Nav-dotm-game
Transformers: Dark of the Moon: Autobots and Transformers: Dark of the Moon: Decepticons were released on June 14, 2011 for the Nintendo DS. Both games were developed by Behaviour Interactive who had previously released Transformers Animated: The Game, and published by Activision. Like the console version, they are prequels to the Dark of the Moon film. They are a third-person, over-the-shoulder shooters, and feature both a campaign and multi-player mode.

Gameplay
For each mission, there is set character, although once the game has been completed you can go back and replay missions with any playable character. The characters have a primary fire, which is more or less a machine gun with unlimited ammo, and secondary fire in the form of rockets, for which have a limited amount of ammo. More rockets can be obtained by defeating certain foes, which are so numerous you will practically never run out anyway. The character's health is divided between energy, which can be replenished by picking up energon cubes dropped by defeated opponents, and "shield", which slowly regenerates over time. While in vehicle mode, Transformers can go into Stealth Force mode, making available machine guns, although given you have to stop to shoot at things, why not just transform?

Additional abilities include hacking—pressing the radar icon and aiming at a satellite dish or turret reveals a randomly flashing faction insignia. Pressing the insignia when it matches your faction hacks the target. Hacked turrets will fire on your enemies, which makes them semi-useful when the game doesn't immediate block you off from them afterwards with a force field. Pressing the A button near certain objects will allow you to pick them up (if the game's feeling charitable) and throw them at enemies. Characters also have special abilities allowing them to reach hidden areas—for instance Mirage can run along walls, while Soundwave can run on overhead wires.

Upgrades are faction-wide and require collecting "upgrade slots" which appear as small spinning objects, and gaining XP. Between levels, a number of upgrades can be bought from the upgrades screen by spending an upgrade slot and 250XP, giving the player more health, shield, or boosting the primary and secondary fire.

Synopsis
Autobot campaign
Chapter 1: Urban Devastation<br />
*Playable character: Bumblebee<br />
Optimus Prime, Ratchet and Bumblebee meet downtown, where they discuss the recent attacks. Believing them to be the work of the Decepticons, Optimus sends Bumblebee to investigate, and the small Autobot quickly discovers that the city is indeed crawling with Decepticons.

Chapter 2: Heavy Industry<br />
*Playable character: Ironhide<br />
Optimus contacts Ironhide with more bad news. The Decepticons are attacking on two fronts: Mixmaster is trying to bring the Constructicons back online, while Starscream is attacking a nearby industrial park. Ironhide goes to the Industrial Park to investigate, and is forced to protect a number of buildings from Decepticon attack.

Chapter 3: The Best Defense...<br />
*Playable character: Optimus Prime<br />
Optimus finds Ratchet on the way to the Stadium to check out a disturbance. Optimus opts to go instead, as Ratchet's services are better utilized back at base, but Ratchet warns him before he leaves that they've intercepted a Decepticon transmission about something called Shockwave. Optimus goes to investigate the Stadium and briefly tangles with Soundwave.

Chapter 4: Strong Foundations<br />
*Playable character: Mirage<br />
Mirage finds Ratchet in a worried state as the Decepticons are up to something at a NEST construction site. Promising to investigate, Mirage finds Lockdown messing up the place, and is force to chase him down.

Chapter 5: Burning Air<br />
*Playable character: Optimus Prime<br />
Ratchet and Wheeljack contact Optimus to warn him that Decepticons are attacking all over NEST's Pacific island base. Wheeljack additionally warns him that Crowbar is a dangerous foe. Optimus drives all over the island bashing Decepticons and protecting the buildings, but fails to encounter Crowbar.

Chapter 6: Into the Fire<br />
*Playable character: Mirage<br />
After Lockdown gets into the NEST base and starts targeting the satellite dishes in an attempt to shut down Autobot communications, Rachet sends Mirage to scour the base and reactivate the dishes.

Chapter 7: Dangerous Experiments<br />
*Playable character: Ironhide<br />
Mirage reports to Ironhide that he's chasing Lockdown within the base. As Ironhide goes to join the hunt, Optimus Prime contacts everyone with the extremely urgent message not to engage Soundwave. Ironhide proceeds to chase Lockdown around the base and finally catches up with him.

