A Decepticon escape pod lands on Earth and the Autobot Smokescreen emerges, while Starscream uses the Apex Armor to go on a quest for Red Energon.

Synopsis
Raf and Jack cruise the Internet for pictures of Bumblebee to replace with tap-dancing monkey pictures, while Miko forces Bulkhead to exercise so his legs don't atrophy. Jack notices a picture which Raf identifies as a Cybertronian escape pod. Arcee suggests bringing in Wheeljack as Bulkhead still isn't combat-ready, which Ratchet promptly shoots down due to recent events. Optimus orders Ratchet to come along with them instead, as there might be an injured Autobot in the pod. They GroundBridge into the crash site to find it's a Decepticon pod, and they're immediately under attack from their foe. The Vehicons, augmented by Insecticons, turn out to be a challenge, but then a new figure appears running through the trees. The newcomer's fire accidentally hits the energon leaking from the pod, and the Autobots take cover as it explodes, taking out the Decepticons. The over-enthusiastic newcomer happens to be Smokescreen, an Autobot rookie who becomes in awe when he meets the Optimus Prime. The Autobots are initially suspicious, remembering the last time a new Autobot turned up, but Smokescreen's tales of Alpha Trion and guarding the Hall of Records convinces Prime that he is legitimate.

Back at base, Miko's excited to meet the new Autobot. Smokescreen relates the story of the last days of Iacon and how he was captured by Decepticons during the siege, before escaping from a Decepticon transport ship in an escape pod. Smokescreen thinks with him there they'll have the war ended in no time, and Bulkhead drags himself in to show the newcomer how the war is going. Miko volunteers Jack to show Smokescreen around.

In the Harbinger, Starscream searches the Internet for interesting stuff and happens on an image of Red Energon at a construction site.

Jack shows Smokescreen around where the Cybertronian relics and Airachnid are stored. Bulkhead is upset that the others have brought in a replacement for him, but as they point out, Smokescreen is a newbie and needs a lot of training. Raf finds the same Red Energon photo that Starscream did. Smokescreen's keen to go out on the mission, but the others point out his need for training and an alternate mode.

Starscream arrives at the construction site, only to find it deserted and the Red Energon gone.

Smokescreen and Jack scope out vehicles driving near Jasper, and the Autobot is disappointed in the available vehicle forms. Meanwhile, Prime, Arcee and Bumblebee arrive at the dock where the Red Energon's been moved, and discover Starscream is already there. The Decepticon activates the Apex Armor and Optimus sends Arcee and Bumblebee to get the energon while he takes on Starscream. He reports back to base what's happening, and Smokescreen wants to go help, but is overruled by Ratchet.

Having dealt with Optimus, Starscream climbs up the crane after Arcee and Bumblebee. At base, Bulkhead urges Ratchet to let him go help, but Ratchet ignores him until they realize Smokescreen is missing. Ratchet finds him in the storeroom looking at the phase shifter. Meanwhile, Starscream reaches Arcee, only for Optimus to punch him right off the crane. Starscream tries to grab some of the Red Energon on the way down, breaking off a chunk. As Optimus starts hauling up the basket with the energon in it, Starscream grabs the bottom of the crane and tips it. He's interrupted by the arrival of Smokescreen through the GroundBridge. Using the phase shifter, the new Autobot kicks Starscream right out of the Apex Armor. While Smokescreen stands triumphant, Starscream fires off a missile at the crane, the ensuing explosion destroying the Red Energon meteor. Though the Autobots atop it survive, Starscream gets away with a chunk of Red Energon he broke off.

After they return to base, Smokescreen returns the phase shifter and the Apex Armor, after which Optimus officially welcomes him to Team Prime. Bulkhead looks on sadly, and though Miko tries to give him some encouraging words, he turns and limps back down the corridor.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
*As the Autobots run from the upcoming pod explosion, Optimus' arm weapons silently transform back into his hands.
*Smokescreen's Elite Guard logos disappear after he acquires an Earth mode, in exchange for his number 38 and checker racer decal.

Continuity errors
*As Optimus's report on the situation didn't mention the Apex Armor, how did Smokescreen know he needed the phase shifter?
*The Insecticons seem to die very easily in this episode. Arcee and Bumblebee take out one in a few seconds when last time it took them an entire episode.
*One of the pictures that Starscream looks through when searching the internet is the same one Raf had replaced with the tap-dancing monkey, which is placed right next to said monkey that Raf replaced it with.

