'''A gang of Predacons plot a heist that will ultimately impact time itself...'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:Cryotektheft.jpg|left|200px|thumb|C'mon, youse mugs.]]
In his secret lair, [[Cryotek (RID)|Cryotek]] waxes over the genius of the plan to steal valuable data revealing the location of the [[Golden Disk (Voyager)|Golden Disk]]... after all, it ''was'' his plan. He dispatches his agents in groups to carry it out, including his star pupil [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], who is under strict orders that only Cryotek is to decode the location data from the files Megatron is to steal.

Later, at a [[Maximal]] power plant, [[Scorponok (BW)|"Scorponok"]] is planting time-bombs, but is interrupted by a security guard. The guard is interrupted by [[Backslash]], who stabs the guard from behind with an energon blade, then admonishes Scorponok's sloppiness.

At the Maximal archives, Megatron, [[Dinobot (BW)|"Dinobot"]] and [[Dirge (BWII)|Dirge]] wait on the rooftops for the reports from the other two teams.

At a [[Predacons (BW)|Predacon]] hangar, [[Terrorsaur (BW)|"Terrorsaur"]], [[Waspinator (BW)|"Waspinator"]] and [[Buzzbomb]] bust in and completely shoot up the joint in order to secure [[Darksyde|a getaway ship]].

Back at the power plant, Backslash finds himself held at gunpoint by a Maximal security officer while setting his own bombs. He's observed from a safe distance by Scorponok, who laughs at his partner's predicament before remote-activating the explosives, killing Backslash and the guard, and shutting off power to a major portion of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].

With power down and the security system for the archives shut off, Megatron and Dinobot make their descent. A security guard, spooked by the creepy statues, is snared by Dinobot and smashed into a wall. The two Predacons make their way to a data storage chamber, and Megatron pulls out a large datacard, placing it in a storage box of its own. With a puff of air, a tracking bug fires from the archive's storage shelf, attaching itself to Megatron. Against Cryotek's orders, the container records and transmits the information to [[Tarantulas|"Tarantulas"]], who cackles with glee as he begins to interpret the data. Dinobot plants his own time bomb in the archive...

Power is re-routed to the city. In the Predacon hangar, Waspinator and Terrorsaur mop up the last of the resistance, including Cryotek's lackey, Buzzbomb.

Megatron and Dinobot make their exit, only to find themselves facing down numerous [[Maximal Command Security Force]] members. Dinobot leaps into the air, throwing the datacard container high into the air, where it is snagged by Dirge, who rockets off at speed. Megatron and Dinobot fight their separate ways through the security forces, Dinobot scraping his way down the building's side before facing off against the MaxCop commander [[9K]]. The two rush at each other...

Dirge returns to Cryotek with the container. Cryotek smiles in anticipation, and when asked about the Maximals, reveals that he was the one who alerted them to the theft. After all, ''someone'' had to take the fall for the heist... and as fond as he was of Megatron, not only was he replaceable, but he knew his pupil would doublecross him sooner or later. Cryotek discovers that "sooner" was sooner than he anticipated, as the storage box is empty, containing only the tracking bug from the archives. As floodlights bathe the chamber in harsh light and MaxCops swarm in, Cryotek screams his pupil's name in rage...

...and elsewhere on the planet, Megatron, Dinobot and Scorponok make their way to the chamber that holds the Golden Disk...

==Other notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===
* When Megatron was under fire by the MaxCops after leaving the archives, when he fired back at them, his shots that hit them impacted with a "digital deletion effect" rather than an explosion-like one.
* Cryotek has an unpainted Decepticon insignia on his left shoulder.

===Continuity errors===
* Scorponok, Terrorsaur and Tarantulas have different bodies than they do in the comic following these events (see below). This is due to the production schedules of the animation and comic resulting in there not being enough time to make completely new models and render new scenes based on the final comic designs; the "non-toy" show-Predacon trio's animation bodies are based on toy-models that had been made well in advance of the actual production.

===Transformers references===
* This animation is an immediate prequel to the events of BotCon 2006's comic story "[[Dawn of Future's Past]]", ending perhaps only seconds before the comic begins.

* Most of the sound effects in this animation are pulled from the original [[The Transformers (cartoon)|Generation 1 cartoon]], notably the metal footfalls, laserblasts and classic [[transformation]] sound. Also, the music that plays over the ending credits is a remix of the ending theme music from the original cartoon.

* A [[Diagnostic Drone]] hovers behind Cryotek in a few shots.

* Behind Cryotek is a screen that displays the [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicon]] symbol. Also shown is the [[Motorcycle Drone]] from two angles.

* There are several "Easter Eggs" inside the archives.
** Statues of [[Antagony]] and [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]]
** A [[Cyber Planet Key]]
** A replica of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]

* The exterior statue Dinobot uses to regain control of his fall is a heavily stylized rendition of [[Icepick]]'s [[Pretender]] shell.
* One of the workers killed by Waspinator and Buzzbomb resembles a non-organic version of Dinobot's first Beast Wars body.
* Another worker resembles a pre-Beast Wars Terrorsaur coloured like Lazorbeak or Hydra

* The bombs Scorponok plants use Autobot energon star models.

===Real-world references===
* The script is heavily influenced by ''[[wikipedia:The_Maltese_Falcon_(1941_film)|The Maltese Falcon]]'', down to Cryotek and Dirge's performances, which were patterned after ''Falcon'' actors [[wikipedia:Sidney_Greenstreet|Sidney Greenstreet]] and [[wikipedia:Peter_Lorre|Peter Lorre]] (respectively).

===Miscellaneous trivia===
* The full version of "Theft" was put up on YouTube (and embedded on the [[Official Transformers Collectors' Club]] main page) on January 8th, 2008.

* The YouTubed version also contains an extra scene not in the BotCon reel; a shot of the ''Darksyde'' in the hangar Terrorsaur, Waspinator and Buzzbomb took over. The ship never actually appeared in the original version. Oops.

* It is awesome.
'''Kickback''' is one of the most charming, likable beings you're ever likely to meet. He collects friends the way others do [[Energon cube|energon cubes]]. Scratch the surface, though, and you find a manipulative blackmailer that loves digging up dirt on his new "pals" to force them to work for him. Humans are particularly likely to fall prey to his honeyed words. In insect mode his super-charged legs allow him to jump great distances and kick through solid steel, though he's vulnerable in that mode when attempting to fly through high winds.
Kickback, [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] and [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] landed on [[Earth]] in their own space pod before the [[Ark (G1)|Autobot ship]] crashed to Earth. Their pod crashed into the region that would become known as "[[Demon Swamp]]" and their [[idento-computer]]s adapted them to transform into insects and eat organic food to survive. The "Insecticons" apparently lived in the swamp for millions of years until discovered by Megatron's Decepticons. They formed an uneasy alliance with Megatron, never coming fully under his command but working with the Decepticons when they could be convinced there was something (usually food) in it for them. The Insecticons were able to create vast clone armies of themselves at will, a formidable ability that may have been the reason they were able to maintain their autonomy from Megatron. {{storylink|A Plague of Insecticons}}

{{storylink|Traitor}}

On one occasion, the Insecticons were chowing down on redwoods in a national forest when [[Hound (G1)|Hound]], [[Beachcomber (G1)|Beachcomber]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] arrived on the scene and attempted to stop them. Despite the equal odds, the Insecticons managed to overpower their Autobot opponents and send them into retreat after launching a massive fallen tree trunk at the heroes (naturally, Kickback used his legs to push the tree instead of his arms like the others). Megatron then arrived and offered a deal: if he led the Insecticons to a fresh new source of energy, they would aid him in acquiring some useful data from the heavily-guarded [[Iron Mountain]] installation. Agreeing, the Insecticons accompanied the Decepticons to the [[Nova Power Core]], an energy source of considerable power. Consuming it, the Insecticons found themselves more than doubling in size and strength.

[[Image:QuestForSurvival Insecticons.jpg|left|200px|thumb|]]
Naturally, both groups of 'Cons planned to eliminate each other at the most opportune opportunity, but the Insecticons got the upper hand first by secretly placing [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] under the control of Bombshell's [[cerebro-shell]]s. Before the mission at Iron Mountain was completed, the rest of the Decepticons sans Megatron were also under Insecticon control. Kickback and the others planned to use Soundwave to acquire Iron Mountain's data for themselves, but little did they know that the Nova Power in their systems was explosively unstable. With the help of the Autobots, Megatron managed to administer the antidote to the Insecticons (reversing their invincibility and self-destruct cycles) and reclaim his soldiers. Because Shrapnel was critically wounded in the final battle, Kickback and Bombshell quickly repaired him and fled to fight another day. {{storylink|The Insecticon Syndrome}}
[[Image:TFTM SquashedKickback.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Well, it was inevitable that he of all people would kick the bucket.]]
When the Decepticons invaded Autobot City on Earth in 2005, a keen-eyed [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] spotted their hijacked shuttle before they were able to penetrate the city's defenses. As a result, the Autobots had time to activate the base's heavily-armored transformation sequence, and the Decepticons are forced to physically breach the defenses. Kickback and his fellow Insecticons attempted to eat their way into the city, but kept their eyes on their stomachs and were caught off guard by the returning Hot Rod and [[Kup (G1)|Kup]]. Kup used Kickback's head as a ramp to jump his way into the closing city, flattening the Insecticon's head in the process.

