:Scourge is a Predacon Decepticon from the Robots in Disguise continuity family.

A protoform scanning mishap resulted in a Decepticon protoform attaining attributes of Optimus Prime yet retaining the Decepticon programming. This protoform became Scourge. Scourge is arguably Megatron's second in command, leading the new Decepticon forces, a much more effective unit than Sky-Byte's Predacons.

He is a ruthless and cunning warrior who contains all of Optimus Prime's strengths and skill, but none of his compassion and mercy. He's also a very ambitious warrior, with plans to dethrone Megatron!

Scourge's greatest strength is also his weakness—his temper. Fearless and furious, he charges into battle wildly hacking his broadsword as his trailer combat deck launches missile barrages overhead. Yet his rage also makes him impatient, petulant, and easily provoked; it also scares the heck out of his subordinates.

Naturally, Sky-Byte sees Scourge as a threat on just about every level. For once, he's right.

The robot who came to be named Scourge was originally one of a crew of six Autobots sent to Earth to reactivate the legendary Autobot battle station, Fortress Maximus. As leader of the expedition, Scourge was equipped with the ability to detect the unique energy signatures of the O-Parts, the Cybertronian components that held the key to reawakening Maximus. However, Scourge never had the opportunity to use that ability in the service of the Autobots, when the team's craft malfunctioned and crashed on Earth in the mid-20th century. Having been in protoform-state with stasis pods for the duration of their voyage, the six Autobots were entombed in their crashed ship.

In the early days of the 21st century, archaeologist and energy expert Doctor Kenneth Onishi's work eventually led him to find the various links in the chain of Fortress Maximus—he located the fortress itself beneath Metro City, mapped the location of the O-Parts, and discovered the location of the crashed Autobot spaceship. However, when the evil Megatron came to Earth with the intent of harnessing Maximus's power, he captured Onishi, and through mental scans, discerned the location of the Autobots' ship. Stealing the six protoforms, Megatron took them to a nearby military base to scan vehicle modes for them, infusing them with a part of his own spark energy to turn them to the side of evil. The first five became the Commandos, but when Megatron targeted a tanker truck to scan as the alternate mode of the final protoform, Optimus Prime leapt into action in order to save the truck's human driver, and as a result, the tanker, Prime and the human were all scanned. With an infusion of Megatron's spark energy to complete the concoction, Scourge was born, emerging from his pod as a dark twin of Optimus Prime, who proved that Megatron's programming had over-ridden any Autobot goodness within him. Appointing himself leader of the new "Decepticons", he quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with. The Decepticons

To prove the effectiveness of the new troops, Scourge led them on a mission to attack Sherman Dam and made short work of the Autobot Brothers, tossing them into the lake behind the dam. Once the dam was mined with bombs, he attempted to detonate it, only to find that the bombs had been tampered with—Sky-Byte and the Predacons, annoyed at being pushed down in rank by the new arrivals, had taken control of the bombs in order to prove their own effectiveness to Megatron. The arrival of more Autobots in the form of Optimus and Team Bullet Train caused Megatron to call off the mission with only minor damage to the dam. Commandos

The next mission saw Scourge and the Commandos on guard duty, perhaps as a punishment for their previous failed mission, while the Predacon trio dug under a volcano. Scourge and Sky-Byte both fought Optimus when the Autobot leader arrived with the Spy Changers, although the shark appeared to regard Scourge as just as valid a target. When a flow of lava was unleashed, Scourge unleashed a Barrage Attack on the Spy Changers who were attempting to stop it, little caring that Sky-Byte and the Predacons were in the blast area. His amusement when the lava soon chased the Predacons into the water was almost palpable. Volcano

After Movor was shot into orbit, Scourge grew steadily impatient with the shuttle's hopeless attempts to guide the rest of the Decepticons to the Autobot base and threatened much bodily injury. Movor was tricked by the Autobots into leading the Decepticons into a trap. While Scourge grappled with Optimus, Movor attempted to help by firing on Optimus from space, but only succeeded in hitting Scourge, who promised to turn the shuttle into "metal confetti". Attack from Outer Space