Continuity notes
*Bumblebee has gained more pictures of himself on conspiracy websites since "One Shall Fall".
*The Autobots remember when Wheeljack first arrived and how that turned out.
*Ratchet is still upset at Wheeljack for pulling that "revenge stunt" with Miko in "Hurt".
*Bulkhead is still suffering injuries from "Toxicity", but now he can walk a bit.
*The spark extractor, immobilizer, phase shifter, and Airachnid are part of Jack's tour.
*Starscream still has the Apex Armor he obtained in "Triangulation". Well, had.

Transformers references
* Smokescreen references Constructicons, Halogen, Alpha Trion, the Elite Guard, and the High Council.
* Optimus recalls Alpha Trion as the master archivist in Iacon's Hall of Records, which was exactly his occupation in Transformers: Exodus.
* Smokescreen bears the Autobot Elite Guard symbol from the Transformers Animated series, and upon scanning an Earth mode, continues the tradition of Smokescreens wearing the number "38".
* In a likely coincidence (but with a chance of being intentional given the "Binder of Revelation"), in the TakaraTomy Prime toyline, some of the Arms Microns have Energon Crystals dubbed "Fast" energon... which are reddish-orange in color, rather like the red speed-imbuing energon introduced in this episode.
* The Decepticon warship Smokescreen was held captive aboard is similar in shape to Jhiaxus' ship, Twilight.
* Smokescreen states that the Elite Guard was more of a boot camp for him, possibly as a reference to the Animated episode, Autoboot Camp.

Real-world references
*Ratchet mentions the human phenomenon of the clown car.
*Starscream searches for information on the internet or as many refer to as "The Information Super Highway."

Trivia
*Starscream finds Earth humor funny. Guess Ratchet isn't the only one.
*As usual, the vehicle mode Smokescreen chooses completely matches his body. However, this is the first time a Transformer changes his paint job after getting a new vehicle mode.
*A new kind of Energon has been introduced with the regular, Dark, Synthetic, and Toxic forms, respectively. Perhaps it will also be called Red-En for short.

* Smokescreen bears the Autobot Elite Guard symbol from the Transformers Animated series.

Wheeljack returns to Earth to look for a new Decepticon named Dreadwing.

Synopsis
Agent Fowler calls the Autobots, furious about a Transformer fight outside Omaha with possible collateral damage. As the Autobots are all at base, Ratchet suggests the Decepticons are to blame, however a video feed reveals the combatants as a Skyquake-type Decepticon and Wheeljack. Fowler demands that the situation be handled pronto.

Fowler reaches the battleground in his jet first and demands the pair stop, only to be fired on by Wheeljack. A GroundBridge opens up, and the Autobots step out to help Wheeljack. Outgunned, the Decepticon seizes the opportunity to scan Fowler's jet and make his escape. Wheeljack fires after him, blowing up a gas station. Though Wheeljack believes that Dreadwing was to blame for the explosion, he's informed otherwise.

Back at base, Ratchet repairs Wheeljack, who apologizes for the damage and explains his pursuit of Dreadwing. He had found his fellow Wrecker Seaspray, only for his friend to be blown up by Dreadwing. After several solar systems worth of pursuit, Wheeljack caught up with the Decepticon on Earth. Optimus infers that Dreadwing has come to pay allegiance to Megatron. He tries to stem Wheeljack's hotheadedness, and Fowler arrives to admonish Wheeljack for nearly blowing their cover. Wheeljack doesn't take well to being called part of the team, and walks off, followed by Bulkhead who intends to placate him. Optimus does his best to smooth things over with Fowler.

Dreadwing rendezvous with the Nemesis. Megatron welcomes his loyalty, but Dreadwing reveals he has come to Earth to avenge his spark-twin Skyquake. When Megatron confirms Skyquake's death, the Seeker vows to make every Autobot on Earth pay, but Megatron would rather Dreadwing follow his orders.

As Wheeljack works on his ship, Bulkhead attempts to change his mind about the planet. Inside the Jackhammer, a challenge comes through over the commlink from Dreadwing. Wheeljack straps in to meet the 'Con, and convinced Bulkhead to come as well.

Dreadwing faces off against Wheeljack, both determined to finish their business. They exchange fire, and Dreadwing runs, leading Wheeljack past a series of proximity bombs that the Autobot evades. Dreadwing runs into a dead end, but it turns out to be a trap—as Bulkhead appears atop the crevice, a last bomb on the cliff face explodes, burying the two Wreckers under rubble as Dreadwing flies clear.

