Synopsis
At the peak of the Matterhorn, Ginrai and the fused BlackZarak/Devil Z entity prepare to face off against each other in their final battle. BlackZarak inquires if the Autobot leader plans to fight him alone, and Ginrai responds with a barrage of laser fire, which BlackZarak shrugs off. The villain transforms to scorpion mode and takes to the air, but Ginrai pursues him and seizes him by the tail. BlackZarak roars that he does not have time to waste on Ginrai, freely divulging his plan—he has placed an amplifier for his Devil Power at the South Pole, which will allow him to eliminate Humanity in the blink of an eye. The furious Ginrai attempts to drag BlackZarak back down to the mountain's peak, and he calls out for Overlord and the Darkwings brothers to aid him. Help is not forthcoming, but Ginrai still manages to rip off BlackZarak's cannons and tricks the villain into blasting himself with his own tail weapon. Damaged, BlackZarak begins to lose altitude, and Ginrai uses his own jets to steer the Decepticon into the mountainside. At the last second, however, BlackZarak throws off Ginrai and collapses part of the mountain, burying Ginrai in an avalanche.

Elsewhere on the mountain, the other Autobots and Decepticons are recovering from their injuries. While Minerva tends to the wounds Metalhawk received during his battle with King Poseidon in one location, in another spot, Hydra and Buster finally recover consciousness after the beating administered to them by BlackZarak. While Buster is still trying to wrap his mind around what happened, Hydra simply writes it off as punishment for weakness and proof that they must fight even harder. The chance for such a fight immediately arrives in the form of the Autobot Godmasters, and even though the two weakened Decepticons practically collapse after only a few shots are exchanged, they continue to draw out the fight.

Some miles away, Clouder has supplied Cancer, Wilder and Bullhorn with a heavily armed buggy so that they can participate in the battle on the Matterhorn. As the quartet head towards the Alps, Wilder chooses to remind everyone that he has definitely not joined the Autobots, but the protest has grown so stale that Cancer laughs it off, much to Wilder's annoyance.

Back on the Matterhorn, BlackZarak is in mid-gloat when Ginrai comes bursting out of the ice and snow and stomps his opponent into the rock face. BlackZarak transforms back into robot mode and unleashes the "Devil Thunder Ring," encircling Ginrai with Devil Power with the intent of removing his humanity and transforming him into a true robot, just as he did with Hydra and Buster. As Ginrai fights the effect, Grand Maximus comes flying around the mountain. Having been unable to communicate with Ginrai, Grand and the Headmaster Juniors have come to help. And help they do—a blast from the Maximus's cannon throws off BlackZarak's focus long enough for Ginrai to escape his Devil Power and take the fight up close. With a mighty swing and a flare of incandescent energy, Ginrai punches BlackZarak's head clean off his shoulders, and the decapitated Decepticon crashes into the mountain. Shūta cheers for his commander as BlackZarak's severed head lands alongside his body and explodes, but Grand silences him... because something is happening! BlackZarak's twitching, headless body rises up out of its crater, and as the shocked Autobots watch, it begins to transform into a new form!

At the base of the mountain, Mega and Giga stand by their Transtectors and debate on what to do next. Realizing that they have been misled by Devil Z, who has placed his hatred of human beings above even their comradeship, they know they can no longer serve him...and they now also owe Ginrai a debt of honor for saving them from Z's wrath. They are not the only Decepticons to reach a decision at this point, either—Hydra and Buster have reached the end of their strength and combine into Darkwings to flee their battle with the Autobot Godmasters.

