A '''spark''' is a Transformer's lifeforce, or soul.

The spark is a physical entity which is safeguarded inside a Transformer body. If something harms the spark beyond repair, it is "extinguished," and returns to the [[Allspark (dimension)|Allspark]]. The Transformer is then considered dead. A Transformer is able to survive an enormous amount of physical damage -- as long as their spark is intact, it is possible to repair or rebuild their body and restore the spark to it.

==Establishment in fiction==
[[Image:Spark.gif|thumb|This gives me a headache if I look at it too long.]]

The concept of the spark as currently understood was introduced to the Transformers mythos in the ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' episode, "[[The Spark]]". In this episode, little is explained except that each spark is unique, and that every "Cybertron" (here meaning, essentially, "Cybertronian") has one.

The later episode, "[[Possession]]", dealt with the idea of sparks, but the spark in question -- that of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] -- is established as being aberrant, and thus the properties it displays are not neccessarily characteristic of sparks in general. However, "Possession" was the first time it was claimed that characters from the G1 series also had sparks, rather than sparks existing in Beasties only. Sparks remained prominent throughout ''Beast Wars'', and events in seasons two and three further established the [[retcon]] that G1 Transformers all possessed sparks.

In ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]'' sparks became central to the story, as [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] had abducted the sparks from every Transformer on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Megatron's own spark displayed unusual behaviors in this series, and again, these behaviors can probably not be assumed to apply to all sparks. Still, ''Beast Machines'' contributed more information about sparks to the [[canon]] than any other series.

The [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|''Generation 1'' cartoon]] occasionally referenced a device called a [[laser core]] which seemingly has a similar function to a spark. The tech spec bio for the [[Beast Rider]], [[Mechatron]], says that he is "outfitted with an upgraded spark-capture claw that can tear out the entire laser core of any Transformer defender." This implies, as some fans had speculated, that the laser core may be some sort of housing for the spark.

Since the introduction of the spark in ''Beast Wars'', sparks have become an integral part of many Transformers fictions. Sparks have been featured in new [[Generation 1]]-based series, and in later alternate-dimension tales such as the [[Unicron Trilogy]]'s ''[[Armada]]'' and ''[[Energon (franchise)|Energon]]''.

Although the term spark does appear off-handedly in some [[Generation 1 (Marvel Comics)|''Generation 1'' comic]] stories (a "spark of life" and a "life spark"), these were clearly simply metaphorical statements. They can be retroactively seen to, perhaps, refer to the contemporary concept of a Transformers' spark, but did not on their own establish anything of the sort.

==Properties of sparks==
[[Image:spark colors.jpg|thumb|left|The sparks of the reformatted Maximals took on unusual colors. Before their final battle with Megatron, the sparks became visible within their bodies. They also lift and separate.]]

As seen in the image at the top of this article, sparks normally appear as blue balls of energy with a pulsating center composed of smaller, blue spheres. The center spheres are engulfed in a reddish glow. An ever-changing pattern of "electricity"-like lines travel around the surface and through the interior. However, in ''Beast Machines'', the sparks of the Maximal heroes who had been [[reformatting|reformatted]] took on different colors (for example, [[Blackarachnia]]'s was green). This was first visible in "[[Revelations Part I: Discovery]]". At the end of that series, after being infused with extra power from the Matrix (cf. Allspark), their sparks became visible, as if part of their torsos were translucent.

[[Beast Era]] Transformers seem to have permanent "spark chambers" within their chassis where the spark can be seen simply by opening the chamber. Older Transformers within the same G1/Beast continuity, such as those who lived before the [[Great Upgrade]], did not seem to have this feature. The G1 ''[[More Than Meets The Eye]]'' guidebook from [[Dreamwave]] states that a spark is normally "suffused" throughout a Transformer's body rather than residing in any particular place. It may be that this is also true after the Great Upgrade, and that the spark chamber is merely a protected location for the spark to coalesce when needed.

In the ''Beast Wars'' cartoon, there were two cases of Beast Era Transformers temporarily housing the sparks of G1 Era Transformers in their own bodies while still housing their own sparks. In both cases, this resulted in the Beastie undergoing a mutation of sorts into a more powerful body: [[Optimus Primal]], upon taking the spark of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], grew into his Optimal Optimus body; and Megatron, upon taking the spark of the [[Megatron (G1)|original Megatron]] obtained his dragon form. However, based on the information from the series, there is no basis for determining whether this phenomenon is a result of a single body housing two sparks, a Beast Era body housing a G1 Era spark, a body being implanted with an especially "powerful" spark (like those of Optimus Prime and Megatron could conceivably be), or some combination of these.

Although Transformer memories and personalities are generally treated as if they are stored within the Transformers' computer brains, repeated canonical instances have established that a spark will (or can) hold all of an individual's memories, along with their "essence" or personality. Further, there is some evidence that sparks may even retain records of the Transformer's previous bodies (such as when Optimal Optimus, whose body originated with a blank [[protoform]], regressed into a copy of the gorilla body Primal wore at the beginning of the Beast Wars). A Transformer's behavior can be modified through programming of their mechanical body (referred to as a [[shell program]]), but this is always a struggle between the programming and the "true" nature of the spark within. It may be that over long periods of time, a spark may begin to internalize some aspects of a programmed personality.

Many Transformers, such as [[Sky Lynx]], [[Omega Supreme (G1)|G1 Omega Supreme]], and the [[Duocon]]s, simultaneously inhabit multiple mechanical bodies or components. The character bio for [[Magmatron]] mentions this ability of his, and categorizes his spark as a "mitotic spark" which is able to split, sharing itself between his three beast modes. It is unknown whether other multiply-bodied Transformers also posses mitotic sparks, or if they are examples of something more mundane such as simple remote control.

Some Transformers are able to sense and communicate with the sparks of other Transformers through a process that appears analogous to telepathy. According to dialog from "[[Revelations Part III: Apocalypse]]", this ability is related to the sparks' mutual connection to the Allspark. Disembodied sparks are sometimes able to communicate through this same method. (See [[#Disembodied sparks|below]].)

The radiation emitted by [[energon]] crystals is harmful to sparks, even when protected within a Transformer's body. Certain body types are better able to shield the spark from energon radiation. For example, the flesh-like beast modes adopted by the crews of the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and ''[[Darkside]]'' provided essentially 100% protection, allowing operations -- while in beast mode -- in environments that were practically forests of energon crystal. Direct contact between crystalline energon and a spark is highly dangerous.

In the ''Beast Machines'' episode "[[Spark of Darkness]]", [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]] describes Megatron's disembodied spark as a ball of electrons. He goes on to say that normal sparks contain a large number of positrons. Based on his dialogue, it is possible, but not certain, that sparks are composed ''entirely'' of positrons. Rattrap also indicates, in "Revelations Part I", that when a spark is extinguished, carbon scoring is typically left on or within the Transformer's chassis.

[[Image:Pushing on a spark.jpg|right|thumb|Nightscream's hands don't seem to touch the spark itself while pushing on it.]]

Regardless of their composition, sparks are not insubstantial energy, but have some sort of physical aspect. This is clearly demonstrated in, again, "Revelations Part III", when [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]] is seen attempting to push Blackarachnia's spark back into her body. His hands press against some sort of surface (or perhaps merely a force field, in which case the spark could be entirely energy) which is above the visible surface of her spark. Later in the series, in "Spark of Darkness", Megatron's spark is also shown to have physicality. Further back, in ''Beast Wars'', the spark of Rampage/Protoform X would respond to being "crushed" by Megatron by flattening slightly inside its energon-lined carrying case. And even the spark of G1 Megatron was "grabbed" physically by a tentacle-like appendage of BW Megatron's. While some of these examples may be special cases as they deal with sparks that have unusual properties, those properties are unique to each spark. The weight of evidence, then, is in favor of sparks being at least partially substantial.

In the [[Energon (television series)|''Energon'' cartoon]], sparks were shown to have the ability to be somehow augmented by Primus to become a [[Combination Spark]]. This allowed two Autobots to [[powerlink]] together into a new form, allowing one Autobot to take command of the fused body while the "pants" remained dormant. Without the Combination Spark, a powerlink between two normal Transformers cannot be completed. It is not stated whether the combiner teams [[Constructicon Maximus]] and [[Bruticus Maximus]] also possessed Combination Sparks or if their ability to combine has some other origin.

==Disembodied sparks==
Sparks are able to exist outside of a Transformer body, but the parameters of this phenomenon are largely unclear. In is unknown for how long a spark can survive under such conditions, although they are vulnerable to damage in this state. It is also unknown whether a disembodied spark is "conscious" and aware of its surroundings, and whether it is capable of moving under its own power. (There are unusual cases, as described under [[#Aberrant sparks|Aberrant sparks]].)

