Notes
* According to a magazine advertisement for the convention, story editor Larry DiTillio, Hasbro representatives Vinnie D'Alleva and Todd Wise, and voice actors Susan Blu, Garry Chalk, Frank Welker were originally scheduled to attend. None of them ended up making the convention, but Welker sent an audiotaped message to the attending fans.

*The same advertisement put the convention in Kendallville, Indiana rather than Rochester, New York.

* Until he was invited to BotCon 1997, Simon Furman was unaware there was a Transformers fandom! As a result, he allowed himself to forget everything he'd done and was unprepared for an in-depth Q&A session: "I was floundering, and often had to resort to a lame ‘sorry, I don’t remember.’ It was a nightmare... I made damn sure that by the time the 1998 Botcon rolled around I’d re-read/revisited practically everything I’d ever written."
* This year marked the first time a professional comic artist was commissioned to provide original promotional art for Botcon as well as the publishing of an exclusive comic. Both would continue to remain staples of BotCon.
BotCon 1999 was held at the St. Paul RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul, overlooking the Mississippi River.
Fiction
* "Reaching the Omega Point", a text story bound in with the convention program. 22 pages. Part 1 had been sent out as a preview in pre-registrant packets.
* Convention attendees were shown an early screening of the first Beast Machines episode, "The Reformatting". The episode was so freshly finished that the music soundtrack had finished its final mixing just the night before. Response was overwhelmingly positive, so much so that a second screening was arranged a few hours later.

Other
* Optimus Prime and Megatron lithograph prints, composited from hundreds of Generation 1 cartoon still shots.
* Four different watches with leather wristbands each bearing a different faction sigil (G1 Autobot, G1 Decepticon, Maximal, and Predacon) on their faces were available on the pre-reg forms and randomly assigned to each attendee. A fifth watch bearing the Transformers logo was available only in a gift set at the convention.
Events
Although not specifically listed on the Program Schedule, a Trivia Contest utilizing a custom Transformer-themed "Trivial Pursuit" board ran both Saturday and Sunday with teams of two competing for a set of framed original
Beast Wars renderings specially commissioned from Mainframe. Each contained a group portrait of either the Maximals or Predacons. Due to the expensive nature of these pieces (over $1000 each according to Glen Hallit) for the first time at BotCon there was an entry fee of $10 for the contest.

Friday
* Afternoon: preregistration packet pick-up
* Evening: an informal pizza dinner gathering, with a welcome from Glen, Karl and Jon, an introduction of the two voice actor guests, and the unveiling of two exclusive lithographs of Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Saturday
*10:00am: Doors open. Video room begins with "The Agenda" Parts 1-3 and "Optimal Situation" begins airing in the video room.
*12:00pm: Fan Panel #1
*1:00pm: Hasbro/Mainframe presentation, including screening of "The Reformatting"
*3:00pm: Miscellaneous Video Showcase, highlighting other works by Jim Byrnes and Scott McNeil
*5:00pm: Fan Panel Number 2

* Ian Corlett was scheduled to be a guest but had to cancel on short notice due to the birth of his new son.

* The audio for the Beast Machines pilot was completed on Friday and a copy shipped overnight to BotCon via Federal Express so that fans could see it the following day. How's that for dedication?

*1999 marked the first year that Hasbro allowed 3H to use existing trademarks for their exclusives.

* It also marked the first and last time a convention-exclusive toy was offered in a sealed bubble on a card since the packaging would be ruined upon opening.

* BotCon 1999 actually made money as previous BotCons had been less than profitable.

* The location of next year's BotCon was announced in advance at the Wrap-Up Panel. Another first.

* Several people were injured after being nearly trampled in the Dealer's Room by greedy fans clamoring for a free Snapdragon. As a result, the "free toy toss" tradition started by a couple of dealers in the last few hours of BotCon was discontinued.

* Some selfish bastard stole one of the convention center's "announcement" signboards for BotCon. 3H was forced to pay for it out-of-pocket. May that douchenozzle rot in Hell for all eternity.

BotCon 1996 was held on July 12-14, 1996 in Rosemont, Illinois. It was the only convention overseen by Men in Black Productions, who inexplicably chose to infuse the convention with a Pulp Fiction theme. There were no guests aside from Hasbro/Kenner representatives George Boznos and Anthony Gaud.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, MiB held a "birthday party" featuring a screening of the film on a wide-screen TV and a birthday cake. A very generic birthday cake. The sealed VHS copy of The Movie—opened just for the occasion—did not actually work, although MiB were somehow able to acquire another, functional copy from an attendee after several minutes. Unfortunately, that did not alleviate the fact they neglected to produce forks for the cake. Also, water was served as a drink out of a McDonald's keg (not even that cheap orange drink they normally use).

The dealer room opened to the dealers for setup hours late, and was opened to "early bird" pass holders almost immediately afterwards. Dennis Barger of Men in Black assured dealers that their wares would be safe in the convention hall overnight, as he would be sleeping in there to ensure nobody would intrude.

