Ratchet used to be a politician - Optimus Prime's chief liaison to the [[High Council of Ancients]]. He tried to find a peaceful solution to the civil war and when this failed, he became a battlefield medic.

He would later be one of three Autobots who tried to prevent Megatron from reaching the [[All Spark]]. They hadn't, however, expected for [[Brawl (Movie)|Devastator]] to be demented enough to set off a foldspace warhead at pointblank range - a weapon that warped everyone to different parts of the galaxy. Ratchet found himself stuck in the middle of a genocidal alien war that uncomfortably mirrored Cybertron's own; by challenging and defeating the local tyrant, he became ruler of the Thraal faction. Hearing [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee's]] call of assistance, Ratchet and the other Autobots under Optimus Prime's direct command came to Earth, with Ratchet crashing into a storefront. As emergency crews and bystanders observe the wreckage, Ratchet assumed the vehicle mode of a nearby Hummer H2 rescue vehicle and drove away.

Ratchet linked up with [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] and [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], then made their way to a deserted ally to meet up with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and their new [[Sam Witwicky|human]] [[Mikaela Banes|friends]]. After being introduced as the unit's medical officer, Ratchet remarked that his sensors have indicated that Sam's pheromone levels suggests he wants to mate with Mikaela. (Neither Sam nor Mikaela appreciated this comment.) He also explained how Bumblebee's [[voicebox]] was damaged, and that he had been having trouble fixing it for some time.

Following Sam to his house, Ratchet and their other Autobots unwittingly caused much destruction to the Witwicky yard and stress to Sam when they attempted to help the boy look for his [[Archibald Witwicky|grandfather's]] glasses. After Sam told them to hide, Ratchet accidently backed into some powerlines, which shocked him enough to make him fall onto a greenhouse. Ratchet found the experience tingly, suggested to Ironhide that he try it, and Ironhide, sarcastically, mused that it looked fun, but unfortunately this caused a neighborhood-wide blackout, making the search for the glasses much more difficult. Ratchet attempted to help by activating his powerful floodlights which only suceeded in making [[Ron Witwicky|the]] [[Judy Witwicky|parents]] investigate his room. When Ironhide remarked that Sam's parents were annoying and requested Prime's permission to 'take them out', the normally peaceful Ratchet nodded vigorously and points Ironhide's left cannon at the house. Maybe that powersurge did more damage than we thought it did.

Soon, Sam, Mikaela and his parents were captured by the mysterious [[Sector Seven]], Ratchet and the other Autobots totally outclassed the S7 agents by instantly disarming them of their weapons, then rescuing the boy and his girl. Their dramatic escape was to be short-lived when Bumblebee was captured while saving his human friends' lives. The next morning, the remaining Autobots gathered to discuss their options. Whether through intuition or some technological means, Ratchet announced that the Decepticons were preparing to make their move. Optimus Prime declared that if they could not defeat the Decepticons, he would fuse the [[All Spark]] with his own [[spark]], hopefully destroying it. Ratchet cautioned him against this action, as the raw power of the artifact would likely kill him. Prime replied that it was his own choice, and to save the humans from destruction and the mistakes of the Transformers, it was a sacrifice that he was willing to make. Inspired by his words, the Autobots headed to [[Hoover Dam]], before encountering Bumblebee leading a column of Sector Seven vehicles headed in the opposite direction.

As the large group arrived in [[Mission City]], it was attacked by [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]], with the explosion crippling Bumblebee. At the same time, [[Brawl (Movie)|Devastator]] attacked the surviving human soldiers, prompting Ratchet and Jazz to engage the large Decepticon. As Jazz destroyed one of Brawl's rocket pods, Ratchet used his buzzsaw to slice off the tank's left arm.

[[William Lennox|Captain Lennox]] ordered Sam to take the All Spark to the rooftop of a nearby, run-down building so he could pass the cube to a military helicopter that would soon arrive. Ratchet and Ironhide volunteer themselves to protect Sam as he made his escape. Unfortunately, the villianous Starscream swooped down to block Sam's path, forcing the Autobots to engage him in a rather one-sided battle that saw the both of them knocked down.

Unable to assist Sam any further, Ratchet headed to Jazz, in an attempt to repair him. However, his [[Spark]] had already faded. After the defeat of Megatron and the destruction of the All Spark, Ratchet somberly informed Optimus Prime that he could not save the fallen Jazz. Later, as Optimus declared that Earth was their new home and that his team would be waiting for any surviving Autobots to gather there, Ratchet spent the remainder of the day observing Sam and Mikaela making out on the hood of Bumblebee's vehicle mode.

