[[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] notes that the second relic is in [[Antarctica]], and [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] volunteers to head there. In the ''[[Harbinger]]'', [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] is about to operate on himself to insert his new [[transformation cog|T-cog]] when the ship's computer picks up the fact that the [[Decepticon]]s are dispatching teams to four locations. At the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot base]], [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] departs through the [[GroundBridge]]. [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] announces he's heading for the Antarctic, and announces that [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] will need backup on his mission—[[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]].

Starscream uses a GroundBridge remote control to head to the Antarctic on a [[hoverscooter]]. He's quickly spotted by Dreadwing and some [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]] who knock him off his hoverscooter. Starscream at first mistakes Dreadwing for Skyquake, and soon has some cuffs slapped on him. The group trudges through the snow to where the relic is located, to find it has already been dug out of the ice and is gone. The Vehicons start searching and find vehicle tracks. They're approached by Optimus, who demands the return of the relic, and the standoff quickly turns into a firefight. After Prime takes out two of the Vehicons and scores a hit on Dreadwing, the Decepticon starts breaking out heavier weapons, and proves to be formidable with a sword. They take a dive off a cliff, following which Optimus brings the ice crashing down, burying Dreadwing. With Starscream's help, Optimus takes care of the remaining two Vehicons, and demands Starscream lead him to the relic.

Optimus and Starscream take a long walk through the ice and snow until they finally reach a human base. Optimus radios home and gets [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] to evacuate the human base so he can safely retrieve the relic. Meanwhile, Dreadwing breaks free of the ice and heads out to find Prime. With the base clear, Optimus and Starscream venture inside to find the relic still frozen in a chunk of ice. They're interrupted by Dreadwing. While Optimus and Dreadwing fight, Starscream sets about liberating the relic, which turns out to be the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]]. Outside, Dreadwing has Optimus on the ropes and is about to strike when Starscream, now wearing the armor, crashes out of the building.

Both Dreadwing and Optimus attack the rogue Decepticon, but he swats them aside, repeatedly. Optimus suggests to Dreadwing that they will need to cooperate to defeat Starscream. While Dreadwing flies around, Optimus slaps a bomb onto Starscream, but the Apex Armor proves invulnerable even to that. Optimus realizes that Starscream still has a vulnerability—his lack of flight. While Optimus keeps Starscream's attention once more, Dreadwing plants explosives on the ground, and just as Starscream works out that the pair are up to something, the bombs detonate. Starscream disappears into a hole blasted in the ice. With no relic left to claim, Dreadwing and Optimus go their separate ways, though Dreadwing swears to terminate Optimus next time.

At the bottom of the ocean below, Starscream walks along, still protected by the Apex Armor.

This might well have been because the big blue lug wouldn't let anyone else get a word in edgewise. Hearing that the AllSpark had been supposedly destroyed, Magnus announced that he intended to take these charges very seriously and investigate. Adopting the vehicle mode suggested by his subordinate, the Autobot Supreme Commander proceeded to drive around downtown [[Detroit]] as a massive military vehicle. Smooth.

However, once he was led to [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|Dinobot Island]], he had to bail out that same subordinate, who had angered the [[Dinobot (Animated)|Dinobots]]. After a distress call from [[Sumdac Systems]] was answered, he turned the tide in a battle against malfunctioning [[police drone]]s. As Optimus Prime acted bravely, loyally, and with sound tactical judgment during that incident, he commended the wayward Academy bot, simultaneously putting Sentinel in his place, much to Sentinel's chagrin. Seeing evidence that the AllSpark indeed still existed scattered about the city, he settled in for the long haul. {{storylink|The Elite Guard}}

Ultra Magnus was unable to come to the press meeting, so Sentinel Prime went in his place. Supreme Commander Magnus wanted a report about the reported Decepticon activity, and about Sentinel "losing [his] head". Optimus covered for Sentinel, stretching the truth in front of him. Upon his return, Magnus received a report from [[Ironhide (Animated)|Ironhide]] that there was an increased amount of Decepticon activity at the galaxy's rim, particularly targeting [[space bridge]]s. Ironhide was unable to report further, as the Decepticon attack destroyed the transmitter. Since Magnus had still not seen any evidence of Decepticon activity on Earth, he reasoned that resources were better dedicated to the defense of Cybertron and its colonies, and thus ordered Optimus and his crew to prepare for departure.

