Takara print materials.

: The placement of yellow is identical to the early art of Unicron which labels him "The Entity." Additionally, he appears to sport a Decepticon rubsign. Assuming the rubsign is the same size as every other one, Takara's version of Unicron is considerably smaller than Hasbro's.

*Unicron (Supreme, 2010)
**Accessories: 6 missiles, giant chest-missile

:A retool of Supreme Class Armada Unicron toy (see below), this Unicron is given a new head and an animated film-inspired deco. He retains all of his original gimmicks, including electronics. His Mini-Con partner, Bug, is still included.

: This set is only available in Japan as a Toy Hobby Market exclusive, with orders being taken from June 1st through July 4th. The toy was released at the end of September 2010. Unicron is part of Takara's Transformers 2010 anniversary celebration, and he includes two "points" redeemable towards a talking stand for Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy.

: This Unicron utilizes parts from both versions of Armada Unicron, having wings from the initial release, but hinged shoulder plates with holes on the backs for pegs from the slightly retooled version.

Beast Wars
* Unicron

: Takara tried again to produce a Unicron toy during Beast Wars Neo (as the character figured prominently to the endings of both the cartoon and manga), only going as far as the resin prototype stage before canceling it. It was said to be around the size of "Optimal Optimus" and had several gimmicks, such as an opening robot mouth when the horns were squeezed, and a claw and a drill that were stored in the planet "shell" in robot mode. One hard copy was shown at the Tokyo Toy Fair. Fans attempted to lobby for an unassembled, unpainted, and likely one-color "garage kit" version of the toy, but this never came to be...probably because the cost per unit would have been several hundred dollars.

: Interestingly enough, neither the cartoon nor manga version of Neo Unicron looked like the toy.

*Unicron with Mini-Con Dead End (Supreme, 2003)
** Japanese ID number: MX-00
**Accessories: 6 missiles, giant chest-missile

: Unicron from the Armada toyline is an orange and transparent purple Supreme-size toy that transforms into a planet. It features many Mini-Con Powerlinx plugs on the planet's rings, and "chomping" jaws activated by moving the mandibles. The packed-in Mini-Con Dead End in moon-mode plugs into a specially shaped socket on Unicron's planet form, just above his gaping maw. Powerlinx plugs on his sides activate the triple spring-loaded missile launchers, which end up on his robot mode legs. In robot mode, he has hidden compartments for Mini-Cons in his robot-mode legs and abdomen. One Powerlinx plug on the back of the robot mode activates blinking eye lights and a cannon that bursts from the chest and shoots a missile. A button on the top of the head also activates the blinking eye lights. Pushing his right hand back slightly into the cuff causes it to light up.

:In total, the toy can hold up to 27 Mini-Cons in planet mode and 30 in robot mode—34 if you count the two conveniently shaped pegs on the back of his right hand and if a Mini-Con is stored in the compartment on each leg. 24 of the Powerlinx points are situated on his wings/planet ring.
:That's a lot of Mini-Cons!

: This toy is notable for being the first "modern" Transformers release in the main line at the $50-price point. Due to his success, other releases like Energon Omega Supreme came into being.

: The Takara release of Unicron uses a lighter orange, slightly more transparent plastic, and different paint applications than the Hasbro version.

: The toy had a minor running change where a slot and tab were added to the shoulder and wing column, respectively, to keep the rings more firmly in place in planet mode. Early publicity photos and some catalog shots also show that the two nubs on either outside edge of the shoulders were originally full-fledged spikes, dulled down for safety.

: This mold was used to make the Mini-Con doppelganger of Unicron.
**Accessories: 6 missiles, giant chest-missile

: Unicron's Armada toy was redecoed for the Energon toyline, sporting black and transparent orange, with "Energon damage" patterns, representing his shattered and damaged form. All of the gimmicks from the previous version are intact in this one. The color scheme itself is an homage to a Japanese-only inflatable store display. That's right, $50 to look like a 20-year-old balloon from the other side of the world.

