Of all of [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]]'s warriors, '''Hellbat''' (ヘルバット ''Herubatto'') is by far the most underhanded and maniacal. As a member of the elite [[Breastforce]] team, he thinks that he would be much better suited to lead the unit than his commanding officer, [[Leozack]], and he goes to any lengths that he can to prove it to Deathsaurus. Hellbat is a highly accomplished spy, regularly obtaining information that none of his fellow Decepticons are able to, and formulating any number of plans and schemes in his never-ending quest to climb the greasy ladder. He is also a sneak of the highest order, constantly talking behind his teammates' backs and spreading rumors, but he's not sneaky enough to prevent his fellow Decepticons from knowing what he gets up to. It is perhaps not surprising, then, to learn that nobody likes Hellbat, and that they trust him even less than that. In fact, his teammates would all be quite happy to kick him out of the Breastforce, if not for his strangely skilled silver tongue. Hellbat is usually able to talk just about anyone around to his way of thinking just long enough. He would genuinely go to any length to keep his position in the Breastforce ranks, although he'll usually come off as just plain pathetic in the process.

In robot mode, Hellbat has one of the most useful special attacks among all the other Decepticons: with a chant of "Hypnotism, Sleep, Hibernation", he can project mesmerizing waves of sonic energy that weaken his opponents, leaving them open to his influence. His breastplate, [[Kōmoribreast]], can detach and transform into either a bat-like robot mode, or the hand-held "Kōmori Cannon" blaster. Like his fellow Breastforce warriors, Hellbat is also armed with an [[electromagnetic nunchaku]].

So it's a pity, then, that he's kind of a schmuck.

Hellbat can merge with his Breastforce teammates into [[Liokaiser]], forming the left arm of the super robot.

Hellbat summoned by Leozack to join the Breastforce on Earth after they had already waged several battles against [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]]'s [[Autobot]]s. Hellbat's first mission took him to the New Energy Resource Research and Development Laboratory in [[Japan]], where he deployed his Kōmoribreast to download information from the lab's computers. Discovered by one of the scientist, Hellbat knocked out the Autobot and [[human]] troops that attacked him and fled. He soon met back up with the rest of the Breastforce, and was chastised for being unable to keep his actions a secret by Leozack, who then decided to simply steal the entire contents of the lab. In the battle that resulted, Hellbat faced off against [[Blacker]], but the brawny Autobot overcame the Decepticon's hypnotic waves by stabbing himself in his own leg. The Decepticons were ultimately repelled by a brainwave-scrambler invented by [[Braver]], and when Leozack was chewed out by Deathsaurus for the team's failure, Hellbat silently observed the whole affair, deciding that he would be a much better leader than Leozack was. {{storylink|The New Warrior - Hellbat}}

Hellbat immediately set about currying Deathsaurus's favour, gathering information on an energy shipment leaving from a spaceport in Nevada. Leozack was enraged when Hellbat went over his head with the information and took it directly to Deathsaurus, but Hellbat won him around by appealing to his own desire to see Deathsaurus dethroned, explaining that they could take the energy for themselves. To their credit, they were able to abscond with the energy, but when Star Saber appeared to chase them down, Hellbat was shot out of the sky and decided to let Leozack fend for himself while Hellbat made plans to blame the whole debacle on his commander. {{storylink|Attack the Shuttle Base!!}}

