Within The Big City, a mysterious rider on a toyetic purple motorcycle lands from space.

In the [[Autobot]] base, Hot Shot is practicing swinging his [[Star Saber]]. Billy suspects that since the Star Saber is the most powerful weapon in the universe, Hot Shot, by extension, is the most powerful Transformer. Although Carlos feels that's not exactly how things work. Soon Red Alert comes to tell Hot Shot another Mini-Con has been detected and the males pledge to be Hot Shot's cheerleaders. In the Autobot's main control room, Alexis determines the [[Mini-Con]] panel's location in a freeway tunnel in grid sector 29365. The Autobots rush into action and the kids come along too, for cheerleading purposes (with Red Alert's approval).

Already at the scene, Demolishor and Cyclonus guard the outside of the tunnel and see the oncoming Autobots. Inside, Starscream and Megatron oversee Scavenger's digging, who resents having to do this labor.

To delay the Autobots, Cyclonus transformers and uses his alt mode to force a civilian truck into lodging itself in the highway horizontally, retarding the flow of traffic. Hot Shot uses Jolt to circumvent this traffic obstacle, while Optimus drops off Billy and Fred, speeding away before noticing the mysterious purple bike drive by to pick up one of the kids.

Cyclonus is chased by Hot Shot (carrying Rad and Carlos), who in turn is being chased down by Scavenger. Hot Shot drops off the kids, transformers, and summons the Star Saber to again engage in Scavenger in direct combat. Cyclonus attempts to take advantage of the fight, by shooting Hot Shot from behind. As soon as Cyclonus misses, the cries of Billy, kidnapped by the motorcyclist, distract everybody.

The motorcyclist stops and let's Billy off so that Billy can hug Rad. (Fred meanwhile, remains alone and unloved). Then the purple bike returns to the duel between Scavenger and Hot Shot, and with an impressive jump, the bike takes Cyclonus out of the sky. Just then, Alexis and the Street Action Team arrive near the duel scene and meets up with Rad, Billy, and Carlos and she yells at them for abandoning her.

Scavenger and Hot Shot finally begin their battle, and Scavenger grabs Hot Shot out of a slow-motion leap and slams the Autobot into the ground. Seeing the unfinished section of the highway, Hot Shot releases the Star Saber Mini-Cons and drives away, and Scavenger chases after him. The motorcyclist continues to follow the fight.

Fred: Still unloved.

Within the tunnel, the Autobots and Decepticons battle, while Hot Shot and Scavenger literally drive right through, and Cyclonus gives up his struggle with Smokescreen to follow the duel. When Scavenger arrives on the incomplete section of the highway, Hot Shot leaps from the sky and lands behind Scavenger. With much vigor, Hot Shot slices the entire section of the road away, causes it to fall. Scavenger just manages to make it back onto the stable section of the road by hanging onto Cyclonus's flying alt mode.

Defeated, Scavenger laughs and berates Hot Shot, saying that he would prove Hot Shot's incompetence another day. At that moment, the Motorcyclist also laughs at Hot Shot.

Inside the tunnel, the defeated Decepticons teleport away again. Hot Shot, the kids, and the Motorcyclist arrive in the tunnel too. Optimus thanks the stranger, and the bike transforms and introduces himself as Sideways. Smokescreen then announces that he's found the Mini-con panel, which activates and reveals itself to be [[Spiral]].

Back at the Autobot base, Billy is riding around with Sideways some more, and Fred accepts an offer (translated by Carlos) to ride on Spiral. Hot Shot and Red Alert agree that Sideways might not be entirely trustworthy. Inside the base, Rad and Alexis also admit to each other that they also get a bad vibe from Sideways. Fred, after riding around on Spiral for a while, inquires regarding the location of the bathroom.

Depth Charge was a security officer on [[Colony Omicron]] when Protoform X broke free and went on a rampage. As the colony's sole survivor, Depth Charge made hunting down "X" his only mission in life. Pursuing Protoform X to places throughout the Universe (including [[Starbase Rugby]]) Depth Charge successfully captured Protoform X, and turned him over to the [[Maximal Elder]]s. The Elders decided that Protoform X should be placed in stasis aboard the [[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]] and dumped on an uninhabited world.

Knowing that "[[Optimus Primal (BW)|Primal]] would screw it up", Depth Charge continued to monitor the Universe for any trace of Protoform X. The sensors on his [[Starhopper]] picked up traces of Protoform X just as he was pulled through a temporal anomaly. The resulting crash left him on prehistoric Earth with a transmetal Manta Ray body, and put him right in the middle of the Beast Wars.

Depth Charge became a wild card for the Maximals. They never knew if he could be counted on, as his pursuit of Rampage always took precedent. In the end, Depth Charge and Rampage met in a final battle, with Depth Charge shoving an energon crystal through Rampage's spark. The resulting explosion killed both combatants.

==Synopsis==
[[Jeff Grey]], [[Bill Gordon]] and [[Neil Travers]] are traveling to [[Antarctica]], where two of their fathers work at the [[Federation of Western Europe]]'s oil fields. When they Arrive at ''Fossil Point Station'' however, they discover Jeff's father was called away by a discovery at the nearby drillsite.

The three cadge a ride on a transport plane, where Jeff encounters the [[Autobot]] [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], in storage and being transported to the same location. They bond over a mutual admiration for Hot Rod's mad driving skillz and a love of the [[Gus Gopher Show]]. When the plane is shot down, they find themselves stranded in a deadly blizzard, only to be rescued by the benevolent [[City-Dwellers]].

The City-Dwellers' leader [[The Watcher]] takes them on a tour of the city, showing off its many technological marvels, before taking them to meet the excavation team Jeff's father is on (which is only just now reachign the city's entrance.)

The [[Combaticons]] appear on the surface, ivnestigating the wreckage- it was [[Blast-Off]] that destroyed the plane. [[Slingshot]] and [[Skydive]] go to fight them while Hot Rod and the humans continue their tour.

While exploring an illusion-room, they are approached by the Decepticon [[Ravage]], who informs them the City-Dwelelrs shot down their plane, not the Decepticons. Their guide intervenes- and it shot by Hot Rod's weapon-- which only affects robots. The City-Dwellers plan to study the agressive instincts of humans, Autobot and Decepticons in order to program them into themselves and conquor Earth.

Jeff suggests Ravage substitute his recording of the ''Gus Gopher Show'' for the footage of the Arielbots and Combaticons fighting. Ravage likes the idea- it's sneaky!

When the City-Dwellers upload the 'combat data' into their robotic brains, they are instead reprogrammed to act like wacky cartoon characters. The invasion foiled, the Decepticons are reluctantly allowed to depart under a flag of truce, leaving Hot Rod wondering what could be accomplished if Aubotots and Decepticons could work together without a common enemy.

Prior to his arrival on Earth, Soundwave had the questionably useful alt-mode of a space-age lamp-post. This allowed him to get as close to Autobot headquarters as the street leading into [[Iacon]], but thankfully his chest-dwelling minion [[Laserbeak]] could snoop even closer. The loyal Laserbeak overheard of the Autobot mission to seek new energy sources off Cybertron, which prompted the fateful Decepticon interception mission that eventually landed both teams on Earth.

