==Synopsis==
On [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] in the year 2011, the [[space bridge]] suddenly reactivates, and [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] leads a force of Decepticons—including mysterious new recruits [[Weirdwolf]], [[Skullcruncher]] and [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]]—in an attack against the unsuspecting [[Autobot|Autobots]]. Caught unawares, the Autobots contact [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the Autobots in their secondary headquarters on the planet [[Athenia]], and Prime leads troops to aid in the battle on Cybertron. [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] theorises that the loss of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]'s energy has destabilised [[Vector Sigma]] and [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] deduces that the Decepticons have targeted the computer, intending to take control it, and through it, the planet.

Meanwhile, on Earth, the Autobots under [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]]'s command have received orders to join the conflict on Cybertron, but their way to the space bridge is barred by a Decepticon contingent led by [[Sixshot]], and he and Magnus square off. At the same time, [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] and [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] are pursued by [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] and manage to escape by tricking him into falling down a ravine. The arrival of the [[Trainbot|Trainbots]] tips things in the Autobots' favor, and they break off the fight to head for [[Autobot City]]; the pursuing Decepticons are dispatched by [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]], and the troops are carried through the space bridge aboard the Trainbots, while Wheelie and Daniel stowed away.

As the battle escalates and conditions worsen on Cybertron, [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] is reminded of the early days of the war when many Autobots fled the planet to escape the conflict. As if on cue, a mysterious light appears in the sky, approaching Cybertron—a light that [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] soon realises is not a star, but a star''ship''! *When the Decepticons emerge from the space bridge at the start of the episode, [[Hun-Gurrr]] is missing from the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]], [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] is missing from the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]] and both Divebomb and Headstrong are missing from the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]]. The two Predacons reappear later on, but the others don't, and Rippersnapper actually gives out orders to the team.
*Similarly, when the [[Technobot (G1)|Technobots]] appear, Strafe is missing, but when the angle switches, Scattershot has disappeared, and Strafe is in his place (just as ''Lightspeed'' issues orders to the team!).
*Perhaps in an attempt to outdo his brother (who appeared in two places at once in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''), Sideswipe is seen on both Athenia and Earth.

*This episode begins with a montage recapping the vague basics of Transformer history, covering their eons-long war, their migration to Earth, the death of Optimus Prime, the rise of Rodimus Prime and Megatron's recreation as Galvatron. The death of Prime is of particular note, as it shows him perishing in a fire-fight in front of [[Autobot Headquarters]], rather than accurately replicating his actual death from ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''. This was a bit of a continuity patch-job on the part of ''The Headmasters'', as the movie still hadn't reached Japan yet at this point, so the actual circumstances of Prime's death hadn't been chronicled outside of similarly vague explanations in the pages of ''[[TV Magazine]]''.
*Although he does not speak, Prowl appears quite prominently in a few scenes, despite his death in the movie. The fact that the movie had not yet been released in Japan at this point is often cited as a reason for this, but Prowl's name ''was'' included on the list of dead Autobots in the Japanese dub of "[[Dark Awakening]]", so they ''did'' know. The ''[[Alternators|Binaltech]]'' storyline [[Prowl II|seemed like it was going to explain this]], but got shunted off into its own alternate reality when it ended.
*Blitzwing is shown with the Decepticons, but he was banished from their ranks in "[[Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5]]". This previously occurred in "[[The Ultimate Weapon]]", and it will not be the last time that this occurs in ''The Headmasters''.

==Synopsis==
Using the advanced technology of planet [[Master (planet)|Master]], the [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] rebuild [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] as Soundblaster. His resurrection is timed to coincide with the creation of their latest weapon, the [[Madmachine]], which emits electronic-disrupting rays. In order to field test the Madmachine, [[Sixshot]] and [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] attack an oilfield, in order to draw out [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]], who is crippled by the Madmachine. Reports of this deadly new device soon reach [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]], who instructs the Autobot cassettes to investigate, but the loss of Blaster has left them dejected and unable to perform the task. The typically brash [[Autobot]] [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] don't look too kindly upon this dereliction of duty, and an argument ensues, but Rodimus calms everyone by revealing that [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] is preparing to use Master technology to recreate [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]]. The Autobots gather to watch Blaster's rebirth as Twincast.

Alive again and reunited with his cassettes, Twincast is immediately charged with investigating the Madmachine, and heads to Earth, where he sneaks into the Decepticons' headquarters under cover of a firefight between the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]] and [[Triple Changer|Triple Changers]]. Even as he discovers that the Madmachine is being sonically controlled by Soundblaster from [[Chaar]], the Madmachine and the Decepticon Headmasters are beamed to Cybertron, where they meet resistance from the Autobot Headmasters and [[Throttlebot|Throttlebots]]. Blasting his way through the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]], Twincast uses the Decepticons' [[space bridge]] to transport himself to Chaar. While his cassettes deal with their counterparts, Twincast destroys Soundblaster's sonic control and the Madmachine goes haywire, allowing it to be easily destroyed by the Autobots

*For much of this episode, Rodimus has black rings around his eyes. They appeared briefly in "[[Birth of the Fantastic Double Prime]]", too. They seem to have been added by the Japanese animators as a way of further distinguishing Rodimus from Hot Rod.
* When Arcee and the Headmasters are trying to stop the Cassettes from leaving, she is missing her Autobot insignia. When it comes back in the next shot, it's a Decepticon insignia instead.
*Following the appearance of Arcee's Decepticon insignia, as the shot moves to Rodimus Prime, his insignia has turned traitor as well.
*When the Aerialbots fly in, Slingshot is colored like Fireflight, and Fireflight is colored like Air Raid. Air Raid, however, is colored correctly.
*When the Combaticons form Bruticus, Bruticus is colored entirely like Onslaught.
*While attacking Mindwipe, Rollbar and Goldbug's colors are swapped.
*While Hook is trying to stop Twincast from boarding the Space Bridge, his helmet alternates between being completely white and completely green. In both instances, it should be black.