Ratchet is also missing significant amounts of paint applications, with unpainted wheels, emergency tools, and light details, as well as a underpainted face, resulting in a rather monochromatic toy.

In robot mode he has a faux truck-front chest that's more faithful to the CGI design than the Voyager toy's chest, but the rest of his robot mode is (understandably) inaccurate and limited in articulation.

Among the Decepticons, finding a loyal [[second-in-command]] is near impossible. '''Cyclonus''' is the exception to that rule. Created by [[Unicron]], Cyclonus is a being whose loyalty to [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and the Decepticon cause is so intense as to exclude most other emotions and interests from his mind. He is dedicated to destruction in his leader's name.

In the year 2005, after an abortive attack on [[Autobot City]], the evil [[Decepticons]] found it necessary to jettison excess weight from their craft to make it back to their homeworld of [[Cybertron]]. The injured and dying Decepticons were chosen to be ejected into the void of space, including the commander, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], but when their bodies were recovered by the world-eater, [[Unicron]], they were reborn as deadly new warriors in the service of the recreated Megatron, now known as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]].

Immediately following his creation, Cyclonus served as little more than Galvatron’s personal ship and attack dog, carrying his leader to [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]’s coronation, into the battle in [[Autobot City]] and to the [[Junkion (planet)|planet of Junk]], attacking and crippling the shuttle of [[Hot Rod]] and [[Kup]] in the midst of it all. After the destruction of Unicron, however, when Galvatron was lost, Cyclonus came into his own, his loyalty to the Decepticons’ absent leader shaping his character in different ways.

Disgusted with how far the leaderless Decepticons had fallen as they eked out a miserable existence on the barren world of [[Chaar]], Cyclonus resolved to locate Galvatron, daring even to enter Unicron’s deactivated, disembodied head and replaying its memory banks, tracing Galvatron to the world of [[Thrull]]. Unfortunately, once extricated from a pool of the planet’s plasma-lava, Galvatron proved to have been driven insane from exposure to it and brutalized Cyclonus and the [[Sweep]]s before being talked down and returned to his position as leader.

As 2006 settled in, Cyclonus was captured by a [[Quintesson]] scientist for study, along with [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], [[Wreck-Gar]] and [[Marissa Faireborn]], but when the entire group was sucked through a [[black hole]] into a negative universe, they were forced to work together to escape; Cyclonus and Magnus developed a grudging respect for each other as warriors, but vowed that when they met again on the battlefield, it would be as enemies.

Some time later, outnumbered and fleeing from the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbot]]s, Cyclonus and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] took refuge inside a vortex, which transported them to the pacifistic, energy-rich planet of [[Paradron (planet)|Paradron]], which had been settled by Cybertronian refugees. Naturally, the duo immediately overthrew the planet and summoned Galvatron and the other Decepticons there; the plan was ultimately foiled by the Autobots, but at the cost of Paradron itself, which was destroyed. Cyclonus later had his body possessed by the ghost of the deceased Decepticon, Starscream, and went on to clash with Ultra Magnus again aboard the Autobot records asteroid with the fate of [[Daniel Witwicky]] in the balance.

When a group of Decepticons, tired of being beaten and abused by the deranged Galvatron, confronted Cyclonus and demanded that he do something about the situation, Cyclonus was so short on options that he accepted the advice of a Quintesson, and tricked Galvatron into accompanying him to the therapeutic mental institution on planet [[Torkulon]]. It pained Cyclonus to see his leader so demented as each attempted therapy met with failure, but when the Torkuli attempted to cure Galvatron by removing the damaged part of his mind, thereby leaving him a vegetable, Cyclonus sprang into action, only to be restrained. Patched into the sentient network of the planet, rather than be cured, Galvatron infected the world itself with his madness and freed himself, decimating the planet and decided to turn his attention back to fighting the Autobots, rather than dwell on Cyclonus' deception.

