Rook dares to see the big picture! He sees the disturbing patterns forming, of the twisted depravity of Decepticons looking to endanger the way of life of simple, hard-working Autobots like you. He knows that the stern policies of Optimus Prime encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of Autobots everywhere, and he fights against the crippling socialism that the Decepticons would impose in their so-called "utopia." He shares your heartfelt beliefs that the reins of power are properly wielded in the servos of a violent madman, rather than the soft appendages of Decepticon "intellectuals." He understands your frustration with those fembots who get uppity and forget their place.

Others may claim Rook is merely a partisan hack, but this is only because he speaks for the people! He's the only one brave enough to speak up about what those disturbingly virtuous Decepticons are up to! He loves his planet. But sometimes he fears for it.
Fortunately, Punch was able to get the scoop from an eyewitness and expose the sordid affair. Around Cybertron#Around Cybertron #4

Rook reported on the latest in entertainment news: the "infamous" comedic duo Dreadwind and Darkwind had been captured by Autobot forces and sentenced to death on account of their "painfully uplifting" comedy tours. Rook was there to report on every moment of their last words and subsequent execution in the smelting pool. Now that was a comedy act every upstanding Autobot could appreciate. Around Cybertron#Around Cybertron #5

Rook ended up delivering quite probably the most amazing news of his career—Megatron was dead! As he awaited the footage of Optimus Prime's reaction, he didn't envy the bot who would tell Prime the news that his vendetta would be denied. Until he found out that the bot in question was himself, as Prime had been watching the Around Cybertron broadcast. Oops. Around Cybertron#Around Cybertron #6

The ABN boss made the supreme mistake of appointing Andromeda as the anchor while Rook was on "enforced vacation". But, being an unreliable fembot, she ran off to cover a coup attempt against Optimus Prime, leaving Rook free to reclaim the desk that was rightfully his. It enjoyed his loving pats and sweet nothings until he was startled by Mirage's presence in the interview chair. Around Cybertron#Around Cybertron #7

When Punch went undercover to report about the latest episode of "Decepticon troublemaking", Esmeral and Monstructor made him an offer to join their network, which he accepted, much to Rook's misery. Around Cybertron#Around Cybertron #8

Okay, some thoughts here. This is a really good promotional tool, but the average visitor to the wiki can't get to it very easily. It's linked to from our community portal, which we don't really use, and which isn't what "Community portal" links to in the sidebar. That's the talkpage, not the portal itself. It's also linked to by one of the GoBoxes themselves, but we've got so many of them now that it's a real crapshoot for that one to come up. So to get more users aware of this promotional tool on a wider variety of forums, I think it ought to be a bit more prominently linked, possibly on the main page.--RosicrucianTalk 03:15, 10 June 2009 (EDT)

Back in Black
Not sure how best to add this to the Toy section of the site (under G1 Ironhide? in its own sub-section?), so I'm putting all the basic info here for now:

e-Hobby is coming out with (gasp) another black recolor exclusive, but at least this one has some historical legitimacy/excuse.

New Year Special e-Hobby Exclusive: TF Encore Black Protective Ironhide
will be priced at 4725 yen. Pre-orders being taken until Jan. 11, with a projected shipping date of next April.

The black coloration's meant to homage Ironhide's original Diaclone version, but taken in conjunction with the Emergency Green Ratchet (and a hint in his tech specs), it's a double homage to the new movie Ironhide. (Well, a triple homage if you want to count the A-Team van.) The packaging will be the same as the regular TF Encore Ironhide's.

According to his tech specs, he got the black protective coating to disguise himself from both Destrons and members of the human criminal underworld when he's acting as Convoy's bodyguard. Not a few of his fellow Cybertrons have whispered to him that he looks like a "men in black" vehicle, but Ironhide insists he got the idea from the deep black coloration of pickup trucks he saw around town. The coating, a composite gel metal, has made his trithyllium steel skin even more durable, allowing him to self-repair minor injuries right away. His robot/mobile artillery form (that's how they refer to the MARB) is now 25% more maneuverable than before, and he can handle even the worst of roads using his three-legged Marauder Mode. (I'm guessing that's the name for the robot portion perched on top of the MARB.)

