Jetfire
:Jetfire is a Decepticon and Autobot from the Revenge of the Fallen franchise in the live-action film continuity family.

In his day, Jetfire was a living legend both in the air and on the battlefield. Sadly, his day has long since past. His body went south years back. His bunny is dead on the wheel. He's got rust in places he didn't even know he had. Basically, Jetfire's old! An ancient Decepticon Seeker, Jetfire was around long before the war broke out, and unlike many, came to see his "comrades" for what they were. This caused him to defect to the Autobots, something virtually unheard of. He's a fine asset, powerful and possessing the ability to teleport across great distances. This is slightly offset by the fact he's so old, his processor gave up the ghost millennia ago. These days he has a hard enough time remembering his name. It makes him a bit crotchety and also leaves him with the nagging feeling he's forgotten something important.

{{quote|My father, why, he was a wheel! The first wheel! And do you know what he transformed into? Nothing! But he did so with honor!
In the distant past, the All Spark Cube created a race of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of Cybertron. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the All Spark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

Jetfire was among the very first of these new beings, a "Seeker" with the ability to travel across the vastness of space in search of new suns. Once located, he would lead others and his masters back to it so a harvester could be constructed to drain the energy of these stars, thus replenishing the All Spark. Defiance issue 4 It is assumed that at some point during the civil war on Cybertron, he sided with Megatron, the new protege of Jetfire's only surviving ancient master, The Fallen.

For many years, a dormant Jetfire had hidden in his alternate mode at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, until Seymour Simmons, Sam Witwicky, Mikaela Banes, Leo Spitz and Wheelie broke in with a small fragment of the All Spark. The surge of energy awoke him, and the cantankerous old robot wandered outside, pausing only to bang his head on the door. Confused and disoriented, Jetfire wandered about, going on that he had a mission but could not remember what it was. Only the efforts of the humans and an ex-Decepticon brought his senses back. Jetfire inquired on the state of the civil war, and revealed that he had defected to the Autobots (it's an intensely personal decision). This lead the smaller Wheelie to defect to a human female he dubbed "Warrior Goddess". After turning back to the conversation, an annoyed Jetfire shouted that he had a lot of issues regarding his mother, and that his father was the first wheel, who did not transform but performed his functions with honor and dignity. At which point a parachute stored in him suddenly popped open, bringing him down. Sam then tried to explain what was going on.

When Sam was finished carving Cybertronian symbols on the ground, he mentioned Megatron and The Fallen. Jetfire said that The Fallen had assigned him his mission, but then left him to rust. The symbols were a part of his mission, and he teleported the entire group (including Bumblebee, the twins, and Wheelie) to Egypt. Jetfire then told them the story of the Dynasty of Primes and The Fallen, Cybertron's first contact with Earth, the solar harvester which could destroy a Sun and convert it to energon, and the Matrix of Leadership needed to activate it, hidden on Earth. He revealed that only a Prime could kill The Fallen, but he believed that none were left. Sam told him of Optimus Prime, catching the ancient Seeker's interest, and was distraught to hear of his death. Sam then wondered if the Matrix could restore Optimus to life. Jetfire said it was not its intention, but that the power within was unlike any known. Sadly, this was all Jetfire could do for the group, and he urged them to hurry off and find the Tomb of the Primes.

During the final battle around the Great Pyramid of Giza (which contained the Solar Harvester), Jetfire arrived and attempted to "stick" the landing, which didn't go quite as he planned. He immediately decided to "show how they brought the pain in my day", slicing Mixmaster in half, and crushing his upper torso. He was critically wounded by a surprise attack from Scorponok and although he managed to kill the Decepticon, the injury was fatal. Fortunately, Jetfire was treated to one last wonder, as Sam Witwicky used the Matrix to resurrect Optimus, and Jetfire could hardly believe that he was seeing a living Prime. Unfortunately, The Fallen teleported in and attacked, stealing the Matrix and placing it in the harvester. As he lay dying, Jetfire, who felt that during his entire life he'd never done a thing worth doing, told the resurrected Optimus Prime to take his parts and "discover a power like you've never known". Telling Optimus to fulfill his destiny, Jetfire ripped out his spark core and died.

