After Isaac Sumdac was abducted by [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]], [[Sari Sumdac|Sari]] took over leadership of the company. Powell disapproved of having a mere child responsible for the business, especially since she was diverting corporate funds to the search for her father. Powell wouldn't have to deal with her for very long, however: he was able to discover no legal documents referring to a "Sari Sumdac"—no will, birth certificate, adoption papers, Social Security Number, anything. Not only is there no proof she is Sumdac's daughter, from a bureaucratic standpoint, there is no proof she exists. Powell was installed as new CEO of Sumdac Systems, and one of his early decisions was to lock Sari out of Isaac's lab and offices. He then, rather smugly, informed Sari of her "lack of existence". He hired Masterson in the hopes of gaining access to lucrative [[United States Military|military]] contracts, but Masterson wanted a net Autobot to test his Headmasters on. When Masterson body-jacked [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]], he told [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] that he had no idea where Masterson was, but quickly phoned Masterson and warned him not to embarass the company, allowing Optimus to track Masterson down to the docks. *Powell has pointed out that as giant robots from outer space, the Autobots don't have any rights. Thus he believes (and presumably can prove in a court of law) that it's not only fair game to attack them, it's ''legal''. He may rethink his policy if he meets the [[Decepticon]]s...assuming that he doesn't strike a deal with them.

BotCon regular, veteran voice actor, and all-around-crazy-guy [[Scott McNeil]] was once again in attendance at the convention. Fellow ''Beast Wars'' voice actors [[Richard Newman]], [[Blu Mankuma]] and [[Pauline Newstone]] attended for their first BotCon.

Last, but most certainly not least (in fact, maybe greatest), was [[Peter Cullen]], voice of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] both in the [[Generation 1|G1 Cartoon]] and the 2007 film.

[[Chris Ryall]] and [[Dan Taylor]] attended to represent [[IDW Comics]]. [[Simon Furman]], writer of a vast portion of the ''Transformers'' mythos, was also present to discuss his past projects as well as his current projects with IDW.

A majority of the artists who were currently working on Transformers art in an official capacity, including [[Don Figueroa]], [[Alex Milne]], [[Dan Khanna]], [[Jake Isenberg]], [[Drew Eiden]], and [[Marcelo Matere]] were in attendance as well.

FunPub scheduled a large number of events to take place over the course of the convention to keep attendees entertained and informed.

===Wednesday and Thursday===
Wednesday and Thursday were the slowest days of the convention, primarily for the benefit of preregistrants. However, there were a few panels on those days, including the classic "[[MSTF]]" spoofing of Transformers episodes on Thursday night and a Transformer customization seminar on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. (The customization panel cost extra, but the attendees got a badly-painted [[Scrapmetal (Cybertron)|Scrapmetal]] out of it with the option of giving it the [[Cobybot]] head.)

===Friday===
Friday was the first day the convention began in earnest, though it was open to preregistrants only.

Major events included...

*A voice actor panel with Blu Mankuma, Scott McNeil, Richard Newman, and Pauline Newstone.

*A panel with the Hasbro design team, where the design process was explained and the shelved design sketches of [[Classics (2006)|Classics]] [[Cosmos (G1)]] were shown.

*A panel with Simon Furman.

*Autograph sessions with the ''Beast Wars'' voice actors.

*A midnight screening of the then-newly remastered Sony 20th Anniversary edition of ''[[The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|The Transformers: The Movie]]''.

*The first round of "Faction Feud," a trivia competition whose rules bore no resemblance to Family Feud whatsoever.

In addition, the dealer room was open from 2PM to 5PM.

The majority of the Classics line was shown, as well as a preview of the special features for the Sony TFTM DVD, and a "sizzle reel" for the 2007 Transformers movie. It was during this panel that the design team professed that they were huge fans of the Cincinnati Bengals.

*Another Voice Actor panel.

*A roundtable on the Transformers Club run by [[Brian Savage]].

*A Q&A panel featuring Peter Cullen.

*The annual dinner.

