After [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and his troops aboard the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] went missing, the Technobots were among several under the leadership of [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. Their faction was mired in a seemingly endless war with a band of [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] led by [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], in a struggle so pointless and self-perpetuating that Fortress Maximus decided to leave [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and its war and settle on the peaceful planet [[Nebulos]]. The Technobots followed Fortress Maximus' lead, building the ''[[Steelhaven]]'' and departing their war-torn home.

It would not be so easy. The [[Nebulan|Nebulans]] were xenophobic towards the strange robots which invaded their world, and after several missteps in communication, Fortress Maximus and a handful of others surrendered their heads as hopeful proof of their benevolence and compliance. {{storylink|Ring of Hate!}} But when the Decepticons followed them to Nebulos, the Technobots found themselves once again pitted against the terrible [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]]. {{storylink|Love and Steel!}}

[[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] was made super-intelligent by accidentally absorbing energies from the generator in the power core of Cybertron. He then built the Technobots' bodies from parts of [[Unicron]]'s brain, and then transferred his super-intelligence into them. Together, the Technobots used their intelligence to defeat the individual [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] and their combined form, [[Abominus]]. {{storylink|Grimlock's New Brain}}

Soon afterwards, they were assigned to the [[Earth Defense Command|EDC]] to assist Commander [[Marissa Faireborn]] in pursuing smugglers and other criminal elements threatening Sol. Confronting the [[Quintesson|Quintessons]] and the Terrorcons, the Technobots' combined form of Computron once again defeated the dim-witted Abominus by causing the Decepticon giant to fall apart into his individual team member components. {{storylink|Money Is Everything}}

When the Decepticons attacked the research facilities of [[Mark Morgan]] and [[Gregory Swofford]] in search of the scientists' new metal alloy, the Technobots combined into Computron to fight off Abominus. Unfortunately, their scuffle caused part of the building to collapse, severely injuring Morgan's daughter, [[Jessica Morgan|Jessica]]. The Technobots used to crew the Autobot vessel ''[[Calabi-Yau]]'' in orbit around [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], under the command of [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]].

After landing on the planet to investigate an energy spike, Scattershot, Lightspeed and Strafe accompanied Jetfire on a reconaissance mission and were captured by [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]]'s group of [[Decepticon|Decepticons]]. Nosecone and Afterburner, having taken the ''Calabi-Yau'' back into orbit, crash-landed back on Cybertron after escaping the doomed ship in an emergency pod and were drafted into assisting the [[Wrecker|Wreckers]]. {{storylink|Stormbringer}}

Later on, the Technobots and Jetfire were sent to help separate the entity [[Monstructor]] into its component parts. They weren't making much progress, though were determined to keep trying—but the Decepticon raid on [[Garrus-9]] saw them taken down, and Monstructor captured. {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}}

The Technobots continued their research work in conjunction with Jetfire, polishing up Bludgeon's work with Pretender technology. :The Technobots are a Scramble City-style [[combiner]] team, consisting of four smaller toys sold carded at the $5 price point, and one larger toy sold boxed at the $12 price point. The smaller toys can each become any limb for the combined robot form, attaching to connection points on the leader toy, which forms the torso.

:The smaller Technobots are typical combiner limbs, with simple transformations, articulation limited to knees and shoulder rotation, and a single block instead of separate feet. In envy of the Autobots' vehicular modes, Megatron stole various human vehicles and customized them so he could have his own car team, the Stunticons. Before they were given [[Spark|life]], he brought them out for a test drive via remote control, forcing them to flip, somersault, fly off the road, drive up cliffs and bash through forests without a scratch. The Stunticons having satisfied Megatron's idea of normalcy, he headed to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to get Cybernetic personalities for them. On activation, they swore loyalty to Megatron... or at least agreed to do what he told them to.

Their first mission was to steal the [[Superfuel|superfuel]] from the humans. As they smashed up the superfuel facility, the human guards immediately assumed that they were Autobots, since the Decepticons could not possibly [[Constructicon (G1)|transform]] [[Astrotrain (G1)|into]] [[Blitzwing (G1)|land vehicles]]. {{storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1}} Whilst the Autobots were marooned on Cybertron, the Decepticons returned to [[Earth]] with the newly awakened Stunticons who began wreaking havoc and damaging the Autobots' good name by attacking the US military base containing the experimental rocket fuel. Eventually, the Autobots returned with the newly built [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] whose combined form [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] defeated the Stunticon combiner Menasor... with a little help from [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. {{storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2}}

