Synopsis
The Maximals have set up a system to keep their orchard supplied with the organic goo provided by Cybertron, and are holding a memorial service for Rhinox, unaware that they're being spied on by Tankor. Tankor is also spying on Megatron, who asks Jetstorm and Thrust what happened to the third of his Vehicon generals prior to his apparent death. The Diagnostic Drone informs Megatron about the discovery of the Key to Vector Sigma, and the (decoy) Tankor's subsequent overloading while using it. The Drone suggests attaching copies of the Key to the drones and using them to purge Cybertron of all organic matter. When Megatron asks what it'll do to his beast mode, the Drone says it will be eliminated, and inadvertently begins to repeat Tankor's ramblings about how it will also drive Megatron mad, before covering his blunder. Although suspicious, Megatron orders the key be attached to Aero and cycle drones and tested on a Maximal, much to Tankor's annoyance.

Rattrap uses the ancient computers to run a planet-wide search for more organic goop, but is interrupted by Blackarachnia, who needs the goo herself to try to turn Thrust back into Silverbolt. Rattrap reluctantly lets her take the sample.

Meanwhile, the Diagnostic Drone is taking Jetstorm and Thrust on a wild goose chase on Tankor's orders. Tankor intends to give Megatron a change of heart.

Rattrap has had some measure of success, turning up a catalyst program. He returns to the orchard, where the catalyst dramatically increases the plant-growth, and he's carried into the air by vines. Optimus, Nightscream and Cheetor turn up to rescue him from the clutches of the plantlife.

Blackarachnia locates the searching Vehicons and attacks, seizing Thrust and carrying him off. The Aero drones zap her web line with the keys they're carrying, and she's forced to detach, falling to the ground.

Optimus tells Rattrap to try his experiments on a small scale next time, but the other Maximals think he's wrong and that the fast-growing vines would be a great weapon against Megatron. Optimus goes to commune with the Oracle while the others clear up.

Up in the city, Blackarachnia knocks out Jetstorm and the Diagnostic Drone before leading Thrust to a more secluded location where she traps him in a web. Dosed with goo, Thrust reverts to his old personality—Waspinator. Waspinator explains that he got bored on prehistoric Earth and flew back to Cybertron. Blackarachnia is more than a little disappointed that he's not Silverbolt, but they're interrupted by Jetstorm, who knocks the container of goo from Blackarachnia's hand and is dosed with it. Jetstorm's old personality comes out, and this time it's Silverbolt.

Rattrap admits to Cheetor and Nightscream what the spider's up to. Nightscream volunteers to get Optimus, but Cheetor has other plans. Optimus, meanwhile, is having problems accessing the Oracle.

Silverbolt and Waspinator fight over Blackarachnia, but they're interrupted by the arrival of aero and motorcycle drones, which neither Vehicon realises they can control. The power of the Keys eliminates the goo, reverting Thrust and Jetstorm to their normal selves, and they order the drones to close in. Fortunately the other three Maximals burst in riding a giant vine, and pick up Blackarachnia, whisking her away to safety.

Diagnostic Drone reports failure to Megatron, but he's been monitoring the situation anyway. The drones zap the huge vine with their keys, changing it to technomatter. The Maximals leap off before they're infected, but Rattrap announces they have to sever the vines to stop the infection spreading to the orchid and Cybertron's organic core. They race alongside the vine, chasing the infection until it reaches the orchid. Optimus spots the problem and frantically begins breaking vines. He succeeds, and rounds on Cheetor for disobeying orders, before informing him that he believes the Oracle has been tampered with.

Tankor, through the Diagnostic Drone, convinces Megatron to load the Key into all of the tank drones, and muses to himself that it's all thanks to the catalyst program he let Rattrap find.
Notes
Technical/animation glitches
*During Megatron's conversation with the Diagnositc Drone at the beginning of the episode, his scar switches several times between his left and right eyes.

Continuity errors
* Silverbolt and Waspinator seem unaware that they are in Vehicon bodies with drones at their command. This is odd, considering that Rhinox was fully aware (or so he claims) within the body of Tankor, and even more so when Silverbolt feels guilt when he finally returns to the Maximal fold (although these can both be chalked up to the Maximals tampering with their respective programming). Even a few seconds before Waspinator acts oblivious to his command over the drones, he confesses "Chickbots dig brooding, loner bit!", acknowledging his role as Thrust. Huh?

Transformers references
* Silverbolt and Waspinator's Beast Wars personalities emerge in this episode, albeit for a few minutes.

Real-world references
* None identified as of yet.

Trivia
* It seems unusual that Megatron would threaten the Diagnostic Drone with a spark extractor, seeing as how it doesn't have a spark to begin with.
* Palm tree is the most ecological way to time-travel.
* So Waspinator was able to break through Vehicon programming when facing Blackarachnia but Silverbolt either never was or just didn't, and he never did later even when his true love was directly appealing to him. This raises worrying questions about either Waspinator or Silverbolt, especially the latter as he'll later admit how much he loved being a murderous villain...
:Hydra is a human and Decepticon Godmaster from the Super-God Masterforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Hydra was a talented actor in his home country of East Germany, but apparently celluloid stardom wasn't exciting enough for this burgeoning young sociopath. Hydra became involved with the American criminal underworld, using his talent for disguise to become an assassin who was soon regarded as one of the best in the business. Cold, uncaring and extreme in his methods, Hydra already considered himself above most other people, so when the Decepticons arrived on the scene and offered him even greater power, he happily seized upon the opportunity.