'''Depth Charge''' was once an [[Imperial Peace Marshal]], whose territory was completely destroyed, and every robot under his protection slaughtered, by the malicious entity known as [[Rampage (BW)|Protoform X]]. Since that fateful day, Depth Charge has lived for no other purpose than to enact justice (or vengeance) on X. His single-mindedness makes him a relentless hunter, stopping at nothing to prevent X from taking any more lives. His quest has more than taken its toll on Depth Charge, though {{m-}} whatever he was before, he is now a joyless, hollow shell of a being. While he sometimes expresses sympathy for other beings and lends aid to his fellow Maximals, Depth Charge has clearly been consumed by his mission, and the destruction of Protoform X is now more important to him than the original reasons behind his quest.

Depth Charge was a Peace Marshal stationed on [[Colony Omicron]] when Protoform X broke free and went on a rampage. As the colony's sole survivor, Depth Charge made hunting down "X" his only mission in life. Pursuing Protoform X to places throughout the Universe (including [[Starbase Rugby]]) Depth Charge successfully captured Protoform X, and turned him over to the [[Maximal Elder]]s. The Elders decided that Protoform X should be placed in stasis aboard the [[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]] and dumped on an uninhabited world.

Knowing that "[[Optimus Primal (BW)|Primal]] would screw it up", Depth Charge continued to monitor the Universe for any trace of Protoform X. The sensors on his [[Starhopper]] picked up traces of Protoform X just as he was pulled through a temporal anomaly; the strange radiation of the wormhole-like disturbance sucked in his ship and Transmetalized his superstructure. The resulting crash left him on prehistoric Earth with a Transmetal Manta Ray body, and put him right in the middle of the Beast Wars.

Depth Charge became a wild card for the Maximals. Although against the Predacons, and shocked by the presence of the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'', Depth Charge initially refused to follow Primal's orders. They never knew if he could be counted on, as his pursuit of Protoform X, now known as [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] always took precedent. His new body gave him the Cybershark (not the fellow [[Cybershark|Maximal]]) drone, which he used to track Rampage and later, inadvertently, [[Dinobot 2]]. His single-minded obsession usually ended up getting the Maximals in trouble. Once he outright refused to help the other Maximals in a mission to recover their Sentinel defense software, which resulted in its [[Changing of the Guard|ultimate loss]].

However, Depth Charge would comply with the Maximals from time to time. When Depth Charge was called forth to stop Megatron from launching the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'' he followed the order instantly, for even he knew how important it was to stop Megatron. Ironically it was Rampage who found Depth Charge on this mission and forced him into battle. They fought, their battle intensified by nearby Energon crystals throughout the terrain.

As Depth Charge attempted to shove an Energon spike into Rampage's spark, Rampage released Depth Charge's hands and laughed maniacally as he allowed his rival to destroy the both of them. His reasons for this are unknown. Some fans believe Rampage was using Depth Charge's own obsession with him to manipulate and corrupt him, with this scenario the ultimate test to see just how far the Maximal would go to claim "justice" over him. It may also be that Rampage simply decided he wished to be free of Megatron's control.

This incident was also the only time in the Beast Wars when a Maximal killed a Predacon (not for a lack of trying).

On the extensive highway system of [[Detroit]], the [[Autobot]]s are aiding in the repair efforts after their titanic battle with the [[Decepticon]]s. Unfortunately the residents of the city don't seem to ''understand'' that the road system was blown to rubble by the battle, and are upset that the Autobots are holding up traffic. Optimus Prime heads over to address their concerns, and they flee in fear. Bulkhead comments that he liked it better when they were heroes, to which Ratchet retorts that they still are. All of them wonder what the heck has happened that Bumblebee isn't there helping them.

There's no reason for them to be jealous though, as the little yellow bot has been pressed into service as Sari's secretary at [[Sumdac Tower]]. The little girl realizes that there's a lot of pressure in running a business, and feels sorry for her father's having had to deal with this. Porter C. Powell is less patient, and expresses a fairly cold attitude towards her "wasting" company funds on locating the genius who designs all the company's myriad robotic technologies. Sari yells at him that as long as the company's name is Sumdac she's in charge, cuts him off, and tells Bumblebee to hold her calls. Bumblebee tells the "Boss Lady" sure, but points to the TV, showing an unidentified flying object headed for Detroit, saying she might want to look at that.

