The rookie of Team Prime, Ironhide had a major case of hero-worship toward both [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]]. He joined the team in the hopes of earning a [[Combination Spark]].

Optimus Prime paired Ironhide with [[Kicker Jones|Kicker]], in the hopes that the two would help to keep one another under control. Neither was very happy with the partnership at first, but eventually they became good friends.

Ironhide did manage to earn a Combination Spark after several battles, making him able to [[Powerlinx|powerlink]] with [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] and later, [[Cliffjumper (Energon)|Cliffjumper]]. Along with several other Autobots, Ironhide was reformatted into a new paint job to fight Unicron.

Ironhide underwent character growth due to the changes taking place in [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]], whom he looked up to initially. He would eventually lead a rookie team to their deaths against Scorponok, and nearly kill Scorponok in retaliation. In the end, he and Scorponok fought each other into a stasis. His life was saved when Scorponok carried his damaged body to Optimus Prime on Jungle Planet, in order to merge Ironhide's spark with Optimus Prime. He was restored to life afterward and was last seen with Kicker on Ocean Planet.

During the war, Ironhide was a prisoner, forced to use his technical skills to construct doomsday devices for the Decepticons. Unbeknownst to them, he designed failsafes into the devices, effectively neutralizing them automatically should they ever be activated. {{storylink|Aftershock (issue)|Aftershock}}

Much later, ten years following Unicron's defeat, Ironhide was added to Optimus' team. He served as chief architect during the construction of the armed cities built for Earth, and successfully managed to avoid being killed by both Scorponok and Megatron.

:Ironhide transforms into a blue Mazda Tribute, with a rather oversized red speaker/gun turret/high beam lights/thingamajig setup mounted on top. In robot mode, he is able to combine with most Autobot Deluxe and Mega size class toys, forming the top or bottom half of a super robot. In both modes, his turret fires a spring-loaded missile.

:The Japanese release, named Roadbuster, had some minor deco and colour differences; most significantly, the tan plastic parts were replaced by grey, even though they remained tan in the Energon cartoon. The major functional difference between the two toys is that the Japanese version does not have electronics, while the US release does, with sound effects activated by launching the missile.

'''Marty Isenberg''' is an American television writer responsible for co-[[Story editor|story editing]] ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]'' alongside [[Bob Skir]] and story editing ''[[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|Transformers Animated]]''. When he joined the ''Animated'' production staff his first task was to revise the [[production bible]]. Later on, he would pen the original-story ''Animated'' comic series for [[IDW]]. It is his goal to make ''Animated'' "the most fun Transformers series ever". Rock on, Marty.

Marty has also dabbled with voice acting, providing the voice of ''Animated'' [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] for the series' test-track to get early animation before [[David Kaye]] was cast for the role.

[[Meltdown (Animated)|Meltdown]]'s greatest dream is to create the organic equivalent of a Transformer; a human that can take on any form it desires. To that end, he attempted to manipulate two adult humans genetically (the mammal-like one happened to be his lawyer). Sadly, the experiments failed, and he was left with a pair of hideously mutated beings which may be as powerful as any one of [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Prime's]] Autobots, but fall short of the glory for which Meltdown was aiming. They now act in a similar capacity as [[Colossus Rhodes]], playing the role of loyal enforcers/bodyguards.