No lanyards were available to dealers or attendees. Identification was done via generic "HI MY NAME IS _______" stickers, which the staff ran out of by day two, resulting in people just waltzing in unchecked by the end of the show.

Needless to say, Men in Black was not brought back to participate in 1997.

Merchandise
The exclusive toy was the Predacon Onyx Primal, whose "bio" continued the unofficial Pulp Fiction association of the event by being a slight rewording of a quote from the film. A "Dealer Exclusive" variant of Onyx (which was the same toy with "BOTCON '96 DEALER EXCLUSIVE" on its back) was also made available only to dealers; this would be the first and last time such a thing was attempted at BotCon.

Displays
The art room did feature many unreleased Transformers toys that have rarely or never been seen since (good thing they were photographed for the BotCon Legends fanzine!). These prototypes were:
* One of the Generation 1 Unicron toys
* Two unproduced Action Master vehicles
* An unproduced Micromaster base
* The "Double Pretenders", a gorilla-shell and spider-shell duo.
* A preliminary version of the Pretender Groundbreaker.
* Greasepit and the Go-Bots Racing Rig.
Events
Friday
Friday was mainly for pre-registration check-in. However, those with a "dealer day pass" (an extra fee tagged on to the pre-registration fee) could enter the dealer room from 7pm to 9pm. As dealers had been let in late to begin with, this caused much chaos.

Other major events included...

* A Transformers: The Movie-themed "birthday party" (see above) at 9pm.

* A showing of The Transformers: The Movie at 9:30pm.

Saturday
Once again, a "Dealer Day Pass" was instituted, whereby pre-registrations who paid extra could get into the dealer room at 7am (as opposed to the 9am general opening). Other events included:

* A special showing of "Beast Wars (Part 1)" and "Beast Wars (Part 2)".

* A Kenner "presentation".

* A toy variations panel held by Jon and Karl Hartman.

* A fanzine panel.

* Another showing of The Transformers: The Movie.

The dealer room was open until 6pm.

Sunday
No "Dealer Day Pass" was offered for this day. Events included:

* A "How to Repair Your Transformers Toys" panel by Bob Bowman and Harry Tietjens.

* Another showing of the Beast Wars pilot episodes.

* A "1997 International Transformers Convention" panel held by Dennis Barger and The Men-In-Black.

* A "Foreign Non-Toy Items" panel held by Tony Preto.

* A Transformers Quiz Show, followed by an announcement of contest winners and prizes.

* A Toys For Tots charity auction, which included several unreleased Generation 2 Go-Bots, ATB Megatron/Starscream, and Combat Heroes Optimus Prime and Megatron. MiB raised over $5000 and donated 100 Onyx Primals to the charity as well.

The dealer closed at 4pm, and the convention shut down entirely at 5pm.
:Double Punch is a Decepticon and Predacon from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Highly aggressive and even more foul-mouthed, the only thing Double Punch loves more than a good act of violence is the planning that goes into the next one. This hulking brute was forged from the most durable metal alloys from the desert regions of Cybertron and has a specialty for desert combat... though he's pretty good at combat all-around, what with killing and destruction being his chief interests. If his gladiatorial matches end too quickly, he has been known to demolish parts of the arena and any unfortunate spectators around him. When employed as an assassin, Double Punch likes to lay low his targets in broad daylight, the better to spread public awareness of his skill.

He is cunning and cynical, taking both sides of any argument just to stir others up and advance his own position regardless of who wins.

Double Punch's only weakness is his arrogant battle-lust, which can get him into situations that are beyond even his power levels.

Fiction
Wings Universe
Under the command of Clench, Double Punch aided in the assault of the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland and in the process captured Autobot leader Pyro. He chose to bask in his victory by idle target-shooting and recounting to his colleagues how boldly he had rejected the disgusting suggestion of becoming a Headmaster — though with his cockney accent they couldn't fully follow his meaning. When Scorch and the Go-Bots showed up on a rescue mission, Double Punch eagerly welcomed them with obscene words and gestures... but soon found it hard to defend himself against so many quick and small opponents. He also found himself being thoroughly thrashed by Pyro, whose new Forestonite-spawned power to see the future gave him an unbeatable combat edge. When the Autobots gained a decisive upper hand and leveled the facility that the 'Cons had been trying to secure, Double Punch decided he had had enough and fled the scene. Generation 2: Redux

:As an Action Master Elite, Double Punch is one of the few figures in the Action Master line that can actually transform to some limited extent, in this case transforming into a scorpion... with two tails. He has a claw-arm-raking action gimmick in both modes, pressing a button on his torso causes his claw arms to rotate back and forth at the shoulders.

:Double Punch, as with the other Action Master Elites, was only released in Europe and Australasia.

:Like most Action Master Elites, Double Punch appears to be an homage to a pre-existing Generation 1 character. His color scheme, molded detail and transformation strongly resemble BlackZarak. He is also the only Action Master based on a Japanese-exclusive character.
: A redeco of Scorponok, Double Punch transforms into a large scorpion. His tail features a spring-loaded "jabbing" action, while each claw hides a spring-loaded gimmick. The right (robot mode) claw launches the observation drone Beeline, while the left hides a dual missile launcher activated by opening his claw wide. Aside from his normal robot-mode head, he also has a "mutant mask". Double Punch was an exclusive at Japan 1998, and only 600 pieces were made.

