Mixmaster

:Mixmaster is a Decepticon Triple Changer from the Revenge of the Fallen franchise in the live-action film continuity family.

A genius chemist, Mixmaster serves as a weapons designer to the Decepticon elite. He has spent his entire lifespan mastering the intricacies of chemical reactions, becoming an expert in poisons, corrosive substances, and most especially explosives. He has a knack for improvisation, being able to make deadly concoctions from just the native materials a world has to offer. A member of the Constructicons, when Devastator is formed he constitutes the lumbering beast's head.

There are two of him, one of which forms the head of Devastator, the other may or may not be also named "Mixmaster".

In the distant past, the AllSpark Cube created a race of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of Cybertron. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the AllSpark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

The "Mixmaster" body-type was among the very first of these new beings, one of several "builders" who would construct a harvester when a suitable sun had been found. Once built, the device would drain the energy of these stars, thus replenishing the AllSpark. Defiance issue 4

One of the Mixmasters was part of The Fallen's early Decepticons. On Earth, he and his brothers were sicced on the turncoat Jetfire. Mixmaster was the last one standing and managed to get the Seeker in a crushing embrace, informing him "You die". Jetfire got out of this by teleporting into Earth's atmosphere, causing Mix's death by atmosphere re-entry. Tales of the Fallen issue 3

It is presumed that at some point during the civil war on Cybertron, a surviving Mixmaster(s) sided with Megatron, the new protege of the Fallen.

Mixmaster was the leader of the Constructicons on the Nemesis. He grumbled at Soundwave for ordering them to stay in the Longshots cargo hold when they left the damaged Nemesis to pursue the Ark. Convergence chapter 1
Revenge of the Fallen movie
After the AllSpark shard was retrieved from NEST's secure bunker at Diego Garcia, Long Haul, Rampage, Mixmaster, Scalpel, Ravage and another, smaller Constructicon secreted themselves aboard the Bayos freighter heading towards the North Atlantic. Once the ship passed over the Laurentian Abyss, the Decepticons jumped overboard and dove down to where Megatron's broken body lay. Scalpel ordered the death of the smallest Constructicon to rebuild Megatron, a request that Mixmaster and the others obliged with. Soon, Megatron was reborn!

After Megatron killed Optimus Prime, Mixmaster climbed the Brooklyn Bridge and knocked down the American flag in a display of dominance.

Some time later, Mixmaster and another Constructicon with the same body-type were present in Egypt during Operation: Firestorm. Mixmaster and several other Constructicons waited in a quarry in their construction vehicle disguises until the humans Seymour Simmons, Leo Spitz and their Autobot guardians Skids and Mudflap approached. The Constructicons combined into the mighty Devastator and attacked.

Elsewhere, the other Mixmaster fought against the NEST forces in the Egyptian town near the great ruins of the pyramids, using his cannon emplacement mode to cause serious problems, until the ex-Decepticon Jetfire arrived to slice him in half and crush his torso, popping his head off and killing him.

Meanwhile, Devastator had shrugged off the Autobot twins and was busy demolishing the Great Pyramid of Giza when Simmons called upon the United States Navy to attack Devastator. The U.S.S. Kidd fired her experimental rail gun, smashing one of his arms to pieces and destroying Devastator. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

Mixmaster was one of the Decepticons dispatched to intercept an evacuation led by Ratchet and a NEST convoy. He led an assault group which was able to destroy the convoy; however, the evacuation had already ended. Since his mission had failed, Mixmaster tried to console himself by killing Ratchet and was able to put him in a critical state before Ironhide arrived and helped him. Mixmaster threw Ratchet away and ordered his troops to attack Ironhide, but the Autobot defeated them. Mixmaster then decided to take care of the situation by himself, but ended up trapped under a platform dropped by Ironhide.

However, this didn't stop him for too long, and he was able to quickly get out and place his remaining soldiers into a scrapyard. The troops were once again defeated by Ironhide and his new weapon sent by Wheeljack. Mixmaster was too confident that the weapon wasn't strong enough to take out his shields, and he attacked with no warning. During the battle, his shields were in fact destroyed by Ironhide's new weapon, turning the tide of the battle towards Ironhide's favor. Ironhide defeated the Decepticon and terminated his opponent, gangland execution-style.
:Mixmaster and the six other Legends class Constructicons combine to form Devastator. In Japan, the Legends class Constructicons were sold individually. Mixmaster has the dubious honor of pulling Devastator's face around like a rectal growth in robot mode. He forms (you guessed it) the head of Devastator.
Voyager Class toys
*Mixmaster (Voyager, 2009)
**Japanese ID number: RD-12
**Accessories: Missile

: Voyager Class Revenge of the Fallen Mixmaster transforms into a gray and silver cement mixer with purple windows and headlights, based loosely on the Mack Granite truck seen in the film. The vehicle mode's mixing drum is incapable of rotating due to the transformation, but does boast a pair of gigantic Decepticon logos on either side. The cement chute at the rear of the vehicle mode can accurately raise and lower on a hinge, and the cannon can be fixed to fire directly overhead or behind at pursuing vehicles.

: His robot mode is designed to be squat with very long arms, but in order to be fully functional and look like the stock photo, his legs at the hip joints must be slightly mistransformed from what is depicted in his instructions. This results in a robot mode that is very thin and lanky, with numerous joints on the extremely long arms alone. The packaging calls out Mech Alive gimmickry in the form of "spinning gears" on his chest, but the feature is only present at the thighs and forearms, which reveal shifting internal bits when the joints are rotated. The robot mode's missile-firing cannon is locked in place on its back pointing straight upward; it can be raised over Mixmaster's head, although this involves letting the cab hang loose on his back as it's designed to attach to the cannon. Alternately the toy can be transformed to its artillery cannon-like Battle Mode that has him essentially performing a belly flop, letting the launcher fire forward. At least, according to the Battle Mode's official depiction on the instructions.

: The instructions and the box pictures show the joint that attaches the cab to the robot to be inverted, with the released toy having the cab joint upside-down as compared with what is in the instructions and box pictures. Out of the box, the toy cannot exactly mimic the battle mode of the instructions or stock photos, but it's close enough for most people to assume they were doing something wrong until one realizes this mis-assembly. The joint can be corrected by the removal and re-attachment of the metal pin behind the front-bumper, but this is not as easy as it sounds and may potentially be damaging to the toy. This only applies to the Hasbro version of the instructions, however, as the Japanese Takara release had instructions depicting a completely different battle mode, which utilised the joint in the direction it is assembled, as well as pegs and holes present on the rear wheel segments and the inside of the cab respectively. Unfortunately, the transformation instructions have since been removed from the Takara website.

