'''As both sides approach the ancient ''Lemuria'' starship, Optimus Prime suffers a breakdown.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:Cyb_ep45_starscream_free.jpg|left|thumb|220px]]

Within the starship ''[[Atlantis]]'', still entombed in concrete on the surface of [[Gigantion]], [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] rants and raves, and finally busts his way out through a wall, swearing that he'll beat ''everyone'', [[Autobot]] and [[Decepticon]] alike.

Meanwhile, far below, in the lowermost depths of the multi-layered planet, the [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]]'s Autobot team open the final gate to the central layer of Gigantion: the original, organic planet around which the inhabitants built layers upon layer of cities. [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]] says the legendary "flying city" of [[Lemuria (Cybertron)|Lemuria]] is supposed to be here, and Optimus notes it sounds like one of the ancient starships responsible for bringing the [[Cyber Planet Key]]s to the colony worlds. [[Wing Saber (Energon)|Wing Saber]] and [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] race off to go look for it, much to Metroplex's amusement and Optimus's mild dismay.

Elsewhere, [[Coby Hansen|Coby]] is doing another round of repair work on [[Landmine (Energon)|Landmine]], checking over the old wounds that the rough-and-tumble Autobot has had for as long as Coby has known him, and notes he's finally at 100%. [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] and [[Quickmix (Cybertron)|Quickmix]] arrive and do a little teasing.

[[Image:Cyb ep45 prime clobbered.jpg|right|220px|thumb]]
Back at the central layer, Wing Saber and Override find the ''Lemuria'', partially submerged in a huge lake. As Optimus and the others race to catch up, a large chunk of the fake sky collapses in their path, courtesy of [[Megatron (Armada)|Galvatron]] and [[Menasor (Cybertron)|Menasor]], who make their dramatic entrance. While Menasor and Metroplex face off, Optimus Prime and Wing Saber combine into Sonic Wing Mode to duke it out with Galvatron. As they battle, Galvatron taunts Optimus about having bested the [[Cybertron Defense Team]] and muses that maybe Optimus has finally figured out that soldiers are best regarded as disposable, to be sacrificed as needed. Optimus and Wing Saber are separated, and the enraged Wing Saber tries to tackle Galvatron alone. Naturally, it doesn't work, so the two take off to link up again, when Galvatron declares he'll just turn the force of his attacks on Wing Saber... making Optimus refuse to link up for fear of Saber's safety. Prime takes on Galvatron alone, but one punch from the mighty Decepticon leader lands him flat on his back.

Coby (piloting his [[Cobybot]]), Landmine, Evac and Quickmix reach the central layer themselves, and rendezvous with Override at the ''Lemuria''. Having heard word of Optimus's battle via communication from Bud and Lori, Coby relays the information to Override, and she and Evac immediately head off to back him up while the others to explore the ''Lemuria''. The two planet leaders arrive on the scene as Galvatron continues to bludgeon Optimus, but Evac quickly gets a handle on the situation, and tells everyone to hold back, realizing that Optimus will tell them when he needs them. Galvatron soon breaks off the fight and races away to go claim the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key, so the Autobtos gives chase. In the course of the pursuit, however, Wing Saber and Override ignore Optimus Prime's commands not to engage the Decepticon leader, and are taken down. Only Evac continues the chase, as Optimus Prime collapses to his knees...

[[Image:MiniCon-Block.jpg|left|220px|thumb|Who wants a hug?]]
Menasor and Metroplex continue their battle, arguing all the while, with the rebel noting how Metroplex treated him "like a kid." He knocks Metroplex over and moves in to drill him, but Metroplex's [[Mini-Con]] [[Drill Bit (Cybertron)|Drill Bit]] steps in the way. Menasor tells Drill Bit to step aside, but suddenly, Menasor's own partner, [[Heavy Load (Cybertron)|Heavy Load]] pops out of his compartment in Menasor's chest and joins Drill Bit in standing between the two giants. Metroplex gets up and notes that their partners are right in stopping the fight; Menasor may be going down the path of evil, but Metroplex isn't helping by being so stuck in his ways and forgetting when ''he'' was young and cocky, and that the two should be friends again. Metroplex forgives Menasor for his actions, and Menasor rejoins Metroplex's crew. Awww.

[[Image:Cyb ep45 key found.jpg|right|thumb|220px]]

Inside the ''Lemuria'', Coby's team is heading deeper inside the ship, using the ''[[Atlantis]]'' layout as a guide. They enter the main hall where the Gigantion [[Cyber Planet Key]] rests. Landmine takes the Key and remarks at how easy this was to find for once...which is, of course, the cue for Starscream to come smashing through the wall and take down Quickmix.

