'''Arcee and Bumblebee go deep into New York's "underground" in an attempt to beat Megatron to the next four Iacon relics.'''

==Synopsis==
The [[Team Prime|Autobot team]], having obtained the same coordinates for four [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] relics as the [[Decepticon]]s, plan their next course of action. [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus]] suggests a dispersal so they can obtain all the relics simultaneously. Despite initial resistance from [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]], the [[New York City|New York]] site and the relic contained beneath its streets are selected for Arcee and [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] to scout. [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] volunteers her knowledge of subways and [[Jack Darby|Jack]] his ability to cover for the mission; all four prepare to roll out.

Having moved away from Manhattan, [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] assigns [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] the discreet task of obtaining the relic there. At a disadvantage without [[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]], Knock Out is unwillingly appointed an [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]] partner, along with a small detachment of [[Decepticon Miner|Vehicon miners]]. Beyond frustrated with Knock Out's lack of concern beyond his paint job, Megatron sends them off.

In a New York alleyway, Arcee, Bumblebee, Jack and Miko bridge in. They quickly locate a construction site where they can enter the vast subway network. As they walk, Bumblebee nearly steps on a third rail, but Jack warns him of the danger just in time. A familiar sound echoes through the tunnels—a [[Energon Driller|Decepticon drill]], which Miko pinpoints the direction of. She tears off through an access tunnel, Jack in tow. On the other side, they are confronted by [[Vogel]], a sweeper train operator, and Miko constructs a hasty lie that saves their tail. He offers to take them for a ride.

Vogel's personality soon becomes clear as he recounts tales of monsters that creep through the subways—including the mole men, who he believes are amassing their armies. Miko and Jack make an escape jumping off the back of the train, Vogel totally oblivious.

Arcee and Bumblebee find Knock Out and the miners, but don't see the Insecticon creeping up behind them. It attacks the duo, alerting Knock Out to their presence. Arcee and Knock Out exchange blows while Bumblebee occupies the Insecticon; Arcee makes a grab for the relic, but is knocked out by an electron prod to the back. Bumblebee is also quickly floored by the Insecticon. Satisfied, Knock Out cracks the relic's packaging and prepares to field-test the device on his new subjects.

Jack and Miko bicker in the tunnel about Jack's sojourn to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], but are stopped in their tracks by the sound of footsteps. It's Vogel, none too happy about being ditched. Miko, capitalizing on the man's conspiratorial bent, gets Jack to tell him the truth. Vogel is enthralled and they all board his train to find their friends.

Knock Out's field test is interrupted by the arriving sweeper. The Insecticon sidesteps it, but Knock Out is hit and dragged a distance between the wall and train, suffering serious cosmetic damage. Arcee and Bumbleebee, now conscious, start fighting back as Knock Out peels out with the relic. Arcee goes after the train with the Insecticon following while Bumbleebee chases after the fleeing medic.

On the train, Vogel reveals that the brake line went out and that their course is for a dead end. Arcee is able to catch up with the train and jump onto the back of it. Informed of the approaching wall, she drives ahead for the turn switch. Trying to change the tracks, she snaps the lever, forcing her to change the track alignment physically. She succeeds just in time and with the train safe, she faces her foe. Recalling Bumblebee's previous encounter, Arcee lures the Insecticon into touching the third rail, which instantly kills it.

Knock Out faces off against the Autobot scout in a chase. Bumblebee accidentally activates the relic during a tussle which clamps onto his wrist. The train barrels in and heads straight for an oblivious Bumblebee, whom it passes right through without a scratch. It instead strikes Knock Out, grinding his face and body on the pavement for a good distance before the train comes to a stop. Horrified at his total cosmetic disfigurement, he flees, minus a wheel.

The relic is revealed to be a [[phase shifter]], which allows the user to pass through solid objects. The problem turns to Vogel, who knows about the Cybertronians. A hasty call forces [[William Fowler|Fowler]], who's now awake back at base, to deputize the worker as a "deputy of interstellar relations". Vogel is ecstatic about his new position even when he is told to maintain complete radio silence until he is called upon. As Vogel watches the Autobots and the kids leave, he ponders the idea of robots disguised as vehicles while looking at his sweeper train.
==Notes==
===Animation and technical errors===
*After the phase shifter attaches itself to Bumblebee, he stands straight up while inspecting it. However, his position is reversed when he stands: Knock Out is now in front of him instead of behind when the runaway sweeper train comes around the corner.
*If the phase shifter can allow the user to pass through any solid object, shouldn't it have caused Bumblebee to pass through the ground as well?
*The scratch marks from Knock Out's first encounter with the sweeper train seem to have disappeared after his transformation into vehicle mode onwards.
*Jack and Miko tell Arcee and Bumblebee to stay away from the third rail or they will be fried. They touch it multiple times throughout the episode, then Arcee uses it to kill the Insecticon.
* Vogel's fire axe ends up back on the wall without him actually putting it there.