Chapter 8: Volcano Overdrive<br />
*Playable character: Bumblebee<br />
As Bumblebee stands ready, Ratchet tells him that Soundwave and Crowbar are in the area. Bumblebee needs to track them down, however, and this is the important part, he has to let Soundwave escape. It's part of Optimus's plan. Bumblebee sets out and quickly finds and attacks Crowbar, however he suddenly runs into Starscream! After pursuing Starscream around the base, Bumblebee eventually manages to chase him off.

Chapter 9: Hunters and Prey<br />
*Playable character: Mirage<br />
Starscream, as it turns out, has stolen a piece of Mechtech, which luckily has a built-in tracking system. The Autobots have traced him to Siberia, and Mirage goes in to stealthily scope the place out by shooting Decepticons.

Chapter 10: Bitter Winds<br />
*Playable character: Ironhide<br />
At the Decepticon base, Ratchet briefs Ironhide on the situation—there are radar stations built all around it which must be taken out. Also Ratchet's decoded a transmission indicating that Shockwave is a deadly Decepticon assassin! Ironhide moves through the valley, hacking the Decepticon computers to clear a way for the Autobots.

Chapter 11: Heart of Ice<br />
*Playable character: Bumblebee<br />
Ironhide, Bumblebee and Ratchet meet up inside the Decepticon base. Ratchet sends Bumblebee to scout ahead, cautioning him that Megatron may be around. Luckily Bumblebee just finds a whole bunch of Decepticons to shoot.

Chapter 12: Cold Machinery<br />
*Playable character: Ironhide<br />
Optimus arrives, and Ironhide tells him that the Decepticons are completely cut off. Megatron and possible Shockwave are there. Optimus decides he must go in alone, and tells the others to follow him when he gives the signal. A short time after Optimus goes in, the Autobots receive a weak transmission from him to say that Megatron and Shockwave have escaped, so Ironhide goes after them. He manages to track Megatron, fighting furiously with the Decepticon leader, but Megatron manages to get away. Optimus announces that they won this battle at least, and will be ready for the next one. Elsewhere Megatron calls a strategic retreat, as he's succeeded in getting what he came for—Shockwave!

Decepticon campaign
Chapter 1: Demolition<br />
*Playable character: Soundwave<br />
Starscream relays news to Soundwave that Megatron has ordered a two-pronged assault. While Mixmaster is in charge of one, Starscream is in charge of an attack on a NEST facility, and he wants Soundwave to provide a diversion. Soundwave is skeptical that these are Megatron's orders, but decides to check up on it later and goes and wreaks havoc in a nearby industrial park as a diversion.

Chapter 2: Desperation Play<br />
*Playable character: Crowbar<br />
Starscream finds Crowbar equally back-chatty when he tells Crowbar to create another diversion near the Stadium to keep the Autobots distracted from the NEST facility. Crowbar proceeds to make as much of a distraction as he can downtown.

Chapter 3: Shipping Out<br />
*Playable character: Lockdown<br />
Meanwhile, Starscream sends Lockdown into the NEST facility to look for any information the Autobots have gathered on Shockwave or Operation: Pillar. Lockdown successfully infiltrates the base, though he spends most of his time chasing Optimus Prime around.

Chapter 4: Deconstruction Site<br />
*Playable character: Lockdown<br />
The stolen data secure, Lockdown escapes the NEST base and reports back to Starscream. Starscream notes that the Autobots have taken over an abandoned Sector 7 base in the Pacific, and dispatches Lockdown there. Lockdown immediately encounters Mirage and defeats the Autobot soundly.

Chapter 5: Hostile Territory<br />
*Playable character: Crowbar<br />
Crowbar has also arrived at the island, and Starscream warns him that Optimus is somewhere there. Crowbar wanders around knocking down buildings, but the Autobot leader fails to show.

Chapter 6: Breaking and Entering<br />
*Playable character: Lockdown<br />
As part of yet another diversion, Starscream tells Lockdown to go attack communication arrays in the NEST base. Lockdown wonders aloud if it's part of their plan to bring Shockwave back online, and Starscream tells him to mind his own business. Lockdown shrugs and goes and shoots some more Autobots.