Back outside, Optimus laments that he's putting everyone's lives at risk in each battle. He recalls how he couldn't stop then-Megatron from blowing away [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]], [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] and [[Scattorshot (Cybertron)|Scattorshot]] back on Earth, and that things may be even worse now. Vector Prime tries to convince him otherwise, but Optimus won't hear it, and Vector Prime eventually loses his patience, balls his fist and decks Optimus ''hard'', accusing him of arrogance and the belief that his troops fight purely for him. Vector Prime lectures Optimus, telling him that he would not be a good leader if was ''not'' worried for the safety of his force, but that he must realize that his troops trust him so much because they know that ''he'' trusts ''them''. His confidence buoyed, Optimus thanks Vector Prime, and they set out to deal with Galvatron.

[[Image:GiantLandmine.jpg|left|220px|thumb|This move is called the "''Deus Ex Machina''".]]
Back where the action is, Evac and Override follow Galvatron inside the ''Lemuria'', where Starscream is busy throwing Landmine around, making him drop the Key. Landmine reaches for it, but Starscream stomps on him, so Coby tries to help him, only to be ordered back by the stricken Autobot. Landmine refuses to give in, and the Cyber Planet Key reacts, filling Landmine with its power and transforming him into a giant! Faced with the prospect of picking on someone his own size, Starscream doesn't do very well, and Landmine finally gets his chance to avenge himself against Starscream, punching him into the ceiling, then following up with his Cyber-Key-powered "Cyber Tempest" wind attack. Starscream is sent crashing through the ceiling and flying out of the ship, sinking into the depths of the surrounding lake. No sooner has one foe been dispatched, however, than another appears, as Galvatron blasts his way through the wall, followed by Evac and Override.

[[Image:Cyb_ep45_save_the_universe.jpg|right|thumb|220px]]

Outside, as the other Autobots approach the ''Lemuria'', they are shocked to see Landmine and Galvatron burst out of it, fighting. Override, Evac and Wing Saber join Landmine in the fray, while Primes Optimus and Vector stand around and talk about trust and spirit and stuff. The arrival of Quickmix and the Cybertron Defense Team means further punishment for Galvatron, and as Optimus watches the united forces of his team working together for one common goal, his faith in them and in himself is restored, and his [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] glows within his chest. Metroplex offers Optimus his axe, Optimus powers it up with a Cyber Key, and he sends Galvatron flying away into the sky. The battle done, Landmine hands the Cyber Planet Key to Optimus, and he returns to normal size. The remaining Autobots arrive, and Optimus thanks Vector Prime for his help, before turning to his troops and asking them all if they're ready to save the universe. "Yes, sir!"

"Sheer ''arrogance''! Do you honestly think the Autobots fight these battles for ''you'', Optimus? ... We are here, all of us, because we want to save our homes and put an end to Galvatron's evil! ... Because of ''you'' we fight together as a team! Every single leader throughout history worried about the welfare of his forces when they went into battle, Optimus! But ''you'' must trust them to do their duty!"

==Notes==
===Differences with ''Galaxy Force''===
*Vector Prime's speech is a bit heavier on the "tough love" in ''Galaxy Force'', as he angrily accuses Optimus Prime of having lost faith in his team in order to shock him out of his despair.
*''Cybertron'' is less explicit in its callback to the wound Coby is repairing on Landmine: it is, of course, the one he sustained in the first episode of the series. Likewise, ''Cybertron'' also omits some dialogue that highlights for the uninitiated the fact Starscream is stomping on Landmine's wounded arm, which he was responsible for damaging originally.
*In ''Cybertron'', Wing Saber's episode-ending joke (quoted above) is that he is glad he doesn't have to look at Landmine's butt. In ''Galaxy Force'', he is relieved to have discovered that Optimus Prime has worries like everyone else. Which is... not much of a joke.

===Animation or technical errors===
[[Image:ShrinkingHeavy.jpg|right|250px|thumb|Hey, Heavy Load, Kirstie Alley just called...]]
* Heavy Load pretty blatantly [[Scale|size-changes]]. When he exits Menasor's chest compartment, he takes up most of the torso, like the actual toy. When we see him in comparison to the others, though, he's ''tiny''.
* In that same long-shot (see screen shot), Metroplex is missing the socket part of his right ankle assembly.
* In the shot where Override gets hit by Galvatron's blasters, Prime is already supporting her ''before'' the bolts collide, making it look like he's holding her so Galvatron can shoot her better.