===Continuity notes===
* Agent Fowler is still recovering from getting zapped in the [[Flying Mind | previous episode]].
* Knock Out wants to retrieve the relic in the [[Crossfire | memory of Breakdown]].
* Miko's starting to [[Convoy (episode)|hate trains]].
* Knock Out refers to how Bumblebee was unable to transform in "[[Operation Bumblebee, Part 1]]".
* The phase shifter was alluded to in "[[Sick Mind]]" by Megatron when he was trying to figure out why he couldn't attack Bumblebee while they were in his subconscious, but he called it [[phase displacement armor]] instead.

===Transformers references===
*The phase shifter, or at least a device like it, was what [[Razorbeast]] used to defeat [[Magmatron]] in ''[[Transformers, Beast Wars: The Gathering]]''.
*The Autobots receive help from a human labourer wearing a yellow [[hard hat]].

===Real-world references===
* The zoom-in from the sweeper train to the dead end references to the elevated train scene in ''Spider-Man 2''.
* Jack's description of the third rail on subway trains is real, as is the fatality of touching it.
* Knock Out's "nip and tuck" line to Arcee is a colloquial phrase for cosmetic surgery.
* Jack claiming to be the "Face" and his explanation for it might be a resemblance to Templeton Peck from ''The A-Team'', who was also mostly known as 'Face'.

===Trivia===
* This is the first episode that we see Knock Out mention his [[Breakdown (Prime) | partner's]] death.
* There is a surprising lack of trains in the tunnels of New York.
* In [[Darkness Rising, Part 1|the first episode]], the Autobots take on the burden of watching over and protecting the [[human]] children because they witnessed them in robot-mode or got caught in the crossfire of a Decepticon battle. Vogel, despite having the same "qualifications", is dispatched with a hasty cover story and left to fend for himself without Autobot protection. Apparently, you only get a "guardian" if you're tiny and cute. Or it could be that they can't afford to guard anymore humans, given that they already have 4 (sometimes [[June Darby|5]]) under their watch.
Ratchet used to be a politician, Optimus Prime's chief liaison to the [[High Council of Ancients]]. He tried to find a peaceful solution to the civil war, and when this failed, he became a battlefield medic. {{storylink|Transformers: The Movie Guide}}

He would later be one of three Autobots who tried to prevent [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]] from reaching the [[AllSpark]]. However, they hadn't expected [[Brawl (Movie)|Devastator]] to be demented enough to set off a [[foldspace warhead]] at pointblank range, a weapon that warped everyone to different parts of the galaxy. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 2|Prelude: Megatron}} Ratchet found himself stuck in the middle of an genocidal [[alien]] war that uncomfortably mirrored Cybertron's own. Ignoring it at first, Ratchet [[Scanning|scanned]] a local tank to blend in and inconspicuously set up a homing beacon in the hope of getting rescued. Finding himself with no purpose in the meantime and seeing the [[A'ovan]] faction getting slaughtered, Ratchet challenged and defeated [[Durguth]], the local tyrant, thereby becoming the new ruler of the [[Thraal]] faction. He then ordered a ceasefire and oversaw an interim alliance, effectively bringing peace to the planet single-handed. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 3|Lost In Space Part 1: Ratchet}}

[[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] eventually detected the beacon, Ratchet switched back to his green form, and the two began searching for Jazz when he didn't show. They rescued him from a predatory alien planet and then returned to Cybertron.  {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 6|Lost In Space Part 4: Jazz}} Once on Cybertron, he decided to try out that white body again, and was part of a mission to ''finally'' medevac [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]]. {{storylink|Movie Prequel issue 1|Movie Prequel #1}}

