Transformers Animated is a cartoon series which debuted in early 2008, in support of the franchise of the same name.

The cartoon is produced by Cartoon Network, scripted in the United States, with character and background designs by the crews behind shows like Teen Titans and Ben 10, while animation is being provided by Japanese studios Mook, The Answer Studio, and Studio 4°C.

Animated sees several G1 voice actors reprise their old roles (Susan Blu, Corey Burton, John Moschitta, etc.), and is the first Transformers show featuring David Kaye in which he won't be voicing Megatron.

Series details
The series eschews the ever-continuing space opera storylines of the past few anime to return to the episodic approach of Beast Wars; each episode will be a standalone story, but with an overall story arc that stretches through the whole season. The focus is being put firmly on characterization, dynamic action, and humor.

The episodes center not only on the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, but also on the Autobots' interactions with many of Detroit's human supervillain denizens, including a maladjusted marksman, a speedy racer, and a guy who looks good in a pimp suit. The idea is to present the Decepticons as more of an ongoing background threat instead of having them be repeatedly defeated each episode and look like bumbling fools. Rather, the arrival of a Decepticon in battle is supposed to be a big deal, requiring multiple Autobots working together to stop even a single one. The human villains will give the Autobots "everyday" threats--and no doubt their schemes will turn out to be the result of Decepticon treachery. Note that human adversaries are not new in Transformers continuity. However, humans as major threats is very uncommon.

Season 3 is already in the works, and season 4 is quite possible.

While the series is not a sequel to the live-action movie, they have many thematic elements in common, most notably the central role of the AllSpark and the revelation that all modern technology has been reverse-engineered from the dormant body of Megatron. Hasbro also carried over some design elements from the live-action movie into Animated designs, including not just the aforementioned cube but also Ratchet's medical readout striped deco, Bumblebee's black racing stripe, and Megatron's helmet. These are meant to be "connection points," helping kids who had seen the theatrical film but had no prior Transformers experience ease into understanding the new series.
Reception
Transformers Animated debuted January 5, 2008, at 10:30am EST as the number one television show among boys 6-11 in both cable and network television. In addition, the strength of the showing helped lift the ratings of all its neighboring shows in Cartoon Network's "Dynamite Action" scheduling block.

Trivia
* Transformers: Animated reunites Jeff Bennett, Bill Fagerbakke and Cree Summer as regular cast members. Respectively, they have previously voiced Brooklyn, Broadway and Hyena from the Gargoyles series, three characters not unlike their Transformers counterparts. Another voice actor for Gargoyles, Kath Soucie, has made a guest appearance.
* The series is the first in over a decade to re-establish the classic G1 convention of blue eyes for Autobots and red eyes for Decepticons.
* As well as the aforementioned G1 voice actors, Townsend Coleman returns to a Transformers series. He voiced Rewind in the original G1 cartoon.
* It seems like the Autobots like faceplates in this series. (i.e. Optimus, Prowl, Bumblebee, Sentinel Prime.)
* Yes, they have large chins. Shut up about it.
* Fans often point out references to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and other japanese mecha animation references in the series, though in fact, Derrick Wyatt, the chief designer, had not seen Gurren Lagann at the time of designing some of the characters, so unless they were added in post production, it's unlikely. However, this only holds true for the first series. On his blog, Derek cites some of his influences as being Diebuster and Gainax animation in general, as well as Gurren Lagann for the portion of TF Animated that was made after he had seen it(somewhere near the end of the first season). Interestingly, 2000AD and the Mighty Orbots were also cited as influences. So while the Gurren Lagann references are unlikely, the general mecha and Gainax influence are not. Transformers Animated as a whole is highly influenced by japanese mecha shows, right down to the "Super Robot Pose" sound effect it shares with Megas XLR and several old school Super Robot anime.

Transformers Animated as a whole is highly influenced by japanese mecha shows, right down to the "Super Robot Pose" sound effect it shared with Megas XLR and several old school Super Robot anime.

On his blog, Derek cites some of his influences as being Diebuster and Gainax animation in general. Interestingly, 2000AD and the Mighty Orbots were also cited as influences. So while the Gurren Lagann references are unlikely, the general mecha and Gainax influence are not. Transformers Animated as a whole is highly influenced by japanese mecha shows.