Immediately after the Transformers awakened on Earth in 1984, Soundwave played an essential role in the generation of [[Energon Cubes]] and the formation of plans for a new space cruiser to return the Decepticons to Cybertron. Soundwave was reformatted as a portable casette player, which allowed him to dupe a grabby and none-too-questioning [[Spike Witwicky]] into carrying his shrunken form into the [[Ark]] headquarters.

Later, he used his mind-reading talents to acquire an antimatter formula for the Decepticons from the brain of [[Chip Chase]]. One of Soundwave's most notable misadventures came in in 1985, when, operating a plan conceived by [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], he brainwashed humans with ultrasonic vibrations inside the Decepticon-built night club [[Dancitron]] in [[New York City]], leading to a confrontation with his Autobot Communications Officer counterpart, [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]], beginning a lasting rivalry between the two.

Although Soundwave rarely displayed much emotion, only infrequently exhibiting any traits that could be considers to be in line with his tech spec, which painted him as a cunning, self-serving blackmailer. The Cartoon version of the ship tends to have a more rounded ovoid look to it and is a goldish-yellow color. It has a main computer designated [[Teletraan I]].

Other ''Vanguard''-class ships, pretty much identical to the Ark, are seen taking refugees from Cybertron on a history tape in [[Desertion of the Dinobots]]. It is suspected that the settlers of known Autobot colonies such as [[Junkion (planet)|Junkion]] were among these.

The Ark was launched to search for fuel but ran afoul of two colliding asteroids. Then the Decepticons attacked and boarded it. Out of control, the Ark crashed to Earth, smashing into a volcano in what would eventually become a desert. The exact location is unknown, but closely resembled the American southwest. There it rested until a volcanic erruption four million years later reactivated it and its inhabitants. From that point (1984 AD) on the Ark served as the Autobots' base of operations until the construction of Autobot City sometime before 2005 AD.

The Ark's crew consisted of all the 1984 Autobots. A vehicle resembling [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]]'s alt-mode and called [[Hauler]] is also seen shortly after the Autobots revived on Earth and may represent another crew member. ''(It is speculated by some fans that a number of the 1985 Autobots may have been aboard the Ark as well, as they suffer the effects of [[Cybertronium]] depletion at the exact same time as those that left the planet aboard her. It is possible they were crew members of the ship as well but were not recovered or repaired until later on in the show.)''

In 2006 (2010 in the Japanese version), the Ark and [[Teletraan I]] are destroyed by [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]], much to the chagrin of the [[Mini Vehicle|minibots]] who were assigned to protect it.

== Marvel Comics continuity ==

The comic version of the ship tends to have a more squared-off look to it and is frequently (though not always) shown as being a metalic silver. It has a main computer designated [[Auntie]].

In the comic the Ark was refered to as "the last of the Great Arks" suggesting that, as in the Toon, there had been previous Vanguard-class ships. It is also refered to as the most powerful starship in Cybertron history and control of it was considered a huge tactical advantage.

It was launched to clear a path for the wandering planet [[Cybertron]] through an asteroid feild. When this was done and her reserves depleated the Decepticons attacked and boarded her. Hoping to end the threat of Megatron forever Optimus Prime PURPOSELY crashed the ship into the passing planet Earth. The Ark crashed into [[Mt. Saint Hillary]], a volcano located a small distance outside of what would one day become [[Portland, Oregon]].

After the crash some of the Ark's systems still functioned and when they detected the Decepticon [[Shockwave]] making planetfall the ship revived 5 of her Autobot crew and rebuilt them into the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s. Upon the disapperence of these warriors in their attempt to destroy Shockwave the Ark shut iself down.

Four million years later Mt. St. Hillary errupted jarring the ship back to life. It revived and, unable to distinguish Autobot from Decepticon or to detect organic life (clearly it had suffered additional malfunctions since creating the Dinobots) it revived both sides to transform into the machines it percieved as the planet's dominant lifeforms.

The Ark became the Autobot's main base of operations on Earth until, during [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock's]] first term as Autobot leader, he had the ship repaired and returned to space. The Ark hung around near Earth space for a time, until it was abbandoned in orbit when Primus teleported all nearby Transformers back to Cybertron to face [[Unicron]]. It was recovered by the Dinobots and flown to Cybertron to engage Unicron. Grimlock, being the master of tactics that he is, physically rammed Unicron with the powerfully armed starship which was then abandoned and crashed on Cybertron. It was recovered this time by Shockwave and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] who repaired it and took it to Earth to conquer that planet with it. This plan was foiled by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], Megatron and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] crashing the party. Their battle caused the ship to crash to Earth again, into the Canadian wilderness. This time it was recovered and repaired by Megatron who attempted to take it back to Cybertron and conquere THAT planet with it. This was foiled by [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] and [[Spike Witwicky]] who sacrificed their lives to cause an anti-matter explosion that finally destroyed the great ship.

The Ark's original crew in the Comics consisted of the 1984 Autobots, plus the Dinobots, the recorded mental engrams of a number of the 1985 Autobot cars, and [[Toaster]].

== Beast Wars Continuity ==

The Ark seen in [[Beast Wars]] was based visually on the Ark from the Generation 1 cartoon, however it was officially named "The Ark," retroactively confirming the designation fans had long given it. It is revealed that the Ark was built using "die-cast" construction, a lost art by the Beast Wars era.

The Ark first entered into the Beast Wars cartoon in [[The Agenda, Part 2|The Agenda]] three-parter. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] had originaly come to prehistoric Earth following instructions recorded by [[Megatron (G1)]] on the [[Golden Disk]] from the Voyager Space probe. His original plan was to destroy the deactivated Autobots aboard her and change the outcome of [[The Great War]].

== Dreamwave Comic continuity ==

There is some question as to The Ark's appearence in the Dreamwave continuity, as it is never shown in totality in an actual comic story. Pictures are seen in the final issue of their [[More Than Meets The Eye]] guide and there it is drawn to look mostly like the Cartoon model ( though oddly missing the rear "spoiler"). However the DK Transformers Ultimate Guide, whose main focus was Dreamwave Continuity gives a cutaway diagram of the Ark drawn in the Marvel Comic style instead, only colored yellow-gold as in the Cartoon.

The Ark was destroyed in 2004 while [[Ratchet]] and [[Brawn]] countered a Decepticon attack headed by [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]].

==IDW Comics continuity==

6.2 million [[meta-cycles]] ago the first legendary vessel to be designated as the Ark was lauched from Cybertron. It's mission was to plot a safe pasage from the [[Cybertronian Quadrant]] of the galazy through the [[Benzuli Expanse]]. Twenty-thousand [[astro-cycles]] out it dissapeared with all hands lost. Over the eras following its loss rumor, myth and legend spun up around the ship obscuring the few existing facts surrounding its fate.

In the present day the fate of the first Ark is one of the big mysteries that [[Nightbeat]] likes to dig into in his free time. On [[Gorlam Prime]] he finds wreckage of the correct type and age to come from the ship and far beneath the surface a vast interdimensional portal. Before he can dig into the mystery even more he is overtaken by a strange group of Transformers who capture him and mess with his head, eventually erasing his memory of being there at all.

Back on his ship, with no memory of what has passed, he recieves a message from Optimus Prime, to rendezvous with his ship the [[Ark-32]] on route to Earth.

