Detailed synopsis
Full of energy and enthusiasm since becoming a Headmaster Junior, Shūta is lambasted by his soccer coach for his grandstanding plays, and lectured on the importance of working as a member of the team. After school, the three Headmasters Juniors are called to the Autobot base by Metalhawk, although Cab is held up a little by a little show put on by his pets, when his parrot accompanies his armadillo's unrolling with a caw of "Armadillo, transform!" Once the trio are gathered, Cab is a bit taken aback by an unusual look that Minerva gives him - in reality, it's just a Japanese dance pose, since she has just come from a lesson, but the two boys failure to appreciate this fact does not impress her. At that point, Hawk enters, and explains to the Juniors that Diver has invited them to join him in America. Once arriving at the Ocean Research Institute, however, they find out that they have been duped - expecting a leisurely vacation, they are, in fact, here for some serious training with their new Headmaster powers. Shūta and Cab fare quite well against the battle drones that they wind up combating in holographic simulations, but when Minerva has to rescue a puppy from a raging river, her lack of confidence causes her to fail the task. Diver is called away to investigate a sub-sea volcano and leaves the centre in the Juniors' hands, consoling Minerva before he goes and reminding her that the Masterforce requires faith.

By unfortunate coincidence, the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors are also active in America, led by Wilder on a mission of personal revenge against the motorcycle gang known as the Cool Guys, who ran his group, the Jack Boys, out of their territory and caused them to break up. They challenge the Cool Guys to a confrontation, and their Headmaster powers make short work of the thugs, and Wilder makes the gang the Decepticons' lackeys. The gang watches in rapt awe as the three boys proceed to tear through local police, and after some begging from the gang leader, Mac, Wilder allows them to join in the chaos.

While taking advantage of the institutes well-stocked cafeteria, the Autobot Headmaster Juniors are alerted to the Decepticons' attack by a news report. Shūta races for the door, but Minerva holds him back, thinking that they should call on Diver or Hawk, so that they can stick to their usual rescue operations. Shūta refuses, and Cab follows his lead; Minerva tries to stop him too, but Cab brushes off her feeling as a product of her fear of fighting. Minerva knows he is not wrong - she lacks the courage necessary to join the fight, but when watching the coverage on television, she sees a little girl and her dog caught in an explosion, and races into the thick of the battle without even thinking. She arrives as Shūta is being pursued by the three Decepticon Juniors and Cab is attempting to put out fires; when the girl's dog, Pisu, appears barking frantically, Cab is able to translate, and they follow the dog into a collapsed underground parking garage, where the girl is trapped by rubble. Although they are able to free her and tend to her injuries, Cool Guys member Priest spots them and informs Wilder. Wilder calls out a Lobclaw to deal with Shūta while the Decepticon Juniors prove their immaturity by ganging up on Minerva, although Cab holds them off while Minerva watches the girl and her dog. Pisu, however, wriggles out his owner's arms and scampers up to the robot-mode Wilder, barking at him. Irritated, Wilder kicks the poor animal, killing it outright. As the distraught little girl tosses rocks at Wilder, an emotional, furious Minerva finds the will to fight and transforms to robot mode, paralyzing Bullhorn with her shock blaster and taking down Cancer in combat. With his two team-mates having fallen, Wilder spouts a line about how he "now knows the measure of the Autobots' power," and beats a hasty retreat. Cab and Minerva then go to Shūta's aid and are able to sever the Lobclaw's claw, but then a Kraken appears to worsen the odds. Diver arrives on the scene in time to take the Kraken out, allowing the three Juniors to deal with the Kraken - Minerva paralyzes it, Cab passes the severed claw to to Shūta, and Shūta kicks it home, spearing the Lobclaw with its own limb and destroying it.