Heavily damaged, Kickback was carried by Long Haul back aboard [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] by Scavenger as the Decepticons fled. He proved too weak to resist when the 'Cons tossed him and several other weakened warriors out of the shuttle to "make room". His was reformatted by [[Unicron]] into a [[Sweep]] drone, to serve under [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]]. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}
{{earthforcefiction}}
''Kickback and the Insecticons worked under Megatron's command during the Decepticon Civil War. At the [[Enclave]], he was seen talking to [[Long Haul (G1)|Long Haul]] before the fighting broke out. {{storylink|The Bad Guy's Ball!}} Later, he joined his fellow Insecticons in infiltrating [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]]'s base to spy on their activities. They ate their way through the wall next to the war room, and planned to pick a nice, cozy spot for eavesdropping, but [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] caught the little pests in a [[Rustbug Hoop]]. He then fed them false information to lead Megatron and Shockwave into a confrontation with each other, giving him a chance to consolidate control over the Decepticons. {{storylink|Bugged!}} After the coup, Kickback was part of the attack on Autobot Earthbase led by [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]. {{storylink|Divide and Conquer!}}''

Seen in his pre-Earth dragster mode, Kickback and the pre-Insecticons joined [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] in making an assassination attempt on the recently-risen [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], hoping to extract the power of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] from the green Autobot leader. At some point after the disappearance of the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] and ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] managed to track the ships to the planet Earth, and dispatched Kickback, [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]], and [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] to the planet as part of some longterm machinations which were never made clear. {{note|Kickback and the Insecticons made a brief appearance in the second [[Keepers Trilogy]] novel, [[Annihilation]], as troops under Starscream's command on Earth. The Insecticons were supposed to remain in hiding on Earth until an unknown time, and managed to keep their presence on the planet secret even after the Autobot and Decepticon spaceship crews awoke and began regularly battling it out on Earth. However, Bombshell began instituting plans of his own, mutilating cattle, kidnapping fleshlings, and growing techno-organic "Insecticlones", among other things. Kickback noticed a minor power struggle between Shrapnel and Bombshell, and enjoyed stirring things up between his partners. Bombshell's antics drew the attention of the Autobots and [[Earth Defense Command]], and the Insecticons were forced into the spotlight to do battle. Along with many other Decepticons, Kickback awoke in the late 19th century when a sunken human submarine crashed onto their submerged ship. {{storylink|Hearts of Steel issue 1}} After [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] allied himself with [[Tobias Muldoon]], he learned that the humans required money to work, and sent Kickback, Bombshell and Shrapnel to retrieve some. The trio took on the form of an "[[Insectrain]]", with Kickback forming the piledriver-equipped front of the train. Using these piledrivers, the Insecticons attacked and robbed a train carrying cash and bullion from the Denver Mint, although Kickback sneered at the concept of "sheets of inert plant matter" being valuable. The following morning, the Insecticons delivered the stolen property to Starscream and Tobias Muldoon. {{storylink|Hearts of Steel issue 2}}
===Sector Seven alternate reality game===
[[Image:NBE 125.JPG|thumb|right|125px|NBE 125]]
Video footage was taken of a small mechanical grasshopper on a tree branch. The grasshopper then flew towards the camera changing into a robot and proceeded to attack the camera, breaking the lens. It was sightings like this and others that prompted the secret government organization known as [[Sector Seven]] to launch a disinformation campaign called [[Hungry Dragon]]. A key part of this was the [[Takara Agreement]], a collaboration with a Japanese toy manufacturer [[Takara]]. The goal of the agreement was to portray non-biological extraterrestrials as kids' toys, cartoons, and fiction. Any claims of actual sightings of giant robots would be seen as fanciful nonsense.

It was a great success. You don't believe alien robots actually visited the Earth, do you?

The original footage of the grasshopper was eventually leaked to the public through [http://www.sectorseven.org/ the internet]. {{storylink|Sector Seven (game)}}

[[Image:G1Kickback toy.jpg|right|150px|thumb|I'll transform into a giant mechanical grasshopper and no one will notice me.]]
: Kickback transforms into a robotic grasshopper/locust. He doesn't do a whole lot more than that.

: The mold has gone through a few variations, primarily in the chromed-silver wings. Original versions only had a single [[rubsign]] indent, on the outer right-robot-mode wing. Later versions not only added indents to all four faces of the wings (for symmetry, apparently), but ''shortened'' the wings as well.

: In Japan, Kickback and the other Insecticons were "re-released" as mail-order items from 1987 through 1988. They each cost 880 yen (their normal retail price) and two [[robot points]].

: This mold was used to make the [[Shothole]] drones.

: The Kickback in this set has ''another'' change to the wings; this time, the "[[For safety reasons|safety circles]]" at the wing-tips added by [[Hasbro]] back in the day are no longer present, giving them pointed tips. The wings also go back to having a single rubsign indent.
While the normal purple version could come on any Decepticon toy, the rarer red version was available ''only'' on [[Throttlebot]] cards and only for a short while before the switch to purple.
'''The Maximals discover two strange new organic creatures, but what secrets do they hide?'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:SavageNoble Maximals Grand Mal.jpg|left|thumb|200px|I see you.]]
The [[Maximal]]s stare up at the [[Grand Mal|giant floating head]] of [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]. [[Rattrap]] despairs, waiting for the hammer to drop, then is shocked when nothing happens. [[Optimus Primal|Primal]] suspects that, for some reason, Megatron ''can't'' do anything.

[[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]] hauls [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] up for a closer look; both are repelled by an energy field. But Primal again suspects it's purely automated.

Optimus sends the others to find [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] and [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]], while he attempts to contact Megatron's [[Spark]]. Nightscream leads the group to one of his old hangouts, a big generator-filled room with a waterfall. Blast-marks on the walls show that the [[Vehicon general|Vehicon Generals]] were fighting someone or something recently. The [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicon]]s themselves attack just then, with Thrust vowing vengeance for the ambush.

[[Image:SavageNoble Savage approaches.jpg|right|thumb|200px|"Ah, hello! I'm trying to start a book club and I was wondering if you'd... hey, where are you going?"]]
The two teams exchange words, with Blackarachnia still trying to reach [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] within Jetstorm. A fight is about to break out, when an eerie howling distracts the group, and finally convinces the Vehicons that the Maximals didn't attack them. [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] leads the others off in a hasty retreat. The Vehicons follow, as something massive, spiky, scaly, and four-legged lumbers in the shadows behind them. The group pauses a moment later to observe the beast, a dragon-like creature with spike-covered wings, lips, nose, claws, legs, torso, you name it. They retreat as it begins a firebolt-spewing advance.

Elsewhere, Optimus goes on a spiritual hunt. He enters the Spark/astral/whatever plane, calling out to his old foe. He's answered by Megatron's bellowing voice; insubstantial visions of Megatron's head surround him, laughing, mocking, screaming.... and the vision ends. Primal suspects that whatever he just contacted wasn't a sentient mind.

Cheetor, meanwhile, orders the group to stand down, not wanting to destroy the creature before they can figure out what it is. Jetstorm isn't happy about taking orders from Cheets, but the creature easily repels his and Thrust's attacks, knocking them out. A random shot buries the Maximals long enough for the creature to escape.

[[Image:SavageNoble Noble cowers.jpg|left|thumb|200px|"I am not an animal! I am not- oh wait, I guess I am."]]
The Maximals track the creature to higher levels in the generator plant, and there discover a wolf-like creature hiding shyly in the shadows. Nightscream suspects the beast is another survivor, like him. The Maximals offer friendship, and the creature introduces himself as [[Noble]], and recounts (in [[Forbidden Fruit|a very familiar fashion]]) the story of the Vehicon invasion. Noble fell into a pit, and awoke in his current form.

Further pleasantries are interrupted by a strafing attack by Jetstorm and Thrust, hunting for the dragon, Savage. But before the Maximals can even worry about defending their new friend, he disappears while their backs are turned.

Cheetor contacts Optimus, who still hasn't found any trace of Megatron. The group goes hunting for Noble. They find the dragon creature, growling ferociously. Nightscream is convinced the beast has done away with Noble, and leaps to attack; only Blackarachnia's quick thinking keeps him from getting blasted with fire-breath. The group follows as the creature flies off; they can't leave it loose in [[Cybertropolis]].

[[Image:SavageNoble Noble with wings.jpg|right|thumb|200px|"What? What are you staring at? Have I got some dirt on my face?"]]
Primal arrives, and orders the group to split up to cover more ground. Rattrap eventually finds the beast, which has him cornered and petrified. To his relief, it chooses to ignore him. Cheetor hems the beast in by chopping down a bridge, and the others stop it from the other direction. Primal begins to approach the beast, offering understanding and compassion. The Vehicon generals arrive and find the beast surrounded, but the dragon bats them away with a tail-slash, sending them over the horizon. After a long moment of carefully approaching the beast, Nightscream touches Savage and calms him enough for him to transform... into Noble. The two creatures are one, a beast-to-beast [[Transformer]].

Primal vows to help Noble, even as Noble warns that he can't control his other half. Nightscream reassures him, and Noble smiles to himself — just a bit ominously, yesss...
==Notes==
===Continuity errors===
*As the Vehicons rush headlong towards Savage, Thrust and Jetstorm address him by name… almost ''immediately'' after Cheetor declares that "we don't know what this thing is." It seems, however, that Jetstorm and Thrust have come up with the name for the dragon, as a means of taunting it. Noble picks up on this when he names himself, as the diametrically opposed Dr. Jekyll to Savage's Mr. Hyde, an opposition that isn't entirely [[Prometheus Unbound| true]].

===Transformers references===
*When Optimus attempts to make contact with Megatron's spark, he is tormented by numerous heads modelled on Megatron's original and Transmetal designs from [[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]].

===Real-world references===
* The title "Savage Noble" is a play on the "Noble savage" of the eighteenth century cult of primitivism, in which "savages" from the new world countries were seen as innocent and unsullied, and uncorrupted by technology and civilization; they are, essentially, so savage as to convey a greater wisdom and dignity about the natural world. By proxy, a "savage noble," ostensibly what Megatron is (we learn later that they are the same person), would be the opposite oxymoron: a man so civilized he has become a monster. Noble savages were seen as unfettered and carefree, and able to show the essentially good nature of people; by contrast Megatron is trapped both in his zealotry and the physical organic body he abhors, and showcases the worst nature of people.
===Autobot campaign===
{{cleanup|August 2009|This is clearly not up to our standards}}

The Autobot campaign begins with NEST Pilot Sgt. Epps reporting Decepticons in [[Shanghai]], [[China]]. Upon the arrival of the Autobots, Major William Lennox tells them there are Decepticons in the perimeter and must not escape. [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] is sent to fight them. Ironhide then battles and defeats [[Sideways (ROTF)|Sideways]]. When [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] gets word that Ironhide is missing, Ratchet heads out to find him and get him to safety. After locating Ironhide, his power is recharged and another Decepticon battle ensues. After annihilating Decepticon troops, Optimus battles [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]]. Upon his defeat and before Optimus deactivates him, Demolishor states "[[The Fallen]] shall rise again."