Spotting it, the Autobots speed to the scene, only to be met with some justified resentment by Captain Fanzone. However they are allowed to pass once the [[Elite Guard's ship|ship]] is revealed to be crewed by Autobots. Sentinel Prime, Jazz, and Ultra Magnus step out of the ship, while Optimus Prime and company walk up the gangplank, giving Magnus a salute. The [[Supreme Commander]] orders a force field thrown up to quarantine the entire area from organics. Jazz is interested in interacting with the locals, but quickly loses his interest when Sentinel Prime warns that they'll spit slime that will melt him down.

Sentinel is assigned to decontaminate the long-lost Autobot crew, a task he takes to with relish until he is interrupted by Jazz for overdoing it. Released, the Autobots are informed that the [[Cybertron Elite Guard|Elite Guard]] have come to retrieve the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]]. Optimus explains that it was dispersed in the battle with the Decepticons, a fact that Sentinel accuses him of lying about, saying there is no evidence of the Decepticons being on the planet. Ratchet says that Optimus is a hero for keeping the AllSpark out of Megatron's hands, while Bulkhead nearly comes to blows with Sentinel after the out-of-line guardsman says that Optimus is anything but a hero. Ultra Magnus orders the Autobots to calm down and tells Optimus to take him and and Sentinel to where the AllSpark was dispersed, though he insists that Optimus Prime's crew remain with Jazz until they return. The two Elite Guardsmen have some very unsubtle [[alternate mode]]s, chosen by Sentinel (Magnus is a military transport and Sentinel is a monster truck with a snow plow), and damage some cars near the ship as they [[roll out]]. Optimus tries to instruct them on the finer points of traffic laws, but Sentinel rams him aside without any regards for driver safety. He pays for this by driving off a damaged bridge and crashing into the ground below.

Elsewhere, the Decepticons have holed themselves up in an underground mine with carbon deposits to hide them from the Autobots' sensors. Lugnut wants to go topside and fight, but his arm falls off mid-rant. Besides, Megatron has other priorities: the conquest of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Although Blitzwing thinks that the three of them conquering Cybertron is crazy, Megatron has a plan. He says that the reason they lost the [[Great War]]s were due to the AllSpark and the Autobots' [[space bridge]], but Megatron was able to download a partial schematic from the ''[[Ark (Animated)|Ark]]'' before his defeat. A completed space bridge would allow the Decepticons to teleport into Cybertron and conquer the planet from the inside. The rest of the space bridge's schematics, however, would have to be reverse-engineered by Isaac Sumdac, who is still the Decepticons' prisoner. Sumdac says that he doesn't know anything about teleportation, but a malfunctioning service drone gets him to shut up. Megatron blasts the drone and discovers that a piece of the AllSpark is embedded in its circuitry. This gives Megatron hope that the AllSpark was not entirely destroyed and could still be salvaged...

At a Sumdac Systems manufacturing plant, an assembly line building police drones has been embedded with a piece of the AllSpark, and the drones begin to go haywire. Powell tells Sari what is happening, but refuses to do anything about it. Sari decides to free the Autobots, using [[Sari Sumdac's key|her key]] to move through the shield and get onto the ship. Tripping an alarm, Sari is soon confronted by Jazz, who tries to coax her off the ship without provoking her. Realizing Jazz is afraid of her, Sari scares the [[slag (slang)|slag]] out of the poor bot. Optimus's crew arrive and explain that Sari is harmless. Sari tells them what's going on at the plant, but Jazz says they need to stay with him. Bumblebee says that Magnus didn't specify where, and Jazz, wanting to try out his stylish alternate mode, goes with them to the plant.

On [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|Dinobot Island]], Optimus warns Sentinel and Magnus about the [[Dinobot (Animated)|Dinobot]]s, who take that moment to jump out, but Sentinel is unworried. Grimlock's [[Transformation|transformation]] and [[energo-sword]] are a little more impressive, especially as they manage to force back Sentinel Prime, even through his shield. Ultra Magnus uses his hammer to call down lightning and scare away the Dinobots, while Sentinel appears to have learned nothing.