: The image of the cement mixer mode on the packaging has been flipped horizontally as well, leaving the location of the ladder switched. Additionally, the robot mode image on the packaging has a different mold for the mixing drum shells, with rectangular-shaped pegs rather than circular.
:Available only in the Toys"R"Us-exclusive "Back Road Brawl" figure pack with Hoist, this release of Mixmaster features a new head that was gang-molded to Mixmaster, but until now went unused. His colour scheme has been extensively redecoed in a layout resembling the Generation 1 Constructicons. He is decorated with a small tampograph reading "Ol' Lefty", a reference to how Generation 1 Mixmaster formed Devastator's left leg.
*Constructicon Devastator (2009)

:The Mixmaster component of the Devastator set becomes Devastator's head. He contains the lights and sounds for Devastator, as well as individual sounds for his vehicle mode. They are motion activated, which means he never, ever shuts up. As with the other Constructicon members in this set, Mixmaster does not have his own robot mode. To activate sounds (if you're willing to do so, that is), press down on a lever on Devastator's chest. Doing so will raise Devastator's mighty head and open his mouth, and cause one of a myriad of sounds to play, including: "I am.... DEVASTATOR!" "CRUSH... AUTOBOTS!" "MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" "I am...DECEPTICON!". In Devastator mode, pressing the button down for a few moments also activates his "vortex grinder". Transforming him back into his own component activates the transformation sound when the face cover is pulled from the underside of his truck mode. After that, he randomly starts making engine stalling noises whenever you look at him funny.
*Constructicon Devastator (2009)
: Mega Power Bots Devastator is a simple toy for younger children, featuring plenty of playing sounds and flashing lights. His limbs have limited swivel articulation and do not detach into separate vehicles. He has a distinctly more humanoid stature than normal.

: Unlike regular Power Bots, and unlike other portrayals of the character in general, Devastator features a transformation! It consists of putting his arms up and laying him flat on his stomach, which lets him roll around using the wheels on his limbs.

: Pressing down the Decepticon shield on his crotch (!) spins the vortex in his chest, lights up his eyes and makes him utter one of many Welker-recorded phrases, including "Prepare for extermination!", "Crush Autobots!" and "I am Devastator!" Pressing on the crane of his excavator arm makes a cannon blast sound effect, while pressing the cab of his loader arm turns the scoop into claws.
Unlike Takara's go at the same idea, Mixmaster and the other Constructicons are mostly just lime green and gray, with the only bits of purple being their windshields. :This retailer exclusive multi-pack recreated the scene in Revenge of the Fallen where the Constructicons resurrect Megatron. The Mixmaster figure itself appears to be an unchanged version from the Revenge of the Fallen release of the Legends Constructicon Devastator combiner figure, and comes packed with (apparently) similarly unchanged Constructicon Devastator figures of Long Haul, Rampage, a red redeco of Scrapper, who was probably intended to be Scrapmetal, and a metallic green redeco of Voyager class Megatron

Notes
*According to Ben Procter's concept art, Mixmaster originally had a friendly face based on that of actor Brendan Gleeson... and was apparently going to be an Autobot. The early head design was actually put to use in the Generation 1 Mixmaster-themed redeco store exclusive, as well as the Legends Mixmaster.

*Not unlike Bonecrusher in the first movie, Revenge of the Fallen sees Mixmaster (and indeed, quite a lot of other Decepticons) emit some heavily-processed, garbled Cybertronian noise that could maybe pass for English dialogue if you cup your ear and turn your head sideways. The difference is that the DVD subtitles actually interpret the roar he lets out before transforming to battle mode as the sentence fragment "Listen up..." Unlike Bonecrusher, however, no voice actor is listed in the end credits.

*Though the green Mixmaster was a Toy'R Us exclusive, he was featured as a co-sell on exclusive products sent to competing stores (notably the Super Tuner Showdown, exclusive to Walmart)

*There are evidently two or three Mixmasters. One forms Devastator's head, another was killed by Jetfire, and the one in the Dark of the Moon video game for PS3 and XBOX 360 could be the same one that formed Devastator's head, or possibly another one.
Topspin

:Topspin is an Autobot from the Dark of the Moon portion of the live-action film series continuity family.

If it doesn't result in at least a few dings and scraped paint, Topspin isn't interested. To him, buckled and burnt armor are signs of a life well-led. He's proud of being one tough bot, and is more than happy to wear the scars to prove it.

He's one of the Wreckers.

Fiction
Dark of the Moon (film)
Topspin, Leadfoot and Roadbuster, collectively known as the Wreckers, by Charlotte Mearing, had arrived with the second wave of Autobots aboard the Autobot ship, the Xantium, and were rarely let off of the NASA base because of their attitude. They would spend most of their time working on repairing their ship along with some human engineers, including Robert Epps.

When Sentinel Prime announced that the current occupation force of Autobots was to be exiled or the Earth would face the wrath of hundreds of Decepticons, the three prepared the ship for launch and accompanied Optimus Prime and the others aboard, sending the ship into the atmosphere - where it was then targeted and blown to smithereens by Starscream, seemingly killing all the Autobots aboard. Undaunted by this, the Autobot's human allies nonetheless tried to launch an incursion into Decepticon-held Chicago.

Fortunately for them, the Autobots were not actually aboard the ship, and had only feigned their deaths in order to keep the Decepticons from following up on their global threat. Topspin and the other Wreckers swung into action immediately, rescuing Epps, Sam Witwicky and a group of soldiers from a Decepticon fighter and executed the pilot before preparing to head into the battle zone.

While the Autobots were scouting a route to the building containing Sentinel's Space bridge pillars, Shockwave and his pet Driller separated Optimus from his weapons trailer. Optimus ordered Topspin and the other Wreckers to create a distraction so that he could retrieve it, and in their armored racecar forms fired at Shockwave with their machineguns until being forced to retreat, leaving behind Wheelie and Brains, who had hitched a ride with them. After Optimus had become snared in a construction site's cables, the Wreckers set out to free him. After doing so they rejoined the battle, battling against a long-limbed Decepticon. After the battle Topspin stood with the other survivors, accepting that Cybertron was gone forever and that Earth was their new home. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)
Cyberverse
* Autobot Topspin (Cyberverse Legion, 2011)
**Series: 1
**Number: 004
**Japanese ID number: CV10

: Part of the first wave of Cyberverse toys, Topspin is a Legion-scale figure that transforms into a NASCAR Sprint Cup Chevy Impala stock car, specifically Jimmie Johnson's Lowes and Kobalt sponsored #48 car. Like the other NASCAR-based DOTM toys, both versions of Topspin lack the multiple small "contingency" sponsor decals found on a full-sized NASCAR racer.

: He's pretty much a shellformer with a two-step transformation and very limited articulation. As a consequence, his robot mode is very small compared to the Legion Class toys of his two fellow Wreckers. In addition, unlike the his two fellow Wreckers, his vehicle mode is an unchanged version of the real-life stock car he's based on, even though the movie depicted all three Wreckers with their weapons permanently exposed in vehicle mode. Thus, he stands out next to Leadfoot and Roadbuster in both modes.

