She spent all her time within her father's laboratories, receiving her education from [[Tutor Bot|robots]]. Despite this, she doesn't seem like a shut-in. She's curious, excitable, adventurous, and knows that crying can sometimes get her what she wants. She's just never known what it's like to be around other kids. Fortunately, she has [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] and [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] to help with that, and she claims that 'Bee is the best friend she's ever had. In fact, she's become very possessive of all her robotic friends.

It was believed that Sari was a normal human, until it was revealed that she was made from a [[protoform]] and her father's DNA. Hence, the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]] viewed her with great regard, bestowing upon her a [[AllSpark Key|key]] with miraculous powers (though her guardian, the robotic dog [[Sparkplug (robot dog)|Sparkplug]], thought it was just another chew toy).

Since discovering her true origin, she has absorbed the power of her AllSpark-powered Key to gain incredible Cybertronian powers and abilities such as enhanced strength, speed, and the ability to create destructive spheres of pure white, glowing energy with her hands, as well as the power and ability to transform into an armored form with several technological weapons (most of which [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] was forced to seal away after she proved unable to control them). She also owns a scooter which can transform into a jet pack.

Sari's origins are shrouded in mystery. She came into existence when a [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertronian]] [[protoform]] appeared in Isaac Sumdac's laboratory. The baffled scientist reached out to touch the small, liquid metal creature, and received an electric shock that knocked him unconscious. When he awoke, the protoform had scanned his [[DNA]] and reconfigured into a techno-organic creature that appeared to be a human baby. Sumdac "adopted" the robot child and named it "Sari", and raised it as his own daughter over the next eight years. Understandably, Sumdac was reluctant to let Sari out into the world, and instead kept her mostly confined to [[Sumdac Tower]], educating her with [[Tutor Bot|robot tutors]] and creating robotic companions like her pet Sparkplug to keep her company. {{storylink|TransWarped}} Precisely ''how'' the protoform that became Sari appeared in Sumdac's lab is unknown; Sari herself seems to believe that she was one of the protoforms stolen from the [[Cyber-Ninja Corps]] by [[Lockdown (Animated)|Lockdown]] millions of years ago and stored aboard the ''[[Nemesis (Animated)|Nemesis]]'', but given that those protoforms were [[blank]]s, and that it was a different size and shape to all the other protoforms seen, this seems unlikely. {{storylink|Endgame, Part II}}

One day, when Sparkplug stole her security key card, Sari chased it outside and was confronted by the Autobots [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] and [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]], who hadn't quite yet fathomed what humans were, and spoke to her as if she were Sparkplug's pet. Naturally, she freaked out, but quickly befriended Bumblebee once he saved her from a giant bug that had grown from her father's nanite experiment gone awry. Stowing away on Bumblebee and coming aboard the [[Teletran-1|Autobots' ship]], she came across the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]], which infused part of its power into her security key, creating the [[AllSpark Key]]. This allowed her to heal [[Transformer]]s, such as the injured [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]], earning her brownie points with the 'Bots. She also managed to talk the police down from shooting the Autobots, saying they were friendly (except [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]], who was grumpy, but not evil). Sari later helped teach the Autobots about [[Earth]] and [[human]]s, explaining their method of reproduction to a ''very'' startled [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]].

During the unveiling of her father's new transit system, [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] arrived and attacked. Bumblebee took a shot meant for Sari, allowing Starscream to capture him, Professor Sumdac, the Mayor, and [[Captain Fanzone]]. Sari came up with the idea to distract Starscream while she and Prowl rescued the others (even faking some tears to make it happen). The Key later saved Optimus Prime's life when she used it, in concert with the AllSpark itself, to revive his [[Spark]]. {{storylink|Transform and Roll Out}}

Sari would go on to be Bumblebee's usual partner in crime, encouraging him to engage in such questionable activities as high-profile wrestling matches {{storylink|Total Meltdown}} and installing rocket boosters to make him go faster. {{storylink|Nanosec (episode)|Nanosec}} Sari likely hangs out with Bumblebee because she knows she can scare the holy be[[Primus]] out of him. {{storylink|Along Came a Spider}}

On Sari's eighth birthday, the only other kids who turned up were the children of her dad's employees. None of them really wanted to be there and soon focused their attention on the Autobots. Sari was left alone and shunned along with Bulkhead, both morose that the kids didn't like them. Her father's present, a music robot called [[Soundwave (Animated)|Soundwave]], cheered her up, and she soon began neglecting her friendship with Bulkhead in favour of her new toy. Repeated uses of the Key turned Soundwave into a malevolent, sentient being who tried to enslave Humanity, and she learnt she'd been wrong to ignore her friend. {{storylink|Sound and Fury}}

When the [[Decepticon]]s [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] and [[Lugnut (Animated)|Lugnut]] arrived on Earth, they manhandled the Autobots. Although they survived, it made apparent the fact that more would come looking for the AllSpark, so the Autobots decided to repair their ship and leave Earth. Sari's reaction to this was displeasure (in the form of a high pitch shout of NO!). However, they needed the Key to assist Ratchet in repairing the ship. Sari was unwilling to help them leave, and neither was she pleased to work with a grouch like Ratchet (who was not that keen on working with a [[Protoform]]), but they managed to get her to the ship. While alone with the AllSpark, Sari decided to try and sabotage the ship, thereby keeping the Autobots on Earth (and dooming her species to enslavement and/or extinction) but the Key repaired the damage. After that, the AllSpark showed her an image of [[Megatron (Animated)|a giant Transformer]]. In her panic, Sari opened the air lock, nearly drowning, but Ratchet saved her. Ratchet then explained that they were leaving because they couldn't risk anything happening to Earth or her. Swayed by his compassion, Sari used the Key to reactivate the Autobot ship's decommissioned weapons, reducing Blitzwing and Lugnut to pieces. {{storylink|Lost and Found (episode)|Lost and Found}}

Eventually, [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] decided that the Key was no longer safe in Sari's hands, and he ordered Ratchet to take it from her. Distraught, Sari ran off crying, only to be captured later by [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]], who was looking for the Key herself. While Sari was actually misleading Blackarachnia in circles around the frozen [[Lake Erie]], she was grabbed by Ratchet as he brought the Autobots' ship out of the lake. She was ticked that Ratchet had lost the Key and that her dad had helped rebuild [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]], but the blame game ceased after the ship crashed on [[Dinobot Island (Animated)|Dinobot Island]]. Prime told the Sumdacs to stay with the ship while they went to fight off Megatron. Fearing that they might die, Isaac Sumdac said that there was something that he needed to tell Sari, but she was more interested in finding something else the AllSpark could charge. The AllSpark refused to respond, other than cryptically displaying an image of a DNA strand. Suddenly, Megatron and Prime burst through the hull of the ship, and during their fight, the Key once again fell into her hands. Sari tossed it to Optimus Prime, who used the Key to partially destroy the AllSpark and disperse its energy. Acknowledging that he had been wrong in taking from her, Optimus Prime gave the Key back to Sari, saying that it was the strongest most powerful Cybertronian artifact in existence, it was too important to be left in the hands of an Autobot.

