Ravage
:Ravage is a Decepticon from the Revenge of the Fallen franchise in the live-action film continuity family.

Ravage specializes in infiltration. A frequent partner of Soundwave, he does the dirty work of the larger Decepticon. Ravage's body and armament are all dedicated to hitting the enemy before they even know what hit them. He can be orbitally inserted at fifteen times the speed of sound, spy inside highly secure locations using swarms of microcons, and generally ruin your day. He respects the danger humans present though, as they were the ones who managed to kill Megatron.

Perhaps due to his origin as reengineered Cybertronian wildlife, some doubt Ravage's sentience, and there is debate on the degree to which he is a distinct entity, rather than an extension of Soundwave's will. However, he's displayed guile, cunning, and split-second tactical thinking, making it hard for others to believe he does not have some innate intelligence. In reality, Ravage just considers the other Decepticons beneath him, and allows his eerie, silent ways and manner to alienate him from his comrades. Soundwave is the one exception: the two are kindred spirits, understanding each other's true nature and motives.
IDW movie prequel comics
Early in the war, Ravage joined Megatron's Decepticon malcontents in attacking Sentinel Prime and his archeological digs. However, Optimus Prime anticipated this move by the Decepticons and arrived on scene, literally on top of Ravage, to protect his mentor. Foundation issue 3

After the moon landing of 1969, Soundwave sent Ravage to gather agents to ensure a stop to human exploration of the Ark. Convergence chapter 4
The Veiled Threat
Many, many years later, Ravage made his way to Earth following the destruction of the AllSpark. After the crab spy successfully infiltrated NEST headquarters at Diego Garcia, it made its way back to the sea where Ravage was waiting to pick it up. The Veiled Threat

Ravage was dispatched to NEST's Scotland base to find, interrogate, and kill Skids and Mudflap before they could pass on information about the Decepticon plans. Easily breaking into one of the most secure bases on Earth, he went on to swiftly knock out Sideswipe and attempt to rip into the twins. While they were able to evade him, Ravage shrugged off any attack and finally cornered Mudflap, broadcasting Soundwave's demands to him.

This, however, was a trap the twins had set up, and Ravage found himself trapped in a simulated combat exercise. To escape, he faked unconsciousness and then snuck out the back when nobody was looking. But he made sure to bug the base before he left... Transformers Comic issue 2.4
When the twins temporarily pretended to defect, poor Ravage had to listen to them nattering throughout briefings. Not even his ominous growl would silence them! Transformers Comic issue 2.7
From his vantage point high in orbit above Earth, Ravage's master Soundwave located the last remaining shard of the AllSpark in a NEST holding facility on Diego Garcia, and dispatched Ravage to retrieve it. Launched from Soundwave's chest, Ravage plummeted through Earth's atmosphere in re-entry mode and impacted just off Diego Garcia's shore, bounding to land in the blink of an eye. Quickly and stealthily, the feline Decepticon knocked several of the base's security sensors offline to cover his approach, then proceeded to vomit a large quantity of small, metallic spheres down a ventilation shaft. Once inside the base, the spheres transformed and combined into "Reedman", who successfully stole the shard and returned to the surface to reunite with Ravage. As the human soldiers attempted stop Reedman, Ravage provided cover fire, killing several humans in the process. The pair then made their escape.

Having secured the shard, Ravage traveled to the Bayos, a human freighter carrying the Constructicons which was passing the area of the sea in which Megatron was buried. After diving over the side of the barge and reaching the bottom where Megatron's body rested, Ravage ejected the Doctor from a compartment in his chest. While the Constructicons began to tear apart "ze little one", Ravage was going for a swim, apparently enjoying the water, but quickly ended his little frolic when the Doctor demanded the shard. After the Doctor resurrected Megatron using the AllSpark shard, Ravage and the Constructicons swam up to the surface following their revived leader.

Some time later, Ravage joined the other Decepticons in searching for Sam Witwicky and the Matrix of Leadership amid some Egyptian ruins. The forces of NEST soon arrived, and battle broke out, complicating their search. Spotting Sam, Starscream instructed Rampage to release Ron and Judy Witwicky. Ravage jumped out of the Constructicon when he ejected the fleshlings, and went stalking. Bumblebee managed to get the jump on Rampage, and Ravage in turn jumped on Bumblebee's head, clawing off part of his battle helmet. Unfortunately for Ravage, Bumblebee still had plenty of fight left in him, and he promptly dispatched the killer kitty by tearing out Ravage's own goo-covered spine. Ouch. He even used the torn out spine to whip Rampage across the face. Double OuchRevenge of the Fallen (film)
IDW Transformers movie comics
Months after Ravage's death at the hands of Bumblebee, his reconstructed form was brought back on-line in an undisclosed location by a mysterious new master. Subsequently, Ravage appeared outside Guantanamo Bay, searching for a "new target". Ravage snuck in, found the remains of the appliancebots and appropriated them. Ravage lept into the ocean to escape the military, who had located him.

Ravage emerged on a beach near Air Force Base. Though he curled up on the ground to wait for further instructions from his unknown benefactor, he was once again discovered. Ravage destroyed several helicopters before being surrounded by soldiers and jeeps. To bolster his defensive, he unleashed Reedman, and although the smaller robot was eventually taken down, it provided the distraction needed to allow Ravage to escape into a petrochemical plant.