After joining in on the Breastforce's attempt to ransom [[Marine City]] with a neutron bomb, {{storylink|Tanker Hijack Operation}} Hellbat put another scheme of his own to work. While the Breastforce kept most of the Autobots busy in a battle over a fleet of oil tankers, Hellbat invaded the under-staffed [[Shuttle Base]] and tried to steal information from its computers. When he tripped an alarm, Hellbat simply snatched a random computer disk and tried to flee, but when his way was barred by [[Galaxy Shuttle]], he kidnapped [[Jean Minakaze]] and [[Holi]] to ensure his safe getaway. The Autobots soon tracked him down to the temporary base he and the [[Dinoforce]] were using and rescued Holi and Jean, but Hellbat passed the buck, blaming Leozack and [[Gōryū]] for the bungled mission. When Autobots [[Mach]] and [[Tackle]] discovered a Breastforce scheme to tap hydroelectric power in Canada, Hellbat didn't fare very well in the ensuing chase, and wound up being lured into the nearby forest and entangled in a cluster of trees. {{storylink|Mach and Tackle}} Soon after, Hellbat participated in the Decepticons' plan to captured spacecraft in the asteroid belt. {{storylink|A Fierce Battle!! A little later, the Breastforce departed Earth for planet [[Micro]], intending to spring the sixth member of their team, [[Gaihawk]], from the Satellite Penitentiary on the planet's moon, so that they could combine to form the giant robot, Liokaiser. Before that mission got underway, however, the enterprising Hellbat decided to launch a series of raids on several of Micro's major energy-gathering facilities. Hiring the mercenaries [[Black Shadow]] and [[Blue Bacchus]] to aid him, Hellbat soon found he had to triple their cut to keep them on the job when Star Saber turned up to stop them. Rather than risk fighting Star Saber, Hellbat decided to cut his losses and blow up the plasma energy plant they were stealing from, but a parting shot from [[Greatshot]] destroyed what little energy he had already been able to steal, leaving him unable to pay the furious mercenaries. {{storylink|Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior}} Upon returning to the ''[[Thunder Arrow]]'' after this mission, Hellbat was met with threats of violence by the rest of the Breastforce, who were not impressed with his sneaking around behind their backs. Hellbat calmed his teammates by claiming that the energy he had tried to steal would have been intended for the whole team's personal use. The argument settled, the team set about their original goal, and attacked the Satellite Penitentiary to free Gaihawk. While the rest of the team held off Star Saber and his Autobots, Hellbat ventured into the prison to locate Gaihawk, only to have the object of his search be the one to find him, right when he was in the middle of ruminating on what effect the addition of Gaihawk to the Breastforce would have on his standing. Over-compensating to cover up his scheming, Hellbat met Gaihawk with hugs and kisses, and helped him recharge his energy from the prison's main supply. A battle between Gaihawk and Greatshot subsequently erupted, which sent the prison up in flames, forcing Hellbat to transform to jet mode and join Leozack in carrying their non-flying comrades to safety. {{storylink|Rescue! When Leozack did not invite Hellbat to the meeting to welcome Gaihawk back to the fold, he panicked, listened in on the conversation, and was horrified to discover that they were planning to kick him out of the team and replace him with an old comrade of Leozack's named [[Deathcobra (Victory)|Deathcobra]], who was already on his way to the planet. Hellbat intercepted Deathcobra before he reached the ''Thunder Arrow'', and petitioned him to simply leave, so that he could remain on the team. Deathcobra, however, was disgusted by Hellbat's cowardly request and swatted him out of the way, forcing Hellbat to draw his gun on him. Deathcobra dared Hellbat to pull the trigger, and to Hellbat's own surprise, he actually did, prompting a firefight between the two. Even as Hellbat squealed that it was an accident, he managed to unintentionally land a fatal shot on Deathcobra, killing him outright. Spotting the Autobot Micromaster [[Holi]] watching from a nearby ridge, Hellbat sped back to the ''Thunder Arrow'' and blamed Deathcobra's untimely end on him, then led the rest of the Breastforce in a "retaliatory" attack. Not long after the Breastforce returned to Earth, Hellbat discovered the existence of the [[Schaeffer Energy]] plant in America, and the Breastforce led the charge in raiding it. {{storylink|Battle Up of Wrath!!}} After this, Hellbat let his own schemes and plans take a back seat for a while, and was content to simply participate in a series of missions without any of his typical backstabbing: drilling oil in Antarctica; {{storylink|Fight to the Death!! Antarctic Battle}} ambushing the [[Brainmaster]]s in the desert; {{storylink|Crisis! Ambush in the Desert}} aiding Deathsaurus in laying a trap for Star Saber; {{storylink|A Deadly Battle}} and raiding energy from a solar power plant. {{storylink|Ginrai Dies!!}}

After this temporary bout of restraint, Hellbat started looking out for number one again when he had his Kōmoribreast sneak into the Shuttle Base on an information gathering mission, which led him to learn of the apparent death of God Ginrai. He took this report to Deathsaurus, and also informed his emperor of another discovery he had made: the existence of a large energy stockpile in America. He, Leozack and the Dinoforce proceeded to attack a tractor trailer delivering a load of energy to this stockpile, but were easily defeated by the reborn Ginrai, who had been recreated as [[Victory Leo]]. {{storylink|Fight!! Victory Leo}} When Victory Leo again roared into battle to thwart the Breastforce's attempt to pillage the Mount Asama geothermal energy plant, Hellbat was in no rush to confront the feral Autobot, but he didn't have any compunctions about chasing the helpless Jean Minakaze through the plant's corridors and locking him in the exploding building. {{storylink|Awaken! When Leozack tried posing as Star Saber in order to infiltrate the Shuttle Base and steal information on the Autobot leader's ability to combine with Victory Leo, Hellbat helped complete the illusion by broadcasting a fake message to the Autobots, demanding that "Star Saber" bring the relevant computer disk to him or he would blow their base up with hidden bombs. {{storylink|A Mystery?! The Deception of the Base Bombs}} After the failure of that plan, Hellbat was next dispatched to a jungle planet somewhere in the depths of space to search for the metal-eating [[Dorya]] insects, which he had previously heard about while visiting [[Planet X (Victory)|Planet X]]. His hatred of the wilderness notwithstanding, Hellbat successfully retrieved the insects and brought them back to Earth and helped unleash them against the Autobots, but the scheme turned sour when the heroic robots discovered that intense cold could defeat the little metal-munchers. Hellbat's final plot was his grandest: he actually succeeded in locating the lost continent of [[Atlantis]] and its massive supply of energy, and took the information straight to Deathsaurus. This proved to be the last straw for Leozack, who gave Hellbat a ferocious beating, until Hellbat revealed what he had told Deathsaurus: raise the continent and use its energy to recharge Deathsaurus's [[Planet-Destroying Fortress]]. {{storylink|The Terror of the Giant Tidal Waves}} The plan succeeded, and with this Atlantean energy in their clutches, the Breastforce and Deathsaurus departed for space, heading right for the fortress. The Autobots pursued the villains, but were unable to stop them from bringing the fortress back online. {{storylink|The Wrath of the Resurrected Giant Fortress!}} To keep the Autobots busy while the fortress's main cannon charged, Deathsaurus dispatched the Breastforce—combined as Liokaiser—to battle them. In the course of the clash, Victory Leo was able to blast Liokaiser into the fortress's cannon barrel, which drained his energy dry. With his consciousness fading and his body unable to move, Liokaiser could only utter a fading scream for help as he drifted off into the depths of space. {{storylink|Showdown! Hellbat debuted silently, standing behind Gaihawk as he informed Deathsaurus that Leozack had gone off on a solo mission, foolishly believing that he could conquer Earth on his own. {{storylink|Leozack Rumbles Violently!}}

