Brasnya is a republic of the Soviet Union attempting to break off and become an independent country. Russia does not approve of these plans. Megatron aims to use this conflict to initiate a new, global war that will leave humans in a weakened position when the Decepticons choose to take action. To accomplish this, he... turns into a gun and lets himself be fired a few times. Great plan. The nation is probably based on Chechnya, a federal subject of Russia which has a violent history of separatism.

Wheeljack is his own worst enemy. Something of a crackpot inventor, a good half of his creations blow up in his face, and that's just if he's lucky. He's simultaneously one of the Autobots' greatest assets and problems; for every successful gadget he builds, there's one which requires Ratchet or Hoist to put him (and his lab) back together. But once in a while he strikes gold, which has won him respect from even the Decepticons.

He is, however, not a complete nerd. As good as he is in the lab, Wheeljack is just as amazing on the road, since there're few stunts he can't pull off. He enjoys showing off both on the design table and on the streets.

In the Marvel UK Universe, Wheeljack survived the Battle of Autobot City, as seen by being strung up by Quintessons in 2008. He wasn't seen after that, though Blaster survived the same treatment.

Wheeljack was one of the original crew of Autobots aboard the Ark when it crashed into the Earth four million years ago. Originally a boxy-shaped transport affixed with retractable bumper-mounted cutting blades, Wheeljack was reformatted in 1984 to be a speedy and rare Lancia Stratos Turbo custom racing car. More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1

Wheeljack was part of the battle unit organized by Jazz to first challenge the re-awakened Decepticons on Earth. He was involved in the battle at an off-shore oil rig, where the Autobots would meet the Witwickys, human workers that would befriend the Autobots. Wheeljack developed an especially close friendship with Sparkplug Witwicky, as the two were both gifted mechanics. Wheeljack was next part of the team that attempted to stop the Decepticon plot to overload Sherman Dam.

A restless engineer, Wheeljack has developed all manner of contraptions and equipment for his personal use and for use by his fellow Autobots, often with catastrophic results. He designed the compact yet extremely powerful explosive that nearly trapped the Decepticons in the ruby crystal mines of Burma, a magnetic inducer device capable of stopping Transformers cold in their tracks, and a gyro-inhibitor shell that could incapacitate even Megatron for short spans.

Upon discovery of dinosaur bones in caverns within the Ark's volcano, Wheeljack and Ratchet were inspired to construct robotic version of dinosaurs. The Dinobots were originally too dangerous and too primitive to control, leading to Optimus Prime commanding that the project be abandoned, but Wheeljack secretly persisted. He developed memory components that increased the Dinobots' intelligence, turning them into valuable, if sometimes unpredictable, members of the Autobot forces. S.O.S. Dinobots

Concealed in Wheeljack's left wrist is a fire suppression system, which no doubt came in handy when one of his devices would blow up in his face.

Perhaps it was because Wheeljack was portrayed with an Italian American accent, that he was ultimately "whacked" in the feature film (see The Sopranos). Arcee pulled his lifeless chassis away from the battle to prevent the Decepticons from desecrating it. What a nice girl.

:(Note: Wheeljack has the distinction of being the first Transformer to appear in an episode of the animated series.)
Wheeljack, Perceptor and Minerva were summoned by Star Saber to save the life of the fallen Ginrai. They succeeded, transforming the former transtector into the mighty Victory Leo.

:(Note: Wheeljack's not-being-deadness is never addressed. Though to Japanese viewers during the original airings, this was not a noticeable discrepancy, as the movie where he died had not been shown in Japan until after Victory had aired. However, the original Movie storyboards show Smokescreen as the dead Autobot next to Windcharger). It is also possible that if Skids was successful with Operation: Distant Thunder then Wheeljack could have survived his apparent demise in the movie via Project Bodyshop.
Binaltech
When the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon attack in the year 2005, Wheeljack headed to Earth to arrange the transplantation of Grimlock's mind into a new Binaltech body. On his return journey to the Autobot's moonbase, however, his shuttle was hijacked by time-tossed Decepticon Ravage, who had begun a plan to alter the course of history. Wheeljack was shown a brief glimpse of the near future - including the deaths of himself and many of his comrades - but managed to escape Ravage's clutches; Ravage himself promptly returned to Cybertron and exhumed the Kronosphere, using it to tip the balance of the decisive battle occurring at that time. Whereas the outcome would have originally favored the Decepticons, leading to their total conquest of Cybertron, Ravage ensured an Autobot victory, altering history and leaving the heroes to face the looming threat of Unicron alone.