The Autobots then head to Burbank, California where a previously unknown fragment of the [[AllSpark (Movie)|All Spark]] has surfaced, now in possession of [[Mikaela Banes]]. [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] is sent to protect Mikaela when the Decepticons detect the fragment also. The Autobots learn that a second All Spark fragment held by the Americans has been stolen. Soundwave learns of [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]'s location, and transmits it to the Decepticons. [[Breakaway (ROTF)|Breakaway]] is sent to defend a carrier fleet guarding Megatron's corpse in the [[Laurentian Abyss]] from the Decepticons. Despite his efforts, Megatron is reactivated.

On the East Coast, [[Sam Witwicky]] is kidnapped by the Decepticon troops and taken to an industrial park near his college. Ratchet manages to locate Sam in an abandoned foundry and sends Bumblebee the coordinates. Bumblebee rescues Sam and gets him to the extraction point, Grindor attacks, but Bumblebee manages to defeat him. To aid their allies against the Decepticons, Optimus decides to give them advanced weaponry and escorts the [[Axiom Gun]] to NEST headquarters. After getting the convoy to destination, the Autobots meet with Sam who is going to visit the deli where [[Seymour Simmons|Agent Simmons]] is currently working. With intel from Simmons, Sam has Bumblebee take him to the museum to seek out a robot named [[Jetfire (ROTF)|Jetfire]]. While Sam looks for Jetfire, Bumblebee defends the museum from the Decepticon troops. Jetfire emerges from the museum and takes Sam through the inter-dimensional [[space bridge]] to [[Cairo]], Egypt, with the Autobots following.

Jetfire reveals the the [[Dynasty of Primes]] have constructed a machine called the [[Solar harvester|Sun Harvester]] hidden in an [[Pyramid|Egyptian pyramid]]. He says the device destroys stars to harvest their energy. Upon arrival in the outskirts of Cairo, the Autobots search for Sam while evading Decepticon troops. After finding Sam, Optimus Prime takes him to the Tomb of the 12 Ancients. While Sam is in the tomb, Optimus defends it from Megatron and [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]]. Optimus defeats Megatron and Starscream, but they escape after Megatron impales Jetfire. Before dying, Jetfire lends his wings and parts to Optimus Prime. In the city Bumblebee faces Devastator who is leading the Decepticon troops attacking Cairo.

The Fallen reveals himself and the Sun Harvester. Optimus battles The Fallen, destroying him by impaling his face with his sword. The Fallen falls into the Sun Harvester, destroying it. With the Ancient Transformers avenged, [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]] tells Optimus that Megatron is on a ship in a distant galaxy. Optimus then salutes his troops for their good work in stopping the Decepticons.

===Decepticon Campaign===

The Decepticon campaign begins in Shanghai with Sideways tracking down Autobots in his area. He then learns that Grindor has gone missing and Sideways must find, repair, and transport Grindor to the extraction site. Once Grindor is safe, he attacks Autobots protecting NEST arrays and infiltrates them with a [[viroid]]s, viruses that give the Decepticons access to NEST communications. Elsewhere, Long Haul destroys NEST bases located around the city of Shanghai. Ironhide emerges to fight Long Haul but is defeated. Starscream proclaims the victory as a message to Optimus Prime.

The Decepticons then head to Burbank, California. Soundwave has learned that Sam Witwicky has given a shard of the Allspark to Mikaela. They hope to recover the shard and revive Megatron. Long Haul destroys buildings, capturing men who may know Mikaela's location. However, the probe Starscream uses kills the first three before they can be of any use. Although the last engineer dies, Starscream is able to discover Mikaela's location. Long Haul is once again sent to recover her. Unfortunately, Starscream receives word that the Decepticon troops transporting Mikaela has been intercepted by the Autobots. After this, Starscream decides to kidnap NSA chief Galloway. After destroying several buildings owned by the front corporation Massive Dynamics, Starscream captures Galloway and places him under Decepticon control. Breakaway attempts to stop the Decepticons, but he is killed by Grindor.

With Galloway under their control, the Decepticons learn both the location of the All Spark shard and where Megatron's remains have been hidden. Soundwave dispatches [[Ravage (ROTF)|Ravage]] to retrieve the shard, while Starscream and Long Haul head to the Laurentian Abyss. Starscream destroys the turrets on aircraft carriers stationed at the Abyss, allowing the Decepticons to gain access to Megatron's remains. Long Haul uses the shard to raise Megatron back to life, who returns to the ''Nemesis'' and presents himself to the Fallen. Megatron believes he has failed, but the Fallen reveals that there is a machine that can create the energon needed to raise their army. The knowledge lies within Sam Witwicky. Megatron dispatches Grindor to retrieve the boy, and succeeds, but the Autobots rescue him when Starscream's extraction unit is defeated. However, their hunt for the boyhas drawn out Optimus Prime. Megatron defeats Optimus and has Starscream destroy a museum that Sam entered, but he is not among the ruins. They learn he was transported to Cairo, Egypt via a Space Bridge created by Jetfire.

Megatron arrives on the outskirts of an Egyptian city and engages Autobots in combat. Jetfire and Bumblebee both challenge him, but are destroyed. Long Haul is then dispatched to destroy the Axiom Gun. With the last threats removed, Megatron goes to meet the Fallen at the harvester. However, Optimus survived his battle with Megatron and reveals that The Fallen has no way to make Megatron a Prime, as Primes are born, not made. Megatron then attacks and destroys his former master, but Optimus is able to destroy the harvester before it can destroy the sun.

With his initial plan ruined, Megatron returns to the ''Nemesis'' and activates the protoforms inside the ship, commanding his new army to arise.
==Technical errors and oddities==
* In the PC version, when you insert the game disc for the first time, the game crashes as soon as it reaches the Paramount logo screen. The only way to fix this is to restart your computer, however, the error will instantly return the next time you insert the disc, thus forcing you to restart your computer again. The only way to avoid this glitch is to keep the disc in your CD drive.

*G1-style colour schemes for Ironhide and Starscream can be unlocked for both single and multiplayer modes. Additionally, a yellow colour scheme can be unlocked for Long Haul, making him more closely resemble a conventional (or [[Tonka]]) dump truck.

*As in the [[Transformers The Game|previous games]], [[Frank Welker]] returns as Megatron. He does not, however, voice any of the characters ([[Soundwave (ROTF)|Soundwave]], [[Grindor (ROTF)|Grindor]], and [[Devastator (ROTF)|Devastator]]) he did in the movie.

*Several multiplayer levels feature advertisements for Coca-Cola.

*Fans of G1 will be pleased to find out that some achievements are named after episodes of the G1 cartoon, such as [[Carnage in C-Minor]] and [[Megatron's Master Plan]]. There's even an achievement titled You've Got [[The Touch]].

==Differences between the Game and Movie==
* The Decepticons are not looking for the [[Matrix of Leadership]] as they did in the movie, but the solar harvester itself (in the movie they already knew where the harvester was).
* In the Decepticon campaign, it's said that the Decepticons were in Shanghai to look for Megatron's remains.
* Breakaway did not appear in the movie.
* In the movie, Bumblebee is still having troubles with his speech. In the game, he has completely regained his speech.
* In the game, Optimus Prime doesn't die in either campaign, so he wasn't resurrected in the game. The battle in the forest doesn't happen either, but there's a similar battle in Cairo against Megatron and Starscream, although Jetfire is also present.
* Jetfire's death is altered. In the movie, he commits suicide and gives his parts to Optimus. In the games, he is either stabbed by Megatron before giving his parts to Optimus (Autobot campaign) or killed by the player (Decepticon campaign). Also, in the movie there's a neat combination sequence for Jetfire's parts and Optimus. In the game...Prime just abruptly appears in Autobot HQ in the next cutscene wearing Jetfire armor. Talk about anti-climactic.
* In the movie, Sideways is killed by [[Sideswipe (ROTF)|Sideswipe]]. In the Autobot campaign, he is killed by Ironhide (or whoever the player is), since although Sideswipe was later added to the game as downloadable content, he was originally absent from this game.
* Along with Sideswipe, [[Skids (ROTF)|Skids]], [[Mudflap (ROTF)|Mudflap]], [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]], [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] and [[Jolt (ROTF)|Jolt]] are absent from the game's story, and [[Ravage (ROTF)|Ravage]] is only mentioned briefly in the Decepticon campaign. The only [[Constructicon (ROTF)|Constructicon]] to make an appearance, except as a part of [[Devastator (ROTF)|Devastator]], is [[Long Haul (ROTF)|Long Haul]] (as well as [[Constructicon Scout]]s very rarely being present as enemies in the Autobot campaign). Of the major human characters, [[Leo Spitz]] is not seen or mentioned during the game, and [[Seymour Simmons|Agent Simmons]] is only mentioned in a mission where the player has to escort Sam to the diner where he works.
* Like [[Revenge of the Fallen (novel)|other]] [[Revenge of the Fallen Movie Adaptation|adaptations]], the [[Tomb of the Primes]] is called the Tomb of the Twelve, while in the movie, there were only seven dead Primes.
* In the movie, Devastator is killed at the pyramids. In the game, he is killed in Cairo, meaning he never gets the chance to rip the pyramid apart, yet in the battle against The Fallen, the pyramid is open, revealing the solar harvester.
* The Autobots did not supply the humans with a weapon to battle the Decepticons in the movie.
* [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] speaks in a voice rather reminiscent of his [[Starscream (G1)|G1 counterpart]] in the movie. In the game, his voice is far deeper and more aggressive in nature, although he has the same voice actor.
* In the game, the Decepticons have to fight their way past a Naval fleet in order to reach Megatron's remains. In the movie, they just sneak past them on a ship and then dive straight down.
'''All good things...'''