:The stock photos depicted on his packaging (see also the image to the left), which feature a hand-painted prototype, show him with his forearms/hands swapped compared to the final toy: In the stock photos, it's the right hand that's an articulated claw while the left hand is sculpted to hold Cyberverse weapons or clip onto C joint bars, whereas the respective arms can be found on the opposite sides on the final toy. The instructions, which depict an unpainted resin prototype, match up with the final toy, thus implying that the prototype used for the stock photos was misassembled.
: Part of the second wave of Dark of the Moon Deluxes, Topspin transforms into a heavily modified version of the same #48 Sprint Cup car as the Cyberverse Legion toy, with two sets of two differently-sized removable guns mounted onto 5mm post holes on the roof and sides of the vehicle. As part of the MechTech series, he has a blaster that converts into a "combat claw", and this weapon, as well as his four removable guns, can be used by other Dark of the Moon MechTech toys or any other Transformers toy with 5mm post holes. The back halves of his vehicle mode can be folded back together into a more compact kibble backpack.

:Though he has prominent claws on his arms, Topspin does have fists sculpted onto his forearms.
* Topspin's robot mode features "sunglasses", a big "chin" and a "mullet", making him resemble a stereotypical NASCAR fan.
* According to a profile during FOX's coverage of the 2011 Daytona 500, the real-world Topspin prop car has 510 horsepower and a 11:1 compression ratio, making it a good bit more powerful than even the real NASCAR #48 it is based on!
* As part of the promotions for Dark of the Moon, the film prop versions of Topspin, Roadbuster, and Leadfoot made appearances at the 2011 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 20th. They appeared both off the track as display cars, and on the track, participating in the ceremonial first lap.
* He's not the first Topspin to be a Wrecker.
* Early working names for him included Tempest and Warpath.
* Topspin is the only one of the three Wreckers (and for that matter, the only new Autobot in the third film) not to have any spoken lines. Originally, he was planned to be voiced by Bill Fagerbakke.
* Despite showing kibble based on Jimmie Johnson's Lowe's sponsored Chevrolet Impala SS, his concept art shows him with the headlights of a Toyota Camry.
Synopsis
At a laboratory, Optimus Prime and the Autobots are being shown a new drone fighter by a human professor. However, Megatron is out to steal the fighter's blueprints from the laboratory. Soundwave and Ravage, who are inside Ironhide, provide a distraction, while Starscream destroys the drone. Prime orders the Autobots to inspect the wreckage for any clues. Shortly after this, the Decepticons attack the lab, but the Autobots arrive and are able to send them packing.

After some fun at the Fun A Rama Park, Spike Witwicky, Carly, and Bumblebee go to pick Sparkplug up at the airport. While there, they discover a Decepticon base in an airplane hangar. Bumblebee calls Prime for reinforcements, but the Autobots with Prime are too far away. Contacting the Autobot base, Wheeljack sends the Dinobots to assist. The Dinobots quickly trash the Decepticons. In retaliation, Megatron orders the Decepticons to blast the planes, causing a massive explosion that damages the Dinobots and allows the Decepticons to retreat. Hoist, Red Alert, and Inferno arrive to put out the fires and take the Dinobots back to base. Ratchet and Wheeljack begin repairs on the Dinobots, while the other Autobots rebuild the airport.

Meanwhile, the Decepticons are flying through the air back to their base. All of a sudden, Ravage ejects from Soundwave, transforms and lands on the ground below. Megatron demands an explanation, but Soundwave says that Ravage initiated the ejection without a reason. Soon, however, the Decepticons fall from the sky, and Rumble begins attacking Megatron, though he doesn't know why and he can't stop himself. Megatron flicks him away and concludes that they are suffering from bad energon. The group heads off to get some new cubes from a powerplant to refuel themselves.

At the Autobot base, the Dinobots are repaired, and Prime, still rebuilding the airport, tries to send them to stop the Decepticons. Grimlock angrily refuses, saying he's tired of taking the Autobot leader's orders and saving the Autobots whenever they need help. The Dinobots leave the base, intending to fight whenever they want to. At the power plant, the Autobots arrive to stop the Decepticons, but both factions begin to suffer from debilitating malfunctions. After an indecisive battle, Megatron orders the Decepticons to retreat.
Back at the base, the Autobots are suffering power failures now, as well as other problems (Wheeljack can't move, Jazz's legs are stuck in alternate mode, and Powerglide is holding his own severed head!). Perceptor concludes that they are suffering from Cybertonium depletion. However, Cybertonium only exists on Cybertron. Fortunately, Shockwave is sending a shipment over the space bridge, but the Autobots are in no condition to retrieve it themselves. Sparkplug, Spike, and Carly decide to track down the Dinobots.

As the three look for the Dinobots, they find that they have been discovered by the Dinobots. Grimlock is less than pleased to have been followed by the humans, and decides to crush them. Sparkplug lays it on thick when he says they need the Dinobots' "brilliant help." Swoop, however, saves the humans from getting smushed because he wants to hear about the "brilliant" part. Sparkplug explains the situation, but Grimlock doesn't care. However, when Spike mentions Cybertonium, Grimlock realizes the Cybertron connection, and decides to help (despite Slag's refusal and Sludge's confusion). The Dinobots attack the Constructicons, who are retrieving the Cybertonium, but the Dinobots simply get into the space bridge and head for Cybertron. Shockwave attempts to stop them. Guess what happens.

At the Autobot base, Sparkplug contacts Grimlock, who refuses to return and help the "bossy Autobots". Carly resolves that she and Spike must head for Cybertron themselves. Prime attempts to stop them, but finally succumbs to the effects of Cybertonium depletion. Sparkplug stays to man Teletraan I to help the kids. Spike and Carly manage to drive past Devastator using Carly's car, but Shockwave is waiting for the two humans on the other side.
Notes
Animation or technical errors
* Despite the variety of engine sound effects, the experimental plane is just flying in a straight line in the first shot.
* Blaster's forehead is red (like the rest of his helmet) instead of white as Optimus gives the order to roll out.
* Mirage's transformation is somewhat "cheated", as he simply melds into car mode instead of turning around at the waist like he is supposed to.
* Starscream's face is white instead of medium gray as he enters the lab facility.
* The scientist that Starscream tosses aside gets up and runs away, despite having been thrown a good 15 or 20 feet to the floor.
* Blaster's arm phases through Mirage's box-of-turning-invisible. While not physically impossible, he appears to be standing far enough in front of Mirage that the box should be behind him.
* After grabbing Megatron's cannon, Mirage reappears without his customary energy sound effect.
*The merry-go-round at the fair features horses that are suspended from the roof, rather than attached to floor-to-ceiling posts like a real carousel.
* The outside of the airport, where Bumblebee discharges his passengers and transforms, is completely deserted. They seem to have wandered into the loading docks or something.
* Slag's face and head are gray instead of red as he says his "no like anything" line.
* The top of Starscream's cockpit cowling is yellow instead of gray as he scolds Megatron for retreating.
* Snarl appears to tear the entire hangar door apart, but after he moves past the "camera", we see that half the door is still intact.
* As Slag tears though the hangar door, by rights his hind end should be visible through the hole Snarl just made, but it only magically becomes visible as he walks through the hole he made.
* Blitzwing's head is purple instead of yellow just before he transforms to attack Bumblebee.
** And again after he falls out of the sky.
*** And again as Soundwave ejects Ravage at the power plant.
**** And again as the Decepticons try to retreat from the power plant. Was this an alternate color scheme or something?

