Synopsis
Chak and Una, two protohuman children, play, watched over by an older primate bearing a familiar hammer. But a large raptor with evil red glowing eyes and laser vision arrives to chase the protohumans for their lives. The children hide and stay silent to avoid becoming snacks for the mechanical dinosaur. Optimus Primal and Silverbolt arrive in the sky to save the protohumans from the evil dinosaurs. Back in the Mount St. Hilary base, Rhinox analyzes recovered materials from the dinosaurs to deduce that Megatron must be masterminding the evil robot dinosaur's activities, and one raptor won't be the end.

Rattrap, lurking about, spies on Blackarachnia carrying around some materials in a suspicious manner. She drops her cargo when the two protohumans run past her, followed by their monkeysitter, Cheetor. Cheetor stops to explain why the kids are here, but is distracted by the sensation of being close to Blackarachnia. In the control room, Primal assigns Cheetor and Blackarachnia to take the kids back to their regular habitat (making Silverbolt act rather territorial). Once the four leave, Rattrap mentions to Rhinox that he saw Blackarachnia taking something from the classified area of the Maximals' base.

Cheetor gives Chak a dizzying ride through the air, while on the ground, Una puts a coconut on her head and mimics Blackarachnia's behavior. Cheetor and Chak land and Blackarachnia professes her disdain for the adorable antics of the Neanderthals. A Cyber raptor attacks, and despite her own reservations about putting herself in danger, she fights to protect the human kids. Cheetor manages to damage himself with a grandstanding maneuver. After getting away, the Maximals find their radios are being jammed and Cheetor's flight ability is disabled; the two are on their own.

Megatron, watching the Maximals and their charges, sends Waspinator and Tarantulas (brandishing a new toy) and three additional raptors to attack the two Maximals in the field. Meanwhile, Primal and Silverbolt also go to reinforce the two Maximals who haven't radioed in a status report. The four remaining Predacons share a hearty laugh and prepare for an attack on the under-staffed Maximal base.

Cheetor, Blackarachnia, and the kids come under attack from Predacon forces. While they take cover, Silverbolt and Primal arrive to protect their comrades. Tarantulas's new weapon is a Transmetal cyber venom which disables Primal, leaving him drunkenly singing about his Little Guy. Blackarachnia dives to use her own body to take a shot from Tarantulas meant for the two kids. One of the raptors gets close to Optimus, but is damaged by the sudden appearance of the hammer-wielding protohuman. The damaged raptor jumps madly, stomping on Waspinator. Thanks to the human, Primal figures out that the raptors are vulnerable on the control units on their backs. Blackarachnia destroys the control unit on the remaining raptor, which takes out Tarantulas as it self destructs.

Megatron's attack on the Maximal base starts well. Quickstrike is sacrificed as a victim to an anticipated booby trap. After getting a radio message from Waspinator that the attack on the protohumans has failed, Megatron, Rampage and Inferno push forward to claim the Ark—but Depth Charge arrives, giving Rhinox and Rattrap the opening they need to force the Predacons back into a retreat.

As Primal's group collect themselves, the children protohumans are delivered back into the care of their parents and wave goodbye to Cheetor. Blackarachnia smuggles some hardware from the damaged raptors. Cheetor congratulates Blackarachnia on her heroic actions, but Blackarachnia tells Cheetor she doesn't care for "nice kids". As she walks away under the wing of territorial Silverbolt, Cheetor mutters that he's not a kid...and maybe not so nice, either.

Meanwhile, Megatron determines that he can perfect the technology from the Cyber raptors by using it in conjunction with the other half of Rampage's divided spark.
"Call me paranoid, but I don't trust Preds, I don't trust spiders, and I don't trust dames who sneak in and out of classified areas when they think nobody's watchin'."<br />
"Oh, heart of my heart, I saw. You were ready to sacrifice yourself."<br />

"Rattrap to Optimus… hate to interrupt your picnic, but we got big Pred problems!"<br />
"Just hang on, Rattrap. You and Rhinox are our last hope. Defend the—defend the—[sings] There he is, my little guyyyyy! There he is; my little guy. Isn’t he cute?"<br />

"And I really thought, you know, we made a pretty good team, didn't we?"<br>
"Listen, tabby, you're a nice kid—" [notices Silverbolt approaching] "—which is two strikes against ya, so don't go lookin' for strike three, okay?" [walks away with Silverbolt]<br>
"I'm not a kid... and maybe I'm not so nice, either."
:—Cheetor and Blackarachnia

Notes
*This episode sets up the following "Feral Scream" two-parter and the Transmetal 2 technology, as well as starting Blackarachnia's covert attempts to turn herself Transmetal.

Continuity errors
*Tarantulas is now working under Megatron's command again. For whatever reason.
*The first raptor Blackarachnia and Cheetor fight wanders off, and doesn't turn up in the final battle (where there's only three from the Darksyde). Where did it go?

Real World references
* Megatron exclaims "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war", a quote from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

Additional notes
* This episode features the first and only time Tarantulas uses his spider-leg guns in his Transmetal form.
* Rampage appears, but doesn't have any real lines besides some evil laughing and some grunting.
* The Japanese title for this episode is rather odd, especially when you consider the fact that, a) this episode centers around Cheetor and Blackarachnia, and b) the 'great transformation' apparently being referred to happened three episodes ago.
* The first Protohuman seen at the start is the same one who picks up Dinobot's club at the end of "Code of Hero".
* The invention of the club appears to have lead swiftly and mercifully to the invention of pants.
* When Black Arachnia shoots Waspinator his eyes get VERY big in the typical cartoon fashion.

Theatrical release
* In Japan, this episode was titled "Beast Wars Metals: Convoy Great Transformation" (ビーストウォーズメタルス コンボイ大変身!) and released theatrically on July 31, 1999, as part of a triple feature of animated films based on Takara properties. The other two short movies included were "Super Doll Licca-chan" and "Microman". Its placement in the Beast Wars Metals series was taken by a newly crafted clip show, "Remix: I Lost the Banana!". Due to the relatively late theatrical release, the episode was not included on Pioneer's Japanese DVD box set of Beast Wars Metals.