: Early shipments of Unicron in Energon packaging shipped with either the orange Armada Unicron or the black Energon Unicron inside, in seemingly equal amounts for a short while. Eventually, the orange version was phased out and black was the only shipping version.
: Available in one of two different European-market McDonald's Happy Meal promotions, this Unicron toy is based on Energon Unicron, being primarily black. It is very small, and the transformation consists of simply opening the planet mode to reveal the robot.

: When his Energon cube is clicked into position, the cube's power switch set to "on," and the toy's button depressed, his body lights up.

: Unicron in the Cybertron line is a Deluxe-class toy that transforms into a futuristic tank. In robot mode, he sports a battle-damaged appearance, with his head featuring a skull-like design mimicking the Unicron head that comes with Cybertron Primus. In both tank and robot modes, he features a main cannon with spring-loaded missile launcher, plus plugging a Cyber Planet Key into his back end opens up a port on his front (which bears a striking similarity to his planet maw) that reveals a (non-firing) triple-barreled cannon. His side-spikes in tank mode can be removed to become hand-weapons in robot mode.

: He includes a Planet X-style Cyber Planet Key, with the Key Code "dgt3" on the back. He is the first Unicron toy to be placed with the Decepticon faction for the purposes of marketing.

: Certain shipments of Cybertrons Cybertron Primus toy had a pack-in Unicron head. The head is based on Armada Unicron's, with half of the face stripped away to reveal a robotic "skull". To provide the impression of locomotion, tentacles were added to the base of the head.

: The packaging for this variation of Primus was specifically changed with a callout for the Unicron head. This was originally supposed to be the first version of the Primus toy shipped, and only for a limited time, but both versions ended up shipping simultaneously, leading to some hunting to get the packed-in Uniskull.
He was sold as a Toys"R"Us exclusive. As with all Unicron products produced by Hasbro since Cybertron Unicron, he is placed in the Decepticon faction. Once again, the on-box bio profile describes Unicron's nature as a multiversal singularity.

:Made in honor of the 25th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, the 2010 Transformers toyline's Unicron is, ironically enough, a comic-inspired redeco of TakaraTomy's "Welcome to 2010" Unicron release. It is now cast in metallic gray and gold-ish orange, as well as a muted blue. It comes with the Mini-Con Kranix and is exclusive to Amazon.com and also at Toys"R"Us in Canada, while being available at general retail in parts of Southeast Asia.
: Ark Unicron is a straight redeco of the Deluxe-Class Cybertron Unicron toy and is, for some reason, packaged in a Voyager-Class box. He is redecoed in the comic-inspired colors of the 2010 Transformers Unicron figure, replacing his orange plastic with a darker, metallic shade, his dark gray with a muted blue, and his tan with gray. Unicron has managed to amass plenty of toys, many of them unproduced.

Toys
Generation 1
* Unicron (Hasbro)

: Though the prototype had the tallest robot mode at the time of its planned release, it was ultimately shorter than Fortress Maximus.

canceledtoy

* Unicron (Takara)

Assuming the rubsign is the same size as every other one, Takara's version of Unicron is considerably smaller than Hasbro's.

canceledtoy

Beast Wars
* Unicron

: Interestingly enough, neither the cartoon nor manga version of Neo Unicron looked like the toy.

canceledtoy

Armada

*Unicron (Supreme, 2004)

*Cybertron Primus (Supreme, 2006)

: Downshift is an Autobot from the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Downshift doesn't say much, but apparently he's really easy to confuse for other guys. He's all about action, learning what he can from Earth's kung-fu movies. Apparently this has done well for him, as he even has a fembot lifebond partner.

Fiction
Energon comic
Downshift was one of many Autobots assembled by Jetfire when Earth was invaded by the Terrorcons. He joined Prowl in Tokyo, Japan fighting against a horde of Cruellock drones. Multiplicity

Cartoon continuity
Energon cartoon
:Voice actor: Ty Olsson (English), Makoto Yasumura (Japanese), Carl Utbult (Swedish)

