The term Seeker refers to Decepticon jet troopers who all share the same body style. That is, the Decepticons in Generation 1 that looked like Starscream but in different colors or with minor variations in wing and head shapes, and also the Decepticons in later franchises such as Armada where similar "families" of jets appear.

The word "Seeker" hovered a long time in a strange grey area between official and fan-coined terms. It seems to have originated in extremely obscure official or semi-official writing, but somehow became widely used among fans. In 2002 the term appeared in dialogue from the first issue of The War Within from Dreamwave, making it "official" after years of controversy. It has subsequently appeared in many other places such as on toy packaging, books, and in other stories.

Generation 1 Seekers
Japanese name: Jetron

In Generation 1, there were six Seekers given names and characterization: Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Thrust, Dirge, and Ramjet. The last three are usualy designated as Conehead Seekers by fans for their distinctive transformation that leaves the jet nosecone pointing up. The animation models for the Conehead Seekers were designed by Floro Dery, whereas the season one Seekers were done primarily by an unknown designer in Japan.

In the Generation 1 cartoon, there were large numbers of generic, unnamed Seekers in addition to the named characters. They came in a wide variety of colors, and seem to have formed the bulk of the Decepticon forces on Cybertron, as well as among Megatron's initial troops on Earth. They gradually became less common, perhaps as a result of casualties, or the cartoon's production team getting more careful, or likely just plain having more "actual" Decepticons to work with as the line expanded. (Extra-Reflector units and alternate color cassettes were also used along with these Seekers, early on, to fill out the comparatively thin Decepticon ranks.)

There is a seventh official Seeker who has been retroactively inserted into Generation 1: Sunstorm, a yellow-orange Seeker who started his existence as an e-Hobby exclusive toy, inspired by one of the nameless generic Seekers from the first episode of the Transformers cartoon. (He was only available with an Autobot toy also based on a first-episode cameo.)

Unnamed Seekers appear in the following episodes:

*More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1 - In the "return to Iacon" scene on Cybertron 5 to 7 Seekers appear (wide shots depict a group of 5, but the close-ups give us 7 distinct color schemes.) The first three are (as far as colors are concerned) Skywarp, Starscream (with a deeper voice), and Thundercracker. Most visable behind them are a lavender Seeker with a flamethrower pack, a Blue-but-distinct-from-Thundercracker Seeker who holds his arm gun like a rifle, and the yellow/orange Seeker who would become Sunstorm. A second almost-Thundercracker lurks in the background in one shot.

*More Than Meets the Eye, Parts 2 & 3 - At least 6 different Seekers of various shades and decos of blue and at least or 4 of various shades and decos of lavender (two with Black tailfins as jets, two with white). Also a blue varient (seen in the picture above) missing his wings and shoulder vents appears in part 3.

*Divide and Conquer - Avert your eyes: One deep blue, one eye-burning bright green, and one garishly bright yellow. This trio is often referred to by fans as "the Rainmakers" because they started an acid rain shower to irritate a group of Autobots.

*The Ultimate Doom, Part 3 - Two blue variants, and one really nice looking pine-green Seeker appears.

*Five Faces of Darkness - One all grey Seeker, one with Onslaught's coloration, and one with Silverbolt. Also the interesting Conehead variant. All pictured above.

*Dark Awakening - One Season 1 style Seeker with Dirge's colors appears next to the actual Dirge.

*Puffy stickers - A sheet of TF puffy stickers featured a rare generic with a Starscream based colorsheme. He is pictured above as well.

Unicron Trilogy Seekers
In Armada, the Starscream/Thundercracker/Skywarp trio returned in an alternate incarnation, although they were never officially designated as "Seekers" in this continuity family. All three even used the same toy mold, though Skywarp was heavily retooled from the others (including getting an entirely new-mold Mini-Con partner). While new Decepticon-allied jet characters named Thrust and Ramjet came out in Armada, they each had their own unique molds. However, whereas Ramjet was simply the Mini-Con partner of Tidal Wave, Thrust was a bulk who even had a VTOL engine in jet mode and a conehead and vertically-oriented wings in robot mode. Although Thrust's original toy was green, redecos looked a bit more like his G1 incarnation.

Though only Starscream appeared in the follow-up franchise, Energon, several Seekers appeared in the final portion of the Unicron Trilogy, Cybertron Starscream came back in a form heavily inspired by the War Within Starscream design (itself based on the "tetrajet" (see below)), and Thundercracker got a completely different body. A Skywarp was also released as a redeco of Thundercracker.