It is hard to imagine how a spark could be aware of its surroundings when stripped of all sensory mechanisms. Indeed, in "Revelations Part III: Apocalypse", while Blackarachnia's spark was outside of her body, her consciousness did not remain in the "real world". Instead, she experienced a conversation with [[Optimus Primal]] -- not a hallucination -- which took place in an abstract "higher plane of existence", perhaps within the Allspark itself.

Most of the disembodied sparks in ''Beast Machines'' drift slowly and largely directionlessly. In many other cases, sparks seem to move with some sort of intent. However, aside from attempts of sparks to re-enter their "home" body, these are conceivably all "special cases" and may not be generalizable. In one example, the sparks of [[Tigatron]] and [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] are seen following [[Tigerhawk]] to Earth in "[[Other Victories]]". While their sparks appear normal when this occurs, they later merge into a single white spark and then inhabit the (then-empty) Tigerhawk body. This is not normal spark behavior, and may be related to the time they spent seemingly in stasis with the [[Vok]]. Also, in "Revalations Part III", when Blackarachnia becomes panicked during her telepathic conversation with Primal, her spark begins moving erratically and has to be chased down by Nightscream. However, it is unclear whether the spark was moving ''with intent'' -- especially since Blackarachnia's consciousness was portrayed as still being on a higher plane -- or simply zigging and zagging randomly. And, again, a reformatted spark may be different than a normal spark anyway.

==Aberrant sparks==
Some sparks have exhibited properties or behaviors that do not seem to be generalizable to other sparks.

===Starscream===
As established in the ''Beast Wars'' episodes "[[Possession]]" and "[[Bad Spark]]", Starscream possesses a "mutant" immortal spark. Even when his body is destroyed, his spark is not extinguished. This explanation retcons the appearance of Starscream's ghost in some season three episodes from the G1 cartoon -- the "ghost" was in fact Starscream's disembodied spark.

Starscream's spark was able to move under its own power, and seemingly travelled not just across space from Cybertron to [[Earth]], but backwards through time from 2006 to human prehistory. It may be that the time travel was accomplished by "falling" through the [[transwarp]] hole left by the ''Axalon'' and ''Darkside'' when they arrived on prehistoric Earth -- [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]]'s ship arrived there by that method later in the series -- but this is uncertain.

Additionally, Starscream's spark was able to take possession of other Transformers simply by entering their bodies. While in another body, Starscream's will completely dominates that of his host. When Starscream possessed [[Waspinator]], Waspinator's voice even changed to sound like Starscream's, and the [[Faction symbols|Predacon insignias]] on his body changed to Decepticon insignias. Starscream either did not have, or did not seem to know that he had, this poessession ability until he died during the events of ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''.

===Rampage / Protoform X===
The creation of Protoform X was an experiment conducted by the [[Maximal Elder|Maximal Elders]] to attempt to replicate Starscream's indestructible spark. Although they succeeded in creating such a spark, dubbed [[Rampage (BW)|Protoform X]] (and later taking on the name [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]]), it was, unfortunately, psychotic.

Like Starscream's spark, Rampage's could not be extinguished through simple destruction of his body. In fact, Rampage's body -- at least, the body he wore during the Beast Wars -- had uncannily rapid self-repair functions. In one instance, Depth Charge pierced Rampage's body from front to back with a spear, and the damage disappeared in a matter of seconds once the spear was removed.

Megatron devised a way to split Rampage's spark by carving it with a blade of [[energon crystal]]. Amazingly, this did not destroy the spark, nor did it seem to weaken Rampage appreciably. Megatron kept part of the spark in a case lined with energon crystals. By squeezing the case, the crystals would pinch the spark fragment, and Megatron used this to torture Rampage into obediance.

Megatron later placed this piece of Rampage's spark inside his [[Transmetal|Transmetal II]] clone of [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]], who is usually referred to as [[Dinobot II (BW)|Dinobot II]]. Dinobot II appeared to have a personality wholly independant of Rampage's, although he was similarly brutal. Dinobot II's personality, however, may have been imposed upon him through programming. Dinobot II could torture Rampage by compressing the spark fragment that he held, much as Megatron had previously done. This did not seem to affect Dinobot himself.

Rampage's spark turned out to not be completely indestructible -- seemingly as an extension of Megatron's splitting of the spark with an energon blade, Depth Charge eventually destroyed Rampage by piercing his spark with "pure" crystalline energon. Normally sparks "extinguish" somewhat peacefully, but when Rampage's was pierced, a powerful explosion destroyed the bodies of Rampage and Depth Charge. It may be that Starscream's spark would be similarly vulnerable to being cut / destroyed by energon, but this is mere extrapolation.

When Rampage's spark was destroyed, the fragment within Dinobot II did not explode. It may have simply disappeared, or it may have remained there. However, through a process which is not clearly established, Dinobot II at that instant "reverted" to the personality of the original Dinobot, and even had a vision of Dinobot's last moments. It may be that this reversion was related to events scripted for an episode which was never produced, titled "[[Dark Glass]]".

Rampage's spark never displayed the ability to move under its own power.

===Megatron===
In season two of ''Beast Machines'', Megatron's spark does a number of unusual things.

As part of the battle between he and [[Optimus Primal]] at the end of season one, during which the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] and the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]] were pitted against each other and Megatron plunged into a pool of material from [[Cybertron's organic core]], Megatron somehow was able to "split" his Beast body into two separate bodies -- one entirely robotic, and the other entirely "biological". (Whether the Beast bodies of the ''Beast Wars'' characters had any true biological components, or whether they were faux-flesh composed of nanites is not consistently established in either series.) Contrary to his intentions, Megatron's spark ended up trapped within the biological body, which came to be known as [[Noble/Savage]].

It is unclear how a biological body was able to sustain a Transformers' spark. Indeed, even the Maximals were surprised when they realized what had happened. It could be argued, based on statements made by [[Vector Sigma|the Oracle]] in the first episode ("[[The Reformatting]]") that all lifeforms in the universe have sparks, not just Transformers. However, this is never alluded to by any other canonical source, so most fans have seemingly dismissed it.

As shown in "[[Prometheus Unbound]]", using the biological Noble/Savage body, Megatron was unable to mentally control devices in his citadel or interface with his [[control harness]]. Upon using a [[spark extractor]] on himself, however, his spark was freed and immediately flew to the harness, which it activated before "flowing" up to the ceiling through the harness' cables. His spark then took over, as its new body, an enormous floating replica of his own head, where it stayed for most of season two. The Noble/Savage body appeared to be dead, but recovered. After Megatron's spark had left it, it seemed to be a perfectly "normal" animal which had the ability to change between a wolf-like form and a dragon form, possessing little if any sentience.

As soon as his spark had been removed from Noble, it took on an unusual appearance, having turned entirely red or orange in color. (Perhaps a change similar to that of the reformatted Maximals.) Megatron's disembodied spark also seemed to be able to speak even though it had no physical body. It may be that this speech was telepathic, but, the spark itself pulsated in perfect rhythm with the words.

While inhabiting the [[Grand Mal]], Megatron's spark was sometimes seen floating freely, and under its own power, through the interior of the Grand Mal, particularly in a large space that appeared to serve as his control room. (It was here that he addressed his [[Vehicon general]]s, usually manifesting as a holographic projection of one kind or another.)

[[Image:Spark consumption.jpg|thumb|Megatron's spark ensnares and consumes other sparks from his collection.]]
[[Image:Giant megatron spark.jpg|thumb|Now enormous, Megatron's spark looms over Cybertron in the vicinity of his [[Big Floating Head]].]]

Eventually, in the three-part "[[Sparkwar]]" story, Megatron's spark began consuming / fusing with the captured sparks of Cybertron's inhabitants. He claimed to have learned how to accomplish this after communicating with the Oracle.

To consume other sparks, Megatron's spark extended tendrils which ensnared victim sparks. These tendrils also had the ability extract sparks from occupied shells much like a [[spark extractor]]. As each spark was absorbed, Megatron's spark grew larger in size.

Megatron was temporarily beaten when [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]] attacked him with a sonic scream. The scream, according to Primal, depolarized Megatron's spark. This caused him to temporarily lose control and allowed the Maximals to escape. In the following episode, "[[Spark of Darkness]]", Megatron's spark exhibited additional strange behaviors which may or may not have been dependant on its depolarized state:

*It travelled very quickly and with great agility.
*It was able to physically "crash" into things to push them around. In particular, it repeatedly knocked the Maximals out of its way.
*It seemed to be able to cause large explosions simply by flying through other objects.
*It could inhabit and leave any sparkless body at will. This ability evidently differs from Starscream's, in that Starscream never animated a vacant body, and Megatron never dominated an occupied one. These re-animated bodies were able to remain functional even after suffering extreme physical damage.
*His spark was not detectable by his Vehicon generals' sensors, and Primal was unable to "sense" his spark through the Oracle.
*The spark did not speak at all while depolarized, neither when in a body nor when floating freely.