Later, Hellbat and the other Breastforcers combined into Liokaiser to battle Star Saber on [[Energy Planet X]]. When the combiner warrior managed to seize Star Saber, his individual components began arguing over who would get right to destroy the Autobot leader; Hellbat believed he was the one who should be allowed to "switch them off". Star Saber exploited the opening to turn the battle around, and Liokaiser was defeated and escaped. {{storylink|The Star of Friendship, Jean and Star Saber!}} In their next battle with Star Saber, the Breastforce almost had him defeated thanks to the aid of Deathsaurus and Dinoking, but the tables were turned when Star Saber merged with new arrival Victory Leo, to form Victory Saber. {{storylink|The Strongest Partners, the Combination of Victory!}}

In their next battle, Liokaiser and Deathsaurus were defeated by the Autobots' "Five Stars of Victory" attack technique, and Liokaiser split back into Gaihawk and the rest of the Breastforce to flee back to Deathsaurus's "Space Stronghold". {{storylink|Shine! The Five Stars of Victory}} From the stronghold, the Decepticons began a final attack on Earth, bombarding the planet with meteors, but the Autobots succeeded in thwarting their scheme, despite a bit of attempted treachery courtesy of Leozack. At the battle's end, Deathsaurus revealed that the fortress was home to the Decepticon civilians, and that they had been fighting to keep them safe. Struck by this revelation, Star Saber decided that it was time for the Autobots and Decepticons to lay down their arms, and live in peace—the truest victory of all! {{storylink|Heroic! Hellbat was part of [[Banzai-Tron (G1)|Banzai-Tron]]'s squad of Decepticons sent to [[Beta-Nine]] to retrieve some valuable cargo from the crashed ''[[Van De Graaff]]''. Hellbat, Banzai and [[Gaihawk]] had the young [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] cornered, but Hellbat's hypnotism ability drew the impressionable young bot out. Somewhere in the depths of the ocean, [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]] "reminds" his troops aboard the ''[[Thunder Arrow]]'' of the large amount of energy they need to gather in other to free his fortress from the [[Dark Nebula]]... by blasting them with a burst of flame. Only [[Drillhorn]] stands unmoving as the other [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] scatter, petitioning his emperor for calmness so that he can outline his plan to steal a tanker. Deathsaurus approves the plan, but [[Leozack]] is not happy that his subordinate has superseded his authority.

Some time later, on the west coast of [[United States of America|America]], [[Marine City]] suddenly finds its gasoline supplies inexplicably drying up. The strange occurrence naturally attracts the attention of the [[Autobot|Autobots]], and [[Star Saber (Victory)|Star Saber]], suspecting Decepticon involvement, dispatches the [[Brainmaster|Brainmasters]] to investigate. Examining gasoline tanks across the city, they find that they have been punctured and drained from beneath. A dog's barking leads [[Blacker]] to catch Drillhorn and [[Jarugar]] in the act, but after a brief pursuit, the Decepticons flee.

Meanwhile, to try and resolve the fuel crisis, Marine City's Mayor Burns requests a shipment of gasoline from a neighboring state, which is delivered in the tanker "Big Baron"... just as the Decepticons have planned. Drillhorn contacts the mayor's office, warning him that if the Big Baron is not left to their tender mercies once it has docked, Marine City will be blown up. The mayor wastes no time in alerting the Autobots to this new development, and as he talks with Star Saber, Blacker radios in a report – he and the Brainmasters have had a scuffle with the [[Dinoforce]], and have learned that the villains have planted a neutron bomb somewhere in Marine City. Aware of the potential for disaster, Star Saber directs the mayor to evacuate the city, and heads out to the scene himself.

Star Saber meets up with the Brainmasters at Marine City, and they begin their search for the neutron bomb, but despite combing the city all night, they turn up nothing. As dawn breaks and the Big Baron arrives, the Autobots can do nothing but watch as the [[Breastforce]] arrive to take control of the tanker, and the ''Thunder Arrow'' emerges from beneath the ocean to draw the tanker inside itself. Blacker quietly swims over to the tanker to investigate, where he finds Leozack gloating and showing off the remote detonator for the neutron bomb to the human crew, telling them that it's been hidden at the top of the city's "Marine Tower." Blacker radios his discovery to his fellow Autobots, but the Decepticons have planned for this eventuality and the Dinoforce are waiting to attack them as they head for Marine Tower.

