'''When a small crew of maintenance Autobots comes into possession of the powerful AllSpark, a battle with their long-forgotten enemies sends them crashing toward a strange, distant planet known as... ''Earth.'''''

==Detailed synopsis==
===Part 1===

In deep, deep space, [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] watches some old history videos, prompting [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] to complain about him watching that "junk" when the other members of the crew need assistance. Prime wonders if they were designed for more than repairing [[space bridge]]s. The two 'Bots transform into their vehicle modes and head out into the asteroid field.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_TheAllsparkdiscovered.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Well... at least there's no [[mass-shifting]].]]

Outside, [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]], dangling from a high rock by his wrecking ball (and becoming quite queasy in the process), is freed by [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]], who also ends up taking a tumble. Bumblebee complains about the sheer amount of rocks blocking the space bridge node, and one is shattered unexpectedly by [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]]'s throwing star. Prime gives his troops a speech about teamwork (which Prowl moans at theatrically), but at that point the space bridge lights up, sending rocks and Autobots flying. Fancy footwork by Optimus saves each of his teammates from the debris, and a well-aimed grappling line shuts down the bridge. With his subordinates stunned at their leader's skills, Prime is forced to admit he trained at [[Autobot Academy|Cybertron's military academy]]. Bumblebee's query as to what the hell he's doing on a nowhere maintenance assignment is left unanswered as they notice something glowing in the rubble.

Prime clears away the debris to reveal a large, chest-like object. Ratchet is horrified and immediately demands they throw it back into the space bridge, but an alert from [[Teletran 1]] announces the arrival of a signature consistent with the long-lost [[Decepticon]]s. Ratchet then insists they take the object and just get out of there post-haste.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Decepticonship.jpg|thumb|right|150px|Yes, this ''is'' a scout ship. Way to go, [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Magnanimous]].]]

On board [[Autobot ship (Animated)|their ship]], Ratchet finally reveals what they've found: the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]], the source of all Transformer life that was lost centuries ago. Optimus, worried about the oncoming Decepticon signal, contacts the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]] for help. After taking a bit of snark from [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]], Optimus reveals what they found, which shuts Sentinel up fast. Sentinel then puts the crew through to [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]], who tells Optimus Prime to stay put while they send reinforcements... and not to worry about that Decepticon thing. Optimus, considering this to be a really stupid move, orders the crew to start booking it out of there.

[[Image:Ani_crew.JPG|left|thumb|200px|Scotty, engage!]]

This proves wise, as the signal is indeed a Decepticon ship—a [[Nemesis (Animated)|command ship]], in fact. The identification markings are ones that Optimus and Ratchet recognize, meaning its commander can only be one person: [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]], leader of the Decepticons. On board the Decepticon ship, [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] doubts the AllSpark is aboard the Autobot ship and declares Megatron a fool. [[Lugnut]] denounces Starscream as a traitor, while [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] calls Lugnut an idiot for his blind loyalty and [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] just acts... well, crazy. The Decepticons continue to bicker at each other until Megatron enters, shutting up all of them. The Decepticons chase the Autobot ship, and Starscream volunteers to board them. Megatron quickly shoots that idea down. Just before he leaves, Starscream wishes his commander "luck" with a pat on the back... affixing a bomb to Megatron in the process.

Megatron makes his way to the Autobots' ship and begins to melt his way through its hull. Optimus uses external manipulator arms to grapple with Megatron, until the bomb detonates, sending the ship careening uncontrollably into a space bridge node, which explodes after they go through the gate. Starscream begins to make a speech declaring himself the new Decepticon leader, but the other three have abandoned ship, noting that the fireball from the space bridge explosion is only getting larger. Too late, Starscream realizes the trouble he's in...

An unknown distance away, the Autobot ship reappears above a [[Earth|small blue and green planet]]. Prime checks on his troops, but Megatron has gotten aboard, having survived the explosion, but at the cost of his right arm. Prime uses his grappling line to shut off the gravity, making it more difficult for Megatron to fight. All five Autobots face off against the Decepticon, but he's too strong (though Prowl does manage to cut off Megatron's damaged arm). Prime and Megatron both end up in the storage bay where the AllSpark is... and as the ship enters the atmosphere, Prime is able to blow the hatch and kick the screaming Megatron out of the ship.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Arkatmosphere.jpg|thumb|right|150px|[[Beast Wars, Part 1|Oddly familiar]].]]

On a small farm, a young boy hears a thud and runs to where something has landed in a not-too-distant field. He is shocked to find a robotic head staring lifelessly up at him.

Meanwhile, Prime orders his team into emergency stasis pods to prepare for a crash-landing. He manages to steer the ship away from the city below and gets to a stasis pod just before the ship plunges into [[Lake Erie]].

Fifty years later, Detroit is a city of robots. [[Isaac Sumdac]] is talking to a public school class taking a tour of his facilities, which gets interrupted by Isaac's daughter, [[Sari Sumdac]], and her robot dog, [[Sparkplug (Animated)|Sparkplug]]. As Sari is carted off to her lessons by a [[Tutorbot|robot tutor]], Isaac shows the school kids a nanotech lab, just in time to witness a roach infused with microbots grow out of control and start consuming everything in sight. Isaac tries to keep things calm, but the monster bursts out of the lab...

===Part 2===
[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Firefighters_monster.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Yeah, watering it will surely stop the beast.]]

The monster continues to grow, absorbing just about everything it touches to increase its size and power. In the process, it destroys a lot of the factory. [[Captain Fanzone]], the S.W.A.T team, the fire department, ambulances, and robot drones arrive, but the creature absorbs several of the responding vehicles, too. Fanzone uses a bazooka-type weapon and destroys the beast, despite Sumdac's objection. This protest proves well-founded, as the remnants of the creature start flowing back together again, save for one piece that drops into the nearby lake and works its way down to the Autobots' ship, its nanites seeking the absorbable technology there. It infiltrates via a small breach in the outer hull, but thankfully, the ship's intruder alert systems are functional and awaken the Autobots before any damage is done. Examining the situation, they decide to have Teletran 1 give them Earth forms so they can blend in and help out. Everyone deploys except Ratchet, who remains behind to analyze the sample of invading material.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Autobots.jpg|thumb|right|200px|[[Avengers]], ASSEMBLE!]]

During the fight, Bulkhead and Bumblebee spot Sari trying to wrest her security key from Sparkplug's mouth. Mistaking which is owner and which is pet, they approach her, but Bulkhead's greeting only scares her away. She quickly gets nabbed by the monster, but Bumblebee saves her, earning her trust and friendship. Prowl attempts to take on the bug-slug by himself, against Prime's orders, and gets absorbed. Prime orders Ratchet to join them in battle to save Prowl, but the old veteran insists that finding a "cure" code to neutralize the nanites' programming makes more sense than coming out and getting trashed. A somewhat chastened Prime agrees, and Ratchet soon delivers the goods. However, the new program must be uploaded by direct contact{{m-}}meaning from inside the monster. This means the smallest, fastest one of them has to do it. Bumblebee reluctantly takes on the task. The beast has been using some of Prowl's absorbed intelligence and comm link tech, though, so it knows what they're planning and is now smart enough to fight back. Despite this, Bumblebee succeeds in delivering the code, and the bug dissolves into a dusty shower of deactivated nanites. Prowl is soon uncovered, but he's suffered grave wounds and must be taken back to the Autobots' ship for repairs. Sari pesters Bumblebee to be taken along, and her new friend reluctantly agrees, since there's no time to make her go away quietly.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Sari_followedmehome.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Bumblebee, having a pet is a big responsibility.]]

Once on board, Sari's refusal to stay still and quiet causes 'Bee some embarrassment. He quickly and discreetly ejects her into a ventilation port and joins the others. However, the port opens onto a shaft that takes Sari right to the chamber where the AllSpark is being kept. Curious, she touches it, and it reacts to her, sending its energies into her security card key and reconfiguring it into a key of another sort entirely. Prime finds her almost immediately thereafter, but with no time left to spare away from Prowl, he has to bring her back with him to the repair table. Ratchet's prognosis is bleak, but Sari's AllSpark-charged key abruptly reacts, glowing and tugging her toward Prowl. Bumblebee, seeming to grasp what's happening, helps her onto the table, and as she approaches, her key reshapes itself to fit into a slot on Prowl's chest. She inserts it, and with a burst of energy, the Autobot ninja is whole again. The Autobots then take Sari home and, after a brief misunderstanding, are made heroes and are even invited to a ceremony.

In outer space, Starscream sits aboard the damaged but functional Decepticon ship, babbling that he will find the AllSpark, even though he's been attempting it on his own for the last fifty solar cycles. The ship's computers then detect the traces of AllSpark-like energy in action, and Starscream learns where the Autobots are...