Meanwhile, far above, BlackZarak's new form now stands revealed: a twisted, two-headed serpent, which launches energy blasts at God Ginrai from its mouths and swats him out of the sky with its tail. As the battle rages, Overlord appears overhead, and BlackZarak offers him a chance to redeem himself, but the Ambassador of Destruction opens fire on BlackZarak instead. Infuriated, BlackZarak vows to show Overlord what happens to traitors and envelops him in a beam of Devil Power. Crying in pain, Overlord's last act is to tell Ginrai to ensure that BlackZarak does not live, before Giga and Mega are suddenly ejected from the sphere of Devil Power. Shocked at what they are seeing, Ginrai and Grand Maximus are distracted enough to be blasted out of the sky by BlackZarak, just as the cocoon of Devil Power recedes and the Overlord Transtector emerges...now a truly living super-robot lifeform itself, brought to life by the power of Devil Z! Giga murmurs that he wishes they could have settled their rivalry with Ginrai honourably, and with that, he and Mega die and their Master-Braces vanish from their wrists. Burning with righteous anger and Chōkon Power, Ginrai rises, and Shūta, Cab and Minerva all feel the energy of their commander. In a flash of light, the three children find themselves in God Ginrai's chest cockpit, ready to fight alongside their leader as the defining moment of the battle draws nearer. Overlord lunges for Ginrai, but Grand Maximus transforms to robot mode and tackles him. BlackZarak orders Wilder, Cancer and Bullhorn's now-living Transtectors to attack Ginrai instead, but the Godmasters arrive just in time to handle them, leaving Ginrai to face off against BlackZarak. God Fire Guts and Devil Power collide in a mighty explosion, hurling Ginrai back and leaving Devil Z simply laughing from within BlackZarak's body. He announces to Ginrai that the Autobot's very existence—the existence of all the Godmasters—is as a result of his machinations, and to him, they are nothing more than tools that will never be able to defeat their maker. Ginrai refutes this, declaring that Devil Z has long underestimated the strength of humans and the limitless possibilities that exist within Mankind, and that is why he shall never defeat them. Exploding into flame once more, Ginrai activates the God Fire Guts and dives at BlackZarak, driving hard against a beam of Devil Power. Fighting with all his strength, Ginrai overpowers the beam and crashes into and through BlackZarak, whose body finally explodes into fragments, exposing the glowing orb of Devil Z. As the villain rages impotently, Ginrai and the Headmaster Juniors unite every drop of their Chōkon Power for one last, mighty attack: the FINAL FIRE GUTS! Burning with the passion and strength of his fellow humans and Autobots, Ginrai dives like a flaming spear into the heart of Devil Z, who screams and explodes in a coruscating wave of light and darkness.

As the blast dies out, the skies clear and Ginrai fades back into view, and the Decepticons battling below stop and gape, unable to comprehend what has occurred. Overlord is the first to take action...and that action is retreat. With their leader lost, the Decepticons immediately take to the air and head for space. Ginrai comes floating down out of the sky and lands in front his troops, but the surprises are not yet through, as all of the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors suddenly glow with blinding light. When the light fades, seven ordinary human beings are left standing on the snowy ground, and Minerva is the first to realize that their Master-Braces have vanished. It is Road King who then makes the next discovery: A short distance away, their Transtectors are standing in robot mode! Ginrai's Transtector looks down at the humans assembled before it, and thanks them for all they have done. It is then that Ginrai realizes what has happened—with Devil Z's death, the link that he created between the humans and their Transtectors has been broken. But now, their Transtectors live on, having become true super-robot lifeforms themselves, and it is their duty to pursue the fleeing Decepticons back into space. As goodbyes are said, Cancer and company roll up the mountain in their buggy, all weapons firing, just a little bit too late to do any good. As everyone watches and waves, the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors board Grand Maximus and blast off for space. As the narrator says, Ginrai's long battle with the Decepticons is over at last, but throughout it all, he has been supported by his friends, his fellow humans, and the beauty and peace of planet Earth.

Notes
Lost in translation
Among the changes made by the Omni Productions dub:
*The Matterhorn is described by the narrator as the Decepticons' control center.
*Devil Z calls his amplifier an "exterminator".
*Hawk doesn't bring up summoning the other Pretenders at all, leaving their absence a mystery.
*Clouder describes the Matterhorn as a "hill".
*God Ginrai's line in defiance of BlackZarak's threat to turn him into a robot is gone.
*Overlord's last line as he's being zapped by Devil Z is gone.
*God Ginrai's lecture to Devil Z about not killing his own men is changed to general "I will kill you!" banter.
*The determined growling during the shot of Ginrai and the Headmaster Juniors is replaced by Cab's voice actor whimpering loudly.
*Overlord's line right after Devil Z's death becomes "It's finally been destroyed!", which seems more positive than the original script intended.
*"WE BELIEVE TOMORROW" is missing from the soundtrack, with no music to replace it. The last notes of it fade in just before the credits.

Animation or technical errors
*In the first shot after the title card, BlackZarak is absolutely towering over God Ginrai. In the past, he's not been much more than a head taller than him.