As a Godmaster, Hydra is bonded to a Transtector from the G Nebula and can manipulate Chōkon Power, with his specialty being the control of lightning. He and his younger brother Buster can merge their Transtectors into the giant jet Darkwings. Hydra truly believes that the Decepticons should rule mankind, and is willing even to sacrifice his own humanity to help them accomplish that goal.

Hydra and Buster were in North America when they were approached by Giga and Mega, agents of the Decepticon leader Devil Z, and bonded to a pair of Transtectors that had taken the forms of jet planes. A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai The brothers were brought to a hidden island, where they were trained in the use of their new Godmaster powers until it was decided that they join up with the rest of the Decepticons already operating under the command of Blood. Blood's Pretenders and Headmaster Juniors were summoned to the island, where Hydra and Buster, disguised in suits of medieval armor, promptly attacked and bested them as a demonstration of their powers. Blood bristled at the notion that two humans could be stronger than true Decepticons, and challenged the two Godmasters to prove themselves by attacking the Mt Fuji Foothills Hang Gliding Competition Tournament. It just so happened that the Autobot Headmaster Juniors were participating in the contest, leading to a battle between the Godmaster brothers and the Autobot Pretenders. Although they had their Autobot foes massively overpowered, the arrival of Metalhawk left them outnumbered, and the brothers opted to withdraw. Super Warriors - The Godmaster Brothers Hydra and Buster next went into battle when the Decepticons attacked the tidal power plant on Viscas Island, but the battle was brought to an end when Buster was injured by Diver and Hydra called retreat. A Fierce Battle!! The Autobots Are in Trouble

When Mega and Giga revealed that there were other Godmasters on Earth, Hydra and Buster were charged with locating them before the Autobots did. Hydra decided to search North America first, on the basis that it was where they became Godmasters themselves, and with a little help from the Headmaster Juniors, the brothers were soon on the trail of a mysterious truck that had been rumoured to be able to heal any damage to itself. The brothers found the truck crashed at the bottom of a cliff along with the Autobot Diver, but when they attempted to take it, the truck's driver, Ginrai, revealed that he was indeed a Godmaster, and that that truck was his Transtector, by transforming to robot mode for the first time. Shocked by what they had witnessed, Hydra and Buster retreated. A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai Before long, however, the brothers were back on Ginrai's trail, and attacked numerous tractor trailers in their search for him, killing many of Ginrai's trucker friends before finally locating him. Hydra took Ginrai on alone, but at an inopportune moment, the rays of the sun reflected off a picture Ginrai was carrying and blinded Hydra, forcing him to call for a retreat. Ginrai: God On of Rage!!

When Cancer was captured by the Autobots for interrogation, Hydra and Buster arrived to retrieve him. The Autobots released their prisoner, but Hydra immediately discovered a homing beacon planted on Cancer's shirt, and attacked the Autobots in retribution. While battling Ginrai, Hydra was distracted when Cancer protected the kindly Autobot Minerva from Buster, allowing Ginrai to turn the tide of the battle and force the villains to fall back. A Strange Friendship: Cancer and Minerva Things didn't go much better during the brothers' next battle with Ginrai, at Mount Yatsugatake in Nagano, where there brothers were blasted by Ginrai's newly-obtained trailer. Friend or Foe!? The True Form of the Monster!!

Hungry for revenge, Hydra and Buster were not content simply with destroying Ginrai, but also sought to discredit him and the Autobots into the bargain. Luring Ginrai into a battle in a city, the brothers loudly blamed him for starting the battle so that the population could overhear, and then summoned some Lobclaw Seacons to finish the Autobot off. Luckily, Diver and Lander arrived to deal with the Seacons, and the enraged Ginrai unleashed a blast of Chōkon Power that saw the villains off. Eliminate the Godmaster Ginrai

Learning that Ginrai had appeared on television show in an attempt to find the remaining Godmasters on Earth, Hydra and Buster tried menacing a producer at the TV station in order to find out what Ginrai had learned from the correspondence that had come in. The tactic had no luck, so they resorted to searching the continent with the help of the Pretenders; the Pretenders later found Ginrai in Canada, but were unable to stop the next Godmaster, Lightfoot from joining the Autobots. Lightfoot: A Dramatic Encounter After this failure, the Decepticons were even more determined to recruit the next Godmaster, a Canadian forest patrolman named Ranger. During the battle with the Autobots that resulted in the Rocky Mountains, however, Hydra and Buster were left badly outnumbered and had to flee when the Headmaster Juniors abandoned them out of spite after they carelessly put Wilder in danger in their zeal to destroy Ginrai. {{storylink|An Enemy?
Hydra and Buster stepped back from the front lines for a short time, instead trying their hand at formulating a plan for the Pretenders to carry out. This outlandish plot to capture doctors was soon botched, much to their distaste, Save the Little Girl! The Chōjin Warriors, the Godmasters and they again took an active hand in matters, starting with a scheme to divide and conquer the Autobot Godmasters, starting with Lightfoot. Hydra put his makeup talents to use disguising himself and Buster as reporters so that they could get close to Lightfoot's father Leftfoot and take him prisoner. The brothers sent a message to Lightfoot, who was faced with the choice of either joining the Autobots or having his Master-Braces (and hands!) cut off by Hydra, but luckily, the other Autobot Godmasters soon arrived to help give the Darkwings Brothers one of their most severe beatings yet. When Buster's arm was actually torn off, the horrified Hydra called retreat, but they weren't above spitefully blowing up some factory buildings as they left. {{storylink|Life? Death?
After serving as chauffeurs for Mega when she was posing as a fortune teller, Expose the Decepticons' Dark Deception! Hydra and Buster were next charged with destroying Ginrai's trailer. His acting talent again in full swing, Hydra posed as a movie producer named "Billy Hyler" and talked Ginrai into performing some stunt-driving for a movie filming in the desert. Buster was able to plant an explosive charge that separated Ginrai from his trailer, and the brothers combined into Darkwings in an attempt to destroy the latter component. Before they could strike, Ginrai merged with his trailer and blew the villains out of the air with his Special Fire Guts attack. Ginrai was, however, subsequently badly wounded by Giga and Mega's combined form, Overlord, Super Ginrai Gets Blown Away in the Desert!? and the brothers decided to strike while the Autobots were a man down by attempting to destroy the Godbomber drone the heroes were in the midst of constructing. The brothers were duped into following a disguised truck into the nearby mountains, thinking that it was carrying Godbomber, when in fact, it was simply the Autobot, Road King, who joined with Ranger and Lightfoot in beating the brothers to a pulp. Will the Bomber Project Be Destroyed!?