===Part 3===
[[Image:Sariprime.jpg|right|thumb|150px|INSERT WHAT WHERE?!]]

The Autobots are later seen trying to fit in. Bulkhead gets firsthand experience in traffic jams, some birds mistake Prowl for the statue of the [[wikipedia:Hazen S. Pingree|bald guy]] next to him, Bumblebee learns how organics fuel up, and Ratchet can't get a stasis nap without getting a dozen or so parking tickets. Optimus Prime remarks that the Autobots are programmed to respect life, which they always understood to stem from the AllSpark, but as organics are life, they must respect and protect them too. Optimus also expresses curiosity about how little organics are made. Sari's whispered explanation leaves him rather... shocked. The Autobots make a new home base out of a building Sari's dad got out of a merger, an abandoned auto factory that Bumblebee describes as a real fixer-upper{{m-}}a REAL fixer-upper. All of a sudden, they get alerted to a fire. The Autobots proceed to douse the blaze and save its victims, no problem, unaware they are being watched by Starscream.

The next day, during the inauguration ceremony for the Sumdac Fully Automated Rapid Transit System (F.A.R.T.S., for short), Starscream enters Earth's atmosphere and takes on a group of fighter jets. He destroys all but one, which he scans. As the civilians and Autobots watch the aerial display of the Crimson Angels, Isaac Sumdac notices there is an extra jet present that he didn't hire. That one jet then leaves the formation and streaks toward the ceremony platform, where it transforms into Starscream, who fires his null-ray cannons at the Autobots.

After a short fight, which the Autobots lose, Starscream knocks out Bumblebee and takes him, Isaac, the mayor, and Capt. Fanzone hostage in the F.A.R.T.S. train, flying it to the top of a very tall tower. He demands that the Autobots deliver the AllSpark if they want him to release the train car. The Autobots don't trust him, but don't want to risk human lives, so Sari offers a plan, but they ignore her. She continues to tell a sob story until the Autobots listen. The Autobots proceed with her plan, and Prowl and Sari fly up to the transit pod to rescue the hostages while the other Autobots keep Starscream busy. Once Starscream realizes what's happening, he takes a brief beating but recovers quickly. Starscream then throws the train{{m-}}thus keeping his end of the deal{{m-}}with Sari, Prowl, and Bumblebee on top of/in it. Between Bumblebee's agility and Prowl's thrusters, Sari is rescued and the train lands without much damage. The Autobots then challenge Starscream to a friendly game of Keep Away, during which Starscream almost gets the AllSpark, but Bulkhead gets it instead, because he said he got it. A furious Starscream unleashes a devastating, prolonged (as in nearly 12 seconds) null-ray blast on the Autobots, briefly knocking them all senseless.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Prime_SS_Allsparkactivates.jpg|thumb|left|150px|In the old days, [[Stan Bush|The Touch]] would have started playing now.]]

With the Autobots down, Starscream takes the AllSpark from Optimus and blows a couple of blocks of Detroit right off the map. Not ready to give up, Optimus climbs all the way up a building to get it back from Starscream, which Starscream doesn't see coming because he was too busy gloating. After a quick back-and-forth exchange of possessing it, both grab it at the same time. As they struggle, the AllSpark opens and emits a strange energy wave that blasts Starscream away.

The explosion has left Prime dangling precariously, and he takes a tremendous plummet to the pavement. He notes weakly that he now knows what it feels like to be a hero, then dies, but Sari uses her AllSpark key to revive him.<ref>[[The many deaths of Optimus Prime|This is something of an Optimus Prime record]]: Dead after only three episodes, revived a mere 75 seconds later. Way to go.</ref> The Autobots later go about fixing up Detroit, earning the enduring gratitude of the citizenry. Professor Sumdac is also grateful, for the Autobots saved him and Sari, but he fears what will happen if the Autobots&mdash;not to mention the rest of the world{{m-}}were to discover the source of his robotic empire.

Unseen by Sumdac, one of the [[Sensors#Optics|optics]] of his source of technology glows in a darkened room. Megatron still functions...
"Oh, don't be, I like my name."
:—'''Bumblebee''' and '''Sari''' introduce themselves.

"Uh...am I going to be able to ''breathe'' down there?"<br>
"Oh, sure! What's 'breathe'?"
:—'''Sari''' takes a trip underwater with '''Bumblebee'''.

'''Optimus Prime''' ''[to Sari]'': How did you get aboard this ship?<br>
'''Bumblebee''': It followed me home... Can I keep it?<br>
'''Sari''': Hey, I'm not an "it", I'm a "she"!<br>
'''Optimus''' ''[to Bumblebee]'': So, I suppose you have an explanation?<br>
'''Bumblebee''': Actually, I'm narrowing it down to my top five.<br>
:—'''Optimus''' discovers '''Bumblebee'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s new friend.

"It's okay, they're friendly! Well, except for [[Ratchet (Animated)|the red and white one]], he's kinda grumpy! But other than that..."
:—'''Sari''' plays ambassador.

'''Optimus Prime''': But how is it you're able to make these new, smaller organics?<br>
'''Sari''': (Whispers)<br>
'''Optimus''': O_O<br>
:—'''Optimus''' learns that there are some things that you can't unhear.

"Ratchet, think fast!"<br>
"Oh crud."<br>
:{{m-}}'''Optimus Prime''' and '''Ratchet''', as the game of keep-away starts.
==Other notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===
* Megatron's vehicle mode was depicted flying upside-down, or backwards, or possibly both. To be fair, in space, there is no up and down.

* As Starscream tackles Optimus Prime through a building as the Autobot tries to escape with the AllSpark, Optimus' axe is missing from Starscream's left wing. It reappears moments later for Optimus to retrieve it.

===Continuity errors===
* The train Starscream blasts from the tower falls toward the ground very, very slowly.

*In at least one scene, Starscream's Earth-form wing is shown with a spike, in the same manner as his Cybertronian body.

*Sumdac is using Megatron's hand as a chair. However, he seems to be using the right hand, which was blown up by Starscream. (It ''could'' have fallen off the Autobots' ship, as it was still clinging to the hull when last seen, but that seems unlikely.)

===Transformers references===
*The title of the episode itself is a [[Roll out|reference to Transformers lore past]].
*Footage from the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|G1 cartoon]] episodes "[[War Dawn]]" and "[[More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" is used as history tapes detailing the events of the first Great War, millions of years prior. [[Canon|This]] has been confirmed as pure fanwank, and should not be taken as linking Animated to G1, continuity wise.

*The [[Autobot ship (Animated)|Autobot ship]] here bears a distinct resemblance to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]], albeit with a colour scheme more reminiscent of [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]].

*Sari's robotic dog [[Sparkplug (Animated)|Sparkplug]] is likely named after either [[Sparkplug Witwicky]] from G1, the Armada Mini-Con [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Sparkplug]], or both.
[[Image:Spikecarlydanielanimated.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Twenty years later, and they're still overdressed.]]
*Characters resembling [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]], [[Carly]], and [[Daniel Witwicky]] are seen at a hot dog stand, purchasing some sort of futuristic bunless wieners-on-a-stick.

*The ''Animated'' Autobots are [[Infiltration|not the first]] to use a starship parked at the bottom of one of the Great Lakes as their headquarters.

*When Optimus Prime dies, his body fades to grays, just as [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Generation 1 Optimus Prime]] did in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''. His spark chamber opens in much the same manner as well.

*The baby carriage carrying the [[Soviet_Union|baby with the russian hat]] bears some resemblance to [[Wheelie]].

*Teletran 1 (spelled with only one "a" in this universe) dispatches a small satellite very similar to the [[Sky Spy]] satellite used on occasion by the Autobots in the ''Generation 1'' cartoon. The glowing energy "boxes" with which it scans vehicles for the Autobots to transform into are lifted wholesale out of "[[More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]".

*[[Sari Sumdac's key]] bears a strong resemblance to the [[Key to Vector Sigma]].

*At one point, Bulkhead refers to Optimus as "Boss-bot", echoing an epithet used for ''[[Beast Wars (franchise)|Beast Wars]]'' [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] by the [[Fuzor]] [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]].