Arriving at the plant, the police drones attack the Autobots. Jazz shows off his [[Metallikato]] skills, and Bulkhead smashes and smashes, but there is just no end to the drones. Magnus and the Primes arrive to provide backup, but Sentinel thinks that they should abort rather than risk organic contamination. Optimus, Prowl, and Jazz force their way into the plant and get Sari to a control console, into which she places her key, shutting down the assembly line, and Magnus uses his hammer to destroy the rest of the drones. Unfortunately, the key is stuck. Sentinel Prime says that he'll see Optimus tried for insubordination and high treason for destroying the AllSpark, but Optimus finally tells Sentinel to shove it in his hard drive, reminding him they are of equal [[Prime (rank)|rank]]. Using his axe, Prime destroys the console and discovers that the key was attached to a piece of the AllSpark. Examining it, Ultra Magnus accepts Optimus Prime's story. Sentinel still tries to badmouth Optimus, saying he's a liar, but Ultra Magnus finally puts Sentinel in his place, saying Optimus has demonstrated strategic thinking, determination, and loyalty towards his comrades{{m-}}all qualities that Sentinel Prime could use.

He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the [[Maximal]]s and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret voice commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apparently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron snuck aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realizing he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[Transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a Transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he intended to ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan I]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure, transforming his body into a more powerful form. The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Megatron did not rest. He went on to [[Transmetal driver|reverse-engineer alien technology]], gained by means unknown, to create the [[Transmetal#Transmetal 2|Transmetal 2]] process and create himself a loyal clone of Dinobot. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}} He also worked towards taking control of Optimus & temporarily seize the new Maximal base, allowing him to enter the Ark again. Wanting to replicate the effect Optimus Prime's spark had on Primal, he deliberately took the spark of the original Megatron and placed it in his body. Even this power was useless when [[Tigerhawk]] arrived and casually destroyed the Predacon base. {{storylink|Other Victories}} Desperate once again, Megatron investigated the now-deceased Tarantulas's base for anything of value—and found the legendary Decepticon battleship, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]], rebuilt and with Transwarp capabilities. Bringing it out of the ocean depths, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 1}}

First, however, he planned to annihilate the entire Ark rather than simply Optimus Prime—an act Tarantulas had early planned that would've wiped out Decepticon descendants as well as Autobots. (Taking G1 Megatron's spark with him would have most likely altered time as well) In this final battle, Megatron was quoting heavily from the [[Covenant of Primus]] holy texts and declared himself the "Alpha and Omega" that prophesied, drunk off his own power; it's possible he believed the resulting timestorm wouldn't affect him as it would the rest of his race.

Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. The Nemesis crashed a second time and thus preserved history. Almost immediately after his transformation into dragon form, Megatron detected a temporal breach. Having his troops ambush the Maximals (who had also detected), he attempted to reach the time-traveller ([[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor]]) and gain access to the future, not caring what would happen if he took the original Megatron's spark with him. In the process, he encountered the Dark Essence and almost became a willing vessel for it, until it realised Windrazor would be easier to control. After dispatching [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] to oversee the installation of [[Sentinel]] into the [[Darkside]], Megatron was attacked by [[Magmatron (BW)|Magmatron]], who had been assigned to arrest him by the [[Tripredacus Council]]. Although Megatron proved more than a match for the experienced Predacon general individually, he was ambushed and paralyzed by [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] and [[Drill Bit (BW)|Drill Bit]]. When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from Vehicons who immediately attacked them with canisters of a gas that infected them with the virus. The fully-Transmetal among them "devolved" into their original beast modes but were able to keep moving and escape. The remaining two, [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] and [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] (who never received any form of upgrade on earth), were instead paralyzed and quickly overtaken. The escaped Maximals would have succumbed to the virus eventually if not for the [[Oracle]] [[reformatting]] them. This was the beginning of Megatron's undoing, for their new [[technorganic]] bodies were both immune to the virus and (while in beast mode) invisible to Vehicon sensors. Megatron's first resulting change in strategy was to imbue three Vehicons with captured sparks so they could think on their feet in battle. The original personalities of these "[[Vehicon general|general]]s" were deeply buried under shell programs, which allowed Megatron to use sparks of the Maximals' former allies. Thus, if the Maximals discovered who they really were, they would be reluctant to destroy them. The recently-captured Silverbolt and Rhinox were made into [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] and [[Tankor (BM)|Tankor]], respectively. The third general, [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]], was created from the Predacon [[Waspinator]] for reasons that remain opaque.

Megatron considered using the same technology on himself, transferring his own spark to a "pure" Vehicon body. But he decided it not worth the risk to expose his spark, however briefly.