===Transformers references===
* Galvatron's "Yes"es in this episode are very [[Megatron (BW)|''Beast Wars'' Megatronny]]. Of course, both characters ''are'' voiced by [[David Kaye]].
*The ''Atlantis'' was buried in concrete in "[[City]]".
*Galvatron's defeat of the Cybertron Defense Team happened in the [[Scourge (episode)|previous episode]]. Optimus Prime also flashes back to their near-fatal shooting in "[[Revelation (episode)|Revelation]]".
*Coby downloaded the layout of the ''Atlantis'' into his communicator back in "[[Memory]]".
*The whole Landmine-versus-Starscream climax of this episode is, of course, a big ol' callback to the first episode of the series, with Landmine finally getting to trounce the guy who wounded him so badly and caused him to be sent to Earth in the first place.

===Real-world references===
* Like the ''Atlantis'' and ''[[Ogygia]]'' before it, the ''[[Wikipedia:Lemuria (continent)|Lemuria]]'' is named for a mythical lost continent.
* Coby sums up the episode by declaring: "And that's how Optimus Prime got his groove back!", a reference to the movie-based-on-a-novel ''[[wikipedia:How_Stella_Got_Her_Groove_Back|How Stella Got Her Groove Back]]''.

===Trivia===
* This is the first we ever see of Heavy Load. What was he ''doing'' inside Menasor all this time?
* The interior of the ''Lemuria'' is ''colossal''; the main chamber's ceiling is several times as high as Quickmix. If the Gigantions were normal-sized when they were actually ''on'' the ship....
* Cartoon Network's website listed this episode's title as "Leader".
* Here's another bit of Japanese culture. Vector Prime uses two forms of "you" in ''Galaxy Force'', "''omae''" お前 and "''kimi''" 君, when addressing Optimus after Gigantion's Cyber Key is obtained. "''Omae''" infers a distant relationship, whereas "''kimi''" is a bit less formal but implies a closer relationship.
'''After a GroundBridge failure, the kids are flung into another dimension with a reanimated Skyquake.'''

==Synopsis==

[[Image:Shadowzone-MegsStarscream.jpg|left|thumb|300px|"Baby, I don't ''want'' to hurt you!"]]

[[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] lies in the ''[[Nemesis (Prime)|Nemesis]]''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> lab, having taken a severe pounding from [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]]. His leader pays a visit, mostly to gloat over how their positions have changed. Once he leaves, Starscream rips himself free of the cables feeding him. [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] is shocked to see Starscream up and about, but Starscream claims angrily that he feels fine and limps away. Starscream retrieves a shard of [[Dark Energon]]—the one he originally ripped from Megatron's body—from its hiding place and promises that his and Megatron's positions will be reversed.

At the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot base]], [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] reports that he's detected a weak but rapidly moving Dark Energon signal, which the [[Autobot]]s assume is Megatron. [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] wonders if he plans to use it raise a new army of [[Terrorcon (Prime)|Terrorcons]] ([[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] seems thrilled at the prospect of zombie-cons) and [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] notes that it's possible, given the Dark Energon signal is moving to a familiar site.

[[Image:Shadowzone-purple.jpg|right|thumb|300px|"The Power Cosmic!"]]
Starscream arrives at the site of [[Skyquake (Prime)|Skyquake]]'s grave, announcing that this time the fallen warrior will be his servant. Breaking off a chunk of the Dark Energon and throwing it into the cairn, Starscream plunges the rest of it into himself and feels the power flowing through him.

Optimus Prime readies the Autobots to move out, though Ratchet's surprised that he's on the team. As Miko yells words of encouragement to [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], [[Jack Darby|Jack]] and [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]] observe that she's obviously up to something, since she's acting disinterested in coming along. Indeed, as the Autobots head through the [[GroundBridge]], Miko makes a break for the opening, and Jack and Raf give chase. Jack manages to grab her on the threshold, but she shakes loose and runs through, though [[Miko's phone|her cell phone]] is knocked from her belt. The three kids arrive on site just behind the Autobots and scramble up a nearby outcropping to watch the anticipated battle. The Autobots are surprised to find Starscream instead of Megatron, and he takes advantage by shooting at them and proclaiming his invulnerability. Optimus responds by shooting one of Starscream's arms off. As the Autobots close in, Starscream takes cover and shouts at Skyquake to hurry up and rise before panicking and requesting an emergency GroundBridge. The Autobots finally spot the kids when Miko shouts at Jack for making her lose her phone, just in time for [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] to call from base asking where the kids are. Optimus orders her to send a GroundBridge. Ratchet is surprised when ''two'' GroundBridge portals open, but orders the kids to go in. They do so, and Starscream likewise dives through the 'Con GroundBridge, but moments later, green energy begins swirling around everywhere. Bulkhead runs to save the kids, but is knocked back from the GroundBridge portal, which then explodes.