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* In this episode, [[Tutor Bot]] tries to teach Sari about the [[Wikipedia:Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act|Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act]] (a major economic blunder of the 1930s).
* Bumblebee's voice is slightly different in this episode from how it sounds later, as well as Lugnut's voice, which seems very metallic; though it's posible that Bumber Robinson was still trying to decide on bumblebee's voice and that the producer's felt a "hollow" sounding voice would better suit Bulkhead's large body until they settled for a more natural voice.
* When Prowl gets birdpooped on, he is standing next to a statue of [[wikipedia:Hazen S. Pingree|Hazen S. Pingree]], four-term mayor of Detroit and one-time governor of Michigan. In real life, the statue is located in Detroit's Grand Circus Park.
* A refurbished Michigan Central Station makes an appearance as the site for the dedication of Detroit's rapid transit system. The real-life station (abandoned since the '80s) was featured in the [[Transformers (2007)|2007 live-action movie]].
* When mocking the Autobots, Starscream actually calls Megatron "the great Megatron" without any sarcasm. Apparently, he'll only give a sincere compliment to his leader when he's insulting something else.
* When Optimus comes back to life, he asks, "Is this the [[Well of All Sparks]]?" and Sari answers, "No, it's Detroit." This is an allusion to the movie ''Field of Dreams'' when Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) asks Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) "Is this heaven?" and Ray answers "No, it's Iowa."
* According to responses at a panel at BotCon 2008, the unfortunate acronym for Fully Automated Rapid Transit System was totally unintentional...which makes it that much funnier.
* It is interesting to note how Ratchet is able to use his front windshield as a screen.
Hojoni is clearly a fictionalized version of the famous movie monster Godzilla. Godzilla may actually exist in at least one version of Transformers continuity: in the [[Generation 1 (Marvel comic)|Marvel comic]] the character [[Nicholas]] refers to a [[That big green, fire-snortin' lizard|big green, fire-snortin' lizard]]. Nicholas himself is a version of Nick Fury, a character from the main (non-Transformers) Marvel comics universe, which does in fact feature a [[w:Godzilla|Godzilla]].

The G1 comic and cartoon are very close to each other in the multiverse, with many common features, so it's vaguely possible that Godzilla exists in the the toonverse and that the movie "Hojoni" was inspired by his rampages. Alternatively, perhaps the movie was inspired by real events within the cartoon universe, and Nicholas was actually referring to a comic-continuity version of Hojoni. Or maybe they have nothing to do with each other at all.
'''When a small crew of maintenance Autobots comes into possession of the powerful AllSpark, a battle with their long-forgotten enemies sends them crashing toward a strange, distant planet known as... ''Earth.'''''

:'''German Title:''' "Trasformieren und Abfahrt"

==Detailed synopsis==
===Part 1===

[[Image:Ani_crew.JPG|left|thumb|200px|Warp 3, Mr. prowl.]]

===Part 3===

===Animation and/or technical glitches===
===Continuity errors===

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* In this episode, [[Tutor Bot]] tries to teach Sari about the [[Wikipedia:Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act|Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act]] (a major economic blunder of the 1930s).
* Bumblebee's voice is slightly different in this episode from how it sounds later, as well as Lugnut's voice, which seems very metallic; but this is likely just the actors not having compleatly developed the voice's yet.
'''When a small crew of maintenance Autobots comes into possession of the powerful AllSpark, a battle with their long-forgotten enemies sends them crashing toward a strange, distant planet known as... ''Earth.'''''

==Detailed synopsis==
===Part 1===

[[Image:Ani_crew.JPG|left|thumb|200px|Warp 3, Mr. prowl.]]

===Part 2===

===Part 3===

==Other notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===

===Continuity errors===

===Transformers references===

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* In this episode, [[Tutor Bot]] tries to teach Sari about the [[Wikipedia:Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act|Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act]] (a major economic blunder of the 1930s).
* Bumblebee's voice is slightly different in this episode from how it sounds later, as well as Lugnut's voice, which seems very metallic.

==Meta-commentary==

'''Shaoshao Li''' (李 蛸燒'', Lǐ Shāo-Shāo'') is an athletic Chinese kung-fu girl who hates bugs and ghosts and enjoys hot steamed buns. She is completely obsessed with [[Marissa Faireborn]].

As a Kiss Player, she is partnered with [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rodimus]], but doesn't like to kiss him after he's been fishing because of the smell. She also wishes he'd take her fishing with him once in a while. She speaks with a Chinese accent, which makes sense since her parents are from [[China]]. ===Kiss Players===
:''Voice actress:'' [[Yui Kano]]

Shaoshao's parents ran a Chinese restaurant in New York. It was there that she met [[Marissa Faireborn]] and the two became good friends. Later, apparently deeply jealous and resentful of Marissa's romantic attachment to [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], she joined the anti-Transformers [[Earth Defense Command]] in Japan. Seen as a rising star in the organization, she was not pleased when she was assigned to the Kiss Player team and partnered with the [[Autrooper]] designated "Ne-04" (the 4th unit of [[Ne squad]]) under the command of [[Amaou]].

Shao quickly became known as one of the E.D.C.'s most skilled Kiss Players, able to power up her Autrooper partner to levels far beyond those of her teammates. The other squad members respected her abilities greatly, and at least one, [[Ringo]], may have developed a crush on her.

On one mission, Shao was sent to investigate a Transformers-related subway explosion. Following the incident, while still merged with her Autrooper partner, she happened upon a [[Legion]] member menacing a frightened young woman. She was able to briefly repel the attack before her Kiss Player time limit was reached and she was ejected from the Autrooper, unconscious and naked apart from her signature padlocked collar.

Badly damaged by the Legion's tube-shaped projectile tongue, the Autrooper turned to the young woman, [[Atari Hitotonari]], and demanded that she kiss it or die, guilt-tripping her with the possibility of what would happen if she failed to act. Atari did indeed kiss the Autrooper, merging with it and swiftly beheading the Legion. The E.D.C. determined that Atari was an even more powerful Kiss Player than Shaoshao and promptly recruited her.

[[Image:LiShaoShao2.jpg|left|250px|thumb|I thought I told you to STOP!]]

Shao apparently remained with the E.D.C. long enough to meet the new recruit and make a lasting impression on her. At some point soon thereafter, however, she suddenly awoke to find herself suspended in a tube in the basement of E.D.C. headquarters. She was bound with straps, naked apart from her collar and squad armband, and her stomach had been scrawled with "Ne-04" and the number "2045", which had also been written on the severed Legion head that hung over her head. Noticing that nearby tubes held similar heads and the partially-eaten bodies of Kiss Players from other squads, she panicked as the Legion head above her woke up and began to drool with hunger.

Suddenly, [[Hot Rod]] came crashing through the roof like a comet, just in the time to rescue her! In their escape, all that Shao was able to find to wear was a China dress. Fortunately, Hot Rod later stole Marissa's underwear for her during a battle with Optimus Prime.

Hot Rod and Shaoshao roamed Japan as fugitives. Together, they battled Legion, the E.D.C. and Optimus Prime, while taking time out for fishing and martial arts practice. Although she despaired of Hot Rod's lack of discipline and his obsession with [[kiss|kissing]] her, Shao privately admitted to greatly enjoying the sensation induced by kissing her robot partner. However, she maintained that she was only using his power until she could get Marissa back from Prime.

[[Image:XiaoMaid.jpg|right|thumb|SOMEBODY'S under arrest, meow.]]In the wake of the final battle, Shao-Shao, Atari and Marissa formed a singing idol group called "Kiss Players" with the cassette Transformers [[Glit]], [[Sundor]] and [[Rosanna]]. As they performed at the [[Fortress Maximus|Brave Maximus]] Fortress stop of their world tour, the [[Sparkbot]]s [[Stardust]], [[Angela]] and [[Zangetsu]] appeared and instructed the three humans to kiss them. Complying, they were teleported to [[Sherman Dam]] in the year 1985, just in time to witness a historic battle.

The Kiss Players continued to bounce through time and space, extracting fragments of the [[Allspark]] from famous Autobot leaders along the way. '''Japan''' is one of [[Earth]]'s nation-states. Despite being wealthy and populous, it does not qualify as one of the planet's superpowers, in large part because its Constitution has severely curtailed the scope of its military since its defeat by the [[United States of America]] in [[World War II]]. Its capitol is [[Tokyo]]. In some continuities it is a member state of the [[Earth Defense Command]]. This may greatly increase Japan's geopolitical clout, but it's hard to tell because the fiction is consistently very vague about how the EDC works.

It is famous for its [[Nightbird|ninjas]] and [[Hojoni|big, green, fire-snortin' lizards]].

==Generation 1==
===American cartoon continuity===
====Generation 1 cartoon====
In 1985, Japanese scientist [[Doctor Fujiyama the Famous Scientist|Dr. Fujiyama]] built a female ninja robot [[Scale|approximately]] the size of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] "to benefit mankind". She didn't. {{storylink|Enter the Nightbird}}

Later that year, Japan was menaced by [[Kremzeek]], a Decepticon-created electrical creature who severely damaged the electronics manufacturing industry there. {{storylink|Kremzeek}}

Some time in 2006 (2010 in the Japanese continuity), the Decepticons mounted a series of nonsensical attacks on Japan. [[Predaking]] and [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] attacked [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] in the Sea of Japan, upsetting local fishermen, while [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] attempted to ram a bullet train, and [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] fought [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] outside a dojo. Despite the able Autobot defense, the extensive damaged caused the furious Japanese Prime Minister to turn into a racial stereotype.