: While his fellow BotCon Japan 1998 exclusive Grizzly-1 was based on the unused pre-release coloration for that mold, Double Punch was given his blood-red colors, rather than the more orange pre-release colors for Scorponok, because it was felt that coloration was more "traditional" to scorpions in Japanese culture.

: His new function, "Killer Elite," is a reference to his prior status as an Action Master Elite.

: The mold was later used to make Beast Wars Sandstorm.
Double Punch transforms into a fanciful construction vehicle that resembles a mechanical scorpion, with two articulated bucket scoop arms that resemble pincers, along with an articulated crane arm that resembles a scorpion's stinger. Double Punch can also transform into a hover jet mode. He retains Scorponok's firing missiles and flip-out tail cannons, but lacks electronics.

:Double Punch is made from the original Energon version of the Scorponok mold, with none of the retooled features of Dark Scorponok.

Hasbro is a toy company, and owner of the Transformers brand in most markets outside of Japan, where it is owned by TakaraTomy.

History
Hasbro was originally founded in 1923 as "Hassenfeld Brothers" by brothers Henry and Helal Hassenfeld from Rhode Island. The company originally sold textile remnants, but soon moved into manufacturing pencil boxes and school supplies.
In 1952, Hasbro first rose to fame with a little toy called Mr. Potato Head. You might have heard of it. The company went so far as to purchase advertising time for the toy on a newfangled invention called television. You might have heard of that, too.

In 1964, Hasbro had an even greater success with the original G.I. Joe toy designed by Don Levine, which caused Hassenfeld Bros. to grow to be one of the largest toy companies in the USA. In 1968, the company would change its name to "Hasbro Industries, Inc."

Through a series of importing licenses and spin-offs, G.I. Joe ultimately led to the Microman and Diaclone toylines by Japanese toymaker Takara, which in turn would lead to Hasbro's release of the original Transformers toyline in 1984. At that time, Hasbro was employing the services of Marvel Comics and the advertising agency Griffin Bacal, who helped them come up with new marketing strategies and background stories for their toylines, including the revamped G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and The Transformers.

In 1984, Hasbro also bought out a competing toy company named Milton Bradley (MB), which resulted in the merged company briefly assuming the name "Hasbro Bradley, Inc." After the merger was completed, the company changed its name into simply "Hasbro, Inc." Milton Bradley's European facilities would also be used to distribute the initial wave of Transformers toys to be released in Europe before the merger was completed. Later in the '80s, Hasbro would go on to release other toy brands such as Visionaries, My Little Pony, Inhumanoids, Robotix, Jem, and Battle Beasts — the latter eventually becoming closely (if strangely) related to Transformers.

In 1991, Hasbro bought out former competitor Tonka—which by that point in time already owned another former Hasbro competitor, Kenner, meaning that this acquisition added Star Wars to Hasbro's product portfolio. In the same year, Hasbro consolidated most of their international markets: Prior to this point, Hasbro subsidiaries such as the aforementioned Milton Bradley had still been responsible for distributing Transformers toys in some countries (even though the toys' packaging had sported the name "Hasbro" since 1986). Those subsidiaries were officially restructured and given the parent companies' name in an attempt to establish "Hasbro" as a worldwide household name.

In 1995 Hasbro temporarily transferred control of the Transformers franchise to its Kenner subsidiary, then phased out the Kenner brand in 2000.

In the new millennium, Hasbro, following Marvel's example, intends to reinvent itself as an "entertainment" company, Hasbro Studios. Instead of merely commissioning animated TV shows as advertising vehicles for their toys, Hasbro licenses its brands to Hollywood studios, which turn them into big budget blockbuster movies, using the toys' established household names as a marketing appeal. 2007's Transformers movie was the first of those feature films. The sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and a G.I. Joe movie were both released in 2009, and movies based on the successful board game Monopoly and Kenner's old Stretch Armstrong toy have also been confirmed. Hasbro believes that their new "the movie of the toy" strategy will be more lucrative than the old "the toy of the movie" concept, which involves hefty licensing fees.
Hasbro's regional offices
Hasbro has smaller offices all around the world, who are not involved in the production of toys, but rather take care of the customer relationships and marketing in their local regions. Known locations of local offices include Denmark (covering the whole nordic region), Canada, Germany (responsible for the distribution in continental Europe), the United Kingdom, France, Australia and New Zealand.

Relationship with fandom
Fandom's relationship with Hasbro is as paradoxical and confusing as our relationships with our parents. They are an incredible source of joy and happiness, as well as the focal point of rage and blame for pretty much everyone in the Transformers community. To much of the fandom, Hasbro's actual involvement in the Transformers franchise is rarely acknowledged when not negative. Many view their activities to consist entirely of:

* Slapping fans in the face.
* Getting things all wrong.
* Screwing up Takara's toys.
* Being lazy.
* Trying to make money.
* Ruining everything forever.