Starscream arrives back on the ''Nemesis'' and tells the [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]] operator to keep his mouth shut. After leaving the GroundBridge room, he removes the chunk of Dark Energon from his chest.

The kids pick themselves up, as do the Autobots, but the kids quickly discover that the Autobots can't see them, and to Miko's alarm, Bulkhead steps right through her. Unaware, the Autobots speculate on what happened to the kids. Raf works out that he, Jack and Miko are in a sort of alternate dimension he calls a [[Shadowzone (dimension)|shadowzone]]. Optimus observes that Skyquake's grave is empty and requests a GroundBridge from Arcee. The kids spot Skyquake—now a Dark Energon zombie—heading towards the Autobots. Their cries of warning go unheard, but Skyquake's strike passes right through Bulkhead. The kids rapidly realize that Skyquake is in the same dimension as they are, and they and run for it. Raf trips and is carried to safety by Jack, but has lost his glasses. Miko makes an ill-advised recovery of the spectacles, and they continue their flight.

The Autobots are at a loss to locate the kids until [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] suggests calling them. Bulkhead rings Miko, only to discover her lost cellphone sitting on the floor in the Autobot base. Arcee rings Jack, and in the shadowzone, his phone rings, but there's too much interference for him and Arcee to communicate. The kids hit on the idea of sending a text message to Miko's phone but are forced to run as Skyquake finds them. Miko is just realizing that they've gone in a circle when they literally run into Starscream's lost arm.

Knock Out examines Starscream, who covers for his lost arm by saying it just fell off. The medic tries unsuccessfully to interest him in a replacement upgrade arm.

[[Image:Shadowzone_HappymusPrime.jpg|left|thumb|300px|What? Optimus is ''smiling''?! No! We're ''still'' in another dimension!]]

Meanwhile, the kids use Starscream's arm to fire a missile at Skyquake. They manage to blast Skyquake's arm off, but it promptly animates and starts charging towards them at high speed. The kids start running once again.

At base, Bulkhead notices that Miko's phone is flashing, and the Autobots finally get the kids' message. Ratchet sets about trying to locate where they are.

Starscream's piece of Dark Energon starts pulsing, which he takes to mean that Skyquake has risen. He tells Knock Out, returning with a new arm, that he's going to go and retrieve his old arm.

Ratchet pinpoints the kids to the location of Skyquake's grave and starts working on a way to return them to the normal dimension.

The kids find themselves back at Starscream's arm and are confronted by Starscream himself, come to find Skyquake. Luckily, he can't see them, but they're forced to run toward him when Skyquake's arm appears. A GroundBridge portal opens in front of them, and they run through at the last moment. Starscream is startled by the three humans running past, but then Skyquake's arm follows them through the portal and grabs Starscream's head. He has barely shaken the thing loose when Optimus, Bulkhead and Arcee arrive, and he has to request another emergency GroundBridge.

[[Image:Shadowzone-alone.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Zombies have no respect for personal space!]]
Back at base, Miko takes responsibility for the whole venture, much to Jack's surprise, but the Autobots decide she's been through enough. Bulkhead regrets she didn't get to take any pictures, but Miko asserts that the mental image of zombie Skyquake will be enough.

Knock Out performs more repairs on Starscream and enquires whether he retrieved his arm. Back in the shadowzone, Skyquake briefly tries Starscream's arm on for size before tossing it away.
"You cannot harm me while Dark Energon flows through my veins!"<br>
:—'''Starscream''', seconds before Optimus blows off his arm.

"I can't see without my glasses!"<br>
"What are you, ninety?"<br>
"Not. Helping!"<br>
:—A glasses-less '''Raf''', a jerky '''Miko''' and a frustrated '''Jack'''.