At base, Ratchet finds Bulkhead's transmission over a thousand miles away. At Optimus's inquiry, he says that no response has been made.

In the crevice, Optimus helps Wheeljack out of a pile of boulders and reprimands him for endangering Bulkhead. Ratchet informs Optimus over comm that Bulkhead's signal has moved.

Wheeljack and Optimus fly to Bulkhead's location, a shipping depot. They find him in an unfortunate predicament, strapped to a crate with a bomb wired into his chest. Wheeljack gets to work defusing the bomb. From the top of a crane, Dreadwing looks on. He receives a transmission from Megatron, and reveals what he's doing. Meanwhile, Bulkhead tries to stop Wheeljack from continuing his attempts to defuse the bomb and the pair notice that Optimus is gone.

Megatron allows Dreadwing to continue his plan, though he muses to Soundwave that he does not expect Dreadwing to come back. At the depot, Dreadwing notices Optimus is missing in time for the Autobot leader to appear nearby and appeal to Dreadwing's sense of honor. Dreadwing refuses the offer of defection, and fires upon Prime, who escapes into the maze of containers.

Realizing that Wheeljack is unlikely to defuse the bomb, Bulkhead takes matters into his own hands, punching out Wheeljack, tearing out of his restraints, and running away from his friend. Elsewhere, Dreadwing continues to spar with Optimus, but loses him from his sights. Bulkhead heads towards the water to muffle the explosion, but is stopped by Wheeljack, who has come to the realization that Optimus has the right idea—they need Dreadwing to defuse the bomb.

Searching the dock, Dreadwing is ambushed by Optimus crashing down on top of him with a shipping crane. Pinned, Dreadwing is surrounded by the three Autobots. Though he claims he would rather destroy himself if it will avenge his brother, Optimus calls his bluff, and he defuses the bomb. However, not about to leave empty handed, Dreadwing sets off the many bombs he had placed throughout the port, and flies off. Wheeljack wonders who will clean that up.

On the Nemesis, Megatron gloats about Dreadwing's defeat, but seems mildly surprised that the Seeker still lives. Dreadwing, in the wake of his defeat, pledges his total loyalty to Megatron.

At the base, Wheeljack apologizes for his misjudgment about Optimus earlier. The Autobots, sans Ratchet, convince Wheeljack to stay on Earth, though he opts to explore the planet. He's soon driving away with a new alternate mode.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
* When Wheeljack faces Dreadwing in the forest, the scar on his left shoulder (that was inflicted by Dreadwing in their first showdown on Earth) seems to have disappeared. Few moments later it's there again.
* When Wheeljack is chasing Dreadwing through the chasm, his grenade can be seen on his hip, despite it having been used earlier.
* When Ratchet is fixing the scar on Wheeljack's arm, Wheeljack's shoulder clips through his chest.

Continuity notes
* This episode features the first on-screen use of the term Terrorcon.
* Bulkhead brings up Optimus, Bee and Fowler's fight with Skyquake, and Arcee mentions his zombified resurrection at Starscream's hand which occurred in "Masters & Students" and "Shadowzone".
* Soundwave shows scenes of Optimus and Bumblebee's fight with Skyquake in "Masters & Students".

Transformers references
* Wheeljack namedrops former Wreckers Impactor, Roadbuster, Rotorstorm, and Pyro. The Generation 1 incarnations of these four characters are all Wreckers from various continuities: Impactor and Roadbuster were original members of the group when it was first introduced in "Target: 2006", while Rotorstorm and Pyro joined in Last Stand of the Wreckers. Like their Prime counterparts, all four characters have indeed been seen to die while serving as Wreckers in one continuity or another. Seaspray being a Wrecker, meanwhile, is a new addition.
* Wheeljack namedrops the Dromedon System and the planets Maderan and Sandokan.
* Dreadwing is referred to as a Seeker.
* Dreadwing references The Pit.
*Bulkhead called Seaspray "ol' barnacle butt", which references the deceased Autobot's hovercraft-mode in the G1 continuity.
*Optimus explains how the Wreckers are a separate team faction from the Autobots.

Real-world references
*Fowler compares the activities of the Wreckers to "black ops", a term for covert military operations. In popular culture, black ops are generally seen as being dirty business that regular soldiers aren't able to carry out, and units that carry them out are often independent of the normal chain of command. Describes the Wreckers pretty well.
*Fowler mentions Abraham Lincoln.
*Wheeljack calls Earth a marble. One of Earth's nicknames is the Blue Marble.