Deciding the relatively subtle approach wasn't working, officials at the White House asked the President of the United States for permission to level the plant. As the explosion engulfed the plant, Ravage tried to conceal himself beneath its foundation. Ravage's attempt to survive was mostly successful; his damaged form was still online, waiting in a pit beneath the rubble for new instructions. The remnants of the smuggled appliancebots reached out to him with streams of energy... Tales of the Fallen issue 5

Shortly after, Soundwave, disturbed by Ravage's reactivation, dispatched a quartet of minions (Buzzsaw, Rumble, Beastbox and Ratbat) to investigate. This soon erupted into a conflict with cleanup crews and Autobot reinforcements, which prompted Soundwave to intervene. Although the battle resulted in several casualities on both sides, Ravage was undisturbed. While the other Decepticons retreated, Buzzsaw stuck around to tend to Ravage. Nefarious issue 1 Buzzsaw managed to get Ravage operational, and the pair burst out of the ruins of the petrochemical plant, surprising an NSA team which was investigating the disaster zone. Soundwave ordered Ravage to find a quiet location. There Soundwave rendezvoused with him in order to give him a scan. Ravage subsequently accompanied Soundwave in going to the aid of a Decepticon team in Wendover, under attack by Autobot forces. He attacked Ironhide and was thrown aside. Nefarious issue 2

Following Soundwave's capture by the Autobots, Ravage took part in a rescue mission, however, when he was about to free Soundwave, Ingrid overrode his higher functions, and Ravage fled. Nefarious issue 3 Ravage returned to his new masters, the Initiative, however Soundwave tracked him and mounted an unsuccessful attack on the Initiative base. Nefarious issue 4 Soundwave returned, having teamed up with Autobot forces, to assault the base. He was able to regain control of Ravage and had his minion unleash Reedman in an attempt to stop Carter Newell from destroying all Transformer life on Earth. Nefarious issue 6

After the defeat of the Initiative, Ravage returned to the Decepticon fold and spent some time at their base in Namibia. Rising Storm issue 2 Soundwave later sent Ravage and his other minions to attack Arcee, Chromia and Elita-One when they discovered the cage holding Shockwave's "pet". Rising Storm issue 3 The battle ended with the Autobots setting off a massive bomb, though Soundwave got away unharmed, so perhaps Ravage did as well. Rising Storm issue 4
Notes
* Ravage and Soundwave were part of an early draft for Transformers. However, when Soundwave was changed to Blackout and the initial jungle setting was replaced with a desert, Ravage was changed to Scorponok.
* As with poor Scorponok, sources differed on how sentient Ravage was. Luckily for Ravage, Hasbro's website outright states him to be a sentient being.
*Whether through misinformation or to hide his identity, the Ravage deluxe figure shows up in the Wal-Mart computers as "TRA DLX WOLF". Of course, they're not the first to make this mistake. However when it scans at a register, it commonly comes up as "TRA MOV PANTHER".
*In the Revenge of the Fallen novelization, Ravage has a flying alternate mode. He flew out to the freighter where the four Constructicons were waiting and transformed on deck. While descending into the ocean, he was described as a sphere, so he might have two alternate modes. (His Burger King toy perhaps?)
* Despite having a red/orange eye in the movie, all of Ravage's toys and merchandise had a purple one until his Legends figure and the Sea Attack Ravage redeco.
* On his blog, Furman said that Ravage's spine-torn death was a late addition to the film... so late that IDW Publishing had already made Ravage a key part of their post-ROTF comics! Quick, to the Rewritemobile!
* Originally, Ravage was intended to also have an aquatic alternate mode, where he swam to Diego Garcia as a spike covered fish. The reason for dropping this was not stated.
*Ravage was in an early draft of The Reign of Starscream, but was dropped at Hasbro's request.

: Sea Attack Ravage is a redeco of Revenge of the Fallen Deluxe Class Recon Ravage, retaining the mold changes from the original Deluxe Class Ravage release. His color scheme is a combination of black and silver with red and yellow highlights. He also has chrome guns and an orange eye. This color scheme is supposed to recall his attack on Diego Garcia.
Obsidian and his consort Strika have fought for Cybertron in countless battles... and won them all. Though he is sophisticated and canny, able to concoct strategies with layers upon layers, his purpose is single-minded. He defends Cybertron.

There is some fine print. Whoever happens to be in charge, whether a benevolent or malevolent force, in his reasoning, is Cybertron. Once power changes hands, so does he. He is loyal only to the planet, and perhaps his consort Strika, not to any moral ideals. As his fellow Vehicon general Thrust has remarked, "If you're loyal to everybody, can you really be loyal to anybody?"... a question that has given Obsidian pause.

While he was pretending to be dumber-even-than-Tankor, his activation code (and, indeed, his entire vocabulary) was "obliterate". He dropped the word when the ruse was over.

In an alternate universe, Obsidian was a former Autobot who rose to overthrow Megatron and take over Cybertron, only to be abducted by Unicron to serve as his Minion.

Tired of the Maximals using his world as a playground and getting fed up with Thrust's inability to handle them, Megatron selected two Sparks to be his new generals. When Thrust first saw Obsidian and Strika, he remarked "Very nice, boss. Very very nice." However, the feeling wasn't mutual, as Thrust discovered when he started to inform the new guys of their enemies—and was batted away by Obsidian, bouncing off the wall and sliding to a halt at his "feet".

Obsidian was quick to act against the Maximals, ambushing Silverbolt and Nightscream with Strika. Screaming "Obliterate!" repeatedly, he pursued Silverbolt but was tackled by Optimus Primal, sending both crashing into the ground. When Optimus tried to reason with him, Obsidian merely fired at him and transformed, escaping into the city. He rendezvoused with Strika and let the Maximals into a trap, as hundred of drones modeled after the two generals surrounded them. Transforming to robot mode, Obsidian remarked "Although he took his name from a great leader, Optimus Primal never learned the first rule of warfare: NEVER underestimate your opponent." The Maximals were able to escape the trap, but found all of their escape routes blocked by drones, Rattrap surprised at the number of drones and Optimus realizing that it wasn't number but tactics; their new opponents were master strategists. Forced to barricade themselves inside the Counsel Citadel, Primal realized that they had been herded there, at which point Obsidian contacted him and offered the Maximals the chance to surrender themselves. Revealing who he and Strika were, Obsidian informed Optimus that "Megatron IS Cybertron. To defend one is to defend the other. And to betray Megatron is to invite death." Despite their advantage, Obsidian and Strika were unable to capture the Maximals due to Botanica's timely arrival, disrupting the drones' targeting systems and allowing the Maximals to escape. Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike

Obsidian's next major move was against Cheetor, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt. Sent to a shell yard by Megatron and told to wait for the Maximals (as Megatron had sent Optimus a flash about the Sparks and their possible locations, which of course was a trap), Obsidian attacked the trio, outgunning and outflanking them easily. However, a power core thrown by Cheetor was hit by a shot from one of Obsidian's drones even as he was desperately telling them to cease fire, causing a huge explosion that sent him and his drones flying away in a fiery shockwave. Sparkwar Pt. II: The Search

