Dr. Arkeville was offered the chance to rule the world by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], in exchange for the technology to hypnotize humans to use as slaves. What Megatron didn't tell him, however, was that his plan would likely destroy the [[Earth]].

Dr. Arkeville was kidnapped by [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], who used several of his inventions with the intention of using them to blow up the Earth, and then siphon all the released energy. The Doctor's attempt to stop this resulted in a near-lethal shock. He later woke up tied to a chair, having been almost completely rebuilt into a robot body in order to save his life. {{storylink|Countdown to Extinction}}

====Binaltech (Japan-only)====

A member of the [[Concurrence]], a cabal of influential humans dedicated to ridding Earth of the Transformers, Dr. Arkeville used a combination of his hypno-chip technology along with [[Bombshell]]'s [[cerebro-shell]]s to take control of several members of the [[Binaltech]] project. The Concurrence then forced them to revive Decepticons injured by [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]]'s [[Cosmic Rust]] as Binaltechs. They intended to use the Decepticon Binaltechs to eliminate the Autobots and then vanquish the remaining Decepticons, turning the Solar system into a Robot-Free "resort".

Unbeknownst to the Concurrence, Dr. Arkeville had his own agenda (''surprise, surprise''). Over many years and with stolen technology, Dr. Arkeville constructed a Binaltech warrior of his own, meant to be the greatest military commander in history: [[Nemesis Prime (Alternators)|Nemesis Prime]]. To ensure that his creation be powerful enough to counter any Autobot threat, Arkeville managed to tap into an [[Unicron|extra-spatial power source]]. During the construction of Nemesis Prime, a mysterious Autobot [[spark]] hijacked his creation. Nemesis Prime eventually rejected the spark and returned to Arkeville via AI control, where Arkeville granted it life through the power source he had discovered.

The '''Dinobots''' are a rowdy, arrogant, low-brow, disobedient band of warriors that some Autobots would rather scrap than deal with. They're also one of the most devastatingly powerful and close-knit combat units in the Autobot army.

Built on [[Earth]] by [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], the Dinobots are a subgroup of Autobots with great physical power, but very limited intelligence. They were modeled after the Dinosaur fossils that [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] found in the volcanic caves near the [[Ark]]. Initially only three were built (Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge) in the episode "[[S.O.S. Dinobots]]", but two others (Snarl and Swoop) were added in the episode "[[War of the Dinobots]]".

It is unclear how to interpret this origin in concert with the idea, established later in the cartoon series, that new Transformers are granted life by the super computer [[Vector Sigma]]. Although slow-witted, the Dinobots give every indication of being fully "alive", sapient beings. Some fans suggest that [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] used the Matrix to give them life, but this is not supported by canon, particularly since in this continuity he carries the [[Matrix of Leadership]], which was never shown to have the life-granting powers of the [[Creation Matrix]] until it was [[retcon]]ned by Beast Era fiction. Retroactively, it can be guessed that the Matrix may have been involved, but when the G1 cartoon is viewed in isolation, there is something amiss.

The Dinobots in the comic were not created on Earth, but were a distinct and pre-existing unit of five Autobot soldiers that were aboard the Ark when it crashed to Earth. The comic Dinobots, while not exactly [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]]-grade, were significantly more intelligent than their cartoon counterparts. (Their commander, Grimlock, served as overall Autobot Commander on more than one occasion.)However, the not as strong as their cartoon counterparts either. Shortly after the crash the Ark's computer detected [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] landing on the planet in the [[Antarctica|Antarctic]] land-out-of-time that would one day become known as the [[Savage Land]]. The Ark used the last of its capabilities to revive these five warriors and rebuild them to transform into the Savage Land's dominant lifeform: dinosaurs. They were then dispatched to deal with the Decepticon, where they sank to the bottom of a tar pit and remained dormant until [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] revived them in the 1980s.

It was established that Grimlock once commanded a splinter-faction of Autobots known as the [[Lightning Strike Coalition]], that included the pre-Dinobots. It was also established that following this, these five robots used the Cybertronic designation "Dynobots."

The Dynobots travelled to earth separate from the rest of the Autobots. Grimlock emerged on his own, and the Ark Autobots found him battling the [[Insecticons]]. The fate of the other Dinobots was unknown, but somehow Megatron had captured them and kept them in stasis in a secret base. After freeing them they travelled to Cybertron and helped liberate it from Shockwave's control.

The story "Paddles" features a sixth Dinobot of the same name. This is also the only appearance of the character.

Before the Great War, Grimlock and the Dynobots were amongst the gladiatorial teams that competed in the [[Forge]]. When Megatron put out a call for combatants, the Dynobots were amongst those who were shown grudging respect by the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacon]]s as opposed to the remainder of the "amateurs" in the crowd.

In a similar fashion to the Marvel and Dreamwave continuity, the Dynobots followed [[Shockwave]] to Earth on a revenge-fueled crusade. After engaging the Decepticon on Prehistoric Earth in their new dinosaurian beast-modes, The battle ended with the six robots buried in molten lava. They were later unearthed by a human archaelogical dig {{storylink|Spotlight: Shockwave}} which was taken over by government agents {{storylink| Escalation, Issue 5}}

The label 'brat punk' isn't completely inaccurate. '''Rumble''' is your basic street punk. Small, but always acting tough as a cover. Not exactly the most subtle of [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]]'s [[Mini-Cassette|spies]], but what he lacks in descretion, he compensates by being the brawler of the group. Quick tempered and of a generally mean disposition, he follows [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] eagerly. Rumble has a tendency to toss out a taunting rhyme at his enemies and is, according to [[Brawn]], a "jerk".

As the Decepticon demolitions expert, Rumble loves nothing more than to break things apart. His arms can transform into powerful piledrivers that, when pounded against the ground, can cause earthquakes, usually with fissures. He can be easily overpowered in a one-on-one match, though the real challenge, however, is actually getting to him first.

Rumble's achievements in the comic amounted to not being able to see humans because they were too small, and getting his chassis handed to him by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. It took him a very long time to get better.

Rumble was one of the original Decepticon raiding party that crashed into Earth four million years ago aboard the [[Ark]]. Reawakened in 1984, he was reformatted into an audio cassette that fit snugly into Soundwave's chest compartment. Despite his small size (he was usually shown to be about the height of a tall human), he seemed to be on equal footing with most other Decepticons. No doubt this was due to his seismic power, which was used quite often (including once by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] [[Heavy Metal War|when he had borrowed]] Rumble's [[power chip rectifier]]). Even without the use of his seismic attacks, Rumble would often go head to head with full sized Autobots, even having a (short-lived, at least) rivalry with the Autobot [[Hound (G1)|Hound]]. A common Decepticon tactic was to use Rumble to use his earth-shaking abilities to agitate hydroelectric power sources, as the Decepticons did at [[Sherman Dam]] and [[Great Falls]].

Assisted by his diminutive stature, Rumble was also responsible for stealing some of the cars that would later become the [[Stunticon|Stunticons]].

Rumble was effectively doubled by his bodytype-brother [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]]. Both had identical voices, personalities and abilities, though Rumble appeared alone more often than not.

Accessories include two back-mounted weapons, one of which doubles as his engine in car mode and the other which fits into his trunk.

:Originally intended for normal retail release in the US, he and wave-mate [[Ravage]] got relegated to being Wal-Mart [[exclusive]]s, released in late March of 2007. Both were available at normal retail in various European markets. He and Ravage are notable for being the first Decepticon Alternators to be entirely new molds, rather than an Autobot mold reworked to be someone else.