Unfortunately, all was not well, for Sari could not find her dad... as he was now a prisoner of Megatron. {{storylink|Megatron Rising - Part 2}}

After her father's disappearance, Sari took over running [[Sumdac Systems]]. Board chairman [[Porter C. Powell]] opposed her, saying that she was too young and wasting company resources searching for her father. When the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]] arrived, Sari was cut off from the Autobots and her only source of emotional support. She soon needed them, as police drones coming out of a Sumdac assembly line began to malfunction, and Powell was unwilling to do anything about it. Sneaking aboard the [[Steelhaven (Animated)|Elite Guard flagship]], Sari put the fear of god into [[Jazz (Animated)|Jazz]] before Bulkhead explained that Sari was okay (and Bumblebee explained that [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]] was a jerk). With Optimus, Prowl, and Jazz's help, Sari managed to get into the plant's assembly line and shut down the systems. When she returned home, she found that she had been locked out of her office, as Powell was now CEO and Chairman of Sumdac Systems. Insisting that it was still her company, Sari was shocked when Powell revealed that she had no birth certificate, no adoption papers, and no social security number. Powell's smug revelation made Sari realize that not only was there no proof that she was Sumdac's daughter, there was no legal proof she even existed. {{storylink|The Elite Guard}}

After that, Powell kicked Sari out of Sumdac Tower, took Tutor Bot and Sparkplug, and gave her room to [[Headmaster (Animated)|Henry Masterson]] as an office. With nowhere else to go, she went to Autobot headquarters. Bumblebee and Bulkhead tried their best to cheer her up, employing such methods as loud music, inedible food, and unedifying teaching lesson. All they did was make things worse. Eventually, Prowl put the two bots in their place and told them to ''listen'' to her. Sari opened up about all her frustrations, such as her missing father, being kicked out of her home, her fear of Powell ruining her father's company, and the fact that there was no record of her existence. Bumblebee promised that they were there for her, no matter what, and Sari finally started to feel a little better. {{storylink|The Return of the Headmaster}}

And then [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]] decided that the Autobots couldn't be there for her, as the Decepticons had begun attacking the fringes of Autobot space, so Prime's crew were needed elsewhere. The Autobots decided that Captain Fanzone was the best human with whom to leave her. (Granted, their list of known humans was rather short and included [[Meltdown (Animated)|Prometheus Black]] and [[Nanosec]].) Before anything close to adoption could occur, they managed to convince Magnus that there were Decepticons on Earth (mostly because Starscream fell out of the sky and landed about ten feet in front of them), allowing them to stay on planet. {{storylink|Mission Accomplished}}

Sari amused herself after settling in with the Autobots by hooking up illegal satellite TV, which she used to watch pay-per-view races. (The races were also illegal, as the Autobots found out from Fanzone.) When Bumblebee wanted to join the races to compete against a mysterious blue car, Sari came along with him. Sari discovered that man in charge of the races, [[Master Disaster]], had a remote control containing an AllSpark fragment, which he used to control the blue car. Blitzwing showed up to take the fragment, so and Bumblebee had to run for their lives. Eventually, she used the remote to get rid of Blitzwing, allowing the Autobots to get the AllSpark fragment. After that, Bumblebee severed her satellite connection, saying that he had to set a better example for her. Sari advised him not to try too hard, or she wouldn't recognize him. {{storylink|Velocity}}

Sari was awakened from her night's rest by the loud cavorting of the [[Constructicon (Animated)|"Constructobots"]]. A game of flattened-oil-barrel frisbee severed her trademark pigtails, which left her none too pleased. {{storylink|Rise of the Constructicons}} Subsequently she proved that she was still more mature than Bumblebee in a number of ways, warning him off of taking on villains solo just to prove a point. Sadly he wouldn't realize this until the Decepticon behind the villains' success, [[Swindle (Animated)|Swindle]] was revealed. By then it was too late, and she had to team up with those same villains to take his immobilized chassis to Sumdac Tower. Alarmed that the receptionist robot was now declaring it to be Powell Tower, she utilized the Key to rectify that little situation before heading off and successfully disabling Swindle's technology jamming device. {{storylink|SUV: Society of Ultimate Villainy}}

A while after, Prowl and Sari were honing their agility using the factory's old assembly line. Sari claimed she could complete the exercise at full speed, like Prowl, but it was set to a quarter-speed, which proved to be too much for her at that and got a massive whack upside the head for her pains. After the Autobots discovered the return of the [[Constructicon (Animated)|Constructicons]], Sari was left at the base at the command of Optimus, who told reminded her that they had almost decapitated her [[Rise of the Constructicons|the last time they met]]. Also, he doubted she would be able to take on a pair of two-story robots. At first Sari sulked at her situation, before realizing that she was completely alone in the base and did what any eight-year-old kid would do in an abandoned factory: raid the vending machines, use cranes as miniature G-force slings and try to take on Prowl's obstacle course at full speed (which went as well as last time).

While listening to her music, Sari failed to notice the alarms going off, which heralded the invasion of the Constructicons who were looking for [[Oil|a drink]]. After the two louts accidentally crushed her cell phone and left her with the option of sneaking to the communications room to call the Autobots for help, Sari decided—after a council of war with her teddy bear—to take on the two bots using her trusty hockey stick (which shatters soon after she strikes them with it). She escaped and made it to the communication room, contacting Bumblebee who told her to hide and wait until they finish fighting off the recently appeared [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]], who was also looking for the Constructicons. Sari concluded that it would be too long and set up a trap for the two invaders, using three barrels of oil to trip them up and the plant's assembly line to knock them around for a while, forcing [[Mixmaster (Animated)|Mixmaster]] and [[Scrapper (Animated)|Scrapper]] to flee. The Autobots returned to find the place in ruins, but Sari showed them that she was all right. Optimus both apologized for his previous comments and lauded her for her bravery, and all was well for Sari—if she could just explain away the mountain of candy wrappers Optimus discovered.... {{storylink|Sari, No One's Home}}

Sari later posed for a Picasso-style picture done by Bulkhead. The results were...interesting, to say the least. After criticism by the Autobots, a depressed Bulkhead walked out, and Sari and Bumblebee went to cheer him up. During a walk in the park, Megatron attacked them, carrying an imprisoned Isaac Sumdac with him, and Sari realized that Megatron had kidnapped him all those months ago. (Apparently, that hadn't occurred to anyone else.) While she looked on helplessly, Megatron managed to kidnap Bulkhead. When she returned to the plant, she heard the Autobot [[Blurr (Animated)|Blurr]] reveal that Professor Sumdac was helping the Decepticons build a [[space bridge]] to conquer Cybertron. Sari refused to believe that her father was willingly helping the Decepticons and got a promise out of Optimus Prime to bring him home alive. Heading to Dinobot Island, Ratchet and Sari worked to bring the Autobots' ship back online. Ratchet realized that they would need riskier repairs to bring achieve their goal. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part I}}

As Ratchet worked, he explained that the ship was an Autobot who had sacrificed his spark two million years ago. Sari was doubtful that it would come back online... until it spoke to her. She proceeded to use the Key on several of the ship's systems, under Ratchet's direction, until it was able to take off. Taking it to the mine where the Decepticons were based, Sari managed to give the ship enough power to transform into its robot mode, [[Omega Supreme (Animated)|Omega Supreme]]. The massive Autobot turned the tide of the battle, but sacrificed himself to save the others from being sucked into the space bridge. The Autobots managed to escape, with both Sari and Isaac in tow, and Isaac revealed that he had been forced to work with the Decepticons. Overjoyed that her father was safe and still a good guy, Sari dubbed Isaac Sumdac the most honest and trust-worthy guy that anyone could hope to find. It was at that point that everyone assembled noticed that the skin on Sari's elbow had torn away, revealing robotic circuitry underneath. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part II}}

Although Sari was at first scared by this strange discovery, her fear quickly gave way to anger at her father for having kept the secret that she was a robot from her for years. As they returned to Detroit, Sumdac explained how he had found Sari in his lab years before, but the girl remained incredulous, and things only got worse when the pair confronted Porter C. Powell and Henry Masterson back in Sumdac Tower. When the two men refused to vacate the building, Sari's strained patience snapped, and her hands suddenly transformed into energy projectors, which created a shock wave that knocked the pair of do-badders into the elevator. Struggling to comprehend her true nature, Sari went with the Autobots to their headquarters, unable even to be in the same building as the man she could no longer even think of as her father. Optimus Prime did his best to patch up the damaged family relationship by tricking Sari into meeting with Sumdac at [[Burger Bot]], but it wasn't until Masterson returned with his Headmaster unit attached to Starscream's body that the bonds between father and daughter were repaired, as Sari and Sumdac defended each other from the villain.