In the next attempt to destroy Godbomber, Hydra and Buster attacked a Middle-East oil refinery in order to draw the Autobots out. Even the cold, cruel Hydra was taken aback, however, when Giga asked if they were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, and later confided in Buster that while he was not afraid of dying in battle, he wasn't willing to sacrifice himself just for victory. Although this plan to destroy Godbomber met with failure, Overlord - Terror of the Chōkon Tornado the Decepticons tried yet again, this time by separating Godbomber from Ginrai and having Hydra and Buster target the unprotected drone. With a little help from Sixknight, however, the Autobot Headmaster Juniors discovered that they were able to pilot Godbomber and were able to defeat the Darkwings Brothers. Destroy Godbomber!!

When the final Godmaster, Clouder, sought out the Decepticons and requested to join them, Hydra had King Poseidon attack him so that he could prove his strength. Appearance!! The Final Godmaster Clouder passed the test, and the Decepticons installed him within the Autobot ranks as a spy, who fed them inside information on the Autobots' base. Having been left to die in the conflagration that destroyed the Autobot base, Clouder turned on his former allies when he resurfaced, and offered to lead the Autobots to a Decepticon base. His discussion with Shūta Gō, however, was overheard by Hydra, who radioed ahead to the Decepticon base, allowing them to lay a trap for the two youths. God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base Later, when the Autobots attacked the Decepticon base in force, Hydra and Buster battled Ginrai and the Godmasters, until Devil Z brought the battle to and end by fusing with BlackZarak and collapsing the base into an undersea chasm. {{storylink|The Ultimate Combination!!
After their numerous defeats at the hands of Ginrai, Hydra came to the conclusion that he and Buster were weakened by their humanity, and the brothers petitioned Devil Z to use his powers to transform them into true robots. The evil being complied, fusing the brothers with their Transtectors and replacing their Jinchōkon Power—lost to them along with their humanity—with his own Devil Power. The Darkwings Brothers attacked Ginrai in the Grand Canyon, and Ginrai, appalled at what they had done to themselves, called upon his God Fire Guts attack. The brothers responded by diving at Ginrai in a flaming "Hellfire Attack", resulting in a huge explosion when the attacks collided. The battered brothers limped away from the battle, declaring it a draw. Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn While Ginrai then went on to battle Overlord, Hydra and Buster attacked Lightfoot and Road King, trapping them in a cave. During the final conflict on the Matterhorn, Hydra and Buster unveiled the mightiest weapon in their arsenal, the "Mach X Flight", allowing them to move faster than the eye could follow. They did not predict, however, that Ginrai could replicate the effect with his own Chōkon Power, and the Autobot once again proved to be their better, searing their bodies with his burning backwash and sending them crashing into the mountain. The brothers rejoined the other Decepticons at the mountain's peak, where BlackZarak unleashed his fury on the two failures, pummelling them until Overlord stepped in to try and stop the punishment. This only resulted in BlackZarak turning on him as well, at which point Ginrai arrived to save his foes and engage BlackZarak in final battle. Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z As the Autobot leader battled BlackZarak, Hydra and Buster recovered from their beating, with Hydra calmly writing it off as proof that they were weak, and that they needed to fight even harder. At that point, the Autobot Godmasters arrived and Hydra and Buster plunged into battle right away, despite the fact that they were on the verge of collapse. Eventually, they could fight no further, and combined into Darkwings to flee. In the moments that followed, Ginrai succeeded in destroying BlackZarak and Devil Z, which resulted in all the other humans becoming separated from their Transtectors. The Transtectors themselves continued to live as true super-robot lifeforms, and Hydra and Buster promptly joined with the other Decepticons in departing Earth. A Battle... and Then...
Decepticon leaders Giga and Mega unveiled their Godmaster warriors, Hydra and Buster, to the world by sending them to "welcome" the Autobot Godmaster, Ginrai, to Japan. After bombing Tokyo on their way to Harumi Wharf, Hydra and Buster merged into Darkwings and immediately attacked Metalhawk and the Autobot Headmaster Juniors, who were at the wharf awaiting Ginrai's arrival. After taking the Juniors out of the fight, the brothers then transformed into robot mode to tackle Metalhawk, but thankfully, Ginrai chose that moment to make his entrance and promptly launched the villains over the horizon with a blast of Chōkon Power. {{storylink|Enter on the Stage! When the Autobots traveled to the planet Athenia so that Ginrai could be appointed Supreme Commander, Hydra and Buster followed, joining up with the other Decepticons out in space and attacking the planet with Scramble 7. Cancer isn't a bad kid—he's just been dealt a bad hand. An orphan raised at a martial arts dojo in his home country of China, Cancer was bullied by the other pupils, but was determined to become as strong as he could in order to put the dojo on the map. Unfortunately, that's when the Decepticons came along, and Cancer saw joining them as an opportunity to achieve this goal. Alas, Cancer got a little lost in the opportunities he was offered to run wild and be the "tough guy" for the first time, and with the husband-and-wife team of Giga and Mega leading the villains, he has found a sense of family in the Decepticons that he had never enjoyed before. But Cancer doesn't really want to hurt anyone, and the evil of the Decepticons is steadily growing less and less palatable for this troubled youth...

