Disaffected, unruly, and thirsty for slaughter, Kaon was an obvious location for the fomenting of [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron's]] underground Decepticon movement.

The [[Autobot High Council|High Council]] ignored the emerging [[gladiatorial combat]] in the areas surrounding Kaon, acknowledging it was the inhabitants' only escape in their lives. The Dropships take the prisoners to Kaon Prison, and Decepticon soldiers escort them to cells or are executed by Titans. Or, they could be sent to 'recycling', where the prisoners are thrown into a strong current, and crushed in a masher. The city houses huge idustrial buildings, which may include weapons manufaturing, or experimental labs. During the Decepticon assault of Iacon, Soundwave raided an Autobot base, and his troops took prisoners and energon. When Optimus, Ratchet, and Bumblebee arrived. He detected them, and ordered some troops to attack and destroy them, while he and the other Decepticons left in a Dropship for Kaon with the energon and prisoners.

When [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]] followed strange energy readings, he found the ''Nemesis'' hovering over a crater filled with [[Energon (fuel)|Energon]]. The ship fired on him before disgorging [[Eradicon|Decepticon drones]] who cleaned his clock. He was dragged back to the ship where [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] dispatched him. The ship sailed off before the rest of the [[Autobot]]s could reach the location. Starscream used the ship's equipment to open the [[space bridge]], allowing [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]]'s return. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 1}} Once Megatron had come on board with the chunk of [[Dark Energon]] he'd found, they flew the ship to the main Decepticon Energon mine. There it stayed until the Autobots attacked the mine in search of Cliffjumper, and Megatron ordered the mine destroyed. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 2}}

Megatron's use of the Dark Energon on himself set the Decepticon leader on a new path, and he temporarily left control of the ship in Starscream's hands. After [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] intercepted a communication from [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]], Starscream had the human kidnapped, and parked the ''Nemesis'' in a canyon while he interrogated Fowler. The ship was attacked by [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]]. While fighting the Decepticons stationed on top of the ''Nemesis'', he ripped the ship's main dish off and used to demolish some of the Decepticons. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 3}} He, [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] and [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] invaded the ship, along with their three humans companions. While the three kids were left in a side room, the Autobots headed to the ship's brig, where they were able to rescue Fowler.