Trivia
*Fowler really needs to stop flying that jet of his around Decepticons who look like they turn into jets. He seems to be getting tired of it.
*Wheeljack finally takes an Earth-based vehicle mode. Seems like he's on Earth to stay.
*Dreadwing's proximity bombs have plates resembling his wings.
*Optimus didn't look very comfortable in Wheeljack's ship.
*Megatron actually sounds irritated when he's warning Dreadwing against going after Optimus. Seems he's getting tired of 'cons getting themselves maimed or killed trying to go after Prime.
*Late in the Robots in Disguise Vehicon toy's run, a variation appeared which added a DVD of the full "Loose Cannons" episode. The figure itself is unaltered.

Drones?
What makes these guys drones? So far in the cartoon they seem to be generic Decepticons. Who don't talk much. Also, where is their name from? - Starfield 18:16, 27 November 2010 (EST)
:They were named in the comic, if I recall correctly. If they're not drones, the Autobots sure don't seem to have too many qualms about killing them.--RosicrucianTalk 18:18, 27 November 2010 (EST)
:Starscream refers to them as drones in the second episode. Not sure if he's just referring to the miners or not though. --abates 18:35, 27 November 2010 (EST)
::"The drones have been mining in you absence." The drones pictured mining were far away, but didn't seem to have the same silhouette as the Eradicons. - Starfield 18:44, 27 November 2010 (EST)
Deus ex Machina muddies the issue somewhat further with Starscream's comment that "The crew took a vote", which would seem to be beyond the capability of drones. Although then he does go and randomly murder one. Of course, I suppose the crew he was referring to could have been named Decepticons aboard the Nemesis that haven't been shown yet, the same way there's nothing to suggest Makeshift wasn't aboard during Darkness Rising. 82.15.246.28 16:31, 14 March 2011 (EDT)
:Yeah, that would be my guess. I can't imagine non-living drones taking a vote would be something Screamer would care about, so we have to assume there are other Cons on the ship...--76.28.76.206 16:55, 14 March 2011 (EDT)
::They call them drones so they can show their robotic guts getting ripped out in a cartoon. Otherwise they can vote and disagree with Starscream and stuff as much as they want. - Starfield 17:13, 14 March 2011 (EDT)
:::They seem to follow the same 'rules' as Star Wars' Stormtroopers or GI Joe's Cobra Vipers. They may be intelligent, but they're just disposable troop fodder. A drone doesn't have to be mindless, after all, and it's pretty clear that the Vehicons have some degree of intelligence. So they're not the same as the drones from Beast Machines. As for the Autobots pounding on them, that's been explicitly answered - it's because they're part of the Decepticon's warrior caste. The Autobots are far more merciful to the worker caste Decepticons... typically. - Vanguard 18:28, 16 January 2012 (EST)
Is it possible that they lack a spark in the traditional sense? This would explain their being somewhat sentient, but not being "alive", and thus being disposable

Heads?
May be just me, but do the combat and mining variants have different helmets?
:No, they were called Vehicons. Terrorcons are the Dark Energon zombies. —Interrobang 17:29, 4 February 2011 (EST)
:But yes, you can add a note about them being called Vehicons in that game. - Starfield 17:32, 4 February 2011 (EST)

The gigantic Demolishor may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's smart enough to know when to fight openly and when to stick to the shadows. One of the Constructicons, Demolishor arrived on Earth to find Megatron dead, so he went into hiding, gathering other Decepticons who needed a big, blunt instrument to cower behind. Now in charge of this little band, he awaits the day when a new Decepticon leader will rise.

In the distant past, the AllSpark Cube created a race of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of Cybertron. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the AllSpark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

Demolishor (or a Transformer who shared his body-type) was among the very first of these new beings, one of several "builders" who would construct a harvester when a suitable sun had been found. Once built, the device would drain the energy of these stars, thus replenishing the AllSpark. Defiance issue 4 It is assumed that at some point during the civil war on Cybertron, he sided with Megatron, the new protege of Demolishor's only surviving ancient master, The Fallen.

During the war on Cybertron, Demolishor was used as a shock trooper, sowing terror amongst settlements of displaced Autobots. At one of his massacres there was a survivor, the Autobot Sideswipe.