After questioning his fitness for leadership (and managing to lose the [[Autobot Matrix of Leadership]] in a surprise attack), [[Rodimus Prime]] learns from the dojo sensei the lesson that he who deserts his obligations is already defeated. Later, a Matrix-mutated Scourge attacked a major Japanese city. Giant robots just can't stay away from the place. {{Storylink|The Burden Hardest to Bear}}

====Universe: The Wreckers====

Some time around 2020 ([[Daniel Witwicky]] seems to be a graduate student on break from University), Japan is menaced by an entire ''battalion'' of female ninja robots approximately the size of Optimus Prime. This time Dr. Fujiyama doesn't even bother '''trying''' to explain why he had them built. Japan is saved when Daniel heroically detonates a high-powered suicide bomb, obliterating the entire group of robots. {{Storylink|Departure}}

Fun fact: this story was published in 2001.

===Japanese cartoon continuity===
====Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformer manga====

Some time between 1986 and 2002, the [[Autobot]]s [[Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformer (manga)|came from America]] to Japan on a longer-term basis, where they befriended an Elementary School boy named [[Kenji]]. Kenji was helpful enough to alert the Autobots about several of the numerous [[Decepticon]] attacks on Tokyo around this time, as Japan apparently became the focus of [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s raids.

====Binaltech====

When [[Swindle]] released the [[Cosmic Rust]] against the Autobots in 2003, Japanese automobile companies enthusiastically participated in the EDC's plan to produce [[human]]-manufactured bodies to replace the deteriorating ones of the Autobots who were infected.

====Kiss Players====

When Galvatron was ejected from [[Unicron]] in 2005, he impacted Earth, specifically Tokyo. The EDC's mission became ejecting all Transformers from Earth. Tokyo was quickly rebuilt, and in 2006 had a force of 48 [[Autrooper]]s to defend it. Unbeknownst to the population at large, the EDC is [[Shaoshao Li|''feeding children to Galvatron's spawn'']].

====The Headmasters====

In 2011, the [[Trainbot]]s were created and lived in Japan, disguised as different models of locomotive indigenous to the country.

====Super God Masterforce====

Japanese citizen [[Ginrai]] left his home in Nagano in his densely-populated homeland to become a trucker on the open highways of America. Meanwhile, the [[Pretender]] [[Hawk]] lived in Japan, where he was friends with Dr. Gō and his young son [[Shūta Gō]]. With the rise of a Decepticon cult made up mostly of Pretenders and humans, Ginrai found himself caught up with the Autobots and returned to Japan to stop the cult's attacks. The three children who work for the Autobots also attended a school there.

====Victory====

A year after the Godmaster conflict (whenever ''that'' was), [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]] enrolls his adopted human son [[Jean Minakaze]] in a school in Japan.
==Meta-commentary==

'''Captain Carmen Fanzone''' is the apparent head of the [[Detroit]] police department. He hates machines, but in an "I'm old" sort of way rather than being evil or anything. However, despite his oft-repeated mantra of "''This'' is why I hate machines/robots" whenever some device in his vicinity goes on the fritz (often with comedic, embarrassing results), he's pragmatic enough to make use of technology when needed. For example, he's a world champion at yelling at subordinates through megaphones for added effect. And firing heavy weaponry at [[Dinobot (Animated)|rampaging robot]]s.

Despite his endless battle with the march of progress and general poor luck, Fanzone is a good cop, dedicated to protecting the people of his city. He's also not a bad guy to have in a brawl. He doesn't ''completely'' trust the [[Autobot]]s, but he's at least assured that they mean well and, like him, are here to protect and serve the city.

Along with machines, he also hates lawyers and kids.

It was the beginning of a bad day when Captain Fanzone got a call for all units to respond to [[Sumdac Systems]] down by Lake Erie. (It was in the middle of his lunch break.) Taking command of the assembled emergency units, Fanzone quickly realized that they were in over their heads fighting a rampaging cybernetic bug-slug, and he ordered all humans to fall back and allow the drones to deal with the creature. When he noticed four cars refusing to fall back, he demanded to know who they were...at which point he realized [[Prowl (Animated)|a cop bike]] had no driver, and his own car was among the group. It got even weirder when it turned out they were [[Transformer|alien robot]]s, but [[Sari Sumdac|some little girl]] managed to talk the cops down from shooting at the invaders.

Several days later, Fanzone, the Mayor, [[Isaac Sumdac]], and [[Bumblebee (Animated)|that robot that looks like his car]] were taken hostage by [[Starscream (Animated)|an evil jet]], but were saved by the aforementioned little girl and the cop bike. As the cop bike took him down, Fanzone declared that this is why he hates machines. Thankless primate. {{storylink|Transform and Roll Out!}}

Fanzone was courted by [[Prometheus Black]], who hoped to use the Captain's mistrust of machines in general and Sumdac products in specific to win his company a contract with the Detroit police department. However, once he saw the berserk rage that [[Colossus Rhodes]] displayed when smashing up the parking lot of an arena, he decided he didn't much like Black's biotechnology either. Not long after, he presided over a demonstration of new Sumdac models which proved to still have a few bugs in the system. Sumdac mentioned that these models had much better recognition systems, thus avoiding the unfortunate incident with the Captain's wife. However, sabotage courtesy of the newly minted supervillain Meltdown ensured that the new robots were still far from ready for prime-time. {{storylink|Total Meltdown}}

[[Image:Fanzone.jpg|left|thumb|200px|It's amazing what you can find on [[eBay]] these days...]]
When police responded to the rampage of the [[Dinobot (Animated)|Dinobot]]s, Captain Fanzone arrived and asked how bad it was into his megaphone...to an officer who was standing right next to him. The officer pointed at the rampaging robots, as [[Snarl (Animated)|a mechanical triceratops]] sent a car flying through the air, which hit Fanzone's car, crushing it. Captain Fanzone remained completely unmoved, then grabbed a bazooka from a nearby officer and fired at the triceratops...which promptly ate the projectile. Fanzone again proclaimed his dislike of machines. {{storylink|Blast from the Past}}

After [[Nanosec]]'s defeat by the Autobots, Fanzone took the suddenly elderly supervillain into custody. {{storylink|Nanosec (episode)|Nanosec}}

Captain Fanzone accompanied a number of DPD officers to a military base where the [[Decepticons]] [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] and [[Lugnut]] had been sighted. He was quite miffed to find that the two giant alien robots had apparently vanished into thin air, unaware that the two had adopted [[Earth]] modes and were hiding in plain sight, and with very odd color schemes. {{storylink|Lost and Found (Animated episode)|Lost and Found}}

Captain Fanzone was brought in to lead the investigation regarding Sari Sumdac's disappearance and probable kidnapping. In questioning the Autobots, he was somewhat dubious as to the merits of teaching a little girl "ninja nerve blows." After noticing suspicious behavior from Prowl and Bulkhead, he resolved to follow the two Autobots and pursued them in a (increasingly leaking) submersible. Nature proved almost more hostile to the Captain than technology, ultimately resulting in him getting trapped in quicksand and requiring rescue from the very individuals he was shadowing. Grudgingly going along with them, he uncovered Prometheus Black's plan to genetically alter Sari into a biotechnological shapeshifter. His outrage was brief however as the mad scientist dropped him into a gladiatorial arena and sicced his failed experiments on the Captain and Prowl. Forced to team up to survive, the Autobot earned the Captain's respect and trust as they fought their way out of the research facility. {{storylink|Survival of the Fittest}}

And then that trust was destroyed along with a good portion of Detroit after [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]]'s rampage. When an [[Elite Guard's ship|alien ship]] landed in Detroit, Fanzone told the Autobots to stay away, least something worse happen. When it turned out to be the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]], Fanzone was resigned to the fact that the Autobots would have to deal with them. While the Autobots aboard the alien ship, he refused Sari Sumdac's plea to go to their aid. Once [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] stepped out and told them they were Autobots, Fanzone appeared mildly relieved{{m-}}until [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|a missile carrier]] and [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|a jerk monster truck]] rolled right after Prime, with the later vehicle denting Fanzone's car. Why did it have to be robots? {{storylink|The Elite Guard}}

During a press conference with [[Mayor Edsel]] and the monster truck named Sentinel Prime, Fanzone recieved a phone call from what he believed was a woman reporting on Decepticon activity. Heading to old Detroit, Sentinel Prime condescendingly told the humans to stay away. Later, he was on hand to arrest [[Headmaster (Animated)|Henry Masterson]], only [[Porter C. Powell]], the new CEO of Sumdac Systems, to arrive and point out that Masterson had committed no real crimes, as robots weren't protected by law, not to mention that the incident occured on a boat in international waters between the [[United States]] and [[Canada]]. Reluctantly, Fanzone released Masterson. This is why he hates businessmen. {{storylink|The Return of the Headmaster}}

With the prospect of being recalled to Cybertron, the Autobots had the dilemma of who was going to care for Sari after the mean old businessman put her out on the streets. First on their list of grade-A trustworthy humans was Carmen Fanzone. Granted, the list was short and also included Prometheus Black and Nino Sexton. In an effort by the Autobots to get the two humans to bond, Sari discussed with Fanzone the merits of being able to stay up as late as she likes, as well as her need for a very large allowance.