Sari quickly began to get a handle on her new Cybertronian powers and abilities, learning to channel and project beach ball-sized spheres of pure white, lightning-like energy from her hands, but the Autobots still refused to allow her to accompany them into battle against a rock-like alien creature that had just [[transwarp]]ed into the middle of Detroit. Seeking a means to strengthen and increase her powers and abilities, Sari turned her Key upon herself and underwent a surprising metamorphosis: Her body was "aged" so that she now appeared to be a teenager, and she sprouted powerful battle armor equipped with jet-skates, arm-blades and an energy sledge-hammer.

Although Sari's new powers and abilities amazed the Autobots when she made short work of the rock-alien, things soon started to go wrong, as the Key's energy began overloading Sari's circuitry, causing her to run out of control. Unable to control her own body and causing objects around her to explode with her merest touch, Sari nearly killed Bumblebee by stabbing him with one of her blades before the Autobots were able to remove the key from her system. Even with the Key extracted, Sari's energies were still running wild, and she was in danger of exploding and destroying the entire city before Ratchet knocked her out with his EMP generator. Once they returned to the Autobot base, he bypassed the circuitry responsible for her overload.

As Sari convalesced, her father at her side, Megatron returned to Earth in control of Omega Supreme. Optimus Prime was forced to contemplate undoing the repairs done to Sari and using her to stop the rampaging superweapon as a last-ditch desperation play. When Starscream took control of Omega away from Megatron and locked down all the entrance hatches to prevent the Autobots from infiltrating the robot (again), he came to the point of ordering Ratchet to do so. Fortunately for Sari's (and Detroit's) continued existence, Ratchet refused, and the Autobots ultimately transwarped the threat off Earth. Soon after, Sari awoke and apologized to her friends for her foolishness, while her father apologized to her for holding back the truth for so long. {{storylink|TransWarped}}

After convalescing, she was next seen on [[Christmas]] Eve, making some [[oilnog]] for the Autobots and warning them to stay off Santa's naughty list. When they went to bed early, thanks to a [[Sound Wave]] toy spiking the 'nog, she called them a bunch of party-poopers, but wished them a Merry Christmas and went home.

The next morning, she wasn't happy to receive another Sound Wave toy from her father, given [[Sound and Fury|what had happened with the last one]], and was further disappointed when she was given a motor scooter rather than a car... until she found out that it transformed into a jet pack. Overjoyed, she transformed to her robot mode and flew off to show Bumblebee. When she arrived at the Autobots' base, she found it apparently deserted, and was further puzzled when the base's scanners showed their energy signatures in the factory itself. The appearance of a [[Laserbeak (Animated)|creepy robot bird]], leading a number of Sound Wave toys from an elevator in the floor (which she'd not known about before), didn't help matters, so she used her palm blasters on them and took the lift down.

In the basement, she found the Autobots wired into a VR machine by a fully rebuilt Soundwave. With most of her weaponry offline, she was no match for him and his instruments when she tried to stop him. She was forced to retreat, promising to come back for her friends.... {{storylink|Human Error, Part I}}

While she was flying back to Sumdac Tower, Soundwave decided to take over the whole city of Detroit, using the small Sound Waves to carry his hypnotic tunes, since reprogramming the Autobots was taking too long. As such, she arrived back to find a Sound Wave toy blaring hypnotic music at her... and kicked it out of the way. Soundwave deduced that her techno-organic nature made her immune to the music, and he shifted focus to trying to force everyone ''else'' to kill her, starting with her father!

After reluctantly dropping a shelving unit on her dad to make her escape, she flew to Dinobot Island for help. Her initial foray met with little success, since [[Grimlock (Animated)|Grimlock]] and [[Swoop (Animated)|his pteranadon comrade]] refused to help, tried to kill her, then left her alone when she blasted at them. Grimlock's mention that the third member of his group had been kicked out for becoming someone's "pet" raised her curiosity, though, and she soon found Scrapper, separated from the other two Constructicons by [[Three's a Crowd|a big explosion]], on the island's shore playing with "[[Snarl (Animated)|Snarl]]", and she managed to conscript the two into rescuing the other Autobots.

On their way back to the mainland on a makeshift raft, [[Wreck-Gar (Animated)|Wreck-Gar]] abruptly popped up from the lake's bottom and immediately became the fourth member of the troupe of [[Substitute Autobot|Substitute Autobots]]. Once they were ashore, Sari's chaotic attempt to get them to transform and roll out nearly had them leave her behind, but it became moot before too long when Soundwave flew out of the ground, followed by the brainwashed Autobots. Initial attempts by her group at fighting them went badly, as the Substitute Autobots proved incapable of working at a team, while the zombie-Autobots acted as a single, elegant machine under Soundwave, and Soundwave could even control her own jet pack. Sari then changed tack, abandoning efforts to co-ordinate her group and ordering them to attack as individuals. Soundwave's single, elegant machine had trouble multitasking, apparently leading to Prowl saving Sari from death at Bumblebee's stingers in an attempt to deliver his own blow.

This lasted until, with four Autobots down, only Optimus Prime remained... whereupon Soundwave could concentrate on controlling just one Autobot properly. As a result, Sari was almost killed by the enslaved Optimus—but was saved again by Prowl, who openly revealed that he'd broken Soundwave's control in knocking Ratbat away from him. Shortly after, Soundwave was again shattered into many pieces, and Sari could once again concentrate on celebrating Christmas with her adopted family and her father. {{storylink|Human Error, Part II}}

When Bulkhead and her father belatedly completed the space bridge they'd been working on (after the purpose they'd been making it for had been accomplished), Sari objected that they would have gotten it working sooner if they'd let her help. They scoffed and went back to bickering about the final tweaks... so Sari took it upon herself to head over to the console, where her eyes glowed white, her hands separated into wires, and she finished the setup in seconds. When Optimus asked just ''how'' she'd managed that, she replied that she didn't know how, she just... had. Further, when Sentinel Prime sent an encoded message to Optimus that things had gone horribly wrong on the Elite Guard's ship, Sari managed to lock onto the transwarp signature of Swindle's personal storage dimension to get Optimus aboard, after Bulkhead wasn't sure it was even possible.

Later, after Swindle had departed the ship and Bulkhead wasn't sure he could retrieve Optimus, she claimed she could fix it and that she'd figured out why, guessing she must have upgraded her "processor... or brain or whatever" as part of her wider upgrade. However, putting it to the test wasn't necessary, as the ship dropped off Optimus at Sumdac Tower, safe and sound. {{storylink|Decepticon Air}}

When Optimus Prime abruptly decided he needed a jetpack of his own, Sari, along with Ratchet and her dad, was called into service to make it happen, which included Sari diagnosing a problem just by touching it. {{storylink|Endgame, Part I}} The flight pack soon got its baptism of fire when Megatron unleashed a trio of [[Lugnut Supreme]]s on Detroit. Initially, Sari wanted to confront the giant Decepticons with Optimus and Prowl, but Optimus told her no. As she began to throw a hissy-fit about being kept back for her own safety again, he cut her off and told her he wanted her to help protect her "fellow organics" with the other Autobots. Embarrassed, she backed down.

Later, when Ratchet, Bumblebee and Bulkhead were about to depart for the Moon in an attempt to take back the original Omega Supreme, she insisted on transwarping there with them. Her worried father attempted to forbid her, but she told him that she knew there was something there she needed to do, and flew into the space bridge. Once there, Sari could hardly believe she was really on the Moon, but her amazement was soon tabled when Ratchet spotted Arcee, leading to the quartet being ambushed by [[Shockwave (Animated)|Shockwave]]. While Bumblebee and Bulkhead held the shape-shifting Decepticon off, Sari and Ratchet headed into Omega Supreme's inactive body with the damaged fembot and found the lab Shockwave had been using. Although slightly freaked out by the female robot's mindless repetition of lessons for young Cybertronian 'bots, Sari was able to use her technopathy to tell Ratchet how to restore her mind. Shortly after Arcee came fully back online, Bumblebee and Bulkhead came in with news for Sari. They took her down into the hold of the [[Nemesis (Animated)|Decepticons' ship]], where several blank protoforms lay. Believing that this was where she had come from, Sari reached out to touch one of the protoforms, confirming for herself that there really had been a reason for her to be there.

