The [[Decepticon]]s are building engines into the side of a comet in order to alter its course and crash it on top of [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]. As they fire up the engines, a group of [[Autobot]]s close in, led there by [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]. The Autobots attack, much to [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s dismay. The [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] form [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], who is promptly flattened when [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] drops on him in ship mode. In the ensuing battle, the engines are destroyed, and the comet is sent hurtling towards a small planet, which Perceptor reports is inhabited.

The Autobots attempt unsuccessfully to stop the comet before Galvatron again orders his men to engage their foe. While Galvatron and [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] are grappling, waves of sound energy destroy the comet and cause both groups of Transformers to plummet to the planet's surface. In a nearby city, three aliens are having a disagreement. One of them, [[Allegra]], storms out, saying that she's going to her retreat.

The Transformers recover from their crash, wondering what hit them. [[Soundwave (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Soundwave]] describes it as the most perfect harmony ever, but Galvatron is more interested in its destructive power. Broadside breaks up the discussion by punching Galvatron, and the fight resumes. As the Constructicons form Devastator again, Perceptor blows the giant apart with one shot from his cannon. Galvatron and Soundwave depart in search of the source of the harmony they heard earlier, but Ultra Magnus spots them leaving and takes Broadside and [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] in pursuit. Perceptor reflects that unless the trio are swift, there might not be much of them left.

Broadside swiftly passes the two Decepticons and overflies the city, which Blaster realises is laid out like a musical harmony. Magnus and Blaster meet with [[Basso Profundo]], leader of the planet [[Eurythma]], but Basso refuses to help them, believing that the harmony is all his people need to protect themselves. He drops a hint that Allegra might be able to help them, a fact overheard by Galvatron and Soundwave, who are spying outside. As the three Autobots go in search of Allegra, the Decepticons drop a bridge on them. To make sure, Galvatron blasts the wreckage, and the pair fly off to find Allegra.

Basso watches the two Decepticons leave, and fellow [[Eurythman]] [[Zebop Skandana]] uses a harmony to help the Autobots out of the rubble. Blaster realises that the Zebop was creating part of the harmony which originally blew the Autobots out of space, and Zebop says he's sympathetic to their cause and will help them find Allegra.

The two Decepticons meet Allegra, offering to help her overthrow Basso in return for the secret of the harmony. She obliges and Soundwave records it, but to Galvatron's rage, it turns out that she is only one part of the harmony; Basso and Zebop make up the other two thirds. Still, when the Autobots arrive with Zebop, Soundwave is testing the part of the harmony he has by destroying a rock. The Autobots set up an ambush, but Zebop is so distressed by the fact that Allegra is working with the Decepticons that he gives away their position. Galvatron starts firing, and Zebop takes refuge in Ultra Magnus's cab. Soundwave begins battering the Autobots with the harmony. When Zebop counters with ''his'' part of the harmony, Soundwave promptly records it and uses the resulting two-thirds of the harmony to devastating effect.

With the Autobots apparently gone, Galvatron terminates the alliance with Allegra. She attempts to attack them with her part of the harmony, but Soundwave retaliates, knocking her out. The Autobots climb out of their hole in time to prevent Galvatron from terminating the Eurythman, but during the resulting fight, Blaster and Soundwave struggle and accidentally fall on Zebop. Galvatron grabs his minion and departs, leaving Allegra cradling Zebop in her arms. Though the Autobots believe he's had it, Allegra uses a harmony to revive him. The Autobots leave for the city.

Back at the landing site, the rest of the Autobots and Decepticons are still fighting. Hot Spot voices his hope that Magnus, Blaster and Broadside hurry. The Eurythmans have spotted the battle, and Basso uses an amplifier to direct a destructive harmony at it. [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] is forced to disassemble, but the two factions fight on. Basso is depressed, and his aide points out he needs Allegra and Zebop to complete the harmony. Arriving, Soundwave begins playing two-thirds of the harmony, shaking the city and provoking Basso into using the third part again, which Soundwave promptly records. He is subsequently able to use the complete harmonic weapon to attack the city. Pleased, Galvatron announces their next targets are Metroplex and then [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].

Ultra Magnus's party arrives back at the city to find it devastated and their fellow Autobots badly damaged. The Eurythmans are able to repair Perceptor and the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] with a harmony, and the Autobots set off for Earth.