As part of a new ploy, Scourge interrupted Sky-Byte's attack on an oil rig and chased off the Predacon. Seeing this, Optimus Prime believed that the Decepticons had begun to experience a resurgence of their Autobot sparks. Scourge was disgruntled with Mega-Octane's plan, believing lies and deceit to be unworthy of a warrior, but went along with it. The Decepticons successfully gave the appearance of changing sides to the Autobots and underwent various tests such as cleaning a forest, with Scourge holding his temper barely in check the whole time. The appearance of Sky-Byte (who'd been kept ignorant of the plan) gave Scourge an opportunity to blow off some steam, but his attack endangered the life of a passerby. When Optimus told him to stand down, Scourge exploded and ended up giving the whole plan away, forcing the Decepticons to retreat under the full force of Optimus' rage. The Test (episode)

Scourge presented the increasingly impatient Megatron with a new plan which involved attacking power plants. The Autobots were hampered by the misguided assistance of Sky-Byte, but seemed to repel most of the Decepticon assaults. The Fish Test Scourge and the Decepticons subsequently butted in on one of Sky-Byte's plans, stealing a disk supposedly containing the plans to the Autobots' Global Space Bridge which the Predacons were trying to obtain. Unfortunately it was an Autobot trick, and both the Decepticons and Predacons ended up in a sewer. Wedge's Short Fuse

Annoyed by the Autobots constant escapes through the space bridge, Scourge had Ro-Tor track one of the Build Team to the space bridge control center. The Decepticons broke in and Scourge sabotaged the controls, resulting in the space bridge sending any Autobots who used it to a random destination. Once chaos was established, Scourge and Megatron attacked the North Energy Research Center, but were unable to achieve much before the Autobots repaired the space bridge and arrived to chase them off. Landfill (episode)

Scourge and Ruination attempted to intercept Optimus on his way to taking the O-Parts to Sky-Byte, who had taken some humans as hostage. Ruination was swiftly disabled by the Autobot, but Scourge was only wounded and trailed Optimus to the site of the CGA Tower attack. He again fought Optimus in an attempt to take the O-Parts, but his threatened attack on the tower itself was thwarted by the Build Team. Optimus was able to chase Scourge off so that the tower could be saved. Sky-Byte Saves the Day

After a semi-successful attempt to raid an oil refinery, Scourge and Mega-Octane leaked a transmission ordering Sky-Byte to look for O-Parts in order to lead the Autobots into an ambush. However instead of the expected Autobots, they were confronted by Ultra Magnus. They attempted to fight the newly-arrived Autobot warrior, but retreated after Optimus Prime arrived to lend a hand. Ultra Magnus (episode) Back at base, they watched Movor's surveillance of Ultra Magnus beating down Optimus, and Megatron demanded of Scourge to know why one Autobot had done what the Decepticons had failed to do so many times. They were able to track Sky-Byte to the island on which Optimus was recuperating after the battle and mount an attack, but were chased off once again when Optimus and Ultra Magnus merged into Omega Prime. Ultra Magnus: Forced Fusion!

The Decepticons interrupted another of Sky-Byte's plans in order to kidnap the Autobot Brothers. With the three brothers as hostages, the Decepticons led Optimus into a trap and fought the Autobot leader savagely. They were again seen off after Magnus rescued the brothers. The Two Faces of Ultra Magnus Sensing an opportunity, Scourge met with Ultra Magnus to try to persuade the Autobot to join him against both Optimus Prime and Megatron. When Magnus turned him down, Scourge and the Commandos turned on him, only to end up fighting the three Autobot Brothers instead. Power to Burn!

With information extracted from Doctor Onishi, Scourge and the Decepticons were able to find a huge cavern beneath Metro City housing some ruins. Although the Autobots were on hand to try to fight them off, Scourge attempted to approach the ruins, and his proximity caused Fortress Maximus to rise. Fortress Maximus (episode) The exposure to the battle station's energies awakened memories of his original Autobot mission to find and reactivate Maximus and, twisted by Megatron's reprogramming, he became determined to take control of the huge Autobot in order to take over leadership of the Decepticon/Predacon forces and eventually the Universe. With Ruination fighting the Autobots as a distraction, Scourge set out to find Maximus, fighting with Optimus Prime and eventually breaking into the cavern to find that Maximus was gone. Upon retreating, Scourge also discovered that Sky-Byte had freed Doctor Onishi, but covered for him with Megatron so that the Predacon would owe him. Koji Gets His Wish