Captain Fanzone breathed a sigh of relief when the Autobots got to stay. Sari said they could still hang out. {{storylink|Mission Accomplished}}

{{spoiler|Garbage In, Garbage Out}}
The captain was close by when a breakdown in human-robot relations occurred during the Autobots' assistance with a garbage strike. Breaking up the confrontation between a curmudgeonly citizen and the similarly curmudgeonly Ratchet, he advised the veteran Autobot that he needed to work on his people skills. When someone like Fanzone says this, you really ought to worry. {{storylink|Garbage In, Garbage Out}}

==Trivia==
* With his "why can't things be as they were" attitude and dislike for anything new, Fanzone could well be a tongue-in-cheek parody of the most homicidally conservative members of the Transformers [[Fandom|fanbase]]. His surname seems to confirm this{{m-}}heck, it could only be more blatant if his first name was [[Geewun]].
* According to [[Marty Isenberg]], Captain Fanzone was named after Detroit native [[wikipedia:Carmen Fanzone|Carmen Fanzone]], a neighbor of his and a former player for the Chicago Cubs. Due to the relative scarcity of Fanzones in Michigan, the real Fanzone had to sign a waiver before the character could be used.
* Captain Fanzone is so slow to adopt new technology that he has a [[wikipedia:rotary dial|rotary dial]] cell phone...and he even has problems with that.
* His car has been crushed several times, yet it continues to show up to be crushed again.
'''Kup''' is a tough old coot. He's almost as old as rust, in fact, and he was plinking [[Decepticon]]s and [[Ick-Yak]]s with acid bursts from his trusty musket laser long before most of you turbo-revvin' young punks were born. In his day, lasers didn't ''need'' to use light; they did whatever they were told to do. And liked it.

He's probably had a thousand adventures, Kup has, and he'll be glad to relate a story of any one of them at any time to a willing audience. The [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] love Kup's war stories, lapping it up like cheap [[Energon]], and don't seem to mind when he inadvertently leaves a piece out or changes the story between retellings. Old memory chips'll do that to you. Other Autobots can be less patient, and Kup finds this disrespectful and irritating. If there's one thing Kup dislikes, it's when young punks don't respect their elders. If they'd only listen, they might learn something. [[Hot Rod]] is one of the worst offenders in this way, but he's a good lad-bot, and Kup will straighten him out sooner or later, even if it takes a tank of [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticons]].

Occasionally, Kup's vast experience gets in his way. When a situation doesn't remind him of anything, he has trouble figuring out what to do. This doesn't happen very often though.
Though it is not yet established when Kup joined the Earth-bound [[Autobot]]s, he was stationed at [[Autobot City]] during the 2005 invasion by the Decepticons. He was supervising construction efforts undertaken by [[Huffer]] and other workers when this work was interrupted by an impetuous drive-through by [[Hot Rod]]. Kup was determined to straighten out the adventure-seeking youth.

After the Decepticons began their attack, Kup and [[Hot Rod]] were trapped outside of Autobot City's fortress-like defenses. Thanks to an attempted hull breach by the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]]s, Kup and Hot Rod entered a small gap in one of Autobot City's heavy blast doors. In the process, Kup crunched [[Kickback (G1)|Kickback]]'s skull by running over it.

Inside the city, Kup and Hot Rod joined [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] and [[Springer]] in shoving an explosives launcher into place to help defend against the might of [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. With the arrival of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] the next day, the tide of battle was turned and the Decepticons were defeated—but at a terrible price.

Even as the Autobots began to pick up the pieces, they came under assault from a group of powerful, unfamiliar Decepticons and had to escape in their remaining shuttles. Once they were safely away, Kup passed the time during the trip by telling the Dinobots stories of his past (or complete fabrications, it's hard to tell). When the new Decepticons caught up to them again and attacked, Kup and Hot Rod crash-landed on [[Quintessa]], where they narrowly escaped being sentenced to death. He was finally struck dumb by the sight of [[Unicron]] attacking Cybertron, apparently having never experienced anything quite like it before. {{Storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

Following the events of the movie, Kup served as an advisor to the newly minted Rodimus Prime. He taught him about ''giri''. Actually, he didn't really...he sort of stood on the sidelines making wise commentary about the kid's problems while Roddy went through it on his own. We're sure it helped in its own way, though. {{Storylink|The Burden Hardest to Bear}}

Years later, on the planet [[Nebulos]], Kup encountered the Nebulan resistance against the [[Hive (G1)|Hive]]. Using Targetmaster technology stolen from the [[Decepticons]], Kup was partnered with the Nebulan [[Recoil]], who apparently then chewed his ear off about their leader, Optimus Prime. {{Storylink|The Rebirth, Part 3}}
====Generation 1====
{{noteukonly}}

''Several hundred years ago, Kup became afflicted with combat fatigue, a loss of nerves and will brought on by too many millions of years of non-stop fighting. Considering himself a liability to the Autobot cause, Kup went into "retirement", wandering space alone in his starship, waiting for the end eventually to take him. He was shaken out of his misery when he crossed paths with a pair of Tyroxian fighters attempting to destroy a lone spacecraft. Spurred into action, Kup disabled the pursuers and brought the hunted pilot on-board, and was surprised to finding he was a fellow Autobot named Hot Rod. Hot Rod was thrilled to have found aid and eagerly tried to recruit Kup into helping him return to [[Tyroxia]] and save his comrade [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]], but Kup wasn't interested in getting involved any further, and he only agreed to take Hot Rod back to Cybertron. The young punk reprogrammed the ship's navigation computers, though, and landed on Tyroxia to rescue Blurr by himself. Kup was finally shaken out of his funk when he realized that Hot Rod represented everything he used to be, and he single-handedly saved Hot Rod and Blurr from their Tyroxian tormentors. His fighting spirit restored, Kup returned to Cybertron with the two Autobots and joined [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]'s troops alongside his new allies. {{Storylink|Kup's Story!}}''

When Fortress Maximus became disheartened by the never-ending cycle of violence on Cybertron, he made plans to escape the war and set up a new life on the planet [[Nebulos]]. Kup and many of his top warriors chose to follow their leader to this new world aboard the starship ''[[Steelhaven]]''. Tragically, a series of incidents and misunderstandings brought the Autobots and Nebulans to the brink of war within days of their arrival. Kup was all for forcibly teaching the Nebulans some manners, but Fortress Maximus forbade it. In a desperate attempt to show their true intentions, Fort Max, Kup and several others disarmed themselves in front of the Nebulan gates. Furthermore, Fortress Maximus and four of his lieutenants beheaded themselves and agreed to leave their lifeless heads and bodies, as well as their various weapons, in Nebulan custody so that serious peace talks could be conducted. Kup took over command of the Autobot wilderness camp in Fortress Maximus's absence. {{Storylink|Ring of Hate!}}

Matters quickly deteriorated after the arrival of the Decepticons, and two factions of Nebulans joined with both Autobots and Decepticons through bio-mechanical engineering to become Headmasters. Events turned against the Autobots as [[Lord Zarak]], the Nebulan politician binary-bonded to Decepticon leader [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], was able to sway public opinion in favor of the Decepticons, labeling the Autobots as renegades and taking their Headmasters prisoner. Some Nebulans remained loyal to Fortress Maximus's partner, [[Galen]], and traveled to the Autobot camp to forge an alliance. Making use of a new form of bio-mechanical engineering, Kup and the other weaponless Autobots were teamed with Nebulan Targetmasters to replace their lost guns. Kup personally was teamed with Recoil. As the conflict continued, though, both camps of Nebulans began to realize the devastation they were causing to their homeworld, and they decided to quit Nebulos and travel to Earth in search of other Transformers. {{Storylink|Brothers in Armor!!}} The crew of the ''Steelhaven'' soon found themselves linked with the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s Autobots and under the overall command of Optimus Prime. {{Storylink|Club Con!}}

