:The Darksyde is a spaceship from the Beast Wars portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Darksyde (sometimes Darkside) is the name of the Predacon vessel that Megatron's troops "borrowed" to get to Earth after he stole the Golden Disk. Terrorsaur named her, though Waspinator wanted to call her the "Buzzerbot". Megatron didn't care either way. After it crashed on prehistoric Earth, the Predacon Inferno preferred to call the ship "the Colony", though just about everyone else referred to it as the Predacon base.

Among the ship's features is an onboard computer.

Theft of the Golden Disk
The Darksyde was stationed at a Predacon Transwarp research center, where "Terrorsaur", "Waspinator", and Buzzbomb busted in and shot up the joint to secure it as a getaway ship.
Dawn of Future's Past
The Darksyde was stolen by the rogue Predacon Megatron and fled Cybertorn under Megatron's command. After a clash with the Axalon it entered a Transwarp hole, followed by the Axalon.
stub

Beast Wars cartoon
Exiting Transwarp, the Darksyde was immediately fired upon by the pursuing Maximal science vessel Axalon, though the better armed Predacon ship quickly took the upper hand. Despite the urging of his first officer to destroy the Axalon when the Maximal's shields failed, Megatron arrogantly decided to merely toy with his opponents by slowing down the ship enough for the Axalon to catch up, then unleashing a broadside from the Darksydes side guns, severely damaging the Maximal ship.

However, Megatron would not have long to gloat, as several well-aimed plasma cannon shots from the Axalon strafed the hull of the Darksyde, crippling the ship. Soon afterwards, both ships crash-landed on the planet's surface. Beast Wars (Part 1)

The crashed Darksyde became the Predacon base, their center of operations on Earth. The ship apparently crashed in a volcanically-active area, as the impact created lava-filled concentric cracks around it, and an upwelling of lava in the main control center. While it's arguably dangerous to have a control room where you can't walk across the floor without melting, it does look seriously badass.

The base contained a main control and monitoring center with a holographic projector; given the absence of a proper floor, hover platforms were commonly used by the Predacons to get around much of the base. The base also included CR pits capable of restoring severely damaged Predacons (or Maximals) to full functionality; a private suite used by Megatron, including a CR tank/hot tub; a lab area used by Tarantulas; holding cages suspended over the lava pits (keyed to Megatron's voice command); and a secure storage area which held the Predacons' remaining Transwarp cells. The grounds surrounding the base were laced with automatic weapons, programmed to scan for and target Maximal energy signatures.

In addition to day-to-day Predacon operations, the base was the scene of several battles. The first involved a messy and destructive hunt for Cheetor, who accidentally teleported into the control room. Equal Measures Another resulted from Megatron's attempt to reprogram Rhinox into a Predacon; the rogue Maximal very nearly brought Megatron down from power by taking out first his troops, then his kneecaps. Rhinox's comrades stormed the base to recover him, however. Dark Designs (episode) The Maximals forced their way into the base a third time when Optimus Primal was infected with a rage-inducing virus; the berserk Maximal leader stormed through the Predacon base, taking out troops one after the next, until his comrades arrived to heal and retrieve him. Gorilla Warfare

The Maximals also managed to infiltrate the base more covertly on numerous occasions. When the Predacons managed to hack into Maximal communications, Rattrap went undercover as a turncoat. He escaped from one of the suspended prison cages and searched through the Predacon base till he found a Maximal codebreaker chip installed in one of its communication panels. Double Jeopardy Rattrap entered on another occasion to install a spy camera and cable; when the Predacons discovered it, they faked their own destruction, drawing the Maximals into the abandoned base to salvage space drive parts. Optimus Primal noted that even abandoned, a Predacon ship was still a dangerous place. Victory (episode) Using Rattrap and Airazor as a distraction, Tigatron slipped into the base to search for information about the latest alien site to have revealed itself (though this turned out to have been exactly what Megatron wanted all along.) Before the Storm

At least once, the base's lava pits proved to be a distinct liability. When the planet was hit by a quantum surge in the wake of the Planet Buster's destruction, Terrorsaur and Scorponok lost control of their hover platforms, collided, and tumbled off. The two sank into the lava and were never seen again. Aftermath

Tarantulas proved able to cut power to the base at will; he did so once with a magna pulse, Spider's Game and again through unknown means when Ravage and the Maximals arrived to take Megatron prisoner. The base took considerable damage while under assault from Ravage's Transwarp cruiser. The Agenda (Part 1)

After the destruction of the Maximal base, Megatron's troops stole the Sentinel shield module from the Maximals, and installed it in the Predacon base, providing it with a defensive energy shield. Changing of the Guard

The battered vessel was finally destroyed by the Vok emissary Tigerhawk. Other Victories
* Dinobot - Second-in-command.
* Scorponok - Engineer, later second-in-command after Dinobot turned on Megatron.
: A small toy of the Darksyde was included with the Beast Wars Tenth Anniversary version of Megatron. The packaging calls it the <s>Preadcon</s> Predacon ship, possibly due to trademark issues. (A typo on the packaging was corrected by a sticker.)