When they found the time to create and maintain a successful, celebrated franchise that was the basis of 26 years of obsession and happiness for the exact same fans is unknown.

Questionable brand decisions
* In the early days of the Generation 1 line's run, Hasbro was entirely focused on "product" and viewed the attached fiction as a mere marketing tool. As a consequence, they viewed "characters" as easily replacable, and their strategy at that time can be summed up as "new toys, new characters". Hasbro certainly didn't anticipate the audience actually to attach to the characters featured in the television show, and were utterly surprised by the fan backlash after nearly all of the 1984-85 cast had been graphically killed off in the animated movie and replaced by newly introduced characters. Hasbro now recognizes that this move was a mistake that hurt the brand. In Hasbro's defense, though, it needs to be pointed out that this wasn't a flawed approach unique to them, as the importance of recognizable characters for the public image of a brand was a novel concept to the toy industry as a whole at that time. Hasbro has learned their lesson, and now mostly kill relative nobodies, and rely a lot more heavily on recurring, recognizable characters across their various toylines and the corresponding fiction.

* Hasbro's corporate executives were eager to make the move to multilingual packaging for the United States market to save money, forcing that decision upon their Transformers staff. Although representatives were prepared with responses to fan complaints about how ugly and uninformative it was, the design team eventually managed to convince their higher-ups how ugly it was, so the US packaging returned to normal.

* At times, Hasbro has been willing to allow the broadcast of clearly incomplete or poorly-constructed advertising media.

* Hasbro often have their official promotional toy stock photography done by people (both internal and outsourced third party photo studios) who have a tendency to display the toys in awkwardly mistransformed states, sometimes so glaringly incorrect that the photos could be viewed as detrimental representations of Hasbro's products... yet they are used in official advertising, including Hasbro's public website and even on the toys' packaging. Reportedly, Hasbro has recently decided to send a member of the design team (at least an intern) along to the photo studio to transform and pose the toys properly.

* As the toys became more and more complex, Hasbro's official toy instructions became less and less helpful. Written directions were omitted entirely in favor of pictures-only instructions with the launch of the Armada line in 2002, and those pictures-only instructions have a tendency to omit useful steps, are sometimes unclear on vital details, and might occasionally be based on early prototypes that differ from the final toy, thereby including transformation steps that aren't possible with the toy in hand. Universe Sideswipe even recycled the instructions from his mold-mate Sunstreaker, even though Sideswipe was supposed to use an alternate transformation as compared to Sunstreaker.

* In the lead up to the 2007 live-action movie, to deal with the expected international audience for both the movie and the accompanying toys, Hasbro started to redirect visitors of their official Transformers website to localized versions of the site based upon their IPs. However, it was obvious that Hasbro's interest in their international markets was rather marginal, as demonstrated by the fact that many of these international localised sites were rarely updated, if at all; and if they were, the updates were still marginal, and the product lists remained incomplete. To the frustration of non-American fans, clicking any links to the US version of the site resulted in the user being automatically redirected to their outdated localized versions. Even bugs that allowed users to circumvent the redirect were eventually "fixed" in favor of an even more aggressive redirect. This was finally resolved for good in 2009, with the addition of a US-specific website URL that doesn't redirect anyone anywhere anymore.

* The somewhat more "mature" tone of the live action movies, Transformers (2007) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, especially the crude, often sexually-themed humor displayed in both films, has been the center of much controversy. In particular, a lobbyist group named the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood repeatedly tried to lobby the Federal Communications Commission into tightening regulations for marketing movies rated "PG-13" and associated merchandise to children. Hasbro themselves appear to be still undecided about their official position regarding the more "mature" tone of the movies and its ramifications for the brand's public image, having left several questions to this effect unanswered.

Home video
Hasbro has produced some home video releases as part of their marketing strategies. The earliest of these were VHS tapes of Beast Wars packed with Beast Wars toys. Subsequently, two different Beast Machines tapes, along with another Beast Wars tape, were produced as giveaways for KB Toys promotions wherein you would get a free tape for purchasing Beast Machines toys. The promotions were not terribly successful, leading to leftover tapes being disposed of in various ways including being sold by themselves. The last VHS tape bundled with a toy held the first two episodes of the Go-Bots cartoon and came with a Speed-Bot toy. Since then, Hasbro has produced a variety of pack-in DVDs.
Notes
* The Decepticon Flamewar collects Hasbro memorabilia.
* Hasbro isn't all about selling toys and making money. According to Transformers live-action movie writer Roberto Orci, some at Hasbro argued against updating some returning characters in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, so that parents would not have to buy the same toy twice for their children just because of a minor change or modification to the characters' designs. (We will just point out now that they still did that.)
* According to Hasbro Australia representatives and designer Eric Siebenaler, all of the Transformers toys jointly developed between Hasbro and Takara/TakaraTomy are manufactured at factories contracted to the Japanese toy company. This means Takara is indirectly responsible for whatever quality control problems you have been having with your toys, so you can stop complaining about it being entirely Hasbro's fault.
* Hasbro is the patron of the Hasbro Children's Hospital. See here for how the fandom contributed to it in 2010.
* In 2008, Hasbro purchased all rights to the library of Sunbow programming based on the toy company's brands, including the American Generation One Transformers cartoon and international rights to most of the televised Japanese Generation One canon.