Later, Cyclonus was among the Transformers turned into an energy vampire by the [[Trans-Organic]] [[Dweller]], thrown to the beast by Galvatron to delay his own fate – though he hesitated for a moment before fleeing, almost repentant for his action. Later still, he, along with a group of Autobots and Quintessons, were transported into a region of space cordoned off by the Quintessons, landing on the planet [[Zamojin]], where Cyclonus aided the Quintessons in acquiring [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]’s [[Universal Emulator]], in order to repair their systems and return to normal space. When the [[Hate Plague]] swept the universe, Cyclonus was infected and took leadership of the afflicted Decepticons, hunting down Galvatron and tracking him and a group of Autobots into the depths of Chaar and infected scientist [[Jessica Morgan]].

In 2007, Cyclonus participated in the massive Decepticon attack on Autobot City which culminated in the theft of the key to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]]. When the chamber was then opened, the energy released blasted the key and a group of Autobots across the galaxy to the planet [[Nebulos]], and Cyclonus and Scourge led a team of Decepticons in pursuit, attacking and capturing several of the Autobots. To battle them, the remaining Autobots combined with a group of Nebulan rebels into “[[Headmaster]]s” and bested them in combat. Having learned of his fusion of Transformer and Nebulan, the [[Hive]], the evil ruling council of Nebulos, approached the Decepticons to repeat the process, but Cyclonus argued them down to taking the heads of only the animal-mode Decepticons, and merely the weapons of the others.

Consequently, Cyclonus became a [[Targetmaster]] as his handgun was converted into an exo-suit for the Hive member [[Nightstick]], giving them enhanced targeting abilities and firepower. Reclaiming the chamber key with their superior powers, the Decepticons headed back to Cybertron aboard the giant robot [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], where Cyclonus attempted to convince the disgusted Galvatron of the benefits of being bonded to the Nebulans. The Autobots soon arrived back on Cybertron and invaded Scorponok, only to be captured by the Decepticons, and almost executed by Cyclonus before being saved by [[Spike Witwicky]] and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. The Decepticons’ plan was subsequently thwarted by Spike and the Nebulans, and they were sent spiraling off through space aboard Scorponok by a tendril of plasma energy.

====Who is Cyclonus?====

When the injured Decepticons are transformed by Unicron, two identical Cyclonus robots are simultaneously created (as opposed to Scourge and the Sweeps, who were created one after the other in short order) – in the foreground, the [[Insecticon]], [[Bombshell]], becomes one, while in the background, Decepticon jet [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] becomes another. The dialogue which accompanies this scene claims that we are seeing "Cyclonus... and his [[Cyclonus's Armada|armada]]." But, clearly, one warrior does not make an armada – the line is, in fact, a carry over from the original script, in which Cyclonus was intended to have multiple identical duplicates, in the same way that Scourge had the Sweeps.

However, the idea was apparently abandoned right after this scene – the second Cyclonus immediately disappears for the remainder of the film and is abruptly replaced with a third Sweep, where only two had existed before (although despite this, some fans choose not discount the existence of the second Cyclonus, and, somewhat irreverently, refer to him as a second character actually named "[[Cyclonus's Armada|Armada]]"). The only other instances of duplicate Cyclonus robots are in ''Five Faces of Darkness, Part Five'' and ''The Quintesson Journal'', but these examples are generally discounted by fans due to the episodes' infamously poor, error-riddled animation (though it could be argued that if Bombshell were Cyclonus, he could have retained his Insecticon cloning ability to create these extra copies of himself).

As the Cyclonus duplicate, then, has the unfortunate fate of retroactively never having actually existed, the nature of the scene depicting Cyclonus' creation became open to interpretation among fans, who have long debated the question - who truly became the one and only Cyclonus who appears in the series - Bombshell or Skywarp?

The only explicit written statement on the matter comes, originally, from Cyclonus' ''[[Transformers Universe (Marvel comic)|Transformers Universe]]'' bio, which states that he is made from the "parts of dead Decepticons". This plural body-parts origin is echoed in his much later [[Heroes of Cybertron]] bio. However, as noted above, the visuals in the scene as-animated certainly imply that it was one old body per new body, without mixing and matching, and favoring "Bombshell" as the answer because of the blocking of the shot. The movie script is silent, or rather, completely apathetic on the matter: it states that the "other Decepticons" are turned into Scourge and Cyclonus and their minions, with no statements about particular bodies.

