Synopsis
Smarting from their recent defeat on the moon at Ginrai's hands, Mega and Giga conspire to find a natural environment that will put Ginrai at a disadvantage in their next conflict. Selecting a Middle-Eastern desert, they instruct Buster and Hydra to attack an oil refinery there to draw the Autobots out—but even the cold, cruel Hydra finds himself silently taken aback for a moment when Giga asks if they are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, should it be necessary. As they depart, Mega voices her own surprise at this coldness, but Giga tells her he is willing to die himself, if need be. The doubt remains in Hydra's mind as they begin their attack on the refinery, and in the midst of the assault, he confides to Buster that while he is not afraid of dying in battle, he will not sacrifice himself just for the sake of victory.

In Canada, the Autobot Headmaster Juniors race their Transtectors to the British Motors factory, where some improvements are being made to Godbomber. Cab decides to show off by being the first to arrive, but of course, Shūta has other ideas. The trio transforms to robot mode as they race down the stairway of the factory (with Minerva getting in on the fun by sliding down the railing), but Cab and Shūta wind up getting stuck in the doorway, and Minerva hops over them, winning the race, much to their disgust. After everyone calms down, Ginrai shows them the modified Godbomber, who now has cargo space to carry their three vehicle-mode Transtectors into battle. The first chance to put this feature to use comes sooner than expected, however, when Lightfoot arrives to deliver a report from Metalhawk, alerting them to Buster and Hydra's attack on the refinery.

Back in the desert, Mega and Giga have arrived on the scene in their combined form of Overlord, and watch as Hydra and Buster go about their mission. Soon, Ginrai and the Juniors arrive, and Ginrai instructs the Juniors to begin rescue operations as he launches into battle with the Decepticon brothers. With Hydra and Buster fighting more fiercely than ever, the odds don't look good for Ginrai until he combines with Godbomber and is able to fight his foes in the air. A God Punch attack from Ginrai shears one of Buster's wings off, distracting Hydra, but before Ginrai can exploit this opening, a blast from behind knocks him to the ground. He is, in fact, being fired upon by Giga, who has hidden his Gigatank beneath the shifting desert sands, and is able to get close enough to plant his barrel against Ginrai's head. There looks to be no way out, but then, Ginrai charges his body with Chōkon Power, and is able to vertically take off faster than Giga can fire, avoiding his blast. He separates from Godbomber in mid-air, and the trailer drone dives at Giga, opening fire with the God Cannon. Giga returns fire, but Godbomber dodges, and much to everyone's surprise, splits into its component parts... which reconfigure into a robot mode!

Over at the refinery, Minerva tends to the injured while Cab and Shūta fight fires. Shūta spots one particularly large flaming oil well, which is burning too strongly for his "Fire Buster" cartridges to handle, and he calls on Cab to use his Transtector's water cannons on it. Unfortunately, Cab has used up most of his flame retardant already, and it expires before the fire goes out. In a crazy stunt, Cab transforms to robot mode and dives on top of the flaming fountain, blocking the spout long enough for Shūta to blanket it with his last Fire Buster shot, successfully extinguishing the fire. The pair then head out to help Ginrai, and arrive just as Godbomber transforms, clashing with Hydra, who energizes the sand around them with Chichōkon Power and them holds off.

As Giga retreats under a barrage of firepower from Ginrai and the newly-born robot-mode Godbomber, Mega swoops in overhead aboard the Megajet, and combines with Giga into Overlord again. Hovering the sky above Ginrai and Godbomber, Overlord charges his body with Chōkon Power and begins to spin rapidly through the air, creating a whirling tornado of Chōkon-charged sand that sweeps the two Autobots up. They recombine into God Ginrai within the tornado and break free, then attempt to attack with a God Punch, which has no effect. Ginrai changes his tactics, aiming another God Punch at the ground; Giga mocks him, but is soon forced to eat his words when the God Punch bursts up off the sand and enters the tornado through its base, striking Overlord and throwing off his balance, sending him spinning off madly through the sky. Buster and Hydra combine and flee after their leader.

In the aftermath of the battle, Ginrai congratulates the Juniors on a job well done, and the group reflects on Godbomber's surprising new transformation, speculating that he responded to Ginrai's emotions.
Notes
Animation or technical errors
*In the middle of an oil refinery, surrounded by workers in jumpsuits and caps, there is... one, lone woman in traditional Arab dress. Buh-whaa?
*Apparently fear does lend you wings — a group of fleeing humans are shown to keep pace with Hydra's jet as he flies over the desert (maybe he's just flying slowly?).
*The interior of Minerva's mouth is completely white as she tells Shūta that he's treating the Godbomber as a mobile home.
*As Ginrai tells the Juniors to go do their mission while he's sitting in the dirt, his right hand is completely red for a couple of frames.
*During Ginrai's combination with Godbomber within the tornado, the Headmaster Juniors are visible piloting Godbomber. Except at this point in the episode, they're combined with their own Transtectors and watching the battle from afar.

Continuity errors
*First seen in the previous episode, the God Punch attack involves God Ginrai disconnecting and launching his forearms at his enemy for a rocket-powered long-range punch. Now, God Ginrai's forearms are components from Godbomber which lock over the top of Super Ginrai's normal arms when they combine, and when he launched them in the previous episode, his normal arms were visible underneath them. In this episode, however, the entire assembly disconnects at the elbow, leaving him without any forearms, until they reconnect after the attack finishes. The portrayal of the God Punch switches back and forth between these two interpretations for the rest of the series.

Continuity notes
*God Ginrai defeated Overlord in the previous episode.

Trivia
*This episode features the second appearance of the insert song, "Susume! Chōjin Masterforce".
*Giga's computer displays some text in an alphabet which is presumably Cybertronian, though it doesn't resemble previously seen forms.
*The refinery workers wear clothing extremely similar to that worn by the British Motors engineers, just in different colors and with some of the patches missing.
*The Gigatank is amazing! It can somehow not only operate while buried in sand, but also move around at incredible speed without surfacing! Sure, Giga's Chichokon powers probably helped out somehow, but still...
Synopsis
Aboard the Thunder Arrow on planet Micro, the freshly-liberated Guyhawk is properly reunited with his Breastforce comrades, with the exception of Hellbat, who Leozack has had step outside. Hellbat's paranoia immediately gets the better of him and he listens in on the conversation, discovering that Leozack has summoned an old subordinate, Deathcobra, to take Hellbat's place on the team.