"Uhhh, Starscream, I don't quite understand how this could have happened."<br>
"And yet it DID! Can you imagine my horror? There I am, minding my own business, when my arm just falls off! Clearly, Megatron inflicted more damage upon me than you realize, ''doctor''..."<br>
"Well, on the bright side, this provides an excellent opportunity for an upgrade! Let's see...you could go with the Sonic Cannon. It's reliable, low-maintainence, although it lacks a certain flair. Personally, I prefer the Null Ray. It has just the right mix of flash and firepower!"<br>
"I DON'T WANT A NEW MODEL! I just want the same arm I had before!"<br>
"Starscream, your equipment is a bit...uh...obsolete. I'm not sure I have another one lying around. Of course, we COULD try to salvage yours. You kept it, didn't you?"<br>
"It was...beyond recovery."<br>

:—'''Knock Out''' treats '''Starscream''', who won't admit to what really happened.

"How can a zombie arm move faster than the actual zombie?"
:—That's a very good question, '''Miko'''.

"Look what I found in storage- What are you doing?!"<br>
"You were right, Knock Out; I'm much too attached to my original appendage! I WILL retrieve it!"
:—'''Knock Out''' gets more lies from '''Starscream''' while the viewers laugh ''their'' arms off.

"Ratchet, can we triangulate the geographical position of the cell phone signal?"<br>
"''In a parallel dimensional plane?!''... Let's find out."
:—'''Optimus Prime''' poses a challenge for '''Ratchet'''.

"Agh! Unhand me!"<br>
:—'''Starscream''' to Skyquake's hand. Sorry.

==Notes==
===Animation or technical errors===

===Continuity errors===
* Skyquake's arm continues to function even after being blasted off. When Ratchet severs a zombie's arm in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 4]]", the arm is shown deactivating moments later. It is possible that this is due to Skyquake being somewhat 'fresher' than the zombies in Darkness Rising Part 4, the same way [[Cliffjumper (Prime)| Cliffjumper]] was still functional in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 2]]" despite being cut in half.
** It should also be noted that both Cliffjumper and Skyquake were revived with one shard of Dark Energon each while the zombies in Darkness Rising Part 4 were all revived by one single shard. This may mean that using a single shard on one corpse could make it more deadlier and harder to kill than a corpse revived with several others by one single Dark Energon shard.
* Jack [[Darkness Rising, Part 2|previously discovered]] that the Autobot base was shielded from cell-phone reception. This may have something to do with the "cell phone comlink patch" Raf mentions in "[[Convoy (episode)|Convoy]]".

===Continuity notes===
* Starscream attempts to raise Skyquake as a zombie the way Megatron raised an undead army in "[[Darkness Rising]]" parts [[Darkness Rising, Part 4|4]] and [[Darkness Rising, Part 5|5]]. He even quotes Megatron's exact line about symbiosis.
* Starscream stole the Dark Energon shard he uses from Megatron way back in "[[Masters & Students]]". Likewise, Skyquake made his previous appearance in the same episode, and the action in this episode happens around his burial site.

===Transformers references===
* This episode finally has the Autobots refer to the ''Nemesis'' by name. The name was previously given to the [[Nemesis (G1)|Decepticon cruiser]] from Generation 1 in "[[Nemesis Part 1]]".
* When suggesting alternative arm weapons for Starscream, Knock Out makes a few references to past [[Starscream (disambiguation)|Starscreams]]: While he recommends a [[null-ray]], as sported by [[Starscream (G1)|Generation 1 Starscream]], he also proposes a "[[sonic cannon]]", in an apparent reference to [[Starscream (Animated)|''Animated'' Starscream]], whose arm cannons were referred to as sonic weapons in various places (though never the ''Animated'' show itself).

===Foreign dubbing===

===Real-world references===
* Ratchet fears that the GroundBridges may have "crossed streams". [[Wikipedia:Ghostbusters|This is generally a very bad thing]].

===Trivia===
* Starscream is apparently obsolete in terms of equipment and systems. Stubborn refusal to upgrade is not unheard of among [[Spotlight: Kup|Transformers]].
* Despite Megatron being pretty ticked off at Starscream in the previous episode, Starscream is still alive (albeit heavily injured). Just like old times!
* [[Jeff Kline]] claimed that when they kill a character, the character stays killed. He wasn't exactly lying: Skyquake reappears, but only as a shambling zombie. He doesn't even get lines, except for groans and moans.
* So Starscream launches the missiles on his arms by flexing his index finger.
* Miko claims to have learned her lesson. Let's see how long that lasts.
* This is the first time since "[[Darkness Rising, Part 1]]" that we've seen Ratchet in his vehicle mode.