Continuity errors
*Having not appeared in the previous episode, and having been absent for two-thirds of this one, Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn's Transtectors are suddenly among the Decepticon ranks in the third act. The Doubleclouder Transtector is still missing, however, and is not seen among the Decepticons flying into space at the episode's close.
*This episode explains that Devil Z was responsible for forging the link between the Godmasters and their Transtectors. This makes sense; the Godmasters' Transtectors were not originally intended to be bonded with humans, so it had to be someone else's doing, and the fact that the death of Devil Z in this episode causes this link to be severed makes it clear that he's not lying about it. However, Shūta, Minerva and Cab are also separated from their Transtectors, and this doesn't make sense, because Devil Z had no hand in their combination.
*Grand Maximus carries the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors into space at the end of this episode, which is inconsistent with how he has been presented in the rest of the series. Whereas his big brother, Fortress Maximus, was large enough to transport Transformers around, Grand's battleship has been consistently depicted as being scaled for transporting humans around (consequently, he only transforms into a robot as tall as God Ginrai, instead of a towering giant like his sibling). But here, he is boarded by Transformers. Oops.

Continuity notes
*BlackZarak has been decapitated before, back in "God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon".
*Cancer, Wilder and Bullhorn (and Clouder) had their Transtectors brought to life in "Autobots! Desperate Attack!!".

Trivia
*The insert songs "Susume! Chōjin Masterforce" and "WE BELIEVE TOMORROW" are reprised for this episode, the former in instrumental form.
*BlackZarak's serpent mode, like Sixshot's "Wingwolf" mode and Overlord's "space jet" mode before it, was created by the production staff of the animated series by tinkering around with the toy. (Specifically, they beheaded the scorpion mode, turned it belly-forward, and used the claws for twin dragon heads.) In comparison to those other two characters, though, this mode was streamlined to a greater degree for animation (such as completely omitting the scorpion legs), so the actual toy doesn't look nearly as good if transformed to match it.
*Metalhawk (and presumably the other Autobot Pretenders too) remains behind on Earth. Presumably, that's because someone still needs to hunt down the Decepticon Pretenders and the Seacons, who last appeared (chronologically speaking) in the previous episode, and whose fates are left unrevealed.
*While this episode marks the end of the Super-God Masterforce story, it is not the end of the series. For the video release of the show, five clip episodes were created, and the final one of these, "You Too Use the Masterforce to Transform", was aired as the forty-third and final episode of the broadcast series.
Synopsis
The homeworld of the Micromasters, planet Micro, has come under attack from Decepticons. Despite the fact that the planet is in the sector protected by his arm of the Galactic Defense Force, God Ginrai and his forces are occupied battling Overlord's army in G Nebula 89, necessitating the assistance of Star Saber, who quickly heads for Micro. Accompanying him aboard Galaxy Shuttle are the Rescue Team, who are thrilled to be returning home, and Jean, who nearly chokes on a soda when the Rescues inform him that the reason Holi is being so serious is because he's worried about his girlfriend down on Micro. As Star Saber and Galaxy Shuttle enter the planet's atmosphere, their arrival is observed by a mysterious figure…

Star Saber, the Rescue Team and Jean meet with Governor Riker, who informs them that there have been no further reports of Decepticon attacks. After checking in with God Ginrai via video communication, Star Saber decides to give the Rescue Team a little "shore leave" while he investigates on his own. After Holi's girlfriend, Clipper, fails to show up at the planned meeting place, he and the others go searching for her, and spot her coming up an escalator, just as they're travelling down the adjacent one. She tells Holi that he should have called first, and practically ignores him as she carries on with her work, much to the amusement of Jean and the other Rescues.

Meanwhile, Star Saber is shown around the attacked areas by Riker, and is surprised to discover that the areas were completely levelled, even after energy was successfully stolen. He realizes that this is not traditional Decepticon behaviour, and deduces that mercenaries must be involved. He soon rejoins Jean and the Rescue Team for tea with Clipper (who's quite impressed with the dashing Supreme Commander), but they are interrupted by an alarm which alerts them to a three-man Decepticon attack on the plasma energy plant that provides Micro with a third of its energy. Holi gets particularly fired up for battle when Clipper wishes him good luck, but the Micromasters don't manage to get more than a few feet through the exit before their way is barred by the mysterious figure who observed their arrival on the planet. This towering, samurai-like warrior introduces himself as Greatshot, reveals that he is an old acquaintance of Star Saber, and informs the Autobots that they do not need to involve themselves in the battle, as it is his responsibility. At Star Saber's inquiry, Greatshot explains that he has fought with two of the attackers – mercenaries named Blue Bacchus and Black Shadow – before, and has been trying to track them down to settle an old score. Star Saber offers to help, and confronts the third attacker while Greatshot deals with the mercenaries and Jean and the Micromasters handle rescue operations with the V-Star.