Rattrap was able to capture Megatron using a hand-held [[spark extractor]], and using a control panel on the extractor, repolarized and thus stabilized his spark. Afterwards, Megatron's spark remained red and just as fast and agile as before, but became detectable by his generals' scanners again, and became "trapped" in the next body it inhabited (that of a [[diagnostic drone]]). Upon entering this body, Megatron declared, "I live!" This was the first time he had spoken since being hit by the sonic scream. This implies that something about his prior "destabilized" state may have prevented him from fully utilizing the bodies he had visited.

==Establishment in fiction==

==Properties of sparks==

==Disembodied sparks==

==Aberrant sparks==
Some sparks have exhibited properties or behaviors that do not seem to be generalizable to other sparks.

===Starscream===

===Rampage / Protoform X===

===Megatron===

While inhabiting the [[Big Floating Head]], Megatron's spark was sometimes seen floating freely, and under its own power, through the interior of the BFH, particuarly in a large space that appeared to serve as his control room.

As each one was absorbed, Megatron's spark grew larger in size.

Motorcycle Drones were used by Megatron in his conquest of [[Cybertron]]. They were the second type of Vehicons encountered by [[Optimus Primal]]'s Maximals, when a squad of drones chased them into the [[Oracle]] chamber and were defeated by the Maximals' new [[technorganic]] forms. The drones were granted a leader shortly thereafter when Megatron bestowed [[Waspinator]]'s spark upon a Motorcycle Drone, creating Thrust. Thrust and his drones continued to bedevil the Maximals, most notably when a group of Motorcycle Drones equipped with [[spark extractor]]s felled all of the Maximals save for Primal immediately prior to Cybertron's reformatting.
:The Motorcycle Drone was released in the last wave of the Beast Machines toyline, as part of the [[Battle for the Spark]] subline. It transforms into a maroon and silver Cybertronic motorcycle, and has both bipedal and wheeled robot modes (the latter of which was featured on the show). It features a missile launcher in the left tailpipe/right arm, activated by pressing on the spark crystal. It hews more closely to the animation model than the Thrust toy released the year before, which may be why it was [[redeco]]ed as Thrust for release in the Japanese [[Beast Wars Returns]] line several years later.
:''Megatron is a [[Predacon]] and a [[Vehicon]] in the [[Beast Era]] portion of [[Generation 1]] continuity.''

[[Image:Megatronbw.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Best. Megatron. Ever. Yeeeessssss...]]

'''Megatron''' has one goal -- restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal at various volumes is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything -- time, space, himself -- if need be.

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him -- an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them.

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack. He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.
On planet [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Megatron once disagreed with [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] over opinions on galactic conquest, and engaged him in battle over it. At the time, Megatron momentarily let his guard down, and was defeated. Galvatron declared "Your era is over, Megatron!"

Later, Megatron noted that while Galvatron was ambitious, he cared for his underlings - and although he was loathe to admit it, he acknowledged that Galvatron probably had all the regal bearing of a new [[Emperor of Destruction]]. {{storylink|Beast Wars II catalog}}
After stealing the [[Golden Disk]] ''(wrongly drawn as the [[Alien Disk]])'', Megatron broke into [[Vector Sigma]] along with [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] and reviewed historical files on many of the Autobots and Decepticons from the [[Generation 1]] era. He told Dinobot to refer to him henceforth as Megatron. {{storylink|Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #8}}
On Cybertron, Megatron wore removeable transformable armor, which transformed into a missile-launching armored platform, over his basic bodyframe (which transforms into a hovertank). This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. Although they were followed by the Maximal ships [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', the ''Darksyde''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission was also aided by a third ship crewed by the Predacon agents [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. Megatron removed his transformable armor and patched a video feed through to the ''Axalon'''s captain, [[Optimus Primal]]. Declaring himself the leader of the Predacons, Megatron opened a [[transwarp]] portal through which both ships travelled. {{storylink|Dawn of Future's Past}}
After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the Maximals and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars, Part 1}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Terrorsaur was eventually ridden of his newfound power and returned to an angered Megatron, who was rebuilt by [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

[[Image:Megatronbwtrex.jpg|150px|thumb|Ah, today is a beautiful day to be out stomping on things!]]
Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret vioce commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apaprently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron sneaked aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Again. {{storylink|Victory (Beast Wars episode)|Victory}}

Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realising he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he would presumably ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. {{storylink|The Agenda, Part 3}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan-1]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure (an act which altered Primal into a transmetal 2). The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}
Megatron was not to be outdone. He managed to sneak inside the Ark (which was now the new Maximal base) and take the spark of the original Megatron. He merged Megatron's spark with his own, transforming himself into a transmetal 2. {{Storylink|Master Blaster}}

Megatron's next evil scheme involved the legendary Decepticon battlesip, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]. After finding the ship deep beneath the ocean, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. First, however, he planned to annihilated the Ark on prehistoric Earth. Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. Primal had the Nemesis crash a second time and thus preserved history. {{storylink|The Nemesis, Part 1}}

After returning the original Megatron's spark to its proper body, the Maximals headed back to Cybertron with the incarcerated Megatron shackled to the outside of their ship. {{Storylink|The Nemesis, Part 2}}
Using some means of time travel, Megatron journeyed back to a point in history where the orignal Megatron had gone missing, leaving the [[Decepticon]]s without a leader. "Beast Megatron" took command of the Decepticons, leading them on a quest to collect a powerful element, [[solitarium]], from within the Earth. Beast Megatron's plans were quickly thwarted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a troop of time-displaced Autobots and Maximals, including [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]], [[Victory Leo]], [[Leo Prime]] and Beast Megatron's arch nemesis, [[Optimus Primal]].

Beast Megatron later discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]], and along with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Smokesniper]], [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]], laid waste to the Big Apple. The Autobots, accompanied by [[Reverse Convoy]], arrived and dealt with Beast Megatron's forces quickly. However, Reverse Convoy revealed himself to be the original Megatron in disguise and betrayed them. Now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)#Robot Masters (Japan-only)|Rebirth Megatron]], he teamed up with Beast Megatron and the pair made trouble for the Autobot commanders. However, the Autobots were able to defeat the two Megatrons, sending the villains into retreat.

[[Image:Megatron for life.jpg|right|thumb|Thoughtcrime does not entail death, thoughtcrime IS death.]]Breaking free from his constraints on the Autobot shuttle while it travelled through transwarp space, Megatron arrived back home on Cybertron well before the Maximals did. Using technology of his own devising and of [[Cryotek]]'s, he took over the entire planet, and stored the [[spark]] of every last inhabitant under his citadel.

When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from countless [[Vehicon|mindless drones]] controlled by Megatron. Megatron's drones immediately bombarded the Maximals with [[devolving gas]] to revert their powerful [[Transmetal]] bodies to normal beast mode bodies, and they were also affected by a [[transformation lock]] virus which Megatron had used to help him conquer the planet in the first place.

Despite his best efforts, the Maximals escaped, and learned to transform again after Primal used the [[Oracle]]'s power to [[reformatting|reformat]] them. They began making short work of his Vehicons, so he removed three sparks from his collection to create [[Vehicon general]]s which could think on their feet in battle. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]].

Ultimately, Megatron succeeded in capturing the sparks of all the Maximals, leaving just Optimus Primal and himself as the only two Transformers on the entire planet. At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, in which Megatron wore a copy of the powerful Optimal Optimus body, Megatron began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful. However, when he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. They plummeted into the planet's goopy core and, somehow, Primal was able to reformat the entire planet, destroying himself and Megatron completely, but freeing all the lost sparks to repopulate their newly redecorated planet.

====''Universe''====
When [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]]'s spark is retrieved from the core of [[Cybertron]] to protect the multiverse, this action freed Megatron's spark as well. The reborn Megatron returned to the ranks of the Predacons, but this time, Optimus Primal found himself in an uneasy alliance with him against Unicron. Megatron travelled with his old nemesis from universe to universe, wherever the growing multiversal conflict had spread. But now with Unicron disappeared into the [[Unicron Singularity]], it remains to be seen whether Megatron's insane ambition will resurface.

Prior to the Universe Conflict an alternate dimension's Megatron was killed by a [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Tigerhawk]] who was corrupted by the Vok. Yet another dimension's Megatron was killed by it's realities [[Obsidian (Universe)|Obsidian]] and [[Tankor (Universe Decepticon)|Tankor]]. All three Megatron-murderers were eventualy promoted to the rank of [[Unicron's General]]. It seems that killing Megatron may be part of Unicron's criteria for choosing a General.
As with all ''Transmetal'' toys, he has a 'third' vehicle mode, in this case a tyrannosaurus with rollerskates and jet engines.

: Really.

: This mold was retooled used to make [[Armada]] [[Predacon_(Armada)|Predacon]].

* '''Megatron''' (Transmetal 2 Ultra, 1999)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''D-47'''

[[Image:BWdragonmegs_toy.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Don't call him Mushu, either.]]