Centuries later and immediately following the death of Megatron, Ratchet (having gone back to green) and his comrades were attacked by [[zombie]] Decepticons. After being briefly smacked aside in the fight, it occurred to Ratchet that the corpses were being animated by AllSpark energy stolen from the [[AllSpark Mutation]]s, and this knowledge turned the tide before the Autobots were wiped out. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 7|Starscream's Militia}}
Ratchet was part of the outnumbered human-Autobot resistance in the conquered [[United States of America]]. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 10|Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 2}} Along with [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]], he infiltrated a Decepticon facility disguised as a (purple) Payload to stop them using the [[AllSpark]] to transform Earth, and he reluctantly decided to let the AllSpark be destroyed if it was the only way to save Earth.
Ratchet's quick tactical thinking (absorbing nearby ore to reform his offensive weaponry and armour) immediately turned the tide against the Decepticon, but only the arrival of [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee and her crew]] stopped him from being gunned down by Swindles. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 12|Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 4}} Despite this, drone numbers were against them, and Ratchet didn't believe they could pull off a victory until he noticed a way to bypass the AllSpark's defensive forcefield and destroy the Cube with regular weaponry. Ratchet did this, saving Earth at the cost of the AllSpark, though he begged for forgiveness as he destroyed it. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 13|Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 5}}

To his relief, a fragment of the AllSpark had survived. Optimus, worried about the fragment being corrupted by exposure to Megatron, made Ratchet its guardian. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 14|Aftermath Part 1}} However, in the face of great Decepticon numbers, Ratchet took an unauthorised risk and used the fragment to bring Jazz back to life. The fragment's corruption meant Jazz was brought back amoral and self-serving, and Ratchet was left distraught at what he'd done.  {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 16|Dark Spark}}
When the Autobots received an SOS from Ironhide's team on Cybertron, the entire team mobilised to head there. Ratchet hurriedly picked up [[Mikaela Banes]] so she could watch their base, ignoring every single traffic law as he did so. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 19|Return to Cybertron: Part 3}} When on Cybertron, Ratchet found himself in battle against [[Unicron]], trying to separate him from the [[Nucleon]] he was using to power his physical body (a possessed Cybertron!). It became clear fast that the Autobot's plan was not going to work fast enough, but Ratchet realised that such a large structure would have an energy distribution network around them; rather than drain the Nucleon manually, he sped things up by having everyone shoot the distribution network until it blew up, causing the energy to be used up in an internal fire. Who needs a [[Matrix (disambiguation)|Matrix]] when you have Ratchet! {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 20|Return to Cybertron: Part 4}}
Many years before the war, First Officer Ratchet was a member of the [[Science Division]] on Cybertron. He was there when [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] of the [[Defense Force]], looking over his shoulder, visited the Science Division.  {{storylink|Foundation issue 2|Foundation #2}}

Later, he greeted Commander [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] when the latter returned from a patrol in the [[Eshems Nebula]] and repaired his wounds. When he reported of promising findings in the archaeological site near the temple of [[Simfur]], Starscream was somewhat dismissive of the science division's efforts in light of their previous failures. Later, at the excavation site, [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]] tweaked Ratchet by asking if the artifacts found were as old as the first officer. Ratchet exaggerated being upset and deployed his various tools, threatening Jazz that he was just as good as disabling [[Processors#Vocal processors|vocal processors]] as he was fixing them. When Optimus walked off with Protector [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], Ratchet wacked Jazz on the back of the head. He was present when [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]]'s team found a strange artifact with the [[Decepticon|strange symbol]] and helped escort the relic out of the dig site when the aliens whom Starscream had encountered earlier suddenly attacked the planet. {{storylink|Defiance issue 1|Defiance #1}}

After the alien attack ceased, Ratchet and Arcee analysed the remains of the attackers at a laboratory in [[Burthov]], discovering that the aliens were similar in structures to Cybertronians, even to the point of having something similar to a [[spark]] core, but only lacked the means to [[Transformation|transform]]. Before they could speculate further, [[Signal Flare (Movie)|Signal Flare]] arrived, with orders from Optimus to assemble for a meeting immediately. At the gathering, Optimus explained how Megatron was demanding they betray their principals of pacifism to go to war with the aliens, and while he implored to the members of his science division to not leave with the army, he also said they could freely choose to go without fear of reprimand. Naturally, Ratchet stayed on Optimus' side. {{storylink|Defiance issue 2|Defiance #2}}

[[Image:Defiance3_labwork_RatchetArceeElita.jpg|thumb|250px|]]

