Mikaela learned how to fix cars from her father, a long-time car thief. When he couldn't find a babysitter, he'd bring young Mikaela along, and she learned his trade. She hides her automotive knowledge from her boyfriends, for fear that they will be insecure around a girl who knows more about cars than they do. She is also afraid of being thought "shallow," to which Sam awkwardly replies that he thinks that there is "more than meets the eye...with...you." <br />

When [[Sector Seven]] forcibly detain Mikaela and Sam's family, [[Reggie Simmons|Agent Simmons]] reveals that she has a police record and threatened her father's upcoming parole hearing. After the [[Autobot]]s rescue the pair, she confides to Sam that she has a record because she refused to betray her father. Sector Seven soon recapture both teenagers (along with Bumblebee) and are brought to [[Hoover Dam]].
