==Synopsis==
[[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] arrives at [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Battleship Maximus]] to inform the [[Autobot]]s of the emergence of the third [[Death Tower]] in [[Washington, D.C.]]. Mapping out the locations of the existing towers, Fortress speculates on the location of the fourth tower, and they theorise that the [[Decepticon]]s may be hiding beneath the [[Mediterranean Sea]]. [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] goes one better, putting the pieces of the puzzle together—according to [[Earth]] legends, the ancient continent of [[Lemuria (G1)|Lemuria]] was said to have sunk beneath the [[Indian Ocean]], and could be where the Decepticons are getting the [[crysmagnetal]] used to make the Death Towers. Just then, a report comes in from [[Punch (G1)|Punch]], revealing that [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] is outfitting the various Death Towers with energy induction boosters to amplify their effects, and that the fourth tower is about to be set up in [[Cairo]], [[Egypt]]. Battleship Maximus immediately lifts off for Egypt.

Meanwhile, [[Sixshot]] is already in Egypt, examining the area. And he's not the only Decepticon around—[[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]] is stationed in the [[Alps]], and reports to [[Apeface]], standing guard by a pyramid, that Battleship Maximus is approaching. Apeface alerts Scorponok, and the Decepticon [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] are sent out to attack. They clash with the Autobot Headmasters on the hull of Maximus, revealing their new "[[Trio Formation]]"—they transform to beast mode and stack on top of each other like a totem pole. The Autobots are not quite sure what to make of it, but any worries are taken care of when Apeface and [[Snapdragon (G1)|Snapdragon]] pile on top of the formation, unbalancing it; Fortress then fires Maximus's boosters, and the sudden jolt sends the villains toppling off. At that point, the fourth Death Tower emerges!

In [[San Francisco]], while [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] is talking with his injured [[Carly|mother]], Wheelie reports that Fortress has called for all available Autobots. [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] tells Daniel that he will take care of Carly, and not to be distracted from the task before him, and Daniel and Wheelie head off.

Back in Egypt, Scorponok directs [[Wingspan]] and [[Pounce]], seemingly repaired after their clash with Sixshot, in setting the energy induction booster into the Death Tower. With this task accomplished, the tower begins to surge violently with energy, and Scorponok emerges from beneath the desert sands and orders the Decepticons to climb aboard. Cackling that even Fortress has a role in his plan, Scorponok lifts off, promising to see the Autobots at the [[North Pole]]. Fortress transforms into Fortress Maximus and attempts to stop him, but a tendril of energy from the Death Tower blasts him out of the sky. Sixshot, however, is able to stay on Scorponok's tail, and follows him as he dives deep into the Indian Ocean and vanishes into the inky depths. Sixshot finds himself caught up in a sub-aquatic whirlpool, and when he is disgorged, is stunned to discover that he has been swept into the undersea ruins of Lemuria! Scorponok is stunned to see Sixshot alive, but maintains his facade of happiness at the ninja's safe return, and shows him the furnace that is smelting the crysmagnetal. After Scorponok explains that the Earth will be destroyed thanks to the energy-accumulating satellite he has placed in orbit, Sixshot bids him farewell, and Scorponok accuses him of scheming to betray him. Scorponok opens fire on the ninja, but his blast passes harmlessly through him—he has merely fired upon one of Sixshot's hologram duplicates, and the true Sixshot escapes.

With energy emissions from all the Death Towers increasing, and a fifth Death Tower appearing at the South Pole, Earth is encircled by a field of energy that is wreaking havoc with the natural balance of the planet. Following Scorponok's last words, Fortress pilots Battleship Maximus to the North Pole, with the whole Autobot army in tow. Unsurprisingly, the entire Decepticon army is waiting for them, with a dais of inactive crysmagnetal behind them. A hail of laser fire heralds the beginning of a colossal battle—Battleship Maximus collides with the [[Zarak Shield]], the Targetmasters square off, [[Blaster (G1)|Twincast]] and his cassettes save [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] from [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]]'s hypnosis, and Fortress becomes Fortress Maximus to confront Scorponok directly. As the two giant foes grapple, Scorponok distracts Maximus by telling him to watch out for their fortress overhead—a complete lie that Maximus falls straight into, allowing Scorponok to deprive him of the [[Master Sword]] and knock him aside. Wheelie and Daniel come to his aid, distracting Scorponok with a few blasts of their own and allowing Maximus to regain his sword, but then [[Battletrap]] attacks the two youths. A laser beam comes out of nowhere to strike Battletrap, who is then tackled by [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]; Daniel realizes that Sixshot has come to their rescue, but the ninja refuses to show himself, until [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] attempts to stomp Daniel, forcing Sixshot to save him. Sixshot tells Daniel to take care of himself, and vanishes once more.

Meanwhile, Fortress Maximus and Scorponok's duel has moved, allowing Scorponok to position himself on the crysmagnetal dais. As Fortress leaps at his opponent, a glint of light in the sky heralds the arrival overhead of the energy-absorbing satellite, which discharges its energy back into the dais, completing the circuit and threatening to tear the Earth apart. With both Maximus and Scorponok caught in the beam, Scorponok disconnects from his [[transtector]], retreating to the fringes of Earth's atmosphere with the rest of the Decepticons to watch. The Headmasters attempt to power up their commander, entering [[Head Formation]] and sending their energy to him, but it is not enough, and Fortress begins to buckle. Daniel recalls Sixshot telling him about the strong bond of friendship the Autobots have, and hits upon the idea to have all the Autobots lend Maximus their strength. Wheelie calls out to the assembled Autobot forces, and they all link arms in a ring around the Headmasters—thus combined in "Final Formation", the Headmasters channel the combined energy of the entire Autobot army into Fortress Maximus. Supercharged by his troops, Fortress Maximus uses the Master Sword to redirect the energy beam back into the satellite, destroying it, much to the shock of the watching Decepticons. Then, with a single slash of his mighty blade, Fortress Maximus destroys the Zarak Shield and bisects Scorponok's transtector, which explodes into smithereens.

Time passes. With the victory at the North Pole, the Decepticon forces have finally been broken, and they withdraw from Earth, but they still pose a threat to the other planets in the universe, and it is the duty of the Autobots to pursue them and stop them. As the entirety of the Autobots forces gather to leave Earth for good, Fortress, the Headmasters and Wheelie say goodbye to Daniel, Spike and Carly. The farewell between Daniel and Wheelie is especially tearful, and the two vow to see each other again. Battleship Maximus lifts off, and Daniel cries out his goodbyes, which echo through the air as the Autobots vanish into the setting sun.

Whoops!
*Despite it seeming very much like Sixshot killed them last episode (knocking their heads off, with wires and circuits lying all over the place), Wingspan and Pounce are up and about with no ill effects here.

As [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Battleship Maximus]] races after [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] in the final leg of their journey back to [[Earth]], strange happenings are afoot down on the planet itself. In an ancient theater in [[Athens]], [[Greece]], [[Wingspan]] and [[Pounce]] disrupt a group of tourists when they emerges from beneath the ground, accompanied by a large machine that launches a sinister satellite into orbit. At the same time, off the coast of [[Lisbon]], [[Portugal]], [[Predaking]] and [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] sink the luxury liner ''[[Queen World]]''. News of these attacks reaches [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] and [[Carly]] at [[Autobot City]], and although they attempt to map the location of the Decepticons' staging base using the information, they are more concerned with the fact that these attacks have come just as the continuing operation to restore past damage caused by the villains around the planet has reached a crucial stage. Refusing to halt the plan, Spike dispatches the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], [[Throttlebot]]s and Autobot [[Clone (subgroup)|Clones]] to attend the situation.

Back out in space, Battleship Maximus pushes all its systems to the limit to catch up with Scorponok. [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] is eager to get into the thick of the fighting, and teases the brooding [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]], who is dwelling on the apparent death of [[Sixshot]], and the possibility of war on Earth. Believing that Scorponok has reached Earth at this point, Chromedome apologizes for accepting Sixshot's challenge and delaying the group, but [[Pointblank]] tells him that it is in the past, and not to lose his fighting spirit for the battles in the future—immediately leading to a serious ribbing for Chromedome from the other Headmasters over his new "best friend". [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] contacts Autobot City, and [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] gives him the bad news, even as Battleship Maximus plunges into Earth's atmosphere... an unpleasant trip for the surprising hitchhiker clinging to the hull—Sixshot!

Meanwhile, the mysterious Decepticon activities on Earth continue, with the emergence of a mysterious metal tower in [[Canberra]], [[Australia]], where the Protectobots battle Bruticus. Elsewhere, in [[Santiago]], [[Chile]], another one of these "[[Death Tower]]s" appears, and the Throttlebots and clones investigate and find Predaking waiting for them. At that point, Battleship Maximus sets down on Earth, and is met by Metroplex, who reveals these new developments to the assembled [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] and [[Targetmaster]]s. The Targetmasters head off to investigate the Santiago Death Tower, while the Headmasters confer on the situation; Fortress realises that the two Death Towers are on the same latitude in the Southern Hemisphere, and expects to see two more appear in the North before long, suspecting that they are part of Scorponok's plan to blow up Earth. In the middle of the meeting, [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] rushes in with the bad news that Spike's aircraft has made an emergency landing in the [[Andes Mountains]] while on the way to Santiago. The distressed Daniel, unsure if his parents are alive or dead, insists on accompanying the Headmasters on the search for the downed plane. While the team departs in the [[Trainbot]]s, Fortress meets with [[Punch (G1)|Punch]], hoping he has information on Scorponok's landing site. Alas, Punch has little to offer—Scorponok landed in the [[Strait of Gibraltar]] and Punch (as Counterpunch) disembarked, but the giant scorpion vanished before he could even turn around.