It is mainly through dissatisfaction with the asymmetry of the fates of [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and Skywarp that some fans reject the staging and favor Skywarp. The primary argument in Skywarp's favor is the following: Since Thundercracker the blue jet who was with Megatron since they were aboard the ''[[Nemesis]]'' became Galvatron's blue spaceship lieutenant, ''is simply should be'' that Skywarp the purple(-accented) jet who was with Megatron since the ''Nemesis'' would become Galvatron's purple spaceship lieutenant. Although Bombshell also has purple in his color scheme, he did not transform into a vehicle, nor was he ever part of Megatron's inner circle,so to speak.

A third camp feels that it does not matter who became Cyclonus, holding that both candidates were dead at the time, and, ultimately, arguments on the matter seem irrelevant, as Cyclonus never displays any inklings of a past life, whatever life that might have been.

For what it's worth in terms of [[retcon|retroactive canon-making]], [[IDW]]'s 20th anniversary adaptation, ''[[Transformers: The Animated Movie]]'', presented the scene precisely as animated in the movie, with Bombshell in the foreground declared as Cyclonus through a caption box, and Skywarp in the background marked as his armada. On the other hand, the lenticular cover to the 20th Anniversary DVD edition places Skywarp and Cyclonus in the same location, and a set of character bios included in the older R2/R4 DVD explicitly state that he was Skywarp. Tangentially, Cyclonus and Skywarp are two separate, concurrently-existing characters in the arguably post-movie setting of the [[Universe (comic)|Wreckers]] comics. However, none of these things, some coming two decades after the fact, are exactly "evidence" for what happened in the film.

Cyclonus and Scourge continued to make token appearances when the new Headmaster warriors arrived to dominate the Cybertonian war, but their intelligences seemed to markedly decrease until they were little more than cackling, bumbling henchmen - for example, during the attack on the planet [[Beest]], Cyclonus attempted to drop a rock on Rodimus Prime, but accidentally clobbered Galvatron instead, and ran away yelping in fear. Later, when [[Sixshot (G1)|Sixshot]] attempted to extort energy from six countries using each of his six modes, the duo completely botched his scheme when they failed to realize that he was behind it and attacked him with [[Trypticon]].

Disgusted with how far the leaderless Decepticons had fallen as they eked out a miserable existence on the barren world of [[Chaar]], Cyclonus resolved to locate Galvatron, daring even to enter Unicron’s deactivated, disembodied head and replaying its memory banks, tracing Galvatron to the world of [[Thrull]]. Unfortunately, once extricated from a pool of the planet’s plasma-lava, Galvatron proved to have been driven insane from exposure to it and brutalized Cyclonus and the [[Sweep]]s before being talked down and returned to his position as leader.

As 2006 settled in, Cyclonus was captured by a [[Quintesson]] scientist for study, along with [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], [[Wreck-Gar]] and [[Marissa Faireborn]], but when the entire group was sucked through a [[black hole]] into a negative universe, they were forced to work together to escape; Cyclonus and Magnus developed a grudging respect for each other as warriors, but vowed that when they met again on the battlefield, it would be as enemies.

Some time later, outnumbered and fleeing from the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbot]]s, Cyclonus and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] took refuge inside a vortex, which transported them to the pacifistic, energy-rich planet of [[Paradron (planet)|Paradron]], which had been settled by Cybertronian refugees. Naturally, the duo immediately overthrew the planet and summoned Galvatron and the other Decepticons there; the plan was ultimately foiled by the Autobots, but at the cost of Paradron itself, which was destroyed. When a group of Decepticons, tired of being beaten and abused by the deranged Galvatron, confronted Cyclonus and demanded that he do something about the situation, Cyclonus was so short on options that he accepted the advice of a Quintesson, and tricked Galvatron into accompanying him to the therapeutic mental institution on planet [[Torkulon]]. It pained Cyclonus to see his leader so demented as each attempted therapy met with failure, but when the Torkuli attempted to cure Galvatron by removing the damaged part of his mind, thereby leaving him a vegetable, Cyclonus sprang into action, only to be restrained. Patched into the sentient network of the planet, rather than be cured, Galvatron infected the world itself with his madness and freed himself, decimating the planet and decided to turn his attention back to fighting the Autobots, rather than dwell on Cyclonus' deception.

Later, Cyclonus was among the Transformers turned into an energy vampire by the [[Trans-Organic]] [[Dweller]], thrown to the beast by Galvatron to delay his own fate – though he hesitated for a moment before fleeing, almost repentant for his action. Later still, he, along with a group of Autobots and Quintessons, were transported into a region of space cordoned off by the Quintessons, landing on the planet [[Zamojin]], where Cyclonus aided the Quintessons in acquiring [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]’s [[Universal Emulator]], in order to repair their systems and return to normal space. When the [[Hate Plague]] swept the universe, Cyclonus was infected and took leadership of the afflicted Decepticons, hunting down Galvatron and tracking him and a group of Autobots into the depths of Chaar and infected scientist [[Jessica Morgan]].