Wings of Honor

* Double Punch's key adaptation to desert warfare is said to be his ability to withstand temperatures all the way up to 150 F. Yes, he is almost as powerful as an average teaspoon. There were probably supposed to be a few extra zeroes in the G1 profile writeup, but if that's the case, what excuse does Fun Publications have?

* The bio profiles for all three Double Punch toys reiterate his cynical cunning and penchant for playing both sides of an argument.

* Double Punch is one of only a few characters to receive multiple BotCon exclusive toys, sharing the distinction with Breakdown, Apelinq, Tigatron, and Shattered Glass Megatron/Galvatron. With his only non-BotCon toy having been released only in Europe and Australasia, he may be unique in the history of the Transformers brand in having gotten so many toy releases where each one was of such limited availability.
Clarence J. "Clancy" Brown (born January 5, 1959) is an American screen actor and voice actor. Frequently cast as a villain due to his imposing stature and deep voice, Brown is well-known to sci-fi fans as the sinister Kurgan in Highlander, and also portrayed prison guard Byron Hadley in the acclaimed The Shawshank Redemption, in addition to a plethora of other memorable roles. He has voiced a number of prominent characters in animation, including Mr. Krabs on Spongebob Squarepants, Destro on [[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. * Starscream (Decepticon Jet, 1984/1985/1986)
**Japanese ID number: 22
**Accessories: Left & right fists, 2 missile launchers, 2 null-rays, 2 cluster bombs, left & right wings, left & right tail fins, left & right tail wings, landing gear

: Starscream's first toy began life as "Jet Robo" from the Diaclone line, transforming into a grey, red and blue F-15 Eagle fighter jet. To transform Starscream, one must essentially take most of his plane parts off and transform his body, then reattach most of plane parts on again, along with the addition of two blue fists. If you don't mind being fiddly, though, transformation can certainly be achieved by only removing the fists, weapons and landing gear (which can store in Starscream's cockpit). Owing to the modular nature of his design and the fact that it is impossible to store all the parts in either mode, it can be quite difficult to find an intact original set of this toy.

:Starscream is armed with a pair of missile launchers that mount on his arms in robot mode, and under his wings in jet mode, with a pair of specialized projectiles for each. In jet mode, two short "cluster bomb" projectiles are fitted into the launchers to make them resemble the drop tanks a real F-15 carries, while in robot mode, they are replaced with the long barrels of Starscream's null-rays. The original Diaclone version of the mold featured spring-loaded firing mechanisms in these launchers; while this feature was removed for the Hasbro release of the toy, it was left intact for the Takara version, and all subsequent reissues.

:The Diaclone version of the Starscream mold featured tailfins with solid tips and solid fists, and both these features carried over to the earliest Transformers edition of the future. Soon, however, the Transformers mold was modified to add hollow tips to the fins, and tabs to the insides of the fists to allow them to hold onto his arms tighter, resulting in a visible slit on either side of each one. These altered versions became the standard for all subsequent reissues of the mold. Like all his 1984 brethren, a rubsign was added to Starscream in 1985.

: Starscream's mold was redecoed into the concurrently-available Thundercracker and Skywarp. It would later be redecoed again to make Sunstorm, and retooled into Dirge, Ramjet, and Thrust. On top of this, given his role as a major Generation 1 character, Starscream himself would be reissued many times down the years; this article strives to list each reissue of the figure under its own header. The long lifespan of his toy actually began in 1986, when Starscream remained part of the assortment for that year despite the departure of nearly every other 1984 toy from store shelves.
He is armed with a pair of blue lasers, which become his tail fins in jet mode.
To make the toy further match Starscream's cartoon appearance, it features a notably lighter shade of blue, and a translucent orange cockpit as opposed to the traditional smoky grey.
: The second e-Hobby-exclusive redeco available concurrently with the 2001 reissue of the original Generation 1 Starscream toy, "Starscream Black Version" sports a color scheme loosely based upon Machine Wars Starscream, despite the only real point of similarity being that they're both black. The toy's bio makes a rare fictional reference to Machine Wars, describing the events of the series in the past tense. The toy shared the window-box packaging of the "Ghost Version" (see above), except it's box was monochrome-black.

: The third exclusive redeco of the original Generation 1 Starscream toy released alongside the 2001 reissues, "Starscream Secret Version" was available through the Lucky Draw contest held in conjunction with the first edition of Transformers Generations (with a Super Collection Figure Skywarp figurine as second prize). The figure was limited to only five pieces, making it one of the rarest officially-released Transformers toys in the world, and to cap it off, the toy was not actually shown during the contest, hence its "Secret" moniker. Given its amazingly limited availability, it was not even 100% known what the toy looked like until a picture of it appeared in Transformers Generations 2009, showing it as being primarily clear and colorless. Prior to this appearance, it was suggested that both this toy and the SCF Skywarp were not officially released, due to the bankruptcy of Generations publisher Keibunsha. Whether or not this scenario is accurate is still unknown at this time, as no one has publicly translated the text regarding the figure from Generations 2009.