When Megatron began to enact his plan for the Sparks, Obsidian and Strika were stationed to watch over the ground and air around the BFH. While he didn't get to do much personally, Obsidian attempted to engage Savage/Noble in single combat, only to have one of his own drones smacked into him and then Strika thrown into him. Ouch. Sparkwar Pt. III: The Siege

After Megatron's seeming destruction, the generals were at a loss. Without a leader they had no purpose, and when Cheetor and Nightscream approached them with an offer to join the Maximals they accepted, much to Thrust's annoyance. A possessed Jet Drone suddenly attacked both the generals and the Maximals, destroying the drones that were present. Obsidian and Strika did not join Cheetor and Nightscream in the fight against the Jet Drone (wusses). Later, Optimus welcomed the two to the group and sent them to patrol the inside of the Grand Mal, where they unsuccessfully tried to stop Megatron's depolarized Spark from entering. After Megatron was re-polarized and bonded to a Diagnostic Drone, Obsidian and Strika seized him and made their escape, pledging their loyalty to evil once again. Spark of Darkness

The conflict came to a head when Megatron began an all-out attack on his former base, seeking to reclaim the Sparks. Obsidian fell victim to Rattrap's identity scrambler, destroying several of his own troops before realizing his mistake. He later returned to his main fleet that was attacking the BFH, but they were unable to penetrate the shields. That changed when Megatron found a device Rattrap used to send Botanica back to the surface—a shield harmonic device synchronized to the base's shields. Obsidian and Strika were then able to fire through the shields and destroy the base's drive units, sending it plummeting into the Citadel. Endgame Pt. I: The Downward Spiral

After repairing and placing his troops, Obsidian began a second attack on the Grand Mal with Strika and Thrust. Taking down the shields and defeating several Maximals, the trio were left with only Cheetor in their way. However, the Maximal led them into the engine room, where he brought the anti-gravity generators online and sent Obsidian and Strika into Cybertron's orbit. Endgame Pt. II: When Legends Fall

Universe: Featuring the Wreckers
Though marooned in orbit, Strika and Obsidian were otherwise undamaged and were able to serve Cybertron once more. When the Quintessons invaded technorganic Cybertron one week after the Great Reformatting, Obsidian rewired an orbiting monitoring station for combat, while Strika used its artillery to take down an impressive target. The Quintesson ship Paradigm was destroyed in low orbit over Polyhex. Strika and Obsidian turned their attentions to the planetary defense grid. Though they had faith in the Maximals below, as they had bested even them, the two still served the lofty goal of protecting Cybertron from invaders. Wreckers: Finale Part II
In a parallel universe, the Predacon Megatron "decimated" Cybertron's population by capturing their sparks, including the vaunted Autobot general Obsidian. (It is unknown whether this literally means he only got one-tenth of the Cybertronians.) When Megatron gave him a new, helicopter-based body, Obsidian hid his thirst for revenge behind a feigned loyalty. He conspired with the brute Tankor, eventually using the latter's raw strength to carry out Megatron's termination. The vain Obsidian, now an "ex-Autobot," supplanted the Predacon's rule with an iron-fisted tyranny of his own. With his enforcer Tankor at his side, he put down uprisings and held the planet in fear... until Unicron decided that such a mindset would serve his own purposes, and he pulled them out of their universe entirely.

Unicron, his ruined form trapped between dimensions, sought to revitalize himself by pitting abducted Transformers against each other within his own body, absorbing their energon radiation and, eventually, sparks. But Obsidian was spared this fate, instead overseeing the deathmatch arena along with Tankor, Razorclaw, Reptilion, and Striker. Silverbolt, one of the intended victims, recognized Obsidian. Obsidian confirmed the familiarity, but noted that in his and Tankor's own timeline, Silverbolt had "died screaming." Abduction (Notably, by this time Obsidian's allegiance had fully switched to "Decepticon," though it's unclear if this was before or after his coming under the thrall of Unicron.)

Two others from Silverbolt's party, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, were scheduled for an immediate duel within the Cauldron, and Obsidian tossed them their weapons. Sideswipe tried to turn on his captor, but his punch was repelled by Reptilion's machinery. As Sideswipe was punished, Obsidian reassured them that over time, all "remaining veneer of civilisation" would be stripped from them. For all his boasting and accomplishments, though, Obsidian still did a pretty crappy job of keeping Optimus Primal from freeing Silverbolt and dozens of other captives. He was no where to be seen as Optimus Primal battled Razorclaw, and showed up to pursue the fleeing captives, along with the other generals, only after they had left the Cauldron.

However, Blackarachnia and Shadow Striker opted to stay behind with the generals, as Unicron's influence had corrupted them. Obsidian and Tankor escorted Blackarachnia to Unicron's core, where she was reunited with Tarantulas. Escape (issue)

Much later, Optimus Primal waged one last desperate assault against Unicron, and his Children of Primus were able to defeat the Minions of Unicron. :A Basic-price point toy in the Beast Machines line, Obsidian transforms into a twin-rotor assault helicopter vaguely similar to an Osprey. His cockpit in helicopter mode is multi-jointed to allow it movement to look around, the Vehicons' toy aesthetic being "living vehicles". The cockpit's "eyes" further enhance the effect. The two rotor blades are pressure-launch projectiles. His nominal robot "flight" mode keeps his tail section together but curled up below him (as in the show), but the tail section can split up to form a pair of "normal" legs as well. His orange spark crystal is located on the robot mode's back.

Strika is one of the greatest generals in Cybertron's history, and the consort of Obsidian. She had her spark removed by Megatron, only to later have it replaced within a Vehicon body. She joined the ranks of the Vehicon generals, taking the place of Tankor as commander of heavy artillery.

While she was pretending to have all the brains of a calculator watch, her activation code (and, indeed, her entire vocabulary) was "terminate". She dropped the word when the ruse was over.