While [[Braver]] flies the [[V-Star]] to the top of the tower to deal with the bomb, Blacker, [[Laster]] and Saber battle with [[Dinoking]], even as the tanker is steadily swallowed by the ''Thunder Arrow''. With time running out, Saber summons the V-Star and breaks off to save the tanker, but Leozack forces him to hold back by threatening to detonate the neutron bomb. Saber almost manages to steal away the detonator, but the Breastforce's [[Breast Animal|Breast Animals]] reclaim it, and Saber continues to draw out the battle while the V-Star attacks from below, successfully knocking out the tractor beams the ''Thunder Arrow'' is using to draw in the tanker.

Deathsaurus pulls the ''Thunder Arrow'' out, but Leozack has a parting gift for Star Saber, and activates the detonator... only for nothing to happen. Furiously, Leozack hits the button over and over again, and the remote blows up in his face—Braver has successfully disassembled the bomb and saved Marine City. The singed Leozack makes good his escape, hot on the heels of Dinoking, who has been blinded and bested by the other Brainmasters.

After the battle, sunset, Autobots regroup, burning rage in their hearts, etc. You know how it goes by now.

'''Jetfire''' is a bot of science, literally. Not only is his mind dedicated towards scientific pursuits, but his body is a testament to the technology he studies so intensely. (Some would say "religiously", but not in his presence.) Every inch of his chassis is cutting-edge and kept up-to-date. However, he does not have the trust of his teammates; it was not so long ago that he was a Decepticon. Jetfire is compassionate, so some Autobots feel that he could be soft on their enemies or, even worse, he may turn on them after realizing his "cold calculations" swing the other way.

Jetfire would find their misconceptions about science appalling. After all, is not science just the pursuit of truth? And truth, he maintains, walks hand-in-hand with liberty.

[[MYA|Millions of years ago]] on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], before the war, Skyfire and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] were good friends and fellow scientists. On a mission of exploration to prehistoric [[Earth]], Skyfire was lost in a storm. Starscream searched, but there was no sign of his comrade. He returned home.

Millions of years later, after the Autobots and [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] had crashed and awoken on Earth, the Decepticons found Skyfire, encased in a block of Arctic ice, and revived him. Skyfire joined them due to his past friendship with Starscream, though he expressed discomfort with their methods. When Skyfire's compassion for [[human]]s and, later on, several Autobot prisoners led to his disobeying orders, Starscream, who had changed much in the intervening millennia, turned on his friend. Skyfire left the Decepticons and joined the Autobots, sacrificing himself to be buried beneath the ice again to stop the Decepticons' plans. The Autobots returned later to dig him up when they needed a ride down to South America. [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and his Decepticons were in [[Peru]] seeking the [[Crystal of Power]], which was kept in an Incan temple. After battling the Decepticons, Skyfire arrived at the temple to find [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] guarding it and the crystal inside. Thundercracker was angry at Starscream, and was willing to let Skyfire past him to destroy the crystal so long as Starscream got in trouble. Starscream overheard this and shot Skyfire in the back, knocking him out.

As the old adage goes, do something right once, and it's your job. Skyfire and most of the Autobots were distorted by Megatron’s [[personality destabilizer]], turning them evil. As Skyfire was hunting down and blowing up human aircraft, Autobots who had been reverted to good by Sparkplug’s [[attitude exchanger]]s arrived on scene and changed Skyfire back. He then flew the Autobots and humans to save Optimus Prime and the others {{storylink|Attack of the Autobots}}

Flying overhead, the trio discovered that the bad bots were stealing the oil using a platform docking structure, secured by a force field. Skyfire, Hound and Spike hid aboard one of the tankers and attacked Megatron and Hook as they siphoned the oil. As usual, Spike was captured by the Decepticons and held hostage, forcing Skyfire and Hound to surrender. Confined to a cell on a lower deck, Skyfire warned Spike to be careful of an [[electromagnet]] he found as the human put his escape plan into action. With Rumble and Ravage incapacitated by the magnet, Skyfire punched through the cell door. The three rushed to the control room for the force field generator. Skyfire and Spike kept [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] distracted as Hound blew up the generator, causing the force field dome to collapse. Facing defeat, Megatron activated the platform’s self-destruct function, which left Skyfire and his two friends stuck inside as the structure began to sink. Optimus Prime ripped through the bulkhead above them and the three were able to climb out. Skyfire flew them all to safety.{{storylink|Day of the Machines}}

In 2006, Skyfire (or a very similar space vehicle) can be briefly seen as part of the Autobot fleet attacking the [[Quintesson]]s. Jetfire was once friends with the Decepticon [[Cyberjet]]s during his days back on Cybertron. However, after the war had raged on for centuries, two of his Cyberjet friends ([[Strafe (G2)|Strafe]] and [[Aero Raid]]) began to have their doubts about the Decepticon cause. Taking Jetfire's advice, the two Cyberjets switched sides and became Autobots. At one point, Megatron kidnapped the Autobot [[Laser Rod]], [[Electro]]. While Megatron attempted to persuade Electro into joining the Decepticons, Jetfire infiltrated the headquarters. On a trip into the future with her companion [[Steeljaw (G1)|Steeljaw]], the humanoid computer [[Teletraan 15]] encountered the Autobot scientist Jetfire. He immediately realized that they had come from a different time and cautioned them that the area was about to become a war zone. Recognizing Jetfire's scent despite the unfamiliar body, Steeljaw asked if he was the same being as his old warrior acquaintance.

