Synopsis
A gazelle-like beast watches Optimus Primal swing from tree to tree in a mysterious forest, following a trail of floating Sparks towards their nexus, the Allspark. Suddenly, the Allspark vanishes, and Primal is suddenly restrained by vines. As he watches, the placid forest disappears, the trees and grass replaced by buildings and steel. Before him, the face of Megatron laughs triumphantly as the organic vines become technological.

Optimus awakes, shaken. The dream is revealed to be an Oracle-induced vision. Cheetor explains that he was worried about his leader, as Primal was yelling and fearful. Primal rebukes him, saying that they should leave him alone no matter how worried they are. With Primal back in the Oracle, Cheetor takes over. Explaining to the Maximals that the Sparks of the Vehicon generals are subverted Maximal sparks, he tells them that they must extract the sparks somehow and reformat them into other technorganic Maximals to help them accomplish their goal (whatever that may be).

Cheetor suggests going after Tankor first, as he is slower then the others (in both speed and mentality). Blackarachnia suggests going after Thrust (for obvious reasons). However, she is the minority, so Tankor wins out. Cheetor splits them into two groups: Nightscream and Blackarachnia will distract Thrust and Jetstorm, while he and Rattrap will (hopefully) extract Tankor's spark and place it in a new body.

The three Generals are entrenched at a spaceport, supervising work. Tankor is coordinating the loading of a spacecraft, Jetstorm supervises the defense from the sky, and Thrust... is doing something important too. Probably.

Nightscream distracts the two latter Generals by destroying a building, prompting Jetstorm to give chase to the bat. Nightscream manages to escape and drains the energon from Jetstorm's body, weakening the Vehicon. Blackarachnia tries to talk to Thrust about his past identity, and he begins to experience flashbacks of prehistoric Earth, seeing "Optimal" Optimus, Rhinox, Cheetor, and Blackarachnia (all in their final incarnations) looking at him.

At the docks, Rattrap distracts Tankor by throwing a bomb at him, irritating him enough to give chase. Cheetor transforms to robot mode and leaps from Drone to Drone as Tankor fires at him. Rattrap interfaces with a crane and knocks Tankor away into some crates. Rattrap then attempts to interface with his mind. After some effort he finally manages to access Tankor's past memories and break his own amnesia.

Rattrap discovers that Megatron broke free of the Shuttle in transwarp space, where he was sucked away, and remarks that "that was the last of him." Eventually, the team returned to Cybertron and was immediately shot down by orbiting satellites.

Rattrap takes a breather from watching these records and wonders why they all seem to be from his point of view. He then plugs back into Tankor's brain. He sees Cheetor (in his Transmetal 2 form) and Primal (in "Optimal" configuration) escaping from tank drones. But the drones fire canisters that explode and release a green gas that envelops the Maximals.

Rattrap watches the Transmetals revert to their pre-Transmetal beast modes, while Silverbolt remains in the same form but lies on the ground helplessly. Stranger, though, is that Rattrap sees himself reverting as well. He wonders why this is, if these are his own memories. But then he sees his reflection in an approaching tank drone, and the mirrored face is Rhinox's. Which means that Tankor is Rhinox!

As Thrust and Blackarachnia talk, Jetstorm (now strengthened) arrives, buries Nightscream under fallen rubble, and accuses Thrust of fraternizing with the "enemy". Thrust denies this, and Jetstorm puts pressure on him to remove Blackarachnia's spark. Grudgingly, Thrust shoots her, but is tackled by Nightscream before he gets a chance to extract her spark. Thrust and Nightscream fight, eventually detonating a nearby tank, causing Nightscream to become pinned under some bars. As the Maximal watches helplessly, Jetstorm extracts Blackarachnia's spark.

Notes
* Technically, this would be the first appearance of Rhinox since his disappearance in Beast Machines, albeit from Tankor's unlocked memories.
* While the Maximals ponder which Vehicon to attempt to free first, their images appear on a screen along with Cybertronix text saying "we the unwilling are led by the unknowing to do the impossible for the ungrateful," which is a quote from Mother Teresa.