: The final version of Megatron transformed into a mostly mechanical dragon. Two projectiles stored in his wings can be fired from a spring-loaded launcher inside his dragon's mouth. Additionally, another launcher is available above his helmet. His chest is dominated by a small cockpit with a control chair inside (see Trivia). Megatron's dragon neck and head replaces his left arm, the neck being made of a rubbery material with vacuum metalised overlapping plates attached on top. The neck was flexible able to be controlled and locked into position by a small lever located at its base.

: ''Transmetal 2'' Megatron has a third 'vehicle' mode, which appears to be an afterthought, as it basically involves the dragon sitting very low to the ground so the wheels mounted on the legs and body can make contact and roll.

:This mold was also used to make [[Robots_in_Disguise|Robots in Disguise]] [[Cryotek]].

: For the 10th Anniversary of ''Beast Wars'', [[Hasbro]] created an all-new Deluxe-size tooling based mostly upon his original 1996 Tyrannosaurus form, but with technorganic detailing. When a [[Cyber Planet Key]] is inserted into his tail, it opens up to reveal a missile launcher.

: He is also packaged with a mini-comic-sized reprinting of [[IDW Publishing]]'s ''[[The Gathering]]'' #1, a small [[Darksyde|''Darksyde'']] ship figurine, and a [[Jungle Planet]] style Cyber Planet Key ''without'' a [[Cyber Key Code]] stamped on it. On its packaging, "Predacon" is misspelled as "Preadacon," but a sticker was placed over it with the proper spelling.

:This mold was [[redeco]]ed and released as [[Cybertron (toyline)|''Cybertron'']] [[Megatron_(Armada)|Megatron]]. It's worth noting that the scuplt for both BW10 leader toys were intentionally designed to blend in with the Jungle Planet aesthetic, "in case" they didn't get a Beast Wars Anniversary release (according to [[Aaron Archer]]'s statements at [[BotCon 2005]]).

: For the 10th Anniversary of ''Beast Wars'', [[Takara]] retooled the original 1996 Ultra-sized Megatron toy, giving him a new head sculpt and a new paint scheme based upon the appearance of the CGI model used in the ''Beast Wars'' television series.

: The 1996 Ultra-sized Optimus Primal was also retooled and redecoed in the same manner.

: The first ''Beast Machines'' incarnation of Megatron is based on his ''Transmetal 2'' dragon form, but with ''Beast Machines'' design style at a lower price point. The result was a weak copy of the larger, much more detailed predecessor.

: Like his television counterpart, his wings can fold around himself to create the control armour/cloak.
* '''Megatron''' (Kids' meal, 2000)

: The McDonald's Happy Meal Megatron was also released in Australia through the Red Rooster restaurant chain. Like the other three toys, it came in four color schemes. Strangely enough, the toy was labelled as "Nightscream" on the plastic baggy it came in.

: It was later redecoed in show-accurate colours for the japanese ''Beast Wars Returns'' toyline.

: Beast Megatron is a simplied version of the 1996 Ultra ''Beast Wars'' Megatron. Much smaller, it had a very similar transformation and had a sculpt resembling the television series CGI model, but a paint scheme similar to the original toy. he also came with a small laser rifle.
[[Image:BWRConcept35.jpg|right|170px|thumb|TM2 Megatron's control art. Look! Spark figure! Painful amounts of detail!]]

*Originally, ''Transmetal 2'' Megatron, along with [[Optimus_Primal|Optimal Optimus]] and [[Tigerhawk_(BW)|Tigerhawk]] were to have small driver-like figures sitting on control chairs located in cockpits on their bodies. These drivers were meant to represent their sparks. But [[Hasbro]] then later realized that kids might confuse these spark representations as drivers controlling the robots, so they were abandoned, but the cockpits remain.
: However, the spark pilot was eventually used in the japanese release of [[Cryotek]].

*The Japanese dub of Beast Wars chose to interject humor at every available opportunity. Due to this, Megatron's personality and character were taken on a complete U-turn. Instead of being a smooth and charismatic leader, he was a screaming maniac and a bumbling oaf. His most notable character-trait in Japan was that whenever he was fired-upon or startled he would let-out a high-pitched shriek like a '''little girl'''.''

*Megatron's initial basic Beast Wars toy is a [[retool]] of [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] with new alligator and robot heads, and no frill. The screw hole for the frill bracket remains. Both toys were released at roughly the same time.
'''BB''' is a hulking brute with limited mental capacity and ''very'' limited vocabulary. The only word in his dictionary is "Roger", as a matter of fact. He is perpetually loyal to Predacon Air Commander [[Starscream (BWII)|Starscream]] and goes along with all of his treacherous schemes.

BB can combine with Starscream in jet-mode to create the "Formation Scream" which enhances their aerial attack power. At one point, he was upgraded by [[Angolmois]] energy into '''Max B'''.
==Fiction==
===''Timelines: Intimidation Game'' script reading===

Max B, apparently a [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] follower, was present at [[Scourge (BW)|Scourge]]'s interrogation of the captured Tripredacus Agent [[Flamewar]]. He was initially disguised as the Maximal [[K-9]].

:''('''Note''': Since BB did not rename himself Max B until the events of Beast Wars II, and Intimidation Game is set significantly earlier, his appearance is problematic. There are many possibilities: BWII and IG do not exist in the same continuity, BB has used the name Max B prior to his transformation into a [[Cyborg Beast]], the Max B appearing in IG is not the same character as BB, BB is misidentified as Max B, and so on.)''

===''Beast Wars II'' and ''Neo'' cartoon===
'''Voice actor:''' [[Takeshi Watanabe]] (Japan)

Starscream was the brains of the Predacon air warriors and BB was the brawn (while [[Dirge (BWII)|Dirge]] and [[Thrust (BWII)|Thrust]] were the oafs). BB aided Starscream in numerous plots to overthrow [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] and take leadership of the Predacons, even going so far as to dunk [[Megastorm]] into a pit of [[Angolmois]] energy (this, however, only upgraded Megastorm into [[Megastorm|Gigastorm]]).

They continued this for quite some time until, eventually, Gigastorm had enough. While battling the Maximals, Starscream and BB fell into a trap Gigastorm had set for the Maximals (an area riddled with bombs). Gigastorm held off at first, but after the Predacons were defeated, Starscream began to beg for mercy and even offered to switch sides. This disgusted Gigastorm, who then activated the explosives. The explosion dropped Starscream and BB into a pit of Angolmois energy which upgraded them into Hellscream (a flying cybernetic shark) and Max B (a flying cybernetic wolf).

[[Image:MaxBMovie1.jpg|left|250px|thumb|Mighty Max!]]

As Max B, he still continued to follow his partner Hellscream and fight against the Maximals up until the final battle on the battleship [[Nemesis (BWII)|Nemesis]]. At the climax of that battle, Galvatron detonated the battleship, sending all the remaining Predacons (including Max B) floating helplessly through outer space.

Later, after the defeat of [[Unicron]], all the exiled Predacons were invited back to Cybertron to help rebuild their desolated planet.

[[image: BFH.jpg|right|thumbnail|250px|Dave, will I dream?]]
:''The Grand Mal is a space ship in the [[Beast Machines]] portion of the [[Generation 1]]/[[Beast Era]] continuity family.''

The '''Grand Mal''', or '''Megahead''', if you're Japanese, was the vessel [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] inhabited during the second season of [[Beast Machines]]. It could change between being an immense aircraft and, well, a '''big floating head''' (bearing a resemblance to Megatron's own head).

Megatron had been working at length to purge his body of its biomechanical elements. In the midst of a cataclysmic confrontation with Optimus Primal, he apparently succeeded, splitting his organic components off into a separate entity (the purely biological [[Noble/Savage]]). His [[Spark]], however, remained with the Noble/Savage portion, while his original robot form was destroyed by the combined forces that he and Primal had been unleashing.

Shortly afterwards, the Maximals encountered the Grand Mal, a giant version of Megatron's own head drifting empty, unmanned and lifeless above Cybertron. Apparently Megatron had been constructing it for some time in secret (schematics of it can be seen in the episode "Forbidden Fruit"), but was unable to reach it before the destruction of his original body. Some time later, with the unwitting help of the Maximals, "Noble" was eventually able to re-enter his citadel, where he transferred his Spark into the Grand Mal. The vessel served Megatron's body for much of the series' second season.

Inside the big floating head, Megatron often manifested himself as a slightly smaller floating holographic head.

Some time later, Megatron's Spark emerged from the Grand Mal while consuming the collective Sparks of Cybertron's population, an act which left him vulnerable to an attack by Nightscream. Nightscream's sonic blast left Megatron's Spark "depolarized", wandering madly about Cybertron without a body for a time. The Maximals occupied the empty Grand Mal and used it as their base, defending the captured Sparks of Cybertron's population that it contained.