Meanwhile, Ratchet and Arcee had broken Lugnut's hold over Omega Supreme and reactivated the giant Autobot, and Sari joined the others in flying back to Earth aboard the ship. As he fought with his purple duplicates, those inside were shaken about. After a particularly hard hit from the last clone standing, which forced Omega to transform to ship mode and crash-land, he checked that those inside were all right, whereupon Sari noted that "all Autobots, half-bots and almost-bots" were present and accounted for. Shortly afterward, Prowl gave his spark to shield the city from the last Omega-clone's detonation, and Megatron was defeated and arrested. Teamed up with [[You|another kid]], she was almost caught, but the Autobots rescued them at the last moment. The pair then entered HomeTech's laboratory to look for the security tape on which Prime's image had been captured, and they found a vital clue which led them to HomeTech's main warehouse. There Sari was interested in the [[Pixie-6]] robots HomeTech was due to release, but was menaced by Blitzwing, the real perpetrator of the break-in. Distraught after the Autobots went missing without telling her, Sari visited their base on the urging of another kid she'd just met. After being attacked by a rogue cleaning 'bot, she found Bumblebee, who revealed that Megatron had taken control of Detroit's fleet of robot workers and the Autobots had come up with a plan to keep the AllSpark safe, but the rest of the Autobots hadn't reported back. Sari was testing one of her father's inventions, the [[Sumdac Aquaskimmer Mk 1]], on Lake Erie with a young friend when they were attacked by a [[Sparkseeker]] torpedo. Ratchet's scans revealed the involvement of Lockdown, and Sari and her friend accompanied Bumblebee, Prowl and Bulkhead in an attempt to rescue their leader. After tangling with Lockdown, the two humans caught up with Blackarachnia, who'd hired the bounty hunter in order to get her revenge on Optimus. When Starscream and [[Starscream clone (Animated)|his clones]] seized the Autobot base, Sari immediately fled to Dinobot Island to get help. She found out the Dinobots were being made grouchy by the constant rain, so she promised they could stay in the Autobot base until it stopped if they drove out the Decepticons. Being present for [[Quake-Maker|Quake-Maker's]] first attack on Detroit, she got to see the arrival of shiny new hero [[Afterburn]]. Later, while watching a basketball game, Sari had to help stop an attack on the city by the villainous [[Crossroads]]. While roaming aimlessly around the middle of the street, Sari was nearly run over by a fleet of vehicles. To her astonishment, they transformed into robots. Terrified, she asked who they were, and [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] introduced them as the heroic [[Autobot]]s. Suddenly, [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]], [[Lockdown (Animated)|Lockdown]] and [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] attacked, attempting to steal the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]]. Prime scooped Sari up, protecting her from a violent explosion as the Autobots and the [[Decepticon]]s clashed. {{storylink|The Cool issue 1|The Cool #1}}

Starscream eventually succeeded in stealing the AllSpark from [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] and nearly made off with it. Prime, however, stopped him by releasing all the energy within it. Prime plummeted to the ground and died, but was instantly revived by Sari's [[AllSpark Key|key]]. Sari and Prime then properly introduced themselves as Sari wept and gave Prime a big, snuggly hug. They arrived just in time and transformed the ''Orion'' into [[Omega Supreme (Animated)|Omega Supreme]]. They trounced the competition and won the day. After being reunited with her father, Sari suggested they all go home. However, her joy was short-lived, as Bumblebee pointed out to her that she had some robotics sticking out through her flesh. After a full body-scan at Autobot HQ, and a heart-to-heart with her dad, Sari learned that she was originally a Transformer [[protoform]] that had scanned DNA from Professor Sumdac, resulting in an entirely new lifeform. Sumdac begged for her forgiveness and Sari was quick to give him a big hug, assuring him that no matter what, he'll always be her dad. Then, suddenly, [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] attacked in Omega Supreme's body! Sari decided that now was the time to join the fray with her friends and, using her key, upgraded herself into a teenager! Firing an energy-ball from her hands at the Decepticon, she then proceeded to use her newfound powers to flee in mortal terror as Starscream fired missiles at her, completely unaffected by her attack. {{storylink|The Cool issue 9|The Cool #9}}

Shortly before the outbreak of the Autobot-Decepticon war nine million years ago, Starscream was not a warrior, but rather a scientist. He and his colleague and friend [[Jetfire (G1)|Skyfire]] were exploring an unnamed planet—the ancient [[Earth]]—when severe atmospheric conditions separated the two friends. Starscream circled the globe looking for Skyfire, but never found him. Upon his return to Cybertron, Starscream mostly abandoned his scientific pursuits, deciding that a career as a warrior would be much more exciting, {{storylink|Fire in the Sky}} and instead enrolled in the [[Cybertron War Academy]], of which he would later profess to be the pride. {{storylink|A Prime Problem}}

Starscream rose through the ranks of [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron]]'s Decepticons until he reached the position of second in command, but even this was not enough: Starscream saw Megatron as old and soft, and after five million years of war drained Cybertron of all its energy, Starscream came to believe that the Decepticons would have won the conflict eons beforehand if he had been in charge. Starscream was never afraid to let Megatron know this, but Megatron was always ready with a disparaging comeback, and the constant belief that while Starscream had the ambition, he did not have the ability to lead.

Starscream was among Megatron's forces aboard the [[Nemesis (G1)|space cruiser]] that pursued the Autobots' [[Ark (G1)|ship]] when it departed Cybertron to search for new energy sources on other planets. The Decepticons boarded the Autobot craft, and it subsequently crashed on Earth, entombing its occupants in stasis for four million years. When a volcanic eruption reawakened the ship's computer, [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]], in 1984, it indiscriminately brought the Decepticons back online, rebuilding their bodies to transform into contemporary Earth machines. Now outfitted with an F-15 [[alternate mode]], Starscream's first act on Earth was one of spitefulness, as he delivered a parting laser blast to the buried Autobot ship. The blast caused a tremor that inadvertently knocked [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] into the path of Teletraan I's restoration beam, and before long, all the Autobots were operational once more and ready to continue the war on Earth. Four million years of sleep hadn't improved Starscream's disposition any, as his thoughts immediately turned to leadership once more, and he discussed them with [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] when he and [[Soundwave (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Soundwave]] accompanied him on a mission to find materials to construct a temporary base. {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 1}}

The Decepticons quickly began gathering energy to build and fuel a [[Victory (G1)|new space cruiser]] that could return them to Cybertron. The work proceeded apace with the Autobots unable to do much to stop the villains, but Starscream wound up costing them time when he decided to test a clutch of [[Energon cube|energon cubes]] by powering a laser turret with them, thereby using them up and necessitating another energy raid. {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 2}} A little later, when Megatron subjected Starscream to another bout of berating, the [[Air Commander]] decided he had had enough, and tried to shoot Megatron in the back. At Soundwave's warning, Megatron blocked the beam and returned fire with his [[fusion cannon]], bringing Starscream to his knees, quite literally begging for mercy. Luckily for him, he got it, but he didn't learn his lesson, since the first thing he did once the space cruiser was completed and airborne was to try for another coup. As it turned out, he only wound up distracting all the other Decepticons, allowing Autobot stowaway [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] to cripple the cruiser and send it crashing back to Earth. {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye, Part 3}}