Taking Optimus Prime aside, he expressed concern that should the general population come to believe that Megatron was still alive, it would incite a panic and embolden the Decepticons. Optimus objected, but Magnus felt that easing the concerns of the civilians was their duty to Cybertron. Optimus continued to drag his heels until Magnus was alerted to AllSpark activity on a commuter train. Ordering Sentinel to remain behind to keep an eye on Optimus, he left with Jazz to investigate.

After his hammer proved insufficient to dislodge the AllSpark shard, he was ultimately saved by the insubordinate Optimus and his crew, particularly the intervention of [[Sari Sumdac|the little organic]] with the [[AllSpark Key]]. Optimus insisted that the whole event was a Decepticon trap, just as Sentinel Prime arrived with charges of assaulting a fellow officer. Finally having enough of the insubordinate repairbot, Magnus was about to give Optimus Prime a serious reprimand—right when evidence of Decepticon activity quite literally fell into his lap as [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] was knocked from the sky. As Starscream rebooted, Magnus turned and ordered his subordinates to stay back while he dealt with Starscream. He was rather surprised to find Starscream pointing a blaster in his face when he decided to turn around again, and even more so when the flying traitor blasted him point-blank. Magnus was repaired by Ratchet and Sari while the remainder of the Autobots brought Starscream into custody. Once all was said and done, Magnus apologized for doubting Optimus Prime's claims of Decepticon activity, and again praised Optimus's decision-making skills and scolded Sentinel for insisting that things be done "by the book". He also decided that while he was needed to direct the war effort on Cybertron, the Decepticons on Earth had to be dealt with as well. Therefore, Ultra Magnus and the Elite Guard left for Cybertron, while Optimus Prime's crew remained on Earth to locate the AllSpark shards and capture the Decepticons. Ultra Magnus contacted the Earth Autobots to inform them that a convicted traitor named [[Wasp]] had escaped from prison. In the wake of Megatron's return, Magnus found himself faced with ever-mounting attacks by Decepticons on space bridge outposts all over the galactic rim. As a security measure, he ordered the entire space bridge nexus on Cybertron shut down, much to the consternation of Intel Chief [[Shockwave (Animated)|Longarm Prime]]. He then convened a meeting of the Autobot High Council, at which he announced that the level of coordination in the Decepticon uprisings indicated an inside source, a Decepticon double agent on Cybertron. Longarm Prime was quick to assert that the agent in question was Wasp, as the Decepticon activity had occurred following the fugitive's escape. Magnus assigned Sentinel Prime and Jazz to assemble an Elite Guard unit to track down Wasp, then ordered that they contact Optimus Prime, as the Earth Autobots had been out of touch for [[units of time|decacycles]]. He was a bit nonplussed at Longarm Prime's insistence that all communications with Earth be filtered through Longarm himself first—Longarm assured him this was for security reasons. {{storylink|TransWarped}}

After Magnus said this, [[Shockwave (Animated)|Shockwave]] showed up to finish him off. Ratchet defended his supreme commander by using his magnets to throw things at the Decepticon spy. Unfortunately Ratchet had also thrown the Magnus hammer at Shockwave, so he could now use that to destroy both of them. When suddenly the Magnus hammer activated, electrocuting the spy.

Shockwave was dead and it turned out the one who had activated the hammer was Ultra Magnus.