The third villain turns out to be Hellbat, who has hired the mercenaries to help him raise his standing in the Decepticon ranks, but finds that he has to triple their cut of the stolen energy in order to convince them to take on Star Saber. Before the two mercs can step in, Greatshot attacks them, and it is revealed that he is seeking revenge for a past betrayal from when he used to work with them. The two battles rage simultaneously, with Star Saber reflecting Hellbat's hypnotism waves back at him, and Greatshot deceiving his old allies with his "Disappearing Dust" trick, appearing to self-destruct and then appearing behind them. Realizing that he has no chance against Star Saber, Hellbat opens fire on the energy plant, causing a chain reaction that threatens to reduce a third of the planet to ashes. Hellbat calls to the mercenaries to pull out, but they don't manage to get away without being badly injured by Greatshot. As the trio takes to the sky, a parting shot from Greatshot hits the energy containers Hellbat is carrying, and they explode in his grip, robbing him of the plasma energy he had gathered (although the mercenaries are still quite insistent that Hellbat will be paying them somehow).

As fire begins to consume the energy plant, Jean returns with the V-Star just in time. Star Saber reconnects with the V-Star and transforms into his super robot mode, and, knowing that it's too late to stop the plant from exploding, has to think quickly. Swinging his Saber Blade, he severs the base of the energy plant, separating it from the planet, and seizes it in his mighty grip, flying it out of the planet's atmosphere. As everyone watches, the plasma energy explodes in a white fireball, and everyone holds their breath... until Star Saber reappears in the sky above, unharmed. Star Saber and Greatshot shake hands, but Holi is surprised when Greatshot departs, thinking that he would make a good addition to the Autobot forces. Star Saber explains that Greatshot doesn't like being tied down by formalities, but Holi's attention is a bit more caught up in Clipper, who wants to know when he's coming back to Micro. Holi says he isn't sure, but asks if it even matters, since he knows she'll just say she's busy. Clipper says that next time, she wants Holi to tell her everything about his adventures and about the Earth, and Holi blushes... but of course, the little guy can't win either way, since Jean just keeps on teasing him.

Notes
Lost in translation
Among the changes made by the Omni Productions dub:
* In the Japanese version, Star Saber is surprised by the devastation and concludes from the unusual methods that they're dealing with different Decepticons to those active on Earth. In the English dub, he sees nothing out of the ordinary and just laments that the Decepticons have totally destroyed everything.
* When Hellbat tells the Crossformers to attack Star Saber, they're reluctant to do so because of the risk of explosion rather than demanding additional payment.
* Greatshot's speech about how he defected because Star Saber treated him right, becomes generic hero-type speechifying in the dub.
* The dialogue establishing that Greatshot has destroyed the energy Hellbat stolen is changed in the English dub to remove references to the fact.

Animation and technical errors
* It'd have been nice if the Micromasters boarding the V-Star had actually been animated, but they just stand there...

Transformers references
*God Ginrai and Overlord's forces are battling in G Nebula 89, the nebula in which the Godmasters' Transtectors were created. It is here noted that this nebula (and planet Micro) are in "Sector 2", which Ginrai departed to become head of the Galactic Defense Force for back in "The Brave Hero of the Universe - Star Saber".
*the Autobot and Decepticon Godmasters and Headmaster Jrs whoms Transectors were brought to life are featured in this episode such as Road King, Ranger, Lightfoot, God Ginrai, Buster, Overlord, Hydra, Cancer and Bullhorn

Trivia
*This episode does not feature either of Victorys two stock title cards, presenting the title as white text on a black background.
* Failing to advertise toy gimmicks is nothing new for Victory, and the trend continues here, as it is never explicitly stated that Blue Bacchus and Black Shadow are Pretenders. There is an allusion to it, though, in their final scene, in which they are slashed by Greatshot and they fall out of the shot. Two streaks of energy then rise up from where they fell, off-screen, after which, two explosions are seen bursting into shot from where they fell. The streaks of energy then coalesce into the vehicle modes of their small robots. The implication, of course, is that Greatshot has just destroyed their shells, but that the interior robots have been able to escape. Additionally, their sub-group name, Crossformers, is never used in dialogue, and—you guessed it—they never appear in the series again.

* This is another episode where the English dub narration on the next episode preview is intact on the R4 DVD set.
* Both Holi and Star Saber blush at various points while talking to Clipper. At one point, Holi's entire face glows red.
* Though Riker is small enough to fit inside Star Saber's cockpit, he instead rides on top (minds out of the gutter, please), probably because Star Saber's smallest component, the Brain of Courage is inside.
* Likewise, as Micro has no water, Boater is forced to get around by riding on Fire's vehicle mode.
* Do Star Saber and Greatshot really expect to be able to put out the massive fire by stamping on it?