Meanwhile, the Targetmasters arrive in the midst of the battle in Santiago, and Pointblank downs Predaking with a single shot. [[Sureshot (G1)|Sureshot]] attempts to scan the Death Tower, but just then, it surges with energy so powerful that it causes his scanner to blow up. As the watch, a crackling stream of energy flows from the tower's peak, with the same thing occurring in Australia. There, Wingspan and Pounce arrive to inform Bruticus that they are pulling out; [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] attempts to pursue, but the energy from the Death Tower blasts him out of the sky.

In the Andes, Daniel, Wheelie, the Headmasters and the Trainbots arrive at the scene of Spike's rough landing, where several people—Spike included—are attempting to hoist up several unfortunate passengers who have fallen down a crevasse, including an unconscious Carly. Daniel demands to be allowed to rescue his mother personally, much to the surprise of his father, and performs the task admirably. They report back to Battleship Maximus on their success, where Fortress has deduced that the Death Towers are drawing energy from the Earth's core.

Elsewhere, Bruticus and the Decepticon clones cross paths with Sixshot, and are suspicious when he does not know that they are supposed to rendezvous with Scorponok at the [[North Pole]]. Bruticus is sent on ahead as the clones talk about the [[plasma energy]]-collecting satellite they put into orbit; having gained enough information from them, Sixshot suddenly lashes out at them, decapitating them and departing.

Back at Battleship Maximus once again, Daniel and co. return aboard the Trainbots, just as the Targetmasters arrive to report their findings. Their scans had revealed that the Death Towers are composed of a mysterious substance from an ancient civilisation known as "[[crysmagnetal]]", which emits electro-magnetic radiation when it comes into contact with energy. Just then, the third Death Tower bursts from beneath the ground in [[Washington, D.C.]], and Scorponok's plan to destroy the Earth grows one step closer to completion...!

With the [[Autobot]]s aboard [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Battleship Maximus]] still hot on the tail of [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] and the [[Decepticon]]s on the return trip to [[Earth]], a report comes in from the [[Targetmaster]]s that the villains are now progressing slowly through the asteroid belt within the [[Solar System]]. [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] calculates that they will now be able to catch up to the Decepticons before they reach Earth—something that becomes even more likely when the Decepticons are forced to set down on the asteroid [[Pallas]] in order to perform maintenance on their propulsion system. While conducting the repair work, the Decepticon [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] speculate on whether or not [[Sixshot]] will return, but any debate is put to rest when the ninja suddenly appears, streaking through space and landing in front of them. He meets with Scorponok, well aware that he was deliberately abandoned by the schemer, but is treated to a string of platitudes praising his abilities and indispensability, as Scorponok claims he always knew Sixshot could survive on his own.

Meanwhile, Battleship Maximus has arrived at the asteroid belt and receives information regarding Scorponok's location from the Targetmasters; however, even as they communicate this, they come under attack from the Decepticons, and the Autobot Headmasters head out with the [[Trainbot]]s to rescue them. As the inevitable battle ensues, Scorponok charges Sixshot with taking the Headmasters out of the fight. Sixshot proposes challenging [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] to a duel on the asteroid [[Juno]], taking him out in a one-on-one battle to cripple the unit. Sixshot enters the battle, and issues his challenge to Chromedome, who accepts. Scorponok, however, has a plan within this plan, and gives the [[Duocon]]s a bomb to plant on Juno...

Elsewhere, Battleship Maximus has landed on the asteroid [[Ceres]], where [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] forbids Chromedome from duelling Sixshot on pain of expulsion from the Autobot ranks. Chromedome is determined to settle his long-standing score with Sixshot, and as he and Fortress argue, [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] happens to overhear, and tells [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] about the duel. [[My Friend Sixshot!|His experience with Sixshot]] fresh in his mind, Daniel does not want to see two beings that he calls friends fight, and both he and the other Headmasters attempt to talk Chromedome out of the duel. Chromedome, however, is insistent—he would rather face the dishonor of expulsion than be thought of as a coward for turning down a challenge. [[Pointblank]] later approaches Chromedome on the issue, but upon hearing Chromedome's determination, he relents, and recounts a time when he once did something very similar, only to be reprimanded by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. Telling Chromedome that it is his decision, Pointblank gives him his blessing, and Chromedome departs for the battle. Pointblank and the Headmasters watch him go, but are suddenly called inside by Fortress when Scorponok blasts off, using the duel as a distraction to head for Earth at full speed. When Wheelie discovers that Daniel has left the ship in his [[exosuit]] in order to try and stop the duel, Pointblank heads out to find him so that Battleship Maximus can focus on following the Decepticons.

On Juno, Chromedome is ready and waiting when Sixshot appears with a rush of wind and a flash of light. The duel begins immediately, and it is not long before Daniel appears in the sky overhead, pleading for them to stop. Daniel throws himself between the two combatants, but Sixshot denies any friendship between himself and the boy. Daniel challenges Sixshot to simply shoot him, but Sixshot is not able to bring himself to pull the trigger... at least, not before Scorponok's bomb detonates, and begins to tear Juno apart. Sixshot calls off the duel in the name of saving Daniel, allowing Chromedome to escape with the boy, but Scorponok is watching from afar, and triggers further explosions. Daniel almost falls down a crevasse that opens beneath his feet, but Sixshot saves him, and is then caught in a jet of flame that erupts from beneath the ground. As Chromedome and Daniel watch, Juno is completely consumed in a fireball, leaving no trace of Sixshot.

Returning to Battleship Maximus with Pointblank, Chromedome is happily accepted back into the Autobots. The mood is good, but Daniel can't help but wonder what has become of Sixshot; Chromedome assures Daniel that the ninja is not that easy to get rid of, cheering Daniel up. And now, Maximus draws near to Earth, and the final battle is about to begin...!

The [[Decepticon]]s are headed for [[Earth]] at full speed after their departure from [[Master (planet)|Master]], but find an asteroid storm directly in their path. Despite Sixshot's belief that they should go around, [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] insists that they go through, with predictably painful results, setting the ninja and his commander at each other's throats.

Battleship Maximus, on the other hand, diverts its course around the asteroids, and while the [[Autobot]]s are voyaging smoothly along, Daniel and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] sneak inside the ship's laser turret to see what it's like. [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] almost notices the door opening on his screens, but Scorponok comes into view, and it is quickly forgotten as battle stations are assumed. Unfortunately for Daniel, this means that blast doors fall into place throughout the ship, cutting him off from Wheelie and trapping him in the turret. To make matters worse, a hit from Scorponok strikes the turret and causes it to malfunction, prompting the unwitting Headmasters to jettison it from the craft, with Daniel inside! At the same time, Scorponok orders Sixshot to disembark the ship and attack Maximus personally—both he and the laser turret are then swept up in the asteroid storm and are sent hurtling through space. Scorponok is not exactly concerned with the loss of Sixshot, and continues on his way to Earth; discovering Daniel's fate, the Autobot [[Targetmaster]]s keep on Scorponok's trail while the Headmasters turn their attention to finding and rescuing their human friend.

Daniel, meanwhile, have crash-landed on the barren planet [[Daira]], a world which is actually one large living organism. Recovering first, Sixshot explores and comes upon the laser turret, popping it open and finding the unconscious Daniel inside. Daniel promptly awakens, and is horrified to see the Decepticon ninja looming over him, but Sixshot tells him to relax—he's not in the habit of killing children. Daniel is naturally untrusting, and Sixshot, not bothered, simply gets up and walks away. Within seconds, however, a rocky humanoid creature suddenly appears and attempts to seize Daniel from behind. Sixshot opens fire on it, blowing it to pebbles, and realizes that it must be one of Daira's fabled rock-people. Daniel is unsure what to make of the situation, having been saved by a Decepticon, but the unease is set aside when he spots a strange rainbow in the sky—in truth, it is an energy shield, impervious to Sixshot's blasts, that has been set up by the rock-people to keep them in one place.

Back out in space, the Autobots successfully deduce the trajectory of the winds that pulled Daniel away, and immediately set course after him. A little time has passed on Daira, meanwhile, and Sixshot and Daniel are simply sitting, waiting, on a cliff-edge. Sixshot inquires if Daniel has any food, and the solitary home-made [[space ration]] that he has with him only reminds him of his parents. Sixshot insists that he eat it now, to build up his strength for when the rock-people return; Daniel is amazed at how different Sixshot seems to him. Sixshot brushes off his kindness, simply telling Daniel not to overestimate him. It is at that point that the rock-people arrive en masse, and Daniel and Sixshot work together to reduce them to rubble.