Kup soon took over as Prime's head of security aboard the ''Ark'' and one of his top advisers. As a result, it fell on Kup to tell Optimus he was screwing up and losing the troops' support. Optimus Prime listened to him long and hard...and proceeded to surrender the entire Autobot army to [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]. (Way to go, Kup. Prime would've at least ''pretended'' to consider [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]]'s suggestions.) {{Storylink|Surrender!}}

In an alternate future of 2009, the Autobots were overwhelmed by the forces of evil. Unicron consumed Cybertron utterly, and Earth came under heavy fire from Galvatron and his Decepticon legions. Kup and Blurr were personally executed by Cyclonus and Scourge. {{storylink|Rhythms of Darkness!}}
=====Marvel UK future timelines=====

''In 2003, Kup was given the job of decoying the Decepticons over the plans for Autobot City. Ultra Magnus needed to get the plans to Earth's various governments unimpeded, while also taking steps to ensure the Decepticons would not get in the way of the Autobot efforts to build the city. So, he made an open and showy display of tasking Kup with being the courier that would bring the information to the humans. Sure enough, the Decepticon spy [[Ravage]] overheard those plans and sent the [[Stunticon]]s out to intercept the old Autobot. Despite Hot Rod's good-intentioned efforts to stop them, the Stunticons made off with the fake plans, secure in their knowledge that they now knew the secrets of Autobot City. {{storylink|Ark Duty}} Kup was also present at the grand opening of the city a year later. {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}''

''After the attack on Autobot City in 2006, Kup, Hot Rod and Blurr received a psychic prodding from Unicron, alerting them to Galvatron's travel through the timestream back to 1986. Using Galvatron's own time-jump mechanisms, the Autobot trio followed him back into the past, mass-displacing [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] in the process. Apparently reaching an instinctive conclusion that Galvatron could never be returned to the future by force, Kup and his comrades conspired with the Ultra Magnus of 1986 to trick the Decepticon into returning of his own volition.''

''As Ultra Magnus kept Galvatron busy, the future trio made arrangements to discourage him from staying. When he returned to his base, Galvatron found his henchmen knocked unconscious and his super-weapon rigged to explode. Once it did, he was confronted with a taunting [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] claiming credit, and he was egged into blowing the treacherous Decepticon into smithereens. Believing Starscream's death at this juncture altered history, making his actions in 1986 part of an alternate timeline that wouldn't affect his own future, Galvatron reluctantly gave up his plans, picked up his goons, and returned to the future. Kup and his comrades, having successfully framed Starscream and driven Galvatron away, returned to 2006 themselves soon after. {{storylink|Target: 2006}}''

''After Unicron was defeated in 2006 and Hot Rod rose to become [[Rodimus Prime]], Galvatron went missing. Unable to accept the Decepticon leader was truly dead without seeing the body, Rodimus Prime went searching for him with Kup and Blurr. Unfortunately, his lax attention to Cybertron gave the new Decepticon commander, Shockwave, time to consolidate the army under his control and begin the war anew. Rodimus was forced to return to Cybertron empty-handed, and he only made matters worse when he rashly took out a 10,000-[[shanix]] reward for any bounty hunter who could find Galvatron for him. This led to a freelance peacekeeping agent named [[Death's Head]] traveling back in time to 1987, where he had learned Galvatron had escaped after the battle with Unicron. {{storylink|Wanted - Galvatron Dead or Alive}} Realizing that a trigger-happy mercenary messing with the timestream was just as dangerous as Galvatron could ever be, Rodimus arranged a time-jump to clean up his mess, taking Kup, Blurr and [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] back to 1987 along with him. {{storylink|Burning Sky!}}''

''In the past, the future Autobots once again found the 20th-century Ultra Magnus fighting with Galvatron, as the Decepticon leader attempted to extract vast amounts of energy from a volcano. Mere seconds after locating Galvatron and engaging him in combat, however, Kup and Blurr were knocked off-line when Galvatron hurled Ultra Magnus's beaten body at them. {{storylink|Hunters!}} After regrouping, the Autobots concocted a plan to steal Galvatron's time-jump mechanism and rewire it to propel them all back to their proper place and time. While Kup and the others distracted Galvatron, Wreck-Gar and Rodimus Prime attempted to make the proper modifications. In the end, however, only the Autobots were launched back to the future; Galvatron had modified the device so that the temporal backlash did not affect him, and he stayed in the past. {{storylink|Fire on High!}}''

''In 2008, Kup was on hand to witness a full-scale Decepticon assault at Autobase on Cybertron. He fought alongside Rodimus Prime and the other Autobots and, when Rodimus traveled to the planet of [[Junk]] to deal with Unicron (the cause behind the Decepticon offensive), Kup stepped up to lead the remaining Autobot forces alongside Ultra Magnus until [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] sounded a retreat and the Decepticons fled. {{storylink|The Legacy of Unicron!}} Later that year, Autobot City was attacked by [[Quintesson]]s, and the deactivated Autobots were hung out on the outer walls as a warning for any would-be rescuers. Kup came to Earth with Rodimus Prime and crew to deal with the usurpers, and he led an advance team of Blurr, [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]] and [[Wide Load (G1)|Wide Load]] in searching the complex. They were caught in a heated battle with the Quintessons' shock troopers, but managed to hold their own long enough for Roddy to reach the control center and activate [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] himself. Resistance faltered rather quickly after that. {{storylink|Space Pirates!}}''

''As time passed, the long-term effects of Galvatron's presence in the past became overwhelming. A full-on time storm began brewing at both ends of the timeline, 1989 and 2009. In order to set the universe back on the right course, Rodimus Prime and Kup chose to travel back in time with Blurr, Arcee, Ultra Magnus and [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] to retrieve Galvatron. No, really, for sure this time. Problem was, this time their mass-displacement upon arrival took out 1989's Optimus Prime and several fellow Autobots, leading to more than a little consternation among their 20th-century counterparts. [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]], guided by his neophyte [[Headmaster]] partner, [[Spike Witwicky]], jumped to the conclusion that Optimus was dead and led his Autobots into battle with Rodimus and his group. Kup didn't fare too well at trying to fight [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] hand-to-hand, but soon cooler heads prevailed, and the Autobots joined forces not only with each other, but with a pair of detachments from the 1989 and 2009 Decepticon camps as well.''

''As the various groups tracked down Galvatron, they were shocked to find that not only had he joined forces with Megatron, but that the two of them had laid waste to the Cybertronian teams of the Autobot [[Wrecker]]s and the Decepticon [[Mayhem Attack Squad]]. Kup joined Arcee and Ultra Magnus in trying to gun down Megatron, but was batted aside by the Decepticon's [[fusion cannon]] and lay unconscious, out of the battle for the rest of the conflict. Still, Galvatron was ultimately destroyed in battle with Optimus Prime and consumed wholly by the timestorm, restoring the timestream to a stable place. Kup and the other 2009 Autobots gathered together and prepared to return home to their lives. {{storylink|Time Wars}}''

''It didn't quite work out that way.''

''Back in 2009, the Autobots were horrified to find that Galvatron waited for them on Cybertron. It seemed the restoration of the timeline prevented Galvatron from having ever traveled back in time, and thus he had been present at the Decepticons' side for the last few years, which considerably altered the war effort in their favor. In the new 21st century, Galvatron and the Decepticons virtually controlled Cybertron, and only a few token bands of Autobot resistance remained on their home planet. Kup and the returnees adjusted as best they could, but the odds were hopelessly against them. The resistance on Cybertron ended when Galvatron and his men ransacked a resistance station, killing Blurr and the other Autobots present. Galvatron mutilated the corpses to drive Rodimus Prime into a killing frenzy, hoping to corrupt the [[Matrix]] itself through its host. Indeed, Kup and Arcee began experiencing fire in the depths of their souls before they managed to talk down Rodimus. The Autobots of Cybertron were then forced to flee the world entirely. {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}''