Before the dawn of time, Order and Chaos existed within an extradimensional entity known as the [[One]]. He created twin astral beings to reign over the cosmos: Primus and Unicron. Their nature differed, as Primus' lifeforce (aka the [[Allspark (dimension)|Allspark]]) was a ''multiversal singularity''; existing across all Transformers realities at once (see note below), whereas Unicron existed in only one dimension at a time but could travel relatively freely between them. Primus was the Lord of Light and Order, and Unicron, the Lord of Darkness and Chaos. Unicron sought to devour everything that exists and become one with [[The Void]] at the end of all things.

In combat, Primus was no match for Unicron. But Primus did manage to trap both his and Unicron's essences inside metallic planetoids. Over time, they learned to shape these prisons. Primus became the mechanical planet of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Knowing that his ancient enemy still lived, Primus created the [[13 original Transformers]] from the material of the newly created planet. To the very first of these 13, named [[Prima]], Primus bestowed the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]], containing his essence. These Transformers would, in time, grow strong in number, knowledge, and power, and be able to defeat Unicron.

==War of the balance==

The first conflict between Primus and Unicron occurred shortly after the creation of the first 13 Transformers. One of the original 13, who would ever afterwards be known as The [[Fallen]], betrayed Primus and became an acolyte of Unicron. Many of the first 13 were destroyed in this great battle before Unicron and Primus were sucked into a [[black hole]] and sealed away in a extra-dimensional limbo.

The two brothers shared a mental link. So long as Primus hid himself in slumber, so did Unicron also sleep. Their war ended, for a time, in stalemate.

Eventually, in one version of Generation 1 continuity [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Jazz]], and [[Bumblebee]] found themselves transported to the center of [[Cybertron_(planet)|Cybertron]]. In a battle with [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]]'s [[Pretender]]s, a laser blast ricocheted off Grimlock and struck the essence of the sleeping Primus, causing a multiverse-shaking Primal Scream that woke Unicron and alerted him to Primus' location.

The battle between Primus and Unicron began anew. Though Unicron would sometimes be defeated, this is always temporary, and there is a whole multiverse of realities to consume. When Unicron is destroyed in one reality, he will respawn in another, ready to eat again. Primus will always be waiting, hoping to incapacitate Unicron and preserve existence.

It has been suggested that both of them are, in fact, necessary for the multiverse to exist in stability.

==The Evolution of the Primus/Unicron Myth ==

The Primus/Unicron backstory has evolved and been rewritten a good number of times since it first originated in the Marvel Comics. The version above is the current iteration, which has slowly solidified across a wide swath of media beginning around the time of [[Armada]]) Before the Primus/Unicron Mythos reached its present form it went through several distinct versions in the Marvel G1 Comics and elsewhere.

===Unicron's Story===
The first time we ever heard the Primus/Unicron backstory it in the UK comic continuity, from Unicron himself. After his destruction during the events of ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'', his head floated through space and crashed on the planet [[Junkion (planet)|Junk]]. There, he enslaved the inhabitants to recreate his old body from their world. When the bount-um... freelance peacekeeping agent [[Death's Head]] challenged him on the astral plane, Unicron shared the story of his origin thusly:

At the dawn of the universe, when Unicron was a primal force of evil, the only one who could stand against him and his [[Dark Armies]] was Primus, Lord of the [[Light Gods]]. (Note the plural.) Primus and his fellow Light Gods stood against Unicron and his Dark Armies. Events then played out roughly as described above. ''(The role of the other Light Gods and Unicron's armies would diminish with each retelling of the story, until the current version where they are alone and have a unique origin. ===The Keeper's Story===
The second time the story was told was in the US book by the [[Keeper]], an ancient mechanoid who guarded Primus's head at the center of Cybertron. This telling mentions that their battle was towards the end of the era of Gods and that Primus and Unicron were the last of their respective pantheons. But Primus had to defeat Unicron before he could take his place with the other gods in the "[[Omniversal Matrix]]".

===Primus' Story===
The third time the story was told was by Primus when he gathered all his children together to prepare for Unicron's coming. Here we learn for the first time that Unicron predated the current universe. Unicron had destroyed the previous universe and then slept peacefully, alone with the void. But he had not been thorough enough and some bits of the "old realms" survived. They reacted and caused The Big Bang. The sentient core of this new universe recognized the threat of Unicron and so created Primus to be his counterpart
and guardian of the new creation.

===DK's Story===
The first modern retelling of their origin in the DK Transformers: Ultimate Guide (which tended to focus on the then current Dreamwave continiuty) added a new twist with "The One" a self-contained being of balanced Order and Chaos. He was curious and so created Unicron to explore the new-born Universe for him. Then he sub-divided Unicron and created Primus out of him. As Primus achieved consciousness he realized Unicron had become corrupted and was now a force for Chaos. Primus thus took on the role of champion of Order and creation to balance things and protect existence from Unicron.

==Marvel Comics continuity==

Unicron is first seen in the comic adaptation of ''The Transformers: The Movie''. The Marvel US comic basically left the adaptation alone as something that might or might not happen but was in the distant future (at the time) and so basically out of continuity. The Marvel UK version of the comic however seized on the Movie era and its characters as something it could focus on without worry of contradicting events in the US stories it reprinted.

Target 2006 was the first of these UK exclusive stories. It is not until the later "Legacy of Unicron" storyline however that we first hear of and see Primus.

[[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] himself took his name from these tracks (as did, presumably, the original [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]), and the scriptures foretold the events which completed the [[Beast Wars]].

After the Beast Wars, Megatron intended to incorporate Primus' essence, the [[Allspark (dimension)|Allspark]], into his own being and become godlike by stealing every [[Spark]] of every Transformer on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Ultimately, this was merely one step of the [[Oracle]]'s plan to reformat Cybertron into a [[technorganic]] paradise. After Megatron and Optimus Primal were plunged into the planet's core, the planet was reborn and the abducted Sparks were returned to new technorganic bodies.

When [[Unicron]] began gathering Transformers from the multiverse, forcing them to fight, and harvesting the [[Spark]]s of the losers, this presented a huge threat to Primus and the [[Allspark (dimension)|Allspark]]. Transformers' Sparks are pieces of Primus' essence, so each devoured soul weakened him.

Primus and [[Alpha Trion]] called back from the Allspark the now-legendary Maximal ship commander and [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s savior, [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]], to rescue the possessed, battling captives from the Pit of Unicron -- and to lead a team of multiversal warriors to put a stop to his soul-stealing scheme before it could cause the Allspark to collapse.

Primus allowed Optimus Primal to choose any Transformer who ever existed -- living or dead -- for his army. This required considerable amounts of Primus' power, so Primal was told to choose sparingly. Primal chose his departed former troops [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] and [[Depth Charge]].

The creation God of the Transformers made his character debut in the Unicron Trilogy during the Energon series. Although Primus was very vague and kept mysterious in the Energon series, his purpose would be further explored in the Cybertron series.