* Megatron's audio appears to drop out for a second or two as he tosses Rumble aside; he says "Get... ...fool!" with timing that would be just right for the more explicable "Get off me, fool!"
*Thundercracker is miscolored as Starscream when Swoop attacks him.
* Spike, Carly and Sparkplug are inside the terminal when Megatron gets thrown into it. A second later, they're back on the flightline with the Dinobots.
* The sound crew missed the part where Hoist is towing the derelict airliner carrying the Dinobots; they applied what sounds like an idling jet engine noise over the scene.
* The building that Powerglide and Ironhide construct changes shape between shots, and doesn't appear to have any doors or windows. There's also a parked airplane practically on top of the foundation before they start laying bricks. Ironhide's method of brick-laying fails to put any mortar into the vertical brick joints. The bricks also go from regular bricks to concrete blocks between shots.
* Megatron's Decepticon symbol is missing after he bashes Rumble aside in the desert.
* Slag's head guards are white instead of red as he agrees with Grimlock's refusal of orders. (Should they be white? Yes, yes, no!)
* The energon cubes at the power plant are semi-glowing in a strange purple color, rather than the usual bright pink.
* Prime clips through the concrete fence at the power plant as the Autobots arrive to stop the Decepticons.
*Jazz is colored as Red Alert when the Autobots transform at the power station.
*Megatron's gun mode is entirely white when Starscream is about to shoot Optimus.

* Wheeljack is missing the little windshield line on the top/side of his chest as Prime answers Ironhide's question about what is happening to them. It's missing again as Sparkplug repairs him in the next scene.
* Red Alert has white tires on his shoulders in the first pan of the disabled Autobots at Autobot Headquarters.
* As Wheeljack says that Cybertonium is only found on Cybertron, his whole helmet is light gray instead of dark gray, rather than just his three "fins".
* Scrapper's vehicle mode bends like rubber as he backs away from the Dinobots.
* Scrapper has two eyes instead of his usual single visor as he turns to track Swoop.
* Long Haul's portion of Devastator is shown plopping into place... long after both he and Hook (who forms the part that comes after Long Haul) have already driven up and transformed.
*When the Dinobots first appear on Cybertron, Shockwave has both his hands. In the next scene, however, his left hand blaster is there. He was last seen with two hands back in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 1".
* Improbable viewpoints:
** Teletraan I kindly provides Sparkplug with a view of Grimlock inside Decepticon Headquarters on Cybertron!
* So... the sound guys have never seen a car before? They don't know what a car does? 'Cause they put in a flight sound effect as Carly's car vaults over Devastator's foot and into the space bridge ring.
* The animation of Shockwave reacting to and turning toward the space bridge elevator is recycled when Spike and Carly arrive. Not an explicit error by itself, but it creates a continuity disjoint with the next shot, as Shockwave abruptly goes from empty-handed to holding a blaster.
* There's nothing in the space bridge elevator when Shockwave blasts it.

Continuity errors
* The opening scene is bizarre. Soundwave is sitting in Ironhide's cargo compartment. Ironhide somehow failed to notice Soundwave climbing into him, and continues to fail to notice him sitting there. Blaster somehow fails to notice Soundwave sitting right in front of him. Of particular note, in "Heavy Metal War" Ironhide is apparently able to detect the Decepticons by himself, without relying on Teletraan I.
*Considering the ultra plane was in full view of the Autobots and Dr. Green the whole time, how did none of them see Starscream flying over the fighter and dropping a bomb on top of it?
* We never do find out where Sparkplug is coming home from or what he was doing there in his snazzy blue suit.
* Bumblebee and Spike apparently just wander onto the airport's flightline, unquestioned, to investigate the Decepticon hangar.
* Superhumans Spike, Carly, and Sparkplug:
**Neither Spike nor Carly and Sparkplug are harmed by Megatron flying through a huge plate glass window right in front of them. (As noted above, they shouldn't even be there.)
* On a related note, though Bumblebee and the three humans are standing right next to the Dinobots, none of them are harmed by the planes exploding, while the Dinobots get blown to kingdom come.
* The Autobots lament having to repair the Dinobots using only tools available to them on Earth, despite having easily built them on Earth with those same tools.
* For some reason, Blitzwing blasting Jazz in the side causes a huge crevasse to open up beneath Jazz.
* The space bridge must have been seriously fine-tuned since its first appearance. The Dinobots make the trip just fine, despite appearing to flail about randomly as they make the trip. Even an Earthen automobile makes it through (and its human passengers survive, which means the space bridge portal has a pressurized atmosphere.) Previously, an unpiloted test vehicle vanished into the ether because it lacked guidance.
* Shockwave blasts the elevator door as Spike and Carly arrive on Cybertron, creating a huge explosion. They are only saved by power of retcon, as the next episode decides that the immediate firing and huge explosion simply didn't happen.

Kid Rhino release
*On the Kid Rhino DVDs, the visuals drop out completely for a second or so, replaced by a black screen, after Blaster's fight with Ravage. This error is also on the Madman Region 4 DVD.

Continuity notes
*This episode throws some confusion on the origin of the newer second-season characters such as Perceptor, Blaster, Blitzwing, etc. Previously it could be assumed they had simply arrived from Cybertron or some other planet. But the fact that their Cybertonium deteriorates in exact sync with the earlier characters suggests that they were also aboard the Ark and went through the same four million year slumber as the 1984 characters. Why we didn't see any of them for the first year is therefore a bit of a mystery within the context of the stories.
* The Dinobots' discontent was previously hinted at in "Atlantis, Arise!" and "Day of the Machines". They seemed much happier in the later two-parter "Dinobot Island".
* Apparently the Dinobots just stand around in their own little cubby hole in the Ark, waiting patiently for someone to open the door and talk to them. Which is strangely placid of them.