:Starscream's Generation 2 release is a slight retool of his original toy, armed with new, functional spring-loaded launchers and missiles, and an electronic light-and-sound "energy unit" in the shape of a tank. The electronic box lights up with the press of either button, and emits electronic "machine gun" or "jet engine" noises. In robot mode, the box attaches to Starscream's back; in jet mode, it plugs into his tail-end.
: A planned-but-canceled redeco of Generation 2 Dreadwing, "Advanced Tactical Bomber" Megatron would have come with Starscream, a redeco of Dreadwing's partner Smokescreen. The pair could combine into the "flying wing" Advanced Tactical Bomber, while Starscream coud detach to become a smaller solo jet, leaving Megatron to transform into a treaded tank mode. According the Toy Fair 1995 Transformers presentation, the toy's missiles were intended to glow in the dark.

: This toy's deco (but not the glow-in-the-dark missiles) was used to make Beast Wars IIs BB and Starscream out of the same mold-set. This mold was also used to make Robots in Disguise Dreadwind and Smokejumper, while Starscream's mold was sold separately during the Robot Masters line as Smokesniper.
**Accessories: 10 missiles
: Starscream's Machine Wars incarnation is a redeco of the Predator Skyquake, transforming into a large bomber jet based vaguely upon an SR-71 Blackbird. The main feature of the toy is its "carpet bombing" gimmick; each wing contains a drum that holds up to four missiles, which drop out as the drum is rotated. A further two missiles can also store on each wing, and one on each side of his fuselage, but while Skyquake came with enough missiles to fill all these ports, Starscream only comes with ten. The short length of the missiles necessary for this gimmick to function means that Starscream does not come with Skyquake's firing missile launcher, since the missiles are shorter than safety reasons allow, although it is incorrectly shown on his packaging. Starscream also lacks Skyquake's Megavisor gimmick.

:Starscream is known to have come with both grey missiles, better fitting his new color scheme, and later, bright green missiles like Skyquake's.

: This mold was later redecoed to make King Atlas.
: Starscream would have been made available in the aborted Transtech series in 2001. Control art and early Prototype images have surfaced, showing that the toy would have been at the Deluxe scale and featured internal lighting mechanisms that changed color depending on its mode. The toy is clearly a homage to his Machine Wars body, which at the time of Transtech's intended release would have been the last form Starscream had inhabited in American markets.

: In 2008, this design would be repurposed as the TransTech universe's Starscream.

: This design was revived by Draxhall Jump when they were contracted to create the Marvel Megamorphs line for Toy Biz; Starscream ultimately became the Iron Man toy.
:The first reissue of the original Starscream toy in North America since the Generation 1 toyline reached its end, this "Commemorative Series" edition of the figure was a Toys"R"Us exclusive. It featured functional missile launchers for the first time on a Hasbro version of the toy, but because the launchers now worked, both sets of missiles had to be lengthened for safety reasons. This didn't work out so badly with the null-rays, but the cluster bombs just wound up looking stupid.

:As another in an increasingly large number of reissues of the original Generation 1 Starscream toy, this entry in the Japanese-exclusive Transformers Collection line of reissues decided to mix things up by giving the figure a full-scale redeco into show-accurate colors. His blue plastic became much lighter, while his cockpit was made bright orange, and even featured new grey paint applications running across it. Several of his stickers were replaced with new, show-accurate paint applications, including new wing-stripes and tampographed Decepticon symbols on his wings and nosecone (of course, Starscream didn't have one on his nosecone in the cartoon, so it isn't perfect!).

:Starscream's fists were remolded with new circular peg-holes so he could wield his missile launchers in his hands, which also worked in conjunction with a new tab on the fists' undersides to allow him to hold his new accessory: Megatron in gun mode. This miniature Megatron splits into two pieces at the handle, with each half plugging into the new hole and tab added to each of Starscream's fists. Megatron can also plug into Starscream's underside in jet mode, replicating the time the characters linked up in this fashion in the cartoon episode, "S.O.S. Dinobots". The set also came with a remolded fist for the original Optimus Prime toy, allowing him to hold the Megatron accessory, and a DVD featuring a trailer for the upcoming Playstation 2 video game The Transformers and Japanese toy commercials for Optimus Prime, Rodimus Prime and Chromedome.
: Starscream's Robot Masters toy is a re-imagining of the original Generation 1 figure, retaining its basic transformation scheme, but designed to be closer to the animation model, with greater articulation and integrated parts that do not require detachment during transformation. The only pieces that now need to be removed are Starscream's null ray rifles, which move from his wings to his arms. He has three peg-holes on each arm, allowing the null rays to be mounted on his shoulders, on his forearms, or in his fists. These holes are also designed to accomodate the generic spring-loaded missile launcher weapon included with Robot Masters G1 Convoy, Beast Convoy and Beast Megatron.
**Accessories: 2 null rays, 2 missile racks, Doctor Arkeville pilot figurine, gun clip, two-piece display stand