Demolishor's modus operandi continued when he arrived on Earth, wreaking havoc in human cities, literally daring the Autobots to stop him so that, once baited, he could slaughter the Autobot forces. This caught the attention of Sideswipe, whom Demolishor had assumed was already dead. Delighting in the return of his old playmate, the Decepticon led Sideswipe on a destructive chase through Montevideo, Uruguay. Ultimately he was driven to ground again by the arrival of Optimus Prime and the human-Autobot NEST team. Tales of the Fallen issue 2

NEST arrived in Shanghai with a cover story from the Chinese government that there was a chemical spill in the area. Major Lennox and his men followed a radiation blip to a construction site where a massive excavator stood. Suddenly, the excavator transformed and revealed itself to be Demolishor! In fury, he smashed his arms on the ground, flinging concrete pipes onto approaching NEST troopers, crushing them, before rolling away. NEST's firepower availed them little as Demolishor shrugged off their attacks and smashed his way to the nearby freeway. Most of the Autobots were soon deployed to deal with his running comrade Sideways, leaving NEST with only Ironhide to deal with the massive Constructicon. Overhead, a C-17 Globemaster III circled, dropping the most powerful Autobot onto the battle field: Optimus Prime had entered the game.

As Demolishor rolled along the freeway, crushing cars, destroying barriers and casually tossing nearby cars to their doom, Optimus intercepted him at an overpass and leaped onto his head as the Decepticon reduced the overpass to rubble. Demolishor declined Optimus' demand for him to "pull over" forcing the Autobot leader to fire his Ion blaster into the former's head, soon followed by Ironhide jumping on and shooting out his massive tires. The crippled Decepticon crashed into a warehouse district and was helpless as Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and the rest of the NEST soldiers advanced.

Standing before the "Punk-ass Decepticon" as Ironhide dubbed him, Optimus inquired if there were any last words he wished to convey. In defiance, Demolishor declared with his dying breath that Earth was not their planet to rule, and that The Fallen would rise again. One short fight later, Demolishor was beaten, but not before he could tell the Autobots that their victory would be short-lived, and the Fallen would rise again.
:Demolishor transforms from a red Terex RH400 mining excavator into a unique robot mode via a surprisingly complex transformation. His Mech Alive gimmick in robot mode is a drum in each arm that spins when you move his lower arm (not in the shoulders as the packaging call out states). He has real rubber treads that sadly can't move, and no little plastic wheels that help it move either. He is almost impossible to stand up—let alone pose—but it can be managed.
On the back of the box, his treads are pictured as being made of several individual, linked plastic sections. The sections were apparently recast as a single rubber tread ring instead for the final toy.
*Demolishor is identical in design and vehicle form to Scavenger. In the film itself, Demolishor is mostly white with red striping and signage, but in other places his coloration matches Scavenger, such as his first toy, his Robot Heroes figure, and in his appearances in the video game and the comic adaptation. Repurposing is quite fitting, if one so chooses.

*In the comic adaptation, Demolishor's alternate mode is a different model of steam shovel. It is a smaller model that could more realistically hide out in a big city than the very large mining excavator of the toy and movie.

* Okay, what's a giant mining excavator doing anywhere near a steel mill, exactly? Isn't that like having an amphibious vehicle in the Rocky Mountains?

*Demolishor's demise in the movie may be viewed as a rather unfortunate moral grey area on the Autobots' part, and was at one point the focus of heated discussion by some fans.
**On the one hand, though likely as vicious as every other Decepticon shown in the movie continuity, he seemed to just be hiding, and did not attack until his discovery was imminent. To make matters worse, his toy bio, while far from flattering, seems to imply that he takes care of smaller frightened Decepticons out of the goodness of his spark. To top things off, his completely accurate statement that Earth was not the Autobots' to rule never actually implies that it is the Decepticons' either, although in that same statement he also menacingly mentions "the Fallen [rising] again." Again, clearly a monstrous mechanical bully... but how he died in the movie was still slightly unsettling.
**On the other hand, he was casually picking up passenger-filled cars in his hands and flinging them off the highway overpass to their doom as he was fleeing from NEST, even though they weren't in the way of his wheels (and mercilessly crushing those that were in his way), so it's not like the movie made no effort to paint him in a negative light. In addition, "Tales of the Fallen #2" painted him as a Decepticon that revels in destruction and creating collateral damage, and one that is responsible for several large-scale Autobot massacres in the past, making Demolishor's execution seem more justified.

*During the production of Revenge of the Fallen, the as-yet-unnamed Demolishor was referred to with the simple if descriptive moniker of "Wheelbot". Although Hasbro went on to provide a proper name for the character, Demolishor still wound up being listed as "Wheelbot" in the credits of the film itself.