Chapter 7: Grand Larceny<br />
*Playable character: Soundwave<br />
Soundwave also infiltrates the base, on a stealth mission to retrieve Mechtech data which is not helped at all by Starscream's constant chattering over the comm. After fighting his way stealthily into the base by shooting lots of Autobots with his rocket launcher, Soundwave retrieves the data he's after and fights his way towards the exit.

Chapter 8: Freedom Run<br />
*Playable character: Crowbar<br />
Seeking to escape the NEST base, Soundwave instructs Crowbar to run interference. To Crowbar's delight, this means he gets to beat the snot out of Bumblebee while Soundwave gets away.

Chapter 9: Siege Engines<br />
*Playable character: Crowbar<br />
Some time later, in Siberia, Crowbar tells one of his fellow Decepticons that he doesn't think the Autobots will find them way out there, but to be vigilant in case they do. As the Autobots shortly do turn up, and Crowbar doesn't want to bug Megatron, he runs around shooting them all.

Chapter 10: Lair of the Dragon<br />
*Playable character: Soundwave<br />
Megatron contacts Soundwave with new orders. The Autobots have set up sensor-jamming radar emplacements which are blocking the ability of Megatron and his men from seeing their immediate surroundings. Soundwave sets out and deactivates the radar emplacements while shooting more Autobots.

Chapter 11: Deep Freeze<br />
*Playable character: Megatron<br />
As the Autobots overrun the Decepticon base, Megatron runs to find Shockwave. Starscream contacts him to see if he's all right or if Starscream can take over yet. Starscream also expresses concern that Shockwave might turn against them, but Megatron says he has no choice but to activate the assassin. With Starscream's concerns duly dismissed, Megatron rampages through the base, destroying Autobot invaders.

Chapter 12: Desolate Decisions<br />
*Playable character: Megatron<br />
It's not long before he gets a new signal, this time from Ironhide who has hacked into the Decepticon frequency. Ironhide announces he's going to stop Megatron and proceeds to lead Megatron on a merry chase around the Autobot-infested base until Megatron can defeat him. The Autobots gather outside and Optimus announces that they won this battle at least, and will be ready for the next one. Elsewhere Megatron calls a strategic retreat, as he's succeeded in getting what he came for—Shockwave!
Synopsis
Autobot campaign
The Autobot campaign begins with NEST Pilot Sgt. Epps reporting Decepticons in Shanghai, China. Upon the arrival of the Autobots, Major William Lennox tells them there are Decepticons in the perimeter and must not escape. Ironhide is sent to fight them. Ironhide then battles and defeats Sideways. When Optimus Prime gets word that Ironhide is missing, Ratchet heads out to find him and get him to safety. After locating Ironhide, his power is recharged and another Decepticon battle ensues. After annihilating Decepticon troops, Optimus battles Demolishor. Upon his defeat and before Optimus deactivates him, Demolishor states "The Fallen shall rise again."

The Autobots then head to Burbank, California where a previously unknown fragment of the AllSpark has surfaced, now in possession of Mikaela Banes. Bumblebee is sent to protect Mikaela when the Decepticons detect the fragment also. The Autobots learn that a second AllSpark fragment held by the Americans has been stolen. Soundwave learns of Megatron's location, and transmits it to the Decepticons. Breakaway is sent to defend a carrier fleet guarding Megatron's corpse in the Laurentian Abyss from the Decepticons. Despite his efforts, Megatron is reactivated.

On the East Coast, Sam Witwicky is kidnapped by the Decepticon troops and taken to an industrial park near his college. Ratchet manages to locate Sam in an abandoned foundry and sends Bumblebee the coordinates. Bumblebee rescues Sam and gets him to the extraction point, Grindor attacks, but Bumblebee manages to defeat him. To aid their allies against the Decepticons, Optimus decides to give them advanced weaponry and escorts the Axiom Gun to NEST headquarters. After getting the convoy to destination, the Autobots meet with Sam who is going to visit the deli where Agent Simmons is currently working. With intel from Simmons, Sam has Bumblebee take him to the museum to seek out a robot named Jetfire. While Sam looks for Jetfire, Bumblebee defends the museum from the Decepticon troops. Jetfire emerges from the museum and takes Sam through the inter-dimensional space bridge to Cairo, Egypt, with the Autobots following.