Images and such are here.--Apcog 08:17, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

:So far all G1 reissues and special G1 toy repaints released under the G1 brand have been place under the same Generation 1 toy sub section as the original release.
:I think it's highly likely that in TakaraTomy marketing terms, the black repaint while a Diaclone colour scheme (which is convenient), actually has less to do with Diaclone than it does with them repainting an Ironhide in colours marginally similar to Movie Ironhide, hence that green Ratchet. By having a black Ironhide who's also a Diaclone colour scheme, they get the widest possible niche customer base for the product. --FFN 08:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
::Oh, no doubt the double homage was a purposeful marketing move. The e-Hobby page simply makes direct mention of the Diaclone version but leaves the movie aspect to be hinted at purely in the tech spec text. Anyway, I'm about to turn in for the night, so I'll see about integrating this tomorrow, unless someone else gets to it first.--Apcog 09:42, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

:::I think your Black Ironhide entry will need to be rewritten eventually, since that info from his bio tech spec shouldn't be in the toy section. --FFN 21:11, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
::::I don't really mind it being there. I've forgotten what the latest version of policy regarding putting fiction details from a specific toy release in with the toy's information is, but this at least seems more clean and less awkward than having an eHobby subheader under the Fiction section saying that sometimes he puts on a black finish. --ItsWalky 21:18, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
:::::This possible flub was all part and parcel of my uncertainty regarding adding this info to the article in the first place, and why I put all the info I had on the Talk page first. If it turns out I've misplaced the tech spec info by wikia standards, by all means, please put it where it's supposed to be. I don't get to come here enough to abate all my ignorance in a timely fashion, so it'll be faster. OTOH, based on Walky's comments, I suspect it won't have to be moved until/unless this version of the character gains a more substantial presence in official TF fiction.--Apcog 21:58, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Head Count
According to the latest entry at Autobase Aichi, the January '08 issue of Hyper Hobby contains photos of the TF Encore Ironhide with a head made out of paper attached. Walky cut the line "Interestingly, this is the only G1 Ironhide toy to date that doesn't share a mold with Ratchet," with the explanation "Power Master Ironhide doesn't share one with Ratchet either." Power Master Ironhide was a G2 toy (representing a G1 character). So, either, A) the line should be reinstated, since it refers to only G1 toys, or B) the original line was twice wrong, since Magamaboss Ironhide also represents the G1 character, and its mold has never been used for Ratchet. Thoughts? JW 13:55, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
From his helicopter, Silas shot down William Fowler's plane transporting the Dynamic Nuclear Generation System. Soon, Fowler was transporting the device aboard a civilian trailer truck. Fowler evaded Silas's men, and when they attempted to open the trailer door, a motorcycle driver drove onto one of their cars, causing it to flip over and explode. The convoy passed through a train tunnel, and as it emerged, mysterious purple planes fired on the trailer. Since there was no radiation emanating from the explosion, Silas realized Fowler must've transferred the device onto the train. Then Silas witnessed the civilian convoy and planes transform into robots, and a fight ensued. Silas was pleased to confirm the rumors of living technology on Earth, but flew off to retrieve the DNGS.

A hacker caused the train to diverge onto a forked track, but Silas's pilot cut the connection. Silas prepared to land on the train as his men finished cutting open the appropriate car's roof, but retreated when he saw the truck robot on the move. He wasn't going to let the enemy leave with his prize, and so fired on the train tracks to cause a crash. The truck robot managed to stop the train, and from the safety of his helicopter, Silas watched his new enemy stare back. He privately congratulated the alien visitor, but noted MECH had the home advantage and vowed to level the playing field, even if it meant dissecting the robot. Silas then flew off. Convoy (episode)
Silas had his men capture Breakdown during a battle on the Kamchatka Peninsula, taking the captive 'Con to a makeshift base in a deserted railway tunnel so they could dismantle him in peace. He had one of Breakdown's eyes removed and converted into a two-way transmitter, leaving it somewhere obvious, so he could talk to Breakdown's rescuers, and was surprised when Optimus Prime came looking for the Decepticon. Though a bomb waylaid Prime's team, Bulkhead broke into the tunnel and Silas retired to his helicopter outside, where he directed the MECH forces in an attempt to stop Bulkhead and Breakdown from escaping. He was forced to order a retreat when Starscream arrived with Vehicons, however they had gained enough information from their examination of Breakdown that Silas could initiate Project Chimera. Operation: Breakdown

When MECH detected a Decepticon distress signal, Silas took a team to try to secure the Decepticon for MECH's use. Unfortunately it was bait, and Airachnid was the trap. Airachnid bargained with Silas — find Jack Darby and she would allow them to keep Arcee after she was done with her. Silas used MECH technology and the web to find information on Jack and had his mother June Darby kidnapped. Arcee and Jack were lured to a temporary MECH base in a factory. While Airachnid played with Jack, Silas, not believing the Decepticon would keep her part of the deal, ordered his men to extract Arcee's heart. Though the Autobot escaped before they could extract the part and Jack stole Silas's radio to contact Fowler, Silas at least got to witness Airachnid scanning a new alternate mode. Crisscross