Trivia
People on YouTube like to comment on Silverbolt about the opening scene saying that hes uesless cause he misses the Cyber Raptor and it blasts him down with one shot.
:Magmatron is a Predacon Fuzor from the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
predacon

As befits a decorated Warrior-General, Magmatron is capable of both elegant, reasoned judgment and wild, vicious action. Once he has set his sights on a goal, his drive to achieve it is unwavering and he will accept nothing less than total victory. Despite these attributes, and prodigious physical power, Magmatron's greatest advantage often lies in his charismatic leadership. Revered and admired by his soldiers, Magmatron fits the title "Emperor of Destruction" better than most.

On the surface, Magmatron seems to have much in common with Megatron. Both are schemers and planners, willing to subvert the established Predacon power structure to suit their plans and ultimate ambition for power, and possessing the strength to fight off any who challenge them. Their key difference lies in their relationships to that power structure. Megatron is at heart a rebel, working outside existing society. Magmatron, on the other hand, values his position of power and eminence in the current Predacon hierarchy, and though he schemes to someday stand at the top of that body, he is unwilling to risk his current high standings any more than he must to achieve those future goals. Also, while Megatron is more openly abusive and harsh with his troops, Magmatron operates with more military professionalism when interacting with his own soldiers. This aspect of Magmatron's personality may also be due to his more professional background, as opposed to Megatron's more rogue-ish ways.

Magmatron possesses a mitotic spark which allows him to separate into three dinosaur forms called Landsaur, Seasaur, and Skysaur, or merge them into a single monstrosity called Magmasaur.

After the defeat of Galvatron, Magmatron (who suffers from a similar chronic grin, even while talking) became the new Predacon Emperor of Destruction. A loyal and effective servant to the cause of Predacon equality on Cybertron, Magmatron was perfectly suited for the job. He had a long-standing rivalry with Big Convoy, albeit there was a mutual respect between the two enemies.

Aboard his ship, the Dinosaur, he tracked Big Convoy and his Maximal recruits to the planet Gaea where he learned of the Angolmois capsules that had been launched from the self-destructing Nemesis. Magmatron immediately set a course to track them down, desiring their incredible power. Competing with Big Convoy, Magmatron secured numerous capsules for the Predacons.

However, he did not keep them long. The Blendtrons, a trio of super-powerful and freakish Transformers, stole the capsules from both factions. As it turned out, the Angolmois energy was actually the lifeforce of Unicron. Offering up Galvatron's corpse as a new body, the Blendtrons released the Angolmois energy and Unicron was reborn.

Magmatron immediately challenged the Chaos Bringer but was quickly vanquished into a wormhole, leaving his crew of Predacons leaderless and rather ineffective. Magmatron escaped the wormhole toward the end of the Unicron battle, after Unicron had possessed Vector Sigma, and willingly fought side-by-side with Big Convoy and the Maximals to stop their mutual enemy.

After a lengthy battle, Unicron was defeated and driven from Vector Sigma by Big Convoy's Matrix Buster. Putting aside their rivalry, Big Convoy and Magmatron formed an alliance. The Maximals and Predacons then worked side-by-side and hand-in-hand to rebuild their ravaged planet.

During the early days of the Pax Cybertronia, Magmatron endangered the fragile peace, being an indomitable general who would not accept defeat. When he was finally brought to heel by the Tripredacus Council, he still chafed under the terms of the treaty and the council's apparent willingness to roll over for the Maximals. However, he accepted his change in status and maneuvered into a position on the Bi-Partate Committee for State Affairs alongside his old enemy, Big Convoy. Beast Wars Sourcebook

Frustrated by the Council's decision to bide its time, Magmatron recruited a small band of disenchanted warriors and fostered a professional relationship with the Tripredacus agent Ravage to keep abreast of the situation on Earth. With this information, he formed an elegant and tightly-knit plan to travel backwards in time to prehistoric Earth and reprogram all of the remaining protoform Maximals into Predacons. Keeping his plans secret until the last moment, he revealed to his forces that the Council has ordered him to pick up where their previous agent failed: capture the rogue Megatron.

Chronically displacing his crew so that they could not be detected by the beast warriors who are already there, they set to work. He ordered Razorbeast to begin activating the stasis pods while Spittor, Manterror, Transquito, and Iguanus reported on their progress. They witnessed the birth of three Predacons, but Spittor was greeted by the Maximal, Polar Claw. More Maximals were spotted, revealing Razorbeast as a spy, but the red warthog escaped into the wilderness. The Gathering issue 1

Once his new army was assembled, Magmatron ordered them to hunt down the Maximals. Drill Bit and Spittor, however, accompanied Magmatron on his personal quest to find Razorbeast. He located the spy and quickly gained the upper hand with his three dinosaur modes, but Razorbeast pulled a fast one, and buried the Predacon leader beneath a mountainside. Magmatron soon recouped his losses by recovering the spark of the Tripredacus agent, Ravage. The Gathering issue 2

Iguanus, having located a blank protoform, assisted Magmatron with rebirthing Ravage in a new, Transmetal 2 body. After issuing seek-and-destroy orders to his new lieutenant, Magmatron set forth on his next mission. He located Megatron, and the two engaged in battle. Megatron insisted that Magmatron was foolish for coming after him alone, as Ravage did, but Magmatron was not alone—Iguanus and Drill Bit ambushed Megatron.

With the transwarp shunt set up and ready to send Megatron into the hands of the Council, it was with reluctance that Magmatron again did battle. This time, an intruding Grimlock challenged the Predacon schemer. The Gathering issue 3 A tough fight, but Magmatron's triple beast modes eventually won out. Grimlock was enough of a distraction, however, to let Razorbeast and Optimus Minor enter his camp. Magmatron was thwarted by Razorbeast in hand-to-hand combat. As the Predacon lunged toward Minor, who was sitting upon the unconscious Megatron, the monkey activated a chronal displacement device. This sent Megatron back into his own chronal place, making Magmatron stumble onto the transwarp shunt. Razorbeast activated it, sending the warlord to parts unknown. The Gathering issue 4

Razorbeast's meddling in Magmatron's escape caused the Predacon commander to be consigned to a temporal limbo, able to traverse the whole of history but unable to affect any of the events he witnessed. Through this, he saw the eventual end of Cybertron as its inhabitants set upon each other with beastly fury while Shokaract summoned Unicron to devour the planet. Knowing that the roots of this catastrophic event were already beginning in his time, Magmatron turned to the enemy who had consigned him to this fate. Exerting what little influence he could, he stabilized Razorbeast's Transwarp carrier signal, allowing the time-lost Maximal's message to be received by Lio Convoy. The Ascending issue 1