Galvatron and Soundwave attack Metroplex with the harmony, but the Autobots soon arrive with the three Eurythmans, who nullify Soundwave's weapon with anti-sound. Blaster grabs Soundwave and uses his buttons to erase the harmony from Soundwave's tapes. Despite Galvatron raging that he hasn't ordered a retreat, the Decepticons flee anyway. The Autobots return the Eurythmans to their world, where Ultra Magnus tells them they need to learn to live in harmony.

"Carnage in C-Minor" is infamous among the [[fandom]] for the sheer number of, and particularly ''glaring'' nature of, animation errors in this episode. Among the more prominent are the following:

* Throughout the entire episode, Broadside is drawn with a previously [[:Image:BroadsideCarnage.jpg|discarded]] [[character model]].

* Devastator is the exact same size as Soundwave during the start of the first battle.

* Devastator also appears before he forms later in the battle.

* While the Autobots are shooting at the meteor, they are so badly drawn that they appear to have only one leg each, left arms starting from the elbows, and enormous heads...and Superion is tiny.

*When Bonecrusher orders the formation of Devastator, he's wearing an Autobot insignia. See also the continuity error below.

* When the Constructicons form Devastator for the second time, the first shot shows four Constructicons forming the legs and the torso. The second shot shows three robots forming the arms and upper torso. This means that [[Devastator (ROTF)|''seven'' Constructicons formed Devastator.]]

* After watching Galvatron and Soundwave leave, Ultra Magnus dispatches Hook and Scrapper—by picking them up in his hands and bashing them together. Magnus is supposed to be big, but not ''that'' big. (It's ''possible'' that the animators used the [[toy]]s for reference, unaware that the cartoon [[scale]] traditionally doesn't match the toys' scale in this case.)

* Blaster, Ultra Magnus and Zebop are shown hanging onto Broadside while he flies around. Sometimes, the shots make them appear tiny or not to be hanging onto Broadside at all. (One wonders why Zebop doesn't just ride in Broadside's cockpit, as he does for the trip to Earth.)

* Soundwave points out that Zebop is standing in the distance, while Galvatron says that "he ''probably'' is with the Autobots." Yet, Ultra Magnus is standing right next to him.

And it seems [[Bonecrusher (G1)|Bonecrusher]] has switched sides, as he's helping them shoot at the giant Decepticon rocket engine he just helped build! (Huffer has the wrong paint job, too.)

* To add insult to injury, Devastator is shooting at the Autobots ''before'' the Constructicons form Devastator.

* Soundwave travels with Galvatron to find the source of the harmony. However, when the scene returns to the battle outside the city, Soundwave is with the other Decepticons at the same time.

* "Carnage in C-Minor" is widely regarded by fans as the worst episode of all ''Transformers'' series, but this is seemingly due to the sheer volume of animation errors, as well as the glaringly obvious nature of many of the individual errors. However, the actual ''plot'' is certainly not the weakest to grace the cartoon series, and its "continuity errors" have little to nothing to do with the script itself...certainly not to the level of, say, "[[B.O.T. (episode)|B.O.T.]]".

* That said, there is plenty of inanity to be found in the story too. For instance: Despite the aliens' dialog being in perfectly understandable English (or Galactic Standard or whatever), because they say everything in a sing-song rhythm, apparently none of the Transformers except Blaster and Soundwave can understand them, and the two tape decks spend a large (and annoying) amount of time translating Eurythman to "non-sing-song" for everyone else.

* While not strictly an animation ''error'' per se, the number of Autobots appearing in this episode seems a little inconsistent, with several characters appearing, disappearing or seemingly replacing others with no clear indication of how many there are fighting in what place at any given time.

* Galvatron and Soundwave are briefly seen holding hands whilst flying.

* Apparently, a single blast from [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]'s [[lightning cannon]] can cause [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] to disassemble. And [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] believes that intellectuals are weak.

* In hindsight, it wasn't the best idea for Soundwave to have his erase button open so it could be pushed by a enemy. Or to have an erase button in the first place. For their sake, we hope [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and the other [[Decepticon Mini-Cassette|cassettes]] had their copy-protection tabs removed.

* Anyone else bothered that this "sonic weapon" was used to destroy a comet IN SPACE?

It created [[Unicron]] (boo!), then cut him in half to make [[Primus]] (even worse!). The [[Vok]] claim to be guardians of The One and followers of its will. They also seem to think that either it created the multiverse, or it ''is'' the multiverse. Details are fuzzy.