After an undetermined portion of time, the Magnus hammer was delivered to Optimus Prime who also had a new wingblade jetpack. The Convention Center of the Hyatt Regency Dallas is home to BotCon 2012. It's "one of the city’s most consistent AAA Four Diamond Dallas luxury hotels," full of restaurants and shopping opportunities, and it's smack dab in the middle of downtown Dallas, Texas. This 28-floor hotel is three blocks from the [[John F. Kennedy|JFK]] Memorial and across a parking lot from a giant Playstation Move controller. In the summer, they have AnimeFest there, host to overpriced Pocky, [[Scott McNeil]], and all manner of [[David Willis|unwashed webcartoonists]]. But unlike AnimeFest, BotCon 2012's dealer room probably won't be partially out in the hallways.

The four Pretenders transform into robot mode and then fly into the screen. Jet-mode Metalhawk and Phoenix fly around [[Ginrai]]'s [[trailer]] in battle station mode as the [[Trainbot]]s soar by in the background, all in the sky above the Autobots' mountain headquarters. Ginrai very dramatically dons his [[Godmaster]] armor just before King Poseidon comes bursting through a field of ice and shoots at him, prompting him to leap into the air and merge with his [[Transtector]] to become Super Ginrai. [[Mega]] and [[Giga]] appear against a black field, surrounded by rainbow-colored energy, then combine with their Transtectors into [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]]. Human-form Road King, Lightfoot and Ranger slide across a sparkly green background, and their vehicle-mode Transtectors roll by below them. Each one of the three fades away as his Transtector lines up below him, transitioning into close-ups of their cockpits, with their armored drivers now behind the wheel. The three Godmasters drive off the top of waterfall and transform into robot mode before they hit the ground below. Overlord unleashes his own weapons, but Ginrai leaps over the volley and kicks Overlord in the face. Overlord spins and launches his "Mega Child" jet-shield to pursue Ginrai, but the Autobot whips around and knocks it out of the air before blasting Overlord some more, then finally bringing him down with a rain of punches and kicks. Cab, Shūta and Minerva are then seen driving [[Godbomber]] into action, and the drone launches into the air, linking up with Ginrai to form God Ginrai. A long pan up God Ginrai's body concludes with the Headmaster Juniors jumping from Godbomber's cockpit and being joined by Ginrai. The Autobot and Decepticon insignias fly across the landscape of Cybertron, which becomes the landscape of Earth. The English title appears and is bitten by Grimlock, then morphs into Thrust. Grimlock releases Thrust as the Dinobots transform and fire upon Blitzwing. Blitzwing transforms to tank mode and fires on Omega Supreme, who squashes him beneath his foot. As Scrapper hauls off Blitzwing's remains, Omega fires on Astrotrain, who transforms to shuttle mode above a pit of lava. Down in the lava, the Insecticons are swimming around for no apparent reason (recycled from the English season 2 title sequence). On Cybertron, three [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]]s (including [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]]) attack Bumblebee and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] with a flamethrower (recycled from "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]"). On Earth, a quake rumbles the crashed [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] and knocks Optimus Prime into the repair beam of [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]], who converts him into a truck (recycled from "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]"). Soundwave ejects [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]], who chases after [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] and [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]], blasting the former off of a cliff (recycled from "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]"). A vector grid then appears with both Autobots and Decepticons charging over top of it. Prime and Megatron clash and sink into a pit as the English title explodes onto the screen (recycled from the English season 2 title sequence).