Magmatron's meddling effect on the timestream was noticed by Unicron, who dispatched Rartorata to Earth to deal with the assembling combatants there. His ability to change the future was increased further, however, when during the confusion of the battle on Earth between the Maximal and Predacon forces, a playing 'possum Ravage made contact with the chronal displacement bands. Magmatron was able to use his limited influence to hold Ravage inside Chronospace, where he was able to make contact with the former Decepticon. Magmatron briefed him on the apocalypse that could yet come, urging him to call a truce with the Maximals in an effort to stop the end of all things. The Ascending issue 2

After a combined group of Maximals and Predacons returned with Ravage to present-day Cybertron to battle Shokaract, Ravage again briefed with Magmatron, who instructed him to send a Maximal to attach a chronal-displacement device onto Shokaract's body. When this happened (at the cost of Prowl II), Shokaract was brought to Magmatron within Chronospace. Magmatron showed him Cybertron's future and the realization that he was a pawn of Unicron caused Shokaract to rip out his Anti-Matrix and explode, sending Magmatron back to his normal time on Cybertron (and cause a disruption in transwarp space where Autobot shuttle Omega Delta was travelling). Magmatron stated there would be no more war, for the day at least, and reported that Razorbeast died heroically.

Things might have gone that way, if Megatron hadn't escaped and showed up. Way to go, Magmatron. The Ascending issue 4

: The Landsaur unit features a spring-loaded launcher in its mouth, enabling it to fire any of the five missiles the toy comes with. The launcher/throat assembly disconnects for robot mode, forming a sword-hilt primarily for use with the sword-blade missile. The hilt can also be converted into a pistol by flipping out an extra handle from the side. The Seasaur's lower body forms a shield that mounts on Magmatron's left arm; it also contains two grey missiles, and features a spring-loaded gimmick that causes the front paddles to flap when the rear ones are squeezed together. The Skysaur's wings feature a spring-loaded flapping action, triggered by pulling on its tail, and also hide a pair of smooth red blade/missiles.
Notes
* Magmatron's Maximal status on his Beast Machines toy bio (and the rest of his bio, for that matter) is difficult to reconcile with his appearances elsewhere, but one hypothetical sequence of events is that, after the climax of Beast Wars Neo, he returned to Cybertron, discovered it overrun with Megatron's Vehicons, changed his allegiance to Maximal, and fought the Vehicons as a member of the Dinobots. Or, call it a micro-continuity and be done with it.
He speaks in lofty platitudes of chivalry, nobility, and idealized heroism; his speeches make even Optimus Primal roll his optics. His conviction is both his strength and his weakness. He sees the world in black and white—and not just because his beast mode is partly canine. The only gray area for Silverbolt is Blackarachnia. His fierce love for the "evil" Predacon causes him to question his preconceived notions of right and wrong. He was very proud of his ability to convert Blackarachnia to the Maximals, and, though most of the Maximals are skeptical of her loyalty to the cause and to him, he has nothing but faith in her.
The explosion caused by the destruction of the Vok Planet Buster sent all stasis pods crashing to Earth. Some pods' scanners were damaged in the shock wave and eventual crash-landing, resulting in the Fuzors, a blend of two beast forms and the advanced Transmetal technology. One of these Fuzors was the winged wolf Silverbolt, while his neighbor was the violent, psychotic cobra-scorpion Quickstrike, who immediately picked a fight with the peaceful Silverbolt upon their activation. The fight was interrupted by Megatron, who tricked both Fuzors and recruited them into the Predacons. Silverbolt felt the faction's activation code and Megatron's orders to attack the passing Cheetor to be distasteful (seeing how the cat had not attacked them), earning furious punishment from the Predacon leader. Soon, he and the other Predacons faced the remaining Maximals in battle. Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)

Silverbolt and Waspinator were sent on to attack the Axalon directly, only for Silverbolt to be shot down by the ship's auto-guns. To his surprise, the Maximals took him back to their base for repairs, rather than finish him off. This act of compassion and Dinobot's own admission of defection led him to make an important decision and he joined the Maximals, saving the newly reborn Optimus Primal from Megatron. Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)

Soon afterwards, while on patrol with the much more laid-back Rattrap (who spent a lot of the time pointedly ignoring Silverbolt's lines of honor and virtue), Silverbolt encountered the alluring Blackarachnia
when Tarantulas and Quickstrike were attempting to set up a forward base. She was somewhat surprised by his complete refusal to strike her simply because she was a female and used it to her advantage to attack him. However, the Maximal had no such compunction against fighting the coarse Quickstrike. Tangled Web

During another mission, Silverbolt was shot down by Waspinator, who was prevented from taking the Maximal away by Rattrap. Silverbolt was able to return to base to fetch Optimus, and the pair were in time to prevent Dinobot, who had attempted to defect back to the Predacons, from being slagged by Megatron. Maximal, No More Silverbolt and Optimus arrived at an alien site unfortunately much too late to prevent Tigatron and Airazor from being abducted. They returned to the alien site later, and were blasted by an alien construct which appeared there. Other Visits (Part 1) Silverbolt and Cheetor, recovering quickly from the blast by virtue of their Transmetal properties, returned to the Axalon carrying Rhinox and Dinobot. They would later take part in a diversionary assault on the Metal Hunter in order to allow Rattrap and Tarantulas to slip inside and rescue Primal. Other Visits (Part 2)

The discovery of a stasis pod containing Protoform X led Silverbolt to once again encounter the dark temptress Blackarachnia, who was less than amused that he refused to fight her. After an energon explosion blasted them both across the jungle, damaging Silverbolt's wings, they were forced to journey together by foot. Silverbolt saved Blackarachnia from a saber-toothed tiger, and she in turn saved him from a nasty fall, however he was unable to get her admit there was any sort of Maximal goodness lurking within her. They soon encountered Protoform X, and Blackarachnia helped the Maximals defeat it, but was knocked off the cliff. Silverbolt once again came to her rescue, despite her protests that she didn't need help. Bad Spark