In a subsequent battle, Megatron's Vehicons shot down the Grand Mal, which crashed on top of the citadel and was the site of the final battle between the Vehicons and Primal's team of Maximals. After the reformatting of Cybertron, its form remained visible, though covered with technorganic greenery.

''Note: The Grand Mal was not named in the [[Beast Machines (television series)|Beast Machines television series]]. The name comes from scripts and the short story [[Singularity Ablyss]] by series writer [[Bob Skir]].
Savage/Noble was quickly accepted into the [[Maximal]] fold, and was immediately befriended by [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]]. After the Maximals led him to Megatron's Citadel, Megs made his move, and downloaded his [[spark]] into a [[Grand Mal|Giant Warship]] (kind of shaped like his own head), leaving Savage/Noble a pure beast with an instinctual mind. Noble hung around, helping where he could, before eventually being killed by Megatron after saving the Maximals.
Razorbeast, [[Optimus Minor]], [[Bonecrusher (BW)|Bonecrusher]], and [[Snarl]] sneak into the [[Ark]] for parts to fix the signal amplifier.

A group of Predacons enter a swampy area, tracking any stray Maximals. There ''are'' Transformers in this swamp, but they are neither Maximal nor Predacon. They are [[Mutant (BW)|Mutants]]! [[Poison Bite]] stings [[Retrax]]; [[Soundwave (BW)|Soundwave]] takes a bite out of [[Powerpinch]]; [[Icebird]] takes down [[Transquito]]. [[Scourge (BW)|Scourge]] and [[Insecticon (BW)|Insecticon]] retreat.

Magmatron, [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]], and [[Drill Bit (BW)|Drill Bit]] insert Ravage's spark into a [[stasis pod]], transforming the blank [[protoform]] within into [[Transmetal 2]] Ravage.

A short time later, Snarl, still slavaging parts, detects Magmatron nearing [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]'s base. Megatron, returning from [[Changing of the Guard|a successful mission]], sends his troops [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] on ahead. While Megatron is left alone, Magmatron slips out of chronal displacement. Megatron suspects that Magmatron has come to complete [[The Agenda, Part 1|Ravage's previous task]], and he promptly kicks Magmatron's sorry ass. Distracted, Drill Bit and Iguanus easily knock Megatron out.

Razorbeast realizes that, with Megatron now his prisoner, Magmatron will return to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to continue his plans for takeover. Razorbeast and Optimus Minor rush to stop him (repeating his gathering signal), while the others return to base with the parts.

Ravage dispatches [[Lazorbeak]], [[Buzz Saw (BW)|Buzz Saw]], [[Injector]], [[Sky Shadow (BW)|Sky Shadow]], and [[Jetstorm (BW)|Jetstorm]] to locate the Maximal base.

Magmatron prepares to send Megatron back to Cybertron as an offering to gain favor with the [[Tripredacus Council]]. Razorbeast and Optimus Primal, watching from cover, discuss how to take down Magmatron. As if on cue, a distraction arrives in the form of [[Grimlock]]!

:''Dinobot is a [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] and [[Maximal]] from the [[Beast Era]] portion of the [[Generation 1]] continuity.''

[[Image:Dinobotbwx.jpg|thumb|right|250px|"He lived like a warrior and died a hero." [http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/ee52db9e103fd5a8?hl=en&]]]

'''Dinobot''' is a Predacon ruled by honor. He lives to die gloriously in battle. When he aided [[Megatron_(BW)|Megatron]] in the theft of the [[Golden Disc]] under the order of [[Cryotek]], Dinobot believed he was in the pursuit of endless glory. But when he and his Predacon peers crashed on a mysterious planet alongside a Maximal exploration vessel, his desire to be on the winning side turned him to the Maximal team. At first he feared his growing sense of right and wrong would clash with the demands of his Predacon heritage -- but perhaps they are not mutually exclusive after all.

==Fiction==

===Beast Wars===
'''Voice Actor:''' [[Scott McNeil]] (US), [[Keiji Fujiwara]] (Japan)

Immediately after crash landing on [[Earth]], Dinobot turned on Megatron, claiming the Predacon commander had led them to the wrong planet. Unfazed by Dinobot's tirade, Megatron had [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] blast him, and left him for dead. Dinobot left the Predacons and laid in wait for the Maximals to return to their base. Challenging [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus]] to a duel, Dinobot was determined to lead one faction or another and gain the glory he desperately sought. During the duel, Dinobot displayed a rare amount of honor, fair play, and self sacrifice and won the respect of Optimus, who asked him to join the Maximals. This didn't sit well with the other Maximals, particularly [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]], but as the series went on the two became a strange sort of friends.

As a Maximal, Dinobot still displayed strong Predacon tendancies. He was usually more willing to go to the extreme in terms of tactics, use whatever weapons the Maximals had, and often advocated kicking the Predacons when they were down. He also proved to be fairly introspective, and did not miss the gravity of his own situation should the Maximals ever win the Beast Wars. [http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Victory_(Beast_Wars_episode)]

After the destruction of the [[Planet Buster]], and it became obvious that they were on Earth, Dinobot had a few crises of character. His honor and growing sense of doing the right thing were coming into direct conflict with his desires to be on the winning side and gain eternal glory. He broke into the Predacon [[Darkside|base]] and stole the golden disks from Megatron, hiding the one from Cybertron and taking the [[Vok|Alien]] disk back to the [[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]. Hiding the theft from his Maximal comrades, Dinobot agonized over the contents of the disk from Cybertron. He knew that the knowledge on the disk would make Megatron powerful enough to win the Beast Wars, and rewrite history. After this revelation, Dinobot's desire for victory and glory got the better of him and he rejoined the Predacons and gave Megatron the disk back. [http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Maximal,_No_More] However, his friendship with Rattrap proved to be too strong, he couldn't eliminate the "vermin", and he once again turned on Megatron and rejoined the Maximals.

Dinobot was lost. Had he fumbled his chance at being a great warrior? After contemplating suicide and getting berated by a hurt Rattrap for his betrayal, Dinobot set out to find Megatron and set things right. [http://www.transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Code_of_Hero] However, Megatron had led the Predacons to the valley occupied by the proto-humans, intending to wipe them out and change history. [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] saw the imminent attack and radioed for help before he was forced to head back to base for repairs. Dinobot responed to the call and took on all of the Predacons by himself. Ignoring the damage he took, the warnings of his own internal computer, and the danger to himself, Dinobot defeated all of the Predacons save Megatron. Mocking the weakened Dinobot, Megatron tallied the score firmly in his own favor. He had unimaginable power(i.e. the Golden Disk ), the valley was in ruins, and he had hostages. Refusing to quit, Dinobot improvised (with a wood and rock axe), snatched the disk from Megatron, and with the last of his power, shattered it with his eye beams. The effort cost him, and a short time after the rest of the Maximals arrived, Dinobot's spark left his frame.
Dinobot uses almost all of Longrack's new-mold parts save for the head; Hoist's was a dead ringer for Dinobot in the first place. He transforms into a Cybertronic excavator. Inserting a [[Cyber Key]] or [[Golden Disk Key]] into his shoulder assembly unlocks a shovel-punch attack activated by pressing on the plunger mechanism above the key port. Like Longrack, he does ''not'' come with a [[Mini-Con]] partner.
''Arcee is an [[Autobot]] in the [[Generation 1]] continuity.''

'''Arcee''' is a female Transformer, usually seen in the same general area as her friends and fellow Autobots [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]], both of whom she cares for deeply. The level-headed and logical one of the three, it is usually Arcee who needs to reign in the other two when their egos or attitudes are getting out of control. In addition to being a fierce warrior and talented gunner, she also just might be one of [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap's]] ancestors.

=Fiction=
===Generation 1 Cartoon===
''Voice actress:'' [[Susan Blu]] (US), [[Masako Katsuki]] → [[Yōko Kawanami]] (Japan)

Although there are many other female Autobots, Arcee appears to be the only one to hold any sort of rank or position amongst the forces found in Autobot City. She seems to share the same basic design as the medical bots on the planet of [[Paradron]], implying that she may have begun her life as a medic before picking up the art of war. Certainly, during the assault on Autobot City her main role seemed to involve gathering the injured and dying Autobots (possibly for triage). Arcee was also instrumental in helping [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] transform Autobot City to repel the [[Decepticon]] invaders, buying precious time for reinforcements and likely saving many lives. She was among the few Autobots to survive [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron's]] savage blitz on the city, and was nearly left behind when [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] forced the Autobots to evacuate.

Arcee survived the attack, and the crash landing on the planet [[Junk|Junk]], all the while going to great lengths in order to protect and care for young Daniel Witwicky, a human friend of [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod's]] who had wound up on the shuttle with her. Throughout the entire battle with [[Unicron]], Daniel's safety was Arcee's top priority. The almost maternal connection between Daniel and Arcee was a powerful one, which was only strengthened some time later when they became binary bonded as [[Headmaster]] partners during an adventure on the planet [[Nebulos]].