Galvatron transforms to cannon mode and returns fire. Elsewhere, Trypticon is approached by the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]]s, who transform and open fire on the city. Trypticon transforms first to battle station mode, then dinosaur mode. The Protectobots combine into [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] as Trypticon breathes fire in their direction. Metroplex arrives in mobile battle station mode and is attacked by Bruticus. Metroplex transforms to robot mode and returns fire (footage from the Metroplex commercial, also used in the English season 4 intro). In some other desert, [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] and [[Sandstorm (G1)|Standstorm]] show off their three transformations as they battle Blitzwing and Astrotrain. On the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]], Spike and Daniel Witwicky hop along the surface in their [[Exosuit]]s as [[Sixshot]] and the Decepticon Headmasters fly up behind them. In space, Galvatron, [[Scorponok (G1)|Mega Zarak]] and the Decepticon Headmasters open fire on the Trainbots, who combine into [[Raiden]]. The Autobot and Decepticon Headmasters then engage in a massive outer space firefight with lasers flying all over the place. Rodimus Prime is struck by a laser and injured, but is quickly shielded by Chromedome, who then blasts [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]] in the chest and sends him flying. [[Skullcruncher]] then attacks Chromedome with his sword, but is immediately deflected. The Terrorcons then arrive on the scene but are all blown up by the combined efforts of Raiden and the recovered Rodimus Prime. The title is revealed, standing atop a pedestal with spotlights illuminating it, before cutting away to a blue-tinged shot of human-mode [[Metalhawk]] racing across a field of anime speed-lines. The image is soon replaced with one of him in his [[Pretender]] armor, quickly joined by [[Phoenix]], [[Diver (Masterforce)|Diver]] and [[Lander]] in theirs. The four Pretenders transform into robot mode and then fly into the screen. Jet-mode Metalhawk and Phoenix fly around [[Ginrai]]'s [[trailer]] in battle station mode as the [[Trainbot]]s soar by in the background, all in the sky above the Autobots' mountain headquarters. [[Buster (Masterforce)|Buster]] and [[Hydra (Masterforce)|Hydra]] fly by a dark castle in jet mode, and inset boxes appear onscreen revealing their names, ages and nationalities, before they engage Metalhawk and Phoenix in a dogfight. As Shūta and Minerva look on, worried, the two Decepticons merge into [[Darkwings]]. On the ground below, [[Lightfoot]], [[Ranger]] and [[Road King]] come speeding into action, as an inset gives Lightfoot's details to the audience. Lightfoot races into a tunnel, where he is confronted by Pretender-mode [[Dauros]], [[Gilmer]] and [[Blood]], the latter transforming to robot mode and opening fire. As Minerva cheers, Lightfoot transforms into robot mode and fire back, nailing Blood. Elsewhere, humans run in panic as a [[Tentakil (Masterforce)|Tentakil]] rampages through their city before combining with its fellow [[Seacon (Masterforce)|Seacons]] to form [[King Poseidon]]. Ginrai comes rolling onto the scene with the requisite inset box, transforms into robot mode and leaps into the air, avoiding King Poseidon's cannon fire and flattening the combiner with a kick. The projection ends with Ginrai and the four Autobot Pretenders standing on Ginrai's battle station, and the camera pulls back out to show Minerva and Shūta watching. The five Transformers onscreen leap towards the camera, and the two kids fall over as they come ''out'' of the screen and land in front of them. Shūta and Minerva right themselves and cheer.

Ginrai and the [[Headmaster Junior]]s come running towards the audience on a white field ([[Cab]] swings in on a rope), which dissolves to reveal the image of the Autobots' mountain headquarters. The quartet turn stage-left and jump into the air as flames fill the screen, segueing to the title on a background of green spotlights. Ginrai very dramatically dons his [[Godmaster]] armor just before King Poseidon comes bursting through a field of ice and shoots at him, prompting him to leap into the air and merge with his [[Transtector]] to become Super Ginrai. [[Mega]] and [[Giga]] appear against a black field, surrounded by rainbow-colored energy, then combine with their Transtectors into [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]]. Human-form Road King, Lightfoot and Ranger slide across a sparkly green background, and their vehicle-mode Transtectors roll by below them. Each one of the three fades away as his Transtector lines up below him, transitioning into close-ups of their cockpits, with their armored drivers now behind the wheel. The three Godmasters drive off the top of waterfall and transform into robot mode before they hit the ground below. Back at the battle, Ginrai flips King Poseidon and slams him into the tundra, where he explodes dramatically. Ginrai then turns, and the scene changes to a city, where Overlord shields himself against a blast from Ginrai's cannon. Overlord unleashes his own weapons, but Ginrai leaps over the volley and kicks Overlord in the face. Overlord spins and launches his "Mega Child" jet-shield to pursue Ginrai, but the Autobot whips around and knocks it out of the air before blasting Overlord some more, then finally bringing him down with a rain of punches and kicks. Cab, Shūta and Minerva are then seen driving [[Godbomber]] into action, and the drone launches into the air, linking up with Ginrai to form God Ginrai. A long pan up God Ginrai's body concludes with the Headmaster Juniors jumping from Godbomber's cockpit and being joined by Ginrai. They all join hands and run forward, with the images of God Ginrai and their mountain base in the background.