Though not having known Dinobot for long, Silverbolt took part in his funeral. Code of Hero While searching for a Predacon jamming tower, Silverbolt protected a stasis pod from Inferno. The pod contained a strange mutated Transformer which would later be dubbed Transmutate. Silverbolt appealed to Transmutate that the Maximals offered it friendship, however Transmutate fell in with the Predacons, swayed by Rampage. Transmutate led Silverbolt into a trap, allowing Rampage and Inferno to damage the Fuzor, but joined the Maximals following a rescue mounted by Optimus. Though the other Maximals wanted to put Transmutate into stasis lock, Silverbolt argued strongly against it. After Transmutate was accidentally destroyed by Rampage and Silverbolt who were fighting over the creature, Silverbolt was anguished, and told the other Maximals to leave Rampage to mourn. Transmutate (episode)

Silverbolt found himself reluctantly sneaking off to meet with Blackarachnia, providing her with a graviton generator for the hoversled she was building. Despite his secrecy, the other Maximals seemed all aware of what he was up to, with Rattrap insinuating all sorts of activities. The Maximals were joined by a Predacon secret agent, Ravage, who invited them to help him capture Megatron. During their attack on the Darksyde, Silverbolt again refused to attack Blackarachnia, allowing her to leave the field of battle, much to Primal's annoyance. The Agenda (Part 1)

Though Cheetor was assigned the task of bringing Blackarachnia in, Silverbolt rendered his fellow Maximal unconscious, himself going to find Blackarachnia. Locating her in pursuit of Waspinator, he pleaded with her to join the Maximals, and refused to leave until she did, even after she shot him in the thigh. While they were distracted, the hoversled hit Waspinator, forcing Silverbolt to once again save a disgusted Blackarachnia. The Agenda (Part 2) He subsequently aided her in digging into the side of a mountain, to discover within the Ark. When Megatron arrived, Silverbolt was the playing card to convince Blackarachnia to open the doors to the Ark and allow him inside. The Agenda (Part III)

Soon after, when Optimus Prime was injured enough to cause a time storm, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt used the Ark's systems to start repairs on the Autobot leader. Silverbolt helped his fellow Maximals defend the Ark against Megatron and, a short time later, stumbled on Blackarachnia who had been shot by the Predacon leader during his escape. Silverbolt cradled Blackarachnia in his arms, delivering a long melodramatic speech and howling when she went offline... only for the others to point out that she was just in stasis lock and would be fine once she got some repairs. With the loss of the Axalon, the Maximals moved in to the cavern housing the Ark. Optimal Situation
He and Blackarachnia would hang out on sentry duty together. Deep Metal Sent on another mission, Silverbolt delivered Rattrap in a subaquatic stealth vessel to salvage Sentinel from the remains of the Axalon.
When Cheetor seemed to be developing a crush on Blackarachnia, Silverbolt made no secret of his jealously, especially when the pair were assigned a mission together without him. Cheetor and Blackarachnia quickly got into danger, attacked by Tarantulas and some cyber raptors, and naturally Silverbolt was first to come to their aid. Cutting Edge Cheetor would later go missing after a dangerous mission with Depth Charge. Though he joined in the search, Silverbolt was jealous at Blackarachnia's apparent concern for their comrade. Confronted by a feral beast, Silverbolt and Rattrap were surprised to be told by Primal that it was Cheetor, upgraded into a Transmetal 2 form by Megatron's transmetal driver. Feral Scream Part 2

The Maximals investigated the possibility of removing Blackarachnia's Predacon shell program, causing her to flee into the woods. Silverbolt convinced Rattrap not to tell the others, so he could find her personally, only to get in the middle of a fight between Blackarachnia and Dinobot. Though he and Blackarachnia managed to defeat Dinobot, she was still determined to leave the Maximals, until they revealed that the decision to go through with the procedure to remove her shell program was up to her. Proving Grounds

Silverbolt interrupted Blackarachnia during an experiment she was attempting to undergo in order to convert herself into a Transmetal 2. The failure of the experiment caused her shell program to degrade, leading the Maximals to attempt the tricky procedure of removing it. Disruption caused by the Predacons caused Blackarachnia's death, and an enraged Silverbolt set out to dismantle Taratulas in retaliation. Though he swiftly defeated Tarantulas, Silverbolt was brought down by Rampage, who was about to finish off the Maximal when a revived and upgraded Blackarachnia arrived to rescue her boyfriend. Silverbolt was overjoyed at her recovery. Crossing the Rubicon

When Waspinator mounted a solo attack on the Ark, Silverbolt was his only casualty. The attack was simply a diversion to allow Tarantulas to deliver a device to put Quickstrike in control of Optimus Primal. The other Maximals ended up locked in a cage, bar Blackarachnia, who was able to rescue them so that they could help fight off Megatron, who had upgraded himself by stealing the spark of the original Megatron. Master Blaster

Following the destruction of the Predacon base, Silverbolt and Depth Charge searched for the Predacons by air. They found their foe, however Depth Charge set off a boobytrap, which damaged Silverbolt. Despite his protests that it was merely a scratch, the fact that his head fell off severely undermined his argument, and Silverbolt found himself being escorted back to base for repairs. Nemesis Part 1 He was repaired in time to help the other Maximals attempt to get the Ark moving before Megatron arrived with the newly-discovered Nemesis. Not long after Megatron combined his spark with that of the original Megatron, he had Quickstrike plant a device in the Maximal base. The device magnified the Maximals' aggression, and Silverbolt was soon trying to stop Rhinox from mangling Blackarachnia. After Optimus intervened, Silverbolt attacked him and was thrown aside, as Primal too succumbed to the device's effects. When the Axalon landed the maximals split up. Silverbolt went with Rhinox and Blackarachnia. They ran into some tank drones, who used the de-evolving virus on Blackarachnia. Rhinox had to drag silverbolt away. They met up with Rattrap who was being chased by some more tank drones that infected them with the same virus. Because they weren't transmetals Rhinox and Silverbolt were paralyzed and their sparks taken out.