Concerned for the pair's safety, Jetfire offered to take them to his commander, unaware that the Decepticons [[Smokescreen (G2)|Smokescreen]] and [[Dreadwing (G2)|Dreadwing]] were following. Under heavy attack, Jetfire and his passengers were saved by the intervention of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Battle Convoy]].

Early in the war on [[Earth]], [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] held the head of [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] captive, hoping to use the [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]] he possessed to create a new army of Decepticons. Optimus Prime had secretly passed the energies of the Matrix onto the teenaged [[human]], [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster Witwicky]], so Shockwave was stopped short of giving Jetfire's constructed body life. Shockwave soon learned of the human's involvement, so he sent Jetfire after the human anyway, though the lifeless robot could do nothing more than follow orders. When Jetfire found Buster, he was accompanied by the Autobots [[Bluestreak]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] for his protection, but it was Buster's Creation Matrix powers that ultimately disassembled Jetfire before their eyes. Buster reassembled Jetfire, and with Bumblebee's help, changes were made to allow Buster to directly control him. {{storylink|Brainstorm!}}

However, Jetfire's programming reasserted itself, and maneuvered so wildly that Buster, riding in the cockpit, blacked out. Buster woke up inside Shockwave's base (a former [[Blackrock Industries]] plant), strapped to a machine ready to drill the Creation Matrix out of him. In the meantime, knowing that the Autobots were eavesdropping on him, Shockwave sent Jetfire to drop a fake Optimus Prime head at a disclosed location for the Autobots to find. The fake head attached itself to Optimus Prime's body and began attacking the Autobots, causing many injuries. At the last moment, Buster was able to control Jetfire once again, knocking out Shockwave, and delivering the true Optimus Prime head to the Autobots, allowing them a costly victory. {{storylink|Prime Time!}}

With Optimus Prime fully restored, Jetfire was quickly given life and joined the Autobots. Before the war, the scientist Jetfire and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] were friends. But when Starscream joined the Decepticons in their assault on outlying city-states, Jetfire was torn. If he followed his beliefs and upheld justice and life, he would end up facing his dearest friend on the battlefield. Jetfire did end up with the Autobots, but not before a barrier of distrust had been built between them due to his inaction and his past loyalties.

These loyalties came to a head during a period when [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] were presumed lost forever, the two factions splintered into five. Events conspired behind the scenes, building up to an unknown crescendo, and Jetfire was suspicious. Putting his already-shaky trustworthiness on the line, he met up with [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] in secret to discuss the looming front of darkness. Combined forces from several factions penetrated The Fallen's operation, but despite Jetfire and Grimlock's teamwork, The Fallen was destroyed only by his own scheme — the hand of [[Primus]] reached out, awakened from his slumber, and smote the enigmatic being to pieces. Long after, Jetfire and [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] were sent out into space to search for the missing [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. Years of war had put the Transformers' home world of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] through too much punishment, meaning a spiral into planet-wide cataclysm, a consequence the scientist [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]] had foreseen. Jetfire and other Transformers scientists ignored his warning, until it was too late. Thunderwing underwent the [[Pretender|polydermal grafting]] process he had developed, and was driven insane, forcing the Autobots and Decepticons to unite and try to stop him. Jetfire spent the battle trying to figure out a way to effectively counter Thunderwing, but Cybertron itself swallowed Thunderwing before he could find a way. Cybertron was abandoned as a result.

Seven hundred stellar cycles later, and against regulations, Jetfire and the [[Technobot (G1)|Technobot]]s traveled to the supposedly-abandoned husk of Cybertron from their science vessel, the ''[[Calabi-Yau]]'', to investigate a strange energy reading. Though it violated several command directives, Jetfire decided to lead a recon mission to the surface. Despite the misgivings everyone had, Jetfire remained adamant that they investigate, saying that a failure to investigate was what doomed Cybertron to begin with. Upon arriving on the dead surface of the planet near [[Thunderhead Pass]], Jetfire, [[Scattershot]], [[Afterburner (G1)|Afterburner]], and [[Lightspeed (Technobot)|Lightspeed]] were ambushed by a mysterious group of robots with stealth abilities. The Technobots were badly damaged and Jetfire was captured. When he revived, he found his [[Pretender|captors]] worshiping the reanimated corpse of Thunderwing. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 1}}