Meanwhile, Star Saber and Governor Riker are busy scanning the planet to find some trace of the Breastforce, while speculating on why the villains put such effort into rescuing Guyhawk in the first place. Star Saber checks in with Holi, who is out searching with Jean and Clipper, and directs him to investigate the mountains outside the city. As bad luck would have it, the trio spot Hellbat flying over the mountains and observe him trailing a green helicopter.

The helicopter, as it turns out, is Deathcobra, and Hellbat has intercepted him with the intention of making a request. The two transform to robot mode to discuss it, and Deathcobra is rather disgusted to find that Hellbat wants him to go back to where he came from so that he can ensure he will still have a place on the Breastforce team. Deathcobra swats him away in revulsion and moves to leave, forcing Hellbat to pull his weapon on his would-be teammate. Deathcobra dares him to shoot, marching up and seizing the weapon's barrel, but Hellbat even surprises himself when he winds up pulling the trigger, blasting Deathcobra in his side. Holi, Jean and Clipper choose this moment to arrive, peering at the pair of Decepticons from the edge of a nearby cliff just as Deathcobra returns fire on Hellbat. The terrified Breastforcer dives behind a nearby boulder, wailing that he didn't mean it and begging Deathcobra to stop as he fires back blindly over the top of the rock. When the shooting suddenly stops, however, Hellbat peeps out to see that... he's managed to accidentally score a fatal hit on Deathcobra, killing him! Unsurprisingly, Hellbat panics and starts coming up with ways to hide the body, but when he looks around, he spots the Autobot trio on the cliff, and inspiration strikes. He immediately transforms and races back to the Thunder Arrow, where he blames Holi for Deathcobra's death.

As Holi and co. cautiously examine Deathcobra's body, Holi reports the strange occurrence to Star Saber, who tells them to be on their guard. Unfortunately, the warning comes just as the rest of the Breastforce appear, and Hellbat leads the charge on the three diminutive heroes. Star Saber immediately heads out to their rescue, arriving just in time to save an injured Clipper from Guyhawk. Although confused by Hellbat's claim that the Autobots are responsible for Deathcobra's death, Star Saber is ready for battle nonetheless, and manages to hold the Breastforce at bay, until Leozack makes a startling announcement, and orders the warriors to combine! The six Decepticons merge into Liokaiser, and Star Saber, realizing why rescuing Guyhawk had been such a necessity, links up with the V-Star to take on the giant combiner. As Star Saber and Holi struggle with Liokaiser, Jean and Clipper race off to inform Riker. The fight does not go well—Holi is injured, and Star Saber is robbed of his sword, punctured by spiked rings and skewered by Liokaiser's staff before being laid out.

As Liokaiser presses his blaster into Star Saber's face, a shining figure suddenly descends out of the sky—God Ginrai has arrived to join the battle! Even God Ginrai cannot handle Liokaiser alone, but when he and Star Saber double-team the Decepticon combiner, the villain is overpowered and separates back into his component parts. As the Decepticons flee, Star Saber attempts to give chase, but collapses and is caught by God Ginrai. Star Saber thanks his friend, but God Ginrai tells him that he is the one who should be giving thanks, for all the help Star Saber has given him protecting his sector of space. Jean and Clipper return just as Holi is blaming himself for getting Star Saber injured, but Star Saber assures him that it was not his fault. Concerns for his health are now secondary—the Decepticons are on their way back to Earth, and the Autobots have to hurry and catch up to them!
Notes
Lost in translation
Among the changes made by the Omni Productions dub]:
* Clipper says her legs have been injured rather than her arm.
* After the big battle, rather than announcing that she's called for a relief squad, Clipper offers Star Saber the use of a first aid kit.
* Leozack accuses Star Saber of killing Deathcobra, which is doubly wrong-Hellbat actually killed him, but blamed the murder on Holi.

Animation errors
* When Holi and Clipper open fire on the Breastforce, their gunfire is pink instead of green.
* As Liokaiser twists his spear in Star Saber's arm, his eyes are green instead of red.
* The spikes on Liokaiser's ring projectiles go from long and thin to shorter and thicker between shots-compare the initial readying of the ring to when one of them slams in front of Clipper.
* As Star Saber attempts to attack a distracted Liokaiser, his helmet is blue instead of red. The error happens later on as he picks up his fallen sword.
* Star Saber's back is missing its injuries when Liokaiser knocks away the Saber Blade.
* When Liokaiser's second spiked ring hits Star Saber's back, the gash from the first one is slightly above it, parallel to the ring. When Star Saber falls in front of Holi, however, the gashes are slightly larger and crossed in an "X" shape.
* At one point, Liokaiser's rings fire several spikes into Star Saber's chest. The extent of the damage fluctuates for the rest of the battle, but is never quite the same as the initial impact would suggest.
* God Ginrai's facial proportions vary wildly across his scenes-compare his face after he throws Liokaiser to his face as he thanks Star Saber for covering his sector for the last few episodes.

Transformers references
* The Autobots and Decepticons have been on Planet Micro since "Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior". That episode also featured the debuts of Clipper and Riker, and established that Micro was under Ginrai's protection.
* The Breastforce rescued Guyhawk in the previous episode. This episode reveals why the rescue was so important.