Rhinox eventually awakened and went rogue, planning a grand scheme to usurp Megatron's dominance, but Megatron effortlessly seized control of his traitor-general's evil plan at the last minute & almost wiped out all resistance with the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]. At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, Megatron won and began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful and planning to become both the new Matrix and the new core consciousness of Cybertron. However, he'd made his old mistake—leaving Optimus alive (to make him watch his "ascension") instead of killing him. Both Megatron and Optimus Primal awoke inside a bizarre temple-like spaceship which was hurtling through space. Neither had any memory of who they were or how they got there, only their own names and a feeling of discomfort between one another. The pair went about investigating the ship in search of answers. While Megatron's memory was lost, his personality remained mostly intact: he was more concerned with seizing control of the ship before Primal did in order to gain the upper hand.

They eventually found a data log and discovered that their sparks had been taken and they were reborn into new bodies (unbeknownst to them, bodies identical to their original Earth forms). However, their memories were intentionally not uploaded into their new bodies. While searching the log they discovered that the ship's main power source was a [[Golden Disk]] lodged within a giant pillar. Megatron immediately raced to obtain the Disk and Primal followed him. The closer they got to the disk the more the ship attempted to thwart their advance by manipulating its atmosphere conditions.

Once they reached the chamber the ship's environment suddenly morphed to that of a decaying planet littered with the corpses of robots. The corpses came to life and began shambling toward them, intent on eating their sparks. They made short work of the zombies, leaving Megatron to obtain the Golden Disk and Primal with a feeling that he shouldn't entirely trust Megatron.

From another dimension beyond time and space, [[Primus]] recognized that something was amiss and sent one of his messengers to meet Primal and Megatron within the spaceship.

When Megatron was defeated by Nightscream, the spirit of Rhinox attempted to act as a spirit guide and redeem the tyrant. Two projectiles stored in his wings can be fired from a spring-loaded launcher inside his dragon's mouth.

Sentinel Prime took Optimus and [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Elita-1]] on a mission looking for an old Decepticon warship, hoping to get all the [[energon]] stored within. However, they ran into a pack of massive arachnids. Sentinel Prime tried to hold them off long enough for Optimus and Elita to escape. When he came across a ship that Optimus and Elita had found, Optimus had to drag him away from the exploding energon, forcing them to leave Elita-1 behind. Optimus Prime's radar couldn't find Elita's energy signature, and he assumed that she was dead. A furious Sentinel blamed Optimus Prime for what happened, even though this whole disaster had been ''his'' idea. Jerk. {{storylink|Along Came a Spider}}

Years later, he was still a jerk. When Optimus Prime rang up the Cybertron Elite Guard to tell them of the Decepticons in pursuit, he sneered that a screw-up like Optimus wasn't worth the attention of Ultra Magnus. Later, the Elite Guard visited Earth to take the Allspark. When [[Jazz (Animated)|Jazz]] decided to take a closer look at the humans, Sentinel warned that they could spew out slime that melts through armor plating. (He was either being a jerk again, or someone told him about [[Prometheus Black|Meltdown]].) He decontaminated Optimus Prime's crew after setting a force field around the ship. When he heard that they'd defeated the Decepticons, he didn't believe Optimus, almost causing a fight between him and [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]]. Sentinel boasted to Ultra Magnus that he had taken the initiative and scanned some "typical" Earth vehicles so they would not draw undue attention. He had, in fact, scanned massive, destructive vehicles for them both. En route to [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|Dinobot Island]], Sentinel further evidenced how subtlety obviously isn't his strong point by driving through a blockade and off an overpass still under construction. When he, Optimus and Magnus arrived, they encountered the Dinobots, and Sentinel began to attack, believing their technology was primitive. The Dinobots' transformation caught him off-guard. They then went back to the city to take care of malfunctioning police drones. Sentinel started to act all high and mighty again, but Optimus ignored it, saying that Sentinel was on my turf now. Even when shown proof of the AllSpark not being destroyed, Sentinel's attitude did not change. He was thus rather surprised when Ultra Magnus said that Optimus had characteristics that Sentinel himself could stand to learn. {{storylink|The Elite Guard}}