Jetfire's sacrifice was not in vain: within moments of his death, Ratchet instructed Jolt to begin a full transplant of the afterburners and weapons systems onto Optimus. Now equipped with Jetfire's powerful weapons and engines, Optimus broke through a blockade of debris The Fallen had telekinetically erected around the Pyramid and destroyed the Solar Harvester before it could be used against the Earth's Sun. Prime then faced the Fallen and Megatron, using his afterburners to send Megatron flying through some ruins. During the battle, The Fallen pulled off the left wing and afterburner, using them to strike Prime in the face, but Optimus ultimately triumphed and ripped out the Fallen's spark core, killing the treacherous Prime. After the battle, Optimus quickly detached Jetfire's parts. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

* Jetfire's ancient Cybertronian vehicle mode as seen in IDW Publishing's Defiance #4 bears more than a passing similarity with the starship Axalon from Beast Wars.

* Jetfire is one of the few movie Transformers to mention having a family; in fact, he claims his father was the wheel.

* In the film, Jetfire seemed to say that the reason he was extremely "elderly" was that he has gone for too long without an adequate supply of energon. Well, the fact that he was one of the first Transformers ever to live probably contributes a little; but at least the low energon explains why he is 'slowly falling apart and dying' as opposed to other 'old' bots like Ironhide.

* According to him (and demonstrated as well), he can access a Space Bridge to transport himself and others across vast distances in mere moments. Apparently he's not very good at it though, as he ignores the fact that his teleportation attempt resulted in injury to all involved, and simply showed relief that they'd ended up on the right planet. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

*While the Leader Class toy is advertised as being able to combine with Optimus Prime they do not combine in the movie itself, per se. Jetfire merely kills himself so that Optimus Prime can wear the parts of his corpse as extra armor and weaponry. That's right, he's kibble.
Generation 1 cartoon
The energon cubes could be created by Soundwave More than Meets the Eye, Part 1, who generated the empty cube framework from his similarly-shaped chest; several other Decepticons were able to produce them as well. The Autobots were apparently unaware of them until their reawakening on Earth in 1984, when Hound described them to Prime as simply "some kind of cube". (This is a little perplexing in light of the fact that energon cubes were also shown to have existed by the time of Optimus Prime's creation at the end of Cybertron's Golden Age. War Dawn) By 2005, however, the Autobots had begun to use energon cubes for power as well.

Exactly how an energon cube operates is unclear, especially as their framework appears to be some sort of self-sustaining force field with no internal mechanisms. Most frequently, the empty cube is simply attached to or placed near the energy source from which it is to drain power, and the energy in question is automatically converted into liquid energon that fills the cube. Energon cubes have proven able to transform a vast array of resources into energon, including electricity, magma, oil and steam. Energon seems to have a much higher energy potential than carbon-based fuel sources: 1000 barrels of oil are needed to fill a single energon cube, Thief in the Night and the electrical energy within the synapses of the human brain are insufficient to generate even a few drops. The Ultimate Doom, Part 3

The liquid energon within energon cubes is a glowing pink color, although the cubes could also be compressed for easy storage and transport, causing them to take on an iridescent rainbow effect.
Concentrated energon cubes are a highly valuable form of universally accepted currency among alien cultures. These tiny green non-glowing cubes measure approximately 6 inches (15.2cm) on a side and are easily transportable, as well as being less combustible than normal energon cubes. Guess Who the Mecannibals Are Having for Dinner?
The naturally-occurring energon on prehistoric Earth appeared only in an unstable, highly-explosive raw crystalline form. However, after the Planet Buster baked Earth's surface, the crystals were all either incinerated or somehow "converted" into more stable cubes. These cubes no longer emitted the dangerous radiation which prompted the Beast Warriors to adopt their beast modes in the first place. They were significantly smaller than Transformers from after the Great Upgrade and colored blue.

Blackarachnia threatened to detonate an energon cube near her head if Tarantulas would not remove the mind-link he had with her. The explosion would have killed them both via the link, so Tarantulas did remove it. Tangled Web
There were also "energon cube" accessories available with the fast-food kids meal premiums in European McDonald's restaurants. These cubes were little more than a cheap, battery powered gimmick (the battery couldn't be replaced; the triangle-headed screws used by McDonald's are notoriously impossible to remove) that would make sound or light the toy up. The cubes were interchangeable, but not all of them were "compatible", so to speak—Unicron's light-up feature didn't work on the more opaque plastic of the other toys.

Merchandise
Released along side the Movie Preview protoform figures, Energon now takes on the delicious form of candy! Held inside clear, plastic containers, the "energon" inside is more or less flavorless balls of condensed sugar with articial colors. The cubes are held together by stickers, depicting scenes from Generation 1. The larger cube, made of 8 smaller ones, can be open and folded, in one direction, until it returns to its original position.

Out of the eight cubes, only two have candy in them. Most of the art on the cube is taken from Dreamwave art by Superstar Funana, with the exception of two parts that feature art by Don Figueroa.

Notes
*Thanks to the exalted leader of Carbomya, we know 1000 barrels of oil makes a single energon cube. Thief in the Night This means each cube contains the equivalent power of 42,000 US Gallons of crude oil. If refined into gasoline (with a conservative 30% yield ratio) that much oil would keep Bumblebee's Volkswagen alt-mode (with a rough value of 40MPG) going for approximately half a million miles without needing to refuel! That's enough to circumnavigate the Earth over seventeen times without stopping! No wonder a few cubes of the stuff got ol' Megsy drunk off his rocker!
Pack-in mini comics
When Galvatron was held prisoner in the Cybertronian Autobot base, Overload and Rollout (each one speaking as a separate entity for what ever reason) were charged with guarding the prisoner while Optimus prepared to "roll out". Rollout stated that Overload was ready and willing to blow Galvatron clear across the galaxy if Prime wanted them to shut him up. When Tidal Wave attacked the base about ten seconds later, and fused with Galvatron, even Overload in weapon mode piloted by Rollout (who had neon green where his toy had gold) wasn't enough to even dent Galva-Wave's carrier shield.

Armada cartoon continuity
Rollout is never seen by himself, only appearing as the chest of his bulk, Overload, once. As such, it seems as though he and Overload are meant to be a single character.

*Overload with Rollout (Maxcon, 2003)
**Japanese ID number: MC-14

: Overload is a red and black carrier truck capable of carrying Jetfire in his vehicle mode. His robot mode, in which his Mini-Con, Rollout, acts as his head, is a heavily armed robot with a vague resemblance to Generation 1s Ultra Magnus (thus the Japanese name), such as in the transformation pattern and look of his shoulders. However, according to the designer, it actually has more details from the Action Master Rollout. Overload can be pulled by Rollout in his alt mode or by Optimus Prime's cab, or be attached to Optimus's trailer to form a double trailer. Overload can also transform into a dual spring-loaded missile-firing cannon pack for Optimus Prime's super mode or for Prime's trailer in its "base" mode. Rollout can also transform into a double-barreled gun to be wielded by Optimus & Overload's combined form (or any Transformer with standard fist holes), making him both a Headmaster and a Targetmaster.

: Inserting Rollout into his chest cavity and pushing it into position to form his chest/head will press against a button, activating the Generation 1 transformation sound effect.

: The Japanese version features slightly more intricate paint applications and a silver face on Overload.

: The Overload and Rollout molds were reused for Energon Ultra Magnus, and was retooled by OTFCC for Universe Sentinel Maximus and Hyperlinq with new heads.
*Magna Convoy DX Set (Multi-pack, 2003)
: Overload and Rollout were cast in colored-clear plastics (dubbed "Ultra Magnus Special Clear Version"), and made available only in a Japanese Toys "R" Us exclusive multi-pack, coming with Optimus Prime in his "Final Battle Color Version" (aka Powerlinx colors), Corona Sparkplug, and an X-Dimension redeco of the Street Action Mini-Con Team.
*Special Ultra Magnus (Max-Con, 2003)

: 100 samples of this "sky blue" redeco of Overload and Rollout were given away as prizes in a contest from the Japanese Tele-V Magazine in October 2003.

: For this Costco-exclusive set, Overload (and Rollout) was redecoed into a predominantly yellow scheme with burgundy accents. He came with a new-deco version of Armada Optimus Prime and Sparkplug (who, despite his larger partner's new duds, remained pretty much the same).