Primus is the living core of Cybertron and the creator of all Transformers, as well as the originator of the precious and ancient fuel, Energon. After the first era, stories of Unicron, Primus, and [[Omega Supreme (Energon)|Omega Supreme]] were regarded as myth and legend, until after the Unicron Battles of 2010. With Cybertron left in a disastrous state, it would require large amounts of Energon to repair it fully. Involved in this task was the Earth Federated Government, operating secretly with the Cybertronians. A child of one of the Earth scientists, [[Kicker Jones]], would be the one to awaken the ancient God, Primus, within Cybertron's core, while fleeing Optimus Prime in fear.
Primus' first act was to empower this child with the gift of finding energon throughout the universe. Primus would also create the sparks of combination which would allow his Autobots to double in strength by having one Autobot link to another, diverting his energy supply into his partner's weapons and processing systems through a system of Powerlinking top to bottom, much like Optimus and Jetfire's combination from Transformers Armada.

Primus would go on to advise Optimus Prime on his actions in order to prepare for the future, including the Terrorcon invasion, the return of Megatron, and the next battle with Unicron. Although vague at times, Primus often offered enough information in order for his children to avoid destruction in battle. Primus was often very weak due to the damage done to the planet's surface, and spent most of his time in a mode of stasis to preserve his energy and keep Cybertron's energy grid online. Primus would continue to advise his creations until Unicron, being controlled by Megatron, would once again menace Cybertron and the other planets in the Planet Q system. Most of the Autobot army were critically wounded, prompting the sleeping Primus to awaken and fuse their armor. Unicron was eventually defeated, but Megatron survived. After Megatron used the hidden super energon pool to upgrade himself into Galvatron, all seemed nearly lost until Galvatron was once again possessed by Unicron. In the final battle, Primus awoke to carry the super energon through space and collide it with Unicron's spark, creating a newborn sun, ending the Energon story. Unfortunately, this would not last, as the sun would soon collapse, leading to the black hole that threatens the universe in the Transformers Cybertron series.

It is unknown if the act of creating the sun in the Energon series completely exhausted Primus, as the fiction connecting the stories remains vague. The club comic seems to portray the idea that Primus continued to exist, but was offlined by Nemesis Prime's attack. Although this is a plausable idea, the structure of Primus and Cybertron, having an Alpha Trion and Vector Sigma is based on Generation One, and was not present in the previous Energon animated series.

During the events of Transformers: Cybertron, the black hole created by Unicron's passing posed unique problems. Primus and Unicron -- representing Order and Chaos, respectively -- together forged a delicate balance in the multiverse. In addition, the black hole was positioned very close to Cybertron itself, making Primus, despite Unicron's apparent demise, the most vulnerable he had ever been. Cybertron was the linchpin, the astral center of the entire multiverse, itself another singularity. Unicron's heralds [[Ramjet (Universe)|Ramjet]] and [[Nemesis Prime (Universe)|Nemesis Prime]] arrived on Cybertron to unleash the [[Dead Matrix]] on Primus' essence. For the first time ever, Unicron, who is normally limited to threatening Primus one reality at a time, would be able to weaken Primus across all timelines -- and the black hole's proximity would end their cosmic feud forever.

One million years ago, Hot Shot was a member of the Autobots, the guardians of [[Cyber City]]. Soon news of a warlike faction called [[Decepticon]]s, led by the powerhungry [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]], reached Cyber City via a dying [[Mini-Con]] Hot Shot found. The Mini-Con handed him a video disc and with his dying breath, demanded Hot Shot take it to Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime played the disc, a distress signal from [[Leader-1]], head of [[Mini-Con Sector|Mini-Con village D10]], who begged the Autobots for help.

The Decepticons themselves soon arrived in Cyber City, armed with Mini-Cons they had captured and reconfigured to bestow incredible power when [[powerlinx]]ed. Outclassed and near total defeat, Optimus Prime called his troops into retreat, and after the majority of Mini-Cons escaped [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to parts unknown, the Autobots lost much of the planet to the Mini-Con-powered Decepticons.

In the present day, both the Autobots and Decepticons received a signal of the Mini-Cons' activation on the planet [[Earth]]. Hot Shot and his colleagues [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]], [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]], and [[Smokescreen (Armada)|Smokescreen]] were led by Optimus Prime to the planet, where they met the Decepticons in battle. But this time, with the help of the estranged Mini-Cons, the Autobots regained the edge they lost against the Decepticons one million years prior. An uneasy alliance was formed, and Hot Shot was partnered with the Mini-Con [[Jolt (Armada)|Jolt]].

After this initial battle on Earth, Megatron is quick to capture the [[Air Defense Mini-Con Team]] and forge them into the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber sword]]. Optimus Prime led Hot Shot and Red Alert against the Decepticons again, despite being at a strategic disadvantage while the Mini-Cons were missing, a point Hot Shot belabored. Thankfully, the Autobot-allied Mini-Cons arrived just in time to powerlinx with Hot Shot and the other Autobots, fend off Megatron, and rescue the Air Defense Mini-Cons from the Decepticon leader's clutches.

Soon, a Mini-Con beacon tower erected in [[Tranquility, Kansas]], drawing all Earth-bound Mini-Cons to it. Hot Shot and the rest of the Autobots again met the Decepticons in battle at the location when the tower's effect was discovered. However, they were too busy fighting to notice the beacon tower blasting off towards the Earth's [[Moon (moon)|moon]]. Hot Shot and Red Alert secreted Optimus Prime into the Decepticon base for the use of their space bridge, so that the Autobot leader could ask for reinforcements from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. {{storylink|Armada_%28Dreamwave_comic%29#Volume_2:_Fortress|Fortress}}

After the Mini-Cons were evacuated from the moon, five did not return home safely and sent a distress signal from northern Alaska. When the [[Adventure Mini-Con Team]] failed to retrieve them, Hot Shot and the other Autobots arrived in full force, though they were kept in check by Cyclonus, who was suffering from a Mini-Con overdose. Though they were successful, Optimus Prime disappeared before their eyes, and when Hot Shot returned to Autobase, he found [[Optimus Prime (Worlds Collide)|an Optimus Prime]], dying, sent from another timeline to warn of [[Unicron]]'s coming. Learning of the "real" Optimus Prime's disappearance, Megatron and his Decepticons stormed Autobase, nearly killing Smokescreen and heavily injuring Hot Shot, Red Alert, and Scavenger.

Optimus Prime was returned to them and insisted on teaming up with the Decepticons to battle the arriving Unicron. Hot Shot excused himself from this alliance, as Smokescreen's critical condition due to the Decepticons' recent attack still weighed heavily in his mind. Prime's demands for vigilence were denied, so Hot Shot later followed him to a special [[uplink platform]] that [[Over-Run (Armada)|Over-Run]] had directed them to. This trip was a first outing for the rookie Autobot [[Ironhide (Energon)|Ironhide]], who fawned over Hot Shot. Hot Shot met this with difficulty. Learning of the continued existence of [[Unicron]], Prime once again returned to the High Council, and again accompanied by Hot Shot. But this time, Cyber City was attacked by [[Cheetor (Armada)|Cheetor]], [[Rhinox (Armada)|Rhinox]], [[Airazor (Armada)|Airazor]], and [[Terrorsaur (Armada)|Terrorsaur]], who were presumed dead during the [[Unicron Battles]], but in fact were transformed into Unicron's [[Beasts of the Apocalypse]]. The Terrorcons outclassed them, however, and left only when their Energon-mining gear was destroyed, but not without taking Kicker. After the Autobots reunited with [[Rad]] and [[Alexis]], Hot Shot and the [[Omnicon]] [[Strongarm (Energon|Strongarm]] were able to pursue the Terrorcons and deliver a special suit to Kicker that his father, [[Dr. Jones]], had made for him. An indeterminate number of years ago on Cybertron, Hot Shot and the Autobot [[Wheeljack_(Armada)|Wheeljack]] were amidst a firey battlefield blaze. Wheeljack was incapacitated, so Hot Shot left him, promising to get help. However, his Autobot comrades would not let him return to help his friend. Instead, Wheeljack was rescued by [[Megatron_(Armada)|Megatron]] and swore vengeance against Hot Shot and the Autobots.