Downshift was a rookie solder sent into the rift, along with his partner Cliffjumper, to locate Optimus Prime and his scattered crew. Protection They searched fruitlessly for some time over several planets and asteroids. Imprisoned Inferno Eventually, the duo found the Autobots' trail on Iron Planet. There they were joined by their assigned field commander, Bulkhead. The old coot's eccentric cackling really got on Downshift's nerves, but he respected the chain of command. The three Autobots tracked their comrades down to Jungle Planet, where the Decepticons were attacking. Downshift demonstrated that he possessed a Spark of Combination by Powerlinxing with Hot Shot and Inferno in turn. Jungle Planet (episode)

Downshift and a crew of Autobots made their way back towards Cybertron in order to get the energon towers necessary to defend the energon-rich planets beyond the rift. They were attacked en route by a squadron of Divebombs, but Downshift and Hot Shot broke off from the others and made their way through the rift. Thanks to the power of teamwork, they were able to destroy the Terrorcons who pursued them, and transformed to speed off to Cybertron as fast as their wheels could carry them while spinning in the void of space. Uh. On Cybertron, Downshift learned that crazy, cackling old men pop up in a variety of species. After securing an energon tower from Doctor Jones, they returned to Jungle Planet and activated the tower, driving off the Decepticon invaders. Bulkhead (episode)

Downshift and Hot Shot continued to oversee the arrival of more energon towers for Alpha Q's planets, including the replacement tower called in for Ocean Planet at the original was destroyed by Mirage. They powerlinked in order to hold off the Insecticons attacking the tower. Farewell Inferno On Planet Q, Downshift and Hot Shot joined forces again to protect Alpha Q's resurrected world from the greedy Terrorcons. Return! Our Scorponok

In the Autobot Grand Prix, Downshift was one of the more heated competitors. He trash-talked with Ironhide before the race, and held onto second place behind Hot Shot until losing control and causing the first pile-up. Unlike Prowl, Downshift was largely unconcerned with the injuries he caused in the pile-up, and took the first opportunity to abandon Prowl and the others to get back in the race. Crash Course

When Megatron finally got Unicron up and running, Downshift joined the Autobots for an all-out assault on the Planet-Eater. Omega Supreme (episode) As the battle continued, Downshift and Roadblock competed against Starscream on the surface of Unicron. The Autobots fought and failed to prevent Unicron from reclaiming Alpha Q's energon orb as his head, and the dark creature was made whole once more. A Heroic Battle Eventually the fighting became too severe, and the Autobots were forced to retreat to a safe distance while Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme prepared to battle Unicron personally. The Power of Unicron Unicron demonstrated his awesome power by consuming Blizzard Planet entirely. The Autobots were forced to struggle against the energy vortex he created, as entire chunks of the planet flew at them through space. Downshift and a half-dozen other Autobots were too seriously injured at this point to continue the war. They were placed in stasis chambers aboard the Miranda II in order to repair. Optimus Supreme

After Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme apparently won the war against Unicron, Downshift and the other damaged Autobots were taken back to Cybertron to complete their regeneration cycles. Ambition

In a virtual training program, Downshift and Prowl were made tag-team partners. Unfortunately, they didn't properly coordinate their Powerlinx, and ended up combining as two tops with no bottom. Their opponents, Demolishor and Snow Cat, were just about as stupid, but managed to defeat the squabbling Autobots anyway. Distribution

As Bulkhead, Downshift and Prowl were recuperating, Cybertron was conquered by Galvatron, who flooded the surface with energon gas that repelled the Autobots back into space. A small team managed to infiltrate the planet through an opening in the gas, after which Ironhide and *snicker* Team Ironhide were dispatched to rescue Downshift and the others. Eager for news about what had been happening while they were inactive, Downshift and Prowl pummeled Ironhide with questions, until he finally yelled at them to shut up and let him talk. Taking to the streets, Downshift and the others met up with Optimus Prime in battle with Galvatron, and the Autobots were fully assembled for the first time since the war with Unicron. Decepticon Army Reunited with their crazy ol' commander, Cliffjumper and Downshift joined Bulkhead in a daring rush on the Decepticon position. Later, when Six Shot set off an eruption in the energon gas pipeline, they were pulled to safety by Superion Maximus. Although damaged, Downshift and the others resolutely continued to fight, assaulting the energon towers to prevent Cybertron from destroying the planets it was passing by through space. Formidable