Jetfire reveals the Dynasty of Primes have constructed a machine called the Sun Harvester hidden in an Egyptian pyramid. He says the device destroys stars to harvest their energy. Upon arrival in the outskirts of Cairo, the Autobots search for Sam while evading Decepticon troops. After finding Sam, Optimus Prime takes him to the Tomb of the 12 Ancients. While Sam is in the tomb, Optimus defends it from Megatron and Starscream. Optimus defeats Megatron and Starscream, but they escape after Megatron impales Jetfire. Before dying, Jetfire lends his wings and parts to Optimus Prime. In the city Bumblebee faces Devastator who is leading the Decepticon troops attacking Cairo.

The Fallen reveals himself and the Sun Harvester. Optimus battles The Fallen, destroying him by impaling his face with his sword. The Fallen falls into the Sun Harvester, destroying it. With the Ancient Transformers avenged, Ratchet tells Optimus that Megatron is on a ship in a distant galaxy. Optimus then salutes his troops for their good work in stopping the Decepticons.

Decepticon Campaign
The Decepticon campaign begins in Shanghai with Sideways tracking down Autobots in his area. He then learns that Grindor has gone missing and Sideways must find, repair, and transport Grindor to the extraction site. Once Grindor is safe, he attacks Autobots protecting NEST arrays and infiltrates them with a viroids, viruses that give the Decepticons access to NEST communications. Elsewhere, Long Haul destroys NEST bases located around the city of Shanghai. Ironhide emerges to fight Long Haul but is defeated. Starscream proclaims the victory as a message to Optimus Prime.

The Decepticons then head to Burbank, California. Soundwave has learned that Sam Witwicky has given a shard of the Allspark to Mikaela. They hope to recover the shard and revive Megatron. Long Haul destroys buildings, capturing men who may know Mikaela's location. However, the probe Starscream uses kills the first three before they can be of any use. Although the last engineer dies, Starscream is able to discover Mikaela's location. Long Haul is once again sent to recover her. Unfortunately, Starscream receives word that the Decepticon troops transporting Mikaela has been intercepted by the Autobots. After this, Starscream decides to kidnap NSA chief Galloway. After destroying several buildings owned by the front corporation Massive Dynamics, Starscream captures Galloway and places him under Decepticon control. Breakaway attempts to stop the Decepticons, but he is killed by Grindor.

With Galloway under their control, the Decepticons learn both the location of the AllSpark shard and where Megatron's remains have been hidden. Soundwave dispatches Ravage to retrieve the shard, while Starscream and Long Haul head to the Laurentian Abyss. Starscream destroys the turrets on aircraft carriers stationed at the Abyss, allowing the Decepticons to gain access to Megatron's remains. Long Haul uses the shard to raise Megatron back to life, who returns to the Nemesis and presents himself to the Fallen. Megatron believes he has failed, but the Fallen reveals that there is a machine that can create the energon needed to raise their army. The knowledge lies within Sam Witwicky. Megatron dispatches Grindor to retrieve the boy, and succeeds, but the Autobots rescue him when Starscream's extraction unit is defeated. However, their hunt for the boy has drawn out Optimus Prime. Megatron defeats Optimus and has Starscream destroy a museum that Sam entered, but he is not among the ruins. They learn he was transported to Cairo, Egypt via a Space Bridge created by Jetfire.

Megatron arrives on the outskirts of an Egyptian city and engages Autobots in combat. Jetfire and Bumblebee both challenge him, but are destroyed. Long Haul is then dispatched to destroy the Axiom Gun. With the last threats removed, Megatron goes to meet the Fallen at the harvester. However, Optimus survived his battle with Megatron and reveals that The Fallen has no way to make Megatron a Prime, as Primes are born, not made. Megatron then attacks and destroys his former master, but Optimus is able to destroy the harvester before it can destroy the sun.