*Daniel's sudden concern appears to be random--the previous episode had him happily playing video games with Wheelie and never mentioning Blaster's demise at all, and now he's suddenly so depressed that all he can do is mope. The capriciousness of youth, perhaps?

With the conclusion of the first Japanese-exclusive ''Transformers'' [[franchise]], ''[[The Headmasters (cartoon)|The Headmasters]]'', head writer [[Masumi Kaneda]] felt that he had brought the story concepts introduced in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' to a conclusion, and sought to make a "fresh start" with ''Super-God Masterforce''. Whereas ''The Headmasters'' had featured the existing cast of the American animated series, and gradually introduced new characters as it progressed, ''Super-God Masterforce'' was, on the surface, almost entirely divorced from what had gone before, featuring only a cast of entirely new characters in a new scenario. Although links between ''Masterforce'' and the events and characters of ''The Headmasters'' were expanded upon in various other media and articles, the series itself is remarkably self-contained, to the point of frustration, with many important background aspects not fully divulged in the course of the broadcast series.

There is a very human-centric focus in ''Masterforce'', with the basic theme of the series being that "with the Masterforce, you too transform"—that human beings are to be responsible for the defence of their own planet. This resulted in the very ''different'' approach the series takes, which sees the figures released that year by [[Hasbro]] as [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] and [[Powermaster]]s reimagined as "[[Headmaster Junior]]s" and "[[Godmaster]]s"—human beings who connect to lifeless [[Transtector]] bodies and actually ''become'' Transformers themselves. In a similar thematic move, the Autobot Pretenders do not don exterior shells and pass themselves off as "giant humans," as in American fiction, but instead perform an ill-defined holistic transformation that actually alters them at a cellular level, shrinking them down into human forms.

For some inexplicable reason, this was the first Transformers cartoon to be shown in Russia, followed by the other Japanese cartoons (in the wrong order), which left many Russian children very confused as far as continuity goes.

==Storyline==
After the events of ''The Headmasters'', the [[Earth]] has been free of [[Transformer]]s for several years, until the emergence of the [[Decepticon]] [[Pretender]]s. This group of villains were pursued to Earth during the Stone Age by a group of Autobots led by [[Metalhawk]], and when both teams crash-landed on the planet, they used their special "Pretender" powers to adopt new disguises. Metalhawk and his Autobots took on the forms of human beings and began to live among the burgeoning humanity, guiding the evolution of their culture and society, while the Decepticons became monstrous creatures and tormented early man as "demons." Eventually, the Autobot Pretenders defeated the Decepticons and sealed them away, but as the series begins, they have been liberated from their prisons by the evil alien energy-being, [[Devil Z]], to play a role in his schemes.

With the return of the Decepticons, the Autobot Pretenders are forced to drop their disguises and take up arms once again, gaining allies in three young human children ([[Shūta Gō]], [[Cab]] and [[Minerva]]) who are imbued with the power of the "Masterforce" and bond with three Transtectors sent to Earth from the planet [[Master (planet)|Master]]. The Decepticons recruit their own Headmasters Juniors as well, and as the battles on Earth progress, the true objective of Devil Z's plan comes to light. The arrival of [[Mega]], [[Giga]], [[Buster (Masterforce)|Buster]] and [[Hydra (Masterforce)|Hydra]] heralds the quest for the "[[Godmaster]]s"—super-powerful lifeforms that are the perfect fusion of human and Transformer, able to manipulate [[Chōkon Power]]. With these four warriors on the side of the Decepticons, the Autobots must find Godmasters of their own, and succeed when they are joined by a young trucker named [[Ginrai]], who soon recruits three more Autobot Godmasters.

Incensed by this failure, Devil Z ups his plans by summoning [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]] (the newest incarnation of Decepticon leader Scorponok, who is busy leading the Decepticons against the Autobots out in space) to Earth. Discovering his plan, [[Grand Maximus]] races to Earth to inform the Autobots of BlackZarak's approach. Our heroes create [[Godbomber]], a drone that serves as an upgrade for Ginrai, enabling him to transform into "God Ginrai" and fight in space, allowing him to beat BlackZarak back.

The Autobot suffer a grave loss when the final Godmaster, [[Clouder|Doubleclouder]], is discovered and sides with the Decepticons, using his ability to adopt two robot forms to infiltrate the Autobots and destroy their headquarters. Without a base of operations, the Autobots are at a disadvantage when BlackZarak returns and merges with Devil Z to bring about the destruction of Mankind. As characters lose their humanity, change their alliances, and engage in final battles, everything comes down to a climactic duel between God Ginrai and BlackZarak atop the Matterhorn, where the Autobot hero must beat his opponent, or all life on Earth will be forfeit.