After the battle, Minerva helps the little girl set up a cliffside memorial for Pisu, and tells her she will get her a new puppy just like him. Diver commends her for her courage, and tells the three Juniors that bravery and teamwork are their greatest powers.
Transformers: Super-God Masterforce (トランスフォーマー 超神マスターフォース) is a Japanese animated series that ran throughout 1988 into the early months of 1989 for 43 broadcast episodes, in support of the toyline of the same name.

Overview
With the conclusion of the first Japanese-exclusive Transformers franchise, The Headmasters, head writer Masumi Kaneda felt that he had brought the story concepts introduced in The Transformers: The Movie to a conclusion, and sought to make a "fresh start" with Super-God Masterforce. Whereas The Headmasters had featured the existing cast of the American animated series, and gradually introduced new characters as it progressed, Super-God Masterforce was, on the surface, almost entirely divorced from what had gone before, featuring only a cast of entirely new characters in a new scenario. Although links between Masterforce and the events and characters of The Headmasters were expanded upon in various other media and articles, the series itself is remarkably self-contained, to the point of frustration, with many important background aspects not fully divulged in the course of the broadcast series.

There is a very human-centric focus in Masterforce, with the basic theme of the series being that "with the Masterforce, you too transform"m-that human beings are to be responsible for the defence of their own planet. This resulted in the very different approach the series takes, which sees the figures released that year by Hasbro as Headmasters and Powermasters reimagined as "Headmaster Juniors" and "Godmasters"m-humans beings who connect to lifeless Transtector bodies and actually become Transformers themselves. In a similar thematic move, the Autobot Pretenders do not don exterior shells and pass themselves off as "giant humans," as in American fiction, but actually perform an ill-defined holistic transformation that actually alters them at a cellular level, shrinking them down into human forms.

Storyline
After the events of The Headmasters, the Earth has been free of Transformers for several years, until the emergence of the Decepticon Pretenders. This group of villains were pursued to Earth during the Stone Age by a group of Autobots led by Metalhawk, and when both teams crash-landed on the planet, they used their special "Pretender" powers to adopt new disguises. Metalhawk and his Autobots took on the forms of human beings and began to live among the burgeoning humanity, guiding the evolution of their culture and society, while the Decepticons became monstrous creatures and tormented early man as "demons." Eventually, the Autobot Pretenders defeated the Decepticons and sealed them away, but as the series begins, they have been liberated from their prisons by the evil alien energy-being, Devil Z, to play a role in his schemes.

With the return of the Decepticons, the Autobot Pretenders are forced to drop their disguises and take up arms once again, gaining allies in three young human children (Shūta Gō, Cab and Minerva) who are imbued with the power of the "Masterforce" and bond with three Transtectors sent to Earth from the planet Master. The Decepticons recruit their own Headmasters Juniors as well, and as the battles on Earth progress, the true objective of Devil Z's plan comes to light. The arrival of Mega, Giga, Buster and Hydra heralds the quest for the "Godmasters"m-super-powerful lifeforms that are the perfect fusion of human and Transformer, able to manipulate Chokon Power. With these four warriors on the side of the Decepticons, the Autobots must find Godmasters of their own, and succeed when they are joined by a young trucker named Ginrai, who soon recruits three more Autobot Godmasters.

Incensed by this failure, Devil Z ups his plans by summoning BlackZarak (the newest incarnation of Decepticon leader Scorponok, who is busy leading the Decepticons against the Autobots out in space) to Earth. Discovering his plan, Grand Maximus races to Earth to inform the Autobots of BlackZarak's approach. Our heroes create Godbomber, a drone that serves as an upgrade for Ginrai, enabling him to transform into "God Ginrai" and fight in space, allowing him to beat BlackZarak back.

