Spider-Man possesses the abilities of Earth arachnids, allowing him to fire thread-like projectiles from his wrists. These threads may be used to spin webs of near-limitless size, as well as to capture thieves and other assorted rogues in the selfsame manner as a spider entraps traditional insects. Those who wonder about his boundless strength would be advised to listen closely, as his spectacular might is the result of radioactive energy flowing through his very veins. The aforementioned web-like materials fired from his wrists can also be used as a means of swinging to and fro, meaning that those who wish to observe the Spider-Man in action can best do so by simply looking overhead. In addition, he is known to be primarily a nocturnal adventurer, appearing in the deep of night wherever evil is afoot. His alacrity is so great, his timing so amazing, he has been compared to a flash of light. ===Marvel Comics continuity===
noteukonly

In 1984, while covering the news of the new Decepticon fortress in Oregon, Peter Parker/Spider-Man intercepted Gears, who had been sent on a scouting mission, and attacked, thinking Gears was one of the invaders. When Skywarp threw a tank at a gaggle of unwary reporters, Gears saved them, convincing Spider-Man he was good.

Spider-Man teamed up with the Autobots to help rescue Sparkplug Witwicky from the Decepticons. Spider-Man noted that he has had many adventures in his long history as a superhero. Optimus Prime replied that he is sure tales of his exploits would be interesting... they could possibly even be described as amazing.

Spidey managed to get the Autobots past the army with a little subterfuge, which lasted about ten seconds. While the Autobots dealt with both the human army and some invading Decepticons, he and Gears made their way into the base. After dispatching the cassettes and Soundwave, the pair found Sparkplug, and Megatron! He used his webbing to completely mummify Megatron, but it didn't hold for very long. Megatron blasted a hole in the floor of their base, so Gears, and Sparkplug would plummet to their deaths. Webbing saved Spider and Spark, but couldn't hold Gears' weight.

Spider-Man was aghast that the Autobots would treat their comrade's apparent death so nonchalantly. He followed the Autobots back to the Ark, and Prime failed to explain in any adequate sense how Gears was neither dead nor alive right then. But Spider-Man couldn't stick around, so he left. Prisoner of War!
Later, Spider-Man had become an iconic figure wearing a different costume, featuring a red mask with a black spiderweb pattern. Noah Acton wears a t-shirt bearing his likeness, indicating either kid appeal or counterculture status. Decepticon Graffiti!
New Avengers/Transformers
As part of the Avengers, Spider-Man traveled to Latveria to investigate Doctor Doom's apparent attack on the neighboring country, Symkaria. Upon arrival, he and his fellow heroes found a dome-shaped structure emitting radiation and broke into it. Inside the building, they came under attack from automated laser turrets, and while Spider-Man was busy webbing them up and cracking jokes, he was suddenly electrocuted into submission and kidnapped by a car. When he regained consciousness, he found himself strapped to a table by a giant robot named Megatron, who explained that the hero was about to help him and his Decepticons conquer the world. Man and Machine, Part One Megatron began extracting Spider-Man's radioactive blood, refining it into a powerful energon isotope that he used to supercharge his troops. All Spidey could do was lay there and weakly taunt him. Man and Machine, Part Two

Luke Cage and Ratchet came to his rescue, but were promptly defeated by the charged-up Megatron. Man and Machine, Part Three However, after Megatron left to deal with the attacking Avengers and Autobots outside, Spider-Man proved he still had enough strength to burst out of his restraints. After meeting with Ratchet and Prowl, he agreed to power them up using Megatron's device as well. Ultimately, he didn't have to sacrifice even more blood, though, as Wolverine offered to take his place. Spider-Man followed Ratchet and Prowl outside, where he webbed up Megatron in an attempt to stop him from escaping. It ultimately failed, but at least he made the Decepticon leader look mighty silly as he lay tied up and helpless on the ground! After everything was wrapped up, Spidey and the other Avengers returned home on the Quinjet. Man and Machine, Part Four

Crossovers
Unseen scientist Mister Fantastic constructed large, transforming battle armour for various superhumans; Spider-Man received two, one based on each of his costumes, both of which could transform into a high-speed motorcycle. It is likely Richards gained the idea from Spider-Man, as it is inconceivable the encounter with the Transformers wouldn't have a lasting impact on the vigilante.

One sign of such an impact is that Spider-Man's activities seem to be focused solely on fighting hostile aliens. One of those aliens has somehow stolen and altered Spider-Man's loyal living costume; how he'll reclaim it is unknown. He clearly misses it, based on his second, black-painted armour!

Spider-Man later teamed up with fellow superhero Iron Man, who built him a third battle suit—one that transformed into a helicopter and could combine with Iron Man's own bomber mech to form a "super jet".