Trivia
*This episode is another one which foregoes either of Victorys stock title cards and uses white text on a black screen.
*Seriously, the Breastforce believed that Holi, a Micromaster, killed Deathcobra? Leozack was skeptical at least, so he might not have actually believed Hellbat-but even if he knew he was lying, he had to tolerate having him on the team to form Liokaiser.
*Star Saber really took a beating this episode-he could barely stand after the fight with Liokaiser. It won't be the last time, either...
*Despite taking no obvious damage itself, Deathcobra's Breast Animal appears to have gone offline at the same time as Deathcobra himself, suggesting the Breast Animals are entirely dependent on their Breastforce partner.
*Isn't it slightly odd that Deathcobra has an Earth vehicle for an alt-mode, despite the fact he's yet to visit the planet? For that matter, all the Micromasters seem to turn into Earth cars too.
*From his dialogue with Hellbat, Deathcobra seems to have been a pretty upstanding, honest kind of guy (for a Decepticon). Among other things, when he believes Hellbat has come to escort him back to base, he is quite appreciative. Later on, after refusing Hellbat's request to leave, he informs the schemer he will say nothing of his pathetic plea simply because they are fellow Decepticons. The good die young, it seems.
*Despite all the talk about how evil the Decepticons are, Leozack is actually pretty torn up about Deathcobra's death. He even sounds like he's barely holding back tears at one point. Of course, he then orders the Breastforce to massacre the Micromasters.

* As Star Saber grabs his fallen sword, his helmet is blue instead of red.
* God Ginrai's facial proportions vary wildly across his scenes-compare his face after he throws Liokaiser to his face as he thanks Star Saber for covering his sector for the last few episodes.
:Scientist is a class from War for Cybertron's multiplayer mode.

Scientists defeat their enemies with science. To that end, they use a variety of support weapons and abilities and can repair teammates. Scientists are the only class that can see their teammate's life bars. They can also transform into jets and attack with guided missiles. Awesome!

Characteristics
Life bar: 3

Chassis
Autobot
*Air Defender (Jetfire)
*Interceptor (Silverbolt)
*Skyraider (Air Raid)
Decepticon
*Energon Seeker (Seeker)
*Stalker (Slipstream, unlockable after beating Decepticon campaign)
*Retaliator (Shockwave, unlockable by preorder through Gamestop, DLC #1, available for the XBox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, but not for the PC version.)

Weapons
Scientists can equip two of these four weapons:
*Neutron assault rifle
They use energon clubs in melee and carry Energon grenades.

Abilities
Scientists can eventually choose two from four different abilities:
*Shockwave: Issue an area-wide force-bubble that pushes enemies back and causes damage.
*Spawn Sentry: Create an automatic hovering gun that can spot cloaked guys. Its life will continuously drain, but it can be healed with a Repair Ray.
*Drain: Siphon health from enemies.
*Disguise: Redeco yourself so you appear as an ally to your enemies. You will be revealed if the enemy targets you.
Vehicle mode:
*Barrel roll: A quick movement to either side, enabling evasion of enemy attacks. DO IT.

*Health Matrix 2.0 (3 kills): Teammates receive health for every kill.
*Overshield Matrix (5 kills): Teammates receive overshields.

An electromagnetic pulse (or EMP) is a magic event which disables or destroys some electronic/robotic devices, but leaves others conveniently operational.
During his days in the Great Wars, Ratchet carried a small EMP generator on his arm. He used this device on low power settings to place patients under general anesthetic, allowing him to perform painful or complex operations without causing the patient discomfort. He described its operation to Arcee, telling her it would "temporarily overload your consciousness center". At higher settings, the device is capable of immediately rendering a Transformer unconscious, even at range, and can also erase memory cores. Unfortunately, the generator was stolen by Lockdown, who used it as a weapon for many years before Ratchet was able to recover it. When Lockdown tried using it on Ratchet, Ratchet revealed that he was immune to it. The Thrill of the Hunt

In the present, on Earth, Ratchet and Bumblebee can create a directed EMP by "crossing the streams", so to speak, of their respective magnetic and electric weapons. Some combination of this EMP and the Key was seemingly responsible for granting sparks to the lifeless Dinobots. Blast from the Past
In the Great War on Cybertron, both Autobots and Decepticons used EMP weaponry. Scout-class warriors of either faction were known to utilize EMP Grenades that disabled an enemy's sensors, and Soldier-class warriors utilized EMP Shotguns, a highly damaging form of firearm. Ultra Magnus's hammer also sends out electromagnetic pulses, an ability shared by Brutes and Destroyers.

:Angolmois is a form of energy in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Angolmois energy is the life-force of Unicron. It is a powerful energy source which oftentimes has completely random and unpredictable effects on the things it comes in contact with. It can upgrade a Transformer and give them new bodies, or it can lift mountains and freeze planets.

Just like Unicron, Angolmois is extremely chaotic.

Fiction
Japanese cartoon continuity
Generation 1 cartoon
When Unicron's body exploded, the Angolmois energy (that green electric-stuff) was sent hurtling through time and space. The Transformers: The Movie

Kiss Play Position
Believing that they were collecting fragments of the Allspark for the Sparkbots, who claimed to be allies of Primus, the Kiss Players Marissa Faireborn, Atari Hitotonari and Shaoshao Li were actually assembling Unicron's dispersed Angolmois energy—which was, for some reason, stored inside famous Autobot leaders of the past, present and future. Fleeing through space and time to prehistoric Earth, the Sparkbots used the energy to resurrect Unicron...who was blown back into Angolmois energy by Primus shortly thereafter.

Primus trapped the energy deep within the planet and created Brave Maximus to guard it for eternity. Unfortunately, he left Earth with the Kiss Players around 2007, and therefore wasn't on-duty when Lio Convoy and Galvatron came around.

Beast Wars II cartoon
In the distant future, Earth turned into Gaea. Angolmois was riddled into the planet's surface and began to have bizarre effects on the environment.

During a space battle with Galvatron and his Predacons, Lio Convoy and the Maximals landed on Gaea after going through transwarp space. Realizing the destructive potential of Angolmois, Galvatron made it his goal to steal all of it from Gaea.

The Angolmois affected the Transformers on Gaea in many ways, including upgrading Megastorm, Starscream and BB, to name a few. Galvatron eventually sucked all the Angolmois from the planet using his artificial planet, Nemesis. After a fierce battle which resulted in the death of Galvatron, the Maximals being trapped in a wormhole and the Predacons being set adrift into deep space, all the Angolmois energy in Nemesis was sealed away in capsules and ejected into outer space.

