'''G.I. Joe to the rescue, but is it too late?'''

==Synopsis==
While nuclear weapons head towards [[Cobra Island]], Duke sends Wheeljack to the [[SPS Satellite]] control center on the island where he'll rendezvous with another group including Mainframe and Sci-Fi; hopefully they can use the satellite to destroy the nukes. When they get to the base, they find the entire building empty, except for the dastardly Dr. Mindbender.

Moments later, the satellite is reprogrammed, but Storm Shadow and a posse of goons arrive to mess things up. Luckily, the nuclear weapons are destroyed before they can detonate, but on the downside, the satellite control was damaged in the firefight, causing the satellite to rain deadly lasers over the local area.

Cobra Commander is making plans to vamoose, when he runs into Starscream, still damaged after his fight against Snake-Eyes. The two plot together a mutually beneficial agreement.

Outside, Megatron fights against [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]]. The soldiers fight against Megatron (with some incidental aid from the satellite laser, which also kills Mercer... but eh). Prime arrives to finish the job, but heroically steals Megatron's cannon. G.I. Joe provides the co-ordinate of the satellite. Fueled by [[Energon (fuel)|Energon]], Prime fires a blast into space, destroying the laser, saving everybody on the island.

Weeks later, Optimus Prime thanks G.I. Joe for their aid in constructing a new ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]''. To get by without the [[Autobot]]s' help on Earth, the members of G.I. Joe have received [[G.I. Joe battle mech|new giant robots of their own to pilot]]. Underground, government scientists have recovered the [[Decepticon]] hardware and have begun some very dangerous experiments.

While in the Florida Keys, the escaped Cobra Commander and Starscream bicker.
==Errors==
* Trailbreaker appeared to have died in the previous issue but is alive and fighting in this one.
* A [[Conehead]]-type Decepticon is seen during the battle, but as he is colored like a [[Rattler]] just like Skywarp and Thundercracker, it's unclear if he's meant to be [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]], or [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]]. The erroneous part is that ''[[G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II]]'' and ''[[G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: The Art of War|The Art of War]]'' would later establish that the Conehead trio were on Cybertron all along.

==Items of note==
* The duo of Cobra Commander and Starscream was chosen because their classic voice actors were both [[Chris Latta]], who used a suspiciously similar voice for both characters.
* Now you know... and knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE!!
*'''Superion''' (Multi-pack, 2009)

: ''[[Revenge of the Fallen (toyline)|Revenge of the Fallen]]'' Superion is a redeco of ''[[Energon (toyline)|Energon]]'' [[Air Team]]/[[Superion Maximus]] combiner. Superion is composed of his five team members, with Silverbolt forming his central body component. His limbs' [[Energon weapon|energon weapons]] form his hands and feet. Similarly to [[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]]'s [[Combiner#Terms_for_combiners|Scramble City]] combiner teams, Superion features universal connection points for the limbs, allowing many different combinations and even swapping of limbs from different teams.

:Superion was [[exclusive|exclusively]] available at [[Target]] stores in the USA and at Zellers stores in Canada, and as a mass market release in the United Kingdom. His components were not available separately, only in a combiner five-pack.

: Like [[Bruticus Maximus (ROTF)|Bruticus Maximus]], this toy was originally intended to be released as part of the 2008 ''[[Universe (2008 franchise)|Universe]]'' line as [[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]] [[Superion (G1)|Superion]], but was ultimately only released in ''Universe'' packaging on non-US markets such as Singapore and Australia, whereas the USA, Mexico and Canada got the toy in ''Revenge of the Fallen'' packaging instead.

::*''[http://www.tfu.info/2009/Autobot/Superion/superion.htm More information on Superion at TFU.info]''

==Notes==
*Due to a widespread [[misassembly|assembling error]], Silverbolt's knees are backwards, preventing correct movement. A part swap (that involves ''very'' tiny pieces and springs that ''really'' want to pop out) can correct this, unless you are unlucky enough to own a sample with one correct leg and one incorrect leg. However some ''really '' lucky ducks have one that actually has both legs correct.
* According to the instructions and packaging photos, Airazor forms Superion's right arm, Fireflight forms his left arm, Skydive forms his right leg, and Air Raid forms his left leg. However, the layout of the figures in the packaging nominally puts Skydive as his right arm, Airazor as his left arm, Air Raid as his right leg, and Fireflight as his left leg. And because his limbs are all interchangeable, you can have it either way! Or neither way!
'''''Transformers: Robots in Disguise''''' was the first dubbed Transformers show ever broadcast for a US audience. (Rather [[Omni Productions|questionable English dubs]] of the Japan-exclusive G1 cartoons were produced in Asia, but have never aired in the US).

==Overview==
''Car Robots'', the original Japanese series from which it was adapted, premiered in Japan in 2000. Originally the series was not going to be imported from Japan, but when Hasbro scrapped the planned ''[[Transtech]]'' line at the eleventh hour the ''Car Robots'' line and its attendant cartoon were imported to fill the void until a new replacement could be designed.