When [[Optimus_Prime_(Armada)|Optimus Prime]] received the [[Mini-Con]] distress signal, Hot Shot was one of two soldiers he brought with him to Earth to investigate. He soon scanned the form of an Earth sports car and partnered with the Mini-Con [[Jolt (Armada) (Armada)|Jolt]]. {{storylink|Base}}

The Autobot was young, inexperienced, and hotheaded, so the great advantage the Star Saber granted him went straight to his ego. With the sword, he was nearly unbeatable on the battlefield until a Decepticon named [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] taught him the hard way that power without skill was useless against an experienced opponent. Hot Shot's naivete was his downfall. The double-agent [[Sideways]] tricked Hot Shot out of the sword, and Hot Shot was beaten nearly to death by his frustrated opponents. {{storylink|Overmatch}}

Wheeljack returned to Hot Shot's life, seeking revenge. The new Autobot recruit [[Side Swipe (Armada)|Side Swipe]] was caught up in Wheeljack's vendetta, so Hot Shot protected Side Swipe as best he could, hoping not to repeat his past mistakes. When Optimus Prime sacrificed himself to save Earth, Hot Shot was put in command. Hot Shot declined to take the Matrix of Leadership, which marked the beginning of a very unassertive and indecisive administration. The Decepticons managed to take over Cybertron. [[Unicron]], the Chaos Bringer, was looming over their planet, but [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] (previously Megatron) would not listen to Optimus Prime's pleas to unite their two factions against him. Hot Shot decided to take matters into his own hands and fought his way through the Decepticon base and countless Decepticon warriors to reach Galvatron and reason with him. Hot Shot often clashed with Kicker and Ironhide, the latter seeing Hot Shot as his idol, and was often paired with [[Inferno (Energon)|Inferno]] as his Powerlink partner. It wasn't until the arrival of Hot Shot's former commander and idol, [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]], that he would question his own allegiences. Not moved by Rodimus' plea to help him to resurrect [[Unicron]], Hot Shot threatened to open fire, only to be struck down by Rodimus. After Rodimus saved Hot Shot's life, he regretted his quick judgement. The relationship between Hot Shot and Rodimus was eventually restored and they become Powerlink partners.

Hot Shot continued to serve under Optimus Prime, surviving many battles on Cybertron and other worlds. Along with several other Autobots, Hot Shot was injured when the reborn Unicron destroyed a fledgling planet in the reformed Q-system. Hot Shot was reformatted into a slick silver body along with his Autobot comrades. This form came in handy when Optimus reassigned Hot Shot and [[Red_Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] to search for [[Velocitron]]'s [[Cyber Planet Key]]. He quickly developed a competitive bond with [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]], the leader of Velocitron. Against Red Alert's warnings, Hot Shot joined the Great Race. Hot Shot pushed himself beyond his means, almost to the point of destruction, but no matter how he tried, he could never defeat Override. The constant racing took a noticeable toll on his body. Was he really doing this to win the Key or just to prove to himself he was still the fastest in the galaxy?

Hot Shot was in big trouble when Optimus arrived on Velocitron and found out what he was up to. But Optimus Prime changed his mind when he realized that winning the race was the only way to win the Key. With the Autobots' full support and [[Coby]]'s help, Hot Shot won the Great Race and the Cyber Planet Key.

Later, he would be severely wounded when [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] used his Death Machine Gun on him, [[Scattorshot]], and Red Alert. The term '''Seeker''' refers to [[Decepticon]] jet troopers who all share the same body style. That is, the Decepticons in ''[[Generation 1]]'' that looked like [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] but in different colors or with minor variations in wing and head shapes, and also the Decepticons in later franchises such as ''[[Armada]]'' where similar "families" of jets appear.

The word "Seeker" is in a strange grey area between official and fan-coined terms. It seems to have originated in extremely obscure official or semi-official writing, but somehow became widely used among fans. In 2002 the term appeared in dialogue from the first issue of [[War Within|''The War Within'']] from [[Dreamwave]], making it technically "official". It has subsequently appeared here and there in other official materials (including the ''[[Armada]]'' storybook, "[[The Awakening]]"), although its frequency of official use is still rather low.

==G1 Seekers==
In G1, there were six Seekers given names and characterization: [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]], [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]], [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]], [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]], and [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]]. The animation models for the Conehead Seekers were designed by [[Floro Dery]], whereas the season one Seekers were done primarily by an unknown designer in Japan.

It has been rumored, but not demonstrated, that the term "Seeker" was used in some other early promotional materials. If so, then the term must have been handed down by Hasbro at some point. It hardly seems possible that the term could have been invented by a lowly copy writer at JCPenney who also just happend to decide to capitalize it. Still, though, if this catalog is the only primary source in which the term appears, it seems strange that it could have inspired the entire fandom to use the term. ==Apocryphal origins==
It is sometimes claimed that "Seeker" is derived from a line of dialogue in the first episode of the G1 cartoon, in which these jets are referred to as "hunter-seekers". This line does not exist.

The term "hunter-seekers" is used in issue 17 of the US comic, [[The Smelting Pool (comic issue)|The Smelting Pool]]. However, the Decepticons it is applied to are shown only in their flight modes, which look nothing like the "Seekers" we are familiar with. In fact, the Conehead Seekers make their first appearance in this same issue, and their Cybertronian flight modes appear very similar to their Earth jet forms (if not completely identical), and completely ''different'' from the craft which are referred to as hunter-seekers. '''Roadbuster''' is a powerful and charismatic fighter, usually armed to the teeth, he's an inspiration to other Autobots in combat and a natural leader on any battlefield. Outside of combat though, his natural ease and surety fail him. He simply doesn't know how to handle life out of combat. He becomes the quietest of the Autobots, grows withdrawn and depressed, and is easily bored. He counters this by spending most of his free time between battles either planning for the next one or "demolishing" any random Decepticons he can find. Some Autobots worry about what will become of the heroic and well-loved Roadbuster they know if the war ever ends. Combat truly is his life and without it, he'd might just fade away...

Roadbuster is a member of the elite [[Wreckers]] unit in, well, every continuity he's ever appeared in.

There's only one thing Autobots and Decepticons both agree on with no war or argument, and it's this: '''Blot''' is the most vile and disgusting Transformer every assembled. He oozes fluids of questionable nature from various joints on his frame, and has a rank odor that usually keeps foes and allies far away from him. Naturally, all this scorn and insult has given the less-than-smart Blot quite the inferority complex. Stuck with a hygiene problem he can't control and a central processor a few bytes too small, Blot is both unable to solve the problems of his own stench and talk back to the insulting comments from his peers. Brutish and slow-witted, Blot is the classic dumb bully to those who don't give him respect...although he's not sharp enough to tell when said respect is faked. He's immensely loyal to those who at very least pretend he's worth something, and [[Hun-Grrr]] in particular is a Decepticon who he shows unwavoring support to.