:Ginrai is a human and Autobot Godmaster from the Super-God Masterforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Being a soldier is not the life for Ginrai (ジンライ Jinrai). Command structures, fixed routines, forced formality, following orders, knowing your place and toeing the line are his complete antithesis—so it was really the worst luck in the world for him to be born Japanese. A Nagano native, Ginrai found the atmosphere of his home country unbearably stifling, and left for the United States at the young age of seventeen to "find himself." The very definition of a free spirit and a lone wolf, he took a job as a long-haul truck driver for Union Transportation which offered him the freedom and solitude of the open road. Despite his desire for isolation and self-exploration, however, he is hugely popular amongst his "brothers" in the trucker fraternity, as his easygoing personality allows him to get along with people like a house on fire.

Ginrai's life was turned upside down when he discovered that he was an Autobot Godmaster and became bonded to a Transtector from the G Nebula. Now wearing the visage of the legendary Autobot commander Optimus Prime, Ginrai has found his entire worldview changed by the evil of the Decepticons, a force he painfully realizes is too great for him to overlook. It would not, Ginrai figures, be a good thing for the Decepticons to rule the world. After all, he lives there.

Ginrai's signature attack technique is the "Atomic Fire Guts", which sees him condense his Chōkon Power into his gun and release it as a blast of roiling flame. Ginrai can combine with his own trailer to become Super Ginrai, upgrading his attack into the more-powerful "Special Fire Guts", and then again with the drone Godbomber to become God Ginrai. As God Ginrai, his Fire Guts attack is powered up once more, becoming the ultimate single-strike final attack known as the "God Fire Guts", which transforms Ginrai's entire body into a blazing fireball.

The events that would bring Ginrai into contact with the Transformers began an indeterminate number of years ago, when the super-energy alien being and self-styled "Decepticon god" Devil Z stole several Transtectors, including one intended to be used by the legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime, from an area of space known as the G Nebula. Already filled with the Tenchōkon of the nebula, the Transtectors were then scattered across the Earth by Devil Z, that they might absorb the planet's Chichōkon. Devil Z planned to have human beings bond to the Transtectors, adding their inherent Jinchōkon to the equation, thereby creating a new super-robotic lifeform: Godmasters. Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!

Through undivulged circumstances, the Transtector intended for Prime assumed the form of a red tractor trailer cab and came to rest in a small garage in California. The unwitting garage owner rented the cab to several truckers, but always found it returned early with complaints of unusual, even supernatural, incidents.

Two years after coming to America, Ginrai happened to be transporting an ill dolphin from Baney Aquarium to the Ocean Research Institute of California, which was run, unbeknownst to him, by the Autobot Pretender Diver. Destiny stepped in when Ginrai's truck broke down on the way, and he pulled in at this very garage, where the owner rented him the Transtector to complete his delivery. In the glove box of the cab, he discovered a pair of Master-Braces and slipped them on his wrists, only to discover that he was unable to remove them. When Diver laid eyes upon the bracelets, he recognized the basic design of them and insisted that Ginrai take him back to the garage where he had found the truck. On the way, however, they were attacked by the Decepticon Godmaster brothers Hydra and Buster, who forced the truck off a cliff. Accidentally touching the bracelets as he attempted to escape the crushed cab, Ginrai was infused with the Masterforce, and a suit of armor materialized around him, healing both himself and the Transtector as they combined and transformed. Now a Godmaster himself, Ginrai saw the shocked Decepticons off. A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai

Ginrai was at first unsure of what to make of his new powers and was not entirely keen on joining the Autobots, as the notion of operating as part of a command structure and being tied down to a specific place ran directly counter to his desire for freedom in his life. Although he promised to aid them when necessary "for the sake of the world"—a mantra for which he admitted he had a weakness—he soon bore witness to the true evil of the Decepticons when Hydra and Buster killed several of his fellow truckers while searching for him. In spite of this, Ginrai was still not entirely willing to join the Autobots, but fate would continue to pushing him into doing so. Ginrai: God On of Rage!!