Their leader, [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], wished to revisit the mad scientist's plot and harness the power that accelerated the planet's death in a apocalyptic torrent all those years ago. Jetfire pleaded with Bludgeon not to again unleash the powers that destroyed their planet, but he was ignored, and his attempts to escape were thwarted. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 2}} Thanks to a distress signal sent by the remaining Technobots in the ''Calabi-Yau'', [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the [[Wrecker]]s soon arrived, released Jetfire, and defeated his captors, just before an alert system announced the arrival of Thunderwing, newly reborn. {{storylink|Stormbringer issue 3}}

Fortunately Jetfire was able to figure out that the [[Ultra-Energon]] powering Thunderwing would be depleted in a prolonged struggle. Jetfire was later called in to take the [[Pretender Monster]]s to the [[Garrus-9]] prison and attempt to cure them. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} Every previous attempt had failed, but whether he may have found a cure to their combined minds was then rendered moot when the Decepticons attacked and abducted the Monsters. He convinced [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] to let [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] "escape" to hunt the Monsters down, and they would invent some story afterward. {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}}

Shortly after Optimus Prime arrived on Garrus-9, [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] activated the [[Nega-Core]] and its guardian, Thunderwing, on [[Corata-Vaz]]. We may never be certain of the exact circumstances behind the change from Jetfire to Skyfire. There are, however, a few known factors, and a lot of theories.

* Not all of Hasbro's ''Transformers'' product originated with [[Takara]]. Among others, the ''Macross'' Super Valkyrie, the toy that would become Jetfire, came from a company called [[Takatoku Toys]]. Why did Hasbro market non-Takara product? [[Bob Prupis]], one of the original members of the Transformers marketing team, would frequently go to Toy Fairs in Asia, where ''"any product that really looked good that was exciting we didn't care where it came from. We did some work with Bandai, who had been working with other people, and took a few products that looked right for our line"''.<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/94f5cb70b08a646d G1 Hasbro marketing executives panel]</ref> The Super Valkyrie, then, must have met their criteria for inclusion.

* As a larger toy, it would follow that Hasbro would want to sell Jetfire by including him in the Transformers animated series. However, even though Hasbro had the rights to release Takatoku's Super Valkyrie in the US ''Transformers'' toyline, Hasbro's chief collaborator on ''Transformers'' was still Takara. That show began airing in syndication in March of 1985, whereas ''"Fire In The Sky"'', the first episode with Skyfire, aired December 8th, 1984 - and would have had to have been written and animated much before then. Statements indicate that it took nine months to edit Robotech together, placing the start of production somewhere around July of 1984. So... who knows. All that's certain is that Hasbro licensing the Super Valkyrie seemingly '''did''' prevent the use of that toy in Matchbox's ''Robotech'' toyline.

Beyond Prupis's statement and the notes in the story bible, however, nothing supporting (or denying) any of the previous statements have come out.

Of all of [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]]'s warriors, '''Hellbat''' (ヘルバット ''Herubatto'') is by far the most underhanded and maniacal. As a member of the elite [[Breastforce]] team, he thinks that he would be much better suited to lead the unit than his commanding officer, [[Leozack]], and he goes to any lengths that he can to prove it to Deathsaurus. Hellbat is a highly accomplished spy, regularly obtaining information that none of his fellow Decepticons are able to, and formulating any number of plans and schemes in his never-ending quest to climb the greasy ladder. He is also a sneak of the highest order, constantly talking behind his teammates' backs and spreading rumors, but he's not sneaky enough to prevent his fellow Decepticons from knowing what he gets up to. It is perhaps not surprising, then, to learn that nobody likes Hellbat, and that they trust him even less than that. In fact, his teammates would all be quite happy to kick him out of the Breastforce, if not for his strangely skilled silver tongue. Hellbat is usually able to talk just about anyone around to his way of thinking just long enough. He would genuinely go to any length to keep his position in the Breastforce ranks, although he'll usually come off as just plain pathetic in the process.

In robot mode, Hellbat has one of the most useful special attacks among all the other Decepticons: with a chant of "Hypnotism, Sleep, Hibernation", he can project mesmerizing waves of sonic energy that weaken his opponents, leaving them open to his influence. His breastplate, [[Kōmoribreast]], can detach and transform into either a bat-like robot mode, or the hand-held "Kōmori Cannon" blaster. Like his fellow Breastforce warriors, Hellbat is also armed with an [[electromagnetic nunchaku]].

So it's a pity, then, that he's kind of a schmuck.

Hellbat can merge with his Breastforce teammates into [[Liokaiser]], forming the left arm of the super robot.