==Synopsis==
Sometime after the end of the last issue, the [[Autobot|Autobots]] '''came''' to [[Klo]], '''saw''' a [[Decepticon]], and were '''conquered'''. As Octopunch leads a tracker team to hunt down the remaining survivors, Grimlock is trying to keep the last five Autobots alive. Unfortunately for him, Prowl is one of the survivors, and spares no breath berating Grimlock for the situation. It seems the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] were led into an obvious trap upon the Autobots' arrival on Klo, and the resulting melee was a slaughter. Prowl's pontificating is cut short when Fangry leads the hunting party to double-back, and the Decepticons move in for the kill.

Back at the scene of the first battle, Bludgeon is about to administer another execution when he and his warriors are suddenly caught off guard by the arriving [[Neo-Knights]]. The Decepticons quickly learn that the humans were only the first wave, and onto the battlefield drops the second wave — Optimus Prime, alive and kicking. Despite Bludgeon's disbelieving cries, Prime is indeed back, and he introduces his new friend, the legendary Last Autobot. The child of [[Primus]] relates how he first encountered Hi-Q and the [[Neo-Knights]] on Cybertron, and reformatted the [[Nebulos|Nebulan]] into a [[Nucleon]]-enhanced [[Action Master]] version of Optimus Prime.

The Decepticons dogpile on Prime, but prove less than effective. What's more, the Last Autobot begins using his powers to reanimate all of the fallen Autobots, increasing their forces by the minute. As Grimlock and his group of survivors charge over the hillside, the tide of battle quickly turns towards the Autobots, and Bludgeon's troops are put to retreat. As Bludgeon proclaims he will lead his troops into the voluntary exile that honor demands, he quietly tells Stranglehold to gather their forces, to live to fight another day.

As the Autobots wrap up, Optimus Prime informs his brethren that [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] survives, restored by the Last Autobot's power and the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] energy that washed over the planet in the final battle with [[Unicron]]. The Autobots prepare to help the Klozians rebuild, take the Neo-Knights home and, finally, return to their home planet for a new era of peace and enlightenment.

==Items of note==
* Optimus Prime appears in his Action Master design, but Nucleon is not explicitly mentioned here as being a part of his transformation. However, Hi-Q absorbed energy during Grimlock's metamorphosis to Action Master form in "[[Still Life!]]", an indirect appropriation of Nucleon that is confirmed in Transformers UK Annual #7, "[[Another Time and Place]]".
* If a (Fill in the Blank)master is killed with their partner, could the Last Autobot still resurrect them?
* Apparently Crankcase is perfectly fine surviving without a head.
* With typical Marvel humor, this issue is billed as '''#80''' in a '''four-issue''' limited series.
* Simon Furman's "send-off" message at the end of the issue claims that this will almost certainly mark the end of Transformers as a story, but that he hopes to continue to write stories about the Neo-Knights. Wonder how that turned out?
* Game over, man — game over.
The '''Combaticons''' are a unit of fierce Decepticon soldiers, operating with (mostly) military precision under the watchful eye of the tactically brilliant Onslaught.
===American cartoon continuity===
[[Image:Starscreams brigade 5 letsgo.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Dad's Army]]
When [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] was banished from the Decepticons for Yet Another Failed Coup Against [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], he was deposited on the island of [[Guadalcanal]], the site of one of the major battles between the [[United States of America]] and [[Japan|Imperial Japan]] during World War II. There he found and rebuilt several abandoned US military vehicles to pass the time. After he finished, he decided that if Megatron can have a Decepticon army, then so can he!

After bluffing his way past [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] and [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] to use the [[space bridge]], he travelled to a detention center on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and liberated the [[Personality component|personality components]] of several [[Renegade Decepticon|Decepticon political prisoners]] before destroying the rest. Back on [[Earth]], Starscream installed the sparks into the rusting military vehicles and ordered them to transform.

The reborn Combaticons were less than pleased with their 'new', primitive bodies, nor were they particularly thankful to Starscream for freeing them after millions of years of imprisonment. That is, until the former Decepticon Air Commander revealed that he had neglected to install [[energy absorber]] units into their bodies, so they would have no way of refueling. As he was the only one with the knowledge and expertise to install them, he demanded their allegiance in his aim to overthrow Megatron. The Combaticons agreed to obey Starscream, for now.

[[Image:Starscreams brigade 7 SSrideshoulder.jpg|right|155px|thumb|SQUAWK! Starscream wanna cracker!]]
Under Starscream's leadership, the Combaticons managed to capture several prisoners, then used their energy absorbers to recharge themselves at a power plant. Unfortunately, Megatron and the Decepticons attacked, while the Autobots rescued their comrades. The [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] formed [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], who was quickly defeated by the Combaticons' much more powerful, but dull-witted combined form, Bruticus. Starscream ordered Bruticus to grab Megatron, forcing his former commander to acknowledge Starscream as the new leader of the Decepticons. Under duress, Megatron did so as the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]] watched nearby. The latter group, deciding that Starscream would be too dangerous as a leader, quickly formed [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] and defeated Bruticus with a single attack.

Starscream and the Combaticons were banished from Earth on a small asteroid, left to wallow in their own misery and blame each other for their failures. {{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 4 changing course.jpg|left|150px|thumb|Lads, we can get the scrambled channels now]]
Starscream and the Combaticons quickly had a falling-out. After Starscream left, the Combaticons attacked Cybertron, easily defeating [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his [[Sentinel (G1)|drones]]. Thirsting for revenge, Onslaught reprogrammed the space bridge to pull Earth closer to the [[Sun]], in the hopes of destroying it and every Transformer there. The Autobots and Decepticons temporarily joined forces to retake Cybertron and prevent Earth's destruction, and with Starscream's help, they deactivated the Combaticons once they formed Bruticus through a failsafe device built into the treacherous giant's back. Optimus Prime and Megatron agreed that Bruticus must be destroyed, but the Decepticon leader fooled the Autobots by using Shockwave's [[holographic projector]] to make it appear as though Bruticus was destroyed, when in reality the combiner was reprogrammed to be loyal only to Megatron. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 15 fakeblowup.jpg|right|150px|thumb|Care Bear Stare]]
Soon afterwards, during Megatron's latest scheme on Earth involving the theft of fighter aircraft using Middle-Eastern criminals, the Combaticons were called into service to defend Megatron's [[Giant Purple Griffin]], a large... thing that apparently pumped [[oil]]. Or something. Struggling against the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], the Combaticons formed Bruticus, yet were still knocked over when the Aerialbots twisted a tow cable around his legs. The Decepticon combiner was finally defeated when the Aerialbots ignited the nearby oil wells, causing a massive explosion that sent Megatron, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]], Bruticus and gas prices flying away. {{storylink|Aerial Assault}}

[[Image:Bruticus punch planebot.jpg|left|155px|thumb|"Bruticus punch planebot so hard, make artist draw all over cel!"]]
While attacking a human city, Bruticus was destroyed in battle with [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] (man, this guy can't seem to catch a break). Only Swindle survived, and he sold the remains of his comrades to various mercenaries and [[El Presidente|third-world dictator-types]], only to be forced to locate and rebuild the Combaticons by Megatron. The reformed Bruticus was then defeated when Megatron's disruptor cannon was overloaded by the human-built [[B.O.T. (robot)|B.O.T.]], once again sending the Decepticon flying into the sky. {{storylink|B.O.T. (episode)|B.O.T.}}

[[Image:Combaticons bruticus.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Not often you can get a view of the whole team AND their combined form in a single screencap.]]

After the great battle at [[Autobot City]], the Combaticons were among the battered Decepticon forces who withdrew to [[Chaar]]. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}} Swindle was instrumental in negotiating an alliance with the [[Quintesson|Quintessons]]; {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2}} the Combaticons later participated in a Quintesson-led assault on the Autobots on [[Goo]]. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3}} {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4}}

A lone Blast Off later attacked a [[Skuxxoid]] who was using [[Death crystal|death crystals]] to blow stuff up in Decepticon territory, and forced the alien to tell him where he got the ammunition. When a group of Autobots tried to find the crystals as well, Blast Off attacked them alongside [[Runamuck (G1)|Runamuck]]. {{storylink|Chaos (episode)|Chaos}} The Combaticons later failed to assassinate Decepticon exile [[Octane]] at [[Autobot City]], {{storylink|Starscream's Ghost}} then succeeded in shooting up a shuttle meant to take human delegates to an interstellar peace conference. {{storylink|Surprise Party}}

During a Decepticon attack on the [[Netherlands]], Swindle infiltrated [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] and stole his [[transformation cog]], whilst Vortex was charged with guarding [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]]. {{storylink|The Ultimate Weapon}} The Combaticons later participated in the assault on [[Paradron]], where they guarded the imprisoned Paradronians, among other things. {{storylink|Fight or Flee}} When the Earth was infected by the [[Hate Plague]], the Combaticons (Bruticus) were among those infected. Brawl was seen driving along the road and infecting [[Headstrong]] who, in turn, infected [[Razorclaw (G1)|Razorclaw]] while Vortex was attacked a civilian plane on a runway. {{storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1}}

Under [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s directions, the Combaticons constructed a giant planetary rocket engine that was used to propel Cybertron into orbit around Earth. They also dragged away the bodies of defeated Autobots to use as fuel for the engine. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 3}}
Bruticus arrived to help the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]] fight [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] and [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] at a baseball stadium in [[Japan]]. He quickly defeated Defensor, injuring [[Hot Spot (G1)|his torso]] and preventing him from combining. In response, Superion disabled Brawl and Swindle using his [[electrostatic discharger rifle]], allowing [[First Aid (G1)|First Aid]] and [[Streetwise (G1)|Streetwise]] to steal their places as Bruticus's legs. Taking control of the giant's flight systems, the two Protectobots flew off with Bruticus as [[Kenji]] cheered at them to drop the Combaticons into the sea. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 5}} Onslaught later joined the Stunticons in a scheme to defame the Autobots by destroying factories around Japan whilst wearing Autobot [[insignia]]s. When confronted by the real Autobots, he "combined" with fellow [[Decepticon Trailer Brigade]] member [[Motormaster]], but they were defeated and sent packing by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 7}}

