During the second season of the [[Generation 1 (television series)|Generation 1]] cartoon, a series of public service announcements (or "PSA"s) were produced starring characters from the Transformers. These PSAs were almost exact duplicates of versions done featuring characters from [[G.I. Joe]], which were inevitably the more memorable of the two. Each PSA ended with one of the troubled kids spouting "Now I know!" The featured Transformer would then follow it up with the infamous catch-phrase, "And knowing is half the battle!"

There were a total of 5 PSAs produced, each with a different lesson to be learned.

*"Don't run away from home" featuring [[Bumblebee]].
*"Don't steal cars" featuring [[Tracks]].
*"Don't bike at night without reflectors" featuring [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]].
*"Don't boat without a lifejacket" featuring [[Seaspray]].
*"Don't jump to conclusions about people" featuring [[Powerglide]].

These PSAs were never aired, however. They remained largely unseen, until they were added as bonus content to the [[Kid Rhino]]s Generation 1 Season 3 part 1 DVD set, then later to [[Transformers (Melbourne House)|''Transformers'' PlayStation 2 game]] by [[Melbourne House]]. They were also made available on [[Madman Entertainment|Madman Entertainment's]]Generation 1 part 6 DVD box set.

In the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|''Generation 1'' cartoon]] (and subsequently in the [[Beast Wars (cartoon)|''Beast Wars'' cartoon]]), '''Teletraan I''' is the name of the semi-sentient computer that runs the [[Autobot]]s' spaceship/base. (This ship was called [[Ark|The Ark]] in the [[Generation 1 (Marvel comic)|Generation 1 comic]] and in ''Beast Wars'', but was never called by name in the cartoon.)

Teletraan I has extensive communications abilities, and can monitor Earth's television and radio broadcasts to search for news that may be of interest to the Autobots. It also operates the [[Sky Spy]], and was responsible for rebuilding and reactivating all the Transformers aboard the Ark in 1984.

In the G1 comics, the Ark's computer was referred to by name only once, in issue #1, where it was called '''Auntie'''. This usage was retained in the UK comics run, where Auntie was given an holographic personification.

A computer called Teletraan I apparently exists/existed in the [[Robots in Disguise (cartoon)|''Robots in Disguise'']] cartoon continuity as well.

Teletraan I proved to be quite a capable mechanism for keeping the Autobots organised and up-to-date. It only has a few flaws, such as being unable to tell Autobots and Decepticons apart (it repaired everyone aboard when the Ark reactivated in 1984). Unsurprisingly for a computer belonging to a group of sentient robots, its verbal interface was very advanced.

Teletraan I was quite likely destroyed when [[Trypticon]] crumbled [[Mt. Saint Hillary|the volcano]] surrounding the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] in 2005.

Its link, if any, with the [[Teletraan II]] computer is unknown.

[[T-AI]] was said to be the daughter of Teletraan I (who was never seen in the ''RiD'' universe).

==Spelling / Pronunciation==

For many years, most Transformers fans spelled the computer's name with only one 'a', and often with a digit "1" instead of a Roman numeral "I". However, in recent years copies of original production documents from the cartoon have come into the hands of fans. In these original documents the name is almost always spelled with two a's and a Roman numeral.

In the ''Beast Wars'' series, initially the voice actors gave a new reading of the word, sounding a bit like "tele-tron". Perhaps in response to dissatisfaction among fans, in the final episode of the series ([[Nemesis, Part 2]]), [[Rattrap|Rattrap]] corrects [[Blackarachnia|Blackarachnia]]'s "tron" pronunciation in an annoyed tone of voice. (To which Blackarachnia replies "What''ever''!")

Prior to the Ark leaving Cybertron Grapple (along with Smokescreen, Tracks, Hoist and Skids) had his memories recorded onto crystals. They were transported in this form on the Ark when it crashed, and revived in 1985 in new bodies on Earth.

While the other newly revived Autobots were sent out to learn more about Earth, Grapple was sidelined. Optimus Prime had a very special building project for Grapple, he would be building a brand new Transformer to guard the ark.

So Grapple built [[Omega_Supreme_(G1) | Omega Supreme]]. On his own.

Chip and [[Carly]] never appeared in the same episode during the entire US run.

Chip has a remarkably advanced (or at least ridiculously expensive) desktop computer for 1984. It contains among other things, a 16 Million color monitor (Chip's view of the Decepticons was no different than Prowl's), a microphone, dial up networking, speakers, and a soundcard that could interpret Prowl's speech. Maybe he's friends with [[Ethan Zachary]].

Chip once tore a floppy disk apart with '' his bare hands''.

Chip is able to survive acid rain, is able to stand (despite being wheelchair bound), and once saved the world by getting Thrust to shoot Teletraan 1.

He once told a group of Autobots that, "No one is really disabled if they believe in themselves." If any human was an illustration of this, it's Chip Chase.