* Gadgets and powers:
** To prepare the viewer for the forthcoming mechanical failures of the Autobots, several of them use their stock powers, such as Jazz's sound and light show and Mirage's invisibility.
** To inspect the vault door, Soundwave retracts his hand and brings forth a three-pronged wirey sensor thing. It's only slightly creepy.
** Carly switches off Bumblebee's equilibrium circuits by pressing a button inside his chest armor (which sure pops open easily. Bee had better hope the Decepticons don't find out about that feature.)
** Bumblebee uses a wrist communicator to radio Optimus. Though a common device for both sides, this one looks different than the more rectangular ones Bumblebee has used in the past—spheroid and with a little antenna on top.
** Inferno fires fire-retardant foam (or something like it) from a nozzle that emerges from a hatch on his cab (even though Inferno already sports several visible nozzles designed to serve the same purpose.)
** The deterioration of the Transformers' cybertonium leads to a series of mechanical failures:
*** Grapple apparently loses his fine motor control.
*** Megatron's audio circuits malfunction.
*** Soundwave spontaneously ejects Ravage.
*** The Decepticons lose their flight abilities.
*** Rumble can't stop himself from attacking Megatron.
*** Jazz can't transform, and later winds up half-car, half-robot.
*** Ironhide's hand won't retract to fire his liquid nitrogen.
*** Mirage only becomes black and white instead of invisible.
*** Ravage spontaneously returns to cassette mode in mid-battle.
*** Jazz's sound and light show fails to activate.
*** Blitzwing can't stop his own forward motion in tank mode.
*** Powerglide's head... falls off??
*The Constructicons appear to be functioning perfectly well in this episode. What this says about their origin controversy is unknown.
* We get treated to the one-time appearance of a uniquely designed Transformer on Cybertron. He's medium brown and appears to have Snarl's dinosaur tail halves on his back; he transforms to a purple flying saucer-like thing.

*In the final scene, Shockwave fires a gun that looks exactly like his own alternate mode. (Presumably, the animators mistook his weapon mode for a hand-held weapon.) He also is shown with two hands in one shot, just like his very first appearance. Can he retract one and replace it with his familiar gun arm? Or is it just an animation screwup? You be the judge!
*This episode establishes that the Dinobots are better-armored in their beast modes.
* < < What makes Starscream the leader? Megatron's blown his vocal components! > >
* EJK, the facility where all the information on the Ultraplane is stored, is named for episode writer Earl J. Kress.
* This episode contains enough Star Wars sound effects to make you think you're watching events in a galaxy far, far away:
** The opening shots of the experimental jet are soundtracked with diving X-Wings and the TIE Fighter engine roar.
** After exiting Ironhide's cargo compartment, Soundwave launches with the Millennium Falcon engine burst.
** Some Falcon ambient engine noise (flying over the surface of Yavin IV) is heard as Starscream flies toward the ultra plane.
** The ultra plane explosion is soundtracked with the Death Star firing sequence noise.
** Falcon engine burst as Megatron retreats from the lab.
** Death Star firing/Alderaan exploding again, as Thundercracker and Thrust take off to attack the Dinobots, followed by more X-Wings diving.
** Falcon engine burst again as the Transformer on Cybertron that Mirage watches on a monitor takes off.
** Falcon engine roar as Swoop dives to snatch Carly's car out from under Grimlock's foot.

Trivia
* The hangar that the Decepticons are hiding in is labeled "hangar" in huge white letters. This is so you know that it is, indeed, a hangar and not a well hidden Decepticon base.
* Mirage totally goes toe-to-toe with Megatron and manages to hold his own for a bit. Impressive!
* Slag sounds strangely upbeat when he says "Me Slag no like anything."
* When the Dinobots leave the Autobot base, Sludge and Snarl appear much shorter than the others. If the Dinobots were at all consistent with the dinosaurs they are based on, Sludge should be much larger than the others (foreshortening perhaps?).
* A faint female voice can be heard moaning as Blaster and Soundwave rock the van...
Sideswipe is true to his function of Warrior. Though proficient with guns, he prefers melee combat to ranged weapons, and will employ any maneuver it takes to get close enough to the enemy to use his arm-mounted Cybertanium swords. His agile, wheel-legged form more than allows for this. His tactics are merciless and he's utterly unapologetic about this—war, after all, is messy.

Oh, and he's also not vain at all: those alt modes of his are chosen for speed only. It's a total coincidence that the fastest one just happens to be a sleek, sexy, concept model that's better than your car, honest!
When Sideswipe joined the Autobots he trained under the veteran warrior Ironhide, learning the arts of war. After his training was complete, he went on to become the protector of a settlement of displaced Autobots. This settlement was found by the pitiless Demolishor, who slaughtered them nearly to a bot. Sideswipe was ashamed, not only over having failed to protect his charges, but also because he had lived to tell the tale. Tales of the Fallen issue 2

After Optimus Prime's Autobots left Mission City, they left a homing beacon in a junk yard near the metropolis to attract any Autobots who might have heard Prime's rallying call to Earth. Alliance issue 3 Sideswipe was among those few that answered the beacon then he arrived on the planet with Topspin, Leadfoot, Roadbuster, Skids, Mudflap, Jolt, Arcee, Chromia and Elita-One on the Wreckers ship Xantium. The ship and the Wreckers stayed behind in NASA, Dark of the Moon (film)Dark of the Moon issue 3 and had hidden themselves in the junk yard. Once discovered, they were brought to Diego Garcia to train with the other Autobots and Major Lennox's soldiers in defense of their new home. Alliance issue 4 However, Sideswipe proved a loose cannon as he continued his vendetta against Demolishor when the Decepticon turned up in Montevideo, Uruguay. Showing little regard for humans in pursuing his quarry, Sideswipe's actions prompted Ironhide to arrive on the scene to rein him in. The younger Autobot was openly insubordinate towards Ironhide, warning him not to get in the way. Ultimately all the old veteran could do was to serve as damage control during Sideswipe's singleminded pursuit. Ultimately more reinforcements from NEST arrived, and Demolishor fled the scene. In the aftermath, Sideswipe saw the fear and mistrust the humans regarded him with because of his violent actions. Understanding this, he was forced to admit that Ironhide's admonishment of him was correct. Tales of the Fallen issue 2

Unlike most Autobots, Sideswipe—part of a younger generation built during wartime—was made to fight. He was born during the war and with full knowledge of the Cybertronian battlefield, designed solely for killing. He's master of the quick-change transformation! Transformers Comic issue 2.2

Sideswipe served as a combat instructor at NEST's Scottish base, and had to put Skids and Mudflap back through basic training—something he was fed up of. As far as he was concerned, they should've been put on charge for causing Grindor to escape and he should have better things to do. He dealt with this by putting the twins through simulated combat after simulated combat, finally cracking it up to maximum setting, before someone knocked him out.