In 2007, Cyclonus participated in the massive Decepticon attack on Autobot City which culminated in the theft of the key to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]]. When the chamber was then opened, the energy released blasted the key and a group of Autobots across the galaxy to the planet [[Nebulos]], and Cyclonus and Scourge led a team of Decepticons in pursuit, attacking and capturing several of the Autobots. To battle them, the remaining Autobots combined with a group of Nebulan rebels into “[[Headmaster]]s” and bested them in combat. Having learned of his fusion of Transformer and Nebulan, the [[Hive]], the evil ruling council of Nebulos, approached the Decepticons to repeat the process, but Cyclonus argued them down to taking the heads of only the animal-mode Decepticons, and merely the weapons of the others.

Consequently, Cyclonus became a [[Targetmaster]] as his handgun was converted into an exo-suit for the Hive member [[Nightstick]], giving them enhanced targeting abilities and firepower. Reclaiming the chamber key with their superior powers, the Decepticons headed back to Cybertron aboard the giant robot [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], where Cyclonus attempted to convince the disgusted Galvatron of the benefits of being bonded to the Nebulans. The Autobots soon arrived back on Cybertron and invaded Scorponok, only to be captured by the Decepticons, and almost executed by Cyclonus before being saved by [[Spike Witwicky]] and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. The Decepticons’ plan was subsequently thwarted by Spike and the Nebulans, and they were sent spiraling off through space aboard Scorponok by a tendril of plasma energy.

When the injured Decepticons are transformed by Unicron, two identical Cyclonus robots are simultaneously created (as opposed to Scourge and the Sweeps, who were created one after the other in short order) – in the foreground, the [[Insecticon]], [[Bombshell]], becomes one, while in the background, Decepticon jet [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] becomes another. The dialogue which accompanies this scene claims that we are seeing "Cyclonus... and his [[Cyclonus's Armada|armada]]." But, clearly, one warrior does not make an armada – the line is, in fact, a carry over from the original script, in which Cyclonus was intended to have multiple identical duplicates, in the same way that Scourge had the Sweeps.

However, the idea was apparently abandoned right after this scene – the second Cyclonus immediately disappears for the remainder of the film and is abruptly replaced with a third Sweep, where only two had existed before (although despite this, some fans choose not discount the existence of the second Cyclonus, and, somewhat irreverently, refer to him as a second character actually named "[[Cyclonus's Armada|Armada]]"). The only other instances of duplicate Cyclonus robots are in ''Five Faces of Darkness, Part Five'' and ''The Quintesson Journal'', but these examples are generally discounted by fans due to the episodes' infamously poor, error-riddled animation (though it could be argued that if Bombshell were Cyclonus, he could have retained his Insecticon cloning ability to create these extra copies of himself).

As the Cyclonus duplicate, then, has the unfortunate fate of retroactively never having actually existed, the nature of the scene depicting Cyclonus' creation became open to interpretation among fans, who have long debated the question - who truly became the one and only Cyclonus who appears in the series - Bombshell or Skywarp?

The only explicit written statement on the matter comes, originally, from Cyclonus' ''[[Transformers Universe (Marvel comic)|Transformers Universe]]'' bio, which states that he is made from the "parts of dead Decepticons". This plural body-parts origin is echoed in his much later [[Heroes of Cybertron]] bio. However, as noted above, the visuals in the scene as-animated certainly imply that it was one old body per new body, without mixing and matching, and favoring "Bombshell" as the answer because of the blocking of the shot. The movie script is silent, or rather, completely apathetic on the matter: it states that the "other Decepticons" are turned into Scourge and Cyclonus and their minions, with no statements about particular bodies.

For what it's worth in terms of [[retcon|retroactive canon-making]], [[IDW]]'s 20th anniversary adaptation, ''[[Transformers: The Animated Movie]]'', presented the scene precisely as animated in the movie, with Bombshell in the foreground declared as Cyclonus through a caption box, and Skywarp in the background marked as his armada. On the other hand, the lenticular cover to the 20th Anniversary DVD edition places Skywarp and Cyclonus in the same location, and a set of character bios included in the older R2/R4 DVD explicitly state that he was Skywarp. Tangentially, Cyclonus and Skywarp are two separate, concurrently-existing characters in the arguably post-movie setting of the [[Universe (comic)|Wreckers]] comics. However, none of these things, some coming two decades after the fact, are exactly "evidence" for what happened in the film.