''Robots in Disguise'' was produced and dubbed by [[Saban Entertainment]], and aired from September 2001 to March 2002. It was something of a return to roots for Transformers fiction, in the sense that many characters transformed into realistic, modern Earth vehicles instead of animals or abstract/futuristic vehicles, as was standard in the [[Beast Era]]. It also marked the return of the [[Autobot]] faction and sigil for the good guys. (The villains, initially, remained [[Predacon (RID)|Predacons]], though the [[Decepticon]]s are eventually added to their ranks as well, as a sub-group.)

[[Image:RiD Cartoon Intro Title.JPG|left|210px|thumb|There's the signpost up ahead... your next stop: The T-AI-Light Zone.]]
Animation in the series was cel-based, moving away from the CGI that had been a hallmark of Transformers television series in the US since 1996. It features many standard anime light-comedy stylings, and is replete with overdone facial expressions, comic effects like sweat drops surrounding a character's head to signify confusion or consternation, and the traditional streaked background behind the character for high-action shots or [[stock footage]] transformation/attack sequences.

Takara at the time tended to aim their Transformers line and its fiction at younger audiences than Hasbro, resulting in a more light-hearted, comedic tone overall. Storylines were typically light or goofy and sometimes relied on bad jokes, absurd imagery and slapstick. Many fans appreciated the series' humorous approach, and others did not, but comic foil [[Sky-Byte (RID)|Sky-Byte]] became a fan-favorite character.

Most of the voice actors, though veterans of other Saban properties (basically, ''everyone'' from ''Digimon''), had never worked on a Transformers series before--with the conspicuous exception of [[Michael McConnohie]], one of the series voice directors and himself the voice of [[Hot Shot (RID)|Hot Shot]]; McConnohie had provided voice talent for [[Cosmos (G1)|Cosmos]] and [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]] in the original ''The Transformers'' cartoon.

All 39 episodes were scheduled to run during the afternoon Fox Kids programming block on the Fox television network. The third episode, "[[Bullet Train to the Rescue]]", was scheduled to air on [[September 11]], 2001, but was preempted in most areas because of the terrorist attacks in America that day. Areas where "[[Fox Kids]]" was aired on a secondary station (like KDFI 27 in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX) aired the episode that day. Later episodes were re-edited to remove scenes that might be jarring to a newly sensitive viewing public, causing these episodes to air out-of-order. Other episodes were cut entirely and were not seen in the US. Disney now owns the cartoon through their acquisition of Saban.

''Car Robots''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s opening song is "[[Honō no Overdrive: Car Robot Cybertron|Honō no Overdrive ~Car Robot Cybertron~]]" and ending song is "[[Marionette]]".
== Premise ==
The Predacons attack (a just-slightly futuristic) Earth and kidnap a famous scientist. The Autobots, who'd already established themselves in secret on Earth are ready for them and together with the scientist's son, [[Koji Onishi|Koji]], fight to stop the Predacons from finding the ancient hidden secret they've come to Earth to claim.

== Connections to other fiction ==
The ''Robots in Disguise'' cartoon was the first total reboot of Transformers fiction. As the first official material not set in any Generation 1 universe it established the first alternate continuity family in the line's history. Many episodes of ''Robots in Disguise'' featured references to characters and events from earlier ''Transformers'' series. These were typically not written by the dub team but, rather, were added by Hasbro employee [[Andrew Frankel]] after the scripts were submitted to the company for broadcast approval. These "easter egg" continuity references lead some fans to speculate on possible connections between the ''Robots in Disguise'' universe and previous franchises; but this died down as the series progressed, as the fact remains that despite these easter egg references, much of the ''Robots in Disguise'''s story is too different from any existing Generation 1 universe for it to fit well together.

The first ''Car Robots'' toy catalog established Optimus Prime/Fire Convoy's crew as a "Dimensional Patrol" that followed the Predacons/Destrongers from another dimension to 21st-century Earth. This concept does not seem to have been played up in the Japanese version of the show — if it was mentioned at all — to the point that ''Robots in Disguise'' was able to dub entirely around it.

Things got more complicated in 2006, however, when a [[retcon]] performed by [[TakaraTomy]] through online timelines and flowcharts, and [[Generation 1 cartoon timeline (Japan)|more detailed printed material]] from the [[Kiss Players (franchise)|''Kiss Players'' franchise]], retroactively established ''Car Robots'' as part of the Japanese Generation 1 animated continuity, occurring in the year 2000. Broadly speaking, this was accomplished by exploiting the somewhat-unresolved ending of the obscure manga, ''[[The Stargate Battles]]'', which had ended with the majority of Transformers on Earth disappearing for some time, thereby allowing ''Car Robots'' to slip in with minimal opposition. Most connections between ''Car Robots'' and other aspects of the fiction center on [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]], who was tied into important events from ''[[Robot Masters]]'', ''[[Kiss Players (franchise)|Kiss Players]]'' and ''[[The Headmasters (franchise)|The Headmasters]]''.

''Robots in Disguise'', mind you, remains unconnected to the Western Generation 1 universe, and is still a separate continuity family there. And that's despite the fact RID contains more references to the Generation 1 universe than the original (and now in G1 continuity) ''Car Robots'' show because of the aforementioned easter eggs. Your head can start to hurt now!