As the race began to locate the remaining O-Parts, Scourge rediscovered his ability to sense them, part of his original mission as an Autobot. The attempts by Scourge and the Decepticons to stop the Autobots finding the O-Part were hampered by Sky-Byte's misguided attempts to find the O-Parts himself, and eventually the Autobots were able to collect them all. A Friendly Contest Movor was soon able to locate the Autobots in the Sahara, and Megatron himself led the Predacons and Decepticons there to take the Orb of Sigma from them. With the loss of Megatron, Scourge and the Decepticons retreated. Peril from the Past

With Megatron gone, Scourge took command of the Megastar, much to the Predacons' dismay. They were able to successfully capture Cerebros from the Autobots, and Scourge was able to use the Autobot part of his bio-signature to dupe the robot into activating Maximus. However he soon found he was unable to control the giant robot, who ran amok until the Autobots' human ally, Koji, was able to stop it. Additionally the arrival of Galvatron, Megatron's reborn form, during the battle, also meant that Scourge had lost his new leadership. Maximus Emerges Realizing that humans could control Maximus, Scourge then amplified the human part of his bio-signature and succeeded in taking control of the giant, until he was overridden by a large group of human children. The Human Element Seeking to use Koji himself for the process, a case of mistaken identity resulted in the Decepticons capturing his best friend, Karl, instead, but when Karl proved able to activate Fortress Maximus, Scourge dropped his façade of loyalty and ordered Maximus to destroy Galvatron. Mistaken Identity

The revelation of his betrayal brought about a punishment most severe—Scourge and the Decepticons had their autonomy stripped by Galvatron, turned once again into loyal servants so absolutely dedicated to their leader that they continued to do his will even after he attempted to kill them with molten lava as a belated punishment. Galvatron's Revenge With Galvatron's ultimate defeat at the hands of Omega Prime, Scourge was captured and taken aboard Fortress Maximus for imprisonment with the other villains. The Final Battle (RID)
Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?
Sent by Megatron to help Sky-Byte steal an experimental nuclear generator from a facility in Arizona, he and the Predacon bickered at length, until the arrival of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. After an unsuccessful attempt to engage Magnus in combat, during which he was slammed against the building, he realised that the Autobots' concern for the humans would be their downfall. Threatening the nearest human with his sword, Scourge commanded the two Autobots to surrender.

When Sky-Byte protested that this wasn't part of the mission, Scourge accused him of becoming soft. Magnus and Prime, after a brief discussion, agreed to surrender. Scourge raised his sword to strike them down, however he was interrupted by the Predacons making their escape with the nuclear generator. The distraction allowed Prime and Magnus to simultaneously punch Scourge in the face, and he and his Decepticons set out in pursuit of the Predacons. Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?
:The Hasbro release of Black Convoy, sold exclusively at Toys"R"Us. Specimens sold at retail were very similar to Black Convoy. Notable changes were that red translucent plastic replaces all the pink; the stickers are now a flat light gray with Decepticon logos instead of glossy silver with "negative-Autobot" logos; the sword was blunted; and the discs were remolded to make them blank, removing the faction symbol. The only change in paint is that Scourge has Decepticon sigils tampographed on his doors, while lacking Black Convoy's teal "stripe" along the cab's nose. The license plate sticker on the tanker now states "SCOURGE D-012".

:An early wave of Scourges sold on the Toys"R"Us website had the American-styled stickers but retained the Japanese cab paint applications and pink plastic.
:This version of the mold was later reused by Sonokong as Car Robots Black Convoy in the South Korean market, with Hasbro's paint decos and darker red plastic, but with Black Convoy's stickers, as well as for Takara's reissue of Laser Optimus Prime.

Mega-Octane was originally part of a small Autobot crew sent to Earth to reactivate the legendary Autobot battle station, Fortress Maximus. As they were stored in a protoform state, the Autobots were unable to prevent their spaceship from malfunctioning and crashing somewhere in the United States in the mid-20th century. The ship was later discovered by Doctor Onishi during his work as an archaeologist and, later still, the information was obtained by Megatron through scans of the doctor's mind. Megatron was able to steal the six Autobot protoforms and take them to a nearby military base, where he infused them with his own spark energy, turning them into Decepticons. The first of the Decepticons to be reformatted was Mega-Octane. Although Optimus Prime optimistically tried to welcome Mega-Octane to Earth, he was rebuffed and the Decepticon set about covering the Predacons as they scanned new forms for the rest of the Decepticons. Although Mega-Octane regarded himself as the leader, Scourge, the last to be reformatted, asserted his own leadership over the five Commandos. The Decepticons

