A volcanic plot<br>
But Sky-Byte's true mission is<br>
Arguing with Scourge

Detailed synopsis
Megatron has discovered a volcano at a Caribbean resort holds vast amounts of energy that could be tapped into, and he dispatches the Predacon trio to investigate - while Scourge and Sky-Byte guard the volcano (and glare at each other). While investigating, the Predacons accidentally trigger a volcanic eruption and have to flee for their lives from molten lava. (This happens to be the same resort Kelly is at and using the hot springs - as it gets hotter under the eruption, she relaxes thinking the hotel workers turned the heat up for her)

Discovering the situation and realising the resort could be wiped out, Optimus Prime heads there with the Spy Changers. Sky-Byte is eager to take on his enemy once more - and has composed a haiku for the occasion - but Scourge wants to kill Optimus himself, and interferes with Sky-Byte's attack to launch his own. Sky-Byte is livid but can't get the Decepticon to let him in on the battle.

Optimus is unable to convince the enemy to call off the fight until after the volcano is stopped. When T-AI reports in that only his Blizzard Storm attack can stop a lava overflow, he orders the Spy Changers to take on Sky-Byte and Scourge while he stops the eruption. Unfortunately for him, the Commandos have arrived and attempt to shoot him down!

The Spy Changers quickly regroup to shoot it out with the Commandos, while Hot Shot orders Mirage to hold off Scourge - that doesn't work very well, and Optimus Prime is blasted from behind. W.A.R.S. intervenes to hold Scourge back, allowing Optimus to use his Blizzard Storm and freeze the lava, but this will only last for eight minutes. To make matters worse, the Commandos combine into Ruination and unleash a rapid-fire barrage on the Spy Changers. Down below, the resort is evacuated... except for Kelly, still relaxing in the spring and not noticing what's going on.

Sky-Byte decides to get rid of both Optimus and Scourge in one swoop, destroying the ice plug and part of the volcano to speed up the lava flow. Under orders, the Spychangers quickly take down Ruination (by... pushing him over) and then erect a makeshift rock barricade to hold the lava back. (Meanwhile, Kelly finds the spring getting too hot but is too embarrassed to get out & ask for it to be turned down after she asked it turned up.) Ruination recovers and attacks the barricade, forcing Prime to take him down again - but now they're surrounded by lava and the island is doomed. Scourge confronts Sky-Byte over his attacks trying to hit him, with the shark desperately lying he was only after Optimus.

The Predacon trio finally escapes the lava flow only to emerge outside the volcano with even more lava - "it's following us!".

Hot Shot quickly figures out they can save the resort by redirecting the lava flow, and the Spychangers initiate their group attack "Inferno Blast" to carve a path for it. The Predacons - still fleeing - are ordered to attack and stop the Autobots, with Scourge joining in with a barrage attack (which deliberately hits the Preds too - "what goes around comes around, Sky-Byte."), but it fails to stop them from successfully finishing their path to the ocean. As Optimus takes down Ruination, the Predacons fall into the ocean and are blasted off when the lava comes after them.

With the resort saved, Optimus thanks the Spy Changers for their help. Hot Shot tells him they'll always be ready for action. And back at the resort, Kelly finally decides to emerge from the spring - boiled to the point of collapse.

"If you two insist on fighting us, name the time and the place. But not here and not now. That volcano is already unstable. If it is hit by a missile cell or a laser beam, it's likely erupt, which would endanger the lives of everyone on this island. A battle here is too risky."<br>

Notes
*Kelly is capable of both surviving intense heat and ignoring volcanic eruptions, robot battles and mass evacuations occuring out of earshot. Those constant "talking car" encounters have left their mark...

*Ruination believes he can survive a volcanic eruption.

*The Predacons are given the harder and more boring jobs than the Decepticons, or so they believe. The two groups still hate each other to the point of murder.

*The Spychanger's Inferno Blast is only a short-term move - the longer it's used, the more danger there is of burning out their engines. This is the longest they've done it.