More time passes, and while the Autobots on Battleship Maximus deal with the difficult task of riding the asteroid storm, Daniel and Sixshot track the rock-people back to their base of operations. It consists purely of a massive, flaming pit—a furnace-like "mouth" of sorts for the living planet, into which the rock-people hurl "food" in the form of wrecked spaceships, fallen meteorites, or whatever else is unfortunate enough to fit the bill. Sixshot is in favor of completely destroying the living planet, to eliminate the shield holding them in, but Daniel is sure that Battleship Maximus will come. The two admit the strange, inexplicable kinship they feel, and Sixshot promises to return Daniel to Earth. Once again, the rock-creatures attack, but this time, Daniel is seized, and almost tossed into the flames, before Sixshot comes to his rescue.

In space, Battleship Maximus is still buffeted by space-winds, unable to break free of the hurricane they have trapped themselves in, until [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] fires the ship's freeze ray, crystallizing the atmosphere and allowing them to break through. They can see planet Daira in the distance, and, noticing that nearby asteroids are being drawn down to it, realize that Daniel probably went the same way.

Down on Daira, the rock-creatures revive and plunge themselves into the flame-pit, where they are fused together into one, gigantic stone monster. The creature seems impervious to attack from any of Sixshot's modes, but when Daniel opens fire on it, sheer luck sees him strike its weak point, between its eyes. Sixshot transforms to wolf mode and hits it just right, taking its head off its shoulders and destroying it outright. At that point, Battleship Maximus appears overhead and lands in front of the pair; the Headmasters emerge and, mistaking the situation, demand that Sixshot hand Daniel over. Daniel explains the situation to the amazed Headmasters, but Chromedome in particular is not totally convinced. Sixshot departs quickly, even as Daniel calls after him.

A little later, as Battleship Maximus continues on his way, Daniel laments that Sixshot will be returning to the Decepticons, and says that without the war, he is sure they could be friends. The Headmasters silently agree, but more fighting is ahead, as [[Pointblank]] reports in that Scorponok has just entered Earth's solar system...

As [[Raiden]] and [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] repair the damage to Battleship Maximus caused by [[Weirdwolf]]'s bombs, [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] and the [[Autobot]]s discuss strategies while [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] take out their frustrations on video games. Fortress fears that [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] is going to make a fresh attempt at blowing up the [[Earth]] for its [[plasma energy]], and the [[Targetmaster]]s advocate a divide and conquer tactic, separating the [[Decepticon]]s and luring them into space to pick them off, thereby isolating Scorponok. [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] opposes the plan, fearing that the expanse of space is too vast a battleground, and the chance of the enemy escaping is too great. The Targetmasters dismiss his reservations and depart on a scouting mission; Chromedome is not best pleased about this, nor about the fact that Fortress also agrees with their plan because of the low risk to planet [[Master (planet)|Master]] itself.

A short time later, Chromedome leads his fellow [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]]s on a winding path through a mountainous region—his three companions all agree that the Targetmasters shouldn't be allowed to boss them around, and Chromedome is leading them to the staging ground of a plan of his own. The team arrives at an abandoned mine, which, it is revealed, is being used as a staging base by [[Autobot Master Warrior|a group of young warriors-in-training]] to organize a strike against the Decepticons. They are greeted by the leader, [[Kirk]], and begin planning a strategy with him.

Meanwhile, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]], his cassettes and the Decepticon Targetmaster partners are patrolling the area around the Decepticons' new base of operations, hidden within a mountain. They spot the approaching Autobot Targetmasters and alert the base—[[Sixshot]] and the Decepticon Headmasters and Targetmasters attack the three Autobots en masse, and succeeding surrounding them.

Back at the mine, Chromedome presents his strategy to an uneasy [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]]—to lure the Decepticons into the confines of a cloudy mountain range nearby, thereby trapping them and leaving them open to attack. Just then, [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] and [[Brainstorm]] enter with a report from an aerial scout craft, revealing the Autobot Targetmasters' predicament. The location of this conflict allows the Chromedome to deduce the location of the Decepticon base and put the final touches to his plan, although he is left to wonder where on the map the Decepticons will make their appearance when they exit their base. At the same moment, that same scout craft distracts the attention of the Decepticon Headmasters, giving the Targetmasters the opening they need to break through the enemy barrage and escape. Returning to Battleship Maximus, they come across a battery of guns manned by young Master warriors, and suspect Chromedome's hand in their mobilization.

Back at the Decepticon base, Soundblaster reports his discovery of the alliance of the Autobot Headmasters and the Master warriors, just Scorponok announces his plan to strike at the centre of the nearby city. Just as the Targetmasters report their discovery to Fortress, prompting him to telepathically contact Chromedome to determine the truth of the matter, the Decepticons make their move—Scorponok emerges from beneath the city itself, appearing in its very heart, throwing everything into chaos as the Autobots and Master warriors are caught off-guard by this unexpected tactic. As the Targetmasters gun down civilians, the two groups of Headmasters meet in battle, which tips in favor of the Autobots when [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]] accidentally afflicts [[Skullcruncher]] with his hypnosis. Just then, a fleet of ships piloted by the Master warriors appear in the sky and bombard Scorponok and the Decepticons with firepower—even the multiplying powers of Sixshot are no match for the combined might of the warriors and Headmasters, and Scorponok is unable to spare the energy to transform to robot mode.

Battleship Maximus, meanwhile, is approaching the city, and arrives just as the warriors manage to successfully force the Decepticons into the midst of the cloudy mountain peaks. However, Chromedome has failed to account for one major flaw in his plan, which the Decepticons immediately exploit—by using the clouds to ''conceal'' themselves! Striking from hidden positions beneath the clouds, the Decepticons down the vast majority of the ships, including Kirk's, and Fortress convinces Chromedome to call retreat. Scorponok orders the Decepticons to pull out and make for Earth, but Fortress has other plans—transforming to Fortress Maximus, he bars their way. But this is the chance Scorponok has been waiting for, as he too assumes his robot mode, and [[Master Sword]] meets [[Zarak Shield]] in a mighty clash... and the Zarak Shield emerges triumphant!

With Fortress Maximus downed and the Decepticons on their way to Earth, Chromedome moves to follow them, but Pointblank stops him and forces him to realize the damage and loss of life his strategy has caused. Kirk stumbles from the wreckage of his craft, and Chromedome apologises for putting his life in danger; Kirk says that he is equally to blame, as he was well aware of what he was getting himself into. The two friends shake hands, and soon after, Battleship Maximus heads back into space, hot on the trail of the Decepticons.

Unable to find a trace of the Decepticons on planet [[Master (planet)|Master]], the Autobot [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] have taken to space in Battleship Maximus to scan for their enemies, fearing that they can use [[G-Metal]] and the stolen secrets of the [[Master Sword]] to create a powerful weapon. Indeed, the Autobots are right to search in space—the Decepticons aboard [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] have concealed themselves from the Autobots' radar by hiding in a field of space dust. [[Skullcruncher]] gets confused when [[Weirdwolf]] and [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]] tell him that space dust is alien debris, but the [[Targetmaster|Targetmasters]] get them to leave him alone, the Decepticons head back towards Master after Battleship Maximus moves out of range.

The Autobot Targetmasters are not convinced that the Decepticons have left Master, (correctly) speculating that they have a base hidden beneath the planet's surface. As they talk with [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] on the matter, however, they discover that they are being observed by [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]], who has snuck on board the ship with [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]]. Having been found out, Soundblaster leaps off the ship and flies back down to Master, with the Targetmasters hot on his heels. In a change of pace, rather than join the pursuit, the Headmasters use their heads and construct a machine that, once connected to the Master Sword, will allow them to detect the energy wavelength necessary to create a similar weapon.

Down on the surface of Master, the Targetmasters land amidst a rocky mountainscape, but are ambushed by their Decepticon counterparts, who were aware of their approach thanks to Soundblaster's advance warning. The villains break open the walls of a mountain lake, washing away the Autobots. Believing them dead, they report their victory to the other Decepticons in their underground base, but [[Sixshot]] points out that their disappearance will surely make Fortress suspicious. With Scorponok's new weapon, the [[Zarak Shield]], nearing completion, Sixshot leads an attack force to distract the attention of the approaching Autobots. The Autobot Targetmasters, however, have survived, and observe from a distance as the attack force flies out of a cave; they suspect the presence of a Decepticon base.

As the Headmasters debate the fate of the Targetmasters aboard Battleship Maximus (not entirely unamused at the notion that the "more experienced" trio could have been captured), the report from the Targetmasters is received, with their suspect cave proving to be on the same course as the Headmasters' detector is leading them. Naturally, they cross paths with the Decepticons, who lead them off in the wrong direction, but Fortress immediately recognizes their deception, and changes course back to the Targetmaster's reported location. Once in range, their detector goes off, and the four young Headmasters disembark the battleship with a portable detector to find the base themselves.

At the same time, Weirdwolf decides that he has had enough of trickery and running around, and breaks ranks to pursue the departing Maximus. Catching up to the ship, he plants two explosives; [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] and [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] are topside watching the sunset, and he deliberately catches their attention by tapping on the hull, in order to keep their attention on him and prevent discovery of the bombs. Fortress comes to their aid, and Weirdwolf retreats, his bombs still in place.