Iron Man apparently has a soft spot for the wall-crawler, as he constructed Spider-Man a fourth battle suit for when two wheels just aren't good enough. The transforming car mech can match Iron Man's suit in speed and is better armored than the original cycle suit.
Also , much of his transformation mirrors that of the 2007 movie Arcee.
*Spider-Man (Marvel, 2010)

:This Spider-Man toy transforms into a streamlined futuristic "Spider-Car" based loosely on a LeMans-style racer. It is fairly compact and unfolds in to a roughly 7" tall robot with much more angular features than the original motorcycle version. Unlike nearly ever other Crossovers figure, this one lacks a gimmick of any kind other than being a transforming Spider-Man.

:The toy's instructions are somewhat crazy, as they go through the entire transformation sequence, then it ends with a picture of Spider-Man transformed a totally different way from the waist down (resembling the picture on the back of the card). This was likely done because transforming him the correct way makes it impossible for him to stand without splaying his legs far out to the sides. The instructions also fail to note the step wherein his legs extends slightly to reveal double-jointed knees.

* It's occasionally claimed that a Spider-Man story published as part of the "Clone Saga" during the 1990s features a line where Peter claims that he had never been to Oregon, thereby "clearly" establishing Spidey's guest appearance in issue 3 of the Marvel US Transformers comic as being not part of the mainstream ("616") Marvel universe. In fact, however, Peter claims (in a monologue) having never been to Utah in Spider-Man #57 (1995), since Kaine's murder of Louise Kennedy had happened there (in Spider-Man: The Lost Years #3).
Synopsis
On Cybertron, the Autobots are unveiling a new generator that will better supply them with power. As Rodimus Prime signals Grimlock to activate the machine, Grimlock causes a few missteps before Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, and Perceptor manage to switch the generator on. Grimlock points out that he is "smartest Dinobot of all," but Perceptor points out that the Dinobots have limited brains. Grimlock, mildly insulted, threatens to bash Perceptor's brain. Elsewhere, a Skuxxoid and Slizardo are sneaking into the generator to place anti-electrons inside the device, as Galvatron has paid them to deliver the anti-electrons to the generator, which would eventually kill the Autobots.

In space, Cosmos and Sky Lynx are flying back to Cybertron, when their auto gyros suddenly begin to malfunction, crashing into the planet. Springer tries to air lift Sky Lynx to safety, but also begins to malfunction. Perceptor concludes that the problem is originating in the generator and Rodimus, Magnus, Grimlock, and Kup head down to investigate. However, Grimlock breaks the device that Perceptor gave them to navigate the tunnels, so they split up. Grimlock and Kup reach the generator's controls, and Kup begins to suffer memory malfunctions. Grimlock deactivates the generator with the ever-appropriate tactic of biting it, but immediately begins to act differently. He speaks in a proper manner, with an extended vocabulary, and appears to have lost his taste for combat. However, Ratbat has been observing them and reports back to Galvatron. Galvatron threatens to kill the Skuxxoid and Slizardo for ruining his plan, as the anti-electrons have already vaporized and were hard to find, but Slizardo reveals that there is another source of anti-electrons...in Unicron's brain.

Back on Cybertron, Grimlock and the Autobots pass the Dinobots fishing in a local pond. Snarl invites Grimlock to join, but Grimlock declines, saying he has more important matters to attend to. The Dinobots are concerned, as they always fish together. Elsewhere, Grimlock concludes that anti-electrons were the source of the problem. As Galvatron's ship approaches Unicron's head, he cautions his soldiers, saying that Unicron may be quite powerful. On Cybertron, the Dinobots seek out Grimlock, who is building a new spaceship, and he asks for their help. Sludge does not like Grimlock's change in attitude, and Slag declares that "Grimlock no fun". With their leader not acting like one of them, the Dinobots decide to go hunting without him. Later, Grimlock has taken Rodimus, Perceptor, and Kup to Unicron's head, having concluded that Unicron's body was the original source. However, Galvatron fires anti-electrons at the shuttle, causing it to crash and the Autobots to malfunction. Galvatron then unleashes the Terrorcons on the Autobots while Grimlock runs off. Grimlock then uses components of Unicron to build Nosecone and asks him to drill a hole into Unicron's brain.

Elsewhere, Cyclonus and Scourge are retrieving the anti-electrons when they reactivate Unicron. The Chaos Bringer's internal defenses activate, but Strafe, another robot built by Grimlock, destroys the defenses. Finally, Grimlock builds three more robots: Afterburner, Lightspeed, and Scattershot, the last of whom he appoints as leader of the Technobots. He sends the Technobots to fight the Terrorcons, and they manage to destroy the anti-electrons as well, but the Terrorcons merge into Abominus. Retreating, the Technobots ask Grimlock for advice, and Grimlock reveals that they are also Combiners, commanding them to merge into Computron. The computational capacity held by the gestalt is massive, yet he claims that he lacks the intelligence to feed it. Grimlock connects a device to Computron's head which transfers his super-intelligence to Computron. Now armed with incredible intelligence, Computron is able to defeat Abominus and send the Decepticons running.