When the Maximals found themselves back on Cybertron running for their lives from armies of Vehicon drones, their memories of their past had been tampered with. Even Blackarachnia could not remember Silverbolt fully until she hacked into the memory backup on their ship. Fires of the Past

Blackarachnia began to suspect that Silverbolt's spark might be inside one of the Vehicon generals. At first, she erroneously thought it was within Thrust, but after a mishap with some technorganic goop, Silverbolt's spark was proven to be inside Jetstorm (and Thrust turned out to be Waspinator, whose amorous advances were tragically spurned by the arachnid chick). For a precious few moments, Silverbolt's consciousness was completely awoken within Jetstorm's body, reverting him to his old personality, until the goop was absorbed completely and Jetstorm's shell program reasserted itself. The Catalyst

Obsessed with bringing Silverbolt back, she hounded Jetstorm, demanding he remember their shared love and return to the Maximals. Needless to say, Jetstorm was vexed by this. When Rattrap created a gizmo that would help them transfer the stolen Transformer sparks into new bodies, Blackarachnia stole it. Leading Jetstorm into the planet's organic core, she attached the gizmo to his back and trapped the Vehicon in a pool of the technorganic goop with her webs. After much screaming, reformatting, and brilliant light, Silverbolt was reborn as a condor, having scanned skeletal remains inside the cavern in the process.

Counter to Blackarachnia's expectations, Silverbolt was not pleased. Gone was the Maximal who exemplified honor and chivalry, replaced with one who desired only retribution and vengeance. "I was a fool back then," he once said. "I believed in things." Distraught, Blackarachnia managed to convince him to come along with her to help rescue Optimus Primal and Cheetor from inside Megatron's Big Floating Head, but Silverbolt did not accompany her for their friends, as he was not interested in them. He went to confront Megatron.

Megatron, seeing that his General had been reformatted into a Maximal, tried to seduce Silverbolt back to his side. Silverbolt was told he was a creature of honor who fought for just causes, and that Megatron gave Silverbolt not only a just cause (the technological purity of Cybertron), but also the power and strength to fight for that cause. Blackarachnia countered at every point, pleading with Silverbolt to remember their love and friendship. Silverbolt ignored her, bitterly retorting that Megatron had given him nothing. With nearly insane fury, he let loose a volley of feather bombs, disrupting Megatron from within. Cheetor and Primal were rescued, and Silverbolt was dragged away from the battle.

Slightly calmed, Silverbolt was later approached by Blackarachnia. He confided in her the real reason for his anger: it was not what Megatron had done to him, but that he'd been freed from his code of honor and enjoyed the experience. He did not trust himself any longer. This did not deter Blackarachnia. She believed, no matter what, that Silverbolt had goodness in his heart. In Darkest Knight

Silverbolt's return to the Maximals was not without its hiccups, however. When he formally returned to the group, Megatron used giant mechanical drill-tentacles to damage the city and get the Maximals' attention... as well as activate a new strain of the ancient Hate Plague virus hidden in Silverbolt. After infecting everyone and nearly scrapping each other, they managed to cure themselves. Silverbolt was bummed about being used, but Optimus gave him a pat on the shoulder and said "Hakuna matata". Or words to that effect. A Wolf in the Fold

When a spaceship was shot down and crashed into the city, Silverbolt was teamed with Nightscream to reach it from the air, and he had to endure the young Maximal's harsh words and attitude, brought on by the Hate Plague incident. Silverbolt fought against the crazed space plant on the shuttle, then against a horde of Tank Drones in their underground base, and his actions finally allowed Nightscream to warm up to him. Home Soil
After a battle against Thrust and his cycle drones, Silverbolt chewed Blackarachnia out for losing focus during the battle. Nightscream later approached Silverbolt to tell him not to be such a jerk to Blackarachnia, but Silverbolt wasn't interested in listening and flew off, pursued by the younger Maximal. The pair soon encountered trouble in the form of two new Vehicon generals, Obsidian and Strika. Though they were joined by the other Maximals, the Vehicon generals out-thought them at every turn, and they were only saved when Botanica intervened. Still, Silverbolt didn't fancy their chances against the new generals. Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike
During the search for the missing sparks, Silverbolt was teamed with Cheetor and Blackarachnia. Despite Megatron's apparent demise, Silverbolt was reluctant to renew relations with Blackarachnia. The pair's discussion was interrupted by an attack by a zombie animated by a strange red spark. The Maximals hunted the spark through the streets of Cybertropolis, only for it to turn out to be Megatron after Rattrap forced it into the body of a Diagnostic Drone. Spark of Darkness
One year later, five great Autobot heroes (Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Shadow Striker, and Roulette) returned home to a peaceful planet. Amidst a media blitz and celebration, Silverbolt, Blackarachnia, Cheetor, and Rattrap were among the Maximals to greet them.

However, what appeared to be celebratory fireworks struck Silverbolt and Blackarachnia and also the five Autobots. They were transported to the firey Pit deep within Unicron, where all but Trailbreaker were rebuilt painfully into new bodies. Silverbolt was piece-by-piece reassembled into a version of his

Seeing an arena up ahead, the seven moved towards it, only to be attacked by a swarm of shape-shifting, lava-like creatures. Though they fought, they were overwhelmed and taken into a nearby arena, the Cauldron, where they were caged along with a multitude of Transformers kidnapped from across the multiverse. Silverbolt believed he recognized some of their jailers, such as variant versions of Tankor and Obsidian, but the being he thought was Tigerhawk wanted Silverbolt to know that he was, in fact, Razorclaw! Here, Silverbolt would fight and die, his extinguished spark meant to feed the damaged Chaos Bringer. Abduction
As Sunstreaker and Sideswipe battled, Silverbolt noticed another intruder within the Cauldron - Optimus Primal! Could it be? Silverbolt and Trailbreaker used this distraction to hatch an escape plan. Since their cells were tuned to their bodies, the two swapped personality components, allowing them to leave their cages. Freeing the others, they and Optimus Primal rushed the guards and headed back outside of the arena. Optimus Primal and Snarl opened a portal back home to Cybertron, which would have made a happy ending for Silverbolt, but instead Blackarachnia and Shadow Striker betrayed them. Corrupted by the Unicron virus that persisted within their bodies since their experience within the Pit, Shadow Striker and Silverbolt's beloved had finally succumb to its demands. Blackarachnia bid a final goodbye to Silverbolt and pushed him through the portal to safety. Silverbolt joined several other of the escapees at the Oasis Research and Development Facility, where a stranded alternate universe Ratchet attempted to remove the virus from Sideswipe's new form with no success. He and Cheetor wondered aloud whether they could truly trust this resurrected Primal. The Axalon crashed in Mexico sometime around 1,000 BC, and the Maximals and Predacons fought many battles across the land. After Tarantulas and Waspinator enslaved a local tribe of humans, one of the young warriors escaped and encountered Silverbolt. Detecting the energon dust on the human's hands, Silverbolt tracked it back to a cave inside which he found the two Predacons. He swiftly dispatched Tarantulas, but was still struggling with Waspinator when the cave collapsed, and he was later forced to dig his way out. The Natiltec, who had been able to escape during the battle, dubbed Silverbolt "Fire-in-the-Dark", and inscribed the story of his great battle into a cave wall. The inscriptions were found and translated some three thousand years later by an archaeological team of humans and Mini-Cons. Fire in the Dark
Notes
* In the Japanese dub of Beast Wars, Silverbolt was not portrayed as a stereotypical "knight in shining armor" as he was in the West. Instead, his unique character quirk was that he was psychotically polite and always happy no matter what—even in the one scene in "Optimal Situation" where he thought Blackarachnia was dead. He ended nearly every sentence in a loud, stressed "desu!" which made every sentence of his needlessly over-polite. Suiseiseki would be proud desu.