Down below, the Headmasters follow the detector to the dried-out lake bed, and the earth gives way beneath their feet, sending them toppling into the tunnels leading to the Decepticons' cavern base below. The Autobot Targetmasters have already entered the caverns, and send their small Targetmaster partners into the base to investigate, but the gung-ho tactics of the Headmasters provoke a battle when they give away their location to the Decepticons. To prolong the battle so that he may finish construction of the Zarak Shield, Scorponok sends the [[Duocon|Duocons]] into the fray, at which point the Autobot Targetmaster partners emerge from the base and reconnect with their larger partners. With no options left, Scorponok loads the unfinished Zarak Shield aboard his Transtector and bursts through the cavern roof, attempting to escape into the sky. Battleship Maximus bars his way, but Weirdwolf's explosives suddenly detonate, crippling the ship and allowing Scorponok to escape, despite being clipped by a "Master Beam Attack" from the Headmasters. With these few extra moments bought, Scorponok puts the finishing touches to the Zarak Shield, which now stands poised to defeat the Master Sword...!

The [[Decepticon]]s have vanished after their previous defeat, and with a search turning up nothing, the Autobot [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] speculate that they may have left the planet. However, [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] and [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] are sure that they are still on [[Master (planet)|Master]], as it is the only planet that can provide them with the materials used in the construction of Battleship Maximus, that they might create a weapon of equal power. [[Pointblank]] compliments Highbrow's sharp mind... before trashing his combat ability.

Deep beneath the surface of planet Master, [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] is holed up in a massive cavern, where the Decepticons have assembled a large amount of machinery to process ore. By luck, after escaping underground at the end of the previous battle, they have discovered the minerals necessary to create the powerful alloy [[G-Metal]]. Even so, shields forged from his metal will still not be strong enough to stand up to the Master Sword, and Scorponok put into motion a plan to learn the secrets of the sword.

On Battleship Maximus, [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] is playing video games when [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] puts forth his latest idea—now that they are on planet Master, he will undergo the rigorous Headmaster training process, and become a Headmaster himself! Daniel is insulted when Wheelie points out that he'll always be better than him because he's a Transformer, and Daniel goes to bed in a huff. When Daniel rises early the next morning to do his chores, Wheelie is nowhere to be found, but Daniel is not concerned. In truth, Wheelie has simply decided to start his training with a run, but while out in the desert, the ground gives way beneath the young robot's feet...

A short time later, concern over Wheelie's absence is mounting aboard Battleship Maximus, with Daniel's indifference having vanished. As the Autobots meet to search for him, however, a transmission is received from [[Sixshot]], who reveals that he has captured Wheelie and will drop him in acid if Fortress does not provide all the data on the Master Sword within three hours. While Pointblank advocates rejecting the demand, writing Wheelie off as a necessary sacrifice of war, Fortress is undecided. Daniel attempts to rescue Wheelie on his own, and Chromedome agrees to help him; Highbrow finds them before they leave, but allows them to go, upgrading Daniel's video game gun into a genuine blaster just in case. They depart hidden aboard the [[Trainbot]]s, with Highbrow covering for them by saying that the Trainbots are just going on reconnaissance, just as Fortress announces that he will give in to the Decepticons' demands. Highbrow is then forced to admit that Chromedome and Daniel have gone to rescue Wheelie.

Chromedome and Daniel, meanwhile, have successfully evaded the [[Horrorcon|Horrorcons]] and entered Scorponok, where Daniel is able to use his small size to sneak under infra-red alarm beams and turn them off. Chromedome uses his telepathic powers to pick up Wheelie's brainwaves, and they discover the room in which he is being held—only Daniel can pass through the door's anti-Transformer sensor, and after deactivating it, he and Chromedome free Wheelie. Concurrently, Battleship Maximus sets down outside, and Fortress is about to hand a disk containing the Master Sword data over to Sixshot when Chromedome bursts out, revealing that Wheelie has been freed. With all bets off, the Headmasters and [[Targetmaster|Targetmasters]] of both sides emerge for a firefight, during which Scorponok orders his two newest warriors in battle—the [[Duocon]]s! In the midst of the confusion that these two fast-moving, rapid-firing warriors create, the disk is blasted from Fortress's hands, and is grabbed and passed like a football across the battlefield from faction to faction, until [[Battletrap]] finally seizes it, and the Decepticons pull out with the secrets of the Master Sword in their hands.

Aboard Battleship Maximus, Pointblank apologises for allowing the disk to fall into enemy hands. Meanwhile, Chromedome, Daniel and Wheelie are being reprimanded for leaving the ship without permission by being made to scrub it from stem to stern. Chromedome is particularly irate, running up and down the halls with a mop, but the other Headmasters placate him by praising him for saving Wheelie's life.

As the light from the [[plasma energy]] explosion dims, the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] recover the unconscious bodies of [[Pointblank]], [[Sureshot (G1)|Sureshot]] and [[Crosshairs (G1)|Crosshairs]] and pull them back into the damaged Battleship Maximus. There, they discover that three of the refugees from planet [[Master (planet)|Master]] have been fused to their arms by the plasma energy in a weaponized form, and they return to Earth to surgically remove them. Although they are physically separated, each pair remains linked, with Pointblank and co. now able to telepathically understand the Master language. [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] dubs them "Targetmasters", and then begins preparations to head for Master to stop the [[Decepticon]] attacks there. [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] petitions his father to be allowed to accompany the Autobots on their mission, and he is given permission.

Meanwhile, on Master, the [[Horrorcon|Horrorcons]], [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]], [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] and Decepticon [[Clone (subgroup)|Clones]] are attacking an installation, and coming under heavy return fire. At the same time, [[Sixshot]] informs [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] that Battleship Maximus will soon be on its way after undergoing repairs, but Scorponok is not concerned—[[Slugslinger (G1)|Slugslinger]], [[Triggerhappy]] and [[Misfire]] have also become Targetmasters!

In time, Battleship Maximus blasts off for Master, with Chromedome speculating on the reason for Scorponok's sudden shift of attention to the planet. Pointblank assures Daniel and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] that their battle-hardened strength and new Targetmaster partners will win the fight, and takes the time to throw another jab in the direction of the Headmasters, accusing them of short tempers and a lack of experience. The Headmasters brush off the insults and stalk away, but once alone, grumble about the Targetmasters' arrogance, prompting concern from Daniel and Wheelie about the bad atmosphere on the battleship.

Back on Master, the Decepticon Targetmasters enter the ongoing battle, shooting out the weapons holding the other Decepticon back and allowing the Decepticon Headmasters to attack directly. At that moment, Battleship Maximus appears and the Autobot Headmasters and Targetmasters leap into the fray, beating back the Decepticon Headmasters and Horrorcons. Scorponok escapses beneath the planet's surface, burrowing under the desert sand in scorpion mode, as the surviving Master warriors thank the Autobots for their aid. Chromedome spots a familiar face picking his way out of rubble—an old friend of his named [[Jack (Headmasters)|Jack]]—but when he attempts to speak to him, Jack walks on by, apparently not even recognising his old comrade, before collapsing due to his injuries.

A little later, as Jack recovers aboard Battleship Maximus, Chromedome enters, but Jack still seems not to recognise him. Daniel suggests that Chromedome transform to his small robot mode as that might be the reason, and Chromedome does so, but Jack just leaves the room, claiming he has work to do. Chromedome catches up to his friend, and they discuss their past—it soon become clear that Jack is still morose over having washed out of the rigorous Headmaster training program, but Chromedome claims that Jack's scientific mind makes him just as important, and that just because he's a Headmaster, he's no better than him. The friends embrace, but underground, Sixshot is already scheming to exploit their friendship for his own evil ends. Using his powers of disguise to pose as Chromedome, he approaches Jack and catches him off guard, knocking him out. Jack is brought back to Scorponok, where Sixshot tortures him—aware that Jack worked on the design of Battleship Maximus, he attempts to force the secrets of the [[Master Sword]] from him. However, it takes [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]]'s hypnotic powers to obtain any information, and even then, all Jack can tell them is that the Master Sword is made of a special metal, and that only Fortress knows what kind. Unable to learn anything more from him, Sixshot conceives a new plan—implanting a bomb inside Jack to blow up Battleship Maximus.

Discovering that Jack has been kidnapped, the Autobots deduce the reason for his capture, and realize that Scorponok has come to planet Master to find the metal that the Master Sword was made from. Just as they are about to head out to rescue him, however, the mesmerized Jack appears on the horizon, marching towards Battleship Maximus. [[Blaster (G1)|Twincast]] quickly scans him and detects the bomb. Chromedome tries to convince his friend to stop, but Pointblank is in favor of simply doing away with the threat, and links up with his Targetmaster partner to open fire on Jack. [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] attempts to stop him, but Pointblank calls it "the nature of war" and is about to fire when Chromedome steps up, preferring to commit the act himself. After a moment's hesitation, Chromedome leaps into his friend's path and shoots him through the chest; Jack collapses, and with his last words, apologizes to Chromedome, before the bomb detonates, leaving only a giant, smouldering crater. The Decepticons try to take advantage of the Autobots' shock, but in the battle that ensues, a vengeful Chromedome turns the tide by blasting Sixshot's arms clean off. The villains retreat, and Chromedome is all set to pursue them, but Pointblank holds him back. Chromedome burns with anger over having taken his own friend's life, but Pointblank tells him to save it for the next battle, and Chromedome admits that while he does not ''like'' Pointblank, he has come to respect his power. Pointblank is likewise impressed by Chromedome's determination, and the pair resolve to work together in the future.