The Vok sought to protect "the sleepers," by whom they meant the stasis-locked [[Autobot|Autobots]] and [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] aboard the [[Ark (G1)|''Ark'']]. Later, they explained themselves again to their creation, [[Primal Prime]]:

Notably, they never referred to Primus by name (nor Unicron, for that matter), though they did fear "the enemy of all creation," to whom Tarantulas was attempting to deliver the [[Matrix of Leadership]]. {{storylink|Primeval Dawn Part 3}} As Tarantulas would later be seen inside Unicron during the [[Universe war]], Unicron is likely that enemy. {{storylink|Escape (issue)|Escape}} This raises the question of how Primus fit into their cosmology, and in fact whether ''he'' was what they meant by the creator-One. Answers remain unclear.

On [[Velocitron]], native racers [[Crumplezone (Cybertron)|Crumplezone]] and [[Ransack (Cybertron)|Ransack]] are driving along, minding their own business, when they suddenly find [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] standing in their paths. The Decepticon leader attacks the pair, and they opt for flight over fight, but Megatron has no intentions of letting them escape. The pair transform to robot mode to try and give a decent account of themselves, but Megatron slaps them around with ease and informs them they now work for him. The defeated duo can do little but obey.

Meanwhile, on [[Earth]], [[Landmine (Energon)|Landmine]] is feeling useless due to the fact that he is still recovering from his injuries at the hands of [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]]. [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] reassures him he'll be back up to fighting strength again soon. Soon, [[Coby Hansen|Coby]], [[Bud Hansen|Bud]] and [[Lori]] arrive to cheer Landmine up, and Optimus leaves them alone, departing for a meeting with the other Autobots to discuss a plan of action for finding the [[Cyber Planet Key]]s. They agree that more info on the [[Atlantis Pattern]] and the [[Omega Lock]] is needed, so [[Vector Prime]] begins analyzing the pattern while the others head out to gather intel. Lori and Bud go too, with [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] and [[Jolt (Cybertron)|Jolt]], respectively. Optimus, meanwhile, goes looking for [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]], and finds him goofing off at a local race track. Optimus reprimands him for being reckless when discretion is needed, and the apologetic Hot Shot swears it won't happen again.

Back at the base, Coby is giving Landmine a checkup. He tells him he's not completely healed yet, but Landmine is eager to help look for info, so Coby agrees to let him go out, so long as he picks an Earth vehicle mode, first. They head out to a construction site, where Landmine chooses a front loader as his [[alternate mode]], then he and Coby start their search.

Elsewhere, Bud has been surfing the net from within Jolt, and has discovered a report of an archaeological artifact bearing the Atlantis Pattern at a museum in [[Mexico]]. Jolt passes the news to Optimus, who orders the whole team to the museum. Unfortunately, Starscream and [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]] spot them en route, and follow them to Mexico.

The Autobots arrive at the museum first, under cover of night, but it isn't long before the two Decepticons show up. Thundercracker shows off his new [[Cyber Key]], blasting Jetfire, and the two airborne nemeses take off to duel in the skies. The [[Recon Mini-Con Team]] and the kids clear the battlefield, and Vector Prime heads inside to check out the pattern, covered by Hot Shot and [[Scattorshot (Cybertron)|Scattorshot]] while Optimus Prime faces down Starscream. The treacherous Decepticon unveils his own Cyber Key Power, but before a fight can begin between the two, Landmine comes charging in, determined to get a piece of the Decepticon. Prime orders him to stand back, as he's not ready for combat, but Landmine hesitates, and Starscream takes the opportunity to shoot at him. Optimus takes the shot for Landmine, and Landmine charges at Starscream with righteous fury, but the Decepticon knocks him down, and flies toward the museum to take out Vector Prime. Scattorshot and Hot Shot hold him off, but as they battle, Jetfire and Thundercracker appear overhead, still dogfighting. One of Thundercracker's shots goes wide, heading for the kids and Mini-Cons, and Landmine leaps to defend them. Summoning his Cyber Key for the first time, Landmine activates his "Cyber Tempest" attack to detonate the incoming fire, proving that he's ready for action again.

At this point, Vector Prime emerges and declares that the object inside is not the Omega Lock, but rather an imitation. With the object of their search proven a fake, and with [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Overhaul]] arriving to reinforce the Autobots, Starscream calls for a retreat.