Now stranded on Earth and using the crashed hulk of their spaceship as [[Decepticon Headquarters (G1 Earth)|headquarters]], the Decepticons created a [[space bridge]] to transport energy back to Cybertron. When Megatron was apparently lost in an early test of the device, {{storylink|Transport to Oblivion}} Starscream leapt at the chance to take leadership, and led [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] and Soundwave in an attack on a munitions plant. Unfortunately for Starscream, it soon transpired that Megatron had survived the space bridge journey, when he contacted Starscream from Cybertron and re-established his leadership. {{storylink|Roll for It}} Starscream was demoted to grunt work for his next mission, shipping energon cubes over the space bridge, but his merciless selection of a hapless warrior to pilot the craft on the dangerous journey proved to be a good one. {{storylink|Divide and Conquer}}

When the Decepticons began drilling in the North Pole in order to tap the energy of the Earth's core, the excavation wound up unearthing the frozen body of Starscream's old friend, Skyfire. Starscream talked his friend into joining the Decepticons, but Skyfire could not put aside his peaceful scientific ways aside like Starscream had, and their friendship ended when he defected to the Autobots. {{storylink|Fire in the Sky}} After a battle with the Autobots' newest warriors, the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], including yet another failed attempt and taking leadership when Megatron fell (fell ''down'', that is). {{storylink|S.O.S. Dinobots}}

Starscream met up with Skyfire again when the Autobot returned to stop a Decepticon plot in Peru. In the process, Starscream found himself on the other side of treachery, when he overheard Thundercracker contemplating letting Skyfire destroy the Decepticons' new weapon, in the hope that Megatron would blame Starscream himself. Starscream tried to shoot Thundercracker but missed and took out Skyfire, then blackmailed Thundercracker into obeying his every command with the threat of revealing his treachery to Megatron. Unsurprisingly, the whole scheme didn't really work. {{storylink|Fire on the Mountain}}

Not long after that Starscream proved he ''did'' still have some scientific leanings, as he was the only Decepticon who urged caution when Megatron pillaged energy from an unstable meteor. Starscream was ultimately correct about the volatile nature of the energy, and the resulting explosion nearly killed a number of Transformers, including Optimus Prime and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]. {{storylink|War of the Dinobots}}

After the Decepticons used a colossal space bridge to pull Cybertron into Earth's orbit in order to generate vast amounts of energy, {{storylink|The Ultimate Doom, Part 1}} Starscream took every opportunity he could to try and make it seem like the plan wasn't working. {{storylink|The Ultimate Doom, Part 2}} When the Decepticons' human ally [[Doctor Arkeville]] was abandoned by Megatron, Starscream abducted the scientist and made the rather outlandish attempt to create energon cubes by drawing on his mental energy. When Megatron caught him in the act, Starscream fled with Arkeville {{storylink|The Ultimate Doom, Part 3}} back to the human's secret laboratory. There, Starscream discovered an [[Exponential Generator]] and destabilized it with the intent of creating an explosion powerful enough to destroy the Earth. Starscream withdrew to Cybertron to watch the cosmic fireworks, but unbeknownst to him, Megatron and Optimus Prime had joined forces to launch the exponential generator into space. When the Earth failed to explode on schedule, Starscream headed back to the planet to investigate, but was knocked out of the sky by the passage of the exponential generator and crashed, right at the feet of a vengeful Megatron. Autobot Jazz wagered the Autobots had seen the last of Starscream for a while, {{storylink|Countdown to Extinction (episode)|Countdown to Extinction}} and he was right: Starscream was indeed nowhere to be seen during the Decepticons' next villainous escapade. {{storylink|A Plague of Insecticons}}

Whatever revenge Megatron may have reaped on Starscream, the Air Commander survived the experience, and was seen again when he and the other Decepticons bestowed their [[power chip rectifier]]s upon Megatron. This process gave Megatron access to all the Decepticons' special powers, including Starscream's null rays and cluster bombs, so he could easily defeat Optimus Prime in a one-on-one battle. Starscream pointed out the sheer illegality of this scheme, but Megatron was above caring. As it turned out, Starscream was right again: although Megatron defeated Prime, when the Autobots discovered his breach of the rules, their revenge was swift. {{storylink|Heavy Metal War}}

Starscream eagerly took to action in the Decepticons' next battle, {{storylink|Autobot Spike}} but was somewhat more reserved in regards to Megatron' new [[Solar Needle]] weapon, fearing that it would destabilize the Earth. Told by Megatron not to concern himself with matters he did not understand, he instead passed the time threatening and bossing around the captive [[Gears (G1)|Gears]]. {{storylink|Changing Gears}} Later, when Megatron had the Decepticons transform New York into a new Cybertron, Starscream had to admit that he was impressed by the scheme despite himself. {{storylink|City of Steel}}

Starscream helped Megatron implant a [[personality destabilizer]] in the Autobots' [[Recharging chamber|recharging chambers]] by using [[invisibility spray]], {{storylink|Attack of the Autobots}} and then joined in the theft of [[Electro-cell|electro-cells]] from a human laboratory, only to wind up embarrassing himself by rushing to use them to create energon cubes, which exploded due to the cells' instability. {{storylink|Traitor}} Starscream was later part of the Decepticon team that stole the Autobots' [[Wheeljack Instant Immobilizer|Immobilizer]] weapon, and briefly tried to seize leadership when Megatron was felled by Optimus Prime during the Autobots' attempt to reclaim the device. {{storylink|The Immobilizer}}

After serving as Megatron's unwilling guinea pig in the first test of the transformation-freezing [[Transfixatron]], {{storylink|The Autobot Run}} Starscream's cautious side came to the fore again when the Decepticons allied themselves with the fish-people of [[Sub-Atlantica]]. Starscream did not trust the sub-aquatic kingdom's boastful leader [[Nergill]], and his suspicions were proven correct when Nergill shot him with an [[Magnetic dysfunction ray|anti-Transformer disruptor ray]]. Starscream recovered in time to save Megatron from a blast of the ray, but Megatron did not believe Starscream's accusation of treachery until the fish-king went off the deep end and tried to destroy the Transformers, Sub-Atlantica and himself by detonating the city's energy stockpile. {{storylink|Atlantis, Arise!}}

Starscream was less than impressed with Megatron's decision to steal the Earth-made robot ninja [[Nightbird (G1)|Nightbird]], but when Megatron threatened to replace the Air Commander with the femme-bot, Starscream helped the Autobots take her down with a blast of his null ray. {{storylink|Enter the Nightbird}} Soon after, when Megatron sought to dupe the Autobots with a clone of Optimus Prime, his plan necessitated the creation of a Starscream clone, so that the Prime copy could convince the Autobots that it was the genuine article by destroying it. {{storylink|A Prime Problem}}

The scientist in Starscream saw danger in Megatron's plan to drill to the Earth's core, but Megatron placated him by revealing an emergency space bridge that could whisk them off to Cybertron if things went wrong. They never got the chance, though, as the Autobots destroyed the bridge, forcing the Decepticons to work with them to halt the drill and save the planet. {{storylink|The Core}}

Following a brief stint as a mind-controlled minion of [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]], {{storylink|The Insecticon Syndrome}} Starscream accompanied the Decepticons to the mysterious [[Dinobot Island (G1)|Dinobot Island]], where the strange waves of chronal energy surrounding the prehistoric paradise gave him cause for concern. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 1}} Starscream theorized that draining the delicate energies of the island could disrupt the fabric of time, and he was right: time warps began appearing all across the world, and the Autobots sprang into action to stop the Decepticons' scheme. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 2}}

After shooting down [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]] and accusing the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] of treachery, {{storylink|The Master Builders}} Starscream proved just how much of a case of the pot calling the kettle black that was when he tricked the mentally-addled Autobot [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] into giving him access to the Autobots' new [[Negavator]] tank. Starscream planned to use the weapon to take control of the Decepticons, but when Megatron rumbled his scheme, he claimed that he had only been stealing the weapon for his leader. Realizing that Starscream meant to take the Negavator from him, Red Alert turned on him, and Starscream shot him with his null rays, which wound up stabilizing his logic circuits. {{storylink|Auto Berserk}}