* Sentinel Prime's shield-tossing fighting style is a fairly direct reference to [[Captain America]].
* In "[[The Elite Guard]]", it is revealed that the "Prime" in his and Optimus's name is a designation of rank, so despite Optimus being an academy washout, he's still Sentinel's equal. This no doubt irritates Sentinel quite a bit.
* Sentinel Prime's blue coloration and especially pronounced chin really make him look like [[wikipedia: Tick (comics)|The Tick]]. He's even voiced by Townsend Coleman, who provided the voice of the Tick in his 1990s animated series. At the minute, we don't know if the character was designed to look like the Tick and the casting was done based on that, or if the casting of Coleman prompted the Tick-style design, or some other combination of factors, but its pretty evident that the writers are working with it, having him utter silly Tick-esque lines like "Energon-y goodness!"
* This is the first time the name "Sentinel Prime" has been used outside the comics.

On a mission, Optimus and [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Elita 1]] accompanied [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]] to a forbidden organic planet in search of a lost [[Decepticon]] ship rumored to be rich in [[Energon]]. After finding the planet to be infested with giant spiders, the trio finally decided to leave, but their retreat was not easy. Though Optimus and Elita found the Decepticon ship and its coveted [[energon cube]]s, they were forced to escape when spiders surrounded them. However, Elita was left behind, presumed destroyed in an energon explosion. Sentinel Prime was furious and blamed Optimus for her death. {{storylink|Along Came a Spider}}

Some time after this dark moment, Prime either abandoned or flunked the [[Autobot Academy]] and eventually found himself leading a small space bridge repair crew a thousand stellar cycles later. Prime and his crew came across the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]] while repairing a [[Space Bridge]] and brought the artifact aboard their ship. During transport, they were discovered by the [[Decepticons]], and [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] came after them. He proved too strong to take head on (in spite of [[Starscream (Animated)|his subordinate]] planting a bomb on his chassis), but when the Autobot ship neared [[Earth]], Prime knocked Megatron overboard. The Autobots stayed in stasis for the next 50 years until they were accidentally awakened by an apparent intruder. Optimus and the Autobots took on Earth vehicles as alternate modes in an attempt to assimilate with what they believed to be the local dominant culture. Prime and his team were able to dispatch a bio-mechanical insectoid that was attacking Detroit. They were hailed as heroes for it.

Over the next several weeks, the Autobots got to learn human culture and and customs, doing their best to prevent disasters and save lives. Eventually, Starscream came for the AllSpark, and Optimus found that the schemer could pack quite a punch. The Autobot officer was still able to keep Starscream from getting the artifact, though at the cost of his life. However, he was quickly revived by [[Sari Sumdac]] and her AllSpark-influenced key. Later, the Autobots helped rebuild parts of Detroit that were destroyed in their battle with Starscream. {{storylink|Transform and Roll Out!}}

Unfortunately for Optimus, he had gained a reputation outside of Earth's atmosphere—not as a hero, but as the slayer of Megatron. The Decepticon [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] placed a large bounty on his head, and pretty soon, [[Lockdown]] came to collect. He captured Prime and stole his axe and grapplers. Fortunately, Ratchet saved him, finally getting the old bot to open up more. {{storylink|The Thrill of the Hunt}}

During the Autobots' first [[Halloween]] on Earth, the Decepticon [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] showed up and kidnapped Sari. When Optimus Prime tried to fight her, she dodged all his moves, as she had trained with him. Since the dawn of the [[Transformers brand]], a variety of unconnected media has conspired to create multiple [[Continuity|continuities]], even within individual [[franchise]]s. The most famous such continuity split is the divergence of the original [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|cartoon]] and [[Generation 1 (Marvel comic)|comic]], which contributed sometimes similar but ultimately irreconcilable versions of ''[[Generation 1]]''. While the most prominent continuities are well known, there exist many '''"micro-continuities"''': continuities about which only very limited information is available, yet which manage in that small space to be incompatible with the major continuities.

Although all officially produced fiction is [[canon]] for some continuity or another, the significance of these "micro-continuities" is a matter of individual fans' tastes and [[personal canon]]s.

== Limited fictions ==

Continuities that exist in a very small number of works that may share an apparent single continuity, such as the [[Ladybird Books|Ladybird]] or [[Find Your Fate]] books. Some continuities may even appear in only a single isolated work, such as the ''[[Transformers Beast Wars: Transmetals]]'' video game.