On their first mission, the Decepticons mounted an attack on Sherman Dam, abseiling up the side of it in order to plant pulsar bombs. When Scourge attempted to detonate the bombs, they found that Sky-Byte and the Predacons had tampered with them, forcing them to attempt to destroy the dam through other means. The arrival of Team Bullet Train resulted in Mega-Octane ordering the Commandos to combine into Ruination for the first time, although the huge robot was soon defeated by Rail Racer and the Autobot Brothers. Commandos

The next mission saw Scourge and the Commandos on guard duty, perhaps as a punishment for their previous failed mission, while the Predacon trio dug under a volcano. The Commandos were relegated to against the Spy Changers when they arrived with Optimus Prime. Volcano In an attempt to restore themselves in Megatron's eyes, they hatched a new plan to launch Movor into space to try to track the Autobots to their lair. With mounting irritation, Mega-Octane led his team from target to target, none of them the Autobot base, until they were eventually led into a trap. Attack from Outer Space

Mega-Octane soon came up with a new plan to find the Autobot base — the Decepticons would pretend to switch sides. He met with Optimus Prime under a white flag, claiming that the Decepticons had rediscovered their Autobot nature and no longer followed Megatron. The Autobot brothers subjected the six Decepticons to test after test to prove their loyalty, with Mega-Octane barely keeping Scourge's temper in check. Unfortunately, right on the verge of success, Scourge gave the plan away and the Decepticons were forced to retreat. The Test (episode)

A new plan was hatched which involved attacking power plants. The Autobots were hampered by the misguided assistance of Sky-Byte, but seemed to repel most of the Decepticon assaults. The Fish Test The Decepticons subsequently butted in on one of Sky-Byte's plans, stealing a disk supposedly containing the plans to the Autobots' Global Space Bridge which the Predacons were trying to obtain. Unfortunately it was an Autobot trick, and both the Decepticons and Predacons ended up in a sewer. Wedge's Short Fuse

Annoyed by the Autobots' constant escapes through the Global Space Bridge, the Decepticons tracked one of the Build Team to the space bridge control center, allowing them to break in and sabotage the controls, sending any Autobots using the space bridge to a random destination. Mega-Octane remained in the control center while Scourge joined Megatron at the North Energy Research Center, and the other Commandos caused havoc in other parts of the city to draw the Autobots away. When the Autobots discovered the sabotage, the Commandos attempted to prevent them reaching the control center but were fought off. Landfill (episode)

The Commandos made another attempt to please Megatron, stealing energy from a power plant, only to have it swiped by the Build Team while they were busy fighting Rail Racer. Annoyed, the Decepticons began to randomly attack construction vehicles in order to draw the Build Team out. Eventually the Build Team learned of the attacks and faced the Commandos, defeating Ruination. A Test of Metal

The Decepticons again attempted to curry favour with Megatron by intercepting Optimus Prime to obtain the O-Parts, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Sky-Byte Saves the Day After a semi-successful attempt to raid an oil refinery, Scourge and Mega-Octane leaked a transmission ordering Sky-Byte to look for O-Parts in order to lead the Autobots into an ambush. Instead of the expected Autobots, they were confronted by Ultra Magnus. They attempted to fight the newly-arrived Autobot, but retreated after Optimus Prime arrived to lend a hand. Ultra Magnus (episode) Back at base, they watched Movor's surveillance of Ultra Magnus beating down Optimus, and Megatron demanded of them to know why one Autobot had done what the Decepticons had failed to do.

The Two Faces of Ultra Magnus Seeing an opportunity, Scourge met with Ultra Magnus to persuade the Autobot to join him against both Optimus Prime and Megatron. When Magnus turned him down, Scourge and the Commandos turned on him, only to end up fighting the three Autobot Brothers instead. Power to Burn!