Cyclonus and Scourge continued to make token appearances when the new Headmaster warriors arrived to dominate the Cybertonian war, but their intelligences seemed to markedly decrease until they were little more than cackling, bumbling henchmen - for example, during the attack on the planet [[Beest]], Cyclonus attempted to drop a rock on Rodimus Prime, but accidentally clobbered Galvatron instead, and ran away yelping in fear. Disgusted with how far the leaderless Decepticons had fallen as they eked out a miserable existence on the barren world of [[Chaar]], Cyclonus resolved to locate Galvatron, daring even to enter Unicron’s deactivated, disembodied head and replaying its memory banks, tracing Galvatron to the world of [[Thrull]]. Unfortunately, once extricated from a pool of the planet’s plasma-lava, Galvatron proved to have been driven insane from exposure to it and brutalized Cyclonus and the [[Sweep]]s before being talked down and returned to his position as leader.

As 2006 settled in, Cyclonus was captured by a [[Quintesson]] scientist for study, along with [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], [[Wreck-Gar]] and [[Marissa Faireborn]], but when the entire group was sucked through a [[black hole]] into a negative universe, they were forced to work together to escape; Cyclonus and Magnus developed a grudging respect for each other as warriors, but vowed that when they met again on the battlefield, it would be as enemies.

Some time later, outnumbered and fleeing from the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbot]]s, Cyclonus and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] took refuge inside a vortex, which transported them to the pacifistic, energy-rich planet of [[Paradron (planet)|Paradron]], which had been settled by Cybertronian refugees. Naturally, the duo immediately overthrew the planet and summoned Galvatron and the other Decepticons there; the plan was ultimately foiled by the Autobots, but at the cost of Paradron itself, which was destroyed. Cyclonus later had his body possessed by the ghost of the deceased Decepticon, Starscream, and went on to clash with Ultra Magnus again aboard the Autobot records asteroid with the fate of [[Daniel Witwicky]] in the balance.

When a group of Decepticons, tired of being beaten and abused by the deranged Galvatron, confronted Cyclonus and demanded that he do something about the situation, Cyclonus was so short on options that he accepted the advice of a Quintesson, and tricked Galvatron into accompanying him to the therapeutic mental institution on planet [[Torkulon]]. It pained Cyclonus to see his leader so demented as each attempted therapy met with failure, but when the Torkuli attempted to cure Galvatron by removing the damaged part of his mind, thereby leaving him a vegetable, Cyclonus sprang into action, only to be restrained. Patched into the sentient network of the planet, rather than be cured, Galvatron infected the world itself with his madness and freed himself, decimating the planet and decided to turn his attention back to fighting the Autobots, rather than dwell on Cyclonus' deception.

Later, Cyclonus was among the Transformers turned into an energy vampire by the [[Trans-Organic]] [[Dweller]], thrown to the beast by Galvatron to delay his own fate – though he hesitated for a moment before fleeing, almost repentant for his action. Later still, he, along with a group of Autobots and Quintessons, were transported into a region of space cordoned off by the Quintessons, landing on the planet [[Zamojin]], where Cyclonus aided the Quintessons in acquiring [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]’s [[Universal Emulator]], in order to repair their systems and return to normal space. When the [[Hate Plague]] swept the universe, Cyclonus was infected and took leadership of the afflicted Decepticons, hunting down Galvatron and tracking him and a group of Autobots into the depths of Chaar and infected scientist [[Jessica Morgan]].

In 2007, Cyclonus participated in the massive Decepticon attack on Autobot City which culminated in the theft of the key to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]]. When the chamber was then opened, the energy released blasted the key and a group of Autobots across the galaxy to the planet [[Nebulos]], and Cyclonus and Scourge led a team of Decepticons in pursuit, attacking and capturing several of the Autobots. To battle them, the remaining Autobots combined with a group of Nebulan rebels into “[[Headmaster]]s” and bested them in combat. Having learned of his fusion of Transformer and Nebulan, the [[Hive]], the evil ruling council of Nebulos, approached the Decepticons to repeat the process, but Cyclonus argued them down to taking the heads of only the animal-mode Decepticons, and merely the weapons of the others.