Although usually small and insignificant in the wider scheme of things, such tales can contain interesting or unique takes on certain characters or situations—for example, providing actual stories in which [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] spent a prolonged period as opposing leaders, a status quo hinted at by much of the lead-in and post-movie product advertising but which was ultimately never realized in the major fictions.

===Prose stories===
Probably the most underdeveloped medium in Transformers fiction, prose stories are considered to be offshoots from their parent continuities (as is often the case with the expanded universes of even prolifically novelized franchises like ''Star Trek''). However, the prose stories that were included in the [[Marvel UK]] annuals are a notable exception, as they are usually treated as part of UK continuity.

The Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books are, by their very nature, micro-continuities (or, if you want to be pedantic, they contain ''multiple'' "nano"-continuities within them), since the various outcomes frequently involve the deaths of major characters.

The success of [[Dreamwave]] inspired a small, short-lived boom in ''Transformers'' prose fiction. The [[Keepers Trilogy]] was [[author intent|intended]] to be set in the Dreamwave continuity, but as Dreamwave was not really involved in their publication and subsequent Dreamwave comics made no explicit reference to them, it is a matter of [[personal canon|taste]] whether the trilogy is part of the Dreamwave-verse proper or is a micro-continuity offshoot.

The prose anthology book ''[[Transformers Legends]]'' is more cut-and-dried at first glance. The foreword by editor David Cian explicitly states that the short stories in the anthology do ''not'' have canonical status in their respective continuities, and are "what-if" tales. For some of the stories, such as "[[Paddles (story)|Paddles]]", "[[Fire in the Dark]]", and "[[Lonesome Diesel]]", it is quite clear from their inconsistency with pre-existing continuities that they are micro-continuities.

However, other stories in the volume (such as "[[Singularity Ablyss]]", "[[Parts]]", "[[A Meeting of Minds]]", and "[[Redemption Centre]]") fit nicely into their respective continuities and (were it not for the editor's caveat) could easily be canon. [[Personal canon|It is thus debatable]] whether these stories are also mere micro-continuity offshoots or something more.

== Implied continuities ==

While never truly represented by any narrative fiction, some micro-continuities arise as the result of discrepancies between the toy lines and characters' portrayals elsewhere. In ''Generation 1'' this was often limited to individual characters' appearances varying drastically between toy and cartoon (and, by extension, most other media). Prominent examples of this are [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] and [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]].

Implied continuities can also include discrepancies in on-package [[bio]]s, such as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] being described as merely "Decepticon City Commander" and possessing a lower rank than his unspecified superiors (not to mention his being the reformatted [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] is not even alluded to, likely to avoid spoiling the movie). A more striking example of such differences implying whole continuities into existence occurs in ''[[Beast Wars]]'' and ''[[Beast Machines]]'' (see below.)

===Bio-only continuities===

Some toys exist in a complete continuity vacuum; the only indications as to the nature of the universe they inhabit that can be gleaned are from their on-package bios.

Japanese [[exclusives]] are particularly prone to this, especially some of their more bizarre cross-promotion toys such as [[Pepsi Convoy]], the Takara Sport Label [[Optimus Prime (G1) toys|Optimus Prime]] and [[Megatron (G1) toys|Megatron]] figures, who transform into miniature Nike sneakers, or Takara Music Label's [[Optimus Prime (G1) toys|Optimus Prime]] or MP3 player [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]. Is one seriously to consider these characters can fit into a mainstream version of [[Generation 1|G1 continuity]] as their bios imply, or does one relegate them to weird little micro-continuities in which Optimus has an insatiable desire for signing endorsement deals? [[Personal canon|YOU decide.]]

====Machine Wars====
The ''[[Machine Wars]]'' toy line is the best example of bio-only implied continuity as, fairly uniquely, it represents an entire line (albeit a ''very'' small one) which possesses no official fiction in any form save for the toy bios, in which story hints are limited mainly to the existence of [[Megaplex]] and a few peculiarities about [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]]. Given the lack of any other story material, whether the differences/character development with Thundercracker imply a whole new micro-continuity or are viewed as new developments within an existing continuity falls solely to personal preference.

=== Beast Toylines vs. Shows ===
Unlike G1, the [[Beast Era]] has not featured major divergent continuities, leading (at least for most of its existence) to a fairly unified canon.