The Combaticons' next mission was to hunt down [[Murdered puppy|an escaped dog]] that Megatron had experimented on, imbuing it with [[Decepticon super science]]. Brawl managed to fatally injure the animal, much to Onslaught's annoyance as they were supposed to capture it alive. The Autobot [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]] soon arrived to put a halt to their activities, and the dog expressed its gratitude by using its experimental powers to energize Powerglide with [[Scramble Power]]. As Powerglide used the power to combine with his fellow [[Mini Vehicle|Minibots]], the Combaticons responded by forming Bruticus. He proved weaker than this new [[Minibot combiner]], however, as it used the "Minibot Warrior Spiral Attack" to drill straight through Bruticus's chest, defeating him.
The Combaticons and Stunticons were working out of Trypticon where the kidnapped scientist [[Doctor Dalton]] was being forced to work for Galvatron's evil ends. When the Aerialbots and Protectobots arrived to save the scientist, Onslaught and Motormaster combined with Trypticon in their deployment launcher modes. Hurtling their fellow Decepticons at Superion did such damage that the Aerialbots were forced to disassemble. Somehow, however, the remaining Protectobots managed to hold off both Bruticus and Menasor long enough for [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]] to repair the Aerialbots, and for [[Blades (G1)|Blades]] to sneak past the Decepticons and retrieve Dalton. {{storylink|The Great Transformer War issue 1}}
''The Combaticons and their fellow [[Special Team|Special Teams]] were first conceived within [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster Witwicky]]'s mind shortly after the human had relinquished control of the [[Creation Matrix]] to [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] was able to view this data remotely and prepare for their development. {{storylink|Second Generation!}}''

On their first mission on Earth, the Combaticons followed [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] to retrieve the human [[hydrothermocline]] plant. When they arrived, they faced [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] waiting for them. The Combaticons formed Bruticus and stared down [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] when a nearby human named [[Ethan Zachary]] suggested that they play a [[Multi-World|video game]] over the plant instead. Optimus Prime and Megatron both agreed, and the Combaticons were sent into the game to attack the Protectobots. However, they lost every battle due to not taking the "wildlife" AI into account. {{storylink|Afterdeath!}} After this, the Combaticons didn't do much but follow Megatron around, even when their mentally unstable leader heavily damaged Brawl for mouthing off. {{storylink|Gone but Not Forgotten!}}
They were confronted by the Aerialbots named [[Skydive (G1 Aerialbot)|Skydive]] and [[Slingshot]], and fought on the surface over the city. Little did they know that the [[city-dweller]]s were robots themselves, remotely storing and copying images of the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, imprinting themselves with the skills of warfare. They were only stopped by the unlikely duo of Ravage and [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]]. After the city-dwellers were defeated, the Autobots granted safe passage to their one-time Decepticon allies. The five soldiers who would one day become the Combaticons were early participants in the Decepticons' war effort. While Onslaught and the others joined Shockwave in attacking [[Iacon]] and the High Council Pavilions being protected by the Autobots, Swindle chose to throw in with Starscream, helping him to disable [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and assume temporary control over Megatron's planetary juggernaut project. {{storylink|The War Within}}

At some later date, these five warriors were officially brought together as a combiner team, given the ability to form Bruticus. Like the other Combiners, they were banned from operating together on any given faction during the Dark Ages, by decree of the [[Crisis Intervention Accord]] to prevent any more devastation to the planet at the hands of the super-robot combiners.<ref>[[Transformers: The Ultimate Guide]]</ref> The Combaticons were still authorized to operate individually and separately among the various Decepticon factions. Given his previous efforts helping [[Motormaster]] and the [[Battlecharger|Battlechargers]] with Starscream's coup, Swindle may have joined them as a member of the [[Predacon (War Within)|Predacons]], although this was never stated. {{storylink|War Within: The Dark Ages|The War Within: The Dark Ages}}

By the modern era, the Combaticons had been declared war criminals by the united Cybertronian government under Shockwave and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. The details of their crimes and why they were singled-out for imprisonment is unclear—Shockwave may have been intentionally eliminating [[Ratbat (G1)|potential rivals]] or [[Stunticon (G1)|loose cannons]], or may simply have allowed their imprisonment as a token showing of cooperation with the Autobot High Council. Once the Transformers from Earth were contacted, and uprisings began taking place on Cybertron, Starscream managed to worm his way into the detention facilities and recover the five stasis pods containing the Combaticons. He loaded them onto his stolen transport and brought them back to Earth with him and the rest of his hand-picked crew. {{storylink|Revelation (War and Peace)|Revelation}}

[[Image:Onslaught G1DW routeofallevil.jpg|right|200px|thumb|"YOOOOOO JOE!"]]
On Earth, Starscream reactivated the Combaticons as his personal "brigade", scanning Earth military vehicles for their alternate modes. Using the Combaticons as shock troops, he made a two-staged assault on the Ark, and successfully took five of the seven remaining Autobots off-line. {{storylink|Night of the Combaticons}} Starscream and Bruticus' efforts to complete their set were interrupted by the arrival of [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]], Starscream's crazed clone-brother, and Bruticus was damaged in the melee. {{storylink|Black Sunshine}} After the battle with Sunstorm, Starscream attempted to train the Combaticons into better military shape, using the Autobot prisoner [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] as a "tackling dummy". His training efforts were interrupted by the return of Megatron and his combiner team, the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]]. Even as Bruticus, the Combaticons quickly fell before the might of [[Predaking]]. {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}
The Combaticons were among the Decepticons under control of "the Son of Megatron", [[Serpent O.R.]]. Onslaught tried to protect his leader from a vengeful Optimus Prime while Brawl, Vortex and Blast Off were seen fighting against a combined Autobot-[[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] army. Swindle, however, was nowhere to be found. {{storylink|The Art of War issue 5}}

===IDW comics continuity===
[[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] was one of the worst violators of the [[Tyrest Accord]], constantly selling Transformers technology to alien races, and had gone AWOL from the Decepticons, hunted by both sides of the war. {{storylink|Spotlight: Ultra Magnus}} The other four remained Combaticons, and were a dangerous tactical unit capable of taking on and beating superior numbers (even ones backed up by [[Arcee (G1)|total loonies]]). Under orders from [[Banzai-Tron (G1)|Banzaitron]], they successfully raided the [[Garrus-9]] Autobot prison and abducted [[Pretender Monster|the six newest inmates]], the gestalt Transformers. {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}}

Soon afterwards, the Combaticons were among the only survivors of an attack by the [[Dead Universe]] Transformers, who activated the gestalt combined form, [[Monstructor]], inside Banzaitron's base. {{storylink|Spotlight: Hardhead}} After a deal was negotiated between Arcee and Banzaitron; the Combaticons, remaining DSS members and the crazed Autobot fought Monstructor on [[Rotan]].
They were available as part of the 1986 and 1987 assortments. In most markets, the Combaticons were only sold as individuals; the combined [[giftset]] was only available in Japan and Italy.

:Like their counterparts, the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], the four small Combaticons feature unique transformation schemes. All have attachable weapons for their vehicle modes. *Before the Combaticons were animated, there were apparently two different character model sheets made up for them. The ones we know use the toy heads, but bodies that, for whatever reason, have little resemblance to the actual vehicles or robot modes of the actual Combaticon figures. Another one appears to be based heavily on the toys... but with new heads. These went unused in any media.
===American cartoon continuity===

Starscream and the Combaticons were banished from Earth on a small asteroid, left to wallow in their own misery and blame each other for their failures. {{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 4 changing course.jpg|left|150px|thumb|Lads, we can get the scrambled channels now]]
Starscream and the Combaticons quickly had a falling-out. After Starscream left, the Combaticons attacked Cybertron, easily defeating [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his [[Sentinel (G1)|drones]]. Thirsting for revenge, Onslaught reprogrammed the space bridge to pull Earth closer to the [[Sun]], in the hopes of destroying it and every Transformer there. The Autobots and Decepticons temporarily joined forces to retake Cybertron and prevent Earth's destruction, and with Starscream's help, they deactivated the Combaticons once they formed Bruticus through a failsafe device built into the treacherous giant's back. Optimus Prime and Megatron agreed that Bruticus must be destroyed, but the Decepticon leader fooled the Autobots by using Shockwave's [[holographic projector]] to make it appear as though Bruticus was destroyed, when in reality the combiner was reprogrammed to be loyal only to Megatron. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 15 fakeblowup.jpg|right|150px|thumb|Care Bear Stare]]
Soon afterwards, during Megatron's latest scheme on Earth involving the theft of fighter aircraft using Middle-Eastern criminals, the Combaticons were called into service to defend Megatron's [[Giant Purple Griffin]], a large... thing that apparently pumped [[oil]]. Or something. Struggling against the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], the Combaticons formed Bruticus, yet were still knocked over when the Aerialbots twisted a tow cable around his legs. The Decepticon combiner was finally defeated when the Aerialbots ignited the nearby oil wells, causing a massive explosion that sent Megatron, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]], Bruticus and gas prices flying away. {{storylink|Aerial Assault}}

[[Image:Bruticus punch planebot.jpg|left|155px|thumb|"Bruticus punch planebot so hard, make artist draw all over cel!"]]
While attacking a human city, Bruticus was destroyed in battle with [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] (man, this guy can't seem to catch a break). Only Swindle survived, and he sold the remains of his comrades to various mercenaries and [[El Presidente|third-world dictator-types]], only to be forced to locate and rebuild the Combaticons by Megatron. The reformed Bruticus was then defeated when Megatron's disruptor cannon was overloaded by the human-built [[B.O.T. (robot)|B.O.T.]], once again sending the Decepticon flying into the sky. {{storylink|B.O.T. (episode)|B.O.T.}}

[[Image:Combaticons bruticus.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Not often you can get a view of the whole team AND their combined form in a single screencap.]]
After the great battle at [[Autobot City]], the Combaticons were among the battered Decepticon forces who withdrew to [[Chaar]]. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}} Swindle was instrumental in negotiating an alliance with the [[Quintesson|Quintessons]]; {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2}} the Combaticons later participated in a Quintesson-led assault on the Autobots on [[Goo]]. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3}} {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4}}