With his initial plan ruined, Megatron returns to the Nemesis and activates the protoforms inside the ship, commanding his new army to arise.
*For destroying 350 Autobots in the Decepticon campaign, you earn the Bad Boys Achievement/Trophy.

*Six episodes of the Generation 1 cartoon can be unlocked in the course of the game: "S.O.S. Dinobots", "Fire on the Mountain", "War of the Dinobots", and "The Ultimate Doom", Parts 1, 2, and 3.

*G1-style colour schemes for Ironhide and Starscream can be unlocked for both single and multiplayer modes. Additionally, a yellow colour scheme can be unlocked for Long Haul, making him more closely resemble a conventional (or Tonka) dump truck.

*As in the previous games, Frank Welker returns as Megatron. He does not, however, voice any of the characters (Soundwave, Grindor, and Devastator) he did in the movie.

*Several multiplayer levels feature advertisements for Coca-Cola.

*Fans of G1 will be pleased to find out that some Achievements/Trophies are named after episodes of the G1 cartoon, such as Carnage in C-Minor and Megatron's Master Plan. There's even an Achievement/Trophy titled You've Got The Touch.

*Starscream is the only boss that is fought twice during the game.

*Ratchet doesn't exist in the Decepticon campaign. Again.

*This game was Luxoflux's last game.

Differences between the Game and Movie
* The Decepticons are not looking for the Matrix of Leadership as they did in the movie, but the star harvester itself (in the movie they already knew where the harvester was).
* In the Decepticon campaign, it's said that the Decepticons were in Shanghai to look for Megatron's remains.
* Breakaway did not appear in the movie.
* In the movie, Bumblebee is still having troubles with his speech. In the game, he has completely regained his speech.
* In the game, Optimus Prime doesn't die in either campaign, so he wasn't resurrected in the game. The battle in the forest doesn't happen either, but there's a similar battle in Cairo against Megatron and Starscream, although Jetfire is also present.
* Jetfire's death is altered. In the movie, he commits suicide and gives his parts to Optimus. In the games, he is either stabbed by Megatron before giving his parts to Optimus (Autobot campaign) or killed by the player (Decepticon campaign). Also, in the movie there's a neat combination sequence for Jetfire's parts and Optimus. In the game...Prime just abruptly appears in Autobot HQ in the next cutscene wearing Jetfire armor. Talk about anti-climactic.
* In the movie, Sideways is killed by Sideswipe. In the Autobot campaign, he is killed by Ironhide (or whoever the player is), since although Sideswipe was later added to the game as downloadable content, he was originally absent from this game.
* Along with Sideswipe, Skids, Mudflap, Arcee, Wheelie and Jolt are absent from the game's story, and Ravage is only mentioned briefly in the Decepticon campaign. The only Constructicon to make an appearance, except as a part of Devastator, is Long Haul (as well as Constructicon Scouts very rarely being present as enemies in the Autobot campaign). Of the major human characters, Leo Spitz is not seen or mentioned during the game, and Agent Simmons is only mentioned in a mission where the player has to escort Sam to the deli where he works.
* Like other adaptations, the Tomb of the Primes is called the Tomb of the Twelve, while in the movie, there were only seven dead Primes.
* In the movie, Devastator is killed at the pyramids. In the game, he is killed in Cairo, meaning he never gets the chance to rip the pyramid apart, yet in the battle against The Fallen, the pyramid is open, revealing the star harvester.
* The Autobots did not supply the humans with a weapon to battle the Decepticons in the movie.
* Starscream speaks in a voice rather reminiscent of his G1 counterpart in the movie. In the game, his voice is far deeper and more aggressive in nature, although he has the same voice actor.
* Similarly, Megatron is deep-voiced in the film. In the game, however, he has literally the exact same voice of his G1 counterpart. He even has the trademark laugh.
* In the game, the Decepticons have to fight their way past a Naval fleet in order to reach Megatron's remains. In the movie, they just sneak past them on a ship and then dive straight down.
* Demolishor is shown to be much more heavily damaged in the film, before his final moment, than in the game. For instance, in the film, his entire face is shown to be falling apart; in the game, it's fine.
* Reedman and Alice are absent from the game.