Starscream had a nasty encounter with a snake in the jungles of South America when the Decepticons were searching for their lost original space cruiser and its power core, the [[Heart of Cybertron]], but his spirits were put right by a good bout of over-energizing with the other Decepticons that evening. {{storylink|Microbots}}

Starscream, Megatron and Soundwave then attempted to steal the plans for the Ultra Plane, but Starscream and Soundwave were tricked into retreating when [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] projected a hologram of Megatron fleeing. Soon after, [[cybertonium]] degradation began to impair the Decepticons' functionality, and before he succumbed to it, Starscream took another grab for leadership when Megatron's vocal circuits were scrambled by the condition. {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1}} After the Decepticons recovered, Starscream helped steal the [[Voltronic Galaxer]]. {{storylink|Blaster Blues}}

While on a mission in [[United Kingdom|Great Britain]], Starscream found himself low on energy and with Autobots on all sides. Retreating into a cave with Rumble, Ravage and [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]] at his side, Starscream discovered that the cave was, in fact, a mystical time travel device, which thrust them back through the ages to 543 AD, with Autobots [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] and [[Warpath (G1)|Warpath]] hot on their heels. Seeing a primitive world that he could easily conquer laid out before him, Starscream allied himself with local ne'er-do-well [[Sir Wigend du Blackthorne]], but soon double-crossed him and took control of his castle and army. Starscream dismissed the chivalry of the age and abducted [[Nimue]], daughter of neighboring ruler [[Sir Aetheling the Red]], demanding that he surrender his kingdom in return for his progeny's safety. All the Transformers were low on energy, so Starscream put his scientific skills to use creating gunpowder and primitive electric dynamo, giving the Decepticons the ability to fight back against the Autobots and Sir Aetheling's armies when they marshalled against him. With aid from the wizard [[Beorht]], Hoist and Warpath overpowered Starscream and hauled him back to the present, where Starscream gleefully greeted Megatron by pouncing on top of him, ruining the shot he had lined up. {{storylink|A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court}}

Starscream was the first Decepticon to test out a mysterious golden lagoon of [[electrum]] discovered on Earth, and was made invulnerable by the powerful alloy. The Decepticons were easily able to defeat the Autobots in battle thanks to their new invincible coating, but Megatron was not impressed when Starscream had captives [[Seaspray (G1)|Seaspray]] and [[Beachcomber (G1)|Beachcomber]] fight gladiator-style. As punishment, he had Starscream lead an attack on the giant Autobot Omega Supreme—a task Starscream was terrified at the prospect of, even with his newfound invulnerability. The attack succeeded, but when Starscream was left in charge of the prisoners, they escaped, and in the battle that resulted, the electrum effect wore off the Decepticons, and they were defeated. {{storylink|The Golden Lagoon}}

When Starscream, [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] pursued [[Cosmos (G1)|Cosmos]] to [[Saturn]]'s moon of [[Titan (moon)|Titan]], Starscream was less than impressed when [[Titan (species)|the natives]] began worshipping Astrotrain as their supreme god. {{storylink|The God Gambit}} Starscream later encountered Cosmos again, along with Powerglide, in New York, inadvertently revealing the location of the Decepticons' new base in the New Jersey Pine Barrens to the Autobots. {{storylink|Make Tracks}}

Starscream was among a small group of Autobots and Decepticons who were transported to an alien world of giants by a malfunctioning space bridge. Starscream was nearly dissected for study by the authorities of this planet, and when Autobot scientist [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] cobbled together a makeshift space bridge to send them home, he and the Decepticons were only too happy to make the trip back to Earth. {{storylink|Child's Play (episode)|Child's Play}} After returning, Starscream was caught up in the menace of the [[Morphobot|morphobots]], {{storylink|Quest for Survival}} then helped operate the Decepticons' new "[[energy magnet]]". {{storylink|Kremzeek!}}

Conspiring with Astrotrain and Blitzwing to overthrow Megatron by freezing him in a subterranean chamber full of absolute zero degree molecules, Starscream found himself betrayed by the two [[Triple Changer]]s and frozen in the chamber along with Megatron. Blitzwing and Astrotrain's subsequent rampage caused a tidal wave (among many other things) that freed the two frozen Decepticons, and Starscream pleaded ignorance of the betrayal. {{storylink|Triple Takeover}} Later, when eccentric big game hunter [[Lord Chumley]] began targeting the Autobots, Starscream smirkingly pointed out that he had achieved more in two days than Megatron had in two years. {{storylink|Prime Target (episode)|Prime Target}}

Using the [[Dancitron]] dance club, Starscream and Soundwave used hypnotic music signals to brainwash human beings into helping them build a new Decepticon headquarters in the heart of New York, but they were stopped by [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]], [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] and the [[Bop Crew]]. {{storylink|Auto-Bop}} Later, he returned to Cybertron to aid Shockwave in the capture of Autobot resistance leader [[Elita One]], holding her to ransom to lure Optimus Prime into Decepticon clutches. The plan succeeded, but when Starscream attempted to melt Optimus Prime down, Elita used her time-freezing powers to save the Autobot leader. When time unfroze, Starscream believed that Prime had been destroyed, so when the Autobot leader return to aid his troops in battle, Starscream was badly thrown and called retreat right away. {{storylink|The Search for Alpha Trion}}

When Dirge crashed in a movie studio back lot while returning to the Decepticon base with a secret cargo, Starscream was charged with recovering footage of the secret cargo that the filmmakers on-site had captured. Unfortunately for Starscream, Megatron was not in a forgiving mood that day, so when he neglected to steal the negatives as well, the Decepticon leader seized him, held him above his head, slammed him off a wall and tore a handful of wires out of his chest, knocking Starscream offline. {{storylink|Hoist Goes Hollywood}}

When Starscream, [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] and Thundercracker's aerial skills wowed the impressionable new Autobots, the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], Starscream used their naivete to lure them into a trap set by Megatron that temporarily sent them nine million years back in time. {{storylink|War Dawn}} Later, Starscream accompanied Megatron, Astrotrain and Rumble on a mission to the planet [[Antilla]], during which Megatron was struck by a small asteroid that lodged itself in his armor. Starscream's next attempt at a coup was the last straw for Megatron. After Starscream attempted to shoot him in the back yet again, Megatron downed the Air Commander with a blast of his fusion cannon and banished him from the Decepticons, instructing [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] to drop him on the island of [[Guadalcanal]]. Discovering the ruined hulks of several [[World War II]] vehicles on the island, Starscream was struck with the idea to create troops for himself. Overpowering Thundercracker and Skywarp, he hijacked the space bridge and liberated the [[Personality component|personality components]] of a group of dissident "[[Renegade Decepticon]]s" from the [[Decepticon Detention Center|detention center]] on Cybertron, which he placed into the war vehicles, creating the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]]. Starscream ensured the loyalty of the Combaticons by neglecting to install [[energy absorber]]s in their new bodies, meaning that they had to help him capture several Transformers so they could take theirs for their own. In a showdown with the Decepticon forces, Starscream's Combaticons combined into [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] to overpower [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], and the giant robot then seized Megatron, as Starscream forced him to hand leadership over to him. Suddenly, Bruticus was ambushed by [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] and defeated, leaving Starscream without troops and at Megatron's mercy. Megatron had Astrotrain dump Starscream and the Combaticons on an asteroid, declaring them exiled from Earth forever. {{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}}

Unable to stand his imprisonment, Starscream eventually transformed to jet mode and flew off into space, despite not having enough power to make it back to Earth. The Combaticons, meanwhile, towed the asteroid to Cybertron, where they promptly overthrew Shockwave and took control of the planet. Shockwave was sent tumbling off into space and collided with Starscream, tipping the Seeker off to the fact that he was close to Cybertron. The pair returned to Cybertron, where they attempted to fool the Combaticons with holograms, but were ultimately captured and imprisoned. It took the team-up of Megatron and Optimus Prime's forces to save them and stop Bruticus. Starscream used the hologram projector to deceive the Autobots into thinking that Megatron had destroyed Bruticus, but in reality, the combiner survived and was reprogrammed by Megatron to serve him. For supplying him with this mighty new soldier, Megatron welcomed Starscream back into the Decepticon ranks. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