Beast Wars Neo cartoon
The Convoy Council, unaware of the fate of Lio Convoy, ordered Big Convoy and his Maximal new recruits to investigate Gaea and see what was up. Unknown to Big Convoy, he was followed by Magmatron and his Predacons. After finding Lio Convoy's black box, they learned about the Angolmois capsules and immediately set off to reclaim them.

The Maximals and Predacons then raced to secure as many capsules as they could. The Angolmois capsules were wreaking havoc all over the galaxy, causing great destruction on the planets they wound up on.

Eventually, between the Maximals and the Predacons, all the Angolmois capsules were recovered. Then, the mysterious and insanely powerful Blendtrons showed up, beat the mortal crap out of both factions and stole all the Angolmois capsules.

As it turns out, the Blendtrons were creations of Unicron. They released all the Angolmois energy into the corpse of Galvatron, resurrecting Unicron. Unicron then attacked Cybertron and possessed Vector Sigma, turning the planet into his new body. Only by teaming up were Magmatron and Big Convoy able to defeat Unicron and save Cybertron.

Japanese comic continuity
Beast Wars II comic
stub
Beast Wars Neo comic
The Angolmois capsules scattered through the galaxy by the explosion of the Nemesis had a particularly unusual effect: they evolved ordinary animals into Transformers! Magmatron, his troops, and Big Convoy all became Transformers through this unusual process.

IDW Beast Wars comics
Shokaract was infected with Angolmois and lay dormant as the energy transformed him. His will overrode the Unicronian dominance, as least temporarily. Beast Wars Sourcebook Windrazor was corrupted by Angolmois and served as Unicron's herald for a period of time. Beast Wars Sourcebook

Stellar cycles after Shokaract was infected with Angolmois, Elephorca, Drancron and Rartorata began collecting Angolmois as an offering to Shokaract, who believed it would cause his ascension and didn't realize the power was making him a mere pawn of Unicron. The Ascending issue 1

After several incidents of civil unrest came to the fore, Big Convoy implied that Angolmois might very well be the cause of the riots, as it had seemingly become an addictive drug to Cybertronians. Big Convoy and the Maximal Elders were familiar with Angolmois and its addictive, unpredictable effects on Cybertronians. Angolmois's mutagenic properties became all the more terrifying when Razorbeast was infected by Rartorata, and became a feral berserker. The Ascending issue 2

Eventually, Shokaract's minions began spreading Angolmois to the Cybertronian populace and causing large-scale riots, which empowered an "Anti-Matrix" that he had created. Eventually Bump developed an anti-Angolmois retrovirus and Shokaract killed himself on the discovery he was Unicron's pawn, ending the Angolmois threat. The Ascending issue 4

Animated continuity
Beachcomber apparently utilizes Angomois to "segfault his RAM" according to Rattletrap. Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac Volume 2

Notes
The word "Angolmois" is apparently taken from the writings of Nostradamus—specifically, from Century X, Quatrain 72 of his Prophecies. In this stanza, Nostradamus uses a sort of "Pig-Latin-French" to refer to the Mongols (which would normally be Mongolois in French) as the Angolmois ("Ahn-gol-mwa" for the French-impaired).

There seems to be a fair level of fascination with Nostradamus and his prophecies in Japanese pop culture. The use of the term "Angolmois" here is just one example of its occurrences in anime, much less Japanese pop culture in general.

Angolmois shares many properties with Dark Energon (both being addictive, corruptive energies linked to Unicron), but any connection between the two has not been revealed or established.

:Dark Energon is a form of energon from the Prime continuity family.

Dark Energon is a powerful, corrupted version of energon which can be used as a violent weapon and explosive. As energon is the emanation of Primus, from which all Transformer life and power is formed, Dark Energon is similarly the emanation of Unicron, released after his first battle with the Thirteen original Transformers. Even the smallest particle of Dark Energon can corrupt any amount of regular energon.

Dark Energon? I thought that was the stuff of legend!

Effects
The violet-glowing Dark Energon supercharges any Transformer who ingests it, making them stronger, faster, more powerful...and more aggressive. It turns pain into pleasure, rendering any blows inflicted on a user futile. However, it also acts as a powerful narcotic, filling the user with thrilling, dark sensations and causing addiction. Dark Energon withdrawal turns the user into a raving brute desperate to do anything for more. If the craving is not satisfied, the user devolves to a beast-like state and eventually dies.

Those who imbibe Dark Energon have been seen to project it from their bodies for various destructive purposes, such as attacking enemies, overloading computers, and bringing machines under their control. When a user is killed, the energy acts like a sentient thing (a worrying aspect for a force originating from Unicron) and flies from their corpse to empower any other user nearby.

Pieces of Cybertron infected by Dark Energon tend to turn purple and explode upward into twisted, sharp spikes and growths of metal. Some Dark Energon wielders have even shown the ability to detonate a cluster of these spikes in order to produce a group of mechanical spider-like creatures, which swarm anything nearby.

A Cybertronian corpse injected with Dark Energon will reanimate itself as a feral zombie, intent on destroying all in its path. They are mostly mindless berserkers, but can be commanded by a living Cybertronian who has also been corrupted by the evil energy.

Fiction
Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron
The gathering and storage of Dark Energon aboard the newly constructed Trypticon was organized by an early assembly of the High Council that included Sentinel Prime. The station was guarded by Seekers who were mostly unaware of the nature of Dark Energon. During the civil war, Starscream claimed the station for the Decepticons, but of fear he did not let Megatron know about Trypticon's significance, and despite his allies' attempts they could not find much of the information about Trypticon on the DataNet had been censored (by Alpha Trion, who knew that knowledge of Dark Energon was dangerous).

During the last days of the war Soundwave found forgotten corners of the DataNet referring to "Sparks of Unicron". Megatron forgave Starscream, acknowledging his fears about Dark Energon's overly destructive use on the battlefield, and because the Air Commander had not tried to use it against him. Shockwave forced two of Starscream's scientists to ingest Dark Energon and the explosive result led to the Darkening of all of Megatron's soldiers. Megatron and Starscream both found the substance invigorating, but a deprivation study of the first two subjects showed they had become rabid, and Megatron vowed he would kill all his soldiers before he was deprived. The Darkened Decepticons attacked the remaining Autobot outposts on Cybertron, but to the Autobots' advantage, whenever a battle was prolonged, the Decepticons would have to flee or risk having the Dark Energon run out.