When he came to, the twins were babbling about how a mysterious and long-vanished Decepticon working for another mysterious Decepticon had done it and tried to kill them! Sideswipe was having none of it, viewing this as implausible and believing the twins knocked him out in revenge for training and were covering themselves. Between this and Grindor, he was becoming suspicious of them... Transformers Comic issue 2.4

Following the training, poor Sideswipe took them to Diego Garcia and continued to be pestered by them for a meeting with Prime. Not trusting them and ignoring their babble about some "dude", he tried to discourage them, only for the two to sneak off behind his back. Sighing, he went in pursuit... and saw them distract Prime before a Decepticon attacked, Skids tripped over Prime before he could take charge, and Mudflap handed a weapon to an escaping prisoner! When Optimus remarked that someone must've compromised security, Sideswipe fingered the twins: their actions clearly showed they were turncoats! Transformers Comic issue 2.5

Sideswipe would be part of the team tracking down the twins Transformers Comic issue 2.5, and would later be surprised when they were tracked down to North Carolina... and were fighting two Decepticons? Why, if he didn't know better, he'd think they were fighting the two 'cons they'd helped! Transformers Comic issue 2.7

After the Autobots tracked the twins to the Decepticon's base, it became clear they weren't traitors after all and had been framed. Did Sideswipe apologise? Hell no, he instead had a scary amount of fun slaughtering drones and had to be told off by Ironhide for excessive bloodlust. Transformers Comic issue 2.8

Later, after the twins turned out to have told the truth about this "Fallen" guy, Sideswipe was with Ironhide cleaning up the remaining Decepticons on Earth, (rather worryingly) including Hoist!. Transformers Comic issue 2.11

Sideswipe was one of the Autobots sent to Shanghai when Decepticon energy signatures were detected, but he was initially held in reserve. As Sideways managed to flee from Arcee and the Twins in vehicle mode, Major Lennox ordered Sideswipe deployed. Sideswipe immediately sped in and quickly changed to robot mode. Catching up with Sideways by dexterously skating on his wheel-feet, Sideswipe somersaulted over the Decepticon, threw his right blade in the Decepticon's hood, and then dragged the blade in the opposite direction, tearing Sideways apart. Sideswipe took a moment to reflect on the success of his kill.

Afterwards, he returned with the other Autobots to NEST's base in Diego Garcia, where he witnessed Director Theodore Galloway air the President's concerns over the recent spate of Decepticon activity, and how the Autobots remaining on Earth might be the cause of it.

After the AllSpark shard was stolen by Ravage from NEST's secured bunker and Decepticons were detected heading towards Sam Witwicky at Princeton University, Sideswipe and the other Autobots were deployed to intercept, but arrived too late: Optimus Prime had died protecting the human boy from the resurrected Megatron, Starscream and Grindor.

The Autobots and NEST arrived at a United States air base to discover that they were no longer welcome, following renewed Decepticon aggression after Prime's death, and that they were ordered to return to Diego Garcia. The emotionally overwhelmed Autobots nearly came to blows with their former allies but finally agreed to stand down and remain on Earth. When Major Lennox learned Witwicky had come up with a way to possibly resurrect Optimus Prime, NEST travelled to Egypt instead. Sideswipe, who had been covered in a cargo net while being transported in vehicle mode, relished the chance to cut through his bonds when deployed from the air. He fought off many Decepticons during Operation: Firestorm, and bore witness to Sam resurrecting Optimus Prime with the Matrix of Leadership, and the death of The Fallen. Revenge of the Fallen (film)
Before the war, Sideswipe was a major competitor in the gladiatorial games. Tracking Megatron to a disused factory with Optimus, Sideswipe complained about the dust until Optimus told him to be quiet. Optimus's scans turned up nothing, but Megatron soon revealed himself, batting Sideswipe aside. Later, Sideswipe was pursuing Barricade and Frenzy in Scramble City, and took a turn to let the Decepticons think they had lost him, in truth following them to the facility they were heading for. After crumpling Frenzy into a ball and batting him back at Barricade, Sideswipe engaged the larger Decepticon, but was stopped with fire suppression equipment that froze him to the databanks. As the Decepticons were able to escape, Sideswipe broke free and learned that they had stolen NEST's defense deactivation codes. Cyber Missions 6

Soon after, he was able to discover a wounded Ratchet back in Mission City and took him back to Diego Garcia to be repaired. While Ratchet was getting fixed up, Sideswipe traded in his shattered blades for new blasters. While they did that, Lockdown arrived and threatened Sideswipe during target practice. Apparently, he had enough- he was able to shoot the EMP blaster off of Lockdown's wrist and back to Ratchet, who was fully operational. Lockdown, now without a blaster weapon, pushed Sideswipe aside and fled, much to Sideswipe's dismay, but Ratchet assured him that he was headed straight for the medical bay. There, he saw an out-cold Lockdown laying on an operating table, all the while stating he couldn't look. Cyber Missions 7

Sideswipe and Ratchet were transporting some energon to a secure location when they were attacked by Starscream and Mindwipe. Mindwipe assaulted them with his hypnotic powers, but at Ratchet's suggestion, Sideswipe used his satellite radio to play some loud music, breaking Mindwipe's concentration. The Autobot turned on Starscream, yelling at Ratchet to secure the energon, but as Ratchet pointed out, Starscream was a bit more formidable than Sideswipe had counted on. As Starscream was on the verge of dismantling Sideswipe, Ratchet threw the energon trailer from the nearest cliff, and Starscream broke off his attack. In the aftermath, Ratchet and Sideswipe went to find somewhere safe to hide from the enraged Decepticon. Cyber Missions 10

Optimus later requested backup to help fight Megatron and Starscream in the Arctic Circle. Sideswipe, Ratchet, Ironhide, and Bumblebee arrived to help their leader, and all four fought Starscream. The Decepticon was swiftly defeated by the Autobots, but Optimus allowed Megatron and Starscream to flee.
Cyber Missions 12

Optimus later laid a trap for a final confrontation against Megatron, and had a hologram of the imprisoned Soundwave as bait. Megatron tried to retrieve his soldier, but the image shifted to a hologram of Sideswipe. Sideswipe calmly taunted the Decepticon leader as he swiped at the illusion, but Sideswipe did not take part in the ensuing battle.
When Alice stole an RV and went on a rampage, Sideswipe was part of the NEST team sent to stop her. She attempted to ram the NEST roadblock, but Sideswipe decided to ram her first, and impaled her through the front windscreen. He was later seen carrying the RV over his head. He observed Ratchet examining Alice's corpse, and wondered why any Cybertronian would stoop to taking on the appearance of a lesser life form. Nefarious issue 1 He was sent with Ironhide to stop a Decepticon trio. Ironhide warned him not to get cocky, but Sideswipe merely responded that he really was that good, before chopping Brakedown in half. He was ready to finish off the apparently-surrendering Dirt Boss as well, but the surrender was just a ruse to allow Soundwave time to attack, and Sideswipe was caught in the explosion. He survived to see Optimus Prime swoop in and capture Soundwave. Nefarious issue 2
Soundwave traced the Initiative to Oregon, and the Autobots went there to launch an attack. Ratchet suggested Sideswipe stay behind him to avoid damage, but Sideswipe scoffed at the very idea. However the Autobots found themselves facing brainwashed Transformers, and Sideswipe even recognized one as Armorhide. Nefarious issue 5 Optimus sent Sideswipe, Skids and Mudflap to help Bumblebee's team. When Decepticon activity was detected in Tokyo, Sideswipe headed there with Optimus, Ironhide and Ratchet. He was the first to spot Barricade and wrestled with the Decepticon until Optimus intervened. The arrival of Grindor sent Sideswipe scrambling for cover, but he and Ratchet subsequently covered Optimus, as their leader took Grindor down. Sam in Danger