Hellbat summoned by Leozack to join the Breastforce on Earth after they had already waged several battles against [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]]'s [[Autobot]]s. Hellbat's first mission took him to the New Energy Resource Research and Development Laboratory in [[Japan]], where he deployed his Kōmoribreast to download information from the lab's computers. Discovered by one of the scientist, Hellbat knocked out the Autobot and [[human]] troops that attacked him and fled. He soon met back up with the rest of the Breastforce, and was chastised for being unable to keep his actions a secret by Leozack, who then decided to simply steal the entire contents of the lab. In the battle that resulted, Hellbat faced off against [[Blacker]], but the brawny Autobot overcame the Decepticon's hypnotic waves by stabbing himself in his own leg. The Decepticons were ultimately repelled by a brainwave-scrambler invented by [[Braver]], and when Leozack was chewed out by Deathsaurus for the team's failure, Hellbat silently observed the whole affair, deciding that he would be a much better leader than Leozack was. {{storylink|The New Warrior - Hellbat}}

Hellbat immediately set about currying Deathsaurus's favour, gathering information on an energy shipment leaving from a spaceport in Nevada. Leozack was enraged when Hellbat went over his head with the information and took it directly to Deathsaurus, but Hellbat won him around by appealing to his own desire to see Deathsaurus dethroned, explaining that they could take the energy for themselves. To their credit, they were able to abscond with the energy, but when Star Saber appeared to chase them down, Hellbat was shot out of the sky and decided to let Leozack fend for himself while Hellbat made plans to blame the whole debacle on his commander. {{storylink|Attack the Shuttle Base!!}}

After joining in on the Breastforce's attempt to ransom [[Marine City]] with a neutron bomb, {{storylink|Tanker Hijack Operation}} Hellbat put another scheme of his own to work. While the Breastforce kept most of the Autobots busy in a battle over a fleet of oil tankers, Hellbat invaded the under-staffed [[Shuttle Base]] and tried to steal information from its computers. When he tripped an alarm, Hellbat simply snatched a random computer disk and tried to flee, but when his way was barred by [[Galaxy Shuttle]], he kidnapped [[Jean Minakaze]] and [[Holi]] to ensure his safe getaway. The Autobots soon tracked him down to the temporary base he and the [[Dinoforce]] were using and rescued Holi and Jean, but Hellbat passed the buck, blaming Leozack and [[Gōryū]] for the bungled mission. When Autobots [[Mach]] and [[Tackle]] discovered a Breastforce scheme to tap hydroelectric power in Canada, Hellbat didn't fare very well in the ensuing chase, and wound up being lured into the nearby forest and entangled in a cluster of trees. {{storylink|Mach and Tackle}} Soon after, Hellbat participated in the Decepticons' plan to captured spacecraft in the asteroid belt. {{storylink|A Fierce Battle!! A little later, the Breastforce departed Earth for planet [[Micro]], intending to spring the sixth member of their team, [[Gaihawk]], from the Satellite Penitentiary on the planet's moon, so that they could combined to form the giant robot, Liokaiser. Before that mission got underway, however, the enterprising Hellbat decided to launch a series of raids on several of Micro's major energy-gathering facilities. Hiring the mercenaries [[Black Shadow]] and [[Blue Bacchus]] to aid him, Hellbat soon found he had to triple their cut to keep them on the job when Star Saber turned up to stop them. Rather than risk fighting Star Saber, Hellbat decided to cut his losses and blow up the plasma energy plant they were stealing from, but a parting shot from [[Greatshot]] destroyed what little energy he had already been able to steal, leaving him unable to pay the furious mercenaries. {{storylink|Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior}} Upon returning to the ''[[Thunder Arrow]]'' after this mission, Hellbat was met with threats of violence by the rest of the Breastforce, who were not impressed with his sneaking around behind their backs. Hellbat calmed his teammates by claiming that the energy he had tried to steal would have been intended for the whole team's personal use. The argument settled, the team set about their original goal, and attacked the Satellite Penitentiary to free Gaihawk. While the rest of the team held off Star Saber and his Autobots, Hellbat ventured into the prison to locate Gaihawk, only to have the object of his search be the one to find him, right when he was in the middle of ruminating on what effect the addition of Gaihawk to the Breastforce would have on his standing. Over-compensating to cover up his scheming, Hellbat met Gaihawk with hugs and kisses, and helped him recharge his energy from the prison's main supply. A battle between Gaihawk and Greatshot subsequently erupted, which sent the prison up in flames, forcing Hellbat to transform to jet mode and join Leozack in carrying their non-flying comrades to safety. {{storylink|Rescue! When Leozack did not invite Hellbat to the meeting to welcome Gaihawk back to the fold, he panicked, listened in on the conversation, and was horrified to discover that they were planning to kick him out of the team and replace him with an old comrade of Leozack's named [[Deathcobra (Victory)|Deathcobra]], who was already on his way to the planet. Hellbat intercepted Deathcobra before he reached the ''Thunder Arrow'', and petitioned him to simply leave, so that he could remain on the team. Deathcobra, however, was disgusted by Hellbat's cowardly request and swatted him out of the way, forcing Hellbat to draw his gun on him. Deathcobra dared Hellbat to pull the trigger, and to Hellbat's own surprise, he actually did, prompting a firefight between the two. Even as Hellbat squealed that it was an accident, he managed to unintentionally land a fatal shot on Deathcobra, killing him outright. Spotting the Autobot Micromaster [[Holi]] watching from a nearby ridge, Hellbat sped back to the ''Thunder Arrow'' and blamed Deathcobra's untimely end on him, then led the rest of the Breastforce in a "retaliatory" attack. Not long after the Breastforce returned to Earth, Hellbat discovered the existence of the [[Schaeffer Energy]] plant in America, and the Breastforce led the charge in raiding it. {{storylink|Battle Up of Wrath!!}} After this, Hellbat let his own schemes and plans take a back seat for a while, and was content to simply participate in a series of missions without any of his typical backstabbing: drilling oil in Antarctica; {{storylink|Fight to the Death!! Antarctic Battle}} ambushing the [[Brainmaster]]s in the desert; {{storylink|Crisis! Ambush in the Desert}} aiding Deathsaurus in laying a trap for Star Saber; {{storylink|A Deadly Battle}} and raiding energy from a solar power plant. {{storylink|Ginrai Dies!!}}