* According to various Hasbro representatives, Universe Silverbolt's colors (and those of pretty much the entire first wave of Universe product) were done by Hasbro employees from outside the Transformers team.

* Silverbolt's robot mode in Beast Machines was heavily designed after a traditional Japanese samurai.

* According to one of the writers' commentaries on one of his episodes, he made the changes to Silverbolt based on the evolution of the Adam West Batman into the Dark Knight.

* Silverbolt has the dubious distinction of being the only Maximal who has not taken out Waspinator, instead being taken down by the bug three times. Ouch.
Quickstrike is a spastic, violent, trigger-happy cowboy who rarely thinks beyond the next "keister he's gonna kick." This simple-minded lust for beating people up seems to be his overriding personality trait. While this makes him easy to manipulate, which Megatron finds extremely useful, the problem he has found is that Quickstrike is so easy to manipulate that Megatron's not the only one doing so! Both Tarantulas and Blackarachnia have their hooks in him in some form or another, leading Megatron to consider controlling the vicious little bugger through the good old-fashioned method: fear of death. Quickstrike may be stupidly brave most of the time, but only to a point.
:Voice Actor: Colin Murdoch (English), Nobuo Tobita (Japanese), Fabio Tomasini (Portuguese) Gianluca Iacono (Italian)

Quickstrike was originally one of the Maximal protoforms stored aboard the Axalon, prior to it crashlanding on prehistoric Earth. When the Planet Buster exploded, his stasis pod was knocked out of orbit and crashed in Delta Quadrant, an unstable region. His malfunctioning DNA scanner gave Quickstrike a dual scorpion/snake beast mode, however when he was awakened, he had no knowledge of his identity as a Maximal. His first action was to engage his fellow Fuzor Silverbolt in a sparring match. His aggressive nature made him an easy convert to the Predacon cause for Megatron, and he was soon happily attacking the Maximals. Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1) He took part in the defeat of the Maximals, but only until Optimus Primal was resurrected as a Transmetal. During the fight against the Maximal leader, he was slagged by one of Inferno's errant missiles. Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)

A short time later, Quickstrike was sent with Tarantulas, Blackarachnia on a mission to build a refueling station at a cave full of energon. Both spiders found Quickstrike to be ludicrously easy to manipulate, as all he was really interested in was a good fight, and possibly relations with Blackarachnia. Quickstrike was overjoyed when Rattrap and Silverbolt turned up and threw himself into the battle with his usual gusto. When the cave they'd been sent to build at was apparently destroyed, he only retreated after a lengthy parting shot. Tangled Web Taking part in an ambush, Quickstrike got the drop on Rattrap, but Rattrap was able to out-draw him and blasted him off a cliff. Quickstrike survived, and when Dinobot attempted to change sides, was only too happy to face the much-larger Maximal in one-on-one combat. Though he was defeated, Dinobot refused to terminate him, claiming he'd make a good soldier with some training. Maximal, No More

Quickstrike and Waspinator attempted unsuccessfully to defend a jamming tower against Dinobot and Rattrap. Once they reported back to Megatron, they and the other Predacons proceeded to an alien site which had been discovered in the meantime, and set up a refractive web. They were unprepared when an alien construct appeared and blasted them all. Other Visits (Part 1) Quickstrike, due to some Transmetal-like quality of his form, recovered quickly from the blast, and ventured into the construct with Megatron and Tarantulas. Megatron soon used him as a guinea pig to see if the construct's defences would respond to them — luckily for Quickstrike, they didn't. After Megatron had taken control of the ship, Quickstrike and the other Predacons defended it against a Maximal attack. Other Visits (Part 2)

While Blackarachnia and Silverbolt were traipsing around the jungle together, Megatron, Quickstrike and Inferno spied on them using a bugging device planted earlier. Bad Spark Perhaps uncharacteristically, while the other Predacons were torching a valley full of Protohumans, Quickstrike hung back with Megatron. Once Dinobot had exhausted most of his power defeating the others, Quickstrike leaped into battle, believing Dinobot to be weaponless. Dinobot responded by physically beating the Predacon and slaming him head-first into the ground. Code of Hero

Quickstrike took part in a desperate attack on the Axalon when it seemed as though the Maximals would be receiving help from Cybertron. As it turned out they did, and the Predacons were repelled by Ravage's transwarp cruiser. The Agenda (Part 1) Once Megatron had convinced Ravage to switch sides, the Predacons mounted another attack on the Axalon. Quickstrike rode triumphantly atop Rampage's tank mode... only to be blasted off by a Maximal autogun and subsequently run over by his comrade. The Agenda (Part III) Quickstrike worked to reassemble himself as Megatron called on the Predacons to get themselves ready for battle. Apparently he wasn't finished in time to take part in the subsequent destruction of the Axalon. Optimal Situation

After Rampage disappeared while on a mission, Megatron sent Quickstrike to look for him. Quickstrike soon found the crab at the mercy of Depth Charge, and was only too happy to lend a hand by shooting the Maximal newcomer. Sadly he didn't have long to celebrate his victory before a cluster of missiles fired by Primal blew him away. Deep Metal When the Maximals attempted to salvage Sentinel from the wreck of the Axalon, Quickstrike helped Waspinator by taking on Rattrap and Silverbolt, while his fellow Predacon headed for home with the computer module. He headed over to finish off the unconscious Silverbolt... only to be flattened when Rampage fell on him. Changing of the Guard