Further, the Legends of Cybertron Starscream toy, a tiny, simplified version of his main toy, was redecoed three more times: Skywarp as a giveaway at ComicCon 2005, Ramjet as a giveaway at 2005, and Sunstorm as part of the last wave of the LOC line at retail.

Alternate terms
The most obvious alternate name for these Transformers is Decepticon Planes. While usually clear enough from context, this term has the weakness that there are many Decepticon jets who are not "Seekers". (Despite this, Decepticon Planes is the official -- first used in the 1984 Transformers catalog -- class name for those Decepticons originally produced as Seekers.)

The same Transformers are also sometimes referred to as tetrajets. This makes reference to their Cybertronian forms as seen in the cartoon episode "More Than Meets the Eye" and a handful of other episodes set on Cybertron. In these forms, their vehiclular modes are shaped somewhat like tetrahedra, or "triangular pyramids" (that is, a pyramid with a triangular base).

For a time, the term Skyraider saw increasing popularity. It comes from European Generation 2 marketing. When Starscream and Ramjet were released in this line, their packaging referred to them as Skyraiders. The UK Generation 2 comic also featured some character profiles (much like the old Transformers Universe comics), and those profiles for Starscream and Ramjet used the word as well. It is a relatively small leap to extend usage to all similarly-built Decepticons. The push to use "Skyraider" was largely founded on the idea of using an official term instead of one that was, seemingly, coined and used only by fans. When Simon Furman made use of "Seeker" in The War Within, however, this primary motivation was lost.

A final, joking alternate name is non-blunderscrounge. Used infrequently and only for the sake of silliness, this term originated in a post to alt.toys.transformers by the fan, Sky Shadow. In a discussion of the term "seeker", Shy Shadow suggested that all Decepticon jets who do not share the body design of Starscream be called "blunderscrounges", making Starscream himself a "non-blunderscrounge".

History of term "Seeker"
Although the most well-known name for these Decepticons, the wide use of the term "Seeker" is still somewhat mysterious.

The only known, documented use of the term is from the 1984 JCPenney holiday catalog (sometimes called a "wishbook"). On the page which shows the Christmas season's available TFs, the following entry is found: "Decepticon Silver Plane. Airplane with sensational F-15 styling scours the countryside searching for Autobots. When they're found, the Seekers set out to destroy them. Transforms to an exciting robot with hi-tech weapons and Decepticon logo." A photo of Starscream and Thundercracker is displayed.

It has been rumored, but not demonstrated, that the term "Seeker" was used in some other early promotional materials. If so, then the term must have been handed down by Hasbro at some point. It hardly seems possible that the term could have been invented by a lowly copy writer at JCPenney who also just happened to decide to capitalize it. Still, though, if this catalog is the only primary source in which the term appears, it seems strange that it could have inspired the entire fandom to use the term. "Seeker" was in wide use among internet Transfans even in the early 1990s, when the fandom was just getting off its feet. Did somebody in the days of the Transformers email list have a memory of the word from when they saw this catalog at age 10 and start the trend? It is probably impossible to know at this point.

Apocryphal origins
It is sometimes claimed that "Seeker" is derived from a line of dialogue in the first episode of the G1 cartoon, in which these jets are referred to as "hunter-seekers". This line does not exist.

The term "hunter-seekers" is used in issue 17 of the US comic, "The Smelting Pool!". However, the Decepticons it is applied to are shown only in their flight modes, which look nothing like the "Seekers" we are familiar with. In fact, the Conehead Seekers make their first appearance in this same issue, and their Cybertronian flight modes appear very similar to their Earth jet forms (if not completely identical), and completely different from the craft which are referred to as hunter-seekers. The only real connection between the hunter-seekers we were shown and the "Seekers" is that there's more than one of them and they fly.
In Armada, the Starscream/Thundercracker/Skywarp trio returned in an alternate incarnation, although they were never officially designated as "Seekers" in this continuity family.

Megatron tries to drain oil out of the Earth several times using several ridiculous methods.

Detailed synopsis
Megatron and Soundwave pilot a gigantic hovering fuel transport they had stolen from the humans over a link on the Alaskan Pipeline. Having bribed a human worker with the promise of a new Jeep, their plan is to discreetly siphon off oil gradually, but Megatron gets immediately impatient. After the nameless Decepticon goons attach the cables, Megatron starts sucking up oil at a ridiculous rate. When the human gets angry, Megatron blasts him... with a stun-ray. Pansy. Little does Megatron know that the human's new Jeep is actually the Autobot Hound in disguise, who transmits the information back to Prowl at the Autobot base.