Like Obsidian, Strika wasn't given an alternate personality, as the previous Vehicon generals had. However, her primary directive was to protect Cybertron, but since Megatron was Cybertron now, her loyalty was misplaced. Built at the same time as Obsidian, Strika remained silent as Thrust admired the two new recruits (though she did give him a dirty look). Attacking a topside Silverbolt and Nightscream, she went after the bat when they split up, grounding him with cannon fire. Before she could crush him, though, Cheetor dropped into her party and Blackarachnia trapped her in a web, though it didn't hold for long under her attempts to escape. Cheetor tried to reason with her, but she turned and sped off, reuniting with Obsidian. When the Maximals cornered the two generals, the trap was sprung, as hundreds of drones surrounded the Maximals. Strika expressed smug amazement that the Maximals had fallen for her and Obsidian's "dumb generals" act, complete with faked battle cries/activation codes of "Terminate!" and "Obliterate!"

Forced to retreat, the Maximals attempted to escape into the sewers, but Strika's drones popped out from every manhole, cutting them off. After they'd barricaded themselves in the Citadel, Optimus Primal realized they had been herded there, at which point Obsidian contacted them and revealed himself and Strika. Only the timely intervention of Botanica saved the Maximals, her seeds disrupting the drones' targeting systems. Strika was upset to discover her side's scans of Botanica were drastically incomplete. With the Maximals gone, Strika returned with Obsidian to Megatron to accept their punishment for failure, but they were congratulated instead, having given Megatron time to formulate his plan for the sparks. Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike

When Optimus split his team to investigate a vision from the Oracle, Strika was waiting for Rattrap and Botanica at the Citadel. Ambushing the Maximals, she gave chase but temporarily lost them when they hid in a building. However, it didn't take long to locate them, and she mercilessly attacked Botanica while Rattrap was plugged into a holographic pleasure terminal. Disabling them, Strika prepared to administer the coup de grace to Botanica, but Rattrap intervened and plugged her into the terminal instead, leaving her admiring the beauty of an undamaged Cybertron. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt.

As Megatron prepared to enact his plan, Strika and Obsidian were assigned to guard the Grand Mal's exterior. When the Maximals attempted to enter the Grand Mal, Silverbolt, Cheetor and Nightscream caused some major problems for the two with Rattrap's signature-altering devices—until Strika used one of the devices to send feedback through the other units, allowing the Maximals to be detected. She then got thrown into Obsidian by Noble. Sparkwar Pt. III: The Siege

With Megatron's seeming destruction, Obsidian and Strika were at a loss. Offered a place with the Maximals by Cheetor, Strika was incredulous at the notion, but she and Obsidian accepted after a crazed mutant zombie thing tried to scrap her and everyone else present. When Megatron's crazed spark entered the Grand Mal, Obsidian and Strika moved to intercept. It wasn't too successful. However, when Megatron's spark was repolarized and bonded to a Diagnostic Drone, Strika and Obsidian seized him and vacated the premises, swearing their loyalty to Megatron once more. Spark of Darkness

Along with Obsidian and Thrust, Strika led the final assault on the Grand Mal, though she spent her time chasing Maximals rather than attacking the floating base (and chasing Thrust around for a while after Nightscream planted a device on her that made her see others as Maximals). Endgame Pt. I: The Downward Spiral

After making a massive assault on the downed fortress and taking out Blackarachnia personally, Strika, Obsidian and Thrust cornered Cheetor in the Grand Mal's engine room. However, the crafty cat activated the anti-gravity drive, sending Strika and Obsidian hurtling up into Cybertron's orbit. Endgame Pt. II: When Legends Fall
:Brainstorm is an Autobot Headmaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Brainstorm believes that all of society's problems can be resolved so long as ideas can be developed free of outside constraints. This is understandable, as Brainstorm is a never-ending font of ideas. Even when he isn't consciously working on one of his projects or even when he's in the middle of a fight, new ideas are the background noise of his mind. Brainstorm thinks so much, he sometimes causes his brain to overheat. He looks forward to a time when military demands no longer frame his creative output.

Brainstorm is at least partly responsible for developing the Headmaster process. It's sometimes hard to tell how much of it was his doing and how much was his Headmaster partner Arcana's, the two work together so seamlessly.
noteukonly

After Optimus Prime and his troops aboard the Ark went missing, Brainstorm was one of several under the leadership of Fortress Maximus. Their faction was mired in a seemingly endless war with a band of Decepticons led by Scorponok, in a struggle so pointless and self-perpetuating that Fortress Maximus decided to leave Cybertron and its war and settle on the peaceful planet Nebulos. Brainstorm followed Fortress Maximus's lead, building the Steelhaven and departing their war-torn home.

It would not be so easy. The Nebulans were xenophobic towards the strange robots which invaded their world, and after several missteps in communication, Fortress Maximus, Brainstorm, and a handful of others surrendered their heads as hopeful proof of their benevolence and compliance. Ring of Hate!

When the Decepticons arrived on Nebulos, Fortress Maximus and Brainstorm convinced Galen to attempt the creation of hybrid warriors through a bio-mechanical engineering process. An experimental surgeon named Arcana constructed the necessary equipment based on the Autobots' theories and underwent the process himself along with several other Nebulans, binary bonding with Brainstorm. Broken Glass!

During an adventure that happened at some unspecified point that was logically impossible given the circumstances, Brainstorm and the other Autobot Headmasters fought the Decepticon Headmasters while the Autobot Targetmasters were held captive by the Decepticons. Mindwipe hypnotized Brainstorm, causing him to crash into Hardhead, and in general, the Autobots put up a terrible fight. But Brainstorm refused to give up and abandon their captured comrades. The four attacked the Decepticons' Fortress of Despair and were overwhelmed, but because the Autobots learned to work together with their new Nebulan partners, they were able to rescue the Targetmasters. Worlds Apart!

The new Headmasters managed to drive off the Decepticons, but also inadvertently created a new "arms race", as the Decepticons later created Headmasters of their own, and both sides also implemented Targetmaster warriors as well. Fearing things could only get worse for Nebulos, Fortress Maximus and Galen took the excuse of an intercepted distress signal from Earth to abandon Nebulos and prevent the war from causing any further harm to the planet. Brothers in Armor!!

On the way to Earth, Brainstorm re-engineered Fortress Maximus to be larger and stronger than ever before. Then, he and Arcana managed to triangulate the Autobot signal to Mount St. Hilary. This led into their first battle with Scorponok's forces on Earth and to the death of Galen. Trial by Fire!