Attempting to find out what had happened to the Transmetal driver, the Predacons interrogated Depth Charge, only to be attacked by a strange feral cat creature. After promising to make the creature into a ghost, Quickstrike chased it behind a rock. His snake head came back minus the rest of him. Feral Scream Part 1 During the construction of the disruptor cannon, Quickstrike was the only one <s>foolish</s>brave enough to be wielding inside the weapon barrel when Inferno plugged it in, and was knocked off his perch by the energy surge. Once they got the cannon working, Quickstrike's prognosis of "lookin' good!" proved premature, as it exploded in their faces. Go with the Flow Quickstrike and the other Predacons attempted to disrupt the power in the Maximal base during an attempt by the Maximals to remove Blackarachnia's Predacon shell program. He was swiftly dispatched by Cheetor. Crossing the Rubicon

Using one of Tarantulas's devices, Optimus Primal was able to be controlled using an exo-suit manipulated by Quickstrike. The Fuzor was able to rapidly disable the other Maximals, allowing the Predacons to take control of the Maximal base. Using the Teletraan I control codes stored in Primal, Quickstrike and Megatron gained entry to the Ark, within which lay the body of the original Megatron. Megatron took his predecessor's spark into himself and, while he was weakened from the struggle of doing so, Quickstrike revealed it was a double-cross. On Tarantulas's orders, Quickstrike used Primal to seize the Predacon leader and throw him into the lava outside the Ark. Unfortunately for both the arachnids, Megatron lived, upgraded into a new form. Quickstrike was defeated by Blackarachnia, losing his link with Primal. Master Blaster

Furious, Megatron held a trial for Quickstrike, however it was interrupted by an unexpected incursion — the Vok emissary Tigerhawk destroyed the Darksyde. Quickstrike was literally blown away along with his Predacon comrades, leaving Megatron the only one standing to face Tigerhawk. Other Victories In the aftermath, Inferno, Quickstrike and Waspinator were sent by Megatron to find a new base. They decided on attacking a protohuman colony, though Waspinator refused and was slagged by the other two. Quickstrike and Inferno charged, only to meet with heavy resistance from the natives. Nemesis Part 2 They finally got the early humans on the run, and were overjoyed to see the Nemesis appear overhead... until the main fusion cannon fired on the site, killing them both. Among the parts of him salvaged by the early humans were his cobra tail, used as a trumpet, his claws used as a spit, and his faceplate, used as a mask. Nemesis Part 2
This fiction takes place after "Master Blaster."
A temporal distortion drew the attention of both the Maximals and Predacons to a remote canyon, where Quickstrike and his fellow Predacons met their foes. The Maximals were losing, having been fought into a corner, when suddenly the battle was interrupted. The Dark Essence, the source of the temporal distortion, had possessed the newcomer Windrazor with the life force of Unicron. Quickstrike and the others were immobilized by Windrazor/Unicron's psionic force blasts, and the merged creature advanced on the Maximals. Herald, Covenant, Schism, Paradox
When Quickstrike and Inferno heard what sounded like a fight involving Megatron, they rushed over to find out what was happening. When they arrived, they saw that there was no one there. Megatron had actually been taken prisoner by Magmatron. The Gathering issue 2
While waiting for his trial for betraying Megatron, Quickstrike was approached by his leader (who'd seemingly taken to talking to himself of late) and given a new mission. He flew over Maximal territory on a small glider, dropping off a small device into the Ark before retiring to a safe position to observe. The device soon caused the Maximals to be at each other's throats, a fact he gleefully reported to Megatron. As his leader proceeded with the rest of the plan, Quickstrike relaxed in the sun, and was subsequently unprepared when the Maximals, having overcome the effects of the device, pounced on him. A Meeting of Minds
Following the Quantum surge, the Predacon Quickstrike was upgraded into a Transmetal. Combining the mutated blood in his body with Megatron's warrior drones, Quickstrike fashioned himself an army of Scorpion Soldiers and Cobra Soldiers. With his new army, he proceeded to attack the weakened Maximal base, gradually depleting Sentinel's defenses. When the Maximals were forced to shut Sentinel down to let Airazor in, Quickstrike's attacks really began to take a toll. Seeing an opening, Blackarachnia entered the base and confronted the Maximals inside.

After she had finished, she left the base just as Quickstrike's forces caused it to collapse completely. Angry at her "interference", Quickstrike began to berate her. Not in the mood, Blackarachnia proceeded to kick Quickstrike's head clean off. Weeping, Quickstrike's noggin sat helplessly on the ground as his decapitated body scrambled around blindly. Raise the Curtain for Beast Wars Metals!!
Notes
* Like Rampage, Quickstrike did not have a Predacon shell program installed in his Maximal protoform state to turn him bad. It's possible the damage done to his stasis pod warped his personality. More unsettling is the theory that this IS his true, spark-given personality, and the Maximal programming knocked off-line by his crash would have been just as distortive on his mind as the Predacon shell program was on Blackarachnia. Another logical explanation of this could be the natures of his beast form(s) which led (or at the very least increased) his aggressiveness factor.
*In the jovial Japanese dub, Beast Wars Metals, Quickstrike's cobra tail could talk and think independantly from Quickstrike. It would always end its sentences with either "-ko", "-bura" or "-kobura". Another of Quickstrike's quirks in both the cartoon and the manga was that he'd constantly end his sentences in gicchon/gicchonchon, which essentially translates to snippity/snippity-snip.

Derodomontatus is the Supreme Imperial Magistrate of the Quintesson race. For centuries after the last failed attempt, he and his cohorts have patiently waited to retake Cybertron from the Transformers. Now, the time to try again has arrived, and no amount of Thinking This Through Better will stand in his way.

Fiction
Universe: Featuring the Wreckers
Derodomontatus formed an allegiance with the Predacon outlaw Cryotek, giving him a home on New Quintessa while the two plotted conspiracy against the Transformer race. Using Cryotek's considerable skills, Derodomontatus was able to send a message through the Oracle to the few remaining Transformers unaffected by Predacon Megatron's virus, sending them on fool's errands.