Cast
<!-- This cast list is for characters who *have appeared* in the show. Characters who we *believe* will be in the show *do not* appear here until the episode actually airs. Toy-only characters go on the Transformers Animated (toyline) page.

Currently, "Guests" are characters who have appeared only once each. This guideline will probably change as time passes. -->

Seacon

:The Seacons are a Decepticon subgroup in the Generation 1 continuity family.

The six Seacons are the Decepticons' undersea combat specialists. They all transform into mechanical beasts resembling (more or less) aquatic life forms from Earth. The six combine into the super warrior Piranacon (also spelt 'Pirranacon').

The team consists of:

* The cruel and calculating Snaptrap, their team leader. He transforms into a snapper turtle (sort of).

* The clumsy and insecure Nautilator, who transforms into lobster-monster.

* The vicious Overbite (also known as Jawbreaker in the Marvel UK comic continuity). He becomes a shark with extra limbs. Truly.

* The sneaky Seawing, a manta ray.

* The unhygenic and polluting Skalor.

* The sadistic and strong Tentakil, who transforms into a squid.

The Piranacon combination is different from most other combiner teams. Snaptrap becomes Piranacon's torso, but the smaller Seacons can become not only one of Piranacon's limbs, but also a hand weapon for the giant. It is for this reason that the five smaller toys also have a 'weapon' mode (essentially their sea-creature mode on a stand with a gun clicked on). This makes Piranacon not only a combiner, but a Targetmaster.

The Seacons were summoned to Earth by Shockwave, who had them put their undersea abilities to use fortifying the Decepticons’ sub-aquatic island headquarters. Outfitted with Earth modes by Shockwave, the Seacons were going about their task when they met with their first challenge, which also proved to be one of their greatest – they were ordered to defend the island against the insane, time-travelling future Decepticon, Galvatron. The Seacons gave a good account of themselves, merging into Piranacon for extra power, but ultimately, the team was defeated by their stronger adversary, only for Galvatron to reveal that he had not planned an attack at all, merely wishing to talk. Now, however, he claimed that Shockwave had made an enemy of him – although it was all part of a plan to destabilise his leadership. Enemy Action! Seeking a weapon that could truly combat Galvaton, Shockwave sought out the former Decepticon leader, Megatron, who had been missing in action for some time. When what was believed to be his body (but was, in actuality, a clone of him) was located in the Thames river by entrepreneur Richard Branson, Overbite was dispatched with some of the Decepticon jets to bring the body to Shockwave. Snaptrap subsequently repaired the clone’s physical damage, and aided Shockwave in using the psycho probe to brainwash it into his service. Salvage

Following this, the Seacons departed Shockwave’s service and joined with Ratbat, the leader of the primary Earth-based Decepticon force. Ratbat had relocated the Decepticons’ island base to the Florida Keys, disguising it as a holiday resort named "Club Con" to allow the Seacons to search the seabed for a sunken pirate ship, the treasure chest of which contained two Autobot tapes, Grand Slam and Raindance. The recovery mission was successful, but the tapes were then stolen by the Autobot Blaster, and the holidaymakers on the island had their peace and quiet rudely interrupted as the Seacons erupted from the ocean and attacked, searching for Blaster. In the ensuing battle, Blaster sent the tapes back to the depths of the oceans, encouraging the Seacons to call off the attack and head after them.Club Con!

The tapes, it was revealed, were sent to Earth centuries ago to warn the Autobots there of the approaching threat posed by the Underbase, a massive space-born information storehouse that could convey infinite power. Unfortunately, it was the Decepticon, Starscream, who managed to attain the Underbase’s power, turning on Autobot and Decepticon alike and attempting to conquer Earth. The Seacons were part of the attempted defence of New York, striking at Starscream from the East River, but were all deactivated by the cosmically-powered villain. Dark Star!

A few years later, in the Earthforce era, Megatron found himself lacking in troops during Decepticon civil war. Seeking to acquire more warriors, he projected his mind back in time to Starscream's attack on New York, taking possession of Snaptrap in hopes of saving the Seacons from destruction so that they might serve him in the future. He was pursued by Prowl, who prevented his scheme.
Trivia
* Although the sub-group's name is pronounced "see-cons" in commercials for the toys, some fans often opt to pronounce it "see-a-cons", probably because dey ain't smart.

Toys
The Seacons were first released in the US in 1988. They have a lot of purple and bright blue on them.