Following [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s defeat at the hands of [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]], the Decepticons have abandoned Earth, leaving the Autobots to pick up the pieces and eradicate all memory of the villains' presence from the planet. The four [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] are charged with locating and disposing of the [[plasma energy]] explosives that Scorponok had planted in various locations around the Earth, while Fortress arranges to help restore areas still suffering from damage caused by the Decepticons. He appoints [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] as head of the project, at which point [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] says that he will call on some of his friends to aid in the effort as well, although [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] is not convinced he ''has'' any.

Meanwhile, [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] have discovered a collection of five linked explosives in the heart of a volcano, and are in the process of carefully removing them when a volcanic tremor activates the timer. To deal with the situation as quickly as possible, the pair [[Head Formation|Cross-Head On]] and manage to escape from the cave with the explosives as lava laps at their heels.

On Earth, Spike and [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] attend a conference at the [[United Nations]] in preparation for the clean-up operation. Daniel continues to poke fun at Wheelie due to the failure of his "friends" to appear—but just then, three Autobots—[[Pointblank]], [[Sureshot (G1)|Sureshot]] and [[Crosshairs (G1)|Crosshairs]]—swoop down out of the sky, land in front of the two youths and greet Wheelie. Daniel is genuinely impressed by these cool-looking warriors and compliments Wheelie on his friends, but Pointblank seems surprised to hear them referred to this way. Wheelie stutters and stumbles, but Pointblank cuts him off and asks to see Fortress; when Daniel moves off to lead the way for the new arrivals, Pointblank takes Wheelie aside and demands to know why Daniel thinks they are his friends. Wheelie apologizes—in fact, this trio are his superior officers!

Back at [[Autobot City]], Fortress attempts to figure out how to deal with the looming detonation of the bombs Chromedome and Hardhead discovered, but finds that there will be no time to defuse them. Just then, Wheelie and Daniel arrive with Pointblank, Sureshot and Crosshairs in tow. Famous amongst Autobots for their expertise in battles throughout the universe, Pointblank cautions Fortress that Earth will never truly be safe until the Decepticons are totally wiped out, but Fortress has more pressing concerns in the form of the impending explosion and invites the newly-arrived Autobots along as Battleship Maximus takes off.

Chromedome and Hardhead are still trying to escape the volcanic caverns, only to find themselves trapped by a rockslide. Battleship Maximus arrives in time to dig them out, and they bring the plasma bombs onboard, so that they may fly them out into space and allow them to harmlessly detonate in the void. While Spike is busy leading the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], [[Technobot (G1)|Technobots]] and [[Trainbot|Trainbots]] in destroying the Decepticons' abandoned Earth headquarters, Battleship Maximus races to get to a safe distance. Pointblank and co. offer to fly ahead with them, tossing out a veiled insult at the Headmasters in the process by making it clear they are stronger and faster, but Fortress refuses. Soon, they reach the safety zone, and are about to release the explosives into space, when suddenly, a small craft appears on their radar, broadcasting an SOS. The ship is a refugee craft from the Headmasters' adopted homewold of planet [[Master (planet)|Master]], carrying six escapees that are being pursued by [[Sixshot]] and a trio of Decepticons familiar to Pointblank and his team—[[Slugslinger (G1)|Slugslinger]], [[Misfire]] and [[Triggerhappy]]. While they engage them in battle, the refugee ship docks with Battleship Maximus, and [[Blaster (G1)|Twincast]] translates the escapees' words, revealing that the Decepticons have turned their attention to planet Master, returning there and attacking it. Eager to prove themselves the better of Pointblank's team, the Headmasters spring into action against Sixshot, but while they are dealing with him, the Master refugees try to do their part by bringing the explosives aboard their craft and flying them out into space. Slugslinger makes for their ship as it flies by overhead and Pointblank tackles him, but just then, the explosives go off, bathing Slugslinger, Pointblank and their teammates in a wave of plasma energy...

Following [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s demise, Scorponok once again seizes control of the Decepticon forces, and appoints himself the [[Emperor of Destruction|Emperor of Terror]]. Keeping [[Sixshot]] occupied by instructing him to continue the attack against Earth's [[Autobot|Autobots]], Scorponok and the Decepticon [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] resume their original plan for the destruction of Earth.

On [[Athenia]], the Autobots study the Decepticons' recent movements, noting that the northern hemisphere has seen a lot of activity of late. Chromedome prepares to head to Earth to help reinforce the defenses of that area when Spike announces that he will be going to the planet too, to attend [[Earth Summit|a summit]] concerning Earth's volcanoes. Specifically, the meeting is about drilling into Earth's mantle, but Spike's studies reveal an unexpected coincidence: All of Scorponok's movements have been centered on the [[Pacific Ring of Fire]], the largest concentration of volcanoes on Earth, which runs from Alaska to the South Pole. Back in [[Autobot City]], Spike explains that he thinks the Decepticons are targeting the spot where Earth's crust is weakest, but in the midst of his talk, [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] attacks. [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] holds him off, but Sixshot then arrives, and Chromedome, recalling the death of [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] at the ninja's hands, engages him in battle. Metroplex is distracted by this, and as Trypticon bears down on him, Spike steps out from his cover to shout a warning to the [[city-bot]], only to be struck by a stray laser blast. Metroplex repels the Decepticons, but Spike is critically wounded and transported by to Athenia for urgent medical attention.

Chromedome blames himself for allowing Spike to get injured, and although [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] is understanding, Wheelie is not so forgiving. Just then, Fortress enters to inform everyone on Spike's condition: A small piece of shrapnel has become embedded in one of his arteries and cannot be removed by surgery. His guilt mounting, Chromedome turns on Fortress, blaming Spike's injuries on his passive strategies. Once he's restrained and calmed down by his fellow Headmasters, the group then debate Scorponok's strategy, with [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] speculating that he is attempting to make the Earth combust into a new sun. At that point, a report is beamed in from [[Scattershot (G1)|Scattershot]] that the Decepticons are active on the [[Kamchatka Peninsula]], another portion of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Fortress forbids Chromedome from participating in the attack, and he remains on Athenia while the others head for Earth.

Spike and Daniel share a tearful moment in the medical bay, with Spike telling Daniel that regardless of what happens to him, he must remain strong. Thankfully, Fortress has the answer that will save Spike's life. Putting his Master-born psychic powers to work, he telekinetically purges the shrapnel from Spike's body. Unfortunately, this drains all of his energy, and with Scorponok on the way to Earth, he will be unable to transform into Fortress Maximus to combat him.

On Kamchatka, the Autobots are meeting heavy Decepticon resistance, and Scorponok appears in the sky over the peninsula, patiently awaiting the arrival of Fortress. Soon enough, he gets his wish, and he transforms into robot mode to throw around the energy-deprived Battleship Maximus. Stuck on Athenia and feeling useless, Chromedome realises the key to winning the day: discovering the secret of Scorponok's long-searched-for weakness! Daniel and Wheelie aid him in his work, focusing their studies on the connection between his head and body, per notes left by Highbrow. As the battle on Earth worsens, they at last discover the Decepticon leader's weak spot: the Decepticon insignia on his chest! Chromedome races to Earth, arriving just as things seem their bleakest, as Scorponok hurls Battleship Maximus into the molten heart of a volcano. What Scorponok has failed to account for, however, is Fortress's ability to absorb the volcano's magma energy, re-energising him and allowing him to transform into Fortress Maximus! Chromedome informs him of the weak spot, and Fortress Maximus stabs Scorponok through the chest with the [[Master Sword]], causing the Decepticon to topple into the volcano. In a spray of molten rock, the crippled Scorponok bursts free and flees into the sky.

As the dust clears, Wheelie and the other Headmasters reconcile with Chromedome.

Growing bolder and more determined following the death of [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]], [[Sixshot]] steps up the [[Decepticon]] attack on Earth, dispatching the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]], [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] and [[Horrorcon|Horrorcons]] to assault the Autobots on numerous fronts. Five installations are simultaneously attacked, and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] instructs [[Blaster (G1)|Twincast]] and [[Autobot Mini-Cassette|his cassettes]] to gather information that will allow them to pre-empt the next attack. Even [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]], still smarting over Ultra Magnus's demise, wants to participate in the upcoming counterattack, but as he argues with Fortress, reports start pouring in from Autobot bases that are under attack, and numerous Autobot teams race to respond to their distress calls. Metroplex acquiesces, with one provision—when the time comes, Sixshot will be his.