As a Decepticon Headmaster Junior warrior, Cancer is bonded to a Transtector from the planet Master, which takes the form of a bipedal crab monster. He is heir to the powerful martial arts technique known as Chōryūken (超竜拳, "Super Dragon Fist", which involves… kicking the opponent), a skill that greatly impresses his doting surrogate mother, Mega. He considers his fellow Headmaster Juniors Wilder and Bullhorn genuine friends, and is partnered up with the diminutive Browning, who call him "boss" and follows his every command.
Orphaned as an infant, Cancer was taken in by the sensei of the Chōryūken Dojo and raised as his own son. Although embittered thanks to being bullied by the other students at the dojo simply for being an orphan, Cancer adored his sensei and trained hard in the martial arts, intending to become an expert and raise the dojo's profile. When the Decepticons resurfaced on Earth after years of inactivity, Cancer saw the powerful robots as a means to his ends, and joined up with them. Although Cancer would not discover it until months later, his sensei believed that Cancer left because he had turned his back on his teachings and fell ill, ultimately dying of sadness. God Ginrai - Save Cancer!?
Cancer joined up with the Decepticons alongside maladjusted American biker gang leader Wilder and Mexican street thug Bullhorn, and was bonded to a Transtector stolen from an Autobot transport ship. Cancer and his fellow ne'er-do-wells were sequestered in the undersea Decepticon headquarters until Blood finally announced it was time for them to reveal themselves to the world. Alongside some Lobclaw Seacons, Cancer and the Juniors began causing chaos in a city, soon drawing the attention of the Autobots, including their own three recently created Headmaster Juniors. The Autobot Juniors were under orders to stay out of the fight and focus on rescue operations, but Cancer and his compatriots made it tough to follow the order as they pushed and shoved Shūta Gō around while he tried to rescue a baby from a burning building. Thankfully, Metalhawk arrived to see them off, and the day was saved. Birth! Headmaster Jrs
Cancer and the Juniors took something of a back seat following the arrival of the powerful Godmasters Giga, Mega, Hydra and Buster, Super Warriors - The Godmaster Brothers although Mega took an immediate liking to Cancer, and had Gilmer serve as a punching bag to allow Cancer to demonstrate his Super Dragon Fist for her. {{storylink|A Fierce Battle!!

When Ginrai travelled to Japan to visit the other Autobots, Cancer, Wilder and Bullhorn ambushed him en route to the Autobot base, but Ginrai thrashed all three of them soundly. Cancer was taken captive and brought back to the Autobot base for interrogation, but he refused to say anything, even as the kindly Minerva tended his wounds and offered him a drink. Suspecting foul play, Cancer shattered the glass with a kick, cutting Minerva's hand, but even then, the girl would now allow Shūta and Cab to hurt Cancer. When an enraged Ginrai burst into the room and seized Cancer, intending to force whatever information he could from him, Minerva forced him to back down and offered Cancer a drink once more, which the young Decepticon this time gratefully accepted. His resistance worn down, Cancer related to the Autobots the origin of Godmasters as it had been told to him by Giga, and the Autobots agreed to release him. Escorted out of the Autobot base while blindfolded, Cancer was handed over to Hydra and Buster, but they immediately found a homing beacon the Autobots had planted on Cancer's shirt, and attacked the heroes in retribution. Buster seized Minerva and placed his blaster to her head, but Cancer snatched her away to safety, begging the Decepticons not to kill anyone. Startled by this turn of events, Hydra was defeated by Ginrai and ordered a retreat, with Cancer shouting back to Minerva as he ran that his kindness was merely payback for the drink. A Strange Friendship: Cancer and Minerva
Desiring a rematch with Ginrai, Cancer and the Juniors combed Japan for him, eventually spotting him in the background of a news report from Nagano. After losing the resultant battle, Friend or Foe!? The True Form of the Monster!! the trio drowned their sorrows in a bar, where Cancer flipped on the television to an entertainment program, only to discover that Ginrai was making an appearance on the show!
Later, on an island off the coast of America, Cancer and the Juniors showed off their surfing skills to a group of young boys, and then offered to show them something "even cooler"—their Masterforce powers! They proceeded to kidnap the children as part of a plan by the Pretenders to draw out Ginrai. When the Autobots attacked, Minerva attempted to appeal to Cancer, only to have Bullhorn strike her down. During the search for the remaining Godmasters, Cancer joined the Decepticons on a mission into the Rocky Mountains which concluded with the Autobots' recruiting the next Godmaster, Ranger. An Enemy? The Third Godmaster, Ranger The continuing quest next led Cancer and the Juniors to France to investigate a story about a retired race car driver whose vehicle miraculously survived every crash it was in. The trio headed for the small village of Dagneux, where they confronted the racer, Germain, but even Cancer's martial arts skills couldn't stand up to Germain, who strong-armed all three of them out of his bar. The Juniors returned in their Transtectors to tear through the town, but were defeated when their suspicions were proven correct: Germain's car had been a Transtector, but he had passed it on to his protégé, Road King, who became the next Autobot Godmaster and aided his new teammates in seeing the Decepticon Juniors off. {{storylink|At Full Strength!