Stats
As part of the "See & Read" series, this story came in two different formats, both times as the second story in a set alongside "Satellite of Doom".

Both stories were told in picture-book form, coming with an audio cassette with the story narrations and acting on it. This version also came packaged with the yellow version of Cliffjumper... who didn't appear in the stories.

An "animated" VHS version was also available, using chroma-key to cheesily animate the static pictures, with the storybook text superimposed on the bottom of the screen.
:Omega Supreme is an Autobot in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Omega Supreme is one of the largest Autobots there is. He isn't much for words, preferring his massive frame and equally massive weapons to do the talking for him. Omega is the last line of the defense for the Autobots, a titanic guardian robot capable of instilling fear and panic into the sparks of Decepticons that dare face him in the field of battle.

Except Buzzsaw. Kill that little guy, it just makes him angry.

Fiction
Animated continuity
:Voice actor: Jack Angel (US), ? (Japan)
Omega was one of the many Autobots who just showed up during the second season. Unlike most, however, he was actually given an origin.

Omega Supreme is the last surviving member of the legendary Guardian Robots, the massive neutral defenders of Cybertron. While he was defending the Crystal City, he befriended the Constructicons, the city's creators. However, as it would happen, the Constructicons were attacked by Megatron's Robo-Smasher and converted into Decepticons. The now-evil Constructicons convinced Omega to leave his post to help defend another city, and promised to look after the city in his stead. When he left, they demolished the Crystal City to Omega Supreme's horror. He captured them and tried to change the builders back into Autobots, but the process was irreversible and the treacherous Constructicons lured Omega into an ambush by the Smasher. The Robo-Smasher attacked Omega, but it was destroyed before it could convert him. Omega later recounts, "I lived, but, changed. Since then, I feel only hate for the Constructicons." It is thus possible that Omega's cold, emotionless demeanor -- quite different than he behaved before the destruction of the Crystal City -- is a direct result of the Robo-Smasher's work. However, it may also be that he has merely retreated into himself and become withdrawn because of the pain of betrayal and guilt.

Some time after these events transpired, the Constructicons left Cybertron in a starship for unknown reasons. Omega Supreme pursued them, "for millions of years, across the galaxies", until they finally arrived on Earth and were reunited with Megatron. The Secret of Omega Supreme

In 1985, the Autobots used Omega Supreme to follow the Decepticons back to Cybertron when they intended to use Vector Sigma to create a new group of Decepticon warriors. After failing to stop the Decepticons create the Stunticons, the Autobots created a new team of their own to counter the new threat, the Aerialbots. As Omega Supreme escaped Cybertron, he was hit by weapons fire from the Centurion Droids, and once he safely disembarked his passengers on Earth, he catastrophically exploded. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1

Ratchet, Wheeljack and Sparkplug Witwicky connected Omega Supreme's mind to the Ark's life support unit while they set about putting the giant back together. The arrogant Aerialbots, unimpressed with both the Autobots and the humans they protected, refused to help their comrades in defeating the Decepticons until their group leader Silverbolt showed them how Sparkplug was able to disregard his fatigue and continue repairing Omega Supreme simply because of his concern for a friend's well being. Soon afterwards, the Aerialbots were facing defeat as Superion at the hands of the Stunticon combined form, Menasor, when the newly-repaired Omega Supreme suddenly appeared and helped them defeat combiner and send the Decepticons packing. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2

Omega rarely spoke, and then it was usually just two or three words. This is by choice, however, as he can speak normally if prompted.

Marvel Comics continuity
Omega Supreme was built by the Autobots on Earth in order to guard the Ark while they were away. As luck would have it, the Autobots soon found a reason to leave their base en masse to chase the Decepticons, an act which Megatron took advantage of by ordering Skywarp, Starscream, Thundercracker, Frenzy, Rumble, Buzzsaw, and Laserbeak to attack the Ark. Unfortunately, they didn't get the memo about the Autobots' new defense system, and Omega Supreme easily destroyed all of them except Laserbeak, who managed to escape with a wounded Megatron back to the Decepticons.

Starscream's death ultimately proved to be only temporary, and after he gained the power of the Underbase, Omega Supreme was amongst the casualties.