The Autobot suffer a grave loss when the final Godmaster, Doubleclouder, is discovered and sides with the Decepticons, using his ability to adopt two robot forms to infiltrate the Autobots and destroy their headquarters. Without a base of operations, the Autobots are at a disadvantage when BlackZarak returns and merges with Devil Z to bring about the destruction of Mankind. As characters lose their humanity, change their alliances and engange in final battles, everything comes down to an climactic duel between God Ginrai and BlackZarak atop the Matterhorn, where the Autobot hero must beat his opponent, or all life on Earth will be forfeit.
International releases
As one of the three series that received the RTM 1 dub treatment, Super-God Masterforce fell under the ownership of TV Loonland, and consequently was made available for potential release by Transformers license-holders. Although as of this writing it has still not been made available in North America, the entire series was released on DVD in the United Kingdom in 2006 by Metrodome in its original Japanese format plus subtitles, and its RTM1 dub was aired on the UK channel Anime Central in late 2007. Metrodome's version was released in Australia by Madman Entertainment in early 2008.
Detailed synopsis
As Raiden and Defensor repair the damage to Battleship Maximus caused by Weirdwolf's bombs, Fortress and the Autobots discuss strategies while Daniel and Wheelie take out their frustrations on video games. Fortress fears that Scorponok is going to make a fresh attempt at blowing up the Earth for it's plasma energy, and the Targetmasters advocate a divide and conquer tactic, separating the Decepticons and luring them into space to pick them off, thereby isolating Scorponok. Chromedome opposes the plan, fearing that the expanse of space is too vast a battleground, and the chance of the enemy escaping is too great. The Targetmasters dismiss his reservations and depart on a scouting mission; Chromedome is not best pleased about this, not about the fact that Fortress also agrees with their plan because of the low risk to planet Master itself.

A short time later, Chromedome leads his fellow Headmasters on a winding path through a mountainous region - his three companions all agree that the Targetmasters shouldn't be allowed to boss them around, and Chromedome is leading them to the staging ground of a plan of his own. The team arrives at an abandoned mine, which, it is revealed, is being used as a staging base by a group of young warriors-in-training to organize a strike against the Decepticons. They are greeted by the leader, Kirk, and begin planning a strategy with him.

Meanwhile, Soundblaster, his cassettes and the Decepticon Targetmaster partners are patrolling the area around the Decepticons' new base of operations, hidden within a mountain. They spot the approaching Autobot Targetmasters and alert the base - Sixshot and the Decepticon Headmasters and Targetmasters attack the three Autobots en masse, and succeeding surrounding them.

Back at the mine, Chromedome presents his strategy to an uneasy Highbrow - to lure the Decepticons into the confines of a cloudy mountain range nearby, thereby trapping them and leaving them open to attack. Just then, Hardhead and Brainstorm enter with a report from an aerial scout craft, revealing the Autobot Targetmasters' predicament. The location of this conflict allows the Chromedome to deduce the location of the Decepticon base and put the final touches to his plan, although he is left to wonder where on the map the Decepticons will make their appearance when they exit their base. At the same moment, that same scout craft distracts the attention of the Decepticon Headmasters, giving the Targetmasters the opening they need to break through the enemy barrage and escape. Returning to Battleship Maximus, they come across a battery of guns manned by young Master warriors, and suspect Chromedome's hand in their mobilization.

Back at the Decepticon base, Soundblaster reports his discovery of the alliance of the Autobot Headmasters and the Master warriors, just Scorponok announces his plan to strike at the centre of the nearby city. Just as the Targetmasters report their discovery to Fortress, prompting him to telepathically contact Chromedome to determine the truth of the matter, the Decepticons make their move - Scorponok emerges from beneath the city itself, appearing in its very heart, throwing everything into chaos as the Autobots and Master warriors are caught off-guard by this unexpected tactic. As the Targetmasters gun down civilians, the two groups of Headmasters meet in battle, which tips in favor of the Autobots when Mindwipe accidentally afflicts Skullcruncher with his hypnosis. Just then, a fleet of ships piloted by the Master warriors appear in the sky and bombard Scorponok and the Decepticons with firepower - even the multiplying powers of Sixshot are no match for the combined might of the warriors and Headmasters, and Scorponok is unable to spare the energy to transform to robot mode.