:The second new mold in Takara's Masterpiece line, this highly-detailed version of Starscream is the "odd man out" of the series, eschewing the slavish cartoon-accuracy of the other Masterpiece figures in favor of creating as accurate an F-15 Eagle alternate mode as possible, with a somewhat more stylized robot mode. The toy features several unintrusive built-in gimmicks, including numerous opening panels on his jet-mode surface (highlighting the attention this mode received), flip-up panels in his chest that reveal missile racks based on the weapons seen in the Generation 1 episode "Fire on the Mountain", and a rotating face that allows Starscream to switch his expression from stony-faced to sneering. Owners of the toy are given quite a few customization options, as Starscream comes with an extensive sheet of sticker decals, including variously sized Decepticon symbols, and squadron numbers and markings, including one of Waspinator!

:In addition to his built-in features, Starscream comes with several accessories. He is armed with both his traditional null-ray rifles, but his familiar cluster bombs are replaced with a rack of (slightly inaccurate) Sidewinder missiles. He also comes with a clip that mounts under his nosecone, allowing him to hold the Megatron pistol accessory that came with 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime in emulation of the way the characters linked up in "S.O.S. Dinobots", and a small figurine of Doctor Arkeville, his partner in crime from several first-season episodes of the Generation 1 cartoon, which can fit in his cockpit. Finally, he includes a two-piece, reconfigurable display base that allows the figure to be posed in mid-flight in either jet or robot mode, and which can store Starscream's accessories while they are not in use. Control art for Masterpiece Starscream shows the figure wearing his Crown of Leadership (as seen in the coronation scene of the original animated movie), which, combined with some otherwise-pointless flip-out notches in the finished toy's shoulders, strongly indicate Takara intended to either include with the figure, or release in the future, a set of clip-on coronation gear that has failed to emerge in the years since the toy's release.

: Masterpiece Starscream's creation was overseen by famed Japanese mecha designer Shōji Kawamori, who was particularly intent on hiding the robot-mode details on the underside of the fighter mode. The first prototype for the figure was essentially an upgraded, more complex version of the original toy, with much more accurate robot and jet modes, but Kawamori's desire to avoid simply making a new version of an old toy saw the figure go through a major redesign into its finished form. Perhaps the most notable change was the repositioning of major structures from Starscream's legs to his hips, with the intent of creating the feel of a samurai wearing a pair of swords at his waist (presumably, if somewhat oddly, based on the then-recent Armada and Energon cartoons' portrayal of their Starscream as a noble swordsman). Even so, Kawamori was still unhappy with the amount of robotic parts visible underneath the plane, but conceded that too many changes would essentially not make the toy look like Starscream in robot mode. In this pursuit of realism, the most visible concession to the Starscream's design was the abandonment of his traditional color scheme, replaced with an all-over greenish-tinged grey. Given that this color is inaccurate to most real F-15 fighters (whose Gunship Gray coloration is much closer to Starscream's traditional shade), the question of why it was changed at all is not an unreasonable one. However, there are instances of F-15 Strike Eagles that actually utilize this (seldom seen) color scheme.

:This mold was later redecoed into Masterpiece versions of Skywarp and Thundercracker, and was recolored by Hasbro into a more cartoon-accurate Starscream color scheme released under their Classics line.

:Though not stated on the package, Starscream is in fact a 1/60 scale F-15. The same scale used by many popular Japanese mecha toys including Kawamori's own Macross Valkyries. Coincidence?
* Starscream (Deluxe, 2006)
**Accessories: 2 null-ray cannons (left and right), 2 missiles

: Like the other entries in the Classics series, Starscream is a faithful "modernizing" of his original Generation 1 form, updating his original toy with modern standards of toy engineering, transformation, sculpting detail and articulation (not dissimilar in principle from his Robot Masters incarnation, but with less of an adherence to his cartoon character model). Sharing many design elements with his Masterpiece toy, Starscream still transforms into an F-15 Eagle, but has the nose of an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. His color scheme is, of course, based on the traditional Starscream palette, but seems to owe its new layout to the original F-15 prototype.

:As usual, Starscream is armed with his familiar null-rays, which can mount under his wings, on his shoulders, or in his fists, and fire spring-loaded projectiles. The large size of his null-rays (necessary for safety reasons) restrict his arm movement somewhat in robot mode, as they bump into his wings. Like all Classics figures, he has a heat-activated rubsign on his left wing. Certain parts of Starscream, like his back panel and tailfin assemblies, are made of unusually rigid gray plastic that is slightly prone to cracking or breaking, and should be handled with care.