Hoping to learn some answers about the mysterious relic, Ratchet, [[Elita-One (Movie)|Elita-One]] and Arcee took most of the recovered fragments found at the dig site to the lab for immediate examination. After Optimus Prime, Jazz and [[Prowl (Movie)|Prowl]] broke into Megatron's quarters to get a close look at the intact relic, Ratchet was surprised to learn that the ancient monolith seemed to be in better than had found it in. An unexpected shock same when analysis of the fragments detected the same symbol in the same area on all the different pieces, and what's more, the symbol was also on Optimus's head. Ratchet claimed that this was proof that the [[Dynasty of Primes]] existed, and that Optimus was linked to them. Later, at a dig site near [[Burthov]], Ratchet bestowed the name Optimus '''''Prime''''' on his leader, with the opinion that it had a nice ring to it, though Optimus himself thought it might mean "[[Optimus Prime (G1)#Dreamwave comics continuity|records clerk]]" for all they knew. Examining the ruins, Optimus wondered aloud why only the relic Megatron possessed remained intact, leading Ratchet to hypothesis that the others had been smashed deliberately. Further speculation was halted by Prowl's security detachment, who had orders to arrest Optimus on flimsy charges of treason. As they were being led away, what no one in the group realised was Megatron had marked all but Optimus for death. Ratchet assisted in the recovery of Prowl when [[Brawl (Movie)|Brawl]] fired an explosive shell into the convoy. As the group made a run for Burthov, Optimus Prime personally took care of Starscream's group. {{storylink|Defiance issue 3|Defiance #3}}
===''Ghosts of Yesterday'' prequel novel===
Ratchet was part of the crew of the ''[[Ark (Movie)|Ark]]'' as it searched for the AllSpark. In 1969, in a remote star system, they encountered an alien ship, ''[[Ghost 1]]'', which seemed Cybertronian in design. Ratchet remained on the ''Ark'' as the others went to check it out, but the alien ship headed down for a nearby planet before they could do so. When the Decepticons turned up and attacked, Ratchet provided support fire for his comrades from the ''Ark''.

When [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]], who'd gone to try and scout out the ''Ghost 1'', lost communications with the ''Ark'', Ratchet informed [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus]]. Prime left to find the Autobot scout, leaving the others with orders to abandon them should the Decepticons attack again, something Ratchet wasn't keen on doing. As it happened, the Decepticons did attack again, but not before Ratchet had made some improvements to the defense systems on the ''Ark'', which would help keep them out. He again provided support fire for [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] and [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], but when [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] returned to reinforce the Decepticons, the pair had to retreat to the ''Ark''.

Though Jazz said they should leave, Ratchet was determined to stay until Optimus and Bumblebee returned. The two missing Autobots showed up before it turned into an issue, and Prime called the trio out of the ''Ark'' to engage the Decepticons in battle. Ratchet and Bumblebee fought [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]], though the Decepticon was almost too much for them to handle. When the Autobots realised that [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]] had managed to sneak on board the ''Ark'', Ratchet was forced to return to the ship. He forcibly ejected Scoponok and began laying into the small Decepticon, leading an already badly damaged [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout]] to come to his partner's aid. The battle ended with an act of self-sacrifice from the ''Ghost 1'' crew, which greatly impressed the Autobots. {{storylink|Ghosts of Yesterday}}
Hearing [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee's]] call for assistance, Ratchet and the other Autobots under Optimus Prime's direct command came to Earth, with Ratchet crashing into a storefront. As emergency crews and [[Café kid|bystanders]] observed the wreckage, Ratchet assumed the vehicle mode of a nearby Hummer H2 rescue vehicle and drove away.

Ratchet linked up with [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] and [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], then made their way to a deserted alley to meet up with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and their new [[Sam Witwicky|human]] [[Mikaela Banes|friends]]. After being introduced as the unit's medical officer, Ratchet remarked that his sensors indicated that Sam's pheromone levels suggested he wanted to mate with Mikaela. (Neither Sam nor Mikaela appreciated this comment.) He also explained how Bumblebee's [[Circuits|voicebox]] was damaged and that he had been having trouble fixing it for some time.

Following Sam to his house, Ratchet and their other Autobots unwittingly caused much destruction to the Witwicky yard and stress to Sam when they attempted to help the boy look for his [[Archibald Witwicky|grandfather's]] glasses. After Sam told them to hide, Ratchet accidentally walked into some power lines, which shocked him enough to make him fall onto a greenhouse. Ratchet found the experience tingly and suggested to Ironhide that he try it, and Ironhide sarcastically mused that it looked fun, but unfortunately, it had caused a neighborhood-wide blackout, making the search for the glasses much more difficult. Ratchet attempted to help by activating his powerful floodlights, which only succeeded in making [[Ron Witwicky|the]] [[Judy Witwicky|parents]] investigate Sam's room. When Ironhide remarked that Sam's parents were annoying, Ratchet sarcastically agreed with him with a triple "yeah". Ironhide then requested Prime's permission to "take them out," and Ratchet, suddenly alarmed, tried to stop the massive cannon only with words and a hand. Maybe that power surge did more damage than suspected.

[[Image:Movie Ratchet Ironhide runSam.jpg|right|300px|thumb|Oh, that hurt!]]

Soon, Sam, Mikaela and his parents were captured by the mysterious [[Sector Seven]]. Ratchet and the other Autobots totally outclassed the S7 agents by instantly disarming them of their weapons, then rescuing the boy and his girl. Their dramatic escape was to be short-lived, and Bumblebee was captured while saving his human friends' lives. The next morning, the remaining Autobots gathered to discuss their options. Whether through intuition or some technological means, Ratchet announced that the Decepticons were preparing to make their move. Optimus Prime declared that if they could not defeat the Decepticons, he would fuse the [[AllSpark]] with his own [[spark]], hopefully destroying it. Ratchet cautioned him against this action, as the raw power of the artifact would likely kill him. Prime replied that it was his own choice, and to save the humans from destruction and the mistakes of the Transformers, it was a sacrifice that he was willing to make. Inspired by his words, the Autobots headed to [[Hoover Dam]], before encountering Bumblebee leading a column of Sector Seven vehicles headed in the opposite direction.

As the large group arrived in [[Mission City]], it was attacked by [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]], with the explosion crippling Bumblebee. At the same time, [[Brawl (Movie)|Devastator]] attacked the surviving human soldiers, prompting Ratchet and Jazz to engage the large Decepticon. As Jazz destroyed one of Devastator's rocket pods, Ratchet used his buzzsaw to slice off the tank's left arm.

[[Image:Movie Prime Jazz Ironhide Ratchet battleaftermath.jpg|left|300px|thumb|"We lost a great comrade."<br/> ...*toss*]]

[[William Lennox|Captain Lennox]] ordered Sam to take the AllSpark to the rooftop of a nearby, run-down building so he could pass the cube to a military helicopter that would soon arrive. Ratchet and Ironhide volunteered themselves to protect Sam as he made his escape. Unfortunately, the villainous Starscream swooped down to block Sam's path, forcing the Autobots to engage him in a rather one-sided battle that left them both damaged. Ratchet and Ironhide collapsed, and Sam had to continue on his own.

After the defeat of Megatron and the destruction of the AllSpark, Ratchet somberly informed Optimus Prime that he could not save the fallen Jazz. Later, as Optimus declared that Earth was their new home and that his team would be waiting for any surviving Autobots to gather there, Ratchet spent the remainder of the day observing Sam and Mikaela making out on the hood of Bumblebee's vehicle mode. {{storylink|Transformers (2007)|Transformers}}
Ratchet crushed the hostile creature with his foot, but was surprised to discover that it contained substances loaded with stimulants and ingredients harmful to humans such as Sam and Mikaela. After repairing Bumblebee and retrieving Jazz's remains, the Autobots rolled out to evade Sector Seven. Ratchet arrived at Sector Seven's secret base in the [[Nevada]] desert with the other Autobots to help escort the Decepticon remains to [[California|San Diego, California]]. He stayed with Prime when the Autobot leader sent Bumblebee and Ironhide back to retrieve the AllSpark sliver Prime had left in Sector Seven's care. {{storylink|Alliance issue 2|Alliance #2}} The convoy returned to the base anyway after the level of destruction caused by the Decepticons was reported. Ratchet could be seen assisting the damaged Bumblebee. By the time the Autobots were on [[United States Navy|US Navy aircraft carrier]] weeks later for Jazz's burial-at-sea, Ratchet had repaired Bumblebee's outer panels (giving him a new body kit), but was evidently unable to fully restore Bumblebee's [[Processors#Vocal processors|vocal processor]]s. After Optimus Prime disabled Dead End, Ratchet did not detect any energy readings in the Decepticon. After the Decepticons were dealt with, Optimus and Major Lennox agreed that the Decepticons would most likely pursue Sam Witwicky again, and so he ''must'' be protected. As Bumblebee left, a sad Ratchet thanked the younger Autobot and promised that they'll keep working on his vocal processors, being sure that they could get them working again. Soon, more Decepticons were being sighted on Earth, and during a subsequent battle in [[Florida]], Ratchet was pinned to the ground by the much larger [[Incinerator (Movie)|Incinerator]]. Ratchet used his hand saw to cut into the Decepticon's ankle, distracting Incinerator enough for Optimus Prime to run his energy sword through him. An event that brought joy and hope to all was the arrival of new Autobot refugees to Earth, though this was tempered with the news of even more Decepticon sightings, and training of the new recruits were put to the test when [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]] was spotted in [[Shanghai]]. {{Storylink|Alliance issue 4|Alliance #4}}
Ratchet stayed at NEST's [[Diego Garcia]] base during the team's mission in [[China|Shanghai]]. He was deployed when [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]—who was resurrected with the [[AllSpark]] shard stolen from the NEST facility—began hunting for [[Sam Witwicky]]. Along with his comrades, Ratchet came too late to aid [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]], who was protecting Sam from Megatron, [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] and [[Grindor (ROTF)|Grindor]]. Ratchet ordered Bumblebee to get Sam to safety, while he and the rest of the Autobots provided cover fire, driving Megatron and Starscream off. The Autobots then located Prime's body, but there was nothing Ratchet could do for him: Optimus Prime was dead.

NEST returned to a US airbase with Optimus' body, only to be surrounded by [[United States military]] forces who had grown fearful of the Autobots' presence attracting more Decepticons to Earth following Prime's death. Director [[Theodore Galloway]], who was behind NEST's shutdown, believed that humanity was sufficiently advanced enough to battle off the Decepticons, and also announced that they would buy time by negotiating with the Decepticons. Ratchet made no effort to conceal his low opinion of Galloway, believing him a "terribly misinformed" fool. Ratchet himself suggested that if the Autobots were unwelcomed, then they should simply leave Earth, but [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] opined that Optimus would not want them to leave. However, Prime was still weakened and [[the Fallen]] arrived to steal the Matrix so he could activate his [[star harvester]]. A defected Decepticon named [[Jetfire (ROTF)|Jetfire]] sacrificed himself so Optimus could use his parts to fly to the star harvester: Ratchet ordered [[Jolt (ROTF)|Jolt]] to electrify Jetfire's body and begin a full transplant of the weapons systems and afterburners onto Optimus. The four of them came under attack from Starscream, but defeated him by driving him into range of Ratchet's EMP blaster. {{storylink|Cyber Missions 12}} Optimus's later plan to lure the Decepticons to a spot in the wilderness was a success, and while Optimus and Megatron battled, Ratchet, Ironhide and Bumblebee ambushed the rest of the enemy. Ratchet faced off against [[Bludgeon (ROTF)|Bludgeon]], using his EMP blaster to block the Decepticon's sword blows. The fight effectively ended when the [[human]]s turned up in force to help surround the Decepticons, and Optimus gave Megatron the ultimatum to get off the planet or be destroyed. Arcee informed him that Sam Witwicky and Bumblebee were trapped along with her, but before Ratchet could do anything to help, Space Case attacked again. Three years after [[Operation: Firestorm]], Ratchet accompanied Optimus Prime to Ukraine to investigate a piece of ancient Autobot technology discovered there, but left the fighting to his leader when [[Shockwave (Movie)|Shockwave]] and the [[Driller]] attacked the NEST soldiers. It was revealed that the artifact was an engine part from the long lost Autobot ship, the ''[[Ark (DOTM)|Ark]]'', and had been retrieved by the Russians during the Space Race. Ratchet watched as Optimus explained to National Intelligence Director [[Charlotte Mearing]] the importance of this discovery, and Ratchet again joined Optimus to the Moon aboard the ''[[Xantium (DOTM)|Xantium]]'' to reach the ''Ark'' on the moon. Upon exploration of the wrecked ship's crash vault, the two discovered [[Sentinel Prime (ROTF)|Sentinel Prime]] in deep stasis, Ratchet noting that his vitals were running low, and he also bore possession of five pillars.
Back on Earth, Ratchet greeted [[Sam Witwicky|Sam]] and [[Carly Spencer]] with the flashing of his emergency lights in vehicle mode. He was then a witness to Optimus reviving Sentinel with the [[Matrix of Leadership]] along with some of the other Autobots, and reassured the former Autobot leader that there was nothing to fear. However when Sentinel betrayed the Autobots, executed [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]], and brought an army of Decepticons to Earth, the United Nations were forced to exile the Autobots on the Decepticon's demands. However, the group actually hid in a piece of the ship that detached during liftoff. Ratchet and the Autobots rejoined with Sam and [[Robert Epps|Epps]] in Decepticon-controlled Chicago, and in the subsequent battle defeated many Decepticons. Ratchet defiantly put up a fight as he was forced to the ground at gunpoint with [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]], [[Sideswipe (Movie)|Sideswipe]], [[Mirage (Movie)|Dino]] and [[Wheeljack (Movie)|Que]] when they were captured. The Decepticons began executing them, starting with Que, but when [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] and [[Brains]] caused a distraction, and the battle was renewed. Ratchet took down more Decepticons, and helped his leader and fellow Autobots take on Sentinel Prime himself, but even all of their combined strength could not defeat Sentinel. After the Autobots defeated the last of the Decepticons, Ratchet shot at the Control Pillar to help destroy it, and it took Cybertron with it.
When the long-silent Decepticons made their reappearance with a sudden and brutal attack on a city, Ratchet and Ironhide were dispatched to assist their NEST allies. Ratchet busied himself with aiding with the evacuation while Ironhide entered the city proper to drive out the Decepticons.

When the evacuation was complete, Ratchet went into the city to provide backup, but stumbled upon the main Decepticon force and their commander Mixmaster. As Ironhide fought his way to him, Ratchet made a stand in a factory. Though he was able to put up a good fight and destroyed numerous Decepticons with accurate headshots (Optimus would've approved), he was unable to stand for long against Mixmaster. The Constructicon beat him within an inch of his life and nearly killed him when Ironhide arrived.

Ironhide managed to chase off Mixmaster, but Ratchet was not in fighting shape. The Autobot weapons expert was forced to engage wave after wave of Decepticon reinforcements while his friend desperately carried out emergency repairs. Once the repairs were done, he gave Ironhide backup and the Decepticons withdrew.
====Autobots/Decepticons====
[[Image:DOTMDS Ratchet.jpg|thumb|200px|right]]
Ratchet had a habit of creeping up on Autobots when he wanted to talk to him. He asked [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus]] if the recent attacks in town were Decepticons, as he was concerned that their ancient enemies had returned. While heading for the Stadium to investigate a disturbance, he was intercepted by Optimus, who took over the mission instead. Ratchet warned him that [[Soundwave (ROTF)|Soundwave]] was lurking nearby, and they'd intercepted a transmission about something called "[[Shockwave (Movie)|Shockwave]]". When the Decepticons kept drawing the Autobots away from a NEST construction site, Ratchet worked himself into a state, and Mirage promised to investigate. Ratchet also alerted Optimus when the Decepticons attacked a NEST island base in the [[Pacific]]. On another occasion he managed to surprise Mirage when giving the Autobot the news that [[Lockdown (ROTF)|Lockdown]] had started sabotaging the communications dishes in the Autobot base. While Mirage dealt with that problem, Ratchet sent [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] to deal with Soundwave and Crowbar, though he passed on Optimus's orders to let Soundwave get away. After coordinating Mirage and Ironhide in an invasion of the Decepticon base in [[Siberia]], Ratchet met with Ironhide and Bumblebee within the base itself, and sent the latter to scout out the rest of the base. He was shocked when Optimus decided to go after Megatron alone, but after the end of the mission, rendezvoused outside with the other Autobots. {{storylink|Transformers: Dark of the Moon: Autobots/Decepticons|Dark of the Moon: Autobots/Decepticons}}
[[Image:Movie_Ratchet_2005Concept.jpg|thumb|300px|Early Ratchet laughs at your premature rejection.]]

* Ratchet's early design would later go on to inspire the [[Toys"R"Us]] exclusive [[Inferno (Movie)|Inferno]] and his own ''Dark of the Moon'' "Specialist" redeco.
* In the film, a part of Ratchet's transformation involves his entire upper body rotating around. The main Voyager class toy does not do this, but [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]]'s does.
* The Hummer H2 prop vehicle used for the 2007 movie sports the [[license plate]] "6Q49935", with a "CA Exempt" registration reserved for Californian government and emergency vehicles. Barely visible in set photos, the same plate was also used for the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung in Frankfurt, Germany in September 2007.<ref name="ratchetshow">[http://www.flickr.com/photos/pierrethurau/3076713309/ "Ratchet" Hummer H2 prop vehicle at the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung in Frankfurt, Germany in September 2007]</ref> In ''Revenge of the Fallen'', Ratchet sports ''no'' license plate. On the ''Dark of the Moon'' Chicago set, the redecoed Hummer H2 car prop sported the license plate "9999963", again with a "CA Exempt" registration.<ref name="chicago">[http://www.seibertron.com/live-action-films/gallery.php?id=133&size=0&start=50 Dark of the Moon Chicago set] at Seibertron.com.</ref>
* According to [[Meet the Autobots]], Ratchet has X-ray vision, which lets him see for miles.
* In the hardcover [[Transformers: The Movie Guide|''Transformers: The Movie Guide'']], it is noted that Ratchet can cannibalize his own parts for emergency treatment of a patient; he carries within him redundant systems for such situations. (This only turns up once in a story though, in [[Transformers Comic issue 16|one of Titan's issues]]) He can also tow up to 300 lbs over his own weight in vehicle form, and his specialization isn't listed as being a medic, but in actually '''getting''' to the wounded.
* In the hardcover ''[[Transformers: The Movie Guide|The Movie Guide]]'' it is noted that Ratchet is one of the few Autobots that could conceivably give Megatron a decent fight one-on-one before being dismembered and fed upon.
* In the Transformers guide to the movie, the book proclaims that "Ratchet carefully chose his landing site to avoid loss of human life." Yet he is seen crashing in the middle of the street, causing fires and several minor explosions. Maybe Ratchet ''thought'' he was avoiding loss of human life.
* Ratchet's toy packaging proclaims he has an "[[Automorph Technology|Automorph]] Forearm Cannon". However, the toy obviously lacks this weapon. At the Hasbro Tour during [[BotCon 2007]], an early design [[prototype]] of Ratchet was displayed during a slide show, with similar callouts. Presumably, the forearm cannon was attempted, but dropped due to either engineering issues or cost.
* Ratchet is the only Autobot introduced in the first ''Transformers'' film never to have been given a close-up transformation sequence in the first film or its sequels, ''Revenge of the Fallen'' and ''Dark of the Moon''.
* Ratchet's toys are part of a matrix of cross-referencing [[Redeco|redecos]], along with [[Ratchet (Animated)|''Animated'' Ratchet]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Generation 1 Ratchet]]:
** In 2008, the original Generation 1 Ratchet mold got an [[e-Hobby]] exclusive green redeco in Japan as "Ratchet Emergency Green" in obvious reference to his movie counterpart.
** The red and white "Rescue Ratchet" redecos of movie Ratchet's toys are based on [[Ratchet (G1)|Generation 1 Ratchet]]'s original toy.
** ''Animated'' Ratchet, his original design already referencing both predecessors with Generation 1 Ratchet's chevron and coloring and movie Ratchet's squiggly EEG symbol, had a further homage to the latter with a yellow redeco as (another) "Rescue Ratchet".
*Included with the downloadable content for the Revenge of the Fallen game on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 is a red and white color skin for Ratchet. Clearly, he needs to pick a color palette and commit!
* Contrary to what is implied or outright stated by everything from the Rescue Ratchet deco to the words of the moviemakers themselves, Ratchet is ''not,'' in fact, an ambulance.
* The ''Dark of the Moon'' site on Transformers.com says Ratchet's current status is: "Currently studying the implications of human pheromone levels." Creepy, dude!
* Ratchet and Bumblebee are the only ones of the original five Autobots to survive all three films and to have never died.
* Ratchet is the basis for the non-toy character [[Umeda Prime]].

The '''''Harbinger''''' was a Decepticon transport shot down by the [[Autobot]]s, which then crashed on [[Earth]]. In pieces.
While carrying a prototype weapon, the ''Harbinger'' was shot down by the Autobots in orbit over Earth. Cut in half by the battle, the bow landed in a forest and was covered up in time. The stern landed in a canyon and was noticeably ''not'' buried. When the ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]'' arrived on Earth, [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] scouted both parts of the ship, but found nothing of interest and left. However, he did not log the ''Harbinger''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s location in the computers.

After [[Airachnid]] informed [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] that the ''Harbinger'' was carrying the [[Immobilizer]] prototype, Starscream took Airachnid to the bow section, where Airachnid accessed the ship's computer systems. This in turn alerted the Autobots to their actions, resulting in [[Team Prime]] heading to investigate. Starscream was then forced to tell Airachnid where the stern section was after being webbed up. Airachnid then made her way to the crash site, and managed to find the Immobilizer, only to lose it in a fight with the Autobots. {{storylink|Partners}}
Many months later, Starscream returned to the ''Harbinger'' in search of energon. Instead he found a laboratory containing [[protoform]]s and cloning equipment, which he used to create five clones of himself. Later the soul surviving clone returned to the ship, only to be killed by the real Starscream. {{storylink|Armada (episode)|Armada}}

==Trivia==
*The Harbinger appears to be of a similar class of ship as the ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]''.