Meanwhile, on [[Chaar]], Galvatron, [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] watch footage of Sixshot's attack on Earth, with the two lieutenants quietly grumbling about how Sixshot is constantly showing them up. Elsewhere in the base, [[Punch (G1)|Counterpunch]] regards the colossal stockpile of [[Energon cube|energon cubes]] that the Decepticons have amassed, and then crosses paths with Galvatron, who explains that he is about to travel to Earth, in order to make history with his next move. Counterpunch, as Punch, heads for [[Autobot City]] to inform Fortress and the Headmasters of this, but they mistakenly believe that Galvatron plans to have Scorponok, who has been absent from their sights for some time, lead the attack against the planet. At the same time, Scorponok is discovered by Twincast and [[Steeljaw (G1)|Steeljaw]] in the ruins of an Autobot energy plant in Alaska, which he has demolished. The pair come under attack from a passing Sixshot, who blasts Twincast into a chasm while Steeljaw escapes to report back to Fortress.

On [[Athenia]], [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]], [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] and [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] watch footage of Decepticon attacks on Earth, with Spike growing more and more enraged at the villains' continuous destruction of Earth's natural environment. He is about to contact Fortress to find out why the Autobots have not done something about this, but [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] stops him, pointing out that they can fight each other at any time, but that victory can only be won by finding out what Galvatron's true plan is. That part of the equation is concurrently being taken care of by Punch in the Decepticons' Earth base, where, as Counterpunch, he resorts to the most basic of espionage techniques—listening in on a conversation between Sixshot and Galvatron through an air vent. Aware of Scorponok's movements on Earth, Sixshot believes that the Headmaster leader is attempting to blow up Earth as he did [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and [[Mars (planet)|Mars]] before it, in order to stop Galvatron's master plan. Galvatron finally reveals the true extent of his plan to Sixshot—he intends to fuse both himself and the Earth together, so that he may become a [[Unicron]]-like entity known as "[[Grand Galvatron]]". However, to accomplish this massive feat of engineering, he will require many powerful transformation components, particularly to safeguard the weakest spot on his body, his head. These parts, Galvatron explains, will be culled from the finest Decepticon warriors—with Sixshot being his number one choice for this "noble" sacrifice. Punch makes a beeline for Autobot City to report all he has learned, arriving just as Metroplex convinces Fortress to allow him to join in the attack on Scorponok in Alaska.

At the [[Autobot Alaska Science Base|Autobot Science Base]] in [[Alaska]], Scorponok and the Decepticon Headmasters are planting another in a series of planet-destroying explosives when Sixshot arrives. Scorponok expects a conflict, but Sixshot explains that they may now consider him an ally—he is not willing to allow Galvatron to willingly sacrifice him for spare parts. Galvatron himself arrives seconds later, as Sixshot and Scorponok pantomime a struggle to distract Galvatron as the Autobot arrive on the scene. As Metroplex and Sixshot engage in an aerial battle, and Scorponok attacks Battleship Maximus, the four Headmasters surround Galvatron for their final battle with the Decepticon leader. Their fight takes them out of the chasm to a nearby ice field, where Galvatron hurls the four young Transformers into the icy waters. He is about to deliver the killing stroke to Chromedome when Punch arrives to inform the Headmasters that Galvatron's weak spot is his head. The quartet enters [[Head Formation]], bombarding Galvatron with blasts of their combined energy, but the formation is broken when Galvatron shoots [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] out of the sky. He retaliates by knocking Galvatron into the ocean, and rejoins the Head Formation; the Headmasters then collapse several icebergs on top of Galvatron, before putting an end to the villain with a colossal explosion. Sixshot and Scorponok retreat, as the Autobots look out over the icy sea—the final resting place of the Emperor of Destruction.

Then it switches to a scene with Twincast, and when we return to the fight with Galvatron, they're completely in a polar region.
*So, Galvatron can survive being at ''ground zero'' of an explosion powerful enough to ''blow up an entire planet'', and yet he can't dig his way out from under a few tons of ice? That's really screwed up, man.

*Galvatron's master plan was first hinted at in "[[Fight to the Death on Planet Hive!!]]", and it was revealed that he planned to "incorporate the Earth into his system" in "[[Ultra Magnus Dies!!]]", but precisely what that entailed was not explained until this episode. The idea itself was a decent one (especially given Galvatron's desire to gain control of Unicron's power by subjugating him in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''), but the visual execution was absolutely, ridiculously hilarious.
*Scorponok's desire for power was pretty obvious almost from the moment he appeared in the series, but his current plan for the destruction of Earth was begun in the previous episode.

[[Weirdwolf]] reports their successful acquisition of the base to [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]].

Meanwhile, Battleship Maximus has returned to [[Athenia]], where they are still concerned over [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]'s ultimate plan for the energy the Decepticons have gathered from all the planets they attacked, and [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] continues his codebreaking to try and discover Scorponok's hidden weakness. At the same time, on [[Chaar]], Galvatron announces the plan in question—as Scorponok has already deduced, he plans to "incorporate the Earth into his system". With the specifics of this goal left unsaid, [[Sixshot]] privately cautions Galvatron to beware of Scorponok and his own ambitions. Galvatron is well aware of Scorponok's own desire for power, and Sixshot offers to limit any further impediment to Galvatron's goals by personally leading a massive attack on Earth's Autobot forces, in order to wipe them out.

Elsewhere, Scorponok contacts Weirdwolf on Earth, and announces that it is time that he and his Headmasters begin to work towards their own goals, surreptitiously working to steal energy from Autobot installations and forcing Galvatron into fighting the Autobots himself, all so that Scorponok may take leadership of the Decepticons once again.

Sixshot mobilises [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]], the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], the [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] and the [[Horrorcon|Horrorcons]] and initiates an all-out attack against the Autobots' energy facility in Miami (pausing for a comedic scuffle between the confused [[Doublecross]] and the Horrorcons, who each take on one of his heads). Word soon reaches [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] at [[Autobot City]], who, unwilling to burden [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] with any further problems, dispatches the [[Trainbot|Trainbots]] and [[Technobot (G1)|Technobots]] to deal with the threat.

Back on Athenia, [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] are helping Highbrow in his codebreaking, but have thus far met with failure—the two youths are particularly dismayed when Highbrow has them start the whole process over again from the top. Fortress charges [[Punch (G1)|Punch]] with informing him of Galvatron's movements, and confers with the other Autobots on the situation—even the hot-headed, over-eager [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] admits that he has bad feelings about the current situation, stunning everyone into horrified silence.

On Earth, the battle goes badly for the Autobots. On the outskirts of Autobot City, Ultra Magnus is confronted by Sixshot himself, who attacks the [[City Commander]] with his multiplication powers and multiple transformations. [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] attempts to intervene, but Trypticon intercepts him, at which point the Trainbots arrive, and convince Magnus that Fortress must be alerted. The news is quickly sent to Athenia, and Fortress and the Headmasters head for Earth aboard Battleship Maximus. Meanwhile, Ultra Magnus is in trouble—Sixshot has multiplied himself into six forms, each one adopting one of his alternate modes, to strike Magnus in painful succession. As the Horrorcons hold off Raiden, Sixshot makes his final deadly move, revealing his secret, ''seventh'' mode, combining all the strengths of his six modes in one—the Wingwolf! Simultaneously, Battleship Maximus and Scorponok arrive on Earth, but Galvatron's fears are realized, as Scorponok completely ignores the battle and telepathically contacts the Decepticon Headmasters to check up on their progress, while the Autobots arrive just as Magnus is caught in a hail of laser fire from Sixshot. When the fallen City Commander does not rise, the enraged Headmasters enter [[Head Formation]] and knock the ninja out of the sky. Fortress cradles Ultra Magnus's broken body, as, with his last words, Magnus wishes for the Autobots to defend the Earth, and dies. Swept up in righteous fury, the Headmasters pummel Sixshot, forcing the villain to retreat.

Ultra Magnus's body is loaded into a funeral bier, and Metroplex requests that, rather than be fired into space, Ultra Magnus's body be buried somewhere on the Earth that he loved so much. With the bier board Battleship Maximus, a burial spot is selected—a small cave on the coastline—and Magnus is submerged beneath the waves as the sun begins to set.

Somewhere in the depths of space, on a barren world known only as the "[[Pirate Planet]]," the Decepticon [[Clone (subgroup)|Clones]], [[Pounce]] and [[Wingspan]] touch down on the rocky surface. They are searching for the second half of a small, golden skull-shaped idol—an item that is in the possession of the Autobot Clones, [[Fastlane]] and [[Cloudraker (G1)|Cloudraker]], who are lying in ambush! The two sets of Clones engage in battle over the skull, and the Autobots take the upper hand until [[Sixshot]] appears and aids the Decepticon Clones in defeating their opponents. As the Autobots escape, [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] appears, demanding to know why the Decepticon Clones have not yet discovered the secret store of energy hidden on Pirate Planet. The skull, they explain, will reveal all, which is why they must obtain the second half from the Autobots.