Ginrai soon suffered a prophetic dream, after which he discovered three more pairs of Master-Braces in his Transtector, indicating the presence of more Godmasters on Earth. When Ginrai brought the bracelets to Japan for study at the Autobot base, A Strange Friendship: Cancer and Minerva events began to escalate as his Transtector activated on its own, transporting Ginrai to his birthplace of Nagano, or more specifically, a construction site at the base of Mount Yatsugatake there. Blasting for a tunnel through the mountain had been blocked by a mysterious object, which proved to be a trailer for Ginrai's truck, which burst from the tunnel during another battle with Buster and Hydra. Friend or Foe!? The True Form of the Monster!! Later still, the two brothers lured Ginrai into a public battle so that they might blame the conflict on him and turn public opinion against the Autobots. The plan failed, but a friend of Ginrai's offered the suggestion that his becoming a Godmaster was the will of God Himself. Eliminate the Godmaster Ginrai

Not long thereafter, in a battle with King Poseidon, Ginrai discovered that his cab and trailer were capable of performing a "Double On", merging together to create the super-robot "Super Ginrai". Heroism!! The Desperate Lightfoot Metalhawk and the Pretenders raced to finish the construction of Godbomber, but as the so-called "Bomber Project" neared completion, Ginrai was lured into the desert by a disguised Buster and Hydra (under the auspices of performing some stunt driving for a movie) and was attacked and beaten within an inch of his life by the Decepticon Ambassador of Destruction, Overlord. Super Ginrai Gets Blown Away in the Desert!? Following a failed attack on the Bomber Project facility, Will the Bomber Project Be Destroyed!? the barely healed Ginrai insisted upon taking the fight to the Decepticons, combining with the completed Godbomber to form "God Ginrai". God Ginrai - Into the Sky!! In his new form, Ginrai confronted Overlord and BlackZarak on the moon, where he fully embraced his role as protector of Earth and defeated the Decepticons with the aid of Grand Maximus. God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon

Upon returning to Earth, Ginrai was lured into a trap in the Middle East by Overlord, during which Godbomber revealed a hidden power by transforming into a robot mode. Overlord - Terror of the Chōkon Tornado Godbomber's robot mode also helped save the day when Ginrai and Lightfoot were entombed in a cave when attempting to stop the eruption of an underwater volcano, Escape!! The Underwater Volcano Erupts leading the Decepticons to target him for destruction. Luring Ginrai to the heartland of America, the villains ambushed and badly wounded the Autobot leader, leaving him unable to use his Chōkon Power to animate Godbomber. Luckily, the day was saved when the Headmaster Juniors discovered they were able to take control of Godbomber together. Destroy Godbomber!!

When it seemed as though the Autobots had finally been joined by the final Godmaster, a young man named Clouder, Ginrai welcomed him into their ranks with open arms. Metalhawk, however, proved to be less trusting, and soon exposed Clouder as a Decepticon spy. Unfortunately, this was not enough to stop the plan the Decepticons had put in motion; while Ginrai and the Godmasters were occupied battling Buster and Hydra in a nearby city, the Autobot base was crippled by Clouder's sabotage and attacked by the rest of the Decepticons en masse. Secret Orders! Destroy the Autobot Base!! Ginrai was unable to prevent the destruction of the base, but was approached by Clouder in the aftermath. Clouder had been left to die in the base by the other Decepticons, and now wanted to work with the Autobots, which Ginrai permitted. Disaster! The Autobot Base Explodes
After failing to contact Grand Maximus, Ginrai headed out into space to search for him and found him trapped inside a powerful black hole. Ginrai too fell victim to the singularity's pull, but he and Grand Maximus were able to combine their energies to destroy it from within and escape. The black hole had, in fact, been created by BlackZarak, who had been able to travel to Earth and join the Decepticons there during Ginrai's imprisonment. BlackZarak - Destroyer from Space With BlackZarak now bolstering their forces, the Decepticons' campaign grew ever more aggressive, with Ginrai only just managed to save the planet from the villains' unholy Death Para-Machine. {{storylink|Crisis! When Shūta was captured by the Decepticons, Ginrai was forced to come to the villains' base alone and unarmed in exchange for his safety. Things looked bad for the heroes until the self-doubting Decepticon Cancer finally switched sides and saved the day. God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base With Cancer's aid, Ginrai was able to lead the Autobots in an all-out attack on the Decepticon base, during which Devil Z fused with BlackZarak, creating an even more powerful composite foe. {{storylink|The Ultimate Combination!! After conclusive final battles with Hydra and Buster Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn and Overlord, Autobots! Desperate Attack!! Ginrai confronted the fused Devil Z/BlackZarak entity atop the Matterhorn. Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z As their battle raged down the mountain, Ginrai succeeded in decapitating the villain, but BlackZarak simply assumed a new, serpentine alternate mode and kept on fighting. The Headmaster Juniors boarded Ginrai's chest cockpit and joined their energies with him, allowing him to destroy BlackZarak's body with his God Fire Guts attack, exposing Devil Z. As the alien raged impotently, Ginrai and the Juniors united every last drop of their Chōkon Powe into the almighty Final Fire Guts attack, which destroyed Devil Z once and for all.