One group, the Mutants, was directed to New Quintessa itself, where Derodomontatus and Cryotek watched as all four were slaughtered wholesale by Sharkticons. Cryotek balked, but Derodomontatus explained killing them all was necessary; the Mutants were "unmarketable product". Cryotek was angered by the Supreme Imperial Magistrate's hubris, reminding him that none of this was possible without his involvement. Quintessons are, after all, hardly marketable themselves. Betrayal

After Cryotek had secured the Divine Light, Derodomontatus's patience had worn thin, and he demanded that the next stage in their retaking of Cybertron commence. With the reformatting of Cybertron, the Quintessons' business transaction with the Predacon gangster was at an end. Cryotek assured them that after he tied up some loose ends, he would accompany them to their new home and begin their siege. Disclosure

In the wake of Cybertron's reformatting, Derodomontatus was certain there would be no resistance, for the Transformers, now technorganic beasts, would obviously be docile, like cattle. Cryotek suggested caution, but Derodomontatus was confident in the overwhelming numbers of his army. Wreckers: Finale Part II

But in the end, it was not the inhabitants who would be his undoing. In the center of Cybertron, the increasingly mutated Cryotek dissolved his contract with Derodomantatus. Derodomontatus was brutally killed by Cryotek's pet, Chro, who was transformed by the supernaturally empowered gangster into a giant beast. Wreckers: Finale Part II
Megatron violently arrives on Earth. Autobots begin construction of Autobot City, and the true reasons for the Great War are revealed. Dreamwave dies.
Synopsis
On a rainy Earth island, Starscream grills his soldiers, the Combaticons, regarding their sloppy performance against Sunstorm. Starscream introduces the team's new training partner: a restrained Sky Lynx. The combat exercise begins, and Sky Lynx separates into his dual beast modes, easily besting the poorly performing Combaticons. With the exercise failed, Starscream reactivates the energy dampers installed on Sky Lynx. Unable to defeat Sky Lynx, the Combaticons have no hope against the newly arriving Predaking.

At the Decepticon base, Soundwave ignores Starscream's radio call for help, and having changed sides once again, is now loyal to Megatron.

At The Pentagon, Marissa Faireborn comes under pressure from one of her superiors for the loss of the EDC Night Force Unit. Marissa defends her performance, making a point to mention dear, sweet Jazz. Marissa objects, but Buster convinces her otherwise.

In Alaska, Brawn and Ratchet bring Jazz's team of Autobots to Prowl, who shows the Autobots to the future site of Autobot City, a massive (permanent?) establishment to house the Autobots on Earth. In the background, Omega Supreme is aiding in the construction, showing the scale of the endeavor.

The Combaticons fight valiantly against Predaking, combining into Bruticus. Starscream tries to retreat, and Bruticus covers his commander's escape by crumpling Predaking's wings. The two titans lay into each other, but using spiked knuckles to rend metal, Predaking wastes Bruticus.

Starscream returns to base and comically slips on the floor. Soundwave, instead of helping, aims a familiar gun and fires a shot that blows through Starscream's torso. With Starscream leaking mech fluid, Megatron reveals himself. Even injured, Starscream is able to gloat about his knowledge of Megatron's plans involving the Matrix. Megatron reveals that even Shockwave has been enslaved, and to level everybody's perspective, he explains how everything started.
Investigating the purpose of this, he ignored the restrictions and ventured deep into the planet.

There, he found the ruins of a long-lost era of Transformers, and from within he recovered an artifact and evidence that the recorded origin of the species was a myth placed to cover the truth that the Council of Ancients were corrupted by the Quintessons. Returning to his home, Megatron fought off an attempt on his life sent by the Council to silence his revelation; this act of aggression led Megatron towards the formulation of his army.
On Cybertron, a familiar shadow recovers Blitzwing's head.
As Megatron finishes his revelation, Starscream mentions Sunstorm. Megatron knew of Sunstorm, and a prophecy that matches Sunstorm's M.O. With more questions, the two turn to answers from Sunstorm's creator, Shockwave.

In the "Handle" of the Autobase, Ultra Magnus appoints Kup and the Dinobots to establish a moon base facility. * Starscream's reference to the Combaticons' rebirth on an island is a nod to the episode "Starscream's Brigade".
* Colonel Witwicky is clearly Buster Witwicky, who in the previous issue was mentioned by Spike to have joined the military. Look, you can see a picture of presumably Spike and Sparkplug (RIP) on his desk. Naturally, he's pissed at the Transformers for the death of his father in the Ark II explosion.
* Project Centurion: Colonel Witwicky's computer displays an Exosuit as Spike and Daniel Witwicky wore in The Transformers: The Movie. Art from unpublished issues revealed a large number of these suits developed.
* Autobot City is clearly going to be Metroplex, as some of the Autobots working on the construction are looking at a holographic schematic of Metroplex.
* Soundwave manages to talk again.
* Starscream believes Megatron has plans for the Matrix? Does the Matrix have some connection to that big glowing purple goo pit thing? Sure.
* Megatron's flashback:
** Hey, that's Megatron's design from The War Within, with a few extra paint apps.
** In gladiatorial combat, Megatron is defeating Cy-Kill, as he would do again in IDW Publishing's Megatron Origin.
** Hey, a Golden Disk—possibly the third one to be introduced into the continuity, not including the two from Beast Wars.
** The two giants (statues? deactivated Transformers?) are Dai Atlas and Deathsaurus, from the Japanese lines.
* Weird that the last (chronologically) issue that Dreamwave ever published has a flashback leading into the very first.

* The "Wavelengths" page has a column from the desk of Ernst Dabel.
* The Dinobots are drawn to be incredibly HUGE. Kup is as tall as Swoop's waist and Snarl's knee. Wheelie is roughly the size of Grimlock's hand (hmmmmmmmm). Ultra Magnus is the only non-Dinobot in the room that is not dwarfed by them.
*This issue set up numerous interesting plotlines involving the Female Autobots, Shockwave's experiments, Sunstorm's relation to the Covenant of Primus, Megatron and Earth's connection to Cybertron... ==Notes of interest==
Sure.

* Megatron's flashback:

* The shadow recovering Blitzwing belongs to Sixshot, who was last seen as a tank that the Dinobots hijacked from Octane.
* Chicas!
* On the "Prime Transmissions" page, reader mail is answered by Copy Editor Matt Hansen.
* The "Next issue" blurb on the "Prime Transmissions page", the teaser image for next month is the cover to #10 instead of #11.
And then the company fell through. DAMN YOU ALL TO HADES!