Consequently, Cyclonus became a [[Targetmaster]] as his handgun was converted into an exo-suit for the Hive member [[Nightstick]], giving them enhanced targeting abilities and firepower. Reclaiming the chamber key with their superior powers, the Decepticons headed back to Cybertron aboard the giant robot [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], where Cyclonus attempted to convince the disgusted Galvatron of the benefits of being bonded to the Nebulans. The Autobots soon arrived back on Cybertron and invaded Scorponok, only to be captured by the Decepticons, and almost executed by Cyclonus before being saved by [[Spike Witwicky]] and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. The Decepticons’ plan was subsequently thwarted by Spike and the Nebulans, and they were sent spiraling off through space aboard Scorponok by a tendril of plasma energy.

====Who is Cyclonus?====

When the injured Decepticons are transformed by Unicron, two identical Cyclonus robots are simultaneously created (as opposed to Scourge and the Sweeps, who were created one after the other in short order) – in the foreground, the [[Insecticon]], [[Bombshell]], becomes one, while in the background, Decepticon jet [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] becomes another. The dialogue which accompanies this scene claims that we are seeing "Cyclonus... and his [[Cyclonus's Armada|armada]]." But, clearly, one warrior does not make an armada – the line is, in fact, a carry over from the original script, in which Cyclonus was intended to have multiple identical duplicates, in the same way that Scourge had the Sweeps.

However, the idea was apparently abandoned right after this scene – the second Cyclonus immediately disappears for the remainder of the film and is abruptly replaced with a third Sweep, where only two had existed before (although despite this, some fans choose not discount the existence of the second Cyclonus, and, somewhat irreverently, refer to him as a second character actually named "[[Cyclonus's Armada|Armada]]"). The only other instances of duplicate Cyclonus robots are in ''Five Faces of Darkness, Part Five'' and ''The Quintesson Journal'', but these examples are generally discounted by fans due to the episodes' infamously poor, error-riddled animation (though it could be argued that if Bombshell were Cyclonus, he could have retained his Insecticon cloning ability to create these extra copies of himself).

As the Cyclonus duplicate, then, has the unfortunate fate of retroactively never having actually existed, the nature of the scene depicting Cyclonus' creation became open to interpretation among fans, who have long debated the question - who truly became the one and only Cyclonus who appears in the series - Bombshell or Skywarp?

The only explicit written statement on the matter comes, originally, from Cyclonus' ''[[Transformers Universe (Marvel comic)|Transformers Universe]]'' bio, which states that he is made from the "parts of dead Decepticons". This plural body-parts origin is echoed in his much later [[Heroes of Cybertron]] bio. However, as noted above, the visuals in the scene as-animated certainly imply that it was one old body per new body, without mixing and matching, and favoring "Bombshell" as the answer because of the blocking of the shot. The movie script is silent, or rather, completely apathetic on the matter: it states that the "other Decepticons" are turned into Scourge and Cyclonus and their minions, with no statements about particular bodies.

It is mainly through dissatisfaction with the asymmetry of the fates of [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and Skywarp that some fans reject the staging and favor Skywarp. The primary argument in Skywarp's favor is the following: Since Thundercracker the blue jet who was with Megatron since they were aboard the ''[[Nemesis]]'' became Galvatron's blue spaceship lieutenant, ''is simply should be'' that Skywarp the purple(-accented) jet who was with Megatron since the ''Nemesis'' would become Galvatron's purple spaceship lieutenant. Although Bombshell also has purple in his color scheme, he did not transform into a vehicle, nor was he ever part of Megatron's inner circle,so to speak.

A third camp feels that it does not matter who became Cyclonus, holding that both candidates were dead at the time, and, ultimately, arguments on the matter seem irrelevant, as Cyclonus never displays any inklings of a past life, whatever life that might have been.