With little Decepticon activity on Earth since the defeat of The Fallen, the Autobots now assisted their allies in dealing with human problems around the globe. Sideswipe accompanied Bumblebee, Dino, and Que on a mission to an illegal nuclear power plant in the Middle East. Upon returning to base, he was called in for a weapons inspection and watched as Optimus explained the importance of going to the long-lost Autobot ship, the Ark on Earth's moon. Later, after the former Autobot leader Sentinel Prime was retrieved from the moon and reactivated, Sideswipe observed his explanation of how his pillars were key to controlling the Space Bridge, a teleportation device Sentinel had designed that was crucial to the Autobot war effort.

Sideswipe and Dino joined Bumblebee, Sam Witwicky, Seymour Simmons and Dutch in following up on a lead to explain why humans were being killed by Decepticons. After the humans determined that the Decepticons were targeting Sentinel for his ability to control the Space Bridge, Sideswipe helped to escort the ancient Autobot back to base. Along the way Sideswipe helped fend off the Dreads coming to capture Sentinel on a highway in Washington, D.C., using his Stealth Force mode to help in bringing down Hatchet. Nearing the NEST facility, Sideswipe and Ironhide subsequently confronted the remaining Dreads, Crankcase and Crowbar, forcing the Decepticons to drop their weapons after a "Mexican standoff". However, the two Decepticons attacked the Autobots with hidden spear bombs, injuring Ironhide in the process. Sideswipe managed to avoid damage by cutting the spear bomb thrown at him in half with a back flip, using the movement to kick one of his blaster to Ironhide. The veteran Autobot then used the gun to kill Crowbar before spearing Crankcase with the bomb in the face.

Sideswipe and the other Autobots were forced to leave Earth when the turncoat Sentinel Prime coerced the human governments to exile their protectors. As it was leaving Earth's atmosphere, the Autobot's ship, the Xantium, was destroyed by Starscream, and Sideswipe was presumably killed along with his fellow Autobots. However, knowing that Sentinel and the Decepticons wouldn't honor their promise that humanity would not be harmed, the Autobots hid themselves into the boosters of their ship, and safely splashed down to Earth before the ship was destroyed. Sideswipe and the Autobots rejoined their human allies from NEST and Sam Witwicky on the outskirts of Decepticon-controlled Chicago, now the center stage for Sentinel Prime and Megatron's plan to bring Cybertron to Earth.

Sideswipe helped plan the Autobots' assault against the Decepticons, ordering Ratchet to cover high and for Que to roll out already. Soon, five Autobots were captured by Decepticons commanded by Soundwave and Barricade. As Sideswipe struggled against his captors, the human traitor Dylan Gould convinced Soundwave to execute the Autobots, starting with Que. Sideswipe and the others would have suffered the same fate as the Autobot scientist if not for the timely intervention of Wheelie and Brains, whose commandeered Decepticon mothership rained down fighters on Soundwave's forces, allowing the Autobots to turn the tables and destroy their captors. Freed, Sideswipe led his comrades as they took the fight to the Decepticons and helped Optimus Prime against the traitorous Sentinel Prime. Eventually, the control pillar activating the space bridge was destroyed and, in the ensuing chaos, the Decepticon forces in the sky were dragged into the abyss created by Cybertron's destruction. Now, with Earth truly their home, Sideswipe stood triumphantly with his battle-worn comrades at the battle's end. Dark of the Moon (film)
:Sideswipe transforms into a silver Corvette Stingray concept car. In this mode, he sits so low that it's difficult to roll him without scraping his undercarriage, unless you perform some careful shaping after transforming him. Sideswipe's Mech Alive gimmick is in his knees—bending his legs causes the blue armor plates on his knees to extend. He does have wheels in his feet like his character model, but the toy's feet have been designed in such a way that it can stand alone. Rounding out his robot-mode awesomeness, his hips have an "invisible joint" and moving pistons, while his "blades" are geared to spin out in unison. He is totally awesome.

:Sideswipe's instructions aren't clear as to how his torso is supposed to connect with his chest in robot mode. The torso piece has a square peg on top of it and there is a corresponding square hole between the two screws holding the front of his chest together. Getting his torso section in front of his arm struts can be a somewhat snug fit.
*Sideswipe / Tech. Sergeant Epps (Human Alliance, 2009)
**Japanese ID number: RA-22
**Accessories: Missile

:Like all Human Alliance figures, Sideswipe is designed to allow his accompanying human figure, in this case Robert Epps, to ride inside.

:While in many ways simply a larger version of the Deluxe toy, it has several changes. The wheeled feet may now fold out into a stand system, allowing Sideswipe to stand without having to balance on the wheels, or be left as is to retain a more rounded look, and his blades are now rubberized to prevent injury and damage, as the blades lay flat underneath in vehicle mode. The sword-hands can also be slotted into a gear system connected to the front wheels, which causes them to spin as the wheels are turned. The passenger's seat may either be used as a seat for Epps, or turned into a missile launcher slung over Sideswipe's left shoulder.

:Like the Deluxe figure, the HA Sideswipe is something of a shellformer and suffers from an excessive amount of kibble, as nearly the entire top of the vehicle mode is folded up into a backpack, with only the rear bumper being incorporated as Sideswipe's chest. Partly as the reason, it is also quite hard for him to be able to stand up, as his thigh joints are tight and the rubber tubing on his thighs can get quite tense during posing, constantly wanting to reset his torso to tilt back up and as well as wanting his legs to be straight, thus overbalancing him and making him fall on his backpack.