*This episode prominently features two of the "main" rivalries of the series: Optimus vs. Scourge and Scourge vs. Sky-Bite (wonder what would have happened if Ultra Magnus had appeared).

*Lava is alive!

Paradron medics hail from the planet Paradron where a group of pacifist Autobots settled while trying to escape the Great War. As such, they are all likely cowardly peaceniks who'd sooner be shot in the face than defend themselves. Oddly, they all look exactly like Arcee but with a different paint job.

During an outer space battle with the Autobots, Cyclonus and Scourge found themselves defeated and left unconscious on the hidden world of Paradron. There they were then taken in by a community of pacifist refugees from Cybertron. Near the fountains flowing with energon, the two Decepticons were nursed back to health by a pair of Paradron medics. Upon regaining consciousness, Cyclonus and Scourge smacked the medics in the face and tossed them to the side so that they could gorge themselves on energon. The medics simply got up and left without saying a word. Fight or Flee

Synopsis
An enraged Arcee has been tearing a path of destruction through the universe, necessitating Ultra Magnus to hunt her down and bring her in as authorized by the Tyrest Accord. After a protracted battle, she gets knocked out by a flash/concussion grenade and taken into custody by Magnus. As they leave the area, a couple of apparent drones surface and talk to a monitor m- promising that the Nega-Core has not been detected and/or taken, which elicits a confirmation from their red-helmeted, gold-shouldered master that preparations for the Expansion will continue.

Garrus-9 penitentiary: Arcee's spark is being held in a cell, along with some notable others. Apparent warden Fortress Maximus confers with Jetfire and the Technobots about when they can incarcerate the Monstructor components in the same way; Jetfire notes that they can't break through the destructive programming far enough to rehabilitate/reform the sparks (as per Optimus Prime's orders), and as such, haven't pulled the sparks from the frames. As they confer, the Decepticon Onslaught leads his Combaticons in a perfectly-timed (as monitored by Banzaitron) assault on the facility, striking at precisely the right grid-sensor-shuffling moment and breaking into the penitentiary.

Fortress Maximus has no choice but to unleash the "threat-level-9" Arcee on them, with the sole caveat of destroying her spark (via a spark casing g-force crush) if she attempts to escape. A furious battle ensues, but after she cuts through Blast Off and plows through Brawl in vehicle mode, the Combaticons (who recognized her when she first attacked) manage to teleport out with the unconscious Monstructor 'cons (whom Banzaitron wants to join his Secret Service).

Arcee proposes that she be released to hunt them down or killed on the spot. When asked for her motivation she grows angry, commenting that "you don't even know you're DOING it...you unconsciously SENSE a difference." She then reveals that Jhiaxus tampered with her CNA at creation, turning her into a female, "because he was curious, because he could," just to see what introducing gender to the Transformer race would do. He then discarded her and left her to her fate. Traumatized and vengeful, all she can think of is wiping out all trace of his tampering in this universe.

Maximus disagrees, pointing the remote spark-casing-control unit at her, but Jetfire tells him to let her go (he'll back up whatever story Maximus concocts for her escape), as they have precious little to lose at this point.
Trivia
* Arcee states that she was the first female Transformer experiment and it is implied she is something rare and (perhaps) unique. However nothing in the issue states that she was the only female Transformer created due to Jhiaxus's program. Indeed, in Megatron: Origin a number of female Transformers make cameo appearances. It may be that Arcee isn't completely alone and that her trauma stems more from being used, altered (perhaps against her will), and abandoned than anything else.