Soundwave learned of the Geosynchronous Energon Bridge, which could transport vast amounts of energon from Cybertron to Trypticon to be corrupted. Starscream activated it, but it proved futile in quenching the Decepticons' thirst. Soundwave recalled the Plasma energy Chamber within Teletraan-1 and the Code Keys required to activate it. The Chamber would enable Megatron to corrupt Cybertron's core and flood the planet with Dark Energon. During the ensuing battle with Omega Supreme for the Chamber, the more the Autobots killed the Decepticons, the more Dark Energon left their corpses to empower Megatron, who was able to knock Omega down and tear the Chamber from his chest.

After Megatron Darkened the core, Optimus Prime, Jazz and Prowl launched a rescue of Sentinel Prime in Kaon. They were met with little resistance, aside from two gibbering guards. Optimus recognized the Dark Energon had taken its toll on Decepticon competence. Afterwards, he, Bumblebee and Jetfire ventured to the core to rid it of the poisonous Chamber. The Dark Energon briefly tempted Jetfire to try some, while it distressed Bumblebee to the point he physically tore out the corruption spikes on the core, though it allowed Optimus to remove the Chamber. The core told Optimus the Autobots would have to leave Cybertron while it healed the planet, and gave him the Matrix of Leadership, which would one day act in concert with the core to restore their world. While leaving, Optimus chastised Megatron for turning his soldiers into addicts just to win the war. Starscream also vowed never to use the substance again. Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron

Prime cartoon
Dark Energon is a known material but is so rare it's practically non-existant. Darkness Rising, Part 3

When Megatron returned from deep space after three years away, he revealed he'd found a new way to win the war: Dark Energon, a substance rumoured to be the blood of Unicron and possessing the power to raise the dead. A test with the corpse of Cliffjumper proved it could indeed do this, turning the dead into berserker Terrorcons; it could also turn machinery into animalistic robots, and merely touching it could render a Transformer ill. Megatron, being Megatron, thought it'd be a jolly good idea to shove some into his own spark. Darkness Rising, Part 2 He survived and began to gibber and rant about the power and how it was like he could hear Unicron's thoughts...

Optimus Prime recognised what Dark Energon was, and Ratchet was stunned to learn that's what they were facing. They went to the site of an old Transformer battle, knowing Megatron would plan to raise the fallen as an undead army with the Dark Energon... but got there too late to stop the tyrant! Darkness Rising, Part 3 Megatron showed off by sending waves of Terrorcons to exhaust the two, and then revealed that was not his endgame. Discovering the Decepticons had built a space bridge, they realized Megatron intended to reawaken Cybertron's fallen soldiers, and send them to destroy Earth. Darkness Rising, Part 4 Megatron threw his store of Dark Energon crystals into the space bridge, but before the Terrorcons could cross the space bridge, the Autobots sabotaged it, causing it to collapse on itself, taking Megatron and the Terrorcons with it. Darkness Rising, Part 5

Luckily for Megatron, his Dark Energon infusion kept him alive until Starscream found him floating in space. Discovering the cause of his survival, Starscream ripped the Dark Energon crystal out and prepared to leave Megatron to die, only to have to take Megatron back to the ship when Soundwave's Deployer discovered them. Masters & Students
Transformers: War for Cybertron
Dark Energon was discovered over ten thousand years ago. When the Cybertronian race learned of its powerful yet volatile nature, it was sealed away in an orbital space station and placed under the watchful eye of the Seekers, including the scientific Jetfire and the former Sky Commander, Starscream. At some point, experimentation on Dark Energon began, and a small quantity of the substance became unstable. The resulting explosion ripped apart an entire section of the space station; a level of destruction beyond any weapon known to the Cybertronians. The horrors of Dark Energon were noted by many, such as Jetfire, and it was deemed that it must remain sealed for the rest of time. This continued to be the case for centuries, causing the existence of Dark Energon to become a myth that few believed.

After learning the existence of this substance, Megatron took a fleet of cruisers to lay siege to the station, crashing his own ship into it to gain entrance. Once inside, he had to battle the forces of Starscream and Jetfire, both of whom attempted to dissuade him, claiming that Dark Energon was impossible to control. As Megatron drew closer to the storage chamber, Starscream attempted to destroy the last remnants of Dark Energon, but Megatron was able to breach the core before the Sky Commander could complete the destruction. When the dark substance was finally revealed, Megatron, believing himself to be worthy of such a weapon, confidently immersed himself in it.

Despite Starscream's insistence that Dark Energon destroyed everything it touched, the Decepticon leader managed to control it, emerging more powerful than ever. His first act was to infuse Brawl and Barricade with Dark Energon; claiming it was their birthright. His second act was to cut through the final defenses between himself and the Seekers in a matter of seconds, thanks to his new power. Seeing Dark Energon being tamed, Starscream offered his services to Megatron, claiming he knew of an Energon Bridge that could produce more of the substance. Seeing this as an act of betrayal, Jetfire escaped the station in order to inform Zeta Prime of this treachery.

Shortly after this, Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker travelled into the depths of Cybertron in order to reactivate the Energon Bridge. Facing many defenses and enemy Autobots, they managed to corrupt the central generator of the Energon Bridge. Fending off the intial infection, the core attempted to defend itself and purge the Seekers, but the evil planes quickly brought it down. This allowed the Energon Bridge to activate and beam its contents to the orbital station, allowing mass production of Dark Energon.