Dreamwave comics continuity
Some time after the departure of the Ark, Omega Supreme and Jetfire were sent out to go find them. They ultimately ended up burried under Antarctica on Earth. Millions of years later, Jetfire remotely reactivated Omega Supreme in an attempt to defeat Sunstorm. Though Omega Supreme was initially successful, Sunstorm managed to obscure his vison. When Omega Supreme retracted his visor in order to see, Sunstorm blasted him right in the face with a burst of solar radiation, instantly knocking him offline. He soon recovered, but Sunstorm had escaped.

IDW comics continuity
Omega Supreme is largely a non-participant in the galactic cold-war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Predating the notion of factions and having survived two Primes, he remains in seclusion in a specially shielded artificial asteroid within the Muta-Gaath Nebula. Though nominally allied with the Autobots, he remains outside of the conflict for fear of escalating it due to the firepower he commands. Instead, he exists as a resource to Primes in times of doubt.

Omega Supreme is one of the few living Transformers to remember the first Ark. Believing that the Transformer race should exercise a slow inner growth through intellectual contemplation, he frequently clashed with the expansionist Nova Prime, who felt Cybertron's destiny lay in the conquest of other worlds. After the Ark's departure and Nova Prime's disappearance, Omega Supreme discovered a horrific creation of theirs: Monstructor. He sealed the gestalt in a dimensionally-displaced prison to prevent it from devastating Cybertron and escalating the burgeoning conflict. Centuries later, Optimus Prime came to him for advice. While the two were talking Monstructor - somehow freed from captivity - attacked. Omega Supreme told Optimus Prime the truth about himself, Nova Prime, and Monstructor. Though Optimus Prime succeeded in defeating the gestalt, he condemned Omega Supreme for attempting to play god by simply locking them away. Spotlight: Optimus Prime
Synopsis
As Jetfire is made a full member of the Autobots, Optimus Prime activates five Autobot warriors whose minds had been encoded on crystals for four million years. While holding Grapple back for a special project, he sends the other four with Bumblebee to acclimate them to their new homeworld, but the Autobots stumble across Shockwave's plan to steal sonic energy from a rock concert. Disobeying Prime's orders, Bumblebee leads the new recruits into battle and they save the concert.

Errors
*If Ratchet is having so much trouble fixing the existing warriors, how come Wheeljack can build new bodies from scratch for the new Autobots so easily?

*The lead singer is alternatively called "Brick Springhorn" and "Brick Springstern."

:Jhiaxus is an "evolved-Decepticon" character from the Generation 2 portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Jhiaxus is no ordinary Decepticon. He and his faction left Cybertron eons ago and formed a Cybertronian empire of cyberformed planets. He views the original Autobots and Decepticons as evolutionary throwbacks, simple animals, insults to his race's memory which must be wiped out. But his ice-cold demeanor of control and amoral objectivity is merely a facade. It is only a mask, a face he wears to forget the mad tyrant he once was. He has been repressing this side of himself, burying it, for millennia. Unfortunately, recent encounters with Autobots and Decepticons have been testing his resolve...

Jhiaxus is not one for improvisation. He has been denying his impulses for so long, it has weakened his ability to think on his feet in many situations. Once Jhiaxus has set a course of action, it is tough for him to diverge from his strategy.

Unicron abducted Jhiaxus's Spark and stripped him of his rank and power. Though he once again wears the brand of an ordinary Decepticon, he still nurses a hatred towards Autobot and Decepticon alike. They are all, of course, unevolved, inferior throw-backs. This bias forces him to work alone.

IDW comics continuity
Jhiaxus was Nova Prime's chief theoretical strategist and pioneer of gestalt technology. It is implied that he left with his leader aboard the original Ark spacecraft and subsequently was lost in the Benzuli Expanse. He created the first combiner robot, Monstructor, in an attempt to engineer the ultimate Transformer. Unfortunately, the combination process drove its members insane. They proved too volatile to remain free, and were eventually imprisoned by Omega Supreme after Jhiaxus's departure. Spotlight: Optimus Prime
Robots in Disguise
* Jhiaxus (Deluxe, 2003)

: Jhiaxus is a redeco of the deluxe-sized Jetstorm toy in orange and white. His jet-mode cockpit has a spring-loaded extension, giving him a bird-like head in this form that is articulated at the neck to "search" for targets. Both jet and robot modes feature spring-loaded "energy blast" missiles. He also has an alternate robot mode, which folds his legs into a "flight cone" and reveals jet thrusters.

: This mold was also used for Sonic Attack Jet, Robots in Disguise Storm Jet, and Universe Skywarp.

Trivia
* Jhiaxus's name is a pun on "gee, axe us", a phrase which expressed writer Simon Furman's dread of the G2 comic's cancellation by Marvel.