Errors
Items of note
* The issue contains bonus sketch art by Alex Milne, including color tests for Arcee.
* Cameos include:
**Banzaitron's crew: Axer, Roadblock, Gutcruncher, Brawl, Blast Off, Vortex, Onslaught (note that the only absent G1 Combaticon is Swindle, since he had previously appeared in Spotlight: Ultra Magnus)
**Sparks in custody: Skyjack, Bludgeon, Longtooth, Ransack, Repugnus
Onslaught is what you'd call the "hands-off" type. He doesn't enjoy getting his mits dirty, but instead prefers the thrill of designing battle plans, strategies, and tactics, and then watching his Combaticon soldiers carry them out. While he typically crafts his strategies to exclude his direct involvement, Onslaught is no coward. When required, he will engage in battle with strength, cunning and earthquaking fury. This darker, more brutish side of Onslaught might lead some Decepticons into thinking he has a secret blood-lust stashed away in his circuits. But truth be told, he's really just ticked off that his plans didn't work out the way they were supposed to.

Onslaught can combine with his fellow Combaticons to form Bruticus, who is considerably dumber than Onslaught.
Generation 1
noteukonly

Onslaught is the leader of the Combaticons, one of the Special Teams foretold by the Matrix Second Generation!. Onslaught and his team were first seen on Earth fighting the Protectobots inside the Multi-World computer game. Afterdeath!

Later on, he led his team to kill Galvatron while he was trapped in a volcano, and Onslaught was the only Combaticon not taken down by a trio of human women. He would've killed them if the Throttlebots hadn't shown up as the cavalry. Ladies' Night In response for that humiliation, Onslaught and the Combaticons hunted the Throttlebots down. The Throttlebots were trapped in a used car lot and the Combaticons were forced to bid for them in an auction against RAAT and the Protectobots, but Onslaught cut through this by trying to have the lot's owner assassinated. RAAT would get the Throttlebots and the Combaticons were beaten by Blaster. Used Autobots

Onslaught's shining moment came when he got to lead a massed Decepticon assault on the Autobots, which came close to wiping them all out. Totaled!

In the post-movie alternate timeline, he is still active in 2008 and was one of Soundwave's lieutenants when the Quintessons invaded. Space Pirates!

Generation 2
Onslaught was one of the Decepticons operating aboard Warworld. At the death of Mindset, a G2 Cybertronian killed light years away, Onslaught was briefly overcome by pain, hinting of a genetic connection between these two. Escalation He was offlined along with the entire Combaticon team by Starscream shortly thereafter, and this was never delved into. It is unknown if he was killed or later repaired. Total War

Animated continuity
:Voice actor: S. Marc Jordan, Steve Bulin (English), Yutaka Shimaka (Japanese)

Onslaught was one of several Renegade Decepticons who had been imprisoned in the Decepticon Detention Center on Cybertron for plotting against Megatron. After Starscream was booted from the Decepticon base for attempting to overthrow Megatron (again), he decided to form his own army. Travelling to Cybertron via the Space Bridge, he "liberated" renegade personality components and placed them in human military vehicles left over from Earth's second World War. At first, the newly-dubbed 'Combaticons' were hardly grateful to Starscream for their freedom until the Decepticon air commander revealed he had predicted their treachery and thus did not equip them with vital energy absorbers. Onslaught and his fellow Combaticons worked agreed to work with Starscream to overthrow Megatron on the promise of being given the vital components. Onslaught worked in capturing two Autobots, though he got into an argument with Vortex over who was responsible for the act. Later, while recharging at a power station, Starscream's brigade was confronted by the Decepticons under Megatron's command. Anticipating that Devastator might come into play, Starscream ordered Onslaught and the other Combaticons to merge into the dim-witted Bruticus. The Combaticon combiner managed to soundly defeat Devastator, but was in turn defeated by a surprise attack by Menasor. For their treachery, Megatron banished Onslaught, his comrades and Starscream in space on a desolate asteroid. Starscream's Brigade

After a falling out with Starscream, Onslaught became the mastermind of Operation Revenge and helped defeat Shockwave's forces on Cybertron. He also used his external backpack and altered the Space Bridge to send Earth into the sun. It didn't work as he was defeated by the allied Decepticons and Autobots. Then Megatron had the Combaticons, including Onslaught, reprogrammed to serve him. Poor guy, can't seem to get a break. The Revenge of Bruticus