With information extracted from Doctor Onishi, the Decepticons were led to venture beneath Metro City, following the tunnels to find a huge underground cavern housing Fortress Maximus. After fighting the Autobots, Maximus' defences forced them to retreat. Fortress Maximus (episode) While Scourge undertook a mission to find Maximus, the Commandos kept Rail Racer busy as Ruination. Koji Gets His Wish

The Decepticons attempted unsuccessfully to prevent the Autobots from finding the rest of the O-Parts A Friendly Contest and were led by Megatron to the Sahara, where the Autobots were looking for the Orb of Sigma. Despite breaching the pyramid in which the Orb was stored, they were unable to prevent the Autobots from making off with it, and Megatron himself was lost. Peril from the Past

With Scourge now leading, the Decepticons tracked the Autobots to a temple, where Cerebros was recovered. Mega-Octane warned Scourge that they might not be able to command Cerebros, but Scourge was confident that the Autobot portion of his bio-signature would be sufficient. Sure enough, Cerebros led them to Maximus' hiding place and activated the giant robot. Once activated, Scourge was unable to control Maximus, and the Decepticons were forced to retreat. Maximus Emerges

With the return of Megatron with a new form and name, Galvatron, Scourge made a few more attempts to control Fortress Maximus, eventually giving away the fact that he was betraying Galvatron. Furious, Galvatron reprogrammed absolute loyalty into all six of the Decepticons and put them under Sky-Byte's command. They were soon led into a trap. Surprise Attack! Despite their proven loyalty, Galvatron sent the Decepticons into the Global Space Bridge after the Autobots, then flooding the tunnel with molten lava to kill two birds with one stone. Galvatron's Revenge The Decepticons, like the Autobots, survived but contributed little to the ensuing battle. After Galvatron's eventual defeat at the hands of Omega Prime, the Decepticons were taken aboard Fortress Maximus to the asteroid prison colony. The Final Battle (RID)
Robots in Disguise
*Mega-Octane (Deluxe, 2000/2001)
**Japanese ID number: D-010
**Accessories: Rifle, chestplate, Ruination parts (head, chestplate, left & right fists, left & right footplates)

: A retool of the Generation 1 Onslaught toy, Mega-Octane transforms into a flatbed truck and trailer with a twin-barreled cannon. The twin-barreled cannon has a hole to store his large rifle in vehicle/base mode as well as his retooled ramp (which can also be held in his hand as a shield) in robot or combined mode. The backpack also retains the smaller hole from the Generation 2 tooling of the toy. You can use that to store the small weapons from the other members of Ruination if you want. Why not? If you don't want to store Mega-Octane's gun in the post hole you can also use the rectangular pegs on the backpack to hold (upside down) the rifle by its targeting sight. The Hasbro version also has the channeling in the twin-barreled cannon filled in, probably for aesthetic reasons.

:Mega-Octane's gun was also retooled so that one of the holes on the side of the rifle goes right through and the other has been partially filled. This was done to allow Armorhide and Movor's pistols to peg into the gun for a super mode. Of course the holes were the right size to do this on the original Sonic stun-gun... so... uhh... at least this time it's an official feature.

: As the toy uses the Scramble City style of connection, he can form the torso to any combination of similar robots, though naturally he is normally the torso to the combined robot Ruination. He also came with the combiner kibble to Ruination.

: He was first released as part of the Takara Car Robots line in 2000. In 2001, Hasbro released the toy as part of the Robots in Disguise series. There are several very noteworthy differences between the two. The Takara version uses a very light olive-green base plastic, mustard-gold plastic for the robot chest, cannons and combiner kibble, plus the black-and-gold camouflage is sometimes done as metallic decals, one of which has the old Combatron symbol on it. The Hasbro version uses a much darker green plastic, silver-gray chest/cannon/kibble plastic, muddy-tan-and-black camo (in the same pattern), uses no decals (leaving those areas blank), and has a Decepticon insignia on the truck roof. Additionally, Hasbro shortened the length of Mega-Octane's rifle, and all subsequent releases of this toy from Hasbro or Takara/Sonokong used this version of the tooling.

: This mold was also used to make Great Cannon.
: In Japan, Mega-Octane/Dolrailer was also made available as part of a complete team multi-pack with his teammates Armorhide, Movor, Rollbar and Ro-Tor. All toys were identical to their individual Japanese releases, but the set only came with a bio card for the combined form.
*Ruination (Ultra, 2003)

: The entire Commando team was redecoed in various shades of gray with "urban camo" patterns as part of a Wal-Mart exclusive gift set, oddly released well after the end of the Robots in Disguise line. Movor was also slightly retooled, blunting his nosecone significantly.
It came out at the same time as five other Wal-Mart Transformers exclusives, which led to a glut. Ruination seemed a particularly slow mover in this batch.
a gigantic hand!