A lone Blast Off later attacked a [[Skuxxoid]] who was using [[Death crystal|death crystals]] to blow stuff up in Decepticon territory, and forced the alien to tell him where he got the ammunition. When a group of Autobots tried to find the crystals as well, Blast Off attacked them alongside [[Runamuck (G1)|Runamuck]]. {{storylink|Chaos (episode)|Chaos}} The Combaticons later failed to assassinate Decepticon exile [[Octane]] at [[Autobot City]], {{storylink|Starscream's Ghost}} then succeeded in shooting up a shuttle meant to take human delegates to an interstellar peace conference. {{storylink|Surprise Party}}
During a Decepticon attack on the [[Netherlands]], Swindle infiltrated [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] and stole his [[transformation cog]], whilst Vortex was charged with guarding [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]]. {{storylink|The Ultimate Weapon}} The Combaticons later participated in the assault on [[Paradron]], where they guarded the imprisoned Paradronians, among other things. {{storylink|Fight or Flee}} When the Earth was infected by the [[Hate Plague]], the Combaticons (Bruticus) were among those infected. Brawl was seen driving along the road and infecting {{Headstrong}} who, in turn, infected [[Razorclaw (G1)|Razorclaw]] while Vortex was attacked a civilian plane on a runway. {{storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1}}

Under [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s directions, the Combaticons constructed a giant planetary rocket engine that was used to propel Cybertron into orbit around Earth.
====Generation 1====
{{noteukonly}}

On their first mission on Earth, the Combaticons followed [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] to retrieve the human [[hydrothermocline]] plant. When they arrived, they faced [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] waiting for them. The Combaticons formed Bruticus and stared down [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] when a nearby human named [[Ethan Zachary]] suggested that they play a [[Multi-World|video game]] over the plant instead. Optimus Prime and Megatron both agreed, and the Combaticons were sent into the game to attack the Protectobots. However, they lost every battle due to not taking the "wildlife" AI into account. {{storylink|Afterdeath!}} After this, the Combaticons didn't do much but follow Megatron around, even when their mentally unstable leader heavily damaged Brawl for mouthing off. {{storylink|Gone but Not Forgotten!}}

The Combaticons would later attack the [[Throttlebot|Throttlebots]] in a used car lot, only for the Protectobots and [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] to interfere and force them to retreat. {{storylink|Used Autobots}} Shortly afterwards, the group decided to ambush the Protectobots on their way to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. This time, Bruticus claimed victory over Defensor by hitting him with a train, but was soon tricked and broken into his component parts by Blaster. After this, Blaster took control of Blast Off and flew into space, separating the shuttle from the other Combations. {{storylink|Child's Play (issue)|Child's Play}} Along with most of the Decepticon army, the Combaticons later ambushed the Autobots on the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]], only to be beaten back by Blaster and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]. {{storylink|Totaled!}}
After Bludgeon's defeat, Swindle took the returning Decepticon leader Megatron on a tour of the [[Warworld]] battleship he had inherited. {{storylink|The Gathering Darkness}} Soon after, Brawl and Blast Off were among the Decepticons preparing to charge into battle against the [[Cybertronian (faction)|Cybertronian Empire]]. {{storylink|New Dawn}} Vortex was seen with various other Decepticons attacking the Cybertronians on [[Ethos]]. {{storylink|Escalation!}} As the alliance progressed, Onslaught was struck by empathic pains as his apparent spawn [[Mindset]] was consumed by the [[Swarm (G2)|Swarm]]. {{storylink|Swarm (issue)|Swarm}}

During the final battle at [[Earth]], all the Combaticons later attempted to defend the [[Warworld]] against a Cybertronian boarding party led by the treacherous Starscream. Despite Onslaught's emphatic orders of "maximum firepower", they didn't do so well. {{storylink|Total War!}}

===Young Corgi continuity===

When the fleshlings discovered a mysterious lost civilization buried underneath the ice, the Combaticons Brawl, Vortex and Blast Off joined [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] in seeking whatever treasures the hidden city might have. They were confronted by the Aerialbots named [[Skydive (G1 Aerialbot)|Skydive]] and [[Slingshot]], and fought on the surface over the city. Little did they know that the [[city-dweller]]s were robots themselves, remotely storing and copying images of the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, imprinting themselves with the skills of warfare. They were only stopped by the unlikely duo of Ravage and [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]]. After the city-dwellers were defeated, the Autobots granted safe passage to their one-time Decepticon allies. Blast Off expanded to his maximum size to transport his fellow 'Cons back to Decepticon headquarters. {{storylink|Battle Beneath the Ice}}

===Dreamwave comics continuity===
The five soldiers who would one day become the Combaticons were early participants in the Decepticons' war effort. While Onslaught and the others joined Shockwave in attacking [[Iacon]] and the High Council Pavilions being protected by the Autobots, Swindle chose to throw in with Starscream, helping him to disable [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and assume temporary control over Megatron's planetary juggernaut project. {{storylink|The War Within}}

At some later date, these five warriors were officially brought together as a combiner team, given the ability to form Bruticus. Like the other Combiners, they were banned from operating together on any given faction during the Dark Ages, by decree of the [[Crisis Intervention Accord]] to prevent any more devastation to the planet at the hands of the super-robot combiners.<ref>[[Transformers: The Ultimate Guide]]</ref> The Combaticons were still authorized to operate individually and separately among the various Decepticon factions. Given his previous efforts helping [[Motormaster]] and the [[Battlecharger|Battlechargers]] with Starscream's coup, Swindle may have joined them as a member of the [[Predacon (War Within)|Predacons]], although this was never stated. {{storylink|War Within: The Dark Ages|The War Within: The Dark Ages}}

By the modern era, the Combaticons had been declared war criminals by the united Cybertronian government under Shockwave and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]. The details of their crimes and why they were singled-out for imprisonment is unclear—Shockwave may have been intentionally eliminating [[Ratbat (G1)|potential rivals]] or [[Stunticon (G1)|loose cannons]], or may simply have allowed their imprisonment as a token showing of cooperation with the Autobot High Council. Once the Transformers from Earth were contacted, and uprisings began taking place on Cybertron, Starscream managed to worm his way into the detention facilities and recover the five stasis pods containing the Combaticons. He loaded them onto his stolen transport and brought them back to Earth with him and the rest of his hand-picked crew. {{storylink|Revelation (War and Peace)|Revelation}}

[[Image:Onslaught G1DW routeofallevil.jpg|right|200px|thumb|"YOOOOOO JOE!"]]
On Earth, Starscream reactivated the Combaticons as his personal "brigade", scanning Earth military vehicles for their alternate modes. Using the Combaticons as shock troops, he made a two-staged assault on the Ark, and successfully took five of the seven remaining Autobots off-line. {{storylink|Night of the Combaticons}} Starscream and Bruticus' efforts to complete their set were interrupted by the arrival of [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]], Starscream's crazed clone-brother, and Bruticus was damaged in the melee. {{storylink|Black Sunshine}} After the battle with Sunstorm, Starscream attempted to train the Combaticons into better military shape, using the Autobot prisoner [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] as a "tackling dummy". His training efforts were interrupted by the return of Megatron and his combiner team, the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]]. Even as Bruticus, the Combaticons quickly fell before the might of [[Predaking]]. {{storylink|The Route of All Evil}}
The Combaticons were among the Decepticons under control of "the Son of Megatron", [[Serpent O.R.]]. Onslaught tried to protect his leader from a vengeful Optimus Prime while Brawl, Vortex and Blast Off were seen fighting against a combined Autobot-[[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] army. Swindle, however, was nowhere to be found. {{storylink|The Art of War issue 5}}

===IDW comics continuity===
[[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] was one of the worst violators of the [[Tyrest Accord]], constantly selling Transformers technology to alien races, and had gone AWOL from the Decepticons, hunted by both sides of the war. {{storylink|Spotlight: Ultra Magnus}} The other four remained Combaticons, and were a dangerous tactical unit capable of taking on and beating superior numbers (even ones backed up by [[Arcee (G1)|total loonies]]). Under orders from [[Banzai-Tron (G1)|Banzaitron]], they successfully raided the [[Garrus-9]] Autobot prison and abducted [[Pretender Monster|the six newest inmates]], the gestalt Transformers. {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}}

*Before the Combaticons were animated, there were apparently two different character model sheets made up for them. Even more so than the other Decepticon [[combiner]]s, '''Abominus''' is a being of mindless fury. He's not truly a warrior - he's an animal, the destructive rages of the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcon]]s that compose him personified. His commanders can't give him orders simplistic enough for him to understand, so they just point him in the direction of objects that need to be smashed, and turn him loose. The only thing that distinguishes him from a wild beast is the enjoyment he derives from his terrible rampages.
The Terrorcons and [[Horrorcon]]s were, naturally enough, terrorizing the resort city of [[Splendora]], when they came under attack by [[Brainstorm]], [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]], and the [[Technobot (G1)|Technobots]]. The Terrorcons responded by merging into Abominus.

Rather than actually attacking his enemies, Abominus began brainlessly smashing his way through the city, till the Technobots combined into [[Computron (G1)|Computron]] and blasted him. : Abominus is formed out of all five Terrorcons. As a [[Scramble City]] combiner, each smaller Terrorcon attaches as limbs into the central body, Hun-Gurrr. He is completed by attaching fists, feet, a large chestplate, and a head, and is armed with Hun-Gurrr's [[Sonic stun-gun|rifle]].

:The instructions recommend the limb configuration pictured at the right, however due to their design any of the small Terrorcons (or any of the other Scramble City limbs from other combiners) can be used as any limb for Abominus.

: Similarly to [[Superion (G1)|Superion]], Hun-Gurrr's own slender legs lead to Abominus having some disproportionately thin thighs.