After that little lobotomy, the Combaticons were deployed to Earth's Middle East to assist in Megatron's scheme to steal military jets, rebuild them into cars, drive them out of the owners nations, and then rebuild them back into drone jets in friendly territory. Yeah. Onslaught and the other Combaticons attacked the Aerialbots when they snooped around, managing to force Slingshot to crash into a cave (YAY!). Later, Onslaught and the ground-based Combaticons form an anti-aircraft screen against an Aerialbot attack on the Fortress, then merged into Bruticus, but was rather quickly defeated by Superion before being blown away by the exploding oil wells. Aerial Assault

Back in the United States, Onslaught led the Combaticons in driving down the road of a random city for no apparent reason until they were confronted by Defensor. Though the Combaticons formed Bruticus, they were blown to pieces by a single shot from the Autobot, with Swindle being the only survivor. Swindle later sold the parts of his comrades, but were forced to buy them back for Megatron's next Crazy Scheme. The Combaticons formed Bruticus to operate the orbital disruptor cannon, but was shot by the cannon itself when B.O.T. tampered with it. B.O.T. (episode)

By the year 2006, the Decepticons had been forced into retreat on the ruined, burned out world of Chaar. Onslaught warned first Rumble and then the Quintessons that the Decepticons would no longer be powerful enough to attack the Autobots directly. Five Faces of Darkness.

Onslaught remained a valuable and loyal soldier to Galvatron up to the very end of the American animated series. He led his Combaticons in the crafting of a giant planetary rocket engine that would be used to propel Cybertron into orbit around Earth. This engine was fueled by the reprocessed body parts of defeated Autobots. Gross. The Rebirth, Part 3

Dreamwave continuity
Onslaught unleashed his considerable firepower against the Autobots during the Decepticon assault against Iacon. The War Within He and his fellow Combaticons were later upgraded into Combiners. After the Crisis Intervention Accords were enacted, however, it is unknown if Onslaught joined up separately with any faction.

After the Great Shutdown and the peace that followed it, Onslaught and the Combaticons were labeled as war criminals and held in stasis in a penitentiary. That is, at least until Starscream freed them. Revelation

When Sunstorm appeared on Earth, the battered Combaticons were ordered by Starscream to combine into Bruticus and deal with the crazed zealot. It did not end well. Night of the Combaticons

The repaired Combaticons were brought to the Guadalcanal where they could hone their somewhat lackluster combat skills and listen to Starscream's long-winded aspirations of glory. Starscream orders them to defeat the magnificent Autobot Sky Lynx as a means to train themselves for greater battles. Unfortunately, the Combaticons do not fare well when the crafty Autobot splits into his two forms, with Onslaught nearly crushed by the Lynx's right paw as he was issuing orders. After Starscream deactivates Sky Lynx, Onslaught berated his team as buffons for not paying attention to his battle plan.

This was the least of their troubles, however, as Predaking showed up as soon after Sky Lynx shut down. Onslaught ordered his men to keep moving and maintain formation so as to remain as smaller, faster targets, then as they neared Predaking, formed Bruticus. This encounter also did not end well either.... The Route of All Evil

IDW continuity
Onslaught led the Combaticon tactical unit on a raid of the Garrus-9 penal facility, successfully blasting his way through Autobot resistance and capturing the Pretender Monsters combiner group. He was the only one not to wee himself over the pink death that is Arcee, and he openly enjoyed killing things. Spotlight: Arcee
: Onslaught transforms into a dark blue mobile anti-aircraft truck of made-up origin, armed with a large double-barrelled cannon mounted on the flatbed of his vehicle mode. He can also assume a base/gun emplacement mode with a ramp that smaller Combaticons can use. This base mode can be connected to both the Autobot city Metroplex (a feature not mentioned in either toy's instructions, for obvious reasons) and to the Decepticon city Trypticon, a feature only documented in Trypticon's instructions.