As the Steelhaven orbited the Earth, Brainstorm was kept busy building Goldbug a new body, repairing the injured Fortress Maximus and assisting in the creation of the Autobot Pretenders. Pretender to the Throne! Unfortunately, those projects used up most of the group's available resources and prevented the proper recreation of Optimus Prime. The project proceeded despite Brainstorm's accurate warnings of failure. Totaled!

Brainstorm was displaced to Limbo along with a handful of other Autobots when Rodimus Prime traveled to the past with a group of Autobots of his own. Time Wars
Later, he was one of the victims of a rogue Autobot Mark V Guardian droid, which resulted in him being thrown from the Ark and landing at the feet of Optimus Prime. Brainstorm's flaming body helped contribute to the Autobot leader regaining his desire to fight. Yesterday's Heroes!

Brainstorm was killed when Unicron ravaged Cybertron in 1991. Even Brainstorm's vast intellect failed him when confronted with the devil himself, so he simply screamed and shot desperately until Unicron scooped him up. He was quite tasty. On the Edge of Extinction!

Brainstorm was first seen on Cybertron, touting his new theory that an integration of human and Autobot would dramatically enhance their fighting abilities. Most of the other Autobots, though, thought he was a crackpot. Things turned around when he and a group of Autobots met a band of freedom fighters while stranded on the planet Nebulos. With several comrades kidnapped and the safety of the <strike>MacGuffin</strike> key to the Plasma Energy Chamber in jeopardy, the Autobots arranged to bond with the Nebulan soldiers. Their heads were reconstructed to accommodate Nebulan passengers and then "transform" around their partners as personal battle armor. The Rebirth, Part 1

With the help of their partners, the Autobot Headmasters freed their comrades and drove off the Decepticons. Unfortunately, their foes then joined forces with the freedom fighters' enemies, a group of evil machinesmiths called the Hive. They also created a new form of binary bonding called Targetmasters. The revitalized Decepticons returned and engaged the Autobots in battle anew. Mindwipe detected the key on Brainstorm and managed to disarm him. Several Hive agents then swarmed Brainstorm and removed the key from him, but he was able to run a full spectrum exo-scan on Nightstick, one of the Targetmaster partners, before they got away. With that information, Brainstorm was able to recreate the Targetmaster process for the Autobots. The Rebirth, Part 2

Returning to Cybertron in pursuit of the key and the new Decepticon city-base, Scorponok, Brainstorm and the others joined forces with Optimus Prime, and their partners were instrumental in reversing the chamber's power to usher in a new Golden Age for Cybertron. In the aftermath, Brainstorm and the Headmasters returned to Nebulos to clear out the Hive's machines and restore the planet to peace and prosperity. The Rebirth, Part 3
Fighting against the odds, the Cybertronians made several technological quantum leaps to survive on Master, including the creation of larger, lifeless Transformer bodies called Transtectors. Highbrow and many of his comrades underwent rigorous physical and mental training to master the art of transformation, learning to transform into heads that connected to the Transtectors and placed them under their control. The Four-Million-Year-Old Veil of Mystery Brainstorm was one of ten warriors who became one of these "Headmasters", but unfortunately, half their number soon rebelled against Fortress's leadership and sided with a traitor named Scorponok against him.
He was later stationed at the Kimia Facility, working on lots of experimental technology and weaponry for the Autobot cause. Brainstorm was often considered the insane standard that all other weapon designers in Kimia held themselves to. More than any other Autobot, he had beaten a path to Room 113 where his creations were time and time again rejected by the Ethics Committee as violations of the Non-Convention Weapons Act. Undaunted by the rejections, Brainstorm continued to dream up more outlandish and dangerous weapons in his time at Kimia. At Ironfist's request, Brainstorm agreed to go over the gun that misfired the cerebro-sensitive bullet into Ironfist's skull, looking for what went wrong with the firing mechanism. Brainstorm let the review fall into his backlog for several months, probably because Ironfist neglected to mention the accident had left a bullet in his skull, slowly killing him. Brainstorm finally reported back just as Ironfist was leaving for the Wreckers, revealing his findings that showed the gun had been rigged to go off at a certain angle. The saboteur, Skyfall, wasn't apprehended until nine months later, so Brainstorm apparently did nothing to follow up on his findings after alerting Ironfist. Bullets
Seeking to create a Decepticon Zone to counter the Autobot Zone, Decepticon Emperor Violen Jiger gathered together the Nine Great Demon Generals, upgrading them with powerful new armor and weaponry, then sent them forth to conquer planets. Zone (story page)

Aquatic General King Poseidon and Saurian General Trypticon were the next to attack, attempting to conquer the oceanic world of Wall. They bested Victory Saber, but were eventually defeated by the efforts of Overload, Erector, Missile Bull and Skywave commanding the Off Road Patrol Team, Jet Patrol Team and Race Car Patrol Team. Zone (story page)

The Generals then united to attack planet Feminia once again, this time destroying it utterly. Violen Jiger next charged his Generals with collecting Energon Z and the all-powerful Zodiac, which he intended to use to fuel his conquest. Overlord, Menasor, Bruticus and Abominus attacked planet Zone, defeating the Micromaster teams and stealing their Energon Z core. The Micromasters pursued them into space, only to be stopped by BlackZarak and his energy web. Devastator, King Poseidon, Trypticon and Predaking next attacked the Earth, which was where the Zodiac is hidden. They succeeded in obtaining the Zodiac, only to have it taken from them by the Powered Masters Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber. The Generals were soundly defeated and driven off. Zone (manga)

BlackZarak would later menace the Earth on his own, taking Landshaker and Sky Hyper hostage. Driven by the need to rescue their friends, Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber immediately defeated BlackZarak in combat. Zone (story page)

Overlord and Trypticon would next try their hand at defeating the two Powered Masters. The Powered Masters were so underwhelmed by their threat that they promised to defeat the Generals in under eight seconds. True to their word, Sonic Bomber defeated Trypticon with his "Meteor Drop" attack and Dai Atlas defeated Overlord with his "Galactic Dash" attack... all in under eight seconds. The Powered Masters then combined into Sky Powered and attacked Predaking, a self-professed master of aviary combat. They beat Predaking swiftly and soundly. Zone (story page)

The Generals were never again seen in battle, however, they did manage to school Metrotitan and the Metrosquad in the ways of evil, making them more than formidable foes for the Powered Masters. Zone (story page)

With the appearance of the new Emperor of Destruction Violen Jiger and his Nine Great Demon Generals, the war between the Autobots and Decepticons began a new phase.