''On their voyage back to Earth and Autobot City, the Autobot shuttlecraft had just entered hyperspace when [[Pincher]] and [[Doubleheader]] alerted Kup to a problem: sabotage. Someone had killed a guard and torn up the engine room, damaging the guidance systems so that the ship would be flying blind when they came out of warp into who-knows-what. Sure enough, the ship materialized too close to Earth, and another bit of sabotage prevented the emergency retros from stopped their descent. It was going to be a heavy hit. What's worse, Kup's efforts to isolate the Decepticon life-signs of their saboteur turned up a nasty truth: No additional life signs were present on the shuttle. The saboteur was an Autobot! {{storylink|The Void! (UK)|The Void!}} After failing to locate Rodimus Prime during the time the sabotage was being committed, Kup had a sinking feeling and set up a ruse to test Prime. When Arcee left to try and enter the sealed retro room through the air vents, Kup told Rodimus she was actually going to sneak through the coolant tanks. Fortunately for their landing, Arcee succeeded just in time. Unfortunately for...well, everything else, Kup was right: Rodimus Prime was the saboteur, possessed by the pure malevolence of Unicron, which had taken up residence inside the Matrix sometime ago. Apparently Galvatron's efforts to corrupt Rodimus back on Cybertron had jarred loose enough evil for Unicron to take hold on Rodimus Prime's consciousness. {{storylink|Edge of Impact}}''

''Battling the power of the Matrix influenced by the Devil himself, the Autobots were sorely outmatched against Rodimus. Despite Arcee's urgings, Kup desperately searched for another option besides lethal force. {{storylink|Shadow of Evil}} In the short term, Kup seemed to be correct: Rodimus managed to fight back Unicron's evil, caging it inside the Matrix long enough for Kup to remove the object from Rodimus's chest, temporarily severing their link. {{storylink|White Fire}} In the long term, however, the threat was far from over. Rodimus would again be consumed by evil in 2010, this time metamorphosing into Unicron reborn for a time, before caging the evil again. Kup and Arcee were present at this second rise of Unicron, but their ultimate fate is unknown. It is telling, however, that Rodimus Prime appears to be beaten, ill, and totally alone by the time of 2356. {{storylink|Aspects of Evil!}}''

====Generation 2====

After the Autobot army splintered throughout the universe, Kup was working alongside Optimus Prime and Hot Rod when [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] summoned them for help. This led into a protracted war with the [[Jhiaxus|Liege Centuro]] and his [[Cybertronian]]s. {{Storylink|War Without End (US)|War Without End}}
During the Cybertronian War's earlier years, a young Kup served alongside [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] under the command of Grimlock. He appeared to be the only one who would speak up against Grimlock. {{storylink|The War Within}} When Optimus Prime and Megatron disappeared in a prototype [[Space Bridge]] accident, Kup followed his unit to the [[Lightning Strike Coalition]] offshoot of the [[Autobot]] faction. {{storylink|The War Within: The Dark Ages}}

Along with [[Arcee]], [[Blaster]], Hot Rod and [[Wheelie]], Kup was part of a resistance group during [[Shockwave]]'s control of Cybertron. Their group managed to find Optimus Prime, but Prime's first sight was the frightening [[Gnaw]], and he had to be restrained. When Hot Rod pulled a weapon on the startled [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]], Kup smacked the turbo-revvin' punk upside his head. [[Primus|God]], what is wrong with that kid? After linking up with the former ''Ark'' crew and having a touching reunion with Ironhide, the Autobots managed to overthrow Shockwave's regime, bringing the planet under Autobot control. {{storylink|War and Peace}}
Kup stopped a feisty Wheelie from annoying [[Teletraan 15]]. When she thanked him, he recognized her, gave her a big old spine-cracking hug, reminisced about the time with the giant [[Ick-Yaks]], realized he actually had ''no idea'' who she was, and drove off.

===IDW comics continuity===
Kup is extremely old. In years past, he'd trained dozens of Autobots, including [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], [[Springer (G1)|Springer]], [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]], [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]], [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], and even [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]].

Shortly after [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing's]] first apocalyptic assault, the besieged Autobots prepared for the big push against their positions by the Decepticons. Kup was in a trench alongside [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]], Huffer, and the injured [[Getaway]], waiting for [[Blaster]]'s morale-boosting broadcast to the Autobot forces, a transmission that never came. {{Storylink|Spotlight: Blaster}}

At some point after Cybertron was abandoned, Kup and [[Outback (G1)|Outback]] crash-landed on a mysterious planet covered with radioactive crystals. Over time, Kup was slowly driven insane from the radiation. He talked to the dead corpse of Outback as though he were still alive (and used his disembodied arm as a club) and believed that [[zombie]]s were attacking him when he shut down for the night. In reality, these zombies were fellow Autobots sent to rescue him, and Kup killed several of them before Springer managed to get a [[Trailbreaker (G1)|specialist]] in to extract the aging Autobot. Unfortunately, due to the damage Kup sustained from the radiation, his incompatibility with modern Transformers tech due to his age and stubborn unwillingness to upgrade, and a near-meltdown of his spark, he was placed on life support upon arriving aboard ''[[Ark-17]]'', and it was unknown if he would ever recover, physically or mentally. {{storylink|Spotlight: Kup}}

Springer eventually reported to Optimus Prime that Kup's physical injuries had been repaired, but the state of his mind was still in question. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}}
: Kup transforms into a Cybertronic pickup truck (though how he is able to carry goods safely with no tailgate is a mystery). The entire front of the vehicle (including the windshield) is made out of die-cast metal. In robot mode, Kup has full shoulder rotation, though the way his elbows are set up means he cannot make full use of their joints. He (somewhat) makes up for it with swivel wrists. His legs feature no articulation whatsoever. Maybe Hot Rod left a piece out. He is armed with a blue laser rifle. Early releases of Kup had metal rear wheels, while later releases replaced them with black plastic.
'''Humans''' (also known as: fleshlings, meatbags, insects, squishies, noisy creatures, "puny flesh creatures", "dumb stubbies", ''Terrans'' or ''Homo sapiens'' as they prefer) are bipedal and usually tiny [[wikipedia:carbon_based_life|organic]] beings found on [[Earth]] and like planets. Though quite fragile, and technologically backwards, they have at times aided the [[Autobot]]s and thwarted the [[Decepticon]]s once the [[Transformer]]s' age-old war spilled onto the humans' primitive homeworld.
{{quote|They're such undependable creatures. Inferior lifeforms.|[[Sunstreaker]] on the humans|"[[Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1]]"}}

==Overview==
===Physiology===
[[Image:Humansize.jpg|left|thumb|Humans come in both Tall and Venti.]]

Humans are suspiciously familiar creatures. Though they are made of soft, organic materials, they share remarkable physical similarities with Transformers as a species. Most Transformers and humans walk upright on two long legs attached to a tall body, with two limbs attached at the shoulders. At the shoulders is the head, just like a Transformer's, which sports two eyes in the center at equal distance from the olfactory sensor array, above a mouth which opens for speaking and for ingesting energy. Aside from energy, they also ingest raw materials that they use in their self repair systems. This would seem to be a sensible system, as these materials can be stored anywhere in their bodies, to be used later when and if necessary. Like Transformers, they are social creatures, who trade and barter wares and develop emotional attachments to peers. Eerily enough, they possess an emotional spectrum nearly identical to that of Transformers as well, ranging from laughter, joy, and satisfaction to depression, anger, and cruelty. It is not uncommon to find Transformers who have even developed [[Robot-fleshling romance|strong spiritual bonds]] with individual creatures. This is disgusting.

Humans are physically composed of several specialized units or systems called organs. The major organs are internalized, but extremely frail. Damage is hard to repair, and as they have yet to develop a method of replicating these organs, replacement usually requires harvesting from compatible humans. Major systems include the [[wikipedia:brain|brain]] (central processing unit), the heart (primary engine core), and the lungs (which allow intake of essential atmospheric oxygen). Humans are able to ingest other organic matter and internally refine it into a fuel they term [[wikipedia:blood|blood]]. Blood is required by every organ in their body and an elaborate transport system is required to transport it throughout. Though blood is in some sense self-replicating, a tremendous loss will result in permanent deactivation.

[[Image:Sariprime.jpg|right|thumb|150px|[[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] learns of human reproduction.]]

A human's organic tissue will begin failing just one quarter into his or her lifespan, and will spend the next three quarters growing ever less efficient until the human's lifeforce can no longer sustain itself. As a result, humans are saddeningly short-lived creatures. (It is not known how they find the time to accomplish anything, though as a side effect it has made their wars mercifully short.) Interestingly, humans do not build new members of their race. To the contrary, humans are what they have deemed "[[wikipedia:sexual_dimorphism|sexually dimorphic]]," categorized into [[wikipedia:sex|sexes]], wherein members of one subvariant of their species, classified as male, implants structural data, which they call "DNA", in the other classified as female. This process grows a new human (or occasionally more than one, although this is rare) inside the female like a [[wikipedia:gestation|parasite]] until it emerges roughly three quarters of an Earth year later. (If it exits the female too early, the new human risks death.) The new human is very fragile and stupid; it will take years to acclimate itself to their society. Even a young human who stayed inside its female for the appropriate length of time is not capable of operating self-sufficiently without extensive training. Despite this limited intelligence and understanding, younger humans are often among the first to form bonds with friendly Transformers.