The other [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]], on the other hand, tolerate Blot enough, but are aprehensive about combining into [[Abominus]] with him, as it takes far too long to remove the stench he's passed onto them after they're finished.

The three Insecticons were sent to Earth via a repaired or rebuilt Space Bridge, where they fell under the command of Megatron, who altered them ''making minor modifications'' in order to allow them to transform into the likenesses of ''Earthside'' insects. Megatron intended to make use of the Space Bridge to revitalise Cybertron, by connecting a vast drilling pipe transdimensionally between Earth and a massive turbine and generator complex constructed on Cybertron, and drilling through Hoover Dam to do it. To this end, he utilised the Insecticons' unique talents- [[Bombshell]] used one of his Cerebro-shells to take the mind of one of the Dam's technical staff, [[Ricky Vasquez]], [[Shrapnel]]'s electrical powers were used to remote-operate the Dam's electrical machinery, and [[Kickback]] kicked a door down.

When the [[Aerialbot]]s on their first mission intervened, both the Insecticons and their three Strike Plane comrades, also having travelled to Earth, fared badly against them. Shrapnel's antennae were twisted, courtesy of Air Raid's torque rifle, and ultimately Ricky Vasquez' free will and love of his daughter were enough to allow him to overcome Bombshell's cerebro-shell entirely, pulling Megatron's trigger and destroying the drill. Battered, Shrapnel and Kickback somewhat unceremoniously carried a still fulminating Megatron off into the distance. Meanwhile, however, Bombshell, having seen an opportunity in his small insect-size, attached himself to the [[Aerialbot]] leader Silverbolt, and returned with him to the [[Ark]] in secret.

Bombshell planted a cerebro-shell in the head of [[Optimus Prime]], current head of the Earthbound Autobots. The shell failed to take full effect for unknown reasons, but ''did'' permit Megatron and Soundwave to tap into and monitor Optimus' thoughts- including the Creation Matrix. Thus, Bombshell was indirectly responsible for Megatron being able to give life to the [[Stunticon]] group- and- possibly but unconfirmedly- also the [[Combaticon]]s.

At what point he left the Ark is unknown, but the trio continued to make sporadic appearances amongst the Decepticon forces until the [[Underbase]] saga. Shrapnel notably used his electrical powers to remote-control the bridge of a cargo ship at one point, but beyond that, the trio seem to have faded into the background. Although not seen to be deactivated or destroyed by Starscream during this conflict, they may have been taken out of action at this point, or possibly during the preceding inter-faction fighting. It is also possible that they simply chose to lie low for a while.

''A further group of Insecticons'- [[Ransack]], [[Barrage]], [[Chop Shop]], and [[Venom]], although not specifically identified as Insecticons at any point in this continuity, were part of the Decepticons' original [[Mayhem Attack Squad]], which was sent to Earth in fragile alliance with the [[Wreckers]] to hunt down and destroy [[Galvatron]] in late 1988-early 1989. Predictably, few of either group survived the encounter with the future Decepticon, and all four of this particular group of Insecticons were apparently slaughtered- either by Galvatron or by the clone of [[Megatron]] with whom he had formed an alliance.''

The three original Insecticons were among the Decepticons recruited- and possibly reactivated- by Megatron on Earth while [[Scorponok]] and [[Optimus Prime]] were attempting to forge an Autobot-Decepticon alliance on [[Cybertron]] (to counter the approaching threat of [[Unicron]]), during the [[Decepticon Civil War]]. Although initially loyal to Megatron, they were bested in combat by [[Starscream]]- then theoretically under [[Shockwave]]'s command- when he infiltrated Megatron's base. Starscream subdued the trio using an electrically charged flyswat known as a [[Rustbug Hoop]]- thereby proving the existence of Cybertronian insect life- and more or less blackmailed them into joining forces with himself and [[Soundwave]] in their plans to reunite both Earthbound Decepticon factions by disposing of Megatron and Shockwave and taking their place.''

''Bombshell's cerebro-shells, now apparently grown somewhat more reliable, were used at least twice during this period- once to drive the [[Aerialbot]] gestalt [[Superion]] into running amok, and later to rewrite the memories of journalist [[Irwin Spoon]], ensuring the continued success of Soundwave and Starscream's smear campaign against the Autobots.''

When the [[Aerialbot]]s on their first mission intervened, both the Insecticons and their three Strike Plane comrades, also having travelled to Earth, fared badly against them. Shrapnel's antennae were twisted, courtesy of Air Raid's torque rifle, and ultimately Ricky Vasquez' free will and love of his daughter were enough to allow him to overcome Bombshell's cerebro-shell entirely, pulling Megatron's trigger and destroying the drill. The Microchange line was one of the main two lines that the toys from the early [[Transformers]] line came from. ''Microchange'' is a subset of the ''[[Microman]]'' lne, which mainly constited of GI Joe- sized figures that were super-posable, and had interchangeable hands. The Microman and Microchange figures were on a 1:1 scale, so the toys were the size of the characters they represented. Many of the Microchange figures came in multiple color schemes, a number of which were used for the Transformer line.

The Microchange line included the following figures:

* MC-01 Micross. The first version was the blue cassette used for [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]]. A red version, used for [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]], came with Cassette Man. Towards the end of the line, a red/blue version was released.
* MC-02 Jaguar. The first version was used for [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]]. A blue version was released at the end of the line, and was used for the e-Hobby figure [[Howlback]]
* MC-03 Condor. The first version was used for [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]]. The blue second version was used for the e-hobby figure [[Garboil]]. [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw's]] deco was created for the Transformers line.

Interentingly, the Japanese release of Soundwave came with Rumble instead of Buzzsaw.

* MC-11 S&W Magnum 44. He had a revolving chamber, and came with either a brown or gold hilt.

* MC-12 Walther P-38. This toy did not include any gun attachments, but had a gun and sword. The toy was released with blue inner arms and legs, and was either black with a brown grip, or grey with a black grip in gun mode. The grey version was used for the Japanese VS-X [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. The toy was released in MC-13 colors as the Japanese main release Megatron.

* MC-13 Walther P-38 U.N.C.L.E. This figure came with all of MC-12's parts, as well as the gun extensions. Only one color scheme, silver with black handle in gun mode with red inner arms and legs, was released. This color shheme was used for all main line releases of the original Megatron. * MC-21 Radicasse Robo came with an AM radio in the form of a fake Microcassette, and an earphone. One could listen directly listen to the radio through the earphone, or put the radio in the main toys cassette deck. After moving the switch above the left speaker "on" and pressing "play", a pair of batteries in the toy's right leg would amplify the signal from the cassette. A knob to the right of the tape door could change the station, and a volume knob and a plug for headphones were located on the toy's left leg. Due to the speaker plug, the transforming microcassettes could not fit in the tape door. They could, however, fit in a compartment in the toy's back. The toy came in either blue or red. The red deco was used for [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]].

During a time immediately prior to the [[Cybertronian Civil Wars]], the planet was broken up into a galla of warring city-states, ruled over (rather pathetically) by the last of the Autobot Overlords. This aging, rusted husk of a mech - enfeebled to the point of needing a near-constant supply of energon injected directly into his body to keep himself functional - had attempted to quell the fighting between two such providences, those of [[Tarn]] and [[Vos]], with the suggestion of settling their disputes through glatiatorial combat, instead of all-out conflict. The talks went sour, however, and as war began brewing between the two city-states once again, the Overlord - accompanied by his trusted bodyguards [[Nightstalker]] and [[Ravage]], along with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a then-neutral [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] - was forced to beat a hasty retreat back to Iacon.