With mass quantities of Dark Energon in his possession, Megatron sought to corrupt the whole of Cybertron by infesting the Core itself. To do so, he needed the Omega Key in order to get past the Omega Gate that barred entry to the centre of the Transformer homeworld. Thus, he assaulted Iacon in order to claim it from the Stellar Galleries. However, Zeta Prime learnt of this and spirited the key to his Vaults. During his journey to claim the Key, Megatron used his personal store of Dark Energon to corrupt doorways that blocked his entry, and his army made use of bombers carrying payloads tainted with the stuff. By this time, the Autobots had developed defenses against the Dark Energon (including auto-purging turrets and doors resistant to the energy), but the Decepticons were able to cut through them in short order.

Megatron eventually claimed the Omega Key, but this simply activated Omega Supreme: the true key to the Core of Cybertron. During the battle with the giant Autobot, Megatron made liberal use of Dark Energon to corrupt the Guardian of Iacon: first by tainting the Energon batteries he used to repair himself, and then by blasting a huge beam of Dark Energon straight into his damaged chest. Using him to open the Omega Gate, the Decepticons placed Corruptors into position and infected the Core itself, spreading Dark Energon all across the planet.

The effects were immediate; Dark Energon crystals began sprouting all around the planet. Megatron made frequent announcements to the remaining Cybertronian population, urging them to accept the "gift" of Dark Energon. Cybertronian repair arrays attempted to contain the damage, but they could not slow down its effects; even the planet's natural cleansing organisms were incapable of stopping it. In fact, Dark Energon even corrupted one such beast, transforming it into a ghastly abomination that spread Dark Energon and fed on the corrupted Core.

Upon his appointment to the position of Prime, Optimus led the Autobots to free Omega Supreme from the Decepticons, curing him of his Dark Energon infection. Gaining entry past the Omega Gate, they went into the depths of Cybertron in order to reach the Core, where they aided the space slugs in clearing Dark Energon crystals and Decepticons alike. Eventually, they reached the Core and killed the corrupted slug, but the corruption had already taken its toll on the Core. In order to preserve itself, it had to enter into a hibernation mode that would last for millions of years, rendering the planet uninhabitable. Transformers: War for Cybertron

Synopsis
Rhinox tracks the transwarp wavefront released by the destruction of the alien Planet Buster, announcing it will arrive at Cybertron in a few hours and that the Maximals are going home soon.

Meanwhile, Megatron has made similar calculations and is less than pleased. Inferno reports that their attack on the early humans caused them to scatter, making their extinction an impossibility. Megatron decides to implement one final plan—a gamble, he notes, as his security cameras show Blackarachnia leaving the Predacon base.

Silverbolt flies to a secluded location where he meets up with Blackarachnia, delivering to her a graviton generator. He once again offers her a spot in the Maximal ranks. She refuses, telling him that she likes being a bad girl—and Silverbolt knows he likes it too. They embrace...

In another time and place, a Cybertronian outpost is violently rocked by the transwarp wavefront. The Tripredacus Council convenes, having traced the wavefront signature back to Megatron. They detonate a Cybertronian satellite to make sure the Maximal sensors don't detect the wave and send an operative to find and capture Megatron. Operating a special stealth-equipped transwarp cruiser, his orders are to "terminate with extreme prejudice."

Back at the Axalon, the Maximals get ready for Megatron's inevitable final attack on their base. Waspinator and Inferno ready some attack systems, but Rampage decides to take the more direct approach and assaults Sentinel's shields with his weapons. The battle begins and the Predacons appear to be winning until reinforcements come from above. Megatron orders a retreat and the invisible source of the Maximals' help lands.

The Axalons hatch opens and Silverbolt's super doggie nose smells something. All the Maximals draw their weapons as two red lasers appear out of nowhere from the hatch. Optimus Primal finally realizes that their reinforcements came in the form of a Decepticon who after the Great War was granted amnesty and rebuilt as a Predacon.

Shots are fired, knocking all of the Maximals' weapons out of their hands. The mysterious assailant jumps into the bridge and reveals himself as Ravage. He apologizes for disarming them, saying that he was concerned that he might be attacked before he could explain himself. Rattrap appears to justify his caution, saying that the only thing worse than a Predacon is a Decepticon. Optimus Primal shoves Rattrap aside and orders him to shut up but does inform Ravage that they've been fighting Megatron for a while in a less than friendly manner. Ravage offers the apologies of the Predacon Alliance for Megatron's actions, insisting that the Alliance did not sanction them, and says that he is here to help neutralize Megatron. But he lies about the transwarp wave, saying that it was too weak for anything but the Predacon sensors to detect and that the reason he's alone is because they detected Megatron's energy signature only, hoping to settle this "quietly".

At the Predacon base, Blackarachnia finishes work on a flying stasis pod with Silverbolt's graviton generator. Her celebration is cut short, however, when Megatron calls for her. Megatron correctly anticipates a Maximal retaliation and sends everyone but Waspinator to fortify the base. Waspinator, he sends on a "special mission" which Blackarachnia takes note of.

Ravage's transwarp cruiser takes off from the Axalon with the Maximals onboard. Cheetor is still unsure about their plan, but Ravage notes that the ship provides several advantages (such as the ability to use Ravage's own cloaking ability) and Ravage observes that they have another one inside the Predacon base. This sets off alarms in Tarantulas's lair and he transforms and rolls out in the same direction as the cruiser. Ravage and the Maximals attack the Predacon base while Silverbolt ignores Optimus' orders to take down Blackarachnia, who takes off towards Waspinator's secret location.

Ravage begins firing upon the downed Predacon ship and Megatron orders his troops to keep fighting, but suddenly he is bound to his chair with energy rings as the base's power is cut. Ravage, Optimus, Rattrap, and Rhinox walk in, and Ravage places Megatron under arrest. Are the Beast Wars over? To be continued!
Notes
*In the opening shot, parts of Optimus Primal pre-transmetal fly at the screen.
*The Tripredacus Council shown at the beginning of the episode were meant to be the Tripredacus gestalt toy, and were even referred to by their individual names in the original script. However, time constraints prevented the renders for the figures from exactly matching the toys they were based on, so Hasbro asked that their individual names not be referred to, though the gestalt name was still used for the group.
*It's mentioned that the Axalon disappeared "last mega-cycle" which usually refers to a time period of around an hour. It may have meant to have been "deca-cycle".