The [[Quintesson]]s disgorge the [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticons]] on the [[Junkion (planet)|planet of Junk]] to recover a lost artifact. When Wreck-Gar learns of their presence, he leads his fellow [[Junkion (species)|Junkions]] in driving off the Sharkticons. Realizing that the Junkions' power and defensive nature will make recovering their canister by force too difficult, the Quintessons arrange for a more passive approach.

The next day, Wreck-Gar and his people awaken to find a massive new projection [[Television|TV]] and satellite dish waiting for them, transmitting the Universal Broadcasting Network. Instilling the programming with hypnotic harmonics, the Quintessons begin broadcasting subliminal xenophobic messages to the Junkions, convincing them that "all other lifeforms are their enemies!"

As word of the Junkions' transfixation spreads, space scouts [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] bring word of it to their respective Autobot and Decepticon camps. [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] instructs the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] to commit further surveillance, but [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] couldn't be any less interested.

On Junk, the second hypnotic signal begins transmitting, influencing the Junkions to adopt the principles of neatness and organization. In effect, the Quintessons are making the Junkions search for their canister, and leave it neatly labeled and categorized somewhere for them to retrieve.

As the Aerialbots begin their reconnaissance run, though, they get caught in a crossfire between the now-xenophobic Junkions and the hiding Quintessons. [[Fireflight (G1)|Fireflight]] uses his photon displacer gun to disrupt the Quintesson ship so that they can't track the Aerialbots anymore. The Autobots manage to regroup and form [[Superion (G1)|Superion]], attacking the Quintesson ship head-on. His attack on the ship's force field overloads their systems, causing a feedback explosion which knocks Superion for a loop, but also destroys the Quintessons' weapons. They beat a hasty retreat while Superion is rescued by Sky Lynx.

Back on Junk, though, another aspect of the Quintessons' system damage becomes evident, as the Junkions are now being fed the message of "caring and sharing". In following that directive, Wreck-Gar realigns the satellite dish to broadcast the Quintessons' subliminal message out into the universe. This puts the entire universe on the edge of interstellar war, and the center of the conflict is the planet Junk, where the majority of hypnotized warmongers felt compelled to travel to.

As the Autobots and Decepticons arrive, [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] deals with the space armada while Rodimus Prime heads down to Junk and battles a hypnotized Galvatron, who was also drawn into the conflict. By freak coincidence, he happens to redirect one of Galvatron's blasts perfectly to catch a passing Quintesson ship, sending the canister it had come to retrieve hurling out through the vacuum of space.

In the meantime, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] have come up with a plan to stop the hypnotic broadcasting. Omega Supreme carries Blaster high into the air, where he broadcasts a high volume musical jamming signal. His mind momentarily cleared, Galvatron wails about how TeeVee bewitched him, and destroys the projection screen and antenna.

Freed of their mind control, the Junkions join the Autobots in driving the Decepticons off of Junk. It's all over, but the Autobots still have no idea what this all was about. In the meantime, the Quintessons lament the loss of their canister.