Back at base, Landmine and Coby share a moment, as Landmine tells him that their friendship has made saving Earth just as important to him as saving Cybertron. As the Autobots lament that they appear to be back to square one, Vector Prime reveals that while the object at the base was an imitation, it did contain a star map giving the location of Velocitron, where one of the Cyber Planet Keys is located. Optimus dispatches Hot Shot and Red Alert to Velocitron, with orders to be discreet and make no contact with the locals. Vector Prime combines the power of his [[Rhisling|sword]] with Optimus's [[Matrix of Leadership]] to open a dimension gate to Velocitron, and the pair waste no time in heading through. Hot Shot is agog at the endless speedways of the planet...and aghast when he is suddenly passed by the speeding form of a [[Override (Cybertron)|female Velocitronian]], who seems to be even faster than him.

"'''Herald of Unicron'''" originated as a fan term for Transformers who serve, or have been reformatted by, [[Unicron]]. It was used in much the same way as [[shellformer]], or as [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]] used to be; and like "seeker" has since graduated to (admittedly rare) usage in official sources. Despite its official rarity, fanfictions are rife with it, making it part of the greater [[fanon]]. It most likely originates from the term "[[wikipedia:Herald_of_Galactus|Herald of Galactus]]" from various Marvel comics, given the similarities between Unicron and [[wikipedia:Galactus|Galactus]].

The term's first canonical use was in the Fun Publications fanclub comic "[[Balancing Act (issue)|Balancing Act]]" where [[Ramjet (Universe)|Ramjet]] refers to himself specifically as the "Herald of Unicron". Later, [[IDW Publishing|IDW]] used the term in [[Galvatron (BWII)|''Beast Wars II'' Galvatron]]'s ''[[Beast Wars Sourcebook]]'' biography.

==What is a "Herald"?==
While many characters are Unicron-related, not all of those characters are generally thought of as "Heralds". While the term originated in fandom, it nevertheless has some boundaries. For example, [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] was rebuilt to serve Unicron and lead his "armada" of rebuilt Transformers, which includes [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]], an indeterminate number of [[Sweeps]] and sometimes [[Cyclonus's Armada|that/those other guy(s)]]. All of these characters are sometimes called "Heralds", even though Galvatron wasn't always loyal. On the other hand, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] is not considered a "Herald", due to his ''complete'' lack of loyalty. Starscream never intended to serve Unicron and abandoned the Planet Eater after getting his reward. {{storylink|Ghost in the Machine}}

Another, more appropriate example would be [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] and [[The Fallen]]. Both are almost universally considered Heralds of Unicron among fans for the same reason that the Silver Surfer was considered a Herald of Galactus; their appearance actually signified the appearance of the Chaos Bringer, as they were trying to bring him back into existence. Sideways wanted to lead Unicron to the Transformers and destroy Cybertron, while The Fallen was attempting to free the Planet Eater from his extradimensional prison. [[Hook, Line, and Sinker]] served a similar purpose, as their arrival at a particular world meant the Chaos Bringer would soon arrive to devour everything.

==Insignia==

The [[insignia]] of the ''[[Beast Wars Neo (franchise)|Beast Wars Neo]]'' faction, the [[Blendtron]]s, has been [[Repurposing|repurposed]] to represent "Heralds". Initially a fan convention based on the Blendtron origins and the general look of the symbol, the glyph has since entered official usage; [[Overcharge (G1)|Overcharge]]'s sticker sheet identifies the sigil as belonging to "Heralds of Unicron"; the ''[[The Ark: A Complete Compendium of Character Designs|Ark Compendium]]'' used it to represent Unicron (though not Galvatron, Cyclonus or Scourge); the mark adorned the ''[[Kiss Players (franchise)|Kiss Players]]'' [[Sparkbot]]s after their allegiance to Unicron is revealed. The Blendtron insignia, colored yellow, is also the symbol used for Unicron-related characters on this wiki.

Alternatively, the Mini-Con logo has been used in-show (particularly in ''Energon'') as Unicron's insignia. This is complemented by the M shaped frame around his face/helmet, which is nearly identical. This connection was meant to hint at a connection between the Mini-Cons and Unicron before their origin was revealed (like, two episodes later), and was further built on in ''Energon'' during his one-and-only transformation sequence (though it was the half-red/half-blue version of the logo that was used instead of the standard teal blue version).