: In robot mode, Onslaught is armed with a long olive laser rifle and is accessorized by a small chest plate. He forms the central body component of Bruticus, protected by an even larger silver chest plate and Bruticus' head. He also comes with Bruticus' hands and feet.
Shockwave is a massive triple-changing Decepticon, capable of converting from his robot mode to either an artillery cannon or an Apache assault helicopter. Apparently, he's been working to oust Megatron since before Starscream got the idea. Starscream decided Shockwave will be lucky to be kept as a pet if he takes over.

It is likely that he won't get a toy, and the fandom shall indeed be pissed.

Fiction
Transformers: The Game (console)
Shockwave appears as a boss character in the Autobot campaign. Under the orders of Starscream, he attacked Tranquility, the hometown of Sam Witwicky, but was destroyed by Optimus Prime.

Shockwave also appears in the Autobots' Cybertron bonus stage. When there are only 3 Decepticons left, Shockwave is one of them. He doesn't transform in this stage (neither can the player character).

Transformers Decepticons (DS)
Shockwave is playable, after a fashion, via scanning the Attack Copter, the Recon Chopper and the Stealth Chopper. Only the Attack Chopter is able to look relatively like Shockwave, with Purple and Black as the colors. However, it's easier to make it look like this guy.
The others can be changed to a darkish blue or black, but only minor details can be made purple.

Transformers Autobots (DS)
Shockwave's body type appears as three helicopters: the Attack Copter, the Recon Chopper and the Stealth Chopper. However, the only one of the three able to become purple like Shockwave is the Attack Copter.

Transformers: The Game (PSP)
Shockwave is a playable character in the PSP version of the game. However he only has one alternate mode, which is a rail-cannon tank based on Energon Shockblast.
Jhiaxus is no ordinary Decepticon. He and his faction left Cybertron eons ago and formed a Cybertronian empire of cyberformed planets. He views the original Autobots and Decepticons as evolutionary throwbacks, simple animals, insults to his race's memory which must be wiped out. But his ice-cold demeanor of control and amoral objectivity is merely a facade. It is only a mask, a face he wears to forget the mad tyrant he once was. He has been repressing this side of himself, burying it, for millennia. Unfortunately, recent encounters with Autobots and Decepticons have been testing his resolve...

Jhiaxus is not one for improvisation. He has been denying his impulses for so long, it has weakened his ability to think on his feet in many situations. Once Jhiaxus has set a course of action, it is tough for him to diverge from his strategy.

Millions of years ago, some time after Prime and Megatron left Cybertron and crashed on Earth, Jhiaxus was born through the long-forgotten "budding" means of Transformer reproduction. The Power and the Glory At first a cruel and petty tyrant ruled by his irrational desires, Jhiaxus learned slowly to bury this part of himself beneath layers of icy control. Primal Fear! Tired of the Autobot/Decepticon conflict, Jhiaxus left his budded brethren into space, determined to begin a new Cybertronian Empire free of the war waged by those he deemed "evolutionary throwbacks." War Without End! He was anointed the rank Liege Centuro of this new Cybertronian empire by the Liege Maximo A Rage in Heaven!, and Jhiaxus began to wipe out inferior life and terraform their conquered worlds.

A decade after Prime and Megatron's war had restarted on Earth, Prime and his Autobots found out about this empire while pursuing the remnants of Bludgeon's Decepticons across the universe. Quickly therafter, Jhiaxus's ship, the Twilight, abducted them and delighted in telling Prime and Grimlock that for his side of the universe, the war had been over for millions of years and that Prime and his adversaries were embarrassments to him. Jhiaxus hoped that Prime would see the error of his ways, but he escaped in stolen ship with his fellow Autobots. However, Jhiaxus had launched a ship of his own to follow them. War Without End!