Despite this defeat, the Stunticons were the key component in Megatron's elaborate scheme to hold a [[Europa 2000|fake charity race]] from Paris to Istanbul so he could steal US driver [[Auggie Cahnay (G1)|Auggie Cahnay]]'s car which would be melted down to house the powerful [[Pearl of Bahoudin]]. One by one, the Stunticons disabled the Autobot participants assigned to protect Cahnay, but the downfall of Megatron's plan came when he ordered the Stunticons to stop going after the remaining Autobots. When Megatron was infected with [[Cosmic Rust (disease)|Cosmic Rust]] after a trip to the lost Autobot colony of [[Antilla]], the Stunticons were assigned to capture the Autobot scientist [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], who had developed the powerful anti-corrosion [[Corrostop]]. After Megatron cured himself and infected the Autobots with the disease, Menasor attacked the Statue of Liberty in [[New York City]] with the ancient [[Lightning Bug]] heat ray, intent on stopping the Autobots from matter-duplicating more Corrostop from the layer they sprayed on the statue. After [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] was banished for yet another failed coup, he returned with a powerful new Decepticon team called the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], who were able to outfight Autobot and Decepticon alike. Needing a trump card, Megatron attempted to call on the Stunticons to help, but they refused as the rebellious Decepticons were busy having a demolition derby with various human-owned cars. However, the Stunticons belatedly arrived after the Combaticons' combined form of [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] defeated [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] and forced Megatron to acknowledge Starscream as the new Decepticon leader. At some point in Cybertron's recent history, the Stunticons were deemed psychotic and too dangerous to function in society, and as a result were placed into perpetual stasis lock inside of a prison facility. Later, in an attempt to create a diversion while he set his final plans in motion, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] arranged for the release of the Stunticons. They formed into Menasor and ran amuck for awhile, until [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] arrived and began insulting them. Unable to reconcile with this, the five Stunticons began to bicker with each other over whose fault it was that they were failing, temporarily stopping Menasor and allowing Ultra Magnus to ram the combiner in the chest, forcing him to separate into his component parts and disabling the Stunticons. {{storylink|Passive Aggression}}

: As a [[Scramble City]] [[Combiner|combiner]] team, the Stunticons consist of four small "limbs", sold carded at the $5 price point, and a single larger leader toy that forms the combined robot's torso, sold boxed for roughly $12. They were available in 1986 and 1987.

: The smaller Stunticons, like their Aerialbot counterparts, share a general transformation scheme involving pulling out the back of the vehicle to form legs, and flipping the hood out of the way to reveal the robot head. Dead End and Breakdown share an additional step, requiring rotating their legs at the knees and pushing the legs back in so they aren't incredibly tall and skinny. All four feature shoulder articulation and not much else. Each comes with a small pistol for the robot mode, and a ''huge'' double-barreled cannon which plugs into the back of the vehicle mode.

When we first met the future serial killers, Martin and Roland thought it would be a good idea to turn a laser up to maximum power during [[Mr. Robbins]]'s demonstration of it in class at [[Benjamin Franklin Pierce High School]]. Instead of expelling them and doing us all a favor, Mr. Robbins assigned the two sociopaths to win the science fair with [[Elise Presser]].

The three ended up building [[B.O.T. (robot)|B.O.T.]], but they made the mistake of letting Elise put something that they found in the junkyard in it. This turned out to be the [[personality component]] of the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticon]] [[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]], who proceeded to go on a rampage. The three teens called in the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], but instead got the [[Autobot]]s [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], [[Gears]], and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]]. Brawl-B.O.T. proceeded to give the three Autobots a hard time. While waiting outside, Martin and Roland decided it would be a good idea to go into the dilapidated building the Autobots had chased B.O.T. into, inadvertently allowing B.O.T. to escape the trapped elevator he had been stuck in, which allowed [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] to steal Brawl's personality component back.

The three then used recovered bits of B.O.T. and completely bogus science to learn of the [[Decepticon]]s' plan to use their new orbital-disruptor cannon on Autobot headquarters, then ran to the [[Ark (G1)|Autobot base]] to warn them. During the battle, the three kids used [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]] and B.O.T. to destroy the Decepticons' [[orbit disruptor cannon]], destroying their homemade bot in the process. Elise decided that they could build a new one with whatever junk was lying around the Autobot base... at which point Martin and Roland gagged her and dragged her away. More importantly, however, their subsequent success or failure at the science fair, which was to determine the ultimate outcome of their high-school careers, remains unclear.{{storylink|B.O.T.