Aware that history had been altered, Wheeljack was faced with a dilemma - should he stop Ravage's plan and restore the timestream, even though it would mean the death of many Autobots, including himself? His salvation, he hoped, lay in the GT System, a device that allowed a singular spark to simultaneously control many duplicate bodies. Dubbing his original body the "Alpha Unit," he constructed the "Beta Unit" based on Grimlock's Ford Mustang body, as well as the ominous third "Omega Unit," a mysterious body about which nothing is known.

The subsequent arrival of Unicron prompted the Autobots to initiate "Operation: Distant Thunder," which saw Skids use the chronal warp on Dinobot Island to send Wheeljack's memory data back in time, in hopes of alerting the Autobots in the past and preventing alteration to the timestream. The plan didn't go very well and only wound up throwing the timestream into a severe state of whack, until a mysterious black Optimus Prime appeared and sealed the time portals that had been created. Operation: Distant Thuner had succeeded in preventing the mainline timestream's operation, but had also preserved the Binaltech timeline as its own, distinct divergent universe.
Dreamwave comics continuity
Wheeljack suffers from a mild form of mode attachment, feeling more comfortable in his vehicle mode than robot mode. As a consequence he does his best thinking in vehicle mode, often while attempting something insanely dangerous.

Wheeljack was part of Grimlock's unit, along with Kup and Ironhide. When the Decepticons placed Iacon under siege, Grimlock took his group to Kaon to look for Optimus Prime, who had gone seeking Megatron. While there, they discovered planetary engine turbines that were providing power to a mechaforming process that was destroying Iacon. Arriving, Prime instructed Wheeljack to shut down the engines in a...creative way (it blowed up real good). The group managed to return to Iacon, where Prime halted his order to abandon the planet. The War Within

When Prime and Megatron disappeared during a space bridge explosion, Grimlock broke off from the Autobot army and formed the Lightning Strike Coalition, taking his former subordinates with him. While Kup and the Dynobots attacked the Predacons, Wheeljack and Ironhide hijacked some shuttles carrying raw Energon, making Starscream very angry. That's always a plus. The War Within: The Dark Ages

Wheeljack was one of the engineers that designed and constructed the Ark, and part of the ship's original crew.

In 1986, Ironhide and Ratchet discovered Wheeljack in pieces but functional after an explosion while bug-testing his neutron detonator shell.

:(Note: A version of the events of the Sunbow cartoon episode Autobot Spike appear to have taken place in the time between 1984 and 1998.)

Wheeljack was among the Transformers involved in the Ark II disaster. He survived the explosion of their spacecraft, crashing back to Earth where he and Trailbreaker lay deactivated and frozen within an iceberg until awakened by Optimus Prime. Prime Directive, Part 2

Wheeljack participated in the assault on Lazarus's Canadian Headquarters. When General Hallo's attempt to bomb the Autobots and the Decepticons out of existence instead caused a violent expansion of Megatron's cyber-virus, Wheeljack and Mirage were the first Autobots to free themselves. Prime Directive, Part 4

While Prime took some of the Autobots after Megatron, Wheeljack diagnosed the nature of the cyber-virus, and created a set of anti-viral blasters that used the Autobots' energy to return the converted matter to normal. The intervention of Canada's military force scuttled that plan when they fired into the virus, expanding it beyond the point the Autobots could contain. Prime Directive, Part 5

In response, Wheeljack converted a nearby satellite dish into a giant anti-viral weapon, channeling all of his remaining energy into it. He succeeded in destroying the virus, but was left near death. Prime Directive, Part 6

Six months later, Wheeljack came back online just in time to participate in the short-lived truce with the Deceptions and the assault on Las Vegas to destroy the Keepers. Keepers Trilogy

Later, when Shockwave and Ultra Magnus came to arrest the Autobots as war criminals, Wheeljack was one of the Autobots secretly left behind by Optimus Prime. War and Peace Like most of the rest of that group of Autobots, Wheeljack was beaten to the point of stasis lock by Bruticus some time later and dumped into a nearby swamp. He was dredged out by an EDC task force and repaired.