For unknown reasons, the Generals Overlord, Abominus and Menasor obliterated planet Feminia, nearly killing Victory Saber in the process. After departing, they rejoined the other Generals in an empty area of outer space, where Overlord soon welcomed Violen Jiger's arrival.

Noting the apparent destruction of Victory Saber, Violen Jygar declared his intention to take over the galaxy and create a "Decepticon Zone". In order to do this, he told his Generals to collect "super energy" for him by any means necessary.

To acquire the special energy Energon Z, Overlord, Abominus, Bruticus and Menasor attacked the planet Zone while the Powered Masters were away. After tearing the Energon Z capsule out from Rocket Base, they flew off into space, where General Black Zarak took care of the pursuing Microtransformers in the Galaxy Rocket. The Energon Z capsule was installed in General Trypticon, granting him a powerful new attack called the Energon Z Beam.

Generals Devastator, King Poseidon, Predaking, and Trypticon then attacked Earth, looking for the Zodiac energy. A group of Microtransformers fared badly in trying to stop them, but relief soon came in the form of Sonic Bomber and the new Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!

The generals nearly managed to kill the two Powered Masters, but in the end Devastator appeared to die in a lava flow, King Poseidon and Trypticon were killed when Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber transformed into their "Zone Modes" by the power of Zodiac, and Predaking's head was sliced in half. Enter the New Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!

*The Japanese name for the Nine Great Demon Generals is Kyū Dai Mashōgun, which literally translates to "Nine Great Demonic Warriors". However, there is a pun present in there which doesn't translate into the English language. "Mashō" is the word for "devilish" or "demonic", while "shōgun" is the word for "General", hence how they are considered "generals" over "warriors". Of course, they don't actually have command over anything...

*In Transformers Generations, Black Zarak's title is given as "Darkness General" (暗黒将軍 Ankoku Shōgun) while Menasor's title is given as "Information General" (情報将軍 Jōhō Shōgun). Just where these alternate titles originated is currently uncertain; "Evil Spirit General" and "Intelligence General" were used in both the manga and story-pages, while the Generals' titles don't seem to come up in the OVA episode.

*When last seen, Black Zarak was pretty dead. His title of "Evil Spirit General" suggests some sort of unholy resurrection, but how he came back to life is never revealed.

*Ban Magami's character models for the Nine Generals which were used in the Zone manga and story pages differ considerably from the animation models used in the Zone OVA.

*Menasor as the Intelligence General is, well, an interesting choice, considering that he is one of the least intelligent combined robots in just about any continuity.
:Devil Z is a super-energy being from the Super-God Masterforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The origins of the self-styled "Decepticon God" Devil Z are shrouded in mystery. Seemingly lacking any corporeal form, he exists purely as a pulsating globe of iridescent energy and is only ever identified as a "super-energy being" hailing from the far reaches of the galaxy. As the "Führer of Darkness" (闇の総統 Yami no Sōtō), he commands the Decepticons on Earth, via his "Ambassador of Destruction", Overlord, and the main Decepticon force in space, through his brainwashed servant, BlackZarak. Although he almost always acts through his pawns, rarely dirtying his own hands (er, metaphorically speaking), he is terrifyingly powerful in his own right, able to generate enough energy to devastate a planet with his Devil Power.

Devil Z's goal is creation of the ultimate lifeform, the Godmaster, which he sought to accomplish by fusing Transformers and human beings into one, thereby creating a lifeform that could wield all three aspects of Chōkon Power. To this end, he stole a collection of eight Transtectors from the G Nebula, and spirited them away across time and space to Earth. With the Transtectors scattered across the planet, Devil Z entered a deep slumber at the bottom of an ocean trench, awakening in the early years of the 21st century to begin his plan. Devil Z quickly built his army by capturing and brainwashing the current Decepticon leader Scorponok (who had just recreated himself as BlackZarak) and liberating the Decepticon Pretenders from the Earthly prisons their Autobot counterparts had sealed them in epochs beforehand, and then recruited a pair of humans named Giga and Mega. Devil Z merged these two humans to the largest of the Transtectors, transforming them into Overlord, the first of the Godmasters, and charged them with locating the remaining Transtectors hidden across Earth.
While Giga and Mega were busy conducting their search for the Godmaster Transtectors, Devil Z resided in the underwater base occupied by the Pretenders, perched atop a tentacled dais from which he silently regarded his subjects. When Blood called upon his power to animate the first wave of Destroids Terror! Protect the Wild Animals!!, Devil Z complied, but when Gilmer happened to walk past his pillar, muttering to himself about the ineptitude of the Headmaster Juniors, Devil Z struck him with a bolt of energy, causing the Pretender to beg his forgiveness. Go, Goshooter - Showdown in the Wasteland

After Giga and Mega successfully located and trained the first new Godmasters, Hydra and Buster, he brought his two sets of troops together in his underwater base. Super Warriors - The Godmaster Brothers A Fierce Battle!! The Autobots Are in Trouble The first major obstruction in Devil Z's plan came not long after, when the Autobots recruited a Godmaster of their own, Ginrai. A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai Devil Z was finally heard to speak when he vowed that no more Godmasters would become Autobots, and ordered Ginrai's destruction. Eliminate the Godmaster Ginrai Unfortunately for Devil Z, what he had failed to realize was that all the remaining Transtectors he had stolen had been intended for Autobot use, and consequently, the human beings who merged with them all allied with the Autobots, thwarting his attempt to increase his army. Lightfoot: A Dramatic Encounter An Enemy? The Third Godmaster, Ranger Assemble! The Four Godmaster Gunmen

This failure did not sit well with Devil Z, who summoned BlackZarak back to Earth, only to have him forced back into space by Ginrai after a dramatic battle on the moon. God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon However, during this prolonged stay in space, BlackZarak mastered localised gravity manipulation, allowing him to create black holes which he used to teleport himself directly to Earth. Once there, he and the other Decepticons enacted Devil Z's "Operation M-1", rampaging across the planet until the Autobots stopped them. BlackZarak - Destroyer from Space

Having now witnessed the untapped potential for power within human beings, Devil Z formulated "Operation M-2"—the complete destruction of humankind through use of the atmosphere-destroying "Death Para-Machine". The Autobots yet again foiled his plan and destroyed the Death Para-Machine, but the willingness of their emperor to wipe out mankind had already planted a seed of doubt within the minds of Giga and Mega. {{storylink|Crisis!