: Thanks to Hun-Gurrr's articulation, Abominus is perhaps the most poseable of the ''Generation 1'' combiners. He can swing his legs forward and backward as well as to the side, and also has knees, even if they are a little high. If you follow the configuration for Abominus as per his instructions his right leg also gets another piece of articulation thanks to Cutthroat's unusual hip swivel (kind of a really high ankle).
Though Rodimus bought into [[Optimus Prime (SG)|Optimus Prime]]'s vision for a ruthless and violent [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], he'd rather he be the one in charge. As such, Rodimus led a team of ruthless mercenaries called the [[Wrecker]]s. The battle of [[Praxus-Delta]] would be their last; Optimus Prime hired the Wreckers to bolster the Autobot ranks, but every Wrecker save Rodimus was destroyed. Rodimus believed in little else but his business contracts, and so despite his heavy losses he continued to fight for the Autobots. Eventually, when a spot on the roster "opened up," Prime made him a member of the elite [[Seeker (SG)|Seeker]] trio. <ref>Rodimus's bio card</ref>

One day, Rodimus was investigating a strange energy buildup when he stumbled onto [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]], who he'd thought long dead. After gunning down [[Ruckus (SG)|Ruckus]] when the Decepticon got in Cliffjumper's face (and explaining his [[facial hair]]), he led Cliffjumper back to [[Iacon]] to reunite with Optimus Prime.

[[Image:Seekersshatteredglass.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Does that make Rodimus Skywarp?]]

However, it didn't take long to discover that this Cliffjumper was not [[Cliffjumper (SG)|the Cliffjumper Rodimus thought he was]], but a doppelganger. As Cliffjumper lay in smoking ruin, Rodimus laughed with the others at his misfortune. The Seekers were ordered to drop Cliffjumper in the [[Rad Zone]]. This backfired when Cliffjumper fell in with the Decepticons, who quickly mounted an attack. Rodimus and the other Seekers were ordered to destroy the Decepticon armies before they could destroy the launching platform to the ''[[Ark (SG)|Ark]]'', a starship that would lead the Autobots to other planets to conquer. Ultimately, the Autobots failed to protect the launching platform, and Rodimus and the others were defeated and lay crumpled. {{storylink|Shattered Glass (issue)|Shattered Glass}}

Rodimus was present at a pitched battle between Autobot and Decepticon forces, contesting who held the sizable fuel dump at [[Arch-Ayr]]. Things started to go badly for the Autobots with the arrival of the [[Mayhem Suppression Squad]], whose members [[Dirge (SG)|Dirge]] and [[Thundercracker (SG)|Thundercracker]] managed to disable him. This failure was only punctuated by the timely arrival, and destructive rampage, of [[Wheeljack (SG)|Wheeljack]]'s new creations, the [[Dinobot (SG)|Dinobot]]s. The Autobots were forced to retreat. After the ignoble defeat, Optimus Prime sent the Autobots out to retrieve the wayward mad scientist's creatures, theorizing that they still could be put to good use. Rodimus and Blurr rendezvoused with Goldbug and Jazz, who had cornered [[Swoop (SG)|Swoop]]. There he joined his fellow Autobots in insisting that Jazz climb the observation tower that the winged monstrosity was perched upon. The plan worked like a charm, with Jazz managing to weigh the flying Dinobot down enough that he couldn't truly flee. One crack shot from Goldbug later, the group had bagged their quarry. Just to prove what a swell guy he was, Rodimus let Goldbug and Jazz drag Swoop back to base. After all, he'd just received a tip from [[Huffer (SG)|Huffer]] as to Grimlock's whereabouts, and decided the ''original'' Dinobot was a bigger prize.

Traveling deep into the Rad Zone, Rodimus and Blur found that they weren't the only ones following the trail of Grimlock. Blurr was suspicious of the proficiency Rodimus showed in tracking, but admitted he was mostly leery of a [[mutant (SG)|mutant]] attack. Descending into the catacombs Grimlock had holed up in, Rodimus' greed got the better of him when he spotted a pile of [[Energon (fuel)|Energon]] rods. Foolishly reaching out for them, he found his hand stuck in an invisible forcefield that was slowly drawing him in and eroding his structure. Blurr theorized that it was some custodial mechanism of the catacombs, and attempted to free Rodimus with weapons fire, much to his companion's distress. Agitated by Blurr's failure to free him, Rodimus pleaded with his fellow Seeker, only to be rebuffed. Changing tactics, he instead threatened to ''execute'' Blurr on the spot if he didn't help. This provoked a response, and Blurr's retaliation freed Rodimus, though he was in no shape to fight upon his liberation. This was unfortunate, as at that moment Cliffjumper and Sideswipe found the duo. About to have his chassis dragged out of the catacombs, Rodimus revealed that he had been feigning unconsciousness, and attacked Cliffjumper. This proved disastrous, as he managed to knock the otherworldly Autobot into the doorway to a hidden passage, sending them both tumbling to the levels below.

With Cliffjumper's jetpack smashed beyond repair and the stone of the chamber not yielding to Rodimus' blasters, it quickly became obvious they were trapped, the walls closing in to crush them. Rodimus theorized that there was a reset mechanism in the walls, which with his urging Cliffjumper was able to locate. Barely managing to trip the catch in time, Rodimus further surmised that the lack of wreckage in the chamber either meant that they were the first to trigger it, or that it had an evacuation system. This proved ''also'' to be correct, as they were sent barreling down a chute. As they hit bottom, it finally occurred to Rodimus what catacombs they were in, the chamber of [[Omega Terminus]]! Seeing an opportunity, he regaled Cliffjumper with the possibilities of raising an army of bots granted life by the enigmatic entity. The little red Autobot wasn't buying any of this, but Rodimus' luck held up when he found a bottle of [[scraplet]]s. Ever magnanimous, he offered his fellow traveler some, but given Cliffjumper's wariness of the creatures was able to have their healing properties all to himself. Score! Shortly afterwards, he managed to lead Cliffjumper to Omega Terminus itself, meeting up again with Sideswipe and Blurr. Rodimus again tried to sway them to his goal of using Omega Terminus to birth a new mercenary company that would beggar the Autobots and Decepticons. His sales pitch unfortunately was cut short by the arrival of Grimlock. Though they expected a thrashing, all were stunned as Grimlock transformed to robot mode and revealed a keen intelligence and newly-granted ember! Rodimus tried to take advantage of the situation, buttering up Grimlock. However, the Dinobot saw through this transparent ploy, and quickly transformed, biting off Rodimus' hand. Grimlock then bade them leave, and when they refused summoned a shambling horde of undead Cybertronians. As the fight wore on Cliffjumper called for Rodimus to toss him the scraplets, which quickly devoured the dead metal of their opponents. Finally, Omega Terminus ejected all and sundry from the chamber.

[[Image:Ratchetsgd&d.jpg|left|thumb|250px|And at the end of the arm... was a HOOK!]]

Upon his return to base, Optimus Prime ordered that Rodimus undergo repairs from the tender hands of [[Ratchet (SG)|Ratchet]]. Much to his displeasure, he found his maimed hand replaced by a whirring saw-blade.{{storylink|Dungeons & Dinobots}}

Rodimus saw his next chance when Optimus Prime was distracted by Ricochet's capture of [[Megatron (SG)|Megatron]], just prior to the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s launch. Feigning communication trouble as Prime set off for the [[Temple of Knowledge]], and proceeded to try to trick his fellow Autobots into believing their leader had given the order to launch without him. This lie didn't go over very well, so he tried instead to recruit them to his little conspiracy. Blurr was about to dismiss this as well and contact Prime, but Goldbug dissuaded him... with a blaster. After a purge of anyone deemed too loyal to Prime, the ''Ark'' took off for [[Earth]]! En route, the ''[[Nemesis (SG)|Nemesis]]'' caught up with the ship and staged a daring assault. With Decepticons crawling on the hull, Rodimus ordered the ship to make controlled planetfall, hoping to burn the attackers off. When said planetfall became ''much'' less controlled, the opportunist Autobot decided to embrace 'that oldest and noblest of pirate traditions' and boarded an escape pod. {{storylink|Do Over}}

After exiting the pod, Rodimus successfully infiltrated a civilized area disguised as a sports car. Though not identifiable as an alien robot, he was far from inconspicuous and thus gained the attention of fledgling car thief [[Butch Witwicky (SG)|Butch Witwicky]]. The young ne'er do well was confused by a detail which Rodimus had missed in his disguise: a keyhole on the car's door. Thanking Butch and his brothers for the tip, Rodimus transformed into his robot mode and informed them in no uncertain terms that they were now working for him. Driving the human brothers to the wreckage along the shores of the [[Arizona Bay]], Rodimus met up with the rest of the Autobots crewing the ''Ark''. The reunion was less than happy, as his earlier cowardice incited them to draw weapons on him. Rodimus begged them to hold off as he transformed and showed them the Witwicky brothers. Goldbug regarded the creatures as nothing more than vermin, but Rodimus stressed that as thieves they were kindred spirits to the Autobots. [[Big Daddy (SG)|Big Daddy]] agreed, and with Goldbug apparently deterred for the moment they proceeded to the ''Ark''. Finding large portions of it flooded and major systems inoperable, it was obvious to Rodimus that the vessel wasn't budging. Though his reception onboard the ship was cold at best, Rodimus' new allies proved themselves when they correctly identified what [[Seaspray (SG)|Seaspray]] had dredged up from the bottom of the Arizona Bay: a mind-boggling amount of American currency. Though a mercenary, the barter-based commerce of Cybertron had left Rodimus with no real concept of money, and so the Witwickys set out to educate the Autobots on the finer points of larceny. Rodimus began to see the merit in not ''completely'' pillaging a resource-rich planet, allowing for greater returns. Though Goldbug was still skeptical it could be pulled off, Rodimus revealed his ace in the hole by having the Witwicky brothers replay a news broadcast detailing a new defense satellite that had recently been launched. Goldbug chose this moment to pointedly question Rodimus' ability to lead. The mercenary Autobot asked Goldbug if this was a ''formal'' challenge, which his fellow Seeker confirmed by attacking. After a few blows the more fuel-efficient Goldbug seemed to be gaining the upper hand, until the canny Rodimus deleted his opponent's personnel file from the ship database. The ploy had its desired effect as the shipboard security mechanisms painfully detained Goldbug, his attempts to order [[Teletraan-X]] unrecognized by the computer. As Goldbug conceded defeat, Rodimus allowed his release and claimed a new title: Rodimus ''Prime''.