In his last recorded adventures in the 1980s, Starscream was his old snarky self, pouring doubt and scorn on Megatron's plans to have the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]] steal the components to create a powerful laser weapon, {{storylink|Masquerade}} and to use a gravity-alerting device to blast the moon out of orbit. {{storylink|B.O.T. Over the next twenty years, the Decepticons focused their efforts on conquering Cybertron entirely, driving the Autobots off the planet. In 2005, learning that the Autobots were readying for a major strike to take back the planet, Starscream accompanied Megatron and the Decepticons on a raid on [[Autobot City]] on Earth (although Starscream himself advocated hitting the Autobots' bases on Cybertron's moons first). During the [[Battle of Autobot City|battle]], Starscream narrowly avoided being crushed by the transforming city, and was the one to call retreat when Optimus Prime grievously wounded Megatron in a one-on-one duel. On the return flight to Cybertron, the Decepticons found it necessary to reduce their mass so that Astrotrain could successfully make it back to the planet, and they chose to jettison the damaged passengers. Starscream, of course, wasted no time in setting Megatron adrift, grinning victoriously as his former leader screamed his name as he was swept off on the solar winds.

Fighting immediately broke out amongst the Decepticons over who would become leader now, but Starscream eventually won out. Upon reaching Cybertron, he quickly arranged for a prodigious coronation ceremony complete with [[Constructicon (G1)|trumpeters]] and a [[Transformer clothing|crown]]. Starscream could not have known, of course, that Megatron would be found and reshaped by the godlike planet Transformer [[Unicron]], who recreated him as [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]]. The reborn Megatron arrived on Cybertron in the midst of Starscream's coronation, declaring the whole affair "bad comedy". Starscream had barely a moment to realize that the being in front of him was Megatron before Galvatron transformed to cannon mode and killed him with a single, terrible blast. Frozen for a moment as his body crackled, blackened and fractured, Starscream crumbled to ash, and was seemingly no more. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

In truth, however, this was not the end for Starscream. When the turncoat Decepticon [[Octane]] was pursued by the revenge-seeking [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]], [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] and the [[Sweep]]s, he took refuge in the [[Decepticon Crypt]] in the lower levels of Cybertron, where Starscream was apparently honored by [[:Image:StarscreamCryptMarker1.jpg|a statue that was only a set of legs]]. In the Crypt, Octane was confronted by the spectral form of Starscream, who had transcended death as a shimmering, ethereal "ghost". Starscream's ghost possessed Cyclonus, and he and Octane conspired to hand Galvatron over to Autobot leader [[Rodimus Prime (G1)|Rodimus Prime]]. Galvatron was able to escape the trap, and returned to the Decepticon base on [[Chaar]] in a state of unadulterated fury. He shot his second-in-command, not realizing Cyclonus had not been himself, but Starscream silently leapt into the body of a nearby Sweep, and began planning for the future. {{storylink|Starscream's Ghost}}

Seeking to reactivate Unicron in the hope that the omnipotent being could restore his body, Starscream possessed Scourge and had him open fire on Galvatron, so that he would be branded a traitor and would have no option but to help him. Scourge was successfully able to bring Unicron's disembodied head back online, and the chaos-bringer gave Starscream three tasks he would have to complete in order to obtain his desire. Starscream stole the eyes of [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]] and the [[transformation cog]] of [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]], and was then directed to connect Unicron's head to Cybertron itself so the planet could become his new body. Left without any hosts to possess, Starscream demanded that Unicron give him back his body so that he could complete the necessary connections... but as soon as the dark god complied, Starscream double-crossed him and tossed the cables to the ground, telling Unicron to do it himself! Just then, a payload of explosives planted by the Autobots went off, hurling both Starscream and Unicron's head off into space. Starscream was last seen soaring off through the cosmic void, out of control, as Galvatron fired upon him, and Cyclonus wondered how a ghost could tumble through space like that. {{storylink|Ghost in the Machine}}

With the aid of a local boy named [[Kenji]], the Autobots were able to use a broken freeway ramp to launch themselves into the air and take the Decepticon down. They found it, but were immediately captured by Starscream. Trapped within an energy cage, they were forced to watch as Megatron prepared to send his Decepticons out to plunder Earth's energy... some more.

Jenny hatched a clever plan and disassembled her communicator. This caught Starscream's attention and he plucked her out of the cage, violently threatening her. Turning on her feminine charms, Jenny begged for Starscream's mercy, giving him a big snuggly hug. As Starscream gleefully buried his face in her bosom, Jenny slyly slapped a device she had fashioned from her communicator onto Starscream's back. Content with a good hug, Starscream returned Jenny to her cage.

Jenny immediately activated the device, an override machine which she used to control Starscream's motor functions. Unloading Starscream's chest missiles, Jenny destroyed the Omega Whip and most of the Decepticon base. Starscream quickly recovered, unaware of what he'd just done, and was yelled at by Megatron. In the late 1990s, Starscream was among the Decepticons who attacked the human-built interstellar teleport system known as "[[Warp Gate|The Trigger]]". The sole survivor of their attack on the space station, [[Makoto (Stargate Battles)|Makoto]], was able to activate the teleport system and send the Decepticons hurtling towards the portal, but Megatron blasted the portal and knocked it offline just as Starscream was about to fly through it. The Autobots soon arrived to stop the Decepticons, {{storylink|First Contact}} but Megatron still had his sights set on the Trigger, and was content to wait until it was repaired so that he could make another play for it. Starscream advocated destroying the Trigger completely to stop the Autobots from using it, but Megatron dismissed the idea, mockingly suggesting that Starscream's passage through the Trigger had devolved him to its primitive level. Starscream stalked away, infuriated, and stared angrily at his own reflection… but while Megatron's assessment may not have been accurate, something clearly ''had'' happened, since Starscream's reflection was ''talking'' to him... {{storylink|Divided Views}}

Soon after, Starscream concocted a plan of his own to gather more energy, establishing a protection-racket style scam with the [[Prime Minister of Japan]], promising no attacks against his country in return for free reign to gather energy. Of course, Starscream had a double-cross in play, as [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] were secretly creating earthquakes in Japan that the Decepticon could tap for energy, while the Japanese government was left to believe they were simply natural disasters. The Autobots soon got wise to the villain's schemes and headed for Japan to stop the Decepticons, but when a team of flying Autobots pursued the fleeing Starscream out over the ocean, none of them could have suspected that the Trigger's warp gate would suddenly burst out of the sea below them, accompanied by a mysterious ''second'' Starscream! {{storylink|Activation}}

This second Starscream spirited the original, along with the energy he had gathered from Japan, back to the Trigger out in space, where the original Starscream demanded to know the identity of the strange, phantasmal doppelganger. The second Starscream revealed that he was, in fact, the ghost of Starscream's own future self, who had inadvertently been transported back in time by the Trigger after he was destroyed in the future. Both the Decepticons and Autobots soon tracked down the Starscreams to the Trigger, but before they could act, Starscream's ghost, determined to alter history and ensure his own survival, used the purloined energy to fuse both present and future Starscreams together with the Trigger. The space station transformed into a monstrous, misshapen robot of mammoth proportions, which tore through the Autobot and Decepticon ranks, until the Trigger's human staff—including Makoto—activated a system purge, disconnecting most of the armored hull from Starscream's new Trigger-body. Megatron exploited this vulnerability to cripple Starscream with a point-blank cannon blast, but Starscream had one last trick up his sleeve, twisting the remains of his body into a giant warp gate and threatening to suck all the Transformers into a [[black hole]] in the depths of space. It took the combination of Optimus Prime and Megatron's power to finally destroy Starscream. In 2004, while the majority of the Decepticon forces under Megatron's command were focusing their attention on finally taking over all of Cybertron, Starscream was appointed leader of the small remaining Decepticon force operating within Earth's solar system. Exploiting the Autobots' lowered guard, the Decepticons struck with a plague of Cosmic Rust, disabling many of their foes and leaving Earth open to attack. However, with the aid of the [[Earth Defense Command]] and many of Earth's automotive companies, the Autobots were saved and rebuilt with powerful new "[[Binaltech]]" bodies. {{storylink|Story of Binaltech, Chapter 1}} With the strength of these new forms, the Autobots forced Starscream's Decepticons off Earth, {{storylink|Binaltech Is...}} but Starscream did not take the defeat lying down, and got back in touch with his old ally, Doctor Arkeville. Bribing Arkeville with the offer of access to [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]]'s mind-controlling [[cerebro-shell]] technology, Starscream had the doctor combine his old [[hypno-chip]] designs with the shells, which were then used to take control of several of the [[Binaltech Project]]'s human workers. With these humans under their sway, Starscream and Arkeville began co-opting Binaltech technology to rebuild the Decepticons into Binaltech forms. {{storylink|Arise! Evil Binaltechs}}