Notes
* The name of the Predacon ship comes from fandom interpretation of Terrorsaur's line from the Beast Wars episode "Equal Measures," which welcomes Cheetor "to the dark side," upon Cheetor's arrival within the Predacon ship. Since there wasn't an established name for the ship at the time, some fans thought that Terrorsaur may have been speaking more than metaphorically. The name was used in the Transformers Beast Wars: Transmetals video game, making the name official, and again years later in the booklet inside Kid Rhino's Beast Wars season 1 DVD set. In the 2006 exclusive toy box set and accompanying story, "Darksyde" was spelled with a "y" to avoid possible trademark problems. Despite the glee with which the name is joyfully batted around in the fandom, the show itself never specifically called it anything other than "the Predacon base" or "Predacon ship".
*Seeing as Terrorsaur and Scorponok fell into lava, Dinobot died for the cause, Tarantulas exploded, and Megatron fell into the organic core, Waspinator is pretty much the only crew member of the Darksyde to survive all shows (Sorta ironic for someone who gets butchered nearly all the time).

The Old Slave Trails are constructions on Cybertron from a nebulous past. It seems a safe bet that they were built when the planet was under Quintesson rule, but that is not certain. The trails run through Cybertron's northern hemisphere, possibly exclusively under Iacon.

Fiction
Dreamwave Generation One comics
For most of known Cybertron history, the trails were thought to no longer exist. When Iacon was rebuilt after the Great Shutdown, the trails were rediscovered. Half of them were converted into Iacon's new subway system, while the other part gained a new use as sewer system. After a number of centuries, Shockwave's controversial rule generated the formation of resistance groups, whose members used the sewer tunnels to travel Iacon and the Wastelands safe from detection. The only downside was that the pollution in the sewers had raised the radioactive levels there to the point that prolonged presence could cause stasis lock, forcing any traveller to move quickly.

3000 years after the rediscovery of the Old Slave Trails, the rebellion freed the Ark crew from imprisonment in Iacon. Most of them were brought to a safer place with the monorail transport system, but Sandstorm took Optimus Prime through the sewer tunnels to reach the main hideout in the Wastelands. Runabout and Runamuck were waiting for them though. The former killed Sandstorm, but was brutally prevented from killing Optimus by Gnaw. Cold War (issue) The rest of Gnaw's resistance cell soon found them, as well as Runamuck, and took them to their hideout.

Meanwhile, the Ark group arrived at a remote part of Iacon, where Prowl and Ironhide were removed from the train by Smokescreen. Smokescreen led them to and through another part of the sewer tunnels to the same hideout as Optimus had been taken to. Passive Aggression
Curl (カール Kāru) is an inhabitant of Daros, one of many who suffered under the opulence of the ruling class. He has curly hair!

Fiction
The Headmasters cartoon
:Voice actor: Shingo Hiromori (Japanese)
Curl was one of many poor Daros citizens forced into labor at a penal colony in the northern hemisphere for trying to overthrow the powerful elite. When the Autobots arrived in response to a SOS signal, Curl and two other prisoners were the only ones still alive after the Decepticons massacred the prisoners. Chromedome asked Curl if he was the one who sent the SOS signal; Curl responded that it was actually a Beastformer. The Trainbots then transported the three to Battleship Maximus, where they were greeted by Fortress and brought to a room to rest.

Daniel and Wheelie, eager to see the new visitors, accidentally woke up the prisoners. Curl nevertheless greeted the two, and brought in Daniel with the promise to be friends. However, he had sinister intentions and held Daniel hostage with a knife, threatening to cut the boy if Fortress did not turn over the ship to the prisoners. Curl had planned to use Battleship Maximus to kill the ruling class of Daros. Fortress brought some time by claiming that the Headmasters who rescued the prisoners were the pilots of the ship and requested that Curl wait for them to return. Frustrated, Curl told Fortress to call them back. Daniel was able to escape by biting on Curl's arm and using his Challenge Blaster toy to blind the prisoners, allowing Fortress the opportunity to use the ship's defense systems to paralyze the prisoners.

Once unfrozen, Curl explained his motivations: to overthrow the ruling class that monopolized all of the wealth that the resources of the southern hemisphere afforded them. Their greed left most of the people of Daros in poverty, and many tried to oppose this, only to be thrown into the penal colony, where they did hard labor. Moved by his story, Fortress agreed to help Curl.

Unsurprisingly, the ruling class were aided by the Decepticons, who took much of the planet's energy in exchange. Curl pleaded with Fortress to allow the prisoners to fight, but Fortress refused and had the Trainbots transport them off Battleship Maximus.

Once the Decepticons were pushed off the planet the Daros elite tried to bribe the Autobots with energy in exchange for protection, but were very sternly refused. As far as they were concerned, the reign of the ruling class had ended, with Curl as the new leader of Daros. Find MegaZarak's Weak Spot!!
Cybertron comic
Some time before the appearance of the Unicron Singularity, this lady met Downshift and fell in love with him. The two joined together under the Covenant of Primus and were looking forward to spending their honeymoon in the Crystal Cities when orders came to have Cybertron evacuated. She and Downshift became separated and so ended up on Earth with no clue where to look for their significant other.

Eventually, they found each other through luck and persistence, and were given orders by Optimus Prime to begin their adaption to life on Earth in a small town south of Providence, Rhode Island. This was such a good experience for her and Downshift that after the threat of the Unicron Singularity had ended, they chose to stay on Earth as envoys of Cybertron. Cyber Key Codes