Technical/Animation Glitches
*When the Maximals are getting thrown around by Rampage's intial attack on their base, Rattrap slams into the elevator door, shattering the glass. However, the cracks appear on the pane directly above and below the glass itself, making it look like Rattrap cracked the door itself.

Continuity Errors
*While the Maximals jump from Ravage's cruiser, the auto-guns have no effect on them whatsoever, while they've dropped them before easily.

Transformers References
* Ravage was one of the original cassette-robots to serve under Soundwave in the original cartoon and comics.

Real-World References
*Six Lasers Over Cybertron, which Cheetor gets excited about, is a reference to Six Flags over various states.
*Rattrap speaks of places in Cybertron where the servingbots walk around "minus their torso plates" and then does sort of a "wink wink, nudge nudge" toward Silverbolt. He's referencing strip clubs, of course.
*Cicadacon quotes from Apocalypse Now with "Terminate with extreme prejudice."
*"Rampage, position yourself in Subsector Hooks", spoken by Megatron, is a reference to fan Hooks.
*The three missiles Rampage fires at the Axalon to start the attack each bear a symbol: a classical model of the atom (a nuclear warhead?), a death's head poison symbol, and a peace sign, of all things. The peace missile makes another appearance in Optimal Situation.
*Ravage arrests Megatron in the name of the "Pax Cybertronia", a parallel to the Pax Romana.
Synopsis
In a wild valley, a group of primitive hominids forage for food. A gargantuan snake attacks two of their number, and the protohumans are helpless to stop it...

At the Axalon, a haunted Dinobot meditates on his sword... and holds its blade ominously over his chest. But after a long moment of tension and hesitation, he casts it aside with a growl of frustration.

Rhinox has been calculating the path of the Transwarp Wave from the Planet Buster's destruction—it's traveling through time at an accelerated rate, and will reach Cybertron in the "present", thus alerting Cybertron to their location. Optimus fears Megatron has made similar calculations, and the group realizes they need to increase their defenses.

Dinobot, still somber, runs into Rattrap, who nearly goads him into a fight over his turning the Disk over to Megatron. Rattrap stalks off, concluding that he'd thought Dinobot was at least forthright. Dinobot is left to reflect that his past actions cannot be undone... but they "may yet be mitigated". He arms himself and heads off into the wastes.

On aerial recon, Cheetor observes Megatron and Rampage out for a stroll. They drive him off with some damage, but Cheetor calls in the sighting to Dinobot, who promises to follow up.

At his lair, Tarantulas has captured a tasty antelope for his dinner. But as he creeps up to the struggling beast, Dinobot bursts out of the ground, holding him at gunpoint and demanding to know what information is on the Golden Disk. Tarantulas doesn't know—there are no more copies remaining, and Megatron is keeping the Disk on his person at all times. Still holding him at gunpoint, Dinobot uses Tarantulas as his unwilling ride.

The protohumans scatter and panic as Megatron flies overhead and lands. Rampage sneers that the Maximals will soon arrive from Cybertron, and that he anticipates Megatron's imminent demise. Megatron admits that's very likely... but only if history remains as it is.

Megatron explains that the Golden Disk contains images recorded in the future, including one of a nearby mountain. Megatron has Rampage destroy the mountaintop. After a moment, the image on the disk changes to suit the altered reality, to Megatron's delight. Dinobot observes all this with dawning dread: Megatron has the power to change the future.

The valley they are standing above, Megatron explains, spawned the human race. Their interference helped the Autobots win the Great War, thereby allowing the Maximals to rule over the Predacons today. But Megatron has a different history in mind. Summoning the rest of his troops, he orders them to annihilate the valley and its inhabitants. With the protohumans destroyed, the human race will never have existed!

While Dinobot's back is turned, Tarantulas blasts him; Dinobot reciprocates by squashing him under a rock. Dinobot contacts Optimus, who orders him to maintain position, but Dinobot knows there is no time to wait. With his questions answered, Dinobot is ready to face his destiny.

Dinobot moves in to attack the entire Predacon force single-handed. He blasts, punches and stomps his way past Megatron's minions, but loses his weapons, suffers considerable damage, and drains most of his energy supply. His computer warns him that he must enter stasis lock to survive... a command which Dinobot overrides.

Megatron confronts the damaged warrior, gloating over his near-total victory; when Dinobot starts to attack, Megatron reveals a human captive. The hostage is enough to make Dinobot halt; Megatron rebukes him for weakness. But Dinobot is a warrior still. Forging a makeshift hammer from a rock and stick, he knocks the Disk out of Megatron's hand. With the last of his energy, he summons one final optic blast, shattering the Disk.

Furiously lamenting his failure, Megatron flees as the Maximals arrive. Cheetor douses the flames of the burning valley. The Maximals gather around the fallen Dinobot, but it is too late to help him. Optimus assures him that he has saved untold lives yet to come. Dinobot exchanges a final round of barbs with Rattrap; he asks them all to tell his story truthfully, both the good and the bad, and allow him to be judged accordingly. With that, the proud warrior dies. Rattrap leads the others in a salute as Dinobot's spark leaves his body, with Primal wishing it on to the Matrix, there to join Cybertron's finest.

The next morning, the Maximals hold a funeral for Dinobot. The fliers soar through the air in a salute, as Rattrap and Rhinox dissolve Dinobot's remains.

At the valley, a curious protohuman finds Dinobot's hammer. He soon figures out how to use it to help gather food... and to fend off predators, such as the giant snake. The protohuman's yell of triumph echoes through the valley.
:—Quickstrike totally underestimates Dinobot.

"Hmm, my ears are burning! Yesss! Why, Dinobot, what a delightful surprise! Let's see, where are we now? I have the Golden Disk, I have the power to change the future, and the only obstacle in my path to unimaginable glory... is yourself. Exhausted. Damaged beyond recovery. Defeated."<br />
"Not just yet!"<br />
"Ah-ah-ah!" [Megatron reveals a bound proto-human] "One more step, and it's raining bits of early anthropoid, yesss." [Dinobot hesitates] "Oh dear, how positively Maximal of you. You were weakened before you started, Dinobot. Weakened by compassion."
:—Megatron confronts the severely damaged Dinobot.