The Autobots had just reclaimed the control center for Cybertron when Galvatron bathed fully in the Super Energon pool, rapidly growing to Unicron size. Downshift, Cliffjumper and Hot Shot went out to lend aid to Team Rodimus in the field. Even Powerlinked, however, Downshift and Hot Shot were outgunned by the amassed Decepticon soldiers. Destructive Power As the enormous Galvatron began towing Cybertron out into space, Downshift and the other Autobots continued to war with the Decepticons, fluttering around Galvatron like skirmishing insects. Downshift spent most of the battle Powerlinked to Hot Shot, but they eventually separated as Optimus Prime assumed responsibility for the fight, funneling the power of Unicron himself in order to defeat the possessed Galvatron. Spark (episode)

Prime could not overcome Unicron on his own, however, and needed the Combination Sparks of all his fellow Autobots to face the final conflict. Downshift willingly stepped forward to give up his individuality for the greater good of the team. His body was converted into pure energy as he became one with his spark, so that it could in turn become one with all the other Combination Sparks, revitalizing Optimus. Filled with the strength of all his men, Optimus united with Omega Supreme in the ultimate Powerlinx, grappling with Galvatron until the Decepticon leader shrugged off Unicron's influence and plunged into the sun. Downshift and the other Autobots then separated, and were restored to their individual forms. The Sun

Cybertron comic
After the evacuation of Cybertron due to the threat of the Unicron Singularity, some soldiers chose to stay behind. Downshift was one of these brave souls, and he guarded the Spark Core Access Tunnels that led to Primus's inner chambers. While on duty, Downshift was attacked by Ramjet and Nemesis Prime, impaled to a wall by one of the latter's harpoon missiles. Balancing Act, Part 4 Vector Prime and Cybertron's other defenders had to deal with the "melty, evil guy", so Downshift stayed up on the wall a little longer than he would have liked. Balancing Act, Pt 5

After these grave injuries, Downshift was repaired and reformatted by a worker drone into a new muscle car form. Revelations Part 2

He later joined Sentinel Maximus, Omega Prime and Skyfall in lending assistance to the Mini-Con asteroid colonies during a revolt. Revelations Part 4 Things turned a bit more serious when Unicron himself showed up with his herald, Soundwave. Revelations Part 5 Downshift and his comrades managed to hold off the Chaos-Bringer until Primus made himself known, and the now bite-sized Unicron beat a hasty retreat. After the Unicron Singularity was finally dealt with, Downshift and his new friends took off in the hopes of meeting the Devil face-to-face once again. Revelations Part 6

During Downshift's maturation between the the Powerlinx Battles and the arrival of the Unicron Singularity, Hot Shot became his new mentor. Eventually, Downshift becomes a civilian on Earth, living with his female lifebond partner in Rhode Island. Cyber Key Codes

: Cybertron Downshift is a green sports car that combines elements from two different design trends of various 1970s era muscle and pony cars, namely the "zigzag"-style front grille and bumper found on models like the first generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo, the 1974 Ford Gran Torino, and the 1974-1977 Dodge Monaco, and the rear section, hood vent and "base color with black hood and black stripes on the side" deco of cars such as the 1970 T/A Dodge Challenger, the 1970 AAR Plymouth Barracuda, and the 1970 Boss 302 Ford Mustang. The car also features an exposed supercharger engine on the hood and a sculpted roof textured like vinyl roof applications from the 1960s and 70s.

: Inserting a Cyber Key into a flip-up slot in his rear window activates a claw from the car's grill. This feature is also available in robot mode. He comes with two large spring-loaded missile launchers, which can be mounted on his side-panels in car mode, or be used in robot mode as hand-held blasters or mounted on his shoulders.

: While Downshift's Wheeljack-modeled head in this form is not surprising, he still retains his Lancia-grill feet. Funky.

: Downshift suffers from a design flaw: Even though the head has an articulation joint, it's rendered useless because the ridges on the chest (the air vents in vehicle mode) get in the way in both directions.

: Downshift's Cyber Key has the Cyber Key Code dm8r printed on the back.