Animation/technical errors
*When grappling with Optimus after his dream, Cheetor's feet clip into the floor.
*When Thrust shows up during Nightscream and Blackarachnia's distraction, he's misrepresented by one of his drones. (Note the hands. Thrust's are yellow, drones' are purple.)

Continuity errors
*We never discover what the Tank Drones are loading onto the spacecraft or why. Sure seems to be important, though.
*Although the Maximals' Transmetal modes seem to be powerful enough to injure and occasionally kill other sentient Cybertronians, and their vehicle forms seem to be extremely fast, there seems to be no evidence of the Maximals putting up a fight against the Vehicons, nor evidence of them using vehicle modes to escape.
*Not so much an error, but certainly an ambiguity, is that the nature of the green gas and its relationship to the virus are unclear at best. Those who were "devolved" (probably better put as "de-Transmetallized") were also spared the immediate paralytic effect of the virus. But Silverbolt was one of the fully-paralyzed victims, despite the fact that he did have Transmetal qualities (as evidenced by his immunity to the Metal Hunter's weapon). Perhaps, as a Fuzor with no previous body upgrades, he simply wasn't Transmetal enough to resist the virus. Ultimately, there are no clear answers.
*Blackarachnia isn't seen escaping the Vehicons, though she is briefly seen aboard the shuttle. It is likely that she immediately fled underground after the Maximals run away (as indicated by the first episode), but not before being hit by the virus.
:—Cheetor, mastering the obvious.

Synopsis
Megatron rebukes his Vehicon generals for failing to destroy the Maximals, refusing to accept failure; he sends them forth with promises of rewards to whichever one captures the Maximals.

Optimus Primal contemplates the images of Rhinox and Silverbolt and vows to find them. His meditation is interrupted when he senses the presence of a Spark; the team goes out to find it. During the search, Rattrap beaks into a secure laboratory and discovers the transformation inhibitor virus which Megatron used... and a counter-virus as well, a transformation enhancer. Rattrap swipes the enhancer while Cheetor's back is turned.

While Thrust and Jetstorm squabble, Tankor manages to find the Maximals, who elude him by reverting to beast mode... until Rattrap shows up, able to transform at last thanks to the enhancer. This alerts Tankor, of course, who attacks the team. Rattrap finds he's unable to control his transformations, as he continually changes between robot and beast mode, including some odd intermediate forms as well.

Tankor manages to trap the Maximals under a metal dome. Thrust and Jetstorm arrive and fight Tankor for the right to bring in the captive Maximals; the distraction allows the Maximals escape from the dome, but an explosion knocks out all the Transformers present, leaving only the durable Tankor standing.

At the Citadel, Megatron gloats to the captured Maximals, while Tankor demands his reward: "freedom" via the removal of his spark. Rattrap's continual transformations strain his bonds to the breaking point, freeing him; he quickly releases the others. During the ensuing fight, Megatron loses control and breaks free of his control harness; Primal talks directly to Tankor's Spark, compelling him to do what is right. After a moment of confusion, Tankor blasts open the door so the Maximals can escape, and leaves with them.

Restored to his harness, Megatron interfaces directly with Tankor's CPU, deleting the last 20 cycles of his memory. Thus Tankor suddenly attacks the Maximals again as they travel underground; Megatron blocks Primal's attempts to speak to Tankor's Spark again. The Maximals trip up Tankor as he's preparing to fire; the cannon backblast sends him flying upwards through Cybertron's sublevels, only to crash back down to the surface atop a startled Thrust and Jetstorm.

Primal explains to the other Maximals that he sensed something familiar about Tankor's Spark... but then it was gone.
Synopsis
A fleet of Vehicon Tank Drones roll towards the Cybertronian Archives. A hiding Blackarachnia watches in horror as the tanks open fire, seemingly without provocation, on a statue of Optimus Prime holding a pair of Golden Disks. The tanks continue their barrage on the Archive center itself as Blackarachnia runs back to the rest of the hiding Maximals, who are there searching for clues to what happened to the missing Cybertronian population. Rattrap makes it out of the Archives, revealing that he's found... absolutely nothing. The Archives have been deleted in their entirety.