====The Headmasters====

''(The Headmasters anime ignores the events from the 3-part "The Rebirth" story arc)''

In 2011, Arcee either lost her taste for combat or was slapped into her place by the male Autobots. Mostly because, through-out Headmasters, she acted as [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress']] secretary. That is not an exaggeration... she was literally his secretary, filing reports, working computers and monitoring events. At one point she wanted to leave with [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]], [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] and [[Kup]] to search for a new homeworld after Cybertron blew up, but Rodimus told her to stay because she's a girl, and girls can't do anything but stand around and worry and make coffee for the men. During a party shortly afterward, she slow-danced with [[Chromedome]] and the pair had ''something'' resembling a mutual attraction through-out the show (at one point, Chromedome becomes aroused at seeing her transformation from a car).

''Dammit'', Japan.

===Marvel UK Generation 1 Comics===

[[Image:Arcee-modelkit.jpg|right|thumb|150px|S.O.B's shot my Leia-buns!]]

Arcee was constructed by the Autobots as a good-will attempt to placate angry humans who thought that they were "sexist" for having no women in their group. After trying multiple times to explain that Autobots, being robots, had no genders, Optimus Prime gave up and ordered the resident mad scientists [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] to make a new Autobot who would meet the humans' demands for sexual equality.

Arcee's creators built her to resemble a human female, and programmed her with "feminine" responses in her personality matrix. Just to be on the safe side, they even painted her pink so that there could be no doubt that she was a girl. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] gave her life, and held a public unveiling ceremony to introduce her to the public.

The humans' reactions were mixed, as were the rotten fruits and vegetables that many people started to throw at the Autobots. Apparently, according to the human females present, Arcee had been made ''too'' feminine - now, she was just supporting sexist stereotypes of what women were supposed to look and act like. They especially hated the fact that she was pink.

Being less picky when it came to appearances than the public, Optimus Prime decided to keep Arcee around after she managed to fight off a Decepticon attack on the stadium where she was being unveiled. During this attack, Arcee also managed to save the life of a young Autobot named [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], who was suitably impressed and loudly declared how great she was.

Realising that even though they liked Arcee, the humans did not, and that they had no idea what would make the protestors happy, the Autobots decided to stop trying. This left Arcee in the unenviable postion of being both the first and the last female Autobot to ever exist.
*'''Arcee''' (Mega, 2001)

: The very first true transforming Arcee toy (and currently the ''only'' one of the Generation 1 character) is a [[redeco]] and minor [[retool]]ing of the ''[[Beast Wars]]'' [[Transmetal 2]] [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], transforming into a malformed mish-mash of machine and organic parts in the form of a large spider. The spider-mode fangs become a grappling weapon for her robot mode which extend on a retractable string. The robot mode also features a spring-powered waist-swivel for "power kick" action. Arcee lacks the retail version's additional chest armor, and the oddly-placed holes in her... well, chest, that keep the armor in place.

: Arcee was available only as an [[exclusive]] to [[BotCon 2001]], and along with [[Tigatron (BW)|Tigatron]] were the first time since the inception of [[3H]] that they were allowed to use pre-existing characters for convention exclusives. Arcee is also the first convention toy to feature retooling. Attendees to the semi-formal dinner recieved their Arcees with a bonus; the box contained a light-sensitive sound chip featuring voice actress [[Susan Blu]]'s voice saying "Don't underestimate me, I'm more than just a pretty face. Arcee, MAXIMIZE!". These chips are VERY light-sensitve. Many won't shut up to this day.

Not much is known about the Maximal Elders, including who the members are and how many exist. The [[Tripredacus Council]] is accused of kissing their skid-plates. They apparently keep a tight hold on any and all information regarding the [[Great War]] and [[Earth]], restricting access to it from the general populance. (The Predacon's conversly have no such restrictions.) They have also made the area of space around planet Earth off limits, for unknown reasons. They all had thier asses handed to them by Megatron after he returned from the Beast Wars.

===''Beast Wars Neo''===

The Maximal Elders were shown as the Supreme ruling body of the Maximal faction, communing with [[Vector Sigma]] and giving orders to Generals of a [[Convoy]] ranking. The Maximal Elders assigned [[Big Convoy]] with the task of training a fresh batch of new recruits. Big Convoy was notoriously anti-social and a bit of a psycho. The Maximal Elders believed that by surrounding him with rowdy youngsters, Big Convoy might learn how to make friends.

When [[Unicron]] was reborn, he made his way back to [[Cybertron]] to settle an old score with the planet. [[Great Convoy]], a member of the Maximal Elders, lead a Maximal armada of hundreds of warships against the Chaos God. However, they were all instantly destroyed by Unicron's fiery serpent-mode and Great Convoy was killed the battle. The fate of the other Maximal Elders is unknown.
==Additional notes==
Many fans assume that [[Magnaboss]] may fill the same role for the Maximals that the [[Tripredacus Council]] performs for the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]]. Its three components' [[Generation 1]]-inspired names infers to some that these are the original [[Autobot]]s in advisory roles. Indeed, in the ''Universe'' comics, Magnaboss was depicted as a member of the [[High Council]], among others, after the reformatting of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].
One of their agents, [[Tarantulas]] of the Predacon Secret Police, suggests that, like himself and unlike the rest of the Predacons, the Tripredacus Council are not descended from the [[Decepticon]]s. Instead, they may have extradimensional origins, or may be, in fact, creations of [[Unicron]] himself.
'''Kiss Players''' (キスぷれ, ''Kisu Pure'') takes place in the year 2006, which in the Japanese continuity is one year after the movie and four years before the third season of the cartoon.

Its name comes from the controversial gimmick of the show involving Transformers getting "power-ups" by getting kissed by girls. Although this plotline may seems like a shift in demographics to little girls, it is said that this line was aimed at at a much older, adult male audience.

A ''Kiss Players'' segment began airing on the Japanese radio show "Lyrian Moe-tchao" on April 3, 2006 in Japan and is set to end in September.

A serialized ''Kiss Players'' manga by [[Yuki Ohshima]] began publication on August, 2006 in ''Dengeki Daioh''[http://www.mediaworks.co.jp/special/daioh/] magazine. It is very sickening and creepy.
:''Hot Rod is an Autobot in the [[Generation 1]] continuity family. He has also been known as '''Rodimus Prime''', '''Rodimus''', and '''Rodimus Major'''.''

[[Image:DVDbox3d1.jpg|right|300px|thumb|Opening the Matrix gives you wrinkles.]]

'''Hot Rod''' is brash and headstrong, with an overwhelming self-confidence that borders on arrogance. [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] has assumed the role of mentor and advisor to the impetuous young Hot Rod, offering him wisdom and advice when he needs it (though Hot Rod rarely feels that he does, much to Kup's annoyance). [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]], a female Autobot, also serves as a calming influence on Hot Rod, and tends to either worry about him when he is not around, or deride and tease him when he is. Their relationship is antagonistic, but friendly. Exactly how deep Hot Rod's feelings for Arcee might run is unknown, whether they be friendly, romantic, or otherwise.

In contrast, his '''Rodimus Prime''' persona - while still headstrong and stubborn - seems to suffer from a severe lack of confidence, often doubting his own decisions and expressing distress over his position as an Autobot leader. Of course, much of this comes from having immediately succeeded leadership from [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], and shoes-to-be-filled don't ''get'' much bigger than that.

One thing that both sides of this Autobot's identity have in common is their impatience - neither Hot Rod nor Rodimus Prime can stand to wait around when they could be doing something instead. He is also very self-reliant, rarely sending others to do anything when he could be doing it himself.

His [[Targetmaster]] partner is [[Firebolt (G1)|'''Firebolt''']].
==Fiction==
===Animated continuity===
'''Voice actors:''' [[Judd Nelson]] → [[Dick Gautier]]; [[Hiroya Ishimaru]] (Japan)

Hot Rod was one of the many Autobots based in [[Autobot City]], on [[Earth]]. He was close friends with the young human [[Daniel Witwicky]], and seemed to have a reputation for being something of a trouble-maker, judging from a few of Kup's comments to him at the time. Realising that the Decepticons were invading, Hot Rod opened fire on their stolen shuttle and exposed their ruse before Megatron could enter the city. Although this did give the rest of the Autobots time to begin transforming Autobot City and raising their defences, it also left Hot Rod trapped outside with Kup and Daniel. After defeating the Decepticons [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] and [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] with some help from Kup, Hot Rod managed to find a way inside the fortress city and took part in its defense. During [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime's]] battle with [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], Hot Rod intervened in an attempt to help, but succeeded only in giving Megatron the chance he needed to mortally wound the Autobot leader.

