In the distant past, the All Spark Cube created a race of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of Cybertron. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the All Spark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

Mixmaster was among the very first of these new beings, one of several "builders" who would construct a harvester when a suitable sun had been found. Once built, the device would drain the energy of these stars, thus replenishing the All Spark. Defiance issue 4 It is assumed that at some point during the civil war on Cybertron, he sided with Megatron, the new protege of Mixmaster's only surviving ancient master, The Fallen.
Revenge of the Fallen movie
After the All Spark shard was retrieved from NEST's secure bunker at Diego Garcia, Long Haul, Rampage, Mixmaster, Scalpel, Ravage and another Constructicon secreted themselves aboard the Bayos freighter heading towards the North Atlantic. Once the ship passed over the Laurentian Abyss, the Decepticons jumped overboard and dived down to where Megatron's broken body lay. Scalpel ordered the death of the smallest Constructicon to rebuild Megatron, an request that Mixmaster and the others obliged with. Soon, Megatron was reborn!

Some time later, Mixmaster and another Constructicon with the same body-type were present during the climactic battle in Egypt between the Autobot/NEST forces and The Fallen's Decepticons. Mixmaster and several other Constructicons waited in a quarry in their construction vehicle disguises until the humans Seymour Simmons, Leo Spitz and their Autobot guardians Skids and Mudflap approached. The Constructicons combined into the mighty Devastator and attacked. Elsewhere, the other Mixmaster fought against the NEST forces in the Egyptian town near the great ruins of the pyramids, using his cannon emplacement mode to cause serious problems, until the ex-Decepticon Jetfire arrived to slice him in half and crush his torso. Meanwhile, Devastator had shrugged off the Autobot twins and was busy demolishing the Great Pyramid of Giza when Simmons called upon the United States Navy to attack Devastator. The U.S.S. Kidd fired her experimental railgun, smashing one of his arms to pieces and destroying Devastator. Revenge of the Fallen (film)
:Rather annoyingly, all Mixmasters are misassembled along the arm that holds the front of the cab during transformation. The instructions have the blue hinged tab as facing the opposite direction from the way the toy is actually assembled, which hinders formation of both robot and cannon modes. Normally this would be relatively easy to fix by driving the pin that holds it out and flipping it, but the pin in question is different from normal - it is entirely ridged, like a screw with no head, which makes driving it out enormously hard. In addition, judging by the stock photos, the toy might also be misassembled on the instructions, meaning that the part to be flipped isn't the blue hinge, but the gray part to which it and the cab are connected. Changing either makes proper transformation possible. However, the stock photos also show the robot's legs mis-transformed, with the screw-holes on the hips pointing forward; the instructions have it the right way around, but it's easy to miss.

:On top of all that, the final transformation picture of the cannon mode shows the truck cab's front bumper facing upwards, whereas all the steps leading up to that point have the entire cab pointing down.

The bumper being in the position the final version shows can either be done using the hinge configuration out of the box or by reversing the gray section noted above. Geez, Hasbro.

Before the war, Sideways was a simple courier, not exactly a career demanding massive levels of courage. This means that in the battle against the Autobots, Sideways prefers to team up with larger Decepticons. This way, his target-friendly companion takes all the heat! In fact, he generally shuns combat entirely. He's not a courageous fellow. But when he absolutely must face the enemy, he eagerly deploys the spinning saw blades on his arms. He was a sleek Audi R8.

Sideways was hiding out in Shanghai when NEST came to investigate a possible Decepticon insurgence. While the soldiers and their Autobot allies were busy fighting off Demolishor, Sideways attempted to make his getaway. He was not entirely undetected, however, as Lennox sent out Arcee and the twins in pursuit. The twins quickly fell out of the chase and Sideways was also able to fight off Arcee after crashing directly through a building. Sideways didn't get far, and eventually met his end when Sideswipe engaged in pursuit, transformed, and bisected Sideways as he attempted to flee. Revenge of the Fallen (film)
**Japanese ID number: RD-05

:Deluxe-Class Sideways features Automorph action during the conversion from car to robot mode. When the front bumper is pressed, his front pair of wheels automatically flip underneath the hood. There is also some Mech Alive: you can see internal gears moving in his fore-arms when moving his arms, as well as a turning disk on each of his elbow. On his right arm is a spinning "saw" blade. He is probably the least film-accurate toy to date (that doesn't fall in a lesser size-class or different toy-line), but that doesn't make him any less awesome.

:Unlike the other on-screen characters in Revenge of the Fallen who turn into consumer vehicles, Sideways' vehicle mode is merely an approximation of an Audi R8 and is not an accurate replica. This is because the toy vehicle, lacking Audi signage, is unlicensed. This doesn't explain why all versions of Deluxe class Sideways (hand-painted prototypes, test shots and production toys) are missing the black front lid, roof and rear hood seen on Sideways toys of other price points, and the real car. However, all of the toys are missing the unique silver stripes on top of the black areas seen on the APR-tuned Audi R8, which was the car used in the movie.

:Yet another victim of late mold changes rampant among the 2008-2009 financial crisis, Sideways appears to have had a hinged thumb on his left hand in Hasbro stock photos whereas this is a solid section molded on to the arm on the final toy. Also, Sideways' windshield underside has two notches added that are not in any early photos nor the instructions. These notches are there ostensibly to more securely connect to Sideways' hood.

:This mold was retooled into the Deluxe class version of Revenge of the Fallen Dead End.

:Magna Missile Sideways' robot mode has the entire sides of the car becoming his arms, making this toy even more similar to Barricade than Sideway's movie CG and Deluxe class toy robot design. Like most of the Sideways toys and merchandise (bar the Deluxe class figure), he features screen-accurate black paint on his vehicle front lid, roof and rear hood.
He has rotational articulation at both shoulders and extremely limited neck articulation. Curiously, he holds a chainsaw-like blade in his hand, rather than it being integrated into wheel-kibble on his wrist.

Notes
*Sideways's fate doesn't shine the most favorable light on the Autobots. He was never shown engaging in any hostilities, he was simply RUNNING FOR HIS FRIGGIN' LIFE from Autobots who don't think twice about CUTTING HIM IN HALF FOR SIMPLY BEING THERE. Sideways's toy bio only makes the situation worse, revealing him to be a courier who avoids combat (though his role in the game seems to refute this, as he destroys many Autobots in the early missions and is shown to be a competent fighter).