On Cybertron, Rodimus is holding a celebration for the newly functioning generator, the creation of the Technobots, and Grimlock's efforts. However, Sludge reveals that Grimlock is fishing with the Dinobots. Grimlock says that being a genius all the time is no fun, and he'd rather be a regular Dinobot. The Autobots cheer his statement, apparently preferring their one-bot engines of destruction to be simple-minded.
Strafe: Yahoo! It feels great to be a Technobot! My name is Strafe!<br />
Afterburner: Far out! Fantastic! I'm Afterburner! I'm raring to burn neutrons and see some heavy action!<br />
Lightspeed: Mellow out, Afterburner.<br />
Afterburner: Says who?<br />
Lightspeed: They call me Lightspeed, faster than a speeding photon.<br />
Grimlock: And you, Scattershot, will be the leader of the Technobots.
:—The newly created Technobots and Grimlock engage in a brief introdump.

"Come on, Technobots! Let's show them the stuff Grimlock made us of!"

"Me Grimlock say no fun to be genius all the time. Much more fun to be good old Dinobot Grimlock."

Notes
Animation or technical glitches
* When the Autobots activate the power generator, Springer is twice as tall as Kup and Blurr.
* As Perceptor, Grimlock, and Rodimus walk forward to see Blaster's predicament, they seem to appear out of thin air.
* Sludge's neck repeatedly flashes between yellow and grey for a few frames when Grimlock gives him orders.
* During Abominus's combination sequence, Hun-Gurrr transforms into Blot and Sinnertwin before combining with himself.
* The Decepticons appear to be far too big when they leave Unicron's head.

Continuity errors
* If Grimlock has proven himself so incompetent, why does Rodimus bring him along to find the power generator? There are plenty of other Autobots that can provide muscle (Springer, for one).
* Also, why does Rodimus have Grimlock of all 'bots activate the generator at the beginning? Why not someone like Perceptor, who's even conveniently nearby when they decide to pull the switch?
* When the Autobots near the power generator, why are Kup and Rodimus affected, but Ultra Magnus and Grimlock aren't? It's possible that Grimlock may not be affected due to his creation on Earth causing him to be made differently than the other Autobots (like in "Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1"), however this doesn't explain Magnus. Maybe Magnus could just deal with it at the moment.
* This isn't an error necessarily, but this episode marks the only time present-day Cybertron has any sort of standing water (in this case, the pool the Dinobots are "fishing" in).
* Why isn't Swoop with the other Dinobots? The writers even bother to have Grimlock point out that Omega Supreme is away on a mission, and yet one of the Dinobots gets left out?
* Blurr can be seen numerous times fighting alongside the Autobots, despite him not being present on the shuttle ride over.
* The origin of the Technobots seems to conflict with the events of "The Key to Vector Sigma" — in those episodes, it is established that Vector Sigma is required to give personalities to Transformers, but here, the Technobots get personalities independently of it. Unlike other continuities, however, the cartoon eschews the use of "magic" objects and explanations to give Transformers life; Vector Sigma is simply treated as an advanced computer, and with this in mind, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the super-smart Grimlock simply has the skill needed to program full, authentic cybernetic personalities into the Technbots on his own. With the introduction of the concept of sparks in much later fiction and the reclassification of Vector Sigma's capabilities, however, the events of this episode are called into question again. Of course, the Dinobots themselves are exceptions as well, so make of that what you will.

Continuity notes
* This episode marks the first appearance of both the Technobots and the Terrorcons.
* Unicron's head is shown to no longer orbit Cybertron, after the events of "Ghost in the Machine" saw it blasted off into space. It's also looking substantially worse for wear than it was the last time we saw it, presumably a consequence of the explosives that were set off in its immediate vicinity in that episode.
* The second time Rodimus Prime's transformation systems malfunction, he reverts into Hot Rod. Most visibly, he transforms into his junior self's vehicle mode. Additionally, his coloring changes to Hot Rod's traditional magenta, and actor Dick Gautier raises his voice in pitch to his normal Hot Rod voice.

Trivia
* While the episode is centered around Grimlock, he never once transforms out of his dinosaur mode. Then again, seeing a T. rex talk with such an extensive vocabulary is kinda funny.

* Artwork for the episode featured in TV Magazine showed Grimlock wearing a mortarboard and lecturing on something complicated.

*The device Grimlock invents to transfer his intelligence into Computron was later rendered in plastic and included with the Super Collection Figure PVC version of Grimlock. It would subsequently be recreated in plastic again for the Masterpiece version of Grimlock, which dubbed the contraption the "Brainwave Transfer Device".

* Grimlock voice actor Gregg Berger has stated that while this was the most difficult episode for him to do (in that it required figuring how an intelligent Grimlock should sound), it was also the episode he enjoyed working on the most.

* Final appearance of Cosmos.