Synopsis
A trio of fire vehicles head towards a house fire. But instead of following them, we linger on a house they pass, the house of Koji Onishi.

Koji is awakened by his alarm clock, realizing he's late. He falls out of bed in his haste, grumbling that this always happens. He throws on his robe and rushes out the television. He wants to catch his father on TV!

While it's the middle of the night in Japan, it's day in America, and New York is hosting the first International Scientific Symposium, for the world's most brilliant minds in all their fields to meet and share their research to benefit the whole human race. The first speaker is Dr. Onishi, noted archaeologist and the world's foremost expert on energy and natural resources.

Dr. Onishi believes that the greatest danger facing the Earth today is the inefficient and improper use of energy. However, he may have to eat his words because just then, a building explodes, raining debris upon the crowds celebrating the opening ceremonies, and Megatron appears!

The Predacons, Megatron explains, want energy. And since Dr. Onishi is the world's foremost expert on different energy sources, they want him!

Koji tries to call his father on his cell phone, but the call is cut off as Dr. Onishi tries to tell Koji something important. Instead, a mysterious robot appears on the phone, telling Koji to meet him at Metro Park, and they'll rescue his father.

Back at the house fire, hearing that the fire is now under control, one of the firetrucks pulls away under its own power, without a driver! Minutes later, it's this empty firetruck that arrives to pick up Koji.

Once Koji is inside the firetruck, Optimus Prime explains that he's a robot from the planet Cybertron. He swears Koji to secrecy before showing him the secret of the Global Space Bridge, the high-speed transport network that will allow them to drive from Japan to New York in minutes.

Arriving in New York, the firetruck lets Koji out and rams Megatron. To Koji's surprise, the firetruck then transforms into Optimus Prime, who begins to fight the Predacon. Seeing that his friend is a robot just like Megatron, Koji fears they're the same. Optimus Prime explains that though they may seem the same, Autobots and Predacons could not be more different.

Megatron summons the trio of Predacons, Slapper, Gas Skunk and Dark Scream to handle Optimus while he goes after Dr. Onishi.

Optimus activates T-AI back at the base, who initiates a Battle Protocol, summoning the Autobot Brothers, who're in the same quadrant.

X-Brawn is serving as the car for a woman named Kelly, who is driving to New York for breakfast. He apologizes, but he's gonna need to make this trip on his own—and fires an ejection seat.

Side Burn is doing what he does best—flirting with a red sports car—when his brother Prowl arrives to chew him out. They join X-Brawn and make their way to the Global Space Bridge.

X-Brawn emerges just in time to save Koji from a crumbling building. He and his brothers split up, Prowl fighting Gas Skunk, Side Burn fighting Dark Scream, and X-Brawn against Slapper. Optimus slips away in the fray to fight Megatron.

Megatron transforms into his bat mode and attacks Optimus Prime, greatly weakening the Autobot Leader. Koji emerges, calling Megatron a coward, which distracts him long enough for Optimus to target him with the weapons in his trailer.

Megatron tries (half-heartedly) to appeal to Optimus Prime's logical side. They could share the planet's resources. But Prime refuses to see the Earth transformed into a lifeless husk, as Megatron has done to so many other worlds.

Megatron transforms to jet mode, finally grabbing Doctor Onishi in the process, and escapes. The Predacon trio rushes to follow, still pursued by the seeking missile Side Burn launched after Dark Scream.