:A great deal goes unmentioned in the instructions: in addition to the seats behind Sideswipe's shoulders, there are pegs on both forearms that a Human Alliance human figure can stand on or have plugged into their back, but neither are accomplished very well; the pegs also interfere with free rolling in vehicle mode, scraping on the ground. There is a fold-out handle under the swiveling rear window section, which seems to serve no purpose; it's possible to fold this section over Sideswipe's head (and, by extension, any human figure sitting behind his right shoulder), but the handle is only reached if the human figure has its left arm raised straight up and the seat is in just the right position. There are also small tabs that fold out of Sideswipe's waist to make him more movie-accurate. The small turret on his right shoulder can be slid upwards slightly, allowing it to clear the shoulder much better. Sideswipe also has an extra hinge near either thigh swivel that is completely hindered by the rubber tubing on his legs. Finally, Sideswipe has a battle mask; or rather, his normal head is his battle mask. A thin sliver in the middle of his face flips back to reveal his "real" face. It looks... odd. It's probably best to leave the thing down and never speak of this feature.
His main gimmick is his spring-loaded arm-blades which automatically swing down when pulled upward.
:Robot Replicas Sideswipe is a non- transforming, but highly detailed and articulated interpretation of his robot mode from the movie. He features highly posable legs, arms, feet, head, waist, neck and shoulders, making him both an awesome kid's toy and display piece.
:Funnily enough, despite the Robot Replica promise of total movie-accuracy, his arm-blades are considerably shortened and are a weird metallic blue colour, rather than the silver/gray you might expect.
**Accessories: Two flare launchers

:This new sculpt of Sideswipe is designed for greater robot mode accuracy compared to his original Deluxe class mold, and replaces his swords with twin hand-held flare launcher pistols (which were briefly used during the Egypt battle in Revenge of the Fallen). Additionally, the guns can be attached to flip-up panels in vehicle mode and can swivel back to store in vehicle mode. Sideswipe has toe and heel spurs so that he can balance on a flat surface without falling over, a problem that the previous Deluxe Sideswipe suffered. Both the black and silver molded "springs" on his lower legs are compatible with any weaponry using 3mm clips.

:Hasbro added a red deco design to the front of the car and red windows in an effort to differentiate him from the previous Sideswipe molds. Stock photos on the back package and instructions show the front deco extending to the side panels, giving it a flame appearance. The Japanese TakaraTomy release of Sidearm Sideswipe drops the less accurate red vehicle mode decos in favour of keeping the silver paint on his wheels, which Hasbro dropped due to budgetary reasons. This release also changed the windows from red to a dark purple.

:His head's light-piping is sculpted out of the same red plastic as his windows, but his eyes are painted blue. Oddly, Hasbro's stock photos show him with only one eye painted.

:Sidearm Sideswipe was also on the receiving end of a late retool, closing off the tops of the hip balljoint sockets, severely limiting his outward leg motion. There is a perfect outline where the change was made which one can use as a cutting guide if so inclined. This change was likely made to reduce stress on the rubber tubing connected to his thighs.
**Accessories: MechTech Blaster/Cybertanium Sword

:Part of the second wave of Dark of the Moon MechTech Deluxe Class toys, this version of Sideswipe is an all new tooling, with a different transformation scheme compared to the previous Deluxe versions of the character. Sideswipe changes into a Corvette Stingray concept convertible in a light grey/beige color scheme and open top. The interior is highly detailed, with seats, dashboard and steering wheel all molded into the compartment, though it's missing its floorboards. The box art and the instructions can't seem to agree which way the tail lights (which are his toe/heel spurs) are supposed to point in robot mode - the stock photo used on the card and main instruction image show them pointing forward, while the instructions themselves indicate they should point backward, implying it is probably the correct way. His arm blades are now a single piece, rather than the two piece blades from previous molds.

:Underneath the front hood (which ends up on his back) is some sculpted, unpainted faux-kibble in the form of four circles in a row, which are meant to represent the four exhaust pipes on the back of the vehicle, which usually end up on his back in robot mode. The actual pipes still end up on his back. They're just near his waist.

:Sideswipe's MechTech weapon, a large blaster, can convert to a runed Cybertanium sword with the press of a button. The weapon can be stored in any of the three MechTech ports in either mode, all of which include the spring-loaded filler piece to hide them when not in use. While the box art shows the blade of the flip-out sword painted blue with white Cybertronix runes, the final version opts for bare gunmetal plastic instead.

:The figure suffers from a small design flaw in that the front hood of the car is attached by such tiny pegs that it pops off quite easily.

As such, nearly all of his vehicle mode parts (and thus, most of his robot mode) are cast in translucent clear plastic, with the rear of his vehicle mode being left unpainted, the middle having painted scan lines, and the front having a heavy amount of paint operations in order to cover the clear plastic.
He has rotational articulation at both shoulders, but his head is molded into his torso. In order to stand up, the figurine must rest its weight on one of his arms.

: Part of the first wave of Speed Stars Mini-Vehicle versus packs, this Sideswipe is a more widely-released version of the RPMs Battle Series 2 pack, coming with Wreckloose. And like Wreckloose, this version has quite a few changes from the barely-released RPMs version. The shiny silver overspray is gone, leaving a more matte silver plastic. The twin red stripes have been turned into a single large stripe. And the relief of his robot mode, now cast in red plastic instead of brown, is now done entirely in a single shade of silver, plus the raised "SIDESWIPE" at his "feet" is completely unpainted.
: The Speed Stars version of "Metal Heroes" Sideswipe is mostly the same, but has unpainted headlights, tail-lights, and rear bumper, and his robot mode has less painted details. He lacks the sculpted insignia on his underside.
* On June 11, 2008, blurry camera phone photos from the set of Revenge of the Fallen offered the first look at Sideswipe's vehicle mode, which was believed to be a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 at that time. Ten days later, leaked photos offered a better look at the car being painted by Saleen, which was now revealed to be a never-seen-before Corvette model. On August 7, 2008, Jalopnik claimed having received information that the car was a so-called "Corvette Centennial Concept". General Motors finally admitted the car's existence at the Chicago Auto Show in February of 2009, now confirming that it was, in fact, a new Corvette Stingray concept.

* Rumored names for Sideswipe in the early days of the movie shooting were "Hot Rod" (which might have been a case of fans simply suggesting a random name and other fans subsequently treating it as gospel) and "Stinger". The latter originated with a (real) call sheet leaked in June 2008, which suggests that "Stinger" was an actual working name.
*An unreleased red and white redeco of the Robot Powered Machines Sideswipe mold was displayed at Toy Fair 2010, amongst a mix of cancelled RPM and planned Speed Stars vehicles. Nobody knows what its deal is, and with the wholesale cancelling of the segment, probably never will.

* According to Ironhide in Titan Magazine's "Law and Disorder" letters section, Sideswipe has a relative named Sunstreaker.

* For Dark of the Moon, Sideswipe's alternate mode as a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray concept car was changed from the hardtop version as seen in Revenge of the Fallen into a convertible. He does still sport a hardtop when he changes into his Stealth Force mode, however.

* Sideswipe and Barricade are the only characters in the movie series to have been recast between films.