Wheeljack was also instrumental in the planning and construction of Autobot City.

IDW comics continuity
Wheeljack is part of a detachment of Autobots that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, attempting to foil a Decepticon insurgency. He appears to be continuing in his role of technical scientist and gadgeteer for the Autobot detachment; he builds a device that can interface the SM-40 palmtop computer with the systems aboard the Autobots' Ark-17 spacecraft. Wheeljack, like his fellow Autobots, would come to watch the showdown between Megatron and the Ore-13 powered Starscream. Later, after the incident outside Lebanon, Illinois, he and Jazz were sent to investigate a Sprigfield police impound lot which supposedly held Sunstreaker's remains. Unfortunately, members of the Machination had already arrived with the same purpose in mind, and attacked the bots wielding advanced weaponry eerily similar to their own. Wheeljack escaped mostly unharmed, probably because Jazz took a direct hit from a mortar for him.Escalation (issue 2)

He would get his first taste of real damage in Brasnya facing down Blitzwing and Astrotrain, and eventually the drained form of Megatron. Wheeljack has recently been assigned to work with Hot Rod in rescuing Ironhide, but yet again the Machination has decided to interfere - this time in a confrontation with their army of clones and experimental headmasters.Devastation (issue 2)
: The original Wheeljack toy, released as part of the 1984 series of Autobots, was based on a Diaclone Lancia Stratos Turbo. He comes with two rocket launchers that can fire four projectiles and two clear wings. In robot mode, the rocket launchers and the wings mount onto his shoulder and back respectively. For some reason, Wheeljack's lower arms/hands cannot lock into his upper arms, leaving them hanging at an angle.
:Wheeljack is an Autobot in the Generation 1 continuity family.

(Events from the UK-only comics are in italics.)

Wheeljack escaped mostly unharmed, probably because Jazz took a direct hit from a mortar for him.Escalation (issue 2) He would get his first taste of real damage in Brasnya facing down Blitzwing and Astrotrain, and eventually the drained form of Megatron.

: In 1986, he was made available as a mail-away item (as he was no longer shipping to retail shelves) in multiple offers, including Digital Doom on the Highway to Destruction flier packed with most boxed Transformers toys. He cost $8 and two robot points.

Blitzwing is loud. He likes to think he has a sense of humor, but what he considers funny is, more often than not, offensively cruel. Obnoxious, belligerent, and nasty, he makes even his fellow Decepticons feel uneasy. His anti-social tendencies can relegate Blitzwing to an outsider status. Due to his social isolation, he's able to see the bigger picture; he can see when his teammates are being played by unseen forces. Of course, if he thinks the trap is amusing enough, he might just let it happen anyway.
:Voice Actor: Ed Gilbert (US), Keiichi Nanba (Japan)

For someone as powerful as he is, Blitzwing does not have the best track record when it comes to decision-making. First, he and fellow Triple Changer Astrotrain decided to do away with both Megatron and Starscream and strike out on their own in search of fame, fortune, and energon. While this would normally be considered suicidal, the two Triple Changers somehow pulled it off and were free to finally do whatever it took to wipe out those pesky Autobots once and for all.