*In 2010, Terex sold its mining products line (including the Terex RH400 excavator, Demolishor's alternate mode) to Bucyrus International. That means that Demolishor's altmode is now a Bucyrus RH400 mining excavator.

*Strangely, even though explosions that are targeted at NEST occur all around him at the steel mill, Demolishor has no guns or any other ranged weapons, using his size, weight and strength to cause destruction.

*He does have weapons in the Revenge of the Fallen game however, being missile launchers.
Slug and the rest of the Lightning Strike Coalition deserted their post defending the Ark when they detected strange energy readings in the Sea of Rust. The energy readings were caused by Shockwave's space bridge experiments at the energon lake, and when they arrived, they came under attack by Insecticons and were overwhelmed. Shockwave took the time to experiment on them, giving them primitive dinosaur forms. Slug broke free and trashed the lab he was in, melting a hole in the floor which he departed through. He roamed the caves until smashed through a door, crushing Kickback and finding Grimlock. Luckily for Grimlock and Swoop, he was able to lead them to where Snarl was being held by Sharpshot. Once Snarl was freed, they sought shelter in an observation post and found Shockwave's logs concerning his experiments on them and the space bridge. Against Grimlock's wishes, Slug contacted Optimus, who ordered them all back to base. Grimlock refused, instead heading out to destroy the space bridge tower himself, and the other Dinobots later watched from afar as the tower exploded. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Notes
*This is the second new name assigned to a counterpart of Generation 1 Slag; the first was Snarl (as in Animated Snarl and Robot Heroes Snarl, both of whom borrowed the name from Generation 1 Snarl).
*In addition to referring to a round of ammunition or a swift smack across the face, the word "slug" is used by blacksmiths to describe the hot, leftover piece of metal that is punched out when they need to make a hole in something. All of this is rather apt when considering Generation 1 Slag's personality.
Sludge and the rest of the Lightning Strike Coalition deserted their posts defending the Ark to look into some mysterious energy readings. He helped steal an Autobot drop ship and together the team traveled to the Sea of Rust. Unfortunately the energy readings related to Shockwave's recent activities near the energon lake, particularly his efforts on the space bridge and the creation of the Insecticons. The Lightning Strike Coalition battled the Insecticons, but while the others were captured for Shockwave's continued experiments, Sludge was seemingly killed. His body was found by Jazz, partially dismembered and grafted to the wall of an Insecticon hive. Jazz stated that he was in deep stasis. Jazz removed Sludge's memory core while attempting to find out what had happened in the tunnels. Jazz later flooded the tunnels with a highly toxic fluid and whether or not Sludge's body survived is unknown.
Bulkhead seeks the help of the Constructicons for a vital construction project, but, thanks to their new leader, the Constructicons have bigger and deadlier plans.

Synopsis
At Sumdac Tower, Isaac Sumdac and Bulkhead are spending the night working to construct a new space bridge, although Isaac is a bit distracted by the damaged Headmaster unit sitting in the lab. Bulkhead is eager to get the job done, but Sumdac is tired, having spent the previous night overriding the signal dampeners he created for the Decepticons.

Elsewhere in Detroit, the other Autobots are taking advantage of the overridden dampeners, and are on the trail of a Decepticon energy signature at that very moment. Unfortunately, the Decepticon in question turns out to be Lugnut, who doesn't shy away from a fight, and drops out of the sky on the pursuing Autobots, unleashing his "Punch of Kill Everything".

Back at Sumdac Tower, Sumdac loads the power core for the space bridge onto a forklift, as Bulkhead fits a few AllSpark fragments into it in order to give it a boost. When Bulkhead reclines against the core, however, the floor beneath them gives out, and the core, the forklift and the Headmaster unit go tumbling down, taking out a few more floors on their way. Luckily, Sumdac is saved from the fall by Bulkhead's wrecking ball, and retires to bed to recover from the shock. Bulkhead examines the damage, and decides that he knows just the experts to help him fix it... but as he departs, at the bottom of the pit, the Headmaster, the forklift, and the power core begin creeping towards each other, as the familiar glow of an AllSpark fragment lights up the darkness...