On the other hand, the lenticular cover to the 20th Anniversary DVD edition places Skywarp and Cyclonus in the same location, and a set of character bios included in the older R2/R4 DVD explicitly state that he was Skywarp. ==Synopsis==
[[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], now fully restored to life by [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] and a [[Quintesson]] survivor of the rampant Hate Plague that's infecting the universe, demands to know what has happened during his time on the [[Allspark|other side]]. Sky Lynx recaps the events that had conspired to bring him back, including [[Jessica Morgan]]'s valiant play to save him from total destruction, the discovery of the [[Hate Plague]] spores, and the trap laid out by Jessica's father and her partner, Gregory Swafford to infect the Autobots with the spores in revenge, which ultimately spiraled out of control. It was thought by Rodimus, before his infection, that Prime would know what it would take to stop the plague. Prime asks who is available, and learns of the injured [[Autobot]]s. The Quintesson manages to reactivate them, completely rebuilding [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] into Goldbug. When [[Kup]] asks what the plan is, Prime admits that he doesn't have a plan. Without the accumulated wisdom within the [[Matrix of Leadership]] (which now resides in Rodimus), he doesn't have a clue as to where to start. That is, until Jessica comes forward with the experimental alloy that she, her father, and Gregory had worked on, which proved strong enough to block the spores. Theoretically, coating Optimus with this alloy would protect himself from the spore's infection and allow him to get close enough to Rodimus to extract the Matrix from him. However, all remaining alloy samples were stolen by the Decepticons. The Autobots decide to retrieve the metal.

Meanwhile, on [[Chaar]], [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] is pinned down by his own mutinously diseased soldiers, unable to fight back against their maddening ferocity...until Optimus and his team arrive to save the day, convincing Galvatron that it would be in his best interest to join in an alliance with them. As is his way, however, the Decepticon leader is suspicious of Optimus' motives, especially when he leans they need the alloy he stole, but cannot get a reason for it out of them. He leads Optimus and his gang down a series of boobytrapped tunnels, their numbers dwindling from the tunnel's natural hazards and the infected Decepticon mob behind them, until only Optimus, Galvatron, Sky Lynx, and Jessica arrive at the alloy's hiding place. Unfortunately, Jessie accidentally lets slip their plan to coat Optimus with the metal after confirming there would be enough of it to do the job, prompting Galvatron to turn on Optimus in hopes of using the process on himself, but he is soon subdued by Sky Lynx. Under coersion, Galvatron loads the alloy onto Prime's trailer, but doesn't notice that an infected Cyclonus has managed to sneak in, infecting Jessica in the process. Jessica, in turn, infects Galvatron, forcing Sky Lynx and Optimus to flee back to Earth.

Once on Earth, Optimus is coated with the alloy, and sets out to find Rodimus. He finds him, taking down infected Transformers with reckless glee, and attempts to reason with him, which fails. Unwilling to hurt his successor, Prime lures Rodimus to a nearby auto shop, attempting to peacefully subdue and talk Rodimus into helping him, but the Hate Plague is overriding any effort to do so, forcing Optimus to knock Rodimus out and take the Matrix back by force. Back at [[Autobot City]], Optimus dives into the Matrix, questioning the elders of the past in reverse chronological order (of their history) to try and find out any information on the spores, risking becoming lost within the Matrix itself. While he is doing this, the Quintesson that revived him notices a troop of infected Transformers attempting to get in, and manages to temporarily shut them out, giving Optimus the time he needs to finally find his answer. He learns that, in a period of pre-Cybertronian history, the Plague ''has'' visited the planet before, but was contained and sealed inside the star Jessica and Gregory found it in using sheer wisdom, though even back then, no one had the wisdom to destroy the spores, and now that it has spread so much throughout the galaxy, it's doubtful that anyone has the wisdom to even contain them again. Optimus then realizes that a source of raw wisdom may be available to destroy the infection once and for all: the accumulated wisdom within the Matrix of Leadership.

The infected Transformers finally break into the base, and corner the Quintesson, who begs them to stop. Galvatron grabs a metal pole, intending to impale Prime. However, Prime's chest opens to reveal a glowing Matrix, surprising the Transformers. Asking it to "light our [[darkest hour]]", Optimus Prime releases the energy of the Matrix of Leadership, which spreads across the universe and totally eradicates the Plague. It even seems to, at least temporarily, cure Gregory and Jessica's father of their hatred for Autobots, and Galvatron of his own madness, both of which call a truce with Optimus. It is then that Rodimus (now [[Hot Rod]], without the Matrix within him) notes that the Matrix is now empty, its wisdom supposedly lost in order to stop the plague. Optimus, however, disagrees; they have all become a little wiser, now, and although the Matrix is indeed empty of wisdom, it is up to them from then on to fill it again with their knowledge and experience. The episode ends with Optimus, back in command of the Autobots, ordering his troops to "Transform and roll out".