Not long thereafter, when the Autobots invaded the Decepticon base, an outraged Devil Z played his trump card. Declaring that he would now reveal his true form to the assembled Autobots and Decepticons, Devil Z exploded with light, transforming first into a bizarre embryonic creature, and then into a sinister crimson mist that flowed into BlackZarak. Now in control of the powerful Decepticon's body and mind, Devil Z promptly collapsed the Decepticon base in a failed attempt to destroy the Autobots. The Ultimate Combination!! BlackZarak, the New Lifeform Subsequently, the Decepticons relocated to the Amazon, where the hybrid Devil Z/BlackZarak entity announced his intention to revisit his plan to wipe out mankind. Again, Giga voiced his concern over the drastic nature of the plan, but again, Devil Z ignored him, driving the wedge between the alien and his servant even further. As it turned out, Devil Z's contempt for flesh was even shared by Hydra and Buster, who petitioned Devil Z to purge them of their humanity and merge them completely with their Transtectors so that they could become purely robotic lifeforms. Devil Z complied, and the newly-robotic Hydra and Buster were sent to battle Ginrai while Devil Z unleashed his Devil Power on a devastating attack on North America. Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn When the Autobots arrived to stop him, Devil Z responded by turning his Devil Power on the four former Decepticons who had since joined up with the Autobots—Wilder, Bullhorn, Cancer and Clouder—separating them from their Transtectors and bringing the robotic bodies to life as true super-robot lifeforms. Autobots! Desperate Attack!!

For Devil Z's final attack on Earth, he moved the Decepticons to the peak of the Matterhorn in the Alps and unleashed his Devil Power over Europe. The Autobots again gave chase, and Ginrai once again bested Hydra and Buster in combat, leading the enraged Devil Z to take out his frustrations on the two brothers. As he lashed them with his spear and blasted them with energy beams, Overlord finally spoke out against his emperor, but his concern for his subordinate was met only with contempt. Able to bear no more, Overlord attempted to strike Devil Z, but was cut down by the giant Decepticon, and would have been destroyed had Ginrai not arrived in time to save him. Devil Z was kept busy by Sixknight while Ginrai got Overlord to safety, and by the time he had destroyed the Six Changer, Ginrai had returned to the mountain peak to face off against him. Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z Uninterested in fighting Ginrai, Devil Z transformed BlackZarak to scorpion mode and attempted to depart, intending to head for Antarctica, where he had already planted an amplifier for his Devil Power that would allow him to eliminate mankind with ease. Ginrai, of course, did not let him leave without a fight, dragging him back down to the mountain and prompting Devil Z to inflict the ultimate punishment: he unleashed his Devil Power on Ginrai, intent on transforming him into a true robot as he had done with Hydra and Buster, removing from him the humanity he so coveted. Thankfully, Ginrai was rescued by Grand Maximus, and his revenge was swift, as he punched BlackZarak's head clean off his shoulders.
The Autobots' believed that Devil Z was down, but the loss of his host's head did little to impede the alien's evil, and he simply transformed BlackZarak's body into a new serpentine form to continue the fight. At that point, Overlord appeared and opened fire on his leader, and Devil Z responded by killing Giga and Mega and bringing the Overlord Transtector to life as a true robot. Furious at the unrepentant evil of Devil Z, Ginrai merged his powers with those of the Autobot Headmaster Juniors, and unleashed a super-charged version of his God Fire Guts attack upon the villain, reducing BlackZarak's body to ashes. Without a host to contain it, the energy orb of Devil Z coalesced in front of Ginrai once more, growing to enormous size and raging impotently that the Godmasters were tools that would never be able to defeat their maker. Defiantly, Ginrai and the Juniors summoned up every ounce of their energy for the "Final Fire Guts" attack, and Ginrai dove like a flaming spear into the heart of Devil Z, who screamed and exploded in a coruscating wave of light and darkness.

At the sight of Devil Z's death, the surviving Decepticons immediately turned tail and fled into space. The aliens' death also severed the bond he had forged between the humans and their Transtectors, and the Autobots found themselves separated from their robot bodies. The Autobot Transtectors were brought to life, and they pursued the surviving Decepticons back into space. A Battle... and Then...
Several years after the conclusion of the Masterforce War, when the supernatural entity Violen Jiger seized control of the Decepticons, one of his first actions was to recruit "Nine Great Demon Generals" from Decepticon history. Using his mysterious powers, Violen Jiger resurrected BlackZarak to serve as his "Evil Spirit General," and outfitted him with new armor and weapons to make him more deadly that ever before. It was never explicitly stated if he possessed the consciousness of Scorponok or Devil Z, but he seemed to have a serious pirate-vibe going on, now sporting a hook for a hand and an eye-patch.

BlackZarak was part of the team of generals who attacked planet Zone in order to steal its precious Energon Z for Violen Jiger's schemes, but BlackZarak refrained from participating in the assault, hanging back on the fringes of the planet's atmosphere to cover his allies' rear. As his fellow generals made good their escape with the Energon Z in hand, BlackZarak barred the way of the Super Car Patrol Team and Battle Patrol as they attempted to pursue in the Galaxy Rocket. The Demon General managed to trap the rocket in a crackling field of electricity, and then departed to rejoin his fellow Decepticons, leaving the electric net to slowly destroy the rocket. Luckily for the Autobots, the Jet Patrol Team arrived to destroy the net, and Sunrunner proceeded to use his radar to track BlackZarak back to the other Decepticons. Enter the New Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!
Devil Z came into contact with Giga and Mega when the couple drowned at sea, and he elected to use his powers to resurrect them as his emissaries and servants. The Birth of the Super Lifeforms At first, he left most of the work up to them, clinging to the shadows, handing down commands without ever being seen, and being spoken of only rarely by his subordinates. Exactly where he was based was never revealed; he does not appear to have remained on Earth after awakening.

