This caused him to defect to the Autobots, something virtually unheard of. He's a fine asset, powerful and possessing the ability to teleport across great distances. This is slightly offset by the fact he's so old, his processor gave up the ghost millennia ago. These days he has a hard enough time remembering his name. It makes him a bit crotchety and also leaves him with the nagging feeling he's forgotten something important.

In the distant past, the [[All Spark (Movie)|All Spark]] Cube created [[Thirteen original Transformers|a race]] of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the All Spark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

Jetfire was among the very first of these new beings, a "[[Seeker (ROTF)|Seeker]]" with the ability to travel across the vastness of space in search of new suns. The surge of energy awoke him, and the cantankerous old robot wandered outside, pausing only to bang his head on the door. Confused and disoriented, only the efforts of the [[human]]s and ex-Decepticon brought his senses back. Jetfire revealed that during the war he had joined the Autobots and upon hearing the name of the Fallen, he teleported the entire group (including [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] and [[Skids (ROTF)|the]] [[Mudflap (ROTF)|twins]]) to [[Egypt]], where he told them the story of the [[Dynasty of Primes]] and The Fallen, Cybertron's first contact with Earth and the [[Solar harvester|Solar Harvester]], a life-giving device that could destroy the [[Sun]]. During the final battle around the [[Pyramid|Great Pyramid of Giza]] (which contained the Solar Harvester), Jetfire arrived and attempted to "stick" the landing, which didn't go quite as he planned. He immediately decided to "show how they brought the pain in my day", slicing [[Mixmaster (ROTF)|Mixmaster]] in half, and crushing his upper torso. He was critically wounded by a surprise attack from [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]] and although he managed to kill the Decepticon, the injury was fatal. As he lay dying, Jetfire, who felt that during his entire life he'd never done a thing worth doing, he persuaded the resurrected Optimus Prime to take his parts and "discover a power like you've never known". Ripping out his own [[spark]] core, Jetfire died. With help from [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]] and [[Jolt (ROTF)|Jolt]], Jetfire's remains were fused with Optimus, who became more powerful than ever.

The Autobots have found a home in "NEST", a secret military unit created to seek out and eliminate the remaining Decepticons. All is not well, however. Unbeknownst to them, Soundwave is in orbit, coordinating the Decepticon counterstrike. After Ravage steals the Allspark shard from NEST, a team of Constructicons and The Doctor journey to the bottom of the ocean and use it revive Megatron. The Decepticon leader journeys to the crashed Nemesis, rebukes Starscream, and meets with his master, The Fallen.

The Fallen explains that he had constructed a Solar Harvester on Earth, in violation of the Primes' code to never harm an inhabited planet. The Primes turned on him, banished and imprisoned him. However the Harvester still stands, and only one Prime remains. If Megatron destroys Optimus Prime, The Fallen will be freed to activate the Harvester, which will kill off the humans and provide the Decepticons with enough energon to raise an army. Megatron eagerly agrees, and returns to Earth with a vengeance.

It transpires that the location of the Harvester is hidden within Sam Witwicky, who absorbed the knowledge from another Allspark fragment. The Decepticons begin an all-out war across the Earth as they hunt down the human, and the Autobots and NEST are blamed for the ensuing carnage. Witwicky goes to ground, and must turn to unlikely allies in the race to find a solution. Ultimately, the last of the Primes defeats The Fallen, destroys the Harvester, and proves the Transformers' greatest power is found in their unexpectedly-ancient alliance with the humans.

==Transformers references==
In addition to carryovers from the previous film, various concepts and characters are derived from previous iterations of Transformers:
* The whole concept of "Transformers disguised as a human" used for [[Alice]] is inspired by the [[Pretender]]s. Roberto Orci even used the term "Pretender" during an interview before the movie release. However, a Transformer with an "organic" alt-mode instead of an external shell is a concept more reminiscent of the [[Beast Era]].
* The Generation 1 iteration of [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] is frequently portrayed as switching from Decepticon to Autobot (he's usually a young and technologically up-to-the-minute 'bot, however.)
* [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and his ejectible minion [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] both have Generation 1 counterparts. Movie Soundwave even has the same voice actor as 1984 cartoon Soundwave, using the same voice, though without the synthetic vocal processing that made the cartoon voice so distinctive.
* [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] bears little physical resemblance to his Generation 1 namesake, but is a vaguely similar character archetype, and he ''does'' have that characteristic door armor hanging from his elbows.

Since one Constructicon was killed to repair Megatron, shouldn't there be only five contacts going up as well? Keep in mind, Scalpel is too small to register on sonar, but Ravage is just large enough.
*When Jetfire is activated at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (actually the [[Wikipedia:Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center|Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center]], an annex of the Smithsonian) in Washington, he leaves the exhibition center and exits into the desert location of the [[Wikipedia:309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group|309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (aka The Boneyard)]], which is in Tuscon, Arizona. Given that this and the Transformers are the ''only'' changes between this universe and ours, that's a stretch.
*During Sam's campus freakout, when he drops his notes on the steps, a blonde woman in a suit can be seen coming down the steps to his left, nearly reaching him. However, when the camera angle shifts, the woman is suddenly at the top of the stairs again.

Starscream created the clones in a multi-step process. After [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] and [[Lockdown]] captured and then lost the original Starscream on the Moon, his sycophantic clone destroyed Prowl's shuttle and headed for Earth. The two bots followed him, but bumped into the cowardly clone first. After capturing him, Lockdown double-crossed Prowl and dragged the clone away. As the Autobots gave chase, the Sycophant appeared and offered to deal. Prowl wasn't having any of it, and after a brief skirmish, managed to get the [[stasis cuffs]] on him. Both Lockdown and the Autobots took the clones to an abandoned warehouse, where the Decepticons were waiting. As everyone was understandably shocked, some sort of program deactivated the clones' higher functions and opened their spark chambers, which were empty... except for a pair of powerful bombs. As Lockdown and the Decepticons made a break for it, Prowl welded his borrowed mods to the pair and launched them into the sky, where they exploded. The Decepticons were caught in the blast wave, but the city was saved. In the wreckage of the ''[[Nemesis (Animated)|Nemesis]]'', a disappointed but pragmatic Starscream consoled himself with the fact he still had plenty left. {{storylink|A Fistful of Energon}}

While Megatron was officially bringing the Constructicons into his army on Earth, Starscream was doing the same with his fifth clone on the Moon. Immediately after he brought his final clone on-line, however, the neurotic ensemble began giving him trouble, and he learned that each of them embodied a distilled facet of his personality: his cowardice, his sycophancy, his deceitfulness, his egomania...and one facet that warned him not to ask what she was. {{storylink|A Bridge Too Close, Part I‎}}

After bringing the five clones to life, the Starscreams all flew to Earth after Megatron made the [[space bridge]]. Starscream attacked the Decepticons with his new army and lost two clones (along with Blurr) in a blob of cement, and soon after lost his head to Prof. Sumdac. The two clones who were warped into space with Blurr were able to escape their cement prison, but were left behind in space as Blurr darted away. {{storylink|TransWarped}}