Rodimus and Wheeljack were able to infiltrate [[Burpleson Air Force Base]] under the pretense of the Witwicky brothers being arrested by the guards of the facility. Impounded as evidence, they were able to overwhelm the base from within once [[Blaster (SG)|Blaster]]'s diversionary attack was underway. Shortly after, Rodimus' human allies were freed by ''another'' Witwicky sibling, Sergeant [[Bruce Witwicky]]. The defense satellite successfully taken over, Rodimus broadcast on all human frequencies to announce that all human government and commerce would pay tribute to the Autobots. Soon, the Decepticons mounted an attack on the base to stop him, and Rodimus was frustrated by his troops' inability to repel the enemy, in spite of superior numbers. He soon found the control room he resided in breached by the fleeing Goldbug, apparently terrified of the diminutive Decepticon [[Frenzy (SG)|Frenzy]]. This proved to be with good reason, as the frothing little bot began pummeling them both, allowing the Decepticons' human allies access to the console. His control of the satellite usurped by [[Heatwave]], Rodimus was forced to flee the base as the weapons system fired upon it.{{storylink|Eye in the Sky}}
[[Image:Arcana mtmte.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Tex Arcana]]
For a man whose work has had such a big effect on the lives of so many Nebulans and Transformers, very few people really know the distant and remote '''Arcana'''. Not even [[Brainstorm]], who shares his psyche, can claim to truly fathom the workings of his partner's mind. But then, Arcana seems to cultivate an extremely anti-social persona unintentionally, training first as a medical doctor, only to grow bored and focus on long-forgotten and repudiated scientific lore of his planet, earning the ire of medical colleagues. Yet it was this combination of knowledge and skill, along with the combined input of his future partner, that allowed the creation of the [[Binary Bond|Binary Bonding]] process.

While [[Nebulos]]' capital city [[Koraja]] was under siege by the [[Decepticon|Decepticons]], the Autobots were voluntary prisoners of the planet, refusing to act on their own in order to ensure the trust of the people. [[Galen]] called upon the services of Arcana, a doctor of bio-engineering, to work around these restrictions by placing the Autobots' bodies partially under the control of Nebulan partners. Inventing Headmaster technology on the spot, he submitted himself as one of its test subjects, and became the Headmaster partner of Brainstorm. With Brainstorm and his fellow Autobots' new-found might, they easily beat back the Decepticon onslaught. In the aftermath, Arcana and the other test subjects revealed themselves as the heads of the robots, and he was thanked by the citizens of Koraja. {{storylink|Broken Glass!|Broken Glass!}}

''Recalling the procedure, Stylor ranted at length about how absurdly dressed Arcana was for a man his age. Shoulder capes? Shoulder-length hair despite his male-pattern baldness? Those cyclops shades? As if! {{storylink|Stylor's Story|Stylor's Story}}''
[[Image:Arcanastylortrialbyfire.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"One point twenty-one jigawatts!"]]
Soon after, the talents of the Headmasters, along with the [[Technobot (G1)|Technobots]], were responsible for defeating the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] and [[Horrorcon|Horrorcons]] at the resort city of [[Splendora]]. This time, the rescued citizens reacted in fear at the sight of their saviors, and Arcana's reveal did less to reassure them. Later, [[Peer Soriza]] and the [[Council of Peers]] arrived at the Headmasters' base of operations to observe them while Arcana was working on ways to boost the firepower of six of the Autobots' weapons. This visit was cut short when [[Lord Zarak]] sent a plea for help. However, this was a trap set by Zarak and the Decepticons, and Brainstorm and the other Headmasters were captured. {{storylink|Love and Steel!|Love and Steel!}} Though Zarak used Arcana's technology to become a Headmaster himself, he realized, as he slowly succumbed to madness, that as long as the Autobots and Decepticons remained on Nebulos, it was doomed to war. So he released Arcana and the others, and both factions fled the planet. {{storylink|Brothers in Armor!!|Brothers in Armor!!}}

After Brainstorm oversaw the reconstruction of [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] into a larger form, Arcana (with some dubious assistance from Stylor) was able to triangulate the source of an Autobot distress call sent from [[Earth]]. Again Arcana formed Brainstorm's head, and the Headmasters traveled to the planet's surface. {{storylink|Trial by Fire!|Trial by Fire!}}
The oldest and wisest of the Nebulan rebels, he and [[Firebolt]] attempted to treat [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel Witwicky]] when the youngster was injured by [[Snapdragon]] during a fight. They were able to stabilise Daniel, but not enough that he could survive without life support machinery. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 1}} When the Headmaster project was put into action, he selected Brainstorm as his bonding partner, finding the Autobot to have refreshing ideas despite his undisciplined mind. The Headmasters tested themselves against [[Hive (G1)|Hive]] machines, with Arcana and Brainstorm successfully taking one out. Once the machines had all been destroyed, he worried that the Hive would swiftly discover their actions, but Gort was too exhilarated to care.

After the Autobot Headmasters easily bested the Decepticons in battle, the Decepticons teamed up with the Hive as Headmasters and [[Targetmaster]]s in order to tip the odds in their favour. Though the Autobots and rebels soon found themselves outclassed, Arcana and Brainstorm were able to scan Nightstick and steal the Targetmaster technology for Autobot use. {{storylink|The Rebirth, Part 2}} Traveling to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] with the Autobots, there Arcana and [[Gort]] modified [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s rocket engine, reversing its polarity so that a new [[Golden Age]] could dawn on the world.
==Synopsis==
[[Image:BMEndgame3 Optimus Megatron begin fight.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Round one. FIGHT!]]
As [[Optimus Primal|Optimus]] lies defeated, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] stands gloating over his nemesis. To add insult to injury, Megatron has taken a new body... Primal's Optimal body, minus the [[Alternate mode|beast mode]]. And, to make it just right, Megatron then adds the [[Spark|sparks]] of the [[Maximal|Maximals]] to the [[spark containment chamber]]. Enraged, Optimus fights back, but Megatron punches him through the wall to the outside of the [[Grand Mal|big floating head]]. Optimus manages to get in a few more shots, but stops sees the sparkless bodies of [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]]. Megatron takes a moment to rub it in, then attacks.

Primal flees through the city scape, flying a merry little chase, until he reaches a power generator storage area. As Megatron temporarily loses track of his prey, Optimus comes up from behind and destroys several generators. Optimus barely manages to escape the inferno, as Megatron's left arm is thrown out of the flames. After Primal makes a bad pun, Megatron emerges. As Primal jumps into a nearby river, he dives, only to have Megatron follow him in and shot a hole in the ground, causing them to sink into a whirlpool.

As Optimus wakes up, he realizes he is in the [[Vector Sigma Chamber|chamber]] of [[Vector Sigma|the Oracle]]. However, the [[technorganic orchard]] has been completely destroyed. Worse for Primal, he sees [[Rattrap]] and [[Botanica]]'s sparkless bodies, lying on the ground, with their hands streched toward each other. Megatron then arrives, and takes him to the surface.

[[Image:BMEndgame3 Sparks released.jpg|right|thumb|200px]]
Heading toward the [[Council Citadel]], Megatron activates a throne built into the Citadel to appear, then opens the spark chamber, absorbing the sparks and preparing to ascend to supplant the [[Allspark|Matrix]] and achieve [[Primus|Godhood]]. As the sparks enter his body, Megatron grows in size. Primal tries to talk, saying that each spark is but a part of the Matrix and that together, they add to its totality. Megatron then activates the [[Key to Vector Sigma]], to be used against the [[organic core]]. However, Megatron cannot fully activate the Oracle, as he and Primal are linked. Megatron then severs the link, and Primal fears that he has failed.

[[Image:The Fall NNNNNOOOOOOO.JPG|left|180px|thumb|So Megatron spends half the episode flying around the planet with Primal and he falls to his death?]]
However, the sparks of his comrades speak to him, inspiring him on. Shooting a beam at Megatron's throne, vines extend and grab Megatron's arms. Primal then tries to push him into the core. However, Megatron grabs hold of Optimus, who merely shoots off Megatron's fingers to sever the vine, allowing them both to fall into the core. As they plummet, Primal bids Megatron farewell. Upon impact with the core, both Optimus and Megatron [[The many deaths of Optimus Prime|die]] in a flash of light. From space, a bright light rises, then begins to cover the surface of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].

[[Image:Maximals endofBMac.JPG|right|180px|thumb|Isn't this show over yet?!?]]
Waking up, the Maximals find themselves on a technorganic world, which they realize is Cybertron. Rattrap is somewhat worried, then Botanica appears, and he jumps into her arms. As Silverbolt sweeps Blackarachnia off her feet, [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]] appears as a tiny, [[technorganic]] wasp, pissed that he's been screwed over again. Then, the Oracle shows [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] a vision of Optimus Primal's spark, flying away, telling him to "transform, and transcend". As it fades, Cheetor mutters that he understands. In the distance, the freed Transformers, their sparks once again in bodies, run over the horizon, ready to assume control of the newly technorganic Cybertron.
:— Great. That makes one of us.

==Notes==
===Technical/animation glitches===
* The freed Transformers that appear at the end of the episode have pretty weird running animations. They are running forward, but their legs are moving as if they're running sideways.
* The first time Megatron uses his jet mode, his park is colored blue instead of red.

===Continuity errors===
* When Megatron blasts Optimus out of the Spark Chamber room, the deactivated body of Thrust is seen right next to those of Silverbolt and Blackarachnia. The problem with this is that Silverbolt and Blackarachnia were deactivated ''outside'' of the base, whereas Thrust was deactivated by Cheetor inside the anti-gravity engine room in the previous episode. Though that doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility that Megatron's drones moved the empty shells.

===Transformers references===
*While in his vehicle modes, Megatron stores his spark in his cockpit. This is the same place that Primal stored the original [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime's]] spark during [[Optimal Situation]].
*Megatron uses all of Optimal Optimus's modes (minus his removed beast mode) during this episode, arguably with greater efficiency than Primal did.
*When calling the sparks to him, Megatron says "[[til all are one|let us all become one]]!"

===Other notes===
* "Transform and ''transcend''"? Was that a hint at the [[Transtech|transcendent technomorph]] idea that would have followed had it not been cancelled?
*The Oracle makes contact with Cheetor towards the end of the episode. This is later played on in the comics, where later stories would establish Cheetor as a [[Matrix Templar]] alongside [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus]] and [[Snarl (BM)|Snarl]].