"Face it, Dinobot! You're old technology, obsolete. What could you possibly do?" <br />
"Improvise."
:-Megatron is about to find out that Dinobot has one more trick up his sleeve.

Optimus Primal: "Well fought, my friend. You saved the valley. You saved the lives of those who live here... and of those who are still to come."<br>
Dinobot: "Then... there is nothing to regret."<br>
Rattrap: "Like I said, you're just a blasted, slag-spouting saurian, but... it's nice to know where you stand."<br />
Dinobot:"Upwind of you, for preference, vermin. ...Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence."
:— Dinobot shares last words with his comrades

"He lived a warrior... and died a hero. Let his spark join the Matrix, the greatest of Cybertron."

:—Optimus Primals eulogy for Dinobot

Notes
Technical and animation errors
* The interior of the Axalon, and thus the doors to Dinobot's quarters, were made at a different scale to his character model, so he could not actually fit through the doorway. Bob Forward explained that it had to be faked by a cut.
* When Rattrap is working at the wall panel, his right forearm is backwards and remains thus until he is grandly gesturing.
* When Megatron is flying over the proto-human valley, his legs are missing and his body has very little detail.
* As Quickstrike approaches Dinobot, his left shin is backwards.
* At Dinobot's funeral, Rattrap is in his pre-Transmetal body. On the Madman DVD commentary for this episode, Bob Forward could not believe how the production team (who had viewed this scene at least a hundred times trying to get everything right) did not notice the fact they used the wrong Rattrap, and yet every fan did.

Continuity errors
* The strategy of the Maximal cavalry seems a bit odd. Granted, arriving in ones and twos would make them more vunerable to attack but surely there would be some advantage in sending at least Cheetor on ahead? Or are we supposed to assume that every single Maximal, from jet-powered cheetah to bog-standard rhino, has the same top speed? (It's especially odd for Rhinox, considering that vehicle-mode Rattrap has given someone a lift before, and Primal will give Rhinox a lift later).
* When Dinobot laments about Megatron's power being limitless, Megatron and Rampage can be seen on the cliff right behind him. This and the previous shot also indicate that Dinobot is right out in the open, possibly exposing himself in full view of both Predacons. So...exactly why didn't Megatron or Rampage notice Dinobot, now?
* Megatron left the field of battle in Maximal hands with all of his troops incapacitated. Yet next episode, the Predacons are back under his command. The Maximals must have simply left and allowed Megatron to collect their injured chassis at his leisure instead of taking them prisoner.
* Towards the end of the episode, listen closely when the caveman hits an oncoming snake with Dinobot's hammer. A mechanical thud can be heard when the snake hits the ground, making it sound as if the snake is made of metal.

Transformers references
*Megatron orders the destruction of the prehumans to prevent the development of mankind. Humans assisted the Autobots to win the Great War. Most of these were probably Witwickys.

Real-world references
* As the Predacons jump into the valley to destroy the hominids, Rampage crushes a butterfly. This evokes the famous Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder", in which a time traveler in the past steps on a butterfly, thus dramatically altering the future of humanity. It is also reminiscent of the Butterfly Effect, a principle of chaos theory which holds that a small change (a flap of a butterfly's wings, killing a few dozen hominids) can eventually lead to vast changes (changes in storm systems a world away, the dominion of Predacons over Maximals). Of course, the writers may have merely intended Rampage's act to symbolize how killing the hominids would be no more difficult for the Predacons than crushing a butterfly . . .
* When Dinobot is leaving the base, he comments that "a deed, once done, cannot be undone", a slight modification of the Shakespearean quote "what is done cannot be undone".
* Dinobot's final words, "The rest is silence", are taken directly from Shakespeare's Hamlet.
* In a bit of foreshadowing, while Dinobot is contemplating suicide, three ravens fly past his window in the missing man formation, which the Maximal fliers use in their salute to him at his funeral.
* Right after Dinobot crash-lands on Waspinator (for the umpteenth time, Waspinator gets no respect) Rampage points his cannon at Dinobot with the aim view similar to the gun barrel views from numerous James Bond movies. Of course, most Bond villains do not give the opponent time to stuff a trashed Waspinator into the barrel (for the umpteenth and 1 time, Waspinator gets no respect) but still...

Trivia
* Beast Wars co-story editor Bob Forward drew storyboards for this episode. Not only is it the only Beast Wars episode to be directed by the series's writers, but it is also the only episode to be done up in storyboards rather than being directed on-the-fly. Bob Forward worked in person with the Mainframe animators for this episode.
* The original storyboards were auctioned for charity at a BotCon.
* According to Bob Forward, Megatron's transformation sequence had to be reconstructed to be able to show his transformation from underneath for one shot. Previously, the animation only "worked" when seen from eye-level or above.
* During the recording of this episode, Scott McNeil was attempting to deliver Dinobot's last words, but was continually interrupted by the recording crew's laughter. He is reputed to have said while still in character, "Do you mind?! I'm trying to die here!"
* According to McNeil, Dinobot knew he was going to die five episodes before he did, as right up until the last second, he believed Dinobot to only be "cartoon dead" as opposed to "dead dead".
* When originally broadcast in the United Kingdom, this episode was edited, with Dinobot's contemplated suicide completely excised and his hallway altercation with Rattrap cut down to only a fraction of its actual length. In the latter case, this seem to serve no other purpose than the elimination of the word "slag", and Dinobot's dying exchange with Rattrap was likewise altered to purge the word.
* At face value, Optimus' line about Dinobot saving "those who are still to come" seems to refer to modern humanity, who would evolve from the protohumans in the valley. However, a later episode would reveal that Optimus has a significantly more personal reason to be worried about Megatron's attempted genocide...
* It's no surprise that a DVD containing this episode was packaged with Dinobot for Beast Wars 10th Anniversary. This is the only post-Season 1 episode included with any 10th Anniversary figures.
* Bob Forward considers this to be his favorite Beast Wars episode, as well as the "The Agenda" three-parter.