* US #43 was written as a fill-in issue, an adaptation of a cartoon script from Season 3. As such, the events of ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' are part of the story's intended backstory. When it was published, there was still a chance the comic would take a path similar enough to the movie that the issue would blend right into the continuity. This didn't happen so the issue doesn't work at all with the backstory intended by the writers and its place in the Marvel Comics continuity is left ambiguous.
* This issue marks the only appearance of several characters in the US comic: Ultra Magnus, the Junkions, the Quintessons, and the Sharkticons.
* The story (or more specifically, the UK-only framing sequence) picks up the tale of the future Autobots, last seen in "[[The Legacy of Unicron!]]".
* The story's spelling of "[[Chaar]]" (two As, one R) matches the spelling that would be found years later in internal [[Sunbow Productions]] documents, such as the [[dialogue script]]s. This means that the planet's official spelling has been known since 1988... yet "Charr" still persists in the [[fandom]] to this day. Oh well.

===Changes from the episode===
Quite a few changes were made to the episode for its adaptation. Some were clearly to compress the story into 22 pages; others make less sense.
* The comic begins with the Sharkticon landing and subsequent battle. In the cartoon, this doesn't happen till after the Quintessons have analyzed the Junkions' culture and concluded that they "must attack by more subtle means". ''On a distant planet, [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] is being tortured for information about a mysterious but valuable canister. He finally gives in to the pain, and begins to "squeal"...''

The [[Quintesson]]s disgorge the [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticons]] on the [[Junkion (planet)|planet of Junk]] to recover a lost artifact. When Wreck-Gar learns of their presence, he leads his fellow [[Junkion (species)|Junkions]] in driving off the Sharkticons. Realizing that the Junkions' power and defensive nature will make recovering their canister by force too difficult, the Quintessons arrange for a more passive approach.

The next day, Wreck-Gar and his people awaken to find a massive new projection [[Television|TV]] and satellite dish waiting for them, transmitting the Universal Broadcasting Network. Instilling the programming with hypnotic harmonics, the Quintessons begin broadcasting subliminal xenophobic messages to the Junkions, convincing them that "all other lifeforms are their enemies!"

As word of the Junkions' transfixation spreads, space scouts [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] bring word of it to their respective Autobot and Decepticon camps. [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] instructs the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] to commit further surveillance, but [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] couldn't be any less interested.

On Junk, the second hypnotic signal begins transmitting, influencing the Junkions to adopt the principles of neatness and organization. In effect, the Quintessons are making the Junkions search for their canister, and leave it neatly labeled and categorized somewhere for them to retrieve.

As the Aerialbots begin their reconnaissance run, though, they get caught in a crossfire between the now-xenophobic Junkions and the hiding Quintessons. [[Fireflight (G1)|Fireflight]] uses his photon displacer gun to disrupt the Quintesson ship so that they can't track the Aerialbots anymore. The Autobots manage to regroup and form [[Superion (G1)|Superion]], attacking the Quintesson ship head-on. His attack on the ship's force field overloads their systems, causing a feedback explosion which knocks Superion for a loop, but also destroys the Quintessons' weapons. They beat a hasty retreat while Superion is rescued by Sky Lynx.

Back on Junk, though, another aspect of the Quintessons' system damage becomes evident, as the Junkions are now being fed the message of "caring and sharing". In following that directive, Wreck-Gar realigns the satellite dish to broadcast the Quintessons' subliminal message out into the universe. This puts the entire universe on the edge of interstellar war, and the center of the conflict is the planet Junk, where the majority of hypnotized warmongers felt compelled to travel to.

As the Autobots and Decepticons arrive, [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] deals with the space armada while Rodimus Prime heads down to Junk and battles a hypnotized Galvatron, who was also drawn into the conflict. By freak coincidence, he happens to redirect one of Galvatron's blasts perfectly to catch a passing Quintesson ship, sending the canister it had come to retrieve hurling out through the vacuum of space.