He didn't get far, however, before the Tarn forces cornered him and his party at the ruins of the bridge to Iacon, the forces having demolished it to prevent their quarry from escaping. Jumping the gap, Optimus went on ahead to gather reinforcements, while Megatron and the bodyguards held their ground. who began to quickly realize just how outnumbered they really were. When all hope seemed lost, Nightstalker, in an extreme show of loyalty to his charge, jumped into the middle of the Tarn forces and self-destructed, choosing to sacrifice his own life to destroy the enemy and save the Overlord than abandon the elderly Autobot and save himself. His sacrifice succeeded in defeating the Tarn forces, but in vain; now almost completely out of energon to sustain him, the Overlord pleaded to Megatron, then Ravage to sacrifice some of their own energy to keep him alive, only to be rebuffed by both, believing it was time for a change, and that Megatron represented the planet's best chance for that change. With this betrayal, the rusting scrap pile that was the Overlord perished, his death glossed over by Megatron to those who asked him as the old mech's circuits failing from the stresses of the Tarn attack.

Still, Ratchet tried. Shockwave had returned in full strength and deposed the mighty [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. In his weakened state, Megatron could not hope to defeat Shockwave and reclaim his leadership, but Ratchet approached him with a possible solution. Ratchet knew how Shockwave had fallen 4 million years ago, and struck a deal -- if Ratchet could defeat Shockwave, Megatron would relinguish Decepticon control of the Ark and its wrecked Autobot inhabitants.

Ratchet journeyed to the [[Savage Land]], where the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] had fought Shockwave to a stalemate, leaving all dormant in a tarpit prison.<ref>[[Repeat Performance]], Marvel US#8</ref> He dug up the Dinobots and repaired them. Soon after, he met with Megatron on a snowy ski slope, and announced that he had fulfilled his half of the bargain. Shockwave was defeated. Megatron, of course, went back on his part of the deal and threatened to kill Ratchet. Ratchet declared that he knew all along Megatron would not hold his end of the bargain, admitted that he had not, in fact, defeated Shockwave. The Dinobots sprung up out of the snow surrounding Megatron, and fought him, but did not succeed. Megatron now stood alone, triumphant, mocking Ratchet and his lack of a warrior's edge. With nothing to lose, Ratchet charged Megatron, but he was ineffectual. However, the charge had loosened the ground on which Megatron stood, and the Decepticon leader fell off the cliffside and disappeared.

After the destruction of Optimus Prime, Ratchet was unable to repair him.<ref>[[Funeral for a Friend]], Marvel US#26</ref> Unable to deal with his failure, Ratchet wandered off on his own during Optimus' funeral. Ratchet decided that rather than moping, he should concern himself with the other damaged Autobots under his care, so he headed towards a junkyard to look for spare parts he could use. However, he was abducted in vehicle mode by the [[Mechanic]] and his accomplice [[Juan]], when the two thieves were found by the police. Ratchet revealed himself when they arrived at the Mechanic's hideout, but the Mechanic froze Ratchet with his own surgical weapons and headed for the Ark, intent on finding technology that would ensure he would never be threatened by the police again. When he had unfrozen, Ratchet followed the human back to the Ark, but was defeated by his own surgical tools. But using pieces he took from the junkyard, he repaired [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], and the appearance of the police car frightened the Mechanic away. The Mechanic escaped with Ratchet's tools and the [[Power Booster Rod]].

Optimus Prime was devastated by the loss of Ratchet.<ref>[[Yesterday's Heroes]], Marvel US#60</ref> He assigned the detective [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] to investigate Ratchet's death, who hypothesized that Ratchet could possibly still be alive.<ref>[[Eye of the Storm]], Marvel US#69</ref> There was an initial blast which could have knocked Ratchet into the portal and into Unspace, a netherworld between the warp portal's starting and ending points. A probe was sent to retrieve him, and it succeeded -- but it also brought back Megatron, who was fused with Ratchet as a single, monstrous being. The Ratchet/Megatron creature rampaged through the Ark, wounding several Autobots, but Optimus Prime would not let them harm it.<ref>[[The Price of Life]], Marvel US#70</ref> This put Optimus Prime in an awkward position -- was the life of Ratchet worth the possible loss of his other troops? In an unpopular decision, Optimus Prime ordered [[Fixit (G1)|Fixit]] to separate Megatron and Ratchet, even if it meant saving Megatron. Bonded at a molecular level, neither could survive without the other, even when separated. Separated, they remained in stasis on the Ark until Grimlock and his [[Nucleon]]-revived Dinobots found the Ark abandoned during the Transformers' battle with [[Unicron]].<ref>[[The Void]], Marvel US#74</ref> They filled the entire medical bay chambers with Nucleon, not aware that Megatron lay there in storage. Ratchet's greatest strength, unfortunately, also led to his downfall. 600 000 years later, Ratchet remained with the Prowl-led Autobots after Optimus Prime disappeared in a [[space bridge]] explosion. He repaired [[Skids (G1)|Skids]] after he was damaged in a battle with [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]].<ref>[[The Dark Ages, Part 5]], War Within Volume 2</ref>

Ratchet was among the crew of the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'' when it crashed on [[Earth]], and awoke in 1984 to battle the [[Decepticons]]. After years of fighting, Ratchet and the other Autobots took part in [[Operation Liberation]] in 1998, a joint human/Autobot operation that defeated and captured the Earth-bound Decepticons. However, the ''[[Ark II]]'', which was meant to convey the Autobots, the captured Decepticons, and a number of humans back to Cybertron was sabotaged by General [[Robert Hallo]], sending Ratchet and his comrades to the bottom of the [[Arctic Ocean]]. Years later, Ratchet was recovered by the sinister [[Lazarus]], who had recovered and reprogrammed a number of Transformers for his nefarious ends. However, when [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] broke free of Lazarus' control, he hooked Ratchet and a number of other Autobots up to a device that generated a deadly 'metal virus'. Repaired by his comrades, Ratchet took part in a battle in the [[Canada|Canadian]] Arctic with the Decepticons over possession of a crashed spacecraft containing [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]]. As the Autobots overwhelmed their foes, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] arrived on the planet and gave them an ultimatum; surrender and return to a newly-unified Cybertron, or be destroyed. The Autobots returned to the Ark, where Optimus Prime assigned Ratchet to a [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]]-led team that was to remain on Earth. After Shockwave's lieutenant [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] took Prime and others back to Cybertron, Ratchet and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] remained at the Ark as Jazz, [[Brawn (G1)|Brawn]], and [[Windcharger (G1)|Windcharger]] attempted to locate Scourge and his ship.