Fastlane and Cloudraker contact Battleship Maximus, summoning the Autobots aboard to Pirate Planet. As they set forth, [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] wonders if everyone that lives on the planet is a pirate, but [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] sets him straight, explaining that it was used by [[Space Pirates|pirates]] in the past to store the energy and wealth they plundered from neighboring planets. While the Autobots reflect on Galvatron's mysterious plan for the energy the Decepticons have gathered and Highbrow's continued attempts to identify [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s weak spot, Battleship Maximus enters the "[[Space Graveyard]]", a mass of debris from wrecked spaceships. Highbrow and Daniel are particularly interested in [[Space Pirate Ship|a nearly-intact spacecraft]] that resembles an earthly pirate ship, and Highbrow notes that the skull of the ship's stern is emitting a strange signal.

Back on Pirate Planet, the Clones are again battling each other, this time with the [[Horrorcon|Horrorcons]] adding their firepower to the Decepticon side. A tackle from [[Apeface]] knocks the second half of the skull from the Autobots' grasp, and the Decepticons pull out, returning to Scorponok. There, Galvatron links the two skull-halves together, activating an electronic map that pinpoints the location of the "[[proton energy]]" stockpiled by the pirates.

Elsewhere, Battleship Maximus has landed, and the Autobot Clones report their sad situation to the crew. They recount their history with the Decepticon Clones—formerly friends before either group had sided with a faction, the two teams separated to travel through space to train and increase their skills. It was during this period that Fastlane and Cloudraker came upon the skull, and soon met up with the Wingspan and Pounce again, only to discover that their former friends had joined the Decepticons, and had half of the skull stolen from them. [[Blaster (G1)|Twincast]] reports in that the Decepticons have located the proton energy, and the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] head out to meet them in battle at an old ruined site in a desert. The skull is reclaimed and the Decepticons are quickly repelled, allowing Highbrow to study the skull and figure out what to do next—when the skull is placed in a another skull-shaped receptacle on the desert floor, a signal is transmitted that raises a giant pyramid from beneath the sand. A sneak attack from Galvatron fells Highbrow, and he is taken back to Battleship Maximus for medical attention. The door of the pyramid proves so tough, however, that Galvatron is forced to have Scorponok pound on it with his claws, to no avail.

Recuperating on Battleship Maximus, Highbrow realises that the signal emitted by the skull in the desert is the same as the one being emitted by the skull on the ship out in the space graveyard. He and Daniel board [[Shōki]] and [[Yukikaze (Headmasters)|Yukikaze]] and head for the graveyard, although their departure is observed by [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]], and he pursues them. While on the journey, Highbrow notices that Daniel has brought his video-game light gun with him, and switches its power cartridge while the boy is not looking. Subsequently, they arrive at the pirate ship, and Shōki and Yukikaze tear off the skull. Soundblaster then appears and holds the Autobots at gunpoint, demanding to know the connection. Highbrow whispers to Daniel to use his gun, explaining that he has swapped the cartridges to give the gun real power, but when Daniel hesitates, Soundblaster nicks Highbrow with a blast of his own, spurring Daniel on to open fire and send Soundblaster flying off through space.

Back down on Pirate Planet, Battleship Maximus joins the fight, and while everyone is occupied with the fighting, Highbrow connects the skull from the ship to a headless skeleton positioned by the pyramid door. The pyramid opens up and Highbrow and Daniel head inside; they are attacked by the Decepticon Clones, but the Autobot Clones come to their rescue and send them packing. Outside, Scorponok transforms to robot mode, and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] becomes Fortress Maximus; as the Headmasters distract Scorponok, Maximus delivers a slash to his chest with the [[Master Sword]], causing him to start bleeding energy badly and forcing the Decepticons to retreat.

As the Autobots gather themselves at the battle's end, Highbrow reveals that the pyramid contains no energy at all, showing the others a message carved in stone by the pirates. The message explains that the proton energy is unstable, and if it misused, it will bring only death to those who would manipulate it—a fate that has already befallen some poor, unknown souls in the past, which is what caused the once-green Pirate Planet to become the barren wasteland it is now. Twincast reports that the Decepticons are now on their way back to [[Chaar]]—the planet-plundering is done, and now it is time for the real war to begin!

The [[Autobot|Autobots]] aboard Battleship Maximus are still lagging behind in their pursuit of the Decepticons on their planet-hopping energy raids, and a restless [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] occupy their time by venturing out on the ship's hull to repair a fault in its alarm system. They find that they are unable to fix it themselves, but can't call on [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] for his usual technical help, since he is still busy trying to decode [[Tekna]]'s microfilm. An irritated Chromedome takes out his frustration by punching a pipe, but this jars loose a few components, which drift off into space.

Meanwhile, the Decepticons have landed on the harmonious planet of [[Paradise]], and have begun draining the world's abundant natural energy sources. The Autobots subsequently pinpoint their location, but with Battleship Maximus unable to proceed until Chromedome's repairs are done, [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] gives Highbrow a reprieve from his codebreaking and sends him on an advance scouting mission with [[Blaster (G1)|Twincast]] aboard the [[Trainbot|Trainbots]]. As they fly over the planet's jungles, they are approached by [[Papika]], a native girl riding a giant bird, who immediately assumes they are Decepticons. Highbrow convinces her that they are the Decepticons' enemies, and learns from her where the villains are currently based. Investigating solo while Twincast and his cassettes patrol and Papika returns to her village, Highbrow is caught in the hypnotic spell of [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]] and captured by the Decepticons.

Back at Papika's village, Battleship Maximus has touched down, and the Autobots have met the natives, led by Papika's father, [[Polonus]]. [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] quickly befriend Papika, who teaches them to fish with their bare hands and trumps Wheelie's power to transform with her ability to communicate with animals. Then, just as Twincast reports Highbrow's capture, [[Sixshot]] attacks the village, setting the surrounding jungle on fire. Battleship Maximus blocks the flames, safeguarding the natives, but is unable to move, leaving the three Headmasters to set out alone to try and rescue Highbrow.

Highbrow, meanwhile, has been bound in chains beneath a waterfall by the Decepticons, and a recording from [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] is delivered to the Headmasters en route by [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]], warning them to keep away. Being themselves, of course, the Headmasters plough on through anyway, and fortunately arrive just as Autobot reinforcements in the form of the [[Monsterbot|Monsterbots]], [[Technobot (G1)|Technobots]] and [[Trainbot|Trainbots]] show up. Even under cover of the ensuing battle, however, they are unable to break the chains that hold Highbrow, and the quartet use the [[Head Formation]] to boost their energy, giving Highbrow the strength to break his bonds. Flame blasts from the Monsterbots then ignite the Decepticons' [[energon cube]] stockpiles, and the defeated villains flee aboard [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]. The Autobots say their goodbyes, and head off in pursuit of their enemies once again.

As the [[Autobot]]s onboard Battleship Maximus continue in their pursuit of the Decepticons from planet to planet, [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]], [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] and [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] are afforded a brief moment of relaxation, which Daniel spends playing [[Video Challenger]], shooting holographic Decepticons with his [[Challenge Blaster]]. Wheelie is unimpressed with his marksmanship and plays William Tell with a ball, challenging Daniel to shoot it out of his hand—only to wind up getting shot in the arm.

On the bridge, the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]]s detect an SOS signal, which they trace to the planet [[Daros]]. Setting down in the planet's northern hemisphere, they trace the signal to a factory, where the Decepticon Headmasters are playing target practice with the human-like workers. As the villains kill the workers with a hail of laser fire, they justify their actions by pointing out that this is a penal colony, and the dead are convicted criminals. This, of course, does not wash with the Autobots, who attack the Decepticons, forcing them into a quick and painful retreat. Searching for their enemies, the Autobots come upon a group of three prisoners, who explain that a [[Beastformer]] named [[Tekna]] was responsible for sending the SOS.

The three prisoners are brought to Battleship Maximus to recuperate, and Daniel and Wheelie attempt to make friends with them. Unfortunately, the lead prisoner, [[Curl]], seizes the boy and holds a knife to his throat, demanding control of Battleship Maximus in exchange for Daniel's life. As [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] stalls for time, telling the prisoners that the Headmasters must return to the ship in order to pilot it, Daniel is able to wrestle free and use his video game gun to blind the prisoners, who are then hit with a paralysis ray by Fortress. Their advantage lost, the trio explain the reason for their actions—in the past, the wealth of the energy-rich southern hemisphere of Daros was shared amongst its inhabitants, until an elite group seized power and monopolized control of the planet's resources. The lead prisoner was in charge of a failed rebellion against this corrupt ruling class, and consigned to the prison camp. Now knowing the truth of the matter, Fortress offers the Autobots' aid.

Meanwhile, still out exploring, the Headmasters come upon a mass grave of dead prisoners. [[Punch (G1)|Punch]] arrive on the scene, and explains to the Headmasters that this massacre was ordered by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], to prevent the secret weakness of [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s [[Transtector]] being revealed. The being who knew this secret, Tekna, was one of the Beastformers who worked on the construction of the Transtector, but who managed to escape the killing and is currently hiding in the [[South-North Caves]]. While [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] and [[Brainstorm]] return to Battleship Maximus, [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] head into the caves to search for Tekna, who they soon locate. Tekna explains that Scorponok's Transtector has a secret weak spot hidden on it—but before he can tell the Autobots what it is, he is cut down from behind by a laser blast from [[Weirdwolf]]! As Chromedome holds off the Decepticon, Highbrow takes Tekna to Battleship Maximus for medical care.