When the Decepticons' attempt to defeat the Autobots with holograms of legendary Decepticons from years past failed, Buster inquired if there were any real troops they could call on, and Giga announced that they would have to wait for Devil Z's order. Burn, Super Soul! The New Commander Super Ginrai! The order came soon, as he instructed the Decepticons on Earth to join forces with the space-based Decepticon forces and attack the Autobots on Athenia. During the ensuing battle, Devil Z's existence was revealed to the Autobots when the Decepticons boasted that they had all been united under his rule. {{storylink|The Battle Begins! Devil Z proceeded to upgrade BlackZarak's powers, Decepticons' Great Counterattack! and brought the giant Decepticon back to Earth. After several further failures on the Decepticons' part, Devil Z took matters into his own hands, transforming Buster and Hydra into true robots, and possessing BlackZarak's body, positioning his glowing orb between the Decepticon's shoulders in place of his actual head. In this form, Devil Z appeared during a battle between Ginrai and the other Decepticons, and transformed BlackZarak's body into a new serpentine mode as everyone looked on in shock. Devil Z then turned on the other Decepticons, and attempted to drain theirs and Ginrai's Jinchōkon, intending to absorb it and thereby transform himself into the ultimate lifeform. His absorption beam was blocked by the sudden arrival of the wholly-robotic Autobot Pretenders, saving Ginrai and the Decepticons from a nasty fate, and the Decepticons all decided to join with the Autobots to defeat their treacherous former master. Climbing aboard Grand Maximus, all the Transformers united their energies in the "Perfect Transform Attack", and the super-charged Grand Maximus charged into Devil Z, destroying him and BlackZarak for good in a blinding explosion of pure Chōkon Power.

The death of Devil Z resulted in the bond he had forged between the humans and their Transtectors being severed, causing the humans to be separated from their robot bodies, and the Transtectors to come to life as true super-robot lifeforms. Additionally, his destruction caused the energies sustaining Giga and Mega to cease, and they died along with him. The now-living Autobot and Decepticon Transtectors resolved to take their war back into space, where they would rejoin their respective factions and continue their conflict. The Birth of the Super Lifeforms
Notes
* BlackZarak would later be resurrected by the supernatural Violen Jiger for the events of the Zone anime and manga. Whether or not he was revived with Devil Z's consciousness or his own original mind was never expounded upon, but it seems unlikely that Violen Jiger would have taken that risk. But Black Zarak used powers he never had before in the episode and he has the Evil Spirit General title. but it still remains unknown if it's Scorponok or Devil Z
* Devil Z's name is pronounced with the Commonwealth "zed", rather than the American "zee". Or if you were feeling particularly weeabooish, you could pronounce it "zetto".
* Devil Z holds the…unique honor of being the only Decepticon big bad to have a song dedicated to him: "Uchū no Shihaisha - Devil Z" (宇宙の支配者・デビルZ "Ruler of the Universe — Devil Z"). This "image song" was originally sold on a Masterforce soundtrack in 1988, and was recently re-issued on both the History of Music: 1984-1990 and Song Universe 5-disc sets. The song was performed by Toshiya Igarashi, who also performed the intro and ending songs for Masterforce. Just in case you weren't clear on how evil he was, the song opens with a screaming refrain of "BAD BAD BAD!" Because…y'know, he's bad.
* Due to the events of Masterforce, the BlackZarak toy also doubles as a Devil Z toy. But then, so does a plasma globe, or even steam from a kettle...

:The Master Wars are a series of conflicts from the Japanese portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

In the year 2011, the Transformers finally moved their eternal war off of Earth, battling instead in a series of space-based exchanges between the Autobots' headquarters on Athenia and the Decepticons' base on Chaar. The super-science of the planet Master forms the backbone of the conflict, which consequently became known as the Master Wars.

Fiction
Japanese cartoon continuity
Following their final defeat in a battle at the North Pole, the Decepticons under the command of Scorponok finally retreated from the Earth once and for all. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2) They were pursued into space by the Autobot army led by Fortress, and there, their battles continued, supported and intensified by the advanced technology developed by the Transformers on planet Master. It was not long before the Autobots achieved superiority in the conflict, since the Decepticons were without strong battlefield leadership after the destruction of Scorponok's Transtector.

Both the Autobots' and Decepticons' space bridge network had previously been destroyed, Daniel Faces His Biggest Crisis Ever!! and so access to Earth was almost completely cut off, keeping the planet comparatively safe. Just to be safe, the Autobot Trainbots—some of the few Autobots able to traverse interstellar distances under their own power—periodically checked in on the Earth, observing that a team of Autobot Pretenders led by Metalhawk were active in secret on the planet (and, in actuality, had been for thousands of years). Unfortunately, a great evil was secretly brewing on Earth without the Autobots' knowledge: the mysterious alien energy-entity, Devil Z, had awoken from a slumber beneath the Earth's oceans, and set about taking control of the Decepticons for his own wicked ends. Abducting and brainwashing Scorponok, he placed the Decepticon leader, and by extension the whole army, under his control. Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!

The Autobots became aware of Devil Z's shadowy movements thanks to the former Decepticon Sixshot, who learned of his existence and sent a cryptic warning to his former enemies. At the same time, the Trainbots were returning from their latest voyage to Earth, and caught the first glimpse of Scorponok's new Transtector, "BlackZarak", hidden in a meteor cluster. With the Decepticons now active in space again and the Autobots unable to spare any of their fighting forces to deal with the problems arising on Earth, six Transtectors and six sets of Master-Braces were dispatched to Metalhawk by Chromedome, so that he could bestow them upon humans and allow them to become Transformers to defend their own planet against the Decepticon threat.

As the Masterforce War between Metalhawk's Autobots and the Decepticons under Devil Z's command on Earth erupted, the Master Wars themselves continued to rage in space, Birth! Headmaster Jrs though BlackZarak and Grand Maximus eventually broke off to join the fighting on Earth. Expose the Decepticons' Dark Trap! Presumably, the conflict was considered to have come to an end when Devil Z was destroyed at the conclusion of the Masterforce War, and the Decepticons were subsequently reorganized under Deathsaurus and began spreading their influence to other planets. The Brave Hero of the Universe - Star Saber