Battleship Maximus, meanwhile, is approaching the city, and arrives just as the warriors manage to successfully force the Decepticons into the midst of the cloudy mountain peaks. However, Chromedome has failed to account for one major flaw in his plan, which the Decepticons immediately exploit - by using the clouds to conceal themselves! Striking from hidden positions beneath the clouds, the Decepticons down the vast majority of the ships, including Kirk's, and Fortress convinces Chromedome to call retreat. Scorponok orders the Decepticons to pull out and make for Earth, but Fortress has other plans - transforming to Fortress Maximus, he bars their way. But this is the chance Scorponok has been waiting for, as he too assumes his robot mode, and Master Sword meets Zarak Shield in a mighty clash... and the Zarak Shield emerges triumphant!

With Fortress Maximus downed and the Decepticons on their way to Earth, Chromedome moves to follow them, but Pointblank stops him and forces him to realize the damage and loss of life his strategy has caused. Kirk stumbles from the wreckage of his craft, and Chromedome apologises for putting his life in danger; Kirk says that he is equally to blame, as he was well aware of what he was getting himself into. The two friends shake hands, and soon after, Battleship Maximus heads back into space, hot on the trail of the Decepticons.
Animation and/or technical glitches
*Throughout this episode, several robots appear based on the animation models of the Headmaster Warriors. The only referred to by name is Kirk, but his color scheme is nothing like his actual toy, leaving it unclear whether or not any of the generic, unnamed robots are intended to be the actual characters, afflicted with a similar case of color-blindness. See the characters' own articles for details.

Transformers references
*Battleship Maximus was damaged in the previous episode.
*Scorponok has been working on the Zarak Shield since "The Master Sword Is in Danger!!".
*Daniel is using his video game light gun (originally introduced in "Find MegaZarak's Weak Spot!!") again in this episode - it's back to just being a toy now, after being upgraded into a real pistol by Highbrow in "The Master Sword is in Danger!!"
*Skullcruncher has previously been accidentally hypnotised by Mindwipe in both "Four Warriors Come Out Of The Sky" and "Explosion on Mars!! Maximus Is in Danger."

*Arise! Headmaster of Anger plays once more as Fortress Maximus and Scorponok battle. This time, however, the Malaysian dub does not cut the song out.
*Often translated as: "Terror of the Six Shadows"

Detailed synopsis
The Trainbots have brought Daniel and Wheelie on a trip to their birthplace of Japan, but the fun is brought to a crashing halt when a video transmission cuts into a large-screen television on the side of a building, displaying a shadowy robotic figure who demands the entirety of Japan's energy, or he will destroy the country. Unable to identify the mystery mech, Ultra Magnus contacts Athenia, and Rodimus Prime and the Autobot Headmasters depart for Earth.

On Chaar, Cyclonus and Scourge are incensed that anyone other than the Decepticons would dare to steal Earth's energy, and vow to steal it from the unknown robot, despite a strange lack of interest in their plan from Galvatron and the Decepticon Headmasters. Heading to Earth, they receive no more help from a relaxing Sixshot.

Back on Earth, the Autobots have discovered that, in addition to Japan, five other countries have been threatened by shadowy beings - America by a giant gun, the USSR by a tank, Great Britain by a winged wolf, France by a jet and Canada by an armored car. The Trainbots, however, are not worried, convinced that their six-strong team can handle the six blackmailers, but their relaxation is interrupted by the discovery of Ratbat, spying on the group. Rabat escapes and returns to Soundblaster, who reports back to the Decepticon base that the Autobot Headmasters have come to Earth. Cyclonus and Scourge, however, are more concerned with he revelation that there are six enemies to fight, even if Sixshot is not.