After this temporary bout of restraint, Hellbat started looking out for number one again when he had his Kōmoribreast sneak into the Shuttle Base on an information gathering mission, which led him to learn of the apparent death of God Ginrai. He took this report to Deathsaurus, and also informed his emperor of another discovery he had made: the existence of a large energy stockpile in America. He, Leozack and the Dinoforce proceeded to attack a tractor trailer delivering a load of energy to this stockpile, but were easily defeated by the reborn Ginrai, who had been recreated as [[Victory Leo]]. {{storylink|Fight!! Victory Leo}} When Victory Leo again roared into battle to thwart the Breastforce's attempt to pillage the Mount Asama geothermal energy plant, Hellbat was in no rush to confront the feral Autobot, but he didn't have any compunctions about chasing the helpless Jean Minakaze through the plant's corridors and locking him in the exploding building. {{storylink|Awaken! When Leozack tried posing as Star Saber in order to infiltrate the Shuttle Base and steal information on the Autobot leader's ability to combine with Victory Leo, Hellbat helped complete the illusion by broadcasting a fake message to the Autobots, demanding that "Star Saber" bring the relevant computer disk to him or he would blow their base up with hidden bombs. {{storylink|A Mystery?! The Deception of the Base Bombs}} After the failure of that plan, Hellbat was next dispatched to a jungle planet somewhere in the depths of space to search for the metal-eating [[Dorya]] insects, which he had previously heard about while visiting [[Planet X (Victory)|Planet X]]. His hatred of the wilderness notwithstanding, Hellbat successfully retrieved the insects and brought them back to Earth and helped unleash them against the Autobots, but the scheme turned sour when the heroic robots discovered that intense cold could defeat the little metal-munchers. Hellbat's final plot was his grandest: he actually succeeded in locating the lost continent of [[Atlantis]] and its massive supply of energy, and took the information straight to Deathsaurus. This proved to be the last straw for Leozack, who gave Hellbat a ferocious beating, until Hellbat revealed what he had told Deathsaurus: raise the continent and use its energy to recharge Deathsaurus's [[Planet-Destroying Fortress]]. {{storylink|The Terror of the Giant Tidal Waves}} The plan succeeded, and with this Atlantean energy in their clutches, the Breastforce and Deathsaurus departed for space, heading right for the fortress. The Autobots pursued the villains, but were unable to stop them from bringing the fortress back online. {{storylink|The Wrath of the Resurrected Giant Fortress!}} To keep the Autobots busy while the fortress's main cannon charged, Deathsaurus dispatched the Breastforce—combined as Liokaiser—to battle them. In the course of the clash, Victory Leo was able to blast Liokaiser into the fortress's cannon barrel, which drained his energy dry. Hellbat debuted silently, standing behind Gaihawk as he informed Deathsaurus that Leozack had gone off on a solo mission, foolishly believing that he could conquer Earth on his own. {{storylink|Leozack Rumbles Violently!}}

Later, Hellbat and the other Breastforcers combined into Liokaiser to battle Star Saber on [[Energy Planet X]]. When the combiner warrior managed to seize Star Saber, his individual components began arguing over who would get right to destroy the Autobot leader; Hellbat believed he was the one who should be allowed to "switch them off". Star Saber exploited the opening to turn the battle around, and Liokaiser was defeated and escaped. {{storylink|The Star of Friendship, Jean and Star Saber!}} In their next battle with Star Saber, the Breastforce almost had him defeated thanks to the aid of Deathsaurus and Dinoking, but the tables were turned when Star Saber merged with new arrival Victory Leo, to form Victory Saber. {{storylink|The Strongest Partners, the Combination of Victory!}}

At the battle's end, Deathsaurus revealed that the fortress was home to the Decepticon civilians, and that they had been fighting to keep them safe. Struck by this revelation, Star Saber decided that it was time for the Autobots and Decepticons to lay down their arms, and live in peace—the truest victory of all! {{storylink|Heroic! Hellbat was part of [[Banzai-Tron (G1)|Banzai-Tron]]'s squad of Decepticons sent to [[Beta-Nine]] to retrieve some valuable cargo from the crashed ''[[Van De Graaff]]''. Hellbat, Banzai and [[Gaihawk]] had the young [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] cornered, but Hellbat's hypnotism ability drew the impressionable young bot out.