After Prime's death, Autobot City was attacked again - by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]. While escaping, Hot Rod and Kup (and the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]) were seperated from the rest of the Autobots and crashed on the planet [[Quintessa|Quintessa]]. There, Hot Rod met the Quintessons, an enemy who would haunt him for some time later. After escaping their sadistic trial and attempted execution (as well as meeting [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]]), Hot Rod went on to the planet [[Junk]], where he was just in time to stop [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] from destroying the rest of the Autobot City refugees with a timely use of the [[Universal Greeting]]. Together, they all travelled to [[Cybertron]] to stop [[Unicron (G1)|Unicron]] before he could eat more than just its moons.

Inside of Unicron, Hot Rod was seperated from the rest of his team when their ship crashed (something which happens to Hot Rod a lot). Alone, he found himself facing [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] in a battle to the death over the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Claiming the Matrix, Hot Rod evolved into "Rodimus Prime", an older, larger, and more powerful version of himself, and used the power of the Matrix to destroy both Galvatron ''and'' Unicron once and for all (supposedly).

Peace reigned on Cybertron for at least long enough to put up some of the more important buildings, and Rodimus Prime began to ease into his role as the new Autobot leader. When Ultra Magnus and Spike Witwicky were kidnapped during a peace celebration, it was Rodimus who spied on the Decepticons with [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] to determine if they were the ones who had done it. The way Rodimus had it figured, the Decepticons were usually behind everything anyway, so they seemed like a good enough place to start. After getting caught and severely beaten by the Decepticons (who were innocent of the kidnapping, but not really fans of his anyway), Rodimus was able to interface with the Matrix and learned about the origins of the Transformer race. He also learned that his old enemies, the Quintessons, were back and looking to destroy every Transformer in existence. Making things worse, Galvatron soon returned as well, and the war that everyone had assumed was safely over quickly started up again.

During this period, Rodimus Prime's greatest achievements both revolved around his predecessor, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. While fleeing from a Decepticon attack, Rodimus and several other Autobots took refuge in a massive Autobot crypt and discovered that their former leader seemed to have returned to life. Perhaps a little too trusting of Optimus (and possibly eager to relieve himself of the burden of leadership), Rodimus quickly passed the Matrix back to Optimus and, much to his glee, reverted back into Hot Rod. His happiness was short-lived, however, as Optimus was quickly revealed to be nothing more than a puppet of the Quintessons, sent to trick the Autobots into an ambush from which none of them would escape. With no other choice, Hot Rod was forced to do battle with Optimus Prime for the fate of the Autbots. Although their duel was clearly in the favour of the more powerful Optimus, Hot Rod was able to re-awaken the true spirit of his leader. Returning the Matrix to Rodimus, Optimus then piloted his ship into the heart of the ambush and sacrificed himself to save them all.

Or so it had seemed at the time. As was so often the case for Rodimus, things did not quite wrap up as tidily as he might have hoped. Far from being destroyed, Optimus had been retrieved by a team of human scientists who were hoping to use him (again) as a weapon against the Autobots - this time as the bearer of a malignant "Hate Plague" that would cause them to destroy each other. When he learned of this, Rodimus swiftly formed a rescue party and led them to retrieve Optimus' body so that their former leader could rest in peace. When all of the rest of the Autobots with him were exposed to the Hate Plague, only Rodimus was able to escape unharmed - and with the still uninfected body of Optimus. Returning to Autbot City, Rodimus ordered [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky-Lynx]] to find a Quintesson to repair Optimus, then risked his life to shut down [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] before the Plague could spread to it. Attacked by Ultra Magnus and Wreck-Gar in the process, he succumbed to the plague and became infected with hate. In order to stop the Plague, the resurrected Optimus had to defeat the crazed Rodimus and forcibly extract the Matrix from him, changing him back into Hot Rod once more. This time, as Optimus had decided to stick around, the change was somewhat more permanent. ''Somewhat''.

===="Rebirth" miniseries (America-only)====

Even after losing his position as Autobot leader, Hot Rod was not the sort to rest on his laurels. Among other things, he was instrumental in championing the idea of human/Transformer binary bonding, a technique that later resulted in the [[Headmaster|Headmasters]] and [[Targetmaster|Targetmasters]]. Hot Rod himself became one of the latter, bonding himself to a [[Nebulos|Nebulon]] named [[Firebolt (G1)|Firebolt]].

====''Headmasters'' (Japan-only)====

''(The Headmasters anime skips the events which occurred in the 3-part "The Rebirth" story arc)''

After the events of "The Return of Optimus Prime", Hot Rod maintained a high-level position among the Autobots as well as a new sense of duty and responsibility. After [[Vector Sigma]] was under threat of explosion, Hot Rod raced all over Earth trying to find the [[Matrix]], which was still being repaired after its confrontation with the Hate Plague. Hot Rod eventually found the Matrix in a hiding place on Earth and rushed it back to Cybertron. Racing down to Vector Sigma, he met up with Optimus Prime and the ghost of [[Alpha Trion (G1)|Alpha Trion]]. Alpha Trion repaired the Matrix fully and Hot Rod transformed back into Rodimus Prime. Together, Optimus and Rodimus fought side-by-side to defeat Galvatron and his goons. However, to save Vector Sigma, Optimus Prime sacrified his life by merging with the super computer.

Rodimus became Autobot Supreme Commander once more and continued to lead the Autobots against the Decepticons. However, once again, Vector Sigma came under threat of destruction. However due to poor writing all he did was stand around and wait for it to happen, but managed to evacuate all of Cybertron before it was destroyed. In search of a new homeworld, Rodimus, [[Kup (G1)| Kup]] and [[Blurr (G1)| Blurr]] left the planet. [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] asked if she could go, too, but Rodimus made her stay behind because she's a girl, and girls can't do anything but stand around and worry and make coffee for the men.

====Japanese manga====

[[Image:Ep14.jpg|right|200px|thumb|He's so dreeeaaaaamyyyy.]]

In the concluding chapter of the Headmasters manga, issue number 8, Rodimus Prime returned from his journey in space. During his quest, he faced many dangers and hardships and learned a new admiration for the human race and the planet Earth. His trials also increased the power of the Matrix, which he had taken with him on his journey.

====''Battlestars: Return of Convoy'' (Japan-only)====

Rodimus would not appear again until [[Battlestars]], where he was shown to have reverted back to Hot Rod and now been converted into a [[Micromaster]]. As a Micromaster, Hot Rod took up residence in [[Optimus Prime (G1)#Battlestars: Return of Convoy (Japan-only)|Star Convoy's]] chest, boosting his Supreme Commander's power.

''(Hot Rod's Micromaster body leaves fans to believe that the new homeworld he went searching for ended up being [[Planet Micro]], which was featured prominantly in [[Victory (television series)|Transformers Victory]].)''

===Dreamwave comics continuity===

Hot Rod joined an underground Autobot cell led by [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] after [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave's]] takeover of [[Cybertron]]. Among the members of the cell was [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]], who Hot Rod became attached to.

From the [[Wastelands]], Hot Rod, [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]], and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] observed an incoming Decepticon shuttle carrying the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]. Shortly afterwards, the cell rescued [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] from [[Runamuck (G1)|Runamuck]] and [[Runabout (G1)|Runabout]], and took him to their base. After awakening, Prime attacked [[Gnaw (G1)|Gnaw]], Blurr, and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]], forcing Hot Rod (who didn't recognize him) to hold him at gunpoint. After being admonished by Kup, Hot Rod apologized.

After Shockwave unleashed the [[Guardian Robots]] on [[Iacon]], Prime organized the resistance cell and other Autobot forces on the planet in an assault on Shockwave's citadel. Fighting alongside the Autobot leader, Hot Rod was amazed that the stories Kup had told him about Prime's courage and heroism had all been true. As an injured Prime breached the citadel, Hot Rod, Ironhide and [[Springer (G1)|Springer]] provided cover fire, taking down a number of Guardians in the process. Along with the rest of Iacon, they witnessed the divine light of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Autobot Matrix of Leadership]] when Shockwave activated it.

As Prime and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] battled Shockwave within the citadel, Hot Rod and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] took down [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] and [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]]. Immediately afterwards, they were confronted with the looming threat of a remaining Guardian Robot - a threat that was soon neutralized by the arrival of the [[Wreckers]], the [[Autobot High Council]], and [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]. The unified Autobot group soon breached the citadel.

Some time later, Hot Rod ran a simulation combat scenario against Kup, and won using tactics that, in Kup's opinion, would have killed them both had it been real. Only after his victory did Hot Rod remember that he'd promised to take Arcee to see an [[Earth]]-bound shuttle launch - a duty Springer was happy to relieve him of. Soon afterwards, he was assigned to perimeter guard duty at [[Autobase]] with Gnaw and Wheelie, separating him from Arcee.

===''Universe: The Wreckers''===
After the Great Wars ended, he changed his name to Rodimus and joined the [[Wreckers]]! After [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] took over Cybertron with his [[Vehicon]] drones, Wrecker leader [[Apelinq]] got stranded on prehistoric Earth, leaving Rodimus in charge. True to form, he ditched leadership duties to [[Primal Prime]] as soon as possible.