In London, the winged wolf shows itself, and the Headmasters and Metroplex head out, only to arrive too late. While they are there, however, New York is attacked by the giant gun, and both the Autobots and Cyclonus and Scourge are unable to get there in time to stop it. As Rodimus speculates that the blackmailers will hit Japan next, Daniel and the Trainbots enter - the brash young Headmasters are disgusted that they have been shopping in Tokyo while everyone else has been worried about the blackmailers. The Trainbots profess to have been patrolling Japan while Daniel shopping, but an argument ensues, and when Daniel tries to intervene, Chromedome silences the boy, causing him to run from the room. Chromedome follows, seeking to make amends, and discovers Daniel playing with a ninja star that he purchased. Intrigued, Chromedome learns from Daniel of Earth's stories of ninjas, and their ability to appear in many places at once, and the stories stir up the memory of the time an energy-stealing ninja able to duplicate himself and transform into six shapes visited planet Master and killed his friend Abel. Realising that the ninja is definitely their blackmailer, Chromedome vows revenge.

Tokyo soon comes under attack from the robotic villain, and the Trainbots plead to be allowed to defend their homeland. Rodimus allows it, and the team heads for Earth, merging into their combined form of Raiden to thrash the blackmailer. The fight takes a new twist, however, when Cyclonus and Scourge arrive with Trypticon, and the Headmasters rush to the Trainbots' aid, fending off Trypticon while Raiden deals with the blackmailer's various forms. Transforming the jet mode, the villain flees, but is pursued by both the Autobots and Cyclonus and Scourge, and when he is finally brought down, his identity is finally revealed - Sixshot! Duplicating and transforming to wolf mode, Sixshot savages Raiden, but the Headmasters, seeking to avenge Abel, beat him down and send him retreating.

Back on Chaar, an enraged Galvatron - in on the plan the whole time - pummels Cyclonus and Scourge for their incompetence, while on Earth, the Headmasters and Trainbots reconcile, and all is well.
Other notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
*When Sixshot attacks Tokyo in robot mode in the final stages of the episode, rather than being entirely shrouded in shadow, as he has been up to this point, he is in full colour. Although it was always astonishingly obvious that he was Sixshot just based on his silhouette, this must surely be a mistake, as the shocked reaction to his true identity does not come until he is blasted from sky some minutes later.
*London is depicted as a fog-shrouded forest that people ride through on horseback. For God's sake.
*Ultra Magnus is sporting his all-white antennae again in this episode.
*During the flashback, the mysteriously shadowed Sixshot is using Twincast's weapon, which is also mysteriously shadowed.

Transformers references
*For Transformers fans who already own his toy or otherwise know Sixshot's deal, it's really quite easy to forget the fact that this is the first time he has displayed his six-changing abilities in the series (indeed, it is the first time he has transformed at all, aside from the commercial bumper), hence the confusion of all the other characters. It also does not help the story that you can tell it's blatantly him from the second his robot-mode silhouette appears.
*In addition to debuting Sixshot's transformations, it also introduces his assorted ninja-related powers, including the ability to create numerous solid-light duplciates of himself (and, apparently, the ability to remain entirely cloaked in shadow, even in the middle of a shade-free, sun-baked desert). He'll be making good use of this power, and more, later in the series.
*The Trainbots merge into Raiden for the first time in this episode, but this is treated with shockingly little dramatic flourish, especially for Japan - in fact, absolutely nothing special is made of this first combination at all. Perhaps it's because we've been seeing them do it in the opening credits for eight episodes already, completely stifling any sense of surprise about the whole thing.

Miscellaneous trivia
*Along with "Thief in the Night", this is another episode which proves that the Soviet Union's 1991 collapse didn't occur in the animated series continuity. It's almost like it was produced before that happened, or something!
*This episode originally aired in a double-bill with "Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1" on September 4th.
*What appears to be part of the Ark can be seen in an outside shot of Autobot City, although the ship was destroyed much earlier in Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5.