Across town, Mixmaster and Scrapper are enjoying the "show" at an automotive disassembly plant when Bulkhead, having tracked them down through their energy signatures, arrives to ask them for help. The two Constructicons refuse to work for the Autobots, until Bulkhead promises to keep the job "off the books". The trio return to Sumdac Tower, and Scrapper begins clearing the debris when suddenly, something grabs the other end of his shovel. The Constructicons reel in the offending item, which turns out to be a forklift... which promptly transforms into a diminutive robot that introduces itself as Dirt Boss. Bulkhead realizes that the forklift has fused with the Headmaster unit and the AllSpark fragment, and the perpetually cranky Dirt Boss quickly announces his intention to take charge of the Constructicons. Scrapper is amused by this prospect, but Dirt Boss brings him around to his way of thinking by launching a shell from his forehead which burrows into Scrapper's head and gives the tiny terror control of Scrapper's motor functions. Bulkhead contacts the other Autobots to inform them of the new problem, but they are too busy battling Lugnut to offer any help. Bulkhead is struggling to figure out what to do when Sumdac appears to find out what the commotion is all about. In order to keep his human friend safe from Dirt Boss, Bulkhead introduces Sumdac as his servant, and barks an order at the scientist to get back to work finishing the plasma dynamic thruster they require. Sumdac, of course, completely fails to understand Bulkhead's ruse, and becomes genuinely afraid of the big Autobot, scampering off in terror to complete his task. With that taken care of, Dirt Boss announces his plan to take back the city that machines like he helped build, by stealing the its oil. That, as it turns out, is a plan Mixmaster and Scrapper can definitely get behind! The Constructicons commence Dirt Boss's plan by hijacking a tanker truck, but when Bulkhead tries to talk them out of it, Mixmaster turns on him and glues him to the road with a pair of cement galoshes. The evil trio proceed to go on a crime spree, stealing oil from all over the city.
The other Autobots, meanwhile, have managed to get a pair of stasis cuffs on Lugnut, but find themselves lacking in the physical strength necessary to haul his paralyzed body out of the crater his punch had created earlier. The cable they are using to haul the huge Decepticon soon snap, putting them right back where they started.

Back at the Constructicons' plant, Mixmaster and Scrapper celebrate their successful run of heists by enjoying a tipple, but Dirt Boss promptly smacks the barrels from their hands, telling them they didn't steal the oil to drink it. Bulkhead, meanwhile, is snooping on the Constructicons through a nearby window when Professor Sumdac comes running up to him, with the plasma dynamic thruster completed as requested. Bulkhead struggles to make the human understand that he was merely acting before, but when the Constructicons hear the noise outside and come to investigate, Bulkhead has to start acting again and sends Sumdac away. This time, however, Sumdac has grasped Bulkhead's deception, and eavesdrops as Dirt Boss reveals his plan to blow up fossil fuel refinery, thereby giving him control of the largest supply of oil in the city. Bulkhead decides that he cannot let things go any further and attacks the Constructicons, but when his wrecking ball becomes jammed in Mixmaster's arm-cannon, the three Decepticons simply walk off, dragging the helpless Bulkhead behind them. They soon arrive at the refinery, where Bulkhead is able to give Scrapper and Mixmaster pause by asking them where they'll get any oil to drink if they blow up the refinery. With Mixmaster wavering, Dirt Boss takes control of his body, and orders him to finish Bulkhead off. The resulting fight is a bit on the awkward side, given that the two combatants are stuck together, and Bulkhead is able to open a comm channel to the other Autobots, transmitting the noise of the fight to them. Realizing their friend is in trouble, the other Autobots leave Lugnut lying in his crater, and race off to aid Bulkhead in battle.

The fight between Mixmaster and Bulkhead winds up damaging the refinery's main fuel tank, which begins leaking oil everywhere. Dirt Boss proceeds to remove his control shell from Mixmaster, and plants it in Bulkhead instead, intending to use the Autobot to ignite the oil and send the refinery up in flames. Mixmaster is distressed at this prospect, given that he is still stuck to Bulkhead, but neither Dirt Boss nor Scrapper are particularly bothered.