: This mold was also used to make Movie Big Daddy, which was then repurposed into Shattered Glass Big Daddy.
Notes
* As referenced above, the Energon cartoon switched Cliffjumper and Downshift's names around for the majority of the series. More often than not, the white robot would end up being called Cliffjumper, in defiance of the toy names. It also seemed as if the two characters randomly switched voice actors from episode to episode.
* There are some apparent contradictions between the character information for various Downshift toys provided by Hasbro: While the unlocked Cyber Key code content for Cybertron Deluxe Class Downshift reveals that he has been "separated from his fembot lifebond partner" during the evacuation of Cybertron, and subsequently "spent every waking hour looking [for her]" on Earth, the on-package bio for the KB Toys exclusive Universe Downshift states that he stayed behind on Cybertron following the evacuation of the planet and is "perfectly at home on the desolate and damaged planet" since he is "a loner by nature". Since the Cyber Key content was often heavily tongue-in-cheek, it's hard to say if it's really supposed to be "canon"; on the other hand, the entire multiversal nature of the original Universe line makes it perfectly possible that the KB exclusive Downshift hails from a splinter timeline of the Unicron Trilogy where he never had a "lifebond fembot partner".
*The Japanese version of the character was to be called "Downshift" (ダウンシフト Daunshifuto), like the English version, till he was renamed "Wheeljack" in accordance with the homage he became during the design phase.
:The Sparkbots are a Herald of Unicron subgroup from the Kiss Players portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Sparkbots (スパークボット Supākubotto) are a trio of Transformers who claim to be servants of Primus, but their true allegiance is to Primus' dark opposite, Unicron. They transform from small glowing spheres into significantly larger robots of various configurations. They have the ability to fly, communicate telepathically, and apparently also to travel through time when their abilities are activated by a kiss. They mostly make grinding noises when they speak out loud.

The group's members are:

*Angela
*Star Dust
*Zangetsu
Kiss Players Position
In the year 2006 or 2007, the Sparkbots suddenly appeared in the sky before the "Kiss Players" singing group at the Brave Maximus Fortress concert of their world tour. They introduced themselves to the performers telepathically and insisted that the three humans in the group kiss them.

When Atari Hitotonari, Shaoshao Li and Marissa Faireborn complied, they were engulfed by a bright light and Brave Maximus was transported back to the Sherman Dam in the year 1985. The Autobot commander Optimus Prime was there, but could not see the time travellers as they observed him.

The Sparkbot Angela commanded Marissa to kiss her and the glowing pink sphere transformed into a lion. Flying close to Prime with Marissa on her back, she told the human to kiss the Autobot. When she did, a fragment of the Allspark emerged from his chest. As the travellers retrieved it, Angela ordered their return to the present day. The Sparkbots continued to lead the Kiss Players from one point in time and space to the next. At each destination, they encountered a famous Autobot or Maximal leader and kissed him to extract a fragment of the Allspark.

Following a perilous adventure on the planet Quintessa, the Kiss Players decided to decorate their new friends with symbols of their own devising. The Sparkbots' only response was to make grinding noises, leaving the girls undecided as to whether or not they approved.

As the team came closer to reaching their goal, a mysterious giant golden hand started appearing from nowhere and taking the Allspark fragments before the Kiss Players and Sparkbots could collect them.

When the hand was discovered to belong to Primus himself, the true purpose and allegiance of the Sparkbots was at last revealed: they were agents of evil, and what the Kiss Players had been collecting were not fragments of the Allspark at all, but Angolmois energy, the life force of Unicron! In fact, it had been the Sparkbots who redirected Galvatron's path toward Earth when he was originally fated to crash on Thrull, thus causing the destruction of Tokyo and all of the events that resulted from that catastrophe.

Fleeing back in time to prehistoric Earth with their precious prize, the Sparkbots released the Angolmois energy that they had collected. Unicron was reborn!

In a mighty struggle, Primus succeeded in destroying Unicron once more, confining both his dark energy and the Sparkbots beneath the surface of the planet and creating Brave Maximus as a mighty guardian to watch over them. Kiss Players (radio drama)