As time went by, the kindness Minerva had shown Cancer weighed on the boy's mind, and Wilder and Bullhorn's continuous teasing did not help the matter. Noticing that Cancer was depressed, Mega called him to her quarters, where she gave him a present: A small gun Transformer named Browning, with whom Cancer quickly made friends. His spirits bolstered by this kindness, Cancer resolved to prove to Wilder and Bullhorn (and perhaps, to himself) that Minerva meant nothing to him by leading them in an attack on a city in hopes of drawing them out. Unfortunately for the three youths, their attack was responded to by the violent Sixknight, who would have killed them all had Browning not teamed up with Minerva to stop him. The Autobot Warrior, Sixknight?! Even after this catastrophic affair, however, Bullhorn and Wilder were happy to keep up the ribbing when the Juniors were tasked with burning food storehouses in the heartland of America, mocking Cancer for thinking that they were destroying all the food in the country. Destroy Godbomber!!

When the powerful Decepticon BlackZarak joined the Decepticons on Earth, Cancer and the other Juniors headed into space in preparation for the activation of the evil Death Para-Machine. As Cancer pointed out to Wilder when he nearly floated away, they couldn't actually participate in the battle with the Autobots that resulted, as they didn't have boosters to help them fly in space. Crisis! The Day of the Downfall of Humanity Although the Autobots were able to destroy the Death-Para Machine, Cancer had now seen the full extent of Devil Z's evil, and grew even more concerned with his plan to wipe out humanity. Discovering from Wilder that his home town happened to be next on BlackZarak's hit list, the horrified Cancer immediately headed there, running through the streets in his Transtector and shouting for the populous to take refuge in the mountains. Rather than listen to his warnings, however, the crowd simply ran at the sight of him. Amongst the fleeing people, Cancer spotted Chang, an old friend from his days at the dojo, and he disembarked his Transtector to greet him. After Chang calmed down and recognized his friend, the pair had a happy reunion, but the mood darkened when Cancer suggested that they go to their old sensei for help in the evacuation. Chang was forced to reveal that their sensei had died six months prior, but the distraught Cancer could not even grieve for long before he was attacked by two of the dojo's pupils, who blamed him for everything. Browning flattened the thugs, at which point Road King appeared, having overhead Cancer's story. He attempted to empathize with the boy, but the angry Cancer responded by opening fire on him with Browning and escaping. Not long thereafter, BlackZarak arrived in the city and began his attack, and when Cancer's pleas fell on deaf ears, he realized there was truly nothing he could do. About to depart, Cancer's attention was caught by cries from Chang, who had become trapped in a burning building while looking for Cancer. Cancer lifted his friend to safety, but was then inadvertently struck in the back by a stray blast from BlackZarak, and buried beneath a hail of rubble. Browning ran off to find the Autobots who were battling BlackZarak, and at his request, the Autobot Juniors unearthed Cancer while Ginrai battled and defeated BlackZarak. When the battle was over, the Autobots allowed Cancer to leave peacefully, on the basis that he had genuinely tried to save lives, proving that, unlike the other Decepticons, he truly had a heart. God Ginrai - Save Cancer!?
Later, when Clouder resurfaced on the side of the Autobots and was captured alongside Shūta, his announcement that he was betrayed by Turtler and left to die in the conflagration of the destroyed Autobot base only served to amplify Cancer's doubts about the Decepticons cause. Finally, when Ginrai arrived at the Decepticon base to rescue Shūta and Clouder, Cancer finally snapped and opened fire on King Poseidon, blowing its arm off and freeing Shūta from his clutches. As the Seacons lunged at the traitorous Cancer, Bullhorn opened fire on the drones and destroyed them, urging Cancer to get away to safety, and he escaped the base with Browning the Autobots. God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base Cancer proceeded to join up with the Autobots and offer them enough inside information to allow them to perform an all-out attack on the Decepticon base. Faced with the truth of Devil Z's betrayal, Bullhorn and Wilder turned their backs on the Decepticons, but had no interest in joining the Autobots and fighting "for good", and left Cancer behind. During a later battle, however, when things were looking bad for Cancer and the Autobot Juniors, Bullhorn and Wilder unexpectedly returned to help the one person that they still considered their friend win the day. Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn Now reunited, the three Juniors, along with Clouder, accompanied the Autobots to the Grand Canyon on a mission to stop the composite Devil Z/BlackZarak entity. During the battle, however, all four of them were struck with a blast of the villain's Devil Power, and were shocked to find their Master-Braces had disappeared from their wrists. Devil Z had, in fact, separated them from their Transtectors and brought the robot bodies to life as true super-robot lifeforms, all four of which rejoined the Decepticon side. {{storylink|Autobots! Cancer and the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors made their debut when Blood lured the Autobot Juniors into a trap to test the power of their Jinchōkon. When Cancer sneaked out the Decepticon base and went to a city for the New Year celebrations, Cancer disobeyed him and ran away with Browning. Unfortunately, his New Year holidays coincided with an attack by BlackZarak upon the city, and when the Autobots arrived to engage him, the massive Decepticon seized Cancer to use as a bargaining chip. As BlackZarak pummelled the helpless Autobots, Overlord appeared in the skies above and brutally attacked BlackZarak, outraged at his treatment of Cancer. With BlackZarak weakened, the Autobots were able to defeat him, and Cancer returned to the Decepticon base to discover that the reason he had not been allowed to return home was because the Decepticons had wanted to celebrate with him, and had even made decorations. Cancer was disappointed in himself for not trusting his family, but Mega forgave him, and Browning noted that running away never solves anything. Great Turn-Around! Autobots

In the final battle, Devil Z turned against his Decepticon minions, and they united with the Autobots against him. Cancer joined with all the other Transformers in combining his energy into the "Perfect Transform Attack," destroying Devil Z once and for all. With Devil Z's death, the bond he had forged between the humans and their Transtectors was severed, and the Transtectors themselves were truly brought to life. Giga and Mega were revealed to have also been sustained by Devil Z's energies, and his death brought about their own passing, to which Cancer reacted tearfully. The Cancer Headmaster figure fits in a cockpit in the Transtector's stomach (hinged, most unfortunately, at the crotch). The creature's tail disconnects and becomes a weapon for robot mode that sure as heck looks like a double-barrelled gun, but which is referred to as a sword in Cancer's Tech Specs.