However, due to the high cost and time constraints of a fully CG-animated series, both [[Mainframe]] ''Beast'' shows were limited in the number of characters that could be included. They are fairly unique amongst the Transformers franchises in ''not'' featuring an encyclopedic inclusion of nearly every available toy as a character in the show. As a result, the main ''[[Beast Wars]]'' and ''[[Beast Machines]]'' fiction-depicted continuities feature only a limited portion of the overall number of toys/characters created, and furthermore the tight storytelling and premises of the shows leave little room for their inclusion in an "off camera" capacity (although see below: "When is a micro-continuity not a micro-continuity?"). An additional problem in ''[[Beast Wars]]'' is that several characters, such as [[Waspinator]] and [[Rhinox]], were featured as Transmetal toys, while in the cartoon they did not receive these upgrades, thus creating further discrepancy. (Note that IDW's ''[[Beast Wars Sourcebook]]'' attempts to provide a rational for these missing transmetal bodies, as well as the bat and crocodile forms of Primal and Megatron, [[Beast Wars timeline (IDW)|at least in terms of their own version of continuity]].)

One can either presuppose that the toy line ''itself'' implies a micro-continuity in which the full number of toy characters coexisted, or one could attempt to reconcile these characters with an already existent micro-continuity: that of the pre-cartoon on-package bios and mini-comic...

==== The "G1 Beast Wars" ====
On-package bios for the first waves of ''Beast Wars'' indicated that the Beast Wars took place on modern-day, human-inhabited, industrialized Earth, and that [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] were just G1 [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] in the latest of their long series of reformatted bodies. This storyline was showcased in one installment of "limited fiction," a comic which was included with the bat Optimus and alligator Megatron 2-pack.

Although later bios would reflect the universe established by the ''Beast Wars'' cartoon, these first-series materials create a micro-continuity that features a bat-mode Optimus Prime(al) leading troops that include the likes of both [[Rattrap]] and [[Armordillo]] against an alligator-mode Megatron and his minions, such as [[Tarantulas]] and [[Iguanus]], stalking their secret genetic labs and duking it out for the fate of modern, urban Earth. Whether one presumes that Optimus and Megatron subsequently "upgraded" to their gorilla and T-Rex modes (the comic certainly implies that Megatron plans to), or if one chooses to then include later waves of show, non-show, and even Transmetal characters is open to debate.

==== Crawling with Maximals ====
By the same token, the ''[[Beast Machines (toyline)|Beast Machines toyline]]'' contained many toy-only characters—[[Maximal]], [[Vehicon]], and "[[Dinobots (BM)|other]]"—who were again fairly incompatible with the tightly plotted continuity of the cartoon that presents the dominant canon. A similar "implied continuity" can be postulated that would include these extra characters in an alternate version of events that supported a larger cast.

== When is a micro-continuity not a micro-continuity? ==

There are some continuities which have attempted to explain retroactively the presence (or rather absence) of the non-show characters in both ''Beast Wars'' and ''Beast Machines''. [[3H Productions|3H]]'s ''[[Universe (comic)|Wreckers]]'' comics and associated projects attempted to fill out much of the ''Beast Machines'' gaps in an arguably workable fashion, while [[IDW Publishing|IDW]] has tackled virtually every toy-only ''[[Beast Wars (toyline)|Beast Wars]]'' character in ''[[Beast Wars]]'': ''[[The Gathering]]''. However, these two approaches contradict each other, and neither have (as yet) provided expansive storylines. Whether one deems these stories to be part of the larger show-based canon (despite contradictions), individual "complimentary" continuities, or indeed just larger-than-usual micro-continuities themselves is, like most things, up to the individual fan's taste and [[personal canon]].

By the same token, the comic-book fictions for [[Generation 2 (Marvel Comics)|Generation 2]] and [[Classics (2006)|Transformers Classics]] present divergent timelines from the U.S./U.K. [[Generation 1 (comic)|Marvel comic]], each representing full toy lines. Compare to [[Machine Wars]] which is apparently a continuation of G1 but may or may not exist (later) in the same timeline as G2. Again, whether examples such as these of divergent offshoots of larger continuities should be classed as micro-continuities (in spite of toylines and many issues of fiction) or be included with their "parent" continuities as branched extensions is, again, a matter of taste and [[personal canon]].