Meanwhile, Battleship Maximus has set down in the southern hemisphere, where the ruling class and the Decepticons are enjoying a feast as energy from the planet's sub-aquatic oilfields is being loaded into Scorponok as part of the deal between the two groups. A battle between Hardhead and Brainstorm and [[Sixshot]] and the [[Horrorcon]]s erupts, while Chromedome and Highbrow soon returning from their mission to join in. The Headmasters suggest using the Master Shot attack, but Hardhead and Brainstorm find that the battle has depleted their energy, leaving them unable to transform. Leaping from their Transtectors, the four Headmasters initiate the "[[Head Formation]]", linking hands and pooling their internal energies, recharging Hardhead and Brainstorm and allowing all four to transform to robot form. Battleship Maximus disconnects its cannon, and the Headmasters take control of it, opening fire on the Decepticons. When the weapon is turned on Scorponok, he transforms to robot mode, and Fortress retaliates by transforming into Fortress Maximus. As the two titans battle, Galvatron orders Scorponok to retreat—although defeated in battle, the Decepticons still successfully escape will all the energy they have acquired from Daros.

Shortly, the Autobots confront the planet's rulers, who offer them energy in exchange for protecting them. Daniel speaks up for the group, who shouts the Autobots' refusal in the emperor's face so hard that he collapses back into a reflecting pool. It's soon made abundantly clear that Curl will be taking charge of the planet, and the Autobots depart, with more pressing matters still to be dealt with. As Chromedome tries to gently coax the information on Scorponok from the badly-injured Tekna, the Beastformer raises one hand, and then drops it, as he dies. Beneath the fur of his forearm, however, the Autobots discover a strip of microfilm, which Higbrow suspects contains the secret of Scorponok's weak spot. Tekna's body is given a space burial, and Highbrow sets to work attempting to decode the information.

After the successful completion of Scorponok's Transtector, [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] had Tekna imprisoned in an inhospitable penal colony on the planet [[Daros]], in order to prevent the knowledge the Beastformer had gained about the construction of the giant robot from falling into the wrong hands. Quite logically, this wasn't enough assurance for Scorponok, and when the Decepticons visited Daros during their interplanetary energy-gathering raids, he instructed [[Weirdwolf]], [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]] and [[Skullcruncher]] to find and kill Tekna as a more permanent solution to his problem.

The three Decepticon [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] attacked the penal colony, willfully slaughtering all the prisoners in their quest for Tekna, but the crafty Beastformer was able to avoid detection, and he sent out an SOS signal that was quickly picked up by the [[Autobot]]s, who were hot on the Decepticons' heels and headed for Daros anyway. Taking refuge in the [[South-North Caves]], Tekna was soon located by Autobot Headmasters [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Brainstorm]], and he was about to tell them of the critical weak spot on Scorponok's Transtector when he was suddenly shot from behind with a laser blast by Weirdwolf. Fatally wounded by the shot, Tekna was carried back to [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Battleship Maximus]] by Highbrow while Chromedome took on the Decepticons.

The Decepticons on [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] are on course for the [[Twin Star]] system, home of the diametrically-opposed planets Sperity and Toruin. Scorponok voices his opinion that time would be better spent contemplating Galvatron's "master plan", but Galvatron makes the point that they will require the vast energy of Sperity to complete it. Before long, Scorponok is in Sperity airspace and fending off attacks from the planet's defensive weaponry.

The Autobots on Battleship Maximus, meanwhile, are lagging behind their Decepticon quarry somewhat, and frayed tempers and the desire for a fight lead to an argument between [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] and the more relaxed [[Brainstorm]], who claims that the two hotheads never think with their heads or consider strategy in their fights. The fight is interrupted when the Twin Star system comes into view, and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] explains the nature of the Sperity and Toruin. Fortress instructs [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] to take [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]] and [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] to the barren Toruin to keep them out of harm's way, and Brainstorm decides to accompany them, which Chromedome immediately interprets as cowardice.

Down on the surface of Sperity, Scorponok lands, and the Decepticons pour out, beginning their search for energy. Before long, the Autobots arrive and a battle begins, which is observed by the Twin Star council, led by [[Dafuna]], convincing them to maintain an evacuation of the planet. The Headmasters take the opportunity to try out their new "Triple Jump" technique, powering up by exchanging heads, and then launching Chromedome, attached to Hardhead's [[transtector]], into the air to "Triple Master Kick" each of the Decepticon Headmasters.

Meanwhile, the [[Trainbot]]s deposit Brainstorm, Daniel, Wheelie and Arcee on Toruin, and after a brief search, they find a cave to take refuge in. By and by, however, a strange little animal comes crawling by the cave mouth, which, on closer examination, appears to be a toy robot. They follow it to a tall rock, where they discover a young native, [[Clang]], and follow him down into the depths of the cave. There, behind a secret door, they discover a hidden city, to which all of the Twin Star inhabitants and their energy supplies have secretly been moved, via a cable tunnel connecting the planets. They are captured by Twin Star security and brought before a [[Twin Star commander|commander]]. The Autobots win the commander's trust and Brainstorm goes to inform the other Autobots of the Twin Starians' deception.

As a result of this evacuation, Galvatron and the Decepticons have been unable to find any energy on Sperity, and Galvatron starts taking out his rage on Fortress when Brainstorm arrives with a message he has been given by Dafuna. After a further argument with his fellow Headmasters, Brainstorm gets them to repeatedly exchange heads with him, transplanting his own head from Transtector to Transtector so that he can reach the other side of the battlefield and deliver the message to Fortress. Now aware of the Twin Star government's plan for the planets, Fortress has the Autobots pull out as a siren sounds to signify the completion of the evacuation, at which point [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]] reports that he has discovered the energy at last—a puny stack of [[energon cube]]s that Galvatron kicks over in rage. Just then, the planet shudders as Toruin disconnects from the cable bridge and floats off into space. Unaware that the departing planet holds the energy he was seeking, infuriated that he has wasted so much time, and unwilling to be made a fool of any longer, Galvatron calls off the Decepticons and they leave.

On Toruin, the Autobots celebrate their victory, and Chromedome, Hardhead and Brainstorm make their peace before the team sets off in pursuit of the Decepticons once more.

==Synopsis==

In deep space, the [[Decepticon]]s aboard [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] set course for the planet [[Hive (planet)|Hive]], only to come across a ship full of the planet's inhabitants. The Hive inhabitants immediately recognize the Decepticon [[insignia]] on Scorponok's hull and turn to flee, broadcasting a warning to their planet before their ship is blown to pieces.

Some time later, the [[Autobot]]s aboard Battleship Maximus, in pursuit of the Decepticons, happen upon the ruins of the Hive spaceship, and [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] goes to investigate the remains. The sole survivor, [[Makku's father|an injured Hive soldier]], almost shoots Chromedome, until he identifies himself as an Autobot, and takes the soldier back to Maximus for medical attention. After telling them about Hive and the Decepticons' impending attack, he hands Chromedome a pendant, asking him to give it to his son [[Makku]], and dies.

On Hive, as the approach of Scorponok is detected, the planet's [[Queen Bee]] issues orders to enhance defences, but because not all of the ships that are currently off-planet are able to return in time, the access tunnels leading to the city within the planet cannot all be closed, allowing Galvatron, [[Sixshot]] and the [[Horrorcon]]s to invade. The city's children are evacuated to the queen's castle, but one young boy is unable to follow, and is caught on the battlefield.

Back out in space, the returning Hive ships cross paths with Battleship Maximus, and, mistakenly believing them to be Decepticons, they open fire. [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] is all in favor of returning the sentiment, but [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress]] refuses, and Chromedome, Hardhead and [[Brainstorm]] fly out into the path of the lasers, trying to make the Hive soldiers realise the truth. Even this meets with failure, however, and although Fortress is insistent on sticking to the plan, Chromedome refuses and heads down to Hive on his own. Exploring in vehicle mode, Chromedome encounters the stranded young boy, who he discovers is Makku. Informed of his father's death at the Decepticons' hands and given his pendant, Makku helps Chromedome gain audience with the Queen Bee to prove their good will.

Chromedome manages to convince the queen that he and the other Autobots are here to help, a revelation that is punctuated by the Decepticons' arrival at the doors of the castle, having decimated the planet's military forces. As Chromedome tussles with the Horrorcons, he is shot out of the sky by Galvatron and Sixshot, and lands in the energy moat surrounding the castle. Galvatron then summons Scorponok down to the planet to press the attack, as the Queen Bee contacts Battleship Maximus and calls upon the Autobots for help. In the midst of the ensuing battle, Chromedome is able to absorb enough energy from the moat to re-energize himself, and the four Headmasters use the "Master Shot" attack, opening fire on Scorponok and the Decepticons with Battleship Maximus's main cannon. To deliver the final blow, Fortress transforms into Fortress Maximus, slashing Scorponok across the chest with the [[Master Sword]] and forcing the villains to retreat.

*When Chromedome re-energizes himself from the energy moat, the narration points out that he does it with Makku's assistance, and the animation seems to indicate that Makku is holding something that helps the process along.