With Devil Z's death, the bond he had forged between Transtector and human ceased to exist, and Ginrai and the other humans were separated from their Transtectors. The Transtectors, however, had been evolved through their partnership with the humans and continued to exist as true super-robot life forms. Having been imprinted with his human partner's personality, Ginrai's Transtector departed for space to pursue the surviving Decepticons and rejoin the greater war. A Battle... and Then...
The Ginrai Transtector—now having taken its human partner's name as its own, becoming known as Ginrai itself—joined with the Autobot forces in space, where he became good friends with Star Saber and his adopted human son, Jean. Before long, Star Saber was appointed Supreme Commander of the Autobots, while Ginrai became commander of the Defense Force for Space Sector Two. The Brave Hero of the Universe - Star Saber Operating out of a base in the G Nebula, Ginrai's time was occupied battling the Decepticon forces under Overlord's control, so much so that Star Saber occasionally had to respond to emergencies in Sector Two, such as a Breastforce attack on planet Micro. Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior
Star Saber refused to allow him to submit to the process, revolted at the notion of using his close friend's body in such a way, but Ginrai insisted. Ginrai Dies!! Perceptor and Wheeljack brought his life functions to an end, then restored him to Star Saber's specifications as Victory Leo. {{storylink|Fight!! When Ginrai, the first Autobot Godmaster, was discovered in America by Diver, it was immediately arranged for him to travel to Japan to meet with the rest of the Autobots. As Metalhawk and the Headmaster Juniors awaited his arrival at Harumi Wharf, however, they were attacked by the Decepticon Godmasters, Hydra and Buster. The Autobots were unable to match the Decepticons' power, but salvation soon came in the form of a red tractor trailer: Ginrai had arrived, and saw the villains off with a blast of Chōkon Power. In the aftermath of the battle, Metalhawk commented on Ginrai's similarity to Optimus Prime and wondered if he could be his reincarnation. Ginrai dismissed the notion, explaining that he had chosen to do this not because he was fated to, but specifically because he had only one life, and wanted to use it in service of the forces of good. {{storylink|Enter on the Stage! As leader of the Autobots, Ginrai led the heroes in investigating a mysterious Decepticon plan, only for the team to come under attack from what appeared to be a large army of legendary Decepticons, led by Galvatron. Attacked by King Poseidon, Ginrai was severely outmatched until the other Autobot Godmasters, Lightfoot, Ranger and Road King arrived with a trailer for his Transtector.
After several further battles, events culminated in Devil Z taking over BlackZarak's body and turning against the other Decepticons, attempting to drain Overlord and Ginrai's Jinchōkon Power to transform himself into the ultimate lifeform. Saved by the Autobot Pretenders, Ginrai and Overlord led their respective factions in combining their energies into the "Perfect Transformer Attack" and destroying Devil Z and BlackZarak for good. With Devil Z's death, the bond he had forged between Transtector and human ceased to exist, and Ginrai and the other humans were separated from their Transtectors. The Transtectors, however, had been evolved through their partnership with the humans and continued to exist as true super-robot life forms. *Super Ginrai (1988)
**Japanese ID number: C-307
**Accessories: Godmaster Transtector, 2 Superconductor Rifles, 2 Particle Beam Cannons, Super Ginrai head

:A remolded version of the American Powermaster Optimus Prime figure, Ginrai is a red, blue and grey tractor trailer, only able to transform into robot mode when the small Ginrai human figure is put into engine mode and snapped into place in the truck's grill, unlocking the clasp that holds the legs in place. When the cab is in robot mode, the trailer can become a battle station. Either robot or station can be armed with any of the toy's weapons, including two black "Superconductor Rifles", and two grey double-barrelled "Particle Beam Cannons," (referred to as "Cannon Craft" in "The Battle Begins! The United Earth-Space Troops"), which can be piloted by any small Godmaster figures. Cab and trailer can be merged into "Super Ginrai", whose head is a separate piece, and can go on to combine with the separately sold Godbomber to become God Ginrai.

:Differences between Ginrai and Powermaster Optimus Prime include retractable super-robot fists, a die-cast metal cab with translucent blue plastic windows, shortened smokestacks, a more metallic grey plastic, chrome on the Godmaster Ginrai engine, and silver paint rather than stickers for the small robot's upper legs.