Dirge appeared without explanation on [[Earth]] under [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s command a year or two after the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]-borne Transformers awoke. His first notable activity was joining in a raid on [[Dinobot Island (G1)|Dinobot Island]], where he was eventually chewed on and thrown bodily by a time-lost Tyrannosaurus rex. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 2}}

Dirge served as part of Megatron's personal guard when the Decepticons confronted the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] about their dubious loyalties. {{storylink|The Master Builders}} He was also briefly involved in an aborted air strike to seize the [[Negavator]], and was present for the next raid on the Negavator's holding pen. Once [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] rigged the Negavator to explode, however, Dirge led his fellow [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] in retreat, against Megatron's direct orders. When a new solar energy facility opened up in [[Central City (G1)|Central City]], [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] led Dirge, [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]] and [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] to steal its power. The facility proved to be a trap, however, set by [[Shawn Berger]] to elevate himself in the public eye by taking down the Decepticons with his private militia. Berger's operatives failed, but the Autobots soon arrived to engage the Decepticons as well. [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]] took to the air and zapped Dirge with his blackout beam. Luckily for Dirge, Ramjet managed to pull off a loopity-loop and ram the flying Autobot into the ground. Megatron then "requested" the pleasure of Shawn Berger's presence, not to punish him, but to play a subtler game. He attempted to convince the industrialist that the Decepticons were good, and the Autobots evil. He had Dirge escort Berger home so that the human could think about his proposal of alliance against the "Evil Autobots". Dirge was also one of the key players in Megatron's staged videos to tarnish the Autobots' reputation. {{storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1}} Later, after the Autobots were successfully villified in the public eye and exiled to deep space, the Seekers turned on the people of Central City, opening fire in the middle of the streets. When the Decepticons uncovered a pool of [[electrum]], a strange element that rendered them totally invincible to harm, they thoroughly enjoyed taunting the Autobots with their superiority. Dirge, unfortunately, drew the short straw and was left to guard the pool with [[Long Haul (G1)|Long Haul]], right up until the Constructicon abandoned him to go fight the battle as well. Dirge was in the middle of...*ahem* exhorted Long Haul's virtues when [[Beachcomber (G1)|Beachcomber]] and [[Seaspray (G1)|Seaspray]] jumped him from behind, giving the Autobots a chance to use the electrum pool as well. The supply was quickly exhausted with both armies using it, however, reducing the war back to stage one. {{storylink|The Golden Lagoon}} Dirge was also part of Megatron's team working with the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]]s, producing energon cubes from the insects' feasting. They were eventually defeated by the Autobots and a grove of robotic space plants called [[Morphobot]]s. {{storylink|Quest for Survival}}

Later on, Dirge, Ramjet and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] came to [[Monacus]] to look after Megatron's interests in [[Sheol]], and his less than reputable partner, [[Lord Gyconi]]. They were putting the squeeze on Gyconi when a program caught Dirge's optic, inviting one-and-all to see the Autobots in pit battle against Gyconi's [[animalien]]s. They decided to take in a show while on Monacus, but quickly realized what was going on when [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]] flooded the arena with smoke to stop the games and save his friends. Dirge and Ramjet set off after the Autobot in jet mode, and very nearly destroyed him before the bounty hunting Autobot named [[Devcon (G1)|Devcon]] stepped in to blast them out of the air. There's nothing a Decepticon fears more than a fair fight, and the two Seekers skidadled as soon as they were able to get back in the sky. On another occasion, Dirge accompanied Megatron to help their ally [[Deceptitran]] against the [[Tlalakan]] rebels. After the Decepticons captured [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] (who was aiding the rebels), Dirge was eager to try out his mind probe on the little Autobot, but was interrupted by a rebel attack before he could really get into it. {{storylink|Sea Change}}

When the [[Triple Changer]]s temporarily disposed of Megatron and Starscream, Decepticon leadership became a free-for-all. Instead of chosing sides like the Constructicons, Ramjet and the Seekers were mostly content just to watch the hilarity ensue, like [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]]'s football antics and Astrotrain's army of idiot trains. He even actually ''avoided'' death for a change and was seen successfully escaping from a train tunnel flooded by Astrotrain's [[Astroforce]]. At another battle for a precious [[Mini-Con]], the [[Autobot]]s and the [[Decepticon]]s face each other, with [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] suspiciously absent. When [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] press forward, [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] retreats, while [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] and [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] also unenthusiastic about the notion of going against the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]]. With all the Decepticons literally running away (having apparently forgotten their alt modes), [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Prime]] and [[Smokescreen (Armada)|Smokescreen]] look for the Mini-Con.