A MECH team led by Silas successfully lured in Bumblebee, who was stunned by their equipment. While Silas kept an eye out for Bumblebee's partner, the MECH Surgeon procured a T-cog from the subject, and Silas called a retreat. They installed it into the robot they'd built as part of Project Chimera, but to Silas's disappointment, it failed to work. Starscream, who had followed them to their base, pointed out that they required Energon to power anything Cybertronian. Starscream proposed an alliance to allow them to find Energon for them to share, which Silas accepted on the condition that there be enough for the army they intended to build. Operation Bumblebee, Part 1

After securing a supply of energon, they made another attempt to activate the robot, only for Bumblebee to attack the MECH base. Silas was knocked over during Bumblebee's assault, and instructed Starscream to collect the T-cog and meet them outside. When Starscream arrived without the cog, Silas had the MECH troopers ambush him and take his. Operation Bumblebee, Part 2

With the completion of Nemesis Prime, Silas attempted to use their experiment to bump off Agent Fowler. When this failed, he instead used it to attack Alden Military Base to turn the military against the Autobots. This inevitably drew the Autobots to their base, and Silas used Nemesis Prime to deal with them, but while he was using Nemesis to fight Optimus, Fowler infiltrated the base and attacked him. While Silas was distracted, Optimus defeated Nemesis Prime, the mech falling through the roof on top of Silas. Gravely injured, Silas was spirited away by MECH and hooked up to life support. While the Surgeon stated that nothing conventional could be done for his body, Breakdown's body provided an (unconstitutional) alternative. Nemesis Prime (episode)
Soon after the bungled operation in which MECH teamed with Airachnid, Silas set out to get his revenge on Jack, directing his men to blow up schools. This eventually succeeded in drawing out the boy and Silas encountered Jack while blowing up Franklin High School. Trapping him in flames, Silas headed for the roof to evacuate by helicopter, only for Jack to follow him via the fire escape and deliver a kick to his nether regions. According to Agent Fowler MECH agents, including the Surgeon may be special tactics like Silas, but still enlisted. Grill

After MECH captured Breakdown the surgeon was tasked with dismantling him and using what they found to make a new generation of weapons. He managed to cut out Breakdown's eye, which they converted into a two-way feed, allowing Silas to talk to the Autobots who were trying to rescue the Decepticon. When Bulkhead came to Breakdown's rescue, Silas and the "medical" team evacuated before he reached the prisoner. They had however gained enough info on his internal workings to launch Project Chimera. Operation: Breakdown

A deal struck with Airachnid allowed MECH to capture Arcee and hold her in their temporary facility in Jasper, Nevada. Silas ordered the surgeon to cut open Arcee and take her "heart", suspecting that Airachnid might double cross them if they did things her way. Arcee woke up and beat up the surgeon and his assistant after they cut her out of Airachnid's webbing. The appearance of Agent Fowler and his men forced MECH to retreat but not before observing Airachnid scanning Fowler's helicopter. Crisscross

As Project Chimera neared completion, MECH attacked Bumblebee to get their hands on a T-cog. Once the scout was paralyzed, the surgeon extracted it, in quicker time then he thought. Thankfully this quick time allowed them to take off with the cog in time to avoid Bulkhead. Though he installed it into the robot they'd built, the cog failed to give it the ability to transform, no matter what the surgeon did. He was there to witness Starscream's partner proposal to MECH. Operation Bumblebee, Part 1

Later, with the help of Starscream, MECH found some Energon to fuel their robot and reactivated the test with their new power source. Though the test was going well, Bumblebee, seeking to take back his T-cog, attacked the base and destroyed the robot, forcing Silas, the surgeon and MECH to retreat... but not without taking Starscream's T-cog first. Operation Bumblebee, Part 2

As Silas tested Nemesis Prime, the surgeon checked that the interface was all working as expected. He was later knocked out by Fowler when the agent invaded the MECH base, but regained consciousness soon after and surrounded Fowler after Silas kicked him to the floor. However Nemesis Prime came through the roof, forcing the Surgeon and his men to run. After their experiment fell on Silas, the surgeon attended to the MECH leader. The prognosis was not good(he was to badly hurt for conventional medicine), but the surgeon had a solution ready involving Breakdown's recently acquired corpse(because MECH is anything but conventional). Nemesis Prime (episode)