:Like all Headmaster toys, Cancer's robot mode features a spring-loaded mini-Tech-Spec-meter in its chest, which gives readings for Speed, Strength and Intelligence (although he and the other Decepticon Junior molds are unique in that their meters are not covered by flip-down panels). The meter is activated when Cancer (or any other Headmaster unit) is plugged into the neck socket; as a small Headmaster, all three readings are on a single tumbler, so any head plugged in will result in the same stats. Cancer has his robot-mode face plainly visible on his back because, as a smaller Headmaster toy, he lacks the flip-down panel that covers the face featured on larger Headmasters.

{{storylink|Friend or Foe!?

{{storylink|Battle to the Death!! {{storylink|Malevolent and Inhuman! A Battle... and Then...
The Autobots were able to defeat Scramble 7, but Buster and Hydra informed them that they had been united under the leadership of Devil Z, and were heading back to Earth to await the Autobots' return. {{storylink|The Battle Begins!

An Enemy? The Third Godmaster, Ranger

Life? Death? Lightfoot Must Choose

Hydra and Buster proceeded to attack a nearby city in order to occupy the attentions of Ginrai and the Godmasters while the rest of the Decepticons initiated an all-out attack on the Autobots' headquarters Secret Orders! Destroy the Autobot Base!! and although the brothers were eventually defeated, the larger plan to destroy the base succeeded. Disaster! The Autobot Base Explodes Soon thereafter, when BlackZarak arrived on Earth, Hydra and Buster traveled into space with the rest of the Decepticons when the villain prepared to unleash the unholy Death Para-Machine upon the Earth, Crisis! The Day of the Downfall of Humanity and later battled Lightfoot in northern Europe. God Ginrai - Save Cancer!?

A Battle... and Then...

Cancer accompanied Wilder when he sought revenge against the Cool Guys, the biker gang that had crossed his in the past, {{storylink|Rage!! On the latter mission, Cancer showed his dirty side by placing a knife to Chris's sister's throat, but Chris took him out of the picture by crashing a motorcycle into him. Go, Goshooter - Showdown in the Wasteland

A Fierce Battle!! The Autobots Are in Trouble When the hunt for the next Godmaster began, the three boys put their ears to the ground to search for clues. They wound up unearthing a series of rumors that led to the next Godmaster, named Ginrai, but he sided with the Autobots. A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai

Although Bullhorn was ready for another go-around with the Autobot Godmaster, Cancer and Wilder were less than enthused at the notion, and told him to leave the matter to Buster and Hydra. Eliminate the Godmaster Ginrai

The trio fled when the Pretenders pulled out of the battle, leaving King Poseidon to battle Ginrai. Heroism!! The Birth of Super Ginrai

Cancer, Bullhorn and Wilder were not particularly enthusiastic about renewing the search for the final Godmaster, but the quest came to a sudden end when the Godmaster in question, Clouder, actually sought the Decepticons out. Appearance!! The Final Godmaster Using his power to transform into two robot modes, Clouder infiltrated the Autobot base as a spy and acquired classified information, which he handed off to Bullhorn and the Juniors to give to Mega and Giga. {{storylink|Secret Orders!

The battle which ensued came to an end when Devil Z and BlackZarak fused together and collapsed the base, sending the Autobots, along with the Bullhorn and Wilder, tumbling into an undersea chasm. {{storylink|The Ultimate Combination!!

Autobots! The True Form of Devil Z When the Devil Thunder bombardment was halted (thanks to Ginrai engaging BlackZarak in battle), Clouder supplied the group with an armored buggy that would allow them to join in the fight. The boys arrived too late to do anything, cresting the mountain just after God Ginrai destroyed Devil Z, at which point all the other Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors were also separated from their Transtectors. Cancer's living Transtector departed Earth with all the other Deception Transtectors, and was pursued by the Autobots' Transtectors to carry on the Transformers' war in space. A Battle... and Then...
Cancer and the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors made their debut when Blood lured the Autobot Juniors into a trap to test the power of their Jinchōkon. Bursting up from beneath the ground, the evil trio quickly overpowered their Autobot counterparts, but when Cancer was distracted by some endangered civilians, the heroes were able to exploit the distraction to defeat their foes. Destined Confrontation: The Children of Good and Evil
Cancer and his partners did not take an active hand in any of the Decepticon plans which immediately followed, but eventually took to the front lines again when their leaders, Giga and Mega, unveiled their Transtectors for an attack on Tokyo. God Ginrai's Amazing Super-God Combination! The trio were quite happy to watch when the Decepticons captured Shūta and Cab and Blood tortured them in an attempt to force them to join the Decepticons, but Cancer took particular offence when Shūta claimed that the Decepticons weren't a family at all, as they were the only family he had. The Earth Family of Good and Evil Cancer and the Juniors later joined Overlord in attacking various spots on Earth from the top of Mount Everest with the [[A.O.