The other Autobots soon arrive at the refinery and nearly run over Professor Sumdac, who quickly brings them up to speed. Suddenly, Bulkhead comes storming towards the Autobots, whirling his wrecking ball (and Mixmaster) as he and Scrapper follow Dirt Boss's command to attack. Luckily, Ratchet is able to magnetically extract Dirt Boss's control shell, and Bulkhead uses some of the spill oil to loosen his wrecking ball and disconnect himself from Mixmaster. He then hurls the Constructicon at Scrapper, but when the two collide, their metal bodies create a spark that sets the refinery ablaze. Worse yet, Scrapper's fist has become lodged in Mixmaster's chest drum, but as the pair struggle to free themselves from each other so they can make themselves scarce, Dirt Boss leaps on Scrapper's head and takes manual control of his body, refusing to let either of them chicken out. The Constructicons wind up on top of the main fuel tank as the Autobots try to fight the fire below, but it soon becomes apparent that the heroes can't stop the tank from blowing. Sumdac suggests using the plasma dynamic thruster to TransWarp the tank away, and Bulkhead reprograms the device to do the job. Bulkhead hurls the thruster onto the top of the tank, and it and the Constructicons are warped away, materializing just off the shores of Dinobot Island seconds before the tank explodes.

With the Constructicon threat dealt with, the Autobots return to the crater to take Lugnut back into custody. Unfortunately, someone has beaten them to it: Lugnut has been liberated by Ramjet, who promises he'll never speak a word of the whole embarrassing affair.
*During Dirt Boss's debut scene and when he's telling his plan to blow up the fossil-fuel refinery, the position of his mouth switches several times from the middle of his face (at the "W" shape) to the bottom, and presumably correct, position.

Continuity errors
*When Bulkhead confronts Mixmaster and Scrapper, they speak to Bulkhead as if they remember the events that transpired in "Rise of the Constructicons", saying that they "don't work for no crankin' Autobots anymore" and referring to Bulkhead as "Bulky". While nothing says they can't have regained those memories by some point, if that's the case, it wasn't shown when this happened.

*More AllSpark fragments are shown in the beginning of the episode, yet all the previously collected pieces the Autobots found were placed into Omega Supreme last season. It's possible the Autobots have found some more since then, off-screen, but it seems an odd thing to omit, plus they would have only had between the end of "TransWarped" and the start of this episode to do so, which doesn't seem like a long time.

*The Constructicons' rampage goes on for long enough that newspapers pick up the story, and oil profits are seriously hurt. How long are the other Autobots hauling Lugnut out of that crater?

*Beginning in season 3 all slag lines were edited out in the UK. In this episode this results in Bumblebee inexplicably yelling "Who you calling pipsqueak? Short stuff!" even though no one calls him pipsqueak.
* Where the hell did the fire at the oil rig go after the oilsplosion?
* If an explosion that big took place in Lake Erie, there would be such a big wave in the aftermath that Detroit would have been underwater.

Transformers references
* At least one Detroit paper is titled the Detroit Powell Press. Porter C. Powell has corporate investments everywhere, it seems.

* The Headmaster unit was recovered last episode.

* The Fossil Fuel Oil Company's logo is Generation 1 Sludge doing an impression of the Sinclair Oil logo.

* This isn't the first series to have a space bridge in a tower.

* Several dockworkers are dressed in the standard Generation 1 cartoon costume.

* Dirt Boss would not be the first Transformer to use shells fired from his head to control others.

Foreign dubbing
:*Original airdate: 23 October 2010

Real-world references
*The Detroit Powell Press is a reference to a real-life Detroit paper, the Detroit Free Press. Minus the freedom.

*Scrapper and Mixmaster are found drinking heavily in a manufacturing plant that is deconstructing luxury cars piece by piece. Striptease, anyone?

*The climactic scene with Dirt Boss on top of the oil tank is closely based on the ending of the gangster movie White Heat.

Trivia
* The Detroit newspaper business is incredible; within what is apparently a single night of Constructicon rampage, the Detroit Powell Press puts out three separate editions announcing the new threat. Either that, or the Autobots spend a long time focusing on hauling Lugnut out of his crater and nothing else. (Though really, it's impressive that newspapers even still exist in the future...)
*It appears that Lugnut has accepted Starscream's clones (or at least Ramjet) as part of the main Decepticon force. Apparently, being Starscream's duplicate is fine as long as you worship the GLORIOUS Megatron.
*What exactly did Dirt Boss hope to accomplish by climbing up to the top of the oil tank, again?
*An exploding oil tank in the middle of Lake Erie is probably going to be a real mess, isn't it?
*David Kaye's voice credit for this episode lists Grimlock, in spite of the Dinobot not having any lines.
*On the other hand, Ratchet appears prominently, particularly in the Lugnut arc, but aside from a few grunts has no lines of dialogue, and Corey Burton is not credited.
*There is also a Decepticon forklift named Dirt Boss in the Revenge of the Fallen toyline. This is supposedly completely coincidental.
*This episode marks the final appearance of Mixmaster, Dirt Boss and the Headmaster unit