:Super Ginrai was also sold in a gift set with Godbomber, who can interact with Ginrai in several ways. Trailer-mode Godbomber can hook up either directly to Ginrai's cab or to the back of Ginrai's own trailer and be towed along behind him, while any of Ginrai's weapons can plug into the holes in Godbomber's wings and chassis. Most prominently, of course, Godbomber diseassembles into various component parts that combine with Super Ginrai to form God Ginrai. Godbomber's legs become boots known as "God Legs", to which Ginrai's Particle Beam Cannons attach; his chest and wings form the "God Wing" backpack; his arms clip over the top of Ginrai's own as the "God Punch"; and his back becomes a chromed chestplate called the "God Breast", into the top of which the spring-loaded, missile-firing "God Cannon" plugs. The toy also features a secondary, lesser combination referred to as the "God Breaster," which involves attaching the God Breast to Super Ginrai, and plugging Godbomber's wings into his arms.

:The God Ginrai gift set was reissued in Japan in 2002 with the notable modification of blue eyes for the small Ginrai robot and a slightly different shade of red paint on the cab. However, it was notoriously over-produced, and online retailers were still selling it even years later, at greatly reduced prices.
Due to the nature of his construction, though, God Ginrai's fist-holes are blocked off, leaving him unable to hold the weapons which came with his components. Furthermore, as his attachments consist only of two arms and a chestpiece (no boots, no backpack), they cannot combine into Godbomber. The PVC, which was released in the fifth, Masterforce-centric act of the series, was available in both full-color and metallic silver "petwer" versions. In eight out of every ten cases, the pewter version of Ginrai came packaged with the head and torso of the wave's BlackZarak "Build-A-Figure".
Notes
*The human Ginrai's appearance is designed after screen actor Yūjirō Ishihara.
*According to his tech specs, there is a generator named Ultra Matrix, which contains far more energy than the Sun, mounted within Ginrai's Transtector. No actual fiction ever featured this device, though it was mentioned in magazines such as Comic Bom Bom.
*Ginrai's supplementary bio card states that he is 20 years old. It also implies that he is an American of Japanese descent instead of a native of Japan.
*Super-God Masterforce head writer Masumi Kaneda stated that God Ginrai (ゴッドジンライ) was named so that omitting every other Japanese syllable yields the word Gojira (ゴジラ), better known in the west as Godzilla.
*According to the episode "The Earth Family of Good and Evil", Ginrai is good at surfing and skateboarding.
*The relationship between Ginrai and Optimus Prime is a bit... sketchy, to say the least. Precisely why Ginrai's Transtector looks so much like Optimus Prime is not detailed in the series itself, with the explanation only being delivered in "Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!". Here, it is stated that the Transtector was created for Optimus Prime, but stolen by Devil Z... only for this to be seemingly contradicted seconds later, when it is said that the Transtector's trailer was to be used by a hero from planet Master. One might presume that this just means the trailer alone wasn't intended for use by Prime, or perhaps that the plan was not to use the Transtector to resurrect Prime, but to create a new Optimus Prime. It's all terribly odd. Whatever the original ill-defined intention may have been, years later, the Kiss Players radio drama clarified things by outright stating the Transtector was created as part of a plan to resurrect Prime after his most recent death. In the manga, Metalhawk makes mention that Ginrai looks like the legendary Cybertron warrior, Convoy. However, nothing is actually mentioned about a relationship with the two other than cosmetic similarities.
*The reissue God Ginrai giftset was the basis for the Commemorative Series "Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor" release, which was notable for referring to the Powermaster figure as "Ginrai," rather than by the traditional name of Prime's Powermaster partner, Hi-Q. Dreamwave Productions' "More Than Meets The Eye" profile series sidestepped any mind-bending continuity conundrums by just presenting Ginrai as a different name for Hi-Q.
*When Hasbro wanted to create an Alternators Dodge Ram toy, Takara reportedly demanded that it be made into Optimus Prime to help the figure sell, only for the Binaltech release of the toy to wind up being solicited not as Prime, but as Ginrai. Ultimately, Binaltech Ginrai was cancelled, and the figure was later released as Prime in the Alternators and Kiss Players lines, but not before Hirofumi Ichikawa produced character and story information to go along with it. This storyline, made available in 2007's unofficial publication, The Transformers Binaltech Stories: Profiles and Technical Specifications, would have seen Ginrai travel back in time from the far future and possess a Binaltech body intended for Roller in order to repair the damage caused to the timeline by Operation: Distant Thunder, thereby preserving his own future. Unlike the unreleased story for his fellow Binaltech cancellation victim, Blackarachnia, which can be fit into the published Binaltech continuity, Ginrai's intended story was modified into Black Convoy's fiction and therefore is not compatible with the official Binaltech continuity.