Koji is left holding his father's broken glasses. Optimus Prime tells Koji he will keep the promise to rescue his father—they will get him back.
Differences with Car Robots
* In Car Robots, the pomp and pageantry featured in this episode was a millennium celebration attended by "representatives from the world's government, business, science and entertainment". As the Robots in Disguise version aired a year later, this dated reference was reimagined (a bit infeasibly) as a scientific symposium.
* In line with the different subject matter of the celebration, Doctor Onishi talks about the improper use of energy, where Car Robots simply had him briefly hope for peace in the new millennium before Megatron came crashing onto the scene.
* As Megatron comes bursting through the building, Robots in Disguise cuts out a bunch of slow reaction shots from Onishi and the crowd.
* Robots in Disguise adds a CGI POV shot from Megatron as he sweeps the crowd searching for Onishi. Immediately after, some footage is looped to give Megatron and Onishi some dialogue between each other.
* In Car Robots, Optimus Prime has to ask Koji for his name when he contacts him via his communicator. In Robots in Disguise, he already knows it.
*In Robots in Disguise, Megatron has come specifically looking for Onishi, whereas in Car Robots, he announces that he intends to capture all the assembled scholars.
*Robots in Disguise adds a brief scene of Optimus Prime visually appearing on one of T-AI's monitors to repeat his request for back-up. Immediately thereafter, T-AI's Autobot Brothers roll-call is also extended to describe the brothers' personalities. In Car Robots, the read-outs on her screens feature their Japanese toy ID numbers (C-002, C-003 and C-004); Robots in Disguise replaces them with the characters' names.
*In Car Robots, X-Brawn confuses Slapper by pretending to think the skyscrapers are mountains, and that he can't fight his urge to climb them (though the enjoyment he gets from scaling them is genuine). In Robots in Disguise, he just claims he has an errand to run, and tells Slapper to "measure his tongue" while he's gone (which he actually does!).
*Robots in Disguise makes a habit of extending certain scenes and dialogue exchanges by looping and repeating select pieces of footage. In this episode, those scenes include:
**Doctor Onishi's speech
**Optimus Prime's explanation of the Global Space Bridge
**Koji screaming when Optimus ramps into the air
**Prowl tailgating Side Burn
**Side Burn's first line when the Autobot Brothers arrive at Prime's side

Animation or technical errors
* Koji claims that to get to New York from Metro City, Optimus would have to "drive across the Atlantic Ocean". Either Koji thinks they should take the long way around the planet, or that would place Metro City somewhere in Europe or Africa, which seems pretty solidly wrong. If it was in Japan, as it was in Car Robots (where it was the nonfictional Tokyo), then he'd need to drive across the Pacific. This is pretty much the dubbed show's only reference to Metro City's geographical location.
* Despite it being the middle of the day in New York, it's night where Kelly is, yet she believes she can drive to New York by breakfast—another artifact of Robots in Disguise, as Kelly is Japanese in Car Robots, and evidently at home in Japan, where it's night.

Transformers references
* Koji's alarm clock is shaped like the time-manipulating Maximal Heinrad from Beast Wars Neo. This is an in-joke, as Heinrad's toy was actually a functioning clock.
* The spunky kid sidekick's father is kidnapped by the bad guys. This is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last. Clearly, hanging out with giant warring robots is not good for the ol' family life.
* In a weird moment of toy accuracy, X-Brawn's head is visible on the driver's side of his vehicle mode.
*Optimus says the space bridge runs on transwarp cells

Real-world references
* While it goes unnamed, the symposium and Megatron's attack seem to take place outside the UN headquarters.

Trivia
* The producers also said it took them about 10 hours to figure out how to get the explanation for the Global Space Bridge into a form that would be contextually and grammatically correct, and brief enough to fit into the allotted time.
* It seems more than a little odd that Optimus would take the time to pick up Dr. Onishi's son and take him into the field of battle with him. Whatever the series, Autobots have no regard for child endangerment.
* This episode first aired September 8, 2001, shortly before terrorist attacks would render it (featuring collapsing buildings in New York) in bad taste. It later re-aired in an edited form. The UK DVD set has the original version.
* Though Megatron professes to kidnap Dr. Onishi for his expertise on energy, in actuality, it is later revealed in the series that he specifically abducted him for the knowledge he had amassed on Fortress Maximus. In Japan, Professor Onishi was an anthropologist rather than an energy scientist.
* Optimus Prime is Unit Six in the Metro City Fire Department. He promises to return to the station after his mission is done.
* Kelly, the ill-fated recurring character for Robots in Disguise, first appears here as X-Brawn's owner. She is never named onscreen—her name comes from a Robots in Disguise casting list shown online shortly before the series premiere.
* This is easily one of the most boring episodes of Robots in Disguise (to the point of being physically painful). So much so that even the dub's producers commented on it; there was a limit to how much they could do with such a boring episode. The entire episode takes place over a period of about 10 minutes, so very little actually... happens. For most of the second half, Megatron is walking down the street towards Dr. Onishi, who is about 100 yards away.
The Predacons were a laughing stock untill Megatron found a ship with six Autobot stasis pods (which were all sent to find Fortress Maximus 60 years before Megatron). Megatron took them to an army base which he had them scan army vehicles. An thus a new faction called The Decpeticons were born. This had a bad afect on the Predacons as Megatron perfered them over the Preds.