Now fighting the Autobots on more even footing, the Decepticons were nonetheless thrown into disarray when the time-tossed Decepticon [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] used the [[Kronosphere]] time machine to alter the flow of history by teleporting Megatron and most of the Decepticons outside of time. {{storylink|Changing Lanes}} It is unclear if Starscream was among these Decepticons; Ravage specifically had Shockwave to be reborn in a Binaltech body to take up leadership of the remaining Decepticons, and Starscream was not heard from again until Megatron's forces returned some time later. {{storylink|Binal Time}}

When Starscream dared to challenge Beast Megatron's leadership, he was promptly blasted through a wall for his disobedience. {{storylink|Robot Masters (online comic)|Robot Masters online comic #2}} Seeking a means to dethrone this new leader, Starscream turned his attention to manipulating solitarium, and forged four weapons from the new mineral, which could be combined to create the "[[Arsenal Force]]" super-weapon. Starscream combined the weapons and unleashed the power of the Arsenal Force on Megatron... which, despite some impressive pyrotechnics, completely failed to injure him. During a later battle, when [[Victory Leo]] was attempting to go to the aid of [[Star Saber (Victory)|Star Saber]], Starscream appeared with [[Air Hunter]] and [[Wingstun]] to block his way. Fortunately, [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Bound Rogue]] leapt into the fray to keep the Decepticons busy while Leo carried on with his mission. {{storylink|Robot Masters (online comic)|Robot Masters online comic #6}} Starscream, Wingstun and new recruit [[X-Gunner]] later approached Optimus Primal, [[R-Blade]] and [[Delta Seeker]] while they were on patrol, and challenged them to a test of air-speed. Even when Star Saber summoned Victory Leo and the pair combined into Victory Saber, Starscream reigned supreme in the fight, until Optimus Prime arrived and blasted him out of the sky. As Starscream plummeted towards the ground, he was snatched out of the air by Megatron, who arrived riding atop [[Gigant Bomb]]. Later, Beast Megatron discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]] and ordered the Decepticons to tear the city apart. Starscream was then shot out of the sky by another time-displaced Autobot, Reverse Convoy. Immediately after being killed by Galvatron at his own coronation in 2005, Starscream's spark found its way to the twilight realm of [[Limbo]], somewhere on the edge of life and death. He soon discovered that he was not alone: the sparks of many deceased Starscreams from all across the multiverse were also there. Sharing the stories of their deaths with one another, they formulated a plan to restore themselves to life, each one all the while secretly willing to sacrifice the others if it would benefit him. The scientific skills of several of the Starscreams were used to create a kind of crystal they termed a "[[flip-soul]]" that would enable their spirits to retake physical form in the real world—but predictably enough, all the Starscreams then began fighting for possession of the crystal. The primary Starscream was able to triumph over the others and took off with the crystal in hand, but was then seized about the legs by the other Starscream before he could get away. The victorious Starscream ingested the crystal, and in a flash, all the Starscreams disappeared from limbo, and reappeared in the material realm, several decades after the primary Starscream's death, floating in space near Earth. But where there had once been many Starscreams, now there was only one, giant Starscream, a fusion of all the different versions of the duplicitous Air Commander from throughout time and space. The fusion was not a complete one, however; each Starscream had left small fragments of themselves in Limbo, resulting in a giant Starscream who was not quite "complete", but more of a towering transparent "ghost". As Starscream ruminated on this, he spotted a team of Autobot warriors cruising the ocean waves nearby, and promptly launched an attack. {{storylink|MP-3G Destron Air Commander / Starscream Ghost Ver.}}

Dispatched on a mission through time and space to discover the identity of a mysterious saboteur who damaged [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]], the humanoid robot [[Teletraan 15]] was possessed by Starscream's ghost when the spectral Decepticon invaded her [[Transwarp cruiser]] in 2006. Starscream crashed the cruiser into the artificial satellite [[Nana]], where 15's superiors [[Teletraan 10]] and [[Ravage (G1)|Black Panther Man]] were stationed, and emerged from the wreckage to seize 10 around the throat. He introduced himself as the Decepticon Air Commander, prompting a shocked Black Panther Man to realize the true identity of the force possessing Teletraan 15. {{storylink|Starscream? Volume}} Teletraan 10 tried fighting back in true slapstick anime style, but Starscream just blasted her with eyebeams. In 2010, Starscream's ghost teamed up with the [[Quintesson|Quintessons]], who built him a powerful new body. This new body, equipped with attacks such as "Right Arm Decepticon Gun" and the "Revolver Laser", was created using a combination of Optimus Prime's and Megatron's designs. The result was [[Guiltaur]].

Guiltaur joined the Decepticons and quickly became Galvatron's right-hand man (literally—in, like, 5 seconds). Galvatron tricked Rodimus Prime into engaging him in a one-on-one battle in which Guiltaur faked defeat. When Rodimus least suspected it, Guiltaur attacked and laid the smack down. Galvatron complimented Guiltaur on his power and loyalty, and instinctively, Guiltaur beat the crap out of Galvatron and declared his ambition to take over the Decepticons. Rodimus Prime and Galvatron called a truce and joined forces to defeat Guiltaur. They wrecked him something fierce, destroying his body and forcing out Starscream's ghost. His errant spark still wandering throughout time and space, Starscream's ghost found his way into a [[Henkei! Henkei! (franchise)|parallel universe]], where he immediately began sowing his usual brand of terror. Possessing this new world's native Octane, he attacked [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], but was taken down by [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]]. Undeterred, Starscream's ghost simply departed the fallen Decepticon's body and contemplated which Autobot to possess next. {{storylink|Mirage's Rebirth}}

After defeating Mirage, however, Starscream discarded the notion of possessing an Autobot, and decided to turn his attention to taking out this world's Megatron instead. Pulling his old coronation cape and [[Transformer clothing|crown]] out of nowhere, he took off for the Decepticon base, but was immediately blasted through the chest by Megatron as soon as he arrived. Naturally, the blast had no effect on his ghostly form, greatly intriguing Megatron. {{storylink|Starscream's Ambition}}

Megatron quickly deduced that this was not his world's Starscream, and sent Astrotrain and Onslaught against him, but Starscream's ghost simply possessed Onslaught and began rampaging. Mirage and Ironhide arrived in the middle of the battle to try and help take out Starscream, but then, while Starscream was in the midst of ranting about possessing the body of this world's Starscream, a portal opened above the combatants and disgorged [[Skids (G1)|Skids]] and [[Screech (Generations)|Screech]], a pair of dimension-hopping "Quantum Operatives" from Starscream's home universe, who had come to take him back there. While these two newcomers were keeping Starscream distracted, Mirage used his illusion-casting powers to create a hologram of Galvatron, terrifying the spectral Decepticon and causing him to flee the universe. {{storylink|Starscream's New Body}}