Optimus howls in rage, while a spying Megatron chuckles to himself that he's starting history over; everything prior to his reign is now simply a rumor. Inside Megatron's control chamber, a Diagnostic Drone assures him that he has been "purged" of whatever organic traces remained in him that caused his outbreak into beast mode in the previous episode. More Tank Drones appear to attack the Maximals, and Optimus orders yet another retreat. During the battle, Blackarachnia is knocked out by a blast and has a vision of a beautiful sunset-lit Amazon forest, falling into a pit, and being saved by a shadowy silhouette of Silverbolt.

In the waking world, Cheetor is carrying the woozy Blackarachnia away from the battle while Optimus draws the majority of the tank fire. Rather than simply taking cover behind a building, he climbs straight up one while dodging more shots, and the accumulated damage causes the building to topple on the Tank Drone fleet, destroying almost all of them while Optimus leaps to safety. (Optimus planned it that way. Seriously.)

Megatron is so enraged at this turn of events that he loses all control and again reverts to his dragon form, disconnecting from the control armor. He becomes further enraged when he realizes he still hasn't been cured of his beastial tendencies and takes it out on the Diagnostic Drone with some fire breath. Collecting himself and returning to robot form, he ponders why his elite army of drones is still unable to capture four rogue Maximals. The only reasonable answer is simply "free will," so, Megatron pulls out three sparks from an enormous bank of stored sparks...

Back at the Maximal hideout, Optimus chews out the rest of the Maximals for their extremely sloppy battle performance. Blackarachnia has another vision of Silverbolt while pretending to listen to Optimus' angry lecture. Afterwards she decides to sneak off to the Central Space Port, and Rattrap has decided to tag along with her. Before Rattrap can get her to explain why she's out there in the first place, they are attacked by three Vehicons. Unfortunately, these three are no Drones—each Vehicon has a spark of their own! They are Jetstorm, a wisecracking Aerodrone General, Thrust, a smoldering Cycle Drone General, and Tankor, a Tank Drone General, whose only distinguishable personality traits are being very angry and stupid.

The three Vehicons pretty much blow up everything around Rattrap and Blackarachnia, completely outclassing them (as newly-introduced Transformers typically do). Blackarachnia reverts to Beast Mode and she and Rattrap scurry off. Neither of them yet realize it, but doing so saves them—the Vehicons are unable to detect them on radar while in Beast Mode. Getting inside the Space Port control building, Blackarachnia accesses the aerospace records, finding the records of the Autobot shuttle they came to Cybertron on. She discovers that the ship was shot down by Cybertron's own automated defense systems and that there were six of them on the ship, though their memories of the missing two Maximals are hazy. Blackarachnia then plans to get to the ship itself to find its own backed-up data files.

The Vehicons again attack, having locked onto Blackarachnia's Maximal signature, and she and Rattrap are again forced to flee, with Blackarachnia heading for the Autobot Shuttle and Rattrap simply heading home (he's had enough of being shot at for one day). Rattrap finds out (by happy accident) that the Vehicons are unable to track him while he is in Beast Mode. He scuttles off to warn Blackarachnia. Megatron decides to call off the Vehicon attack once he realizes where Blackarachnia is headed, so he can tap into her mind when she accesses the Autobot ship's computer and find the Maximal base through her.

Rattrap warns her of this as well, and the two are forced to destroy the shuttle computer to prevent Megatron from finding out the location of their hideout. The Vehicons resume their attack, and Optimus Primal and Cheetor save the day, Batman-style, by crashing through a skylight and fending off the Vehicons long enough to get out of there before the rest of the Autobot Shuttle blows up. Optimus is, in a word, steamed that his teammates endangered themselves needlessly and got their only chance at easy answers destroyed, but nothing can be done about it now, and they all run back to their hideout.
"How is this possible? My battle drones are models of technological perfection. They possess superior firepower and manoeuvrability, and yet they are continually defeated by a small pack of lowly beasts. Why?"<br />