In the meantime, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] have come up with a plan to stop the hypnotic broadcasting. Omega Supreme carries Blaster high into the air, where he broadcasts a high volume musical jamming signal. His mind momentarily cleared, Galvatron wails about how TeeVee bewitched him, and destroys the projection screen and antenna.

Freed of their mind control, the Junkions join the Autobots in driving the Decepticons off of Junk. It's all over, but the Autobots still have no idea what this all was about. In the meantime, the Quintessons lament the loss of their canister.

==Items of note==
* US #43 was written as a fill-in issue, an adaptation of a cartoon script from Season 3. As such, the events of ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' are part of the story's intended backstory. When it was published, there was still a chance the comic would take a path similar enough to the movie that the issue would blend right into the continuity. This didn't happen so the issue doesn't work at all with the backstory intended by the writers and its place in the Marvel Comics continuity is left ambiguous.
* This issue marks the only appearance of several characters in the US comic: Ultra Magnus, the Junkions, the Quintessons, and the Sharkticons.
* The story (or more specifically, the UK-only framing sequence) picks up the tale of the future Autobots, last seen in "[[The Legacy of Unicron!]]".
* The story's spelling of "[[Chaar]]" (two As, one R) matches the spelling that would be found years later in internal [[Sunbow Productions]] documents, such as the [[dialogue script]]s. This means that the planet's official spelling has been known since 1988... yet "Charr" still persists in the [[fandom]] to this day. Oh well.

Joe vs. the Transformers #3}} During G.I. Joe's assault on [[Cobra Island]], Duke ordered his squadron to fire on [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. In a far future, where Decepticons had conquered Earth and turned the world into something that looks like it's out of ''The Terminator'', a one armed, no legged, wheelchair-bound Duke that's missing a hunk of his face lead the [[Dreadnok]]s as part of the human resistance. When a small group of Joes and Cobras arrived from the past in search of time-lost Transformers, Duke was uninterested in their mission and ordered them to join his resistance group. When [[Barbecue]] refused on the grounds that they could simply "undo" this future if they succeeded, Duke called them cowards and told them to get the hell out of his face. {{storylink|G.I. As the Decepticon invasion was successfully prevented, Duke got to keep his limbs and face. Duke was among the founding members of G.I. Joe in [[1939]]. During the team's first meeting, he spotted and opened fire on [[Laserbeak (G1)|a spy]], only to be disarmed when the infiltrator pierced his hand with a laser. Along with [[Flint (G.I. Joe)|Flint]], Duke later led an attack on [[Cobra]]'s base on the [[Fera Islands]]. {{storylink|The Line}} He was in charge of Strike Team One, whose task was to take out the shore defenses so Flint's team could call in the fleet. During their mission, the team accidentally reactivated several [[Autobot]]s buried on the island. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] told Duke about the Autobots' long war with the [[Decepticon]]s, and offered to help the Joes with their own mission. {{storylink|Transformed}}

With the Autobots help, Duke's troops fought their way across the island, eventually making contact with [[Stalker (G.I. Joe)|Stalker]], who Duke thought had died in battle. {{storylink|Trial by Fire (issue)|Trial by Fire}} After thinking up a way to counter [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]]'s earthquakes, he figured that with the Autobots' help, they didn't really need the fleet after all. {{storylink|Wolves}} However, as the Joes approached the [[Terrordrome]], Optimus Prime started regretting getting involved in their war, and told Duke that the Autobots would not aid them any longer. Duke managed to jumpstart Prime's resolve by telling him about the horrors that Cobra had done to their fellow humans, and would keep doing if they weren't stopped. {{storylink|Trenches}} Upon reaching the Terrordrome, Duke bore witness to [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]'s activation and subsequent rampage. In the end, the Autobots were forced to sacrifice themselves to destroy the giant. Cobra survived, however, and Duke continued to fight them for the next fifty years. By [[1988]], he had risen to the rank of commander of G.I. Joe, and listened to [[Flint (G.I.