When [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and a team of Decepticons arrived on Earth they attacked the Ark's inhabitants, wanting the starship for themselves. In the initial assault, the Autobots managed to take [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]], his cassettes, [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]], and [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] prisoner, but eventually all the Autobots but Ratchet and Brawn were defeated by the mighty [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]. Expecting a supply ship from Cybertron later that day, Ratchet and Brawn slipped past the Ark's beserk defense systems in order to contact the ship and warn them. Unfortunately, Bruticus arrived soon after, and they were forced to destroy the Ark rather than let the Decepticons have access to [[Teletraan-1]]. Before the battle could escalate further, it was interrupted by the arrival of [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]], a [[Seeker]] seemingly powered by supernatural forces. An uneasy truce was formed between the small group of Autobots and Decepticons, and Ratchet begrudgingly put his medic skills to work on Starscream.

In an alternate timeline, a newly-formed [[human]] terrorist organization named [[Cobra]] uncovered the Ark buried in a dormant volcano. Finding two armies of giant transformable robots, they repurposed these aliens for their own use, rebuilding them so they could reconfigure into various Cobra-designed vehicles. Ratchet was reprogrammed and rebuilt into a Cobra HISS tank. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] was able to break free from his reprogramming and awaken the other Transformers and, with the help of the human anti-terrorist task-force [[G.I.Joe]], defeated Megatron and Cobra. An alliance between the Autobots and the United States government was formed.

A malfuction in [[Teletran-3]] sent dozens of Transformers into various points in history, an act which, if unreversed, will result in a perpetual holocaust to be unleashed across [[Earth]]. To retrieve one Transformer and bring him home, a team of Cobra and G.I. Joe agents were sent 15 years into an apocalyptic future where [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his Decepticons rule. The remaining cyborged humans had formed a resistance which had only one lone Autobot warrior who stood between them and utter annihilation. The last Autobot alive, Ratchet had grown bitter and battlehardened after years of guerilla warfare, and demanded the team sent to bring him back to the present day help him complete one more mission. Ratchet, the Joes, and the Cobra agents were successful in freeing a factory nearby was manned by enslaved humans, but Ratchet refused to go home with them and abandon his calling. [[Barbeque]] returned Ratchet home against his wishes, and as Ratchet cursed the stupid little creature, the [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] of the present day shot Ratchet in the back, putting him out of commission.

Later, when [[Serpent O.R.]] takes Optimus Prime prisoner, Ratchet (still in his post-apocalyptic body) is part of [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]]'s rescue team.

Ratchet is part of a detachment of Autobots that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, attempting to foil a Decepticon insurgency.<ref>[[Infiltration]] #0-6</ref> Although a loyal warrior, Ratchet's conscience got the better of him when he intercepted a Decepticon pulsewave ordering the elimination of [[Stoker|a human being]]. Although too late to save that human, he encountered two more - [[Verity Carlo]] and [[Hunter O'Nion]] - who had stumbled upon the Decepticon plot<ref>[[Infiltration, Part 0]]</ref>. Ratchet broke cover to save their lives, subjecting him to the wrath of [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], who threatened disciplinary action.<ref>[[Infiltration, Part 3]]</ref>

Ratchet was seemingly alone in his convinctions, until [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] agreed to help him and the humans investigate an abandoned Decepticon bunker in [[Nebraska]]. [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] and [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] arrived while the humans were reconnoitering and began an aerial bombardment of the bunker, intending to destroy it. Bumblebee and Ratchet engaged the Decepticons in order to buy the humans time to escape the collapsing bunker<ref>[[Infiltration, Part 4]]</ref>.

The Autobots and humans were leaving the Decepticons to finish their work when an enraged [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] burst from the buried ruins of the bunker. Thankfully for them, Megatron was more concerned with the treachery of Blitzwing and Skywarp, allowing Ratchet and the others to escape with their lives.<ref>[[Infiltration, Part 5]]</ref> Unwilling to further risk their safety, Ratchet subsequently returned the humans to Ark-17, where they met the newly-arrived Optimus Prime.<ref>[[Infiltration, Part 6]]</ref>

Years after the Decepticon and Autobot Wars have ended, Ratchet and five other Autobots were sent to [[Ceti Alpha Seven]] to destroy [[Deathsaurus|General Deathsaurus]]' Insecticon clone lab and stop his planned Decepticon uprising. After a team of four (consisting of [[Outback|Fallback]], [[Chromia]], [[Flareup]], and [[Ricochet (Timelines)|Ricochet]]) failed, Ratchet and [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] followed to help. After battling swarms of [[Virulent Clones]] and [[Buzzclaw (Timelines)|Buzzclaw]], they finally met up with Deathsaurus himself. Ironhide stayed to fight the general, and Ratchet separated to find their fallen friends.

Ratchet managed to gather the fallen but was captured by Deathsaurus along with Ironhide. Both were restrained inside the lab, which was set to detonate. Before this happened, Ricochet snuck in and freed them, allowing them to gather the wounded and escape as the clone lab was destroyed.

This is particularly annoying to his law-abiding brother [[Prowl (RID)|Prowl]] and the fussbudget Autobot computer known as [[T-AI]]. Even the more easygoing [[X-Brawn]] can grow tired of his antics. They're no fun anyway, and he can always outrun them. He can outrun just about everybody and everything except his own foolishness.

His greatest folly is his fixation on red cars. Transformer or not, sapient or not, he can't resist chasing after a pretty little thing of the red persuasion, proclaiming loudly and often his libidinous designs. This is usually a bad idea and occasionally a very bad idea, like that one time the red car turned out to be [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]] in drag. Yikes.

The [[Autobot]]s would say that most [[Decepticon]]s have a screw or two loose mentally, but '''Cindersaur''' is missing at least a bucket full. A volitile combination of pyromania and stupidity, it is suspected that, in his function as a Firestorm Trooper, he inhalled a good bit more smoke than his systems could handle and permentally damaged much of his cerebro-circuitry. With one of the lowest intelligence ratings ever recorded for a sentient robot, Cindersaur needs to burn a path of destruction everywhere he goes just to have a chance of finding his way home.

When not burning various things (especially Autobots) to ashes he relaxes by drinking volcanic lava and taking flame baths to ease his aching joints.

He had a long-standing rivalry with [[Big Convoy]], though there was a mutual respect between the two enemies.

On board his ship the [[Dinosaur (BWN)|Dinosaur]], he tracked Big Convoy and his [[Maximal]] recruits to the planet [[Gaia]] where he learned of the [[Angolmois]] capsules that had been launched from the self-destructing [[Nemesis (BWII)|Nemesis]]. Magmatron immediately set a course to track them down, desiring their incredible power. Competing with Big Convoy, Magmatron secured numerous capsules for the Predacons.

However, he did not keep them long. The [[Blentron]]s, a trio of super-powerful and freakish Transformers, stole the capsules from both factions. As it turned out, the Angolmois energy was really the lifeforce of [[Unicron]]. Offering up Galvatron's corpse as a new body, the Blentrons released the Angolmois energy and Unicron was reborn.

Magmatron immediately challenged the Chaos Bringer but was quickly vanquished into a wormhole, leaving his crew of Predacons leaderless and rather ineffective. Magmatron escaped the wormhole toward the end of the Unicron battle, after Unicron had possessed Vector Sigma, and willingly fought side-by-side with Big Convoy and the Maximals to stop their mutual enemy.

After a lengthy battle, Unicron was defeated and driven from Vector Sigma by Big Convoy's Matrix Buster. Putting aside their rivalry, Big Convoy and Magmatron formed an alliance. The Maximals and Predacons then worked side-by-side and hand-in-hand to rebuild their ravaged planet.