Notes
Technical/animation glitches
*Glitch

Continuity errors
* Optimus Primal seems very insistent on Blackarachnia reverting back to beast mode despite not knowing the reason why she should until much later in the episode.
* Why would a Diagnostic Drone be so grossly inaccurate when he told Megatron that his organic purging was complete? He even chalks up the mistake to "random residual biological—", right before being blasted by Megatron's extremely biological beast mode.
* "Four million years of Cybertron history?" Is Megatron for real? Shockwave spent that long just sitting around waiting for the original Megatron to call while the latter was in stasis lock aboard the Ark! Obviously, given that fact, Cybertron is a lot older than Megatron makes it out to be.

Transformers references
*A giant statue of Optimus Prime holding two Golden Disks stands in front of the Cybertron Archives.

*When Blackarachnia logs into the ship's computer, the animation models for Rhinox and Silverbolt's head are briefly seen.

Real-world references
*Jetstorm refers to Rattrap and Blackarachnia as "Beasties", a reference to the Canadian name for Beast Wars.

Trivia
* While Megatron is looking at computer screens, text in the Predacon version of the Cybertronix language appears. Among the messages are such gems as "these flowers taste funny," "we are the mcanimators from mcmainframe," "smoke some ganja," and "if you can read this seek help."
* Though he says it much less frequently than in Beast Wars, this episode marks the first time Megatron utters "Yesssss," though in a much less hammy, more sinister manner than before.
* The animators avoid directly showing Megatron's unveiled Robot Mode out of its control harness—in the previous episode, we don't even see him transform, in this episode, any clear shot of it is obscured either by fast action or back-lighting. We do, however, see that his "cloak" is made up of his wings that would ordinarily arch out of his back in robot mode.
* Tankor, Jetstorm and Thrust's personality traits are the exact opposites of the characters whose sparks they possess. Instead of being kind of dense and chivalrous like Silverbolt, Jetstorm is sarcastic and sociopathic. Instead of being a gentle genius, Tankor's a violent idiot. And Thrust is slick and cool, instead of being... well... Waspinator.
*Since it's already clear that the Maximals are amnesiac, Rattrap's claim that they would remember their missing team members is a little inaccurate (but, then again, they did remember each other on the previous episodes).

Quotes
"How is this possible? My battle drones are models of technological perfection. They possess superior firepower and manoeuvrability, and yet they are continually defeated by a small pack of lowly beasts. Why?"<br />
"Free will?"<br />
"Hmm, interesting notion."
:—Megatron and the Diagnotic Drone debate the recent losses.
"I failed my people once. I will not fail them again."
:—Optimus. Who is wrong. On both counts.

"Three mindless drones, shouldn't be a problem."<br />
"Only three things wrong with that little theory: One, we're not drones, two, we're not mindless, and three, problem's my middle name."

"This is Captain Jetstorm speaking. Please feel free to move about the tarmac, and flee for your miserable little life!"
"They blew us out of the sky?"<br />
"Yes, stranding all six of us."<br />
"Why, those lousy— six?! Get real, Webs—if there were six of us then why don't we remember the other two?"
:—Blackarachnia and Rattrap learn that their memories have been tampered with more than they realise.

"Well, well, well. Your situation exactly matches your location: TERMINAL!"

"Now just stick to beast mode and those Vehicon goons will never find us! ...Unless they happen to be standing right here in front of us."
:—Rattraps plan has one minor flaw.

:Supreme Commander is a rank used through-out all eras of Japanese fiction and some English fiction.

During Generation 1, the Supreme Commander (総司令官 Sōshireikan) was the absolute leader of the Autobots and, at first, sole bearer of the Matrix of Leadership. Later, Autobots were appointed the rank of Supreme Commander without having the Matrix passed down to them.

The Supreme Commander rank can be considered the Autobot version of the Decepticon rank of Emperor of Destruction.

By the era of the Beast Wars, the rank of Supreme Commander was appointed to high-ranking Maximal generals, usually of Convoy status. The task of ruling over the Maximal race as a whole was the job of the Maximal Elders.

autobot