: Later versions of Starscream saw a retool in the jet intake area, which involved the slope of his shoulders being decreased, and a fifth small rectangle being added to the vertical area. This version of Starscream is the harder to find of the two, but was redecoed to create Starscream's Henkei! Henkei! counterpart, Classics Skywarp (on whom the retool was first observed), Timelines Thundercracker and Universe Acid Storm. The toy was also retooled to create Classics and Henkei! Ramjet, and Timelines and [[Henkei!_Henkei!_(toyline)#Gentei! His colors were not the only thing changed, however; the tips of his vertical stabilizers were shortened and rounded, and the plastics used overall have greater resilience to impact and damage than the fragile Japanese release.

:Starscream includes the same accessories as the Takara version of the toy, including a two-piece display stand, null rays, sidewinder missiles, a small figurine of Doctor Arkeville (which now has the correct skin color), and a clip to hold 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime's Megatron gun while in jet mode. Starscream was finally given the correct tech spec stats he was originally supposed to have back in 1984 for this release, which had been mistakenly given to Skywarp instead.

:Takara got in on the act the following year when they released Hasbro's version of Masterpiece Starscream as a "USA Edition", adding a Japanese sticker to the Hasbro Classics packaging. This version of the toy was not without a few changes: the original mold for the tail fins was used, an extra Decepticon symbol was added to Starscream's nosecone (which was present on his original toy, but not his animation model), and his black "scorch mark" paint operations were dialed back, and those that remained were switched to a lighter gray.
:Legends Class Starscream is a new sculpt based on his Generation 1 jet appearance with many fuselage details borrowed from the Masterpiece version. This is the first Starscream in many years to attempt an entirely new transformation for him, with the arms now forming the rear of the jet and the legs folding under the wings. Amusingly, he has two cockpits, with the one that is actually part of his jet mode folding right behind the fake one on his chest in robot mode.
: As part of the "Reveal the Shield" subline imprint, Starscream sports a rubsign on the top side of his left wing (when looked at from the front), although at least some samples of the the gray helmet version have it on the right wing instead.
The puzzle was of a battle scene of the Seekers battling Optimus Prime, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, but once broken down, the puzzle pieces could be assembled into a three-dimensional model of Starscream in either robot or jet mode—a progenitor of the 3D Battle-Card Game in many respects!
:One of Kabaya's first Transformers candy toy lines, the Transformers Milk Caramel series featured small rubber figures, similar to the later-released Decoys, but smaller, flatter and based more on the toys, rather than their animation models.
:One of the first of many snap-together candy toy model kits released by Kabaya during the Generation 1 era, this small version of Starscream was available as in various solid colors as part of the Transformers Choco range, coming packaged with small "Chocolate Dots". Owing to its diminutive size, it could only transform between robot and jet modes by being disassembled and put back together in different configurations. The figure was apparently also available through capsule machines.
:Starscream was also available as part of the larger Transformers Gum range of figures. Released in the first wave of the series and standing at about four inches tall, he was moulded from red, black and grey plastic and featured stickers for detail. Unlike his smaller Choco counterpart, as was standard for the Gum figures, he is fully transformable, essentially being a scaled down version of the actual Starscream toy.

:This Starscream figure was later re-released in 1997 by a Korean company named Toon Town, in a two-pack with the "Transformers Gum" version of Sideswipe.
: This small purple rubber figurine of Starscream was released in Japan as part of a large multi-pack of similar figures, which were used as playing pieces for Transformers board games. The figure features a number etched into its back which is the sum total of Starscream's Tech Spec ratings, which served some function in the gameplay the figures were used for. A peach-colored version of the figure could be found packed in various other multi-packs the following year.
: The Starscream figurine was later brought over to Hasbro markets as part of the Decoy promotion, largely identical to the Japanese release except for the fact that the number on his back was replaced with a simple "checklist" number (35, in Starscream's case). Like all Decepticon Decoys, he was a randomly-chosen pack-in available with the carded Throttlebots, Stunticons, Combaticons and Terrorcons, and was, very early on in the promotion, available in an alternate red coloration that was only packed in with the Throttlebots.
: An exclusive release for San Diego Comic-Con 2011, this is a redeco of the 2011 new-mold [[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. After more than a quarter of a century, it represents just the second official mingling of the G.I. ==Notes==

*A hand-painted mock-up and accompanying artwork for what seems to have been a proposed Generation 2-era redeco of Starscream appeared in auctions on eBay, amongst similar items put up for sale from the collection of a former Hasbro employee. The mock-up features the words "Black Death" on its nosecone, which would probably lead fans to refer to the figure as "Black Death Starscream" if anyone were aware of it existing. The actuality of the figure being intended as Starscream is uncertain. In fact, the G2 redeco of Ramjet seen at the same time has been revealed as having been intended as a separate new character and not an alternate version of Ramjet as had been assumed. It very well may be that this toy was likewise intended as a new character with the working name "Black Death," and not Starscream at all, but without confirmation of this it may as well remain listed here.

*A second unproduced redeco of Starscream for the Generation 2 line was found in 2009, also in an auction on Ebay. It is known to the fandom as "Jungle Attack Starscream", although just as with "Black Death Starscream", it is unclear if it was intended to actually be another Starscream toy.