The way they chose to do this, however, did not do much to inspire confidence in their abilities. While his partner went off to play with some trains, Blitzwing's personal strategy for victory was to kidnap a football coach under the mistaken impression that the human was some kind of master strategist. Blitzwing brought the Constructicons in on his plan, and used them to build a maze sorrounding the entry to his base/stadium. To Blitzwing's credit, a lot of the Autobots crashed into each other, but soon, the Constructicons demanded a share of the leadership, and then Astrotrain arrived. All three were beaten so quickly by Megatron that it was almost embarrassing, and he crept carefully back to the Decepticon ranks, hoping that nobody would remember what had happened.Triple Takeover

Blitzwing was also present during the infamous assault on Autobot City in 2005, where he was at the head of the first attack. Together with Shrapnel, he battled Hot Rod and Kup at Lookout Mountain, a fight that did not go in his favour (Kup being surprisingly nimble for an old guy). Blitzwing is also shown participating in the general carnage at Autobot City a short time later, and is one of the several Decepticons who ran afoul of Optimus Prime. Unlike his less fortunate comrades, Blitzwing was able to avoid getting run over, and even managed to shoot back a little before Prime beat him, which is more than most Decepticons expect when facing Optimus Prime. In fact, Blitzwing made it through the entire battle more or less intact, which meant he got to ride all the way to Cybertron without anyone trying to kick him out the back door when he wasn't looking. The Transformers: The Movie

When the Quintessons arrived on Chaar to bribe the Decepticon army with promises of energon and revenge, Blitzwing was the only one of his comrades to turn down their offers. He had met their kind before (or at least he thought they seemed familiar to him for some reason) and did not trust them, though he could not remember why. Upon the triumphant retun of Galvatron, Blitzwing was the only Decepticon left to greet him. Later, during an assault on Cybertron, it was Blitzwing who discovered that the Quintessons were lying to Galvatron and plotting to destroy all Transformers (instead of just the Autobots, which Blitzwing had no problems with). He tried to report this to Galvatron, but when he could not convince the Decepticon leader, he turned to Rodimus Prime for help. Together, Blitzwing and Rodimus were able to stop the Sharkticon commando team that had infiltrated Cybertron. Galvatron, unfortunately, suspected that Blitzwing was trying to betray the Decepticons and steal the "Decepticon Matrix of Leadership" for himself and threw the switch the Quintessons' nullifying switch, deactivating Transformers galaxy-wide until Spike Witwicky destroyed it. With the Quintessons' deception revealed, Galvatron attempted to renew hostilities with Rodimus, but Blitzwing drew his weapon and targeted Galvatron, stating that the battle was over for now. Seething, but seeing little alternative, Galvatron accepted and withdrew his forces from Cybertron, but banished Blitzwing from the Decepticon ranks forever. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5

Ironically, Blitzwing had gotten away with actually betraying Megatron, but then managed to get himself branded a traitor and was hurled out of the Decepticons while being perfectly loyal to Galvatron. He would appear again briefly in some crowd scenes, and in the Headmasters animated series, likely as the result of carelessness in production.

It should also be noted that when Rodimus offered Blitzwing a place among the Autobots, Blitzwing did turn it down, but also mentioned his respect for Rodimus. This makes Blitzwing one of the few notable Decepticons (along with Octane, Thundercracker, and Carnivac) who do not seem to have any real hatred for the Autobots.

(Note: In the original script for Five Faces of Darkness, after Blitzwing's banishment, Rodimus extended his offer to Blitzwing a second time, and in this instance, he did not accept, but did not refuse, saying that he would think about it. The later episode, Starscream's Ghost was originally written to feature Blitzwing, but was later re-written to be about the newest Decepticon Triple-Changer, Octane, although there is no explanation offered for why Octane is friendly with the Autobots. It would seem that this would have originally been Blitzwing following up on Rodimus' offer.)

Marvel Comics continuity
Bltizwing, Astrotrain and Octane were commissioned by Ratbat to investigate the loss of his priceless cargo that had arrived on Earth via a low-cost freighter, but hadn't checked in as scheduled. Upon making contact with the crashed ship, Blitzwing and his companions were infected with Scraplets, and began to slowly waste away. Lucky for them, the Autobot Blaster was also infected, and his friends managed to re-discover the strange and wonderous chemical that acted as a cure. In saving Blaster, the Triple Changers were incidentally saved as well.Crater Critters

Blitzwing was later destroyed in Buenos Aires along with the other Triple Changers as they tried to fight an Underbase-empowered Starscream.Dark Star!