{{storylink|A Fierce Battle!!

{{storylink|Friend or Foe!?

{{storylink|Appearance!! {{storylink|Malevolent and Inhuman!

They then took on the Autobot Headmaster Juniors, almost cutting off Shūta's arms before Ginrai returned and saw them off. Autobots! Desperate Attack!!

The Autobots were able to defeat Scramble 7, but Buster and Hydra informed them that they had been united under the leadership of Devil Z, and were heading back to Earth to await the Autobots' return. {{storylink|The Battle Begins! With the power of the Skyboom Shield at his disposal, Megatron invites the Autobots to what could be the last battle.

Synopsis
Testing the power of the Skyboom Shield, Megatron disintegrates an entire comet. Satisfied with his new toy's power, Megatron anticipates the next conflict will allow the Decepticons to end the routine of battling for new Mini-Cons and finish the Autobots.

In the Autobots' base, Hot Shot is running through an obstacle course of suspended metal pieces, while the Mini-Cons try to slow him down by tossing stuff at him. But before Hot Shot can win, Blurr catches up and captures the flag. Smokescreen arrives and asks to join in the training, and Blurr goads Smokescreen to attempt a run by challenging his performance hardware. While taking several hits in the process, Smokescreen eventually manages to grab the flag.

In the Autobot control room, Optimus receives a direct challenge from Megatron. Optimus knows that despite being hopelessly overpowered, it is his job to accept the challenge. The Autobots all rush out to teleport to the location Megatron specified.

When the Autobots arrive to battle the Decepticons, Megatron summons his Star Saber and Skyboom Shield and tells Demolishor to hold back, as he anticipates that with his new weapons, he can defeat the Autobots on his own. The shield blocks attacks from Hot Shot and Blurr, and then all of the Autobots' firepower. Megatron moves forward and slices apart Optimus's rifle. Cyclonus and Demolishor contribute by raining down gunfire on the scattering Autobots, allowing Megatron and Optimus to be separated from the rest of the group.

Hot Shot and Blurr notice Optimus fighting Megatron by himself, and the two transform and rush to aid their leader. Starscream and Cyclonus chase the duo from the air. Hot Shot provides cover fire while Blurr attempts to lose his pursuers. Blurr and Hot Shot trade positions, and eventually Cyclonus and Starscream fly out of range. Powerlinking with Swindle, Starscream "lays a pounding" on the two cars.

In a move even Demolishor finds unwise, Sideways dives directly onto Red Alert, but is soundly blasted away. Smokescreen, tired of the Decepticons holding an advantage, powerlinks with Liftor and disrupts Starscream. Demolishor rolls a large boulder at Smokescreen, who is pinned to the ground. When Cyclonus observes that the Decepticons are maintaining their advantage, he's blasted out of the sky by Sideways, whom neither side sees.

Near a crevice, Optimus is still surviving against Megatron. Hot Shot and Blurr arrive to distract Megatron, allowing Optimus to grab onto the Skyboom Shield while Megatron is still holding it. Trying to slice Optimus away, Megatron accidentally tosses the shield into the crevice. Angry, he attempts to impale Optimus but is halted by Sparkplug.

With Megatron intending to get at Optimus by slicing through Sparkplug, the Skyboom Shield activates and levitates from the crevice to protect the Autobot. The two weapons used against each other send out a bright light that Rad notes is similar to the light that reactivated all the Mini-Cons in the start of their Earth encounters.

The Decepticons, having lost the shield, retreat to their base again. The Autobots congratulate Smokescreen for changing the tide of battle (that is, before he was caught under a rock), and Fred hugs Carlos.
Notes
Differences with Micron Legend
Animation and/or technical glitches
* The animation in this episode is just largely atrocious in general.

* Starscream appears in a couple of shots as a solid black dot with wings.

* There are various instances of what should be glowing energy appearing black, such as Starscream's exhaust, and the shot that takes down Cyclonus.

* The boulder chasing Smokescreen jumps back and forth in one shot.

* Cyclonus's rotors are missing shortly before he's shot down by Sideways.

* After Megatron loses the shield, he raises Star Saber, and the arm which should be holding it is totally missing.

* A couple of shots of Cyclonus seem to take place at night time as opposed to day (including the shot where is hit by Sideways's beam). The reason for this is possibly because these shots were recycled from 'Overmatch'.

Continuity errors
*When Megatron goes to summon the Star Saber and Sky Boom Shield for the fight against Optimus, he refers to both weapons by the name "Star Saber" in the English dub.

Transformers references
* Megatron says Yesss

Real-world references
Miscellaneous trivia
*This is the first time a Mini-Con speaks English.
*This is one of the three Armada episodes with more than one word in the title.
*Sideways' poorly thought out attack on Red Alert could have been to intentionally get himself disabled, helping the sides stay level so the conflict endures. This is consistent with his secret long-term agenda.
*The opening narration has changed for this episode. It did not set up the whole Mini-Con premise but rather the small plot point of the rogue meteor heading for the Decepticon base.
:The Maximal Elders are the leaders of Cybertron during the Beast Era of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Maximal High Council of Elders, or just Maximal Elders, are the Maximals who lead the political and military fronts from planet Cybertron following the conclusion of the Great War. They allow the Predacons certain individual freedoms as their own faction, though in reality, they must answer to the Maximal Elders. The Maximal Elders aren't all sugar and rainbows, however, as they have greenlit several experiments of questionable ethics.

How the Council of Elders relates to the Maximal Imperium remain to be seen. They may or may not be replaced by the Convoy Council in the distant future.

