* Many of the ''Star Wars'' bios are worded in a way that sounds as though the characters ''themselves'' are turning into spaceships. However, several others make a distinction between the character and the vehicle, and all of those toys come with mini-figures of the actual pilots/drivers. (In contrast, the Marvel bios are unambiguous about the mechs being mere suits, but no pilot/driver figures are included.)
* The term "mech" has also been used in some ''Transformers'' fiction as a substitute for "person" when talking about a robot. The ''[[Transformers Timelines (fiction)|Timelines]]'' text stories in particular tend to employ this usage, as well as the ''[[Transformers: Micromasters|Micromasters]]'' comic series. In [[Venus (magazine)|one unique instance]], "mech" has also been used to denote a "male robot" (as opposed to a "femme"/"female robot"). This usage is incorrect, as it goes against the definition of mech/mecha.

'''Shōji Kawamori''' (河森正治 ''Kawamori Shōji'') is a renowned [[Japan]]ese mechanical designer. He was born [[February 2]], [[1960]], in Toyama Prefecture.

He was one of the designers working for [[Takara]] on ''[[Diaclone]]'' and is known to have contributed to the design of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Battle Convoy]] amongst others. However, he is most famous for creating and writing ''[[Wikipedia:The Super Dimension Fortress Macross|Super Dimension Fortress Macross]]'' as well as having designed the transforming VF-1 Valkyrie fighter jet/mecha and other mechanical design for the series, and for his work on ''Escaflowne'' and ''Eureka 7''. A toy version of the Valkyrie was later used as the Transformer [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]].

Kawamori has recently returned to the ''Transformers'' franchise, supervising the design of a [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#Hybrid Style|G1 Optimus Prime toy]] for Takara's ''Transformers [[Hybrid Style]]'' line, and a highly detailed [[Starscream (G1)/toys#Masterpiece|Starscream]] for the ''[[Masterpiece]]'' line.