Dreamwave comics continuity
Blitzwing participated in Shockwave's assault on Iacon and demonstrated triple-changing abilities. However, after the disappearance of Optimus Prime and Megatron in a space bridge explosion, Blitzwing was captured and imprisoned by the Autobots as a dangerous experiment of Shockwave's. He was freed from Autobase by the Fallen, and presumably released back to the Decepticons after the temporary truce that resulted from the Fallen's defeat. Following the departure of the Ark, Blitzwing served as Shockwave's lieutenant, and appeared to be undergoing some sort of mutation which Shockwave did not fully understand.

Somehow, Blitzwing made his way to Earth, and was among the Decepticons captured and deactivated during Operation Liberation. Despite this, he was not among the Transformers recovered and controlled by Lazarus, but instead ended up back on Cybertron, once more under Shockwave's command. Blitzwing was one of the warriors who accompanied Shockwave to Earth to capture the Earth-bound forces of Optimus Prime and Megatron, and was badly damaged by Grimlock in the battle that ensued. Some time later, Blitzwing was attacked and destroyed by the Predacons on Cybertron. His remains were then examined by an unknown Transformer.

(Note: Blitzwing's history in Dreamwave Comics was rather convoluted and contradictory. His appearance among the captured Decepticons on Earth in Generation 1 is at odds with his later appearances on Cybertron in War and Peace and Micromasters. Furthermore, his earliest chronological appearance in The War Within depicts him as a triple changer, while his appearances in The Dark Ages and Micromasters show him mutating into his triple changer form for the first time. The answers to these conundrums, and the identity of the being who examined his fallen form (though it was likely Sixshot) will remain forever unanswered, due to the bankruptcy and collapse of Dreamwave.)
IDW comics continuity
Blitzwing is part of a Decepticon infiltration unit that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, working to destabilize Earth's governing organizations and create global anarchy. He is assigned along with Skywarp to destroy all traces of the Nebraska operation, including Megatron.

Apparently Megatron forgave Blitzwing for the attempted coup (after nearly destroying him in Nebraska), as he is seen working alongside the Decepticon leader in their Russian operation a few weeks later, but is blasted to bits by Optimus Prime's Roller drone.Escalation (issue 4)

Hardhead is a soldier to his core. A soldier with a stubborn streak a megamile wide. He's stubborn to the point of rejecting outright any path but his own, any idea that goes against his natural instinct or inclination (namely fighting), and any advice he didn't come up with himself. He doesn't talk much, and when he does, it tends to be blunt and terse, if not outright rude. A soldier doesn't waste time on social niceties when there's a war to fight.

Perhaps surprisingly, given his limited social aptitude, Hardhead has found a good companion in Duros, his binary-bonded Nebulan partner, who enjoys warfare just as much as Hardhead does. The two mesh so well, it's been said that theirs may be the best match among all the Autobot-Nebulan teams.
Prior to the Brasnya incident, Hardhead was ordered by Optimus Prime to Earth on the Ark-32 with Hot Rod. The two arrived right in the middle of the battle, although Hot Rod sped away after the facsimile before Hardhead could stop him to report their presence. He engaged in battle with Astrotrain, apparently dealing enough damage to the triple-changer that Blitzwing had to call in reinforcements. When Megatron seemingly defeated Optimus Prime, Hardhead attempted (futilely) to damage him with repeated cannon blasts. He would eventually regroup with his teammates after the battle and was among them during Sixshot's surprise assault on the Ark-19.
Duros transforms into his head, which, when attached into the robot mode neck socket, activates a simplified, spring-loaded tech-spec meter hidden under a panel on his chest.

:In robot mode, Hardhead is unusually tall for a toy of his price point, as the tank basically flips on end and extends to transform. As to be expected, Hardhead has rather limited articulation.