Fiction
Beast Wars cartoon
Not much is known about the Maximal Elders, including who the members are and how many exist. The Tripredacus Council is accused of kissing their skid-plates. They apparently keep a tight hold on any and all information regarding the Great War and Earth, restricting access to it from the general populace. (The Predacons conversely have no such restrictions.) They have also made the area of space around planet Earth off limits, for unknown reasons. The Elders also authorized the experimental Protoform X, and later its disposal.

There's also mention of a High Council, which may or may not be the same group. If it isn't, the High Council possesses legislative powers but appears to be a lesser body to the Elders.

Beast Machines cartoon
Sometime after conquering all of Cybertron with his Vehicon army and transformation virus, Megatron moved into the Council Citadel in the planetary capital of Cybertropolis, which had previously served as the capitol of the Maximal Elders and they pressumably had their Sparks removed.

3H comics
Apelinq noted with disdain that, in the wake of the attacks that signaled the beginning of Megatron's conquest of Cybertron, the Maximal Elders at first attempted to ignore the problem, but as it became clear that the attacks were not simply random, isolated incidents, they became "all but immobilized, with blame and doubt being cast from one end of the command chain to another".

Notes
* Many fans assumed that Magnaboss might've filled the same role for the Maximals that the Tripredacus Council performed for the Predacons. Its three components' Generation 1-inspired names implies to some that these are the original Autobots in advisory roles. While they've not been shown as the Council itself, the idea of them being government figures has been used twice in the subsequent Beast Era comics: the Universe comics had Magnaboss as a member of the post-reformatting Maximal High Council, and the IDW Beast Wars comic had the Magnaboss trio as the ruling Maximal Imperium.

Synopsis
In the depths of Cybertron, the two technorganic warriors, Blackarachnia and Cheetor, mock-spar in their beast modes. They are being tutored by Optimus Primal on finding their still point during battle so they can transform. Cheetor objects to the new, "mystical" Optimus and proclaims that he trusts his instincts. All this unfolds while they are watched by an unfamiliar set of bat eyes. Beside the more advanced Blackarachnia and Cheetor, now learning to transform in combat, Rattrap is still struggling with the basics of his technorganic body and relearning the transformation process—unsuccessfully. Optimus Primal tells Rattrap to have patience and just let it happen. Frustrated with his new body and his liability in combat, the rat lashes out at his leader. According to him, Primal should save his advice for the still-missing Rhinox and Silverbolt.

Hurt, Primal leaves Rattrap, while the other two scold the rat for his behavior. Primal notices something up above and catches it. It's a bat, and Primal is shocked at the presence of organic life on Cybertron. Before he can examine it further, he is hit with a sonic pulse, and the creature flaps away. The Maximals pursue the bat in their beast modes through the lower regions of Cybertron before Cheetor transforms and catches the creature. As Cheetor holds the bat down, it speaks! Not only that, it—or rather, he—claims to be a Maximal.

At this point, Jetstorm and his Aero Drones appear and attack the Maximals. Primal, Cheetor, and Blackarachnia transform into combat modes, while Rattrap, unable to transform and devoid of weapons, hides. After a short clash, the Maximals run away, followed by Jetstorm, who fires a homing mine after the Maximals that the bat deflects with a sonic blast. While the Maximals take cover, the Aero Drones are destroyed by the bat, and Jetstorm vows to return.

The creature, being the kind soul he is, leads the Maximals back to his hideout. On the way, Primal tells him a simplified story of the Beast Wars, their reformatting, and basically all the events leading up to the present. The bat recounts how he found himself trapped in this new form when the first Vehicon drones attacked Cybertron. As other robots were destroyed, he fell down a deep pit and awoke, he says, in his current, organic body. When the Maximals reach their destination, Primal is amazed at Nightscream's temporary home. It is a towering, organic fruit tree lodged in the metal world of Cybertron.

The creature explains that he has been eating from the tree since his transformation and offers its fruit to the others. While three of them accept, Cheetor is suspicious of the creature. While Primal tries the fruit, claiming that it may help their organic components, Cheetor retorts that he only processes energon, period. Cheetor interrogates the bat and demands answers. He wants to know if the newcomer's an agent for Megatron, but the bat denies it, as Megatron took everything he loved away from him. Cheetor and the bat go back to the others, but the Maximals seem unresponsive and strange. Primal beats his chest and speaks in a primitive way, while Rattrap and Blackarachnia squabble over the fruit, hissing and nipping one another. The organic fruits have magnified their bestial sides, creating a mental imbalance and the eventual dominance of their animal natures.

Amidst the chaos, Jetstorm reappears and attacks. Cheetor attempts to snap the others out of their beast mentality and get them transform. They ignore him, and he and the bat attempt to take the food away from the increasingly feral Maximals. Cheetor notices the trunk of the organic tree, transforms, and cuts it down, despite the bat's protests. This restores the affected Maximals to their old selves, and they transform and begin the fight. The bat is badly hurt by a blast from Jetstorm, and the only way to save his life is for Primal to reformat him.

From his chest, a brilliant white light shoots out. The bat's organic components are mixed with technology, and a technorganic bat emerges. Transforming into his new robot mode, he decimates the ranks of the Aero-drones and drains energon out of Jetstorm until the general crashes. But reformatting the creature has taken its toll on Optimus. He is severely weakened and requests Cheetor to lead while he recovers, as Cheetor was right to destroy the tree; its purely organic nature was creating imbalance in their technorganic bodies. Cheetor eagerly accepts and orders Optimus to be placed on a stretcher.

The new robot decides to travel with them and introduces himself as Nightscream. But as they leave, a fruit from the organic tree puts down roots into what appears to be organic soil!