[[Image:Hotrod-micro.jpg|100px|left|thumb|This isn't the last time he'll work with a creepy-looking girl.]]
===''Teletraan Go! Go!'' mini-comics===
Hot Rod (in his [[Micromaster]] form) rescued [[Teletraan 15]] from a strange mechanical monster, a [[Great Novaroid|Novaroid]]. Teletraan 15 noted that Hot Rod was considerably smaller than she remembered him. Irked, Hot Rod laid the blame for the [[transwarp]] holes in space-time on 15. It was through these holes that this future/alternate version of Hot Rod and the Novaroid had arrived in Teletraan 15's time.

===''Kiss Players''===
'''Voice actors:''' [[Ryōtarō Okiayu]] (Japan)

Hot Rod (as Hot Rodimus) is partnered with the former [[Earth Defense Command|E.D.C.]] [[Kiss Player]] [[Shao-Shao Li|Lǐ Shāo-Shāo]]. Following his rescue of the kung-fu mistress from almost certain death by [[Legion]] ingestion, the two now travel around [[Japan]] battling the E.D.C., Legion, and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]].

At some point shortly following the rescue, Hot Rod upgraded from his original form to one that transforms into the alternate mode of a Ford GT. This presumably involved [[ParasiTech]] fusion and allows him to function in the [[anti-electron]] field that the E.D.C. has established over the planet [[Earth]].

Hot Rod is cocky and confident in his speed and sharpshooting skills, and weathers his human partner's complaints that he's slacking off on his hand-to-hand combat training. He would much prefer to practice kissing, and the resulting fusion grants him Shāo's considerable martial arts skills as well as the ability to wield his firearms as [[wikipedia:tonfa|tonfas]].

He enjoys fishing and carries a customized rod that can be converted into forearm-mounted weapons. Shāo-Shāo doesn't like working with him after a fishing trip due to the smell, but she secretly wishes that he would take her with him anyway. He's also suspicious of Optimus Prime, and claims that he is not the ''real'' Optimus, presumably because he still believes his former commander to be dead following the battle of Autobot City.

Hot Rod has the distinction of being the only known robot with a Kiss Player partner to have lips. This may contribute to Shāo's feelings of excitement when she kisses him, though the rest of the time she's a bit outraged that a robot would have the audacity to talk to her like a person.
[[Image:Rodimusmajor.jpg|125px|right|thumb|This is totally what automobiles will look like in the far-flung future of 2005.]]
* '''Hot Rod''' (Autobot Car, 1986/2000/2002)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''C-78'''

: Hot Rod was one of the first toys designed specifically for the ''Transformers'' toyline, versus being an imported pre-existing toy. Designer [[Floro Dery]] created Hot Rod for the animated film and then the toy was created from his model sheet. (The model sheet would be altered further after the toy was completed.) Hot Rod transforms from a robot into a "futuristic" hot rod sportscar. The toy comes with two rifles. There are two versions of this toy; initial releases have die-cast (unpainted) metal feet, while later shipments use black plastic.

: In 2000, [[Takara]] re-released the Hot Rod toy, having had to retro-[[retool]] it from the [[Targetmaster]] release. In 2002, [[Hasbro]] released it as part of the Toys 'R' Us [[exclusive]] [[Commemorative Series]] line as '''Rodimus Major'''. Both versions use die-cast metal for his feet.

: The same mold is used by [[Black Rodimus (G1)|Black Rodimus]].

* '''Rodimus Prime''' (Autobot Hero, 1986/2004)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''C-77'''

: Rodimus Prime was designed in much the same way as Hot Rod. Rodimus transforms from a robot and battle platform into a futuristicky Winnebago camper. The toy comes with a "Photon eliminator" rifle and two blast shields to attach to either side of his battle platform's cannon. (The yellow spoiler was also to be removed and replaced during transformation.) Like Hot Rod, there are materials variations; initial releases have metal toes with rubber tires, while latter shipments replaced both with black plastic.

: The metal-toes/rubber-ties version of the toy saw re-release in both Japan and the US in 2004.

: This mold is also used by [[Primus]].

* '''Hot Rod w/ Firebolt''' (Targetmaster, 1987/2004)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''C-110''', '''TFC-13'''
: Hot Rod was re-released with his new [[Nebulan]] [[Targetmaster]] partner [[Firebolt (G1)|Firebolt]] a year after the original release. The toy was [[retool]]ed to have larger pegholes in his fists and his engine block so the Targetmaster gun would fit. Latter versions of this toy retooled his lower legs to minimize the scraping of his thigh decals.

: Takara reissued Targetmaster Hot Rod in 2004 as sort of an "ultimate" version, with metal toes (the original versions all used plastic) and the twin rifles from the non-Targetmaster version.

*'''Crystal Rodimus''' (Autobot Car, 2001)
: ''Japanese ID number:'' '''C-78C'''
: One of the earliest [[e-Hobby]] exclusives, "Crystal" Rodimus uses the reissue Hot Rod mold, but cast almost entirely in transparent plastics. He was availbale only in a set with the evil clone [[Black Rodimus (G1)|Black Rodimus]].

: Available only with [[Optimus Prime (G1)#Battlestars: Return of Convoy (Japan-only)|Star Convoy]], Hot Rod's [[Micromaster]] form is a simplified version of his original toy, transforming into the same futuristic race car. In 2005, Star Convoy was re-released with several deco changes; among them, the decals used on Hot Rod were changed to [[paint applications]].

===Classics===
*'''Rodimus''' (Deluxe, 2006)
: Rodimus comes out in fall 2006. This toy is a sleeker, more streamlined version of the original, now transforming into a heavily-altered Dome Zero, a [http://www.supercarnet.jp/File/File-Japan/File-Dome.htm futuristic race car from 1978]. His rear-mounted thruster engine becomes a hand-held weapon in robot mode, launching a spring-loaded missile. In a twist of fandom irony, classics Rodimus has elements that were introduced in his Energon version, making him a backwards homage.
Well, someone edited out the part about the Pred council having their meeting on the space station and left a pointless fragment in its place. Either we should say they meet there like it did, or at least say there is a station. But just saying "they meet" is stupid and pointless and out of place in that section. Is their debate over the station?
Although they did appear to convene on the station in the Agenda, they were intended to meet on Cybertron. The IDW "Gathering" series, portrays them meeting on the surface of Cybertron instead.
:''The Predacons are a faction in the [[Beast Era]] portion of the [[Generation 1]] continuity.''
[[Image:Predacon symbol.png|right|180px]]
Arising from the ashes of the [[Great War]], the '''Predacons''' are, at least in part, descendants of the [[Decepticon]]s, born from what remained of the original five [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]]. By order of the [[Pax Cybertronia]] they exist as something of an underclass, appearing to be equals, but firmly under the [[Maximal]]s in the social order.

== Organization ==

The Predacons, although apparently governed by an organization known as the [[Predacon Alliance]], appear to be a splintered faction. One of the major ruling bodies is the [[Tripredacus Council]], but they may represent only one political voice within the Alliance. The Council keeps its followers pacified under the Pax Cybertronia with the promise of a slow, sly return to power, whispering of a long term plan to overthrow the Maximals when the time is right. A number of Predacons have expressed dissatisfaction with this approach, leading renegades such as [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], [[Galvatron (BW)|Galvatron]] and [[Magmatron]] to recruit private armies of followers and, either covertly or overtly, strike out against the Maximals on their own. All known Beast Wars-era Predacons tend to fall within the arms of these renegade militias, with the exceptions of the Tripredacus Council itself, [[Tarantulas]], and [[Ravage]], who were members of the [[Predacon Secret Police]]. It is unknown whether the Predacons have any sort of official standing army or defence force other than this internal Secret Police.

== Bases of Operation ==

It is unknown where exactly the Predacons are based.

The Tripredacus Council holds meetings aboard a space station, [[Predacon Command Outpost One]].

While one would presume the Predacons also had some sort of presence on Cybertron itself, there is evidence that seems to counter this. After they return to Cybertron following the events of Beast Wars, [[Optimus Primal]], Megatron, and the rest refer frequently and exclusively to the missing population as Maximals and later Maximal sparks only. This seems to strongly suggest that they did not expect any Predacons to be on the planet, or at least, if they were, in such small numbers as to not even rate mentioning. Beast Machines story editor and head writer Robert N. Skir seems to suggest that the Predacons suffered the same fate as the Maximals in his FAQ pages.

''(In real world terms the Predacons were excluded from the [[Beast Machines]] show and toyline in fear of confusing children with a third faction. Nonetheless, "in-story" it remains an odd and conspicuous absence.)''

The name '''Megatron''' can refer to several different characters:

*[[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], leader and founder of the [[Decepticon]]s from ''[[Generation 1]]''.
'''Megatron''' is not to be confused with:
