'''While the Autobots fight on two fronts, Spike learns a terrible secret and Hallo plans a final solution.'''

==Synopsis==
Spike Witwicky is under lock and key in the Pentagon due to General Hallo's orders. To his surprise, a note is slipped under the door: "3 O'CLOCK BE READY".

In the [[Northwest Territories]] the Autobots try to warn some hikers about the danger to the human race from the [[cyber-virus]], but the recent attacks by Decepticons have the humans running scared of all Transformers. Wheeljack explains that the blasters he designed will effectively destroy the virus, but that the devices are powered by the Autobots' own internal systems, which means the power depletion will weaken them.

As they start blasting away Jazz gets an emergency call for backup from Trailbreaker. The battle in [[San Francisco]] looks bleak after the loss of Superion. After Devastator stomps on Trailbreaker and smacks Sideswipe and Sunstreaker away he turns his attention to Optimus Prime. The Autobot leader transforms and makes a suicide run, leaps onto Devastator's chest and fires point-blank into the [[Combiner]]'s face. He falls back into the ocean as Prime, wasted by the effort, lifts himself onto shore...only to find Megatron waiting for him.

It's 2:59 and Spike is expecting Hallo to come and kill him. But the person who opens the door to his cell is someone he didn't expect.

Up north, the Autobots are still battling the virus and appear to be winning, but the power drain is making them so weak they have to speak in halting sentences. To make matters worse, an armored division of the [[Canada|Canadian]] military arrives and demands that they stand down.

In the Pentagon, [[Larry]] the janitor helps Spike escape and when the pair are concealed he hands over a file folder labeled "[[Project Lazarus|Lazarus Project]]". He explains that General Hallo and an engineer named [[Adam Rook]] tried to build their own transforming robots five years ago, but when their efforts failed they plotted to control the real Transformers. After the Decepticon defeat, Rook came up with a program to override and control the captured robots. Hallo didn't want to stop with just Decepticons. Larry reveals that Hallo planned and carried out the explosion of the ''[[Ark II]]'' to eliminate the Autobots as well. However, Hallo didn't expect Rook to turn traitor and disappear from the project along with the Decepticons that same day. Upon learning that his [[Sparkplug Witwicky|father]] was murdered, Spike declares Larry a coward, takes his keycard and leaves the janitor to stew in his conscience.

In San Francisco, the Autobots have been rounded up and disabled. Megatron is pointing out to a damaged and exhausted Optimus Prime all the failings of humans and how he pities the Autobots for protecting such a primitive race. Megatron tells Prime to say the word and they can end the war and remake Earth to Megatron's satisfaction.

Back at the Pentagon, the military is monitoring the Transformer battle. Hallo calls for the nuclear option. When his troops question the order he holds them off at gunpoint, enters his launch key and orders that the warhead coordinates be set to San Francisco.

'''Apeface''' is a strong presence in any situation. He's loud, rude, obnoxious, and intimidating to everyone he meets. He dominates those around him with his attitude and fearsome countenance. There's some debate among his fellow Decepticons about how much of his behavior is an act, a gruesomely effective psychological tactic to control others and force them to fold under his demands. Others just think he was built that way. Whatever's going on inside Apeface's cerebral-circuitry, he's not saying. The only one he really gets along with is [[Snapdragon]].
Apeface appeared to be the leader of the "animals" under [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]]'s command. Or at least their spokesperson. Not that it matters, since when Apeface balked at a command to rip off his own head, Cyclonus <strike>pimp-slapped</strike> shot him and said "You will do as I say, or you will die!" Not way up there in the Decepticon hierarchy, Apeface is.
Apeface and Snapdragon were loyal followers of Scorponok on the planet [[Master (planet)|Master]]. Before the Headmasters of Evil abandoned Master to join the Decepticons, the duo were captured and banished into the depths of space by [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] and his allies for their crimes. Sometime later, they were found and contacted by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], who brought them into the Decepticon ranks. Apeface and Snapdragon accompanied "[[Sixshot|Galvatron]]" to [[Shangri-La Island]] for the peace talks with [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]]. Fighting broke out after the Autobots traveling with Spike learned Galvatron was a fake, and the Decepticons were planning to attack other energy storages in the universe. Despite his fierce chest-pounding, Apeface was defeated by the Autobot Headmasters. {{storylink|Daniel Faces His Biggest Crisis Ever!!}}

Apeface and Snapdragon joined Galvatron on his trek throughout the universe for more energy, and quickly became his favorite warriors. When they invaded the hive world of [[Susei]], Galvatron took Sixshot and the Horrorcons with him, and just told the other Headmasters to keep a light on for them. {{storylink|Fight to the Death on Planet Hive!!}} They were also active on the [[Twin Star]] planets, searching in vain for more energy on [[Sperity]] when the Autobot Headmasters arrived. Apeface managed to get in a little brawling, though, so the trip wasn't a total waste. {{storylink|Battle for Defense of the False Planet}} On [[Darhos]], Apeface and Snapdragon were Galvatron's guests as he met with the corrupt governor, and later joined Sixshot in a fight with the Headmasters. They were doing okay until [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and friends pulled out a 50 foot gun. It...didn't go well after that. {{storylink|Find MegaZarak's Weak Spot!!}} On the [[Pirate Planet]], the Horrorcons helped the [[Clone]]s recover the skull key from [[Fastlane]] and [[Cloudraker]]. Apeface was also involved in Galvatron's efforts to use the key and raid the pirates' pyramid. {{storylink|Mystery of the Space Pirate Ship}}

As the Decepticons returned to Earth, Apeface and Snapdragon began working for Sixshot on Earth. They were assembled alongside the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcon]]s and [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticon]]s to attack an Autobot energy facility in [[Miami]]. The duo fought the [[Monsterbot]] named [[Doublecross]], although he was almost too busy arguing with himself to notice. They later traveled to Autobot City and picked a fight with [[Raiden]], preventing him from entering the battle between Sixshot and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] that led to the Autobot City Commander's death. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus Dies!!}} Sixshot continued to employ Apeface and Snapdragon's services on Earth, as the Decepticons unleashed five simultaneous attacks on Autobot outposts on the planet. {{storylink|The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg}}

As Scorponok abandoned Earth in favor of conquering [[Master (planet)|Master]], Apeface was one of his many troops seen attacking the planet's fortifications. After the Autobots arrived on Master, Apeface and Snapdragon were triple-teamed by the new [[Targetmaster]]s. Perhaps not considering the Horrorcons worthy of exerting their new powers, [[Pointblank]] and the Targetmasters spent the whole battle unarmed and in vehicle mode, and still royally smacked the chips out of the two Decepticons. {{storylink|Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 2)}} When the Decepticons kidnapped [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]], the Horrorcons stood guard outside the [[Scorponok (G1)|MegaZarak]] base. In vehicle mode, Chromedome and Danny zoomed right past them and up the ramp into the headquarters. Considering the rescue mission continued unmolested from then on, apparently Apeface and Snapdragon decided it was just a sudden wind that knocked them on their skidplates. {{storylink|The Master Sword Is in Danger!!}} Later, while Scorponok was finishing the final touches on his [[Zarak Shield]], Apeface and Snapdragon went with Sixshot on a diversionary patrol to keep the Autobots busy. {{storylink|The Zarak Shield Turns the Tide}} They also battled the Autobots on the asteroid [[Pallas]] while MegaZarak was undergoing repairs. {{storylink|Duel on the Asteroid}}

Apeface and Snapdragon returned to Earth with Scorponok for his final scheme to annihilate the planet using towers made of [[crysmag metal]]. As the Decepticons finished preparations for their fourth tower in Egypt, Apeface received a communication from Soundblaster, who had spotted the Battleship Maximus approaching them from the Alps. Weirdwolf's trio was the first to intercept the battleship and engage the enemy, but Apeface and Snapdragon were quick to follow. Unfortunately, [[Weirdwolf]] was leading his men in a rather bizarre and unstable totem pole maneuver, which only got worse after the Horrorcons hopped on top of [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]]. At that point, Fortress simply hit the gas, causing the "tower of power" to topple over the side. Apeface was also present at the final battle between the Autobots and Decepticons at the North Pole. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)}}
On Cybertron, Apeface was among Scorponok's crew of Decepticons. When their Autobot foes left for the planet Nebulos, the Decepticons followed. {{storylink|Broken Glass!}}

Not long after their arrival, Apeface and his pal Snapdragon were having fun terrorizing the natives in the city of [[Splendora]], until they were easily dispatched by two Autobot Headmasters. Though Scorponok berated the two for their failure, this latest defeat proved enough for him to reconsider the merits of the Headmaster process. Soon, Apeface was one of six Decepticons who underwent binary-bonding with the organic Nebulans to become a Headmaster. {{storylink|Love and Steel!}}

He and the others continued to terrorize Nebulos until the Decepticons left for Earth, pursuing Fortress Maximus's Autobots yet again. {{storylink|Brothers in Armor!!}}

[[Image:Apeface smackdown.jpg|left|200px|thumb|He'll beat you with the oily end.]]
During the battle between Scorponok and [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]]'s crews, Apeface learned a valuable truth about himself: while he isn't ''quite'' willing to rip off his own arm and beat someone to death with it, he's also not one to ignore an opportunity when it presents itself. [[Rampage (G1)|Rampage]] learned that the hard way. {{storylink|Cold War!}}

Apeface was quite amused by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s surrender to Scorponok on Earth, considering it a regular comedy show. Until Kup punched him in the face. That shut him up. {{storylink|Surrender!}}

Apeface was teleported to Cybertron along with countless other Transformers, where he somehow found a tasty banana to keep himself occupied while [[Emirate Xaaron|some stupid Autobot]] yammered on about [[Unicron|dark gods]] and [[Primus|creators]] and stuff. {{storylink|The Void! (US)|The Void!}}

Ape Face {{sic}} was one of the last few Decepticons remaining behind on [[Tau-Ursa]] when the Autobots arrived. He was investigating a crashed spaceship when he found a voice recording. Deducing that if the tape spoke it must be important, he resolved to take it to [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]].

At this moment he was attacked by [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] and [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] who were intent on keeping him from escaping with the information. The triple changer loudly declared his intention to smash them (with a mighty cry of "GRUUUNK!"), and after knocking them to the ground similarly announced he was transforming into jet mode. He was too slow however, and Blurr seized his arm, prising the tape from his hand before escaping. This made him mad. {{storylink|The War Against the Destructons, Chapter 1 of 3}}
*'''Apeface with Spasma''' (Headmaster Horrorcon, 1987)
**''Japanese ID number'': '''D-101'''
**''Accessories:'' Gun, shield, Spasma Headmaster partner

:Apeface turns into both a cybertronic jet and a robotic gorilla. Unlike [[Snapdragon]], Apeface's fighter jet mode only looks vaguely like an Earth jet, with his robot limbs hanging off the back of the vehicle in an obvious fashion. His Headmaster partner, Spasma, can ride inside the jet's cockpit. He can mount guns on either side of his vehicle mode, but for some reason only comes with one gun while Snapdragon came with two.

:As Apeface is a triple changer, Spasma similarly has triple functions, forming both the robot mode face and the gorilla mode face. This beast mode has a relatively wide range of articulation for a ''Generation 1'' beast, but has some minor problems with balance, which limits poses. Apeface's gorilla mode can be placed on all fours, but that results in his head staring at the ground.

:In robot mode, like all Headmaster toys, Apeface has a flip-down panel on his chest which covers a spring-loaded mini-[[Tech Spec|Tech-Spec]]-meter which gives readouts for Speed, Strength and Intelligence. The tumblers are activated when Spasma (or any other Headmaster unit) is plugged into his neck socket. Apeface is very back-heavy due to most of the fighter jet mode ending up on his back. The jet's vertical stabilisers detach to form a shield that can be held in Apeface's hands or attached to his shoulder.

{{-}}
==Trivia==
* In the Japanese ''[[The Headmasters (cartoon)|Headmasters]]'' series, Spasma does not exist as a separate entity from Apeface; like all Headmasters, the large robot is just a lifeless [[Transtector]] body controlled entirely by the head unit. However, Apeface's head unit is ''still'' called "Spasma" when separated from the larger robot body, even though it's the same guy!
*Apeface was the only character to use the word "puke" in the entirety of the original ''Transformers'' cartoon. That's got to be some kind of feat, right?
*In the Latin dub, he calls himself "El gorila invencible" (the invincible gorilla).
'''Following the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s destruction, the new Dinobots are unleashed! But what ancient horror is behind Grimlock's miraculous transformation?'''

==Synopsis==
The [[Decepticon]]s, led by [[Megatron (SG)|Megatron]], and the [[Autobot]]s, led by [[Optimus Prime (SG)|Optimus Prime]], are battling for control of the [[Arch-Ayr]] fuel dump. [[Soundwave (SG)|Soundwave]] arrives with the [[Mayhem Suppression Squad]], forcing the Autobots to withdraw. A thunderous clatter heralds the coming of [[Grimlock (SG)|Grimlock]] and the [[Dinobot (SG)|Dinobots]], controlled by [[Wheeljack (SG)|Wheeljack]]. The mad scientist vows revenge on Optimus Prime. Optimus, however, convinces Wheeljack to use his [[ember]]less monsters against the Decepticons. But when ordered to attack, the Dinobots turn on each other and scatter.

Back at the Autobot base, Optimus vents his anger at [[Blurr (SG)|Blurr]] and [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]]. He orders all available Autobots to bring back the Dinobots for reprograming. Meanwhile, Megatron comes to the same conclusion, sending some top Decepticons after the beasts.

Some time later, [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] and [[Sideswipe (SG)|Sideswipe]] locate [[Slugfest (SG)|Slugfest]]. But the hulking [[Goryu (SG)|Goryu]] comes to the small Dinobot's aid.

Elsewhere, [[Jazz (SG)|Jazz]], [[Goldbug (SG)|Goldbug]], [[Rodimus (SG)|Rodimus]], and [[Blurr (SG)|Blurr]] debate who will climb a tower to retrieve [[Swoop (SG)|Swoop]].

Cliffjumper and Sideswipe finally defeat the two Dinobots and go after an Autobot passing on the horizon. When cornered, [[Huffer (SG)|Huffer]] admits that he's running from Grimlock.

The group of Autobots bring down Swoop, then Blurr and Rodimus respond to a call from Huffer about Grimlock's location.

Cliffjumper and Sideswipe track Grimlock to an old bunker. Sideswipe shows hesitation. This is the place where Optimus had Sideswipe attacked for insubordination after the Optimus killed Sideswipe's commander [[Drench (SG)|Drench]]. That conflict also led to Sideswipe's own comrade [[Cliffjumper (SG)|Cliffjumper's]] death. The current Cliffjumper dismisses those concerns and the two descend deep into the tomb-like bunker. While examining funerary hieroglyphics, a booming voice calls, "GET OUT." But the way out is obscured; the tunnels have changed. Continuing on their journey, Cliffjumper injures his leg in a trap.

Rodimus and Blurr arrive at the bunker. Along the way down, they also run into a booby trap. On the other side, they meet up with Cliffjumper and Sideswipe. Cliffjumper and Rodimus inadvertently tumble into a hidden passage, activating yet another hazard.

At that same moment, Blurr and Sideswipe are harassed by [[Mutant (SG)|mutants]].

Rodimus deactivates the crushing trap, and the two fall through the floor. Rodimus realizes that this place is where the Omega Terminus is hiding. He plans to use it to create his own army. On their way, they locate a vial of healing [[scraplet|scraplets]] who eat dead metal.

The mutants cease their pursuit when Blurr and Sideswipe reach the [[Omega Terminus]] chamber. The four meet up again, crossing a narrow bridge over a deep chasm. On the other side, they find Grimlock, who explains in his rudimentary way that a voice guided him to his chamber. A light shoots out of the Omega Terminus, striking Grimlock. The lumbering beast transforms into a robot, suddenly eloquent. To the surprise of the others, he's been granted an ember and a robot mode, along with a great deal of intelligence.

Grimlock proclaims that the Omega Terminus doesn't want the others here. Cliffjumper challenges him, but the Omega Terminus responds. Four corpses are animated, among them, the native Cliffjumper and Drench. Grimlock divulges that the mutants bring the deactivated robots back here so that the Omega Terminus can use them for new life. A battle ensues. The zombies are dispatched with the scraplets and Grimlock falls over the edge into the chasm. The formless voice again instructs them to leave, and the four are only too pleased to obey.

For his failure, Rodimus is sent to [[Ratchet (SG)|Ratchet]] for an upgrade: a new buzzsaw-hand. Blurr reports to Optimus that the Autobots have gathered eight Dinobots. Unannounced, Grimlock enters the room. He offers his services to Optimus while also asserting his independence. This enrages Prime, but Grimlock's intellect impresses the Autobot leader.

Later, Grimlock breaks into the Decepticon corral, promising the Decepticon-captured "Dinocons" a trip to the Omega Terminus...

==Notes==
* Something may be going on with Side Burn. Though he speaks like a mirrorverse Side Burn would (gently ranting against "undue attention to females"), there are other indicators that he's not exactly what he seems. He hasn't been with the Autobots long. He's one of the few characters, along with Crasher and Demolishor, who isn't based on someone from G1. Blurr remarks that Side Burn doesn't belong, implying there's something off about him. He may very well be the ''[[Robots in Disguise (franchise)|Robots In Disguise]]'' [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]]: at the [[:Image:Optimusprimaluniverseend.jpg|end of the Universe conflict]] he was last seen being tossed into a [[transwarp]] portal by [[Omega Prime]] (who, in turn, was sent not to his own home timeline but to a [[Unicron Trilogy]] universe).

* In the original [[Shattered Glass (issue)|Shattered Glass comic]], the Decepticons had never heard of [[Primus]] until Cliffjumper told them about Him. They are shocked to hear the idea that they are the work of a benevolent Creator. By the time of "Dungeons & Dinobots," word of Cliffjumper's "beliefs" has apparently made rounds. The Autobots consider Cliffjumper crazy and laughable for being "Mr. 'The Planet is a God.'"