At the battlefield, Sideways announces he's found the Mini-Con, causing him to be rushed by [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] who sits on the bike. Megatron is able to grasp the Mini-Con, but Sideways in turn holds onto Megatron. And Hot Shot uses his hyperdrive to grab on to Sideways. Together, the three are all caught in Megatron's teleportation back to the Decepticon base. Scavenger, who was apparently passively monitoring the fight from a distance, considers the teleportation "An interesting turn of events." Prime and Smokescreen are left to look for their partner.

On the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]], Megatron is unable to awaken the Mini-Con; finding the panel to be a fake, he crushes it into dust. Then Sideways reveals (via a retroactive foreshadowing flashback) to Hot Shot that this was all part of his plan to get Hot Shot inside of the Decepticon base so that he might eliminate the Decepticons. Cyclonus and Demolishor arrive and Megatron orders the battle to begin again.

Scavenger returns to the damaged Decepticon base. Sideways and Hot Shot take cover in a hallway and the Decepticons lead the two Autobots outside, revealing that the Decepticon base is on the moon. The duo follow the Decepticons knowing that they might be heading into a trap. Megatron's disembodied voice taunts Hot Shot. Soon, the couple are surrounded by shadowy figures, and when Hot Shot attempts to plow through one of them to get clear, he sees that one the shadows is Optimus Prime. Or is it?

After attempting to converse with a suspiciously hostile Optimus, Sideways points out that the Optimus Hot Shot is talking to isn't actually Optimus at all but actually a clever ruse. The two take cover in a Moon hole and the two agree to split up to defeat the holographic doppelgangers.

Megatron meanwhile announces that whomever can claim the Star Saber from Hot Shot is allowed to keep it. Hot Shot and Sideways finish off the holograms and Hot Shot briefly hops on Sideways' bike mode as the Decepticons begin their attack. Hot Shot leaps off of Sideways, cutting off Cyclonus's rotor, and knocking over Demolishor as he lands, ready to duel Starscream.

Starscream gains the upper hand against the exhausted Hot Shot, but Megatron reveals that he's taken Sideways prisoner and is ransoming him for the Star Saber. Hot Shot is conflicted, but concedes that it's his duty to save Sideways and gives up the sword. Megatron releases Sideways, but before he can claim the Star Saber, Hot Shot verbally commands the three Mini-Cons to separate and return.

At that moment, Sideways changes sides, knocking the Star Saber away from Hot Shot to Starscream. Sideways changes his head and logo, and Hot Shot emotionally laments how he was easily deceived. Cyclonus and Demolishor literally kick Hot Shot while he's down. Starscream is about to kill Hot Shot to earn the Star Saber, but Scavenger arrives and suggest that Hot Shot has had enough.

Back at the Autobot base, the Autobots and kids have been anxiously waiting. While Carlos, Billy, and Fred believed that Hot Shot would easily defeat the Decepticons, the rest of the Autobots weren't so optimistic. However they were forced in a passive position as they were unaware of the location of the Decepticon base. When Hot Shot arrives in brutal shape and falls offline, Red Alert rushes to provide aid.

Starscream celebrates his new sword, gloating that he is undeniably the most powerful warrior in the universe. This causes an enraged Megatron to destroy the monitor he was watching Starscream upon, eliciting a laugh from Sideways.

* Despite his several references to getting the Star Saber "back," Starscream has never actually been shown to have possessed it at any point prior to this episode.

*Amazingly, the entire scene where Megatron and Sideways fight over the fake Mini-Con panel is animated with both characters in compromising positions, with both voice actors David Kaye and Paul Dobson making mostly grunting sounds, a dream come true to fangirls of both characters and actors.
*When Sideways reveals himself to Megatron, partially hidden by a cloud of dust, his dialogue his rather baffling. After Megatron claims that no-one humiliates him, Sideways says in his normal voice, "That's not what I've been hearing!" Immediately after, however, he ''repeats'' this line, in a higher-pitched, dumber-sounding voice, as if he was mockingly repeating the sentence (which would mean he was... mocking himself?). Immediately thereafter, Crosswise appears from off-screen and becomes his Decepticon head. Any significance this may have between Sideways and his Mini-Cons is unclear. The line was not present in the Japanese version of the episode. In another scene, Sideways in vehicle mode speaks normally even though his rider is absent.