Initiating the growth of a new human apparently involves much rubbing, and also [[kiss]]ing. Humans are reticent to discussing the practice, and several attempts at accumulating further data were met with what they term as "awkward silence". This is quite confusing, as humans generally give the impression that they supremely enjoy it, and have refused all suggestions that they learn the technology to build their own from spare parts.

===Technology===
Although Earth is rich with natural resources, Human technology is surprisingly primitive. They had only begun to experiment with outer atmosphere travel at the time the [[Great War]] began on Earth, and they have limited communication methods. Although their locomotive devices, called "cars", are suitable for [[Transformation]], they are quite crude, potentially dangerous, and incredibly energy inefficient. Despite this, the type of car is often seen as a status symbol among humans, apparently the larger the car the more status achieved. Some humans claim that those with large cars are "compensating" for some other sort of size deficiency&mdash;unsurprising, considering how tiny humans are compared to the average Transformer.

Human military technology is equally unimpressive. They have yet to develop any form of workable energy weapons, and no shield technology either. Their primary weapons are devices called guns, which shoot small, metallic projectiles called bullets using a crude explosive called gunpowder. These are more than capable of killing other humans, but they are extremely ineffecient when fending off any attacking Decepticons. Their warhead weapons are slightly more efficient, though extremely primitive when compared to Autobot [[photon rifle|photon]] and [[plasma cannon|plasma]] weapons.

===Society===
[[Image:AngryArcher01.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Humans require tokens representative of energy, and are not above humiliating themselves to retrieve them.]]
Like on Cybertron before the war, humans make up the fabric of their local (or global) economies. Some work as repairmen, some are [[oil-drilling platform|drillers in search of lubrication]], others are retrievers of [[Ruby Crystal Mines of Burma|valuable rocks]], and [[Sparkplug Witwicky|a few]] accomplish all of these simultaneously. Instead of trading [[Energon|valuable energy]] directly for goods and services, a small piece of lumbered and processed planetgrowth is exchanged. This planetgrowth represents energy abstractly, and its worth is assumed on good faith.

A number of unsavory humans subvert this established system to illegally or immorally obtain these planetgrowths. Many of these humans were involved in unusual accidents which empowered the individual specimen to levels above ordinary humans, while others are tempted by their relatively high intelligence levels or capacity for selfish acts. Encounters with these subversive humans happen at an alarming rate, whether they be [[Donny Finkleberg|failed entertainers who claim to own all Transformers]], [[Dr. Archeville|mad scientists]], or [[Angry Archer|gifted archers who dress in homage to Earth folklore]]. By sheer numbers, these humans must represent half of the known population.

===Religion===
[[Image:Humansmall.jpg|right|thumb|The humans of Earth wear [[hardhat]]s regardless of their profession.]]

Despite their lack of the multi-dimensional transwarp [[Spark]], a great number of humans believe in an analogous concept, the intangible soul. This has been confirmed to be the equivalent of a Transformer's personality program in an odd experiment, when the human [[Spike Witwicky]]'s personality was uploaded to an empty Transformer body cobbled together from spare parts. The human's consciousness was not suitable for digitization, and quickly deteriorated toward psychosis.

Many also believe in supernatural beings, either singular or plural, who have a direct but intangible stake in their lives. Once a week the more religious humans will gather together and sing songs at the ceiling, as the presumed direction of these beings is away from the gravity well of their planet. Unlike the historical [[Covenant of Primus|Covenant]] of [[Primus]], their holy books are not incorruptible encrypted public-key datatracks. Instead, they frequently re-encode the writings of multiple authors in an inefficient and apparently lossy process. Then they fight about which "translation" is correct instead of simply downloading the original encoding algorithm.

[[Image:DancitronGang.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Humans come in a variety of shapes, sizes and ridiculous fashions.]]

Despite having no concrete evidence these beings exist, and despite the records of the [[Beast Wars]] affirming their evolution from [[Protohuman|bipedal primates]], the humans continue to assume these premises are true. This seems like a waste of spent attention, especially with such short lifespans, as no credible sources have substantiated that their alleged creator has ever transformed out of their world into a giant humanoid and fought its eternal enemy before their eyes. While some humans accept that they evolved from bipedal primates, there are others who maintain the divine intervention theory with a zeal that leads one to wonder if they are malfunctioning. Though the two theories are mutually exclusive, many seem to fall in a categorization that somehow accepts both. Many human traditions are puzzling.

===Breeding grounds===
The most familiar breed of humans are native to the planet Earth, though they can be found practically anywhere in the galaxy. For example, [[Nebulos]] is such a place, though some reports claim these humans are of green texture rather than various shades of beige. [[Femax]] is populated by humans of Transformer size. [[Pz-Zazz]] is also home to Transformer-sized humans, but it is not known whether they are indigenous to that world. It is possible that the tiny version of humans found on Earth is the exception, rather than the rule.

==Trivia==
* For reasons unknown, a substantial number of human Transformers [[fandom|fans]] appear to have a very drastic, dismissive position when it comes to the inclusion of representatives of their species in Transformers fiction, some even going as far as demanding that Transformers fiction should be devoid of ''any'' flesh creatures whatsoever, unless being depicted as helpless victims/casualties of Decepticon attacks.

* Humans reproduce by shooting DNA into each other. I find that offensive!

* According to [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], a certain percentage of human physiology is composed of cowardice. This proportion increases directly according to the size of the individual. {{storylink|Pretender to the Throne!}}

One of the human supervillains who menaces [[Detroit]] in the near future, the '''Angry Archer''' bears a strong resemblance to the traditional portrayal of Robin Hood; this includes a cheesy 16th century British accent. The seemingly cybernetic arm (or glove), high-tech arrowheads and glider-pack are new, though. He uses his skills with a bow and arrow in his criminal schemes.

The Angry Archer didst reveal himself from within the shadows of the night. Dropping down on a passing horseless carriage, he bade its occupants stand and deliver. Howe'er, the local enforcers of the law didst vex him with their approach. This worried him not, for a swift rescue carriage was passing. Latching on't, he didst away with glee. But, forsooth, the carriage didst [[Transformation|shift form]] to become [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|a metal giant]], who defeated the Archer with reckless abandon.

Whilst the Angry Archer pled that he desired naught but fame and fortune, flying cameras arrived anon to record his humiliating fate. The metal giant then didst mock him most cruelly, advising the Archer he would have to settle for fame. Oh, what a twisted move by the fickle hand of fate. {{storylink|Home Is Where the Spark Is|Home Is Whither Thine Ember Is}}
[[Image:Wreck-garangryarcher.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Dost thou dare to be stupid, yon rubbish lorry?]]
The Angry Archer was next espied fleeing from constables with his latest ill-gotten finery. His escape was madeth easier when said constables ran into [[Wreck-Gar (Animated)|Wreck-Gar]] and wer't dashed rightly senseless. The Archer convinced the clockwork squire to journey with him and help with future roguish gallantry, and did even give him his new appellation. Alas, yon giant couldst not distinguish a difference 'twixt jewels, tools, and spools, so much of the bounty would ne'er be seen again. In their next sortie to lay low an armored coach, the two highwaymen ran afoul of yet more [[Ratchet (Animated)|celestial]] [[Bumblebee (Animated)|knights]], who convinced the tractable trash-toting titan to turn 'gainst the valiant Archer. The befuddled behemoth didst then try to "catch" his former cohort by hurling him high into yon blue sky. When danger reared its ugly head, the Archer turned his tail and fled. {{storylink|Garbage In, Garbage Out|What Thou Casteth into the Midden, Thou Shalt Receive}}
== Trivia ==
* This character's name and face are a play on Transformers design director [[Aaron Archer]]. The initial designs were conceived by [[Cartoon Network]] without Archer's awareness, and his original name would have been "Aaron the Archer," then "Aaron the Angry Archer."

* Once he learned of the character, the only change Aaron was able to request was to make the Archer left-handed, like Aaron himself.

* His anachronistic robotic left hand was added to point out that even such a historically immersed character would still be taking advantage of future Detroit's advanced technology.

* The Angry Archer's arrowhead arsenal <strike>ancludes</strike> '''i'''ncludes....

* Angry Archer's voice is Jeff Bennett's "[[wikipedia:John_Cleese|John-Cleese]]-ish" voice, which he's used for characters in other cartoons, including Lord Bravery (Legally, it's ''Lord Smoked Meats and Fishes'') from ''[[wikipedia:Freakazoid!|Freakazoid!]]''.

* In her first appearance, [[Professor Princess]] came off as more of a threat than Angry Archer. He appears to be a bit more serious now.