Jhiaxus traced the Autobots to the K'Tord Nebula, and his Cybertronians battled Prime's bitterly on the surface of one of its planets. Parasitic creatures on the planet began to feed on the hate and fury buried in the minds of both sides, which caused Jhiaxus to revert back to the barbaric version of himself he thought he'd long buried. Despite Prime's own problems with the parasites' induced rage, he was able to convince Jhiaxus and their respective warriors to stop fighting and leave their separate ways. Primal Fear! Jhiaxus retreated to his flagship, and thanked the maker that, as far as he knew, there were no Decepticons left of the original generation to cause him further conflict. Sadly, he was misinformed. Old Evils

When Grimlock and a bloodthirsty group of Autobots tried to sneak a Chaosmaster Bomb on board the Twilight, Jhiaxus easily saw through their ruse. He shipped the survivors in a prison ship to be examined by the Liege Maximo, but the ship was intercepted by Optimus Prime. Devices and Desires! Later, Jhiaxus made a visit to New, a recently conquered planet the Cybertronian Empire was busy eco-structuring into a Cybertron-like planet. Though the process was ahead of schedule, Jhiaxus was still disappointed. The Autobots had mysteriously halted their attacks on his empire, and their absence worried him. The Power and the Glory

One of his teams crossed paths with the original-generation Decepticons, and the incident ended badly. Jhiaxus decided to make his move, and ordered a full-scale attack on Megatron's Warworld near Tykos. This altercation resulted in casualties in Megatron's forces while Jhiaxus battled Megatron himself in orbit. Jhiaxus relished condescending to his opponent, an act reinforced by his superior might. He shot Megatron out of orbit, leaving him for dead on the moon's surface. New Dawn However, Megatron miraculously survived, and his Decepticons and the Autobots forged an uneasy alliance against the Cybertronian Empire. Increasingly frustrated, he vowed to escalate his galactic efforts, ordering that every planet be stripped of life. He hoped to force the hand of the original generation Transformers and overwhelm them, a plan that nearly worked on Ethos against the Autobots until Decepticon reinforcements arrived. Escalation! Indeed, the battle there decimated the best of Jhiaxus's forces. But Jhiaxus soon gained an unexpected advantage—Starscream sold out the location of the original generation's base of operations in exchange for a high-ranking position. Swarm (comic issue)
Jhiaxus attacked the base on Earth. Tales of Earth Part Six The headquarters itself was quickly destroyed, but Optimus and Megatron's troops fought back strongly and met the challenge equally. Jhiaxus wanted to end the conflict here and then, so he called for reinforcements from every corner of his Empire. Total War! Adding insult to injury, Jhiaxus was informed that his troops had lost the Warworld to the backstabbing Starscream. Jhiaxus lost his composure, and when he tossed his subordinate, Rook, in anger, Rook arranged a trip to the Liege Maximo. Jhiaxus returned to the Twilight, and upon receiving a transmission from Optimus Prime onboard the Warworld, he acted upon his anger by targeting a random spot on the Earth with nuclear weapons. Before Jhiaxus could order another shot, the Twilight was knocked away by a blast from the Warworld and the Swarm arrived. Dark Shadows

Despite his officers' pleas to withdraw, Jhiaxus's troops were ordered to stay their ground even as the Swarm ate its way through them effortlessly. Optimus Prime, ever trying to reach a solution, arrived on the Twilight to talk, but Jhiaxus would not have it. He threw Prime around, powered by his increasing rage, and blamed him for how his life, his empire, had disintegrated. Before he could strike the final blow, however, the Swarm broke through the bridge of the Twilight, and Jhiaxus challenged it. Jhiaxus was consumed. A Rage in Heaven!
Unicron abducted a Jhiaxus's Spark and stripped him of his rank and power. Though he once again wears the brand of an ordinary Decepticon, he still nurses a hatred towards Autobot and Decepticon alike. They are all, of course, unevolved, inferior throw-backs. While still abducted by Unicron, Jhiaxus was kept locked inside one of the chambers within the Cauldron and periodically forced to combat other Transformers so that Unicron could feed on the loser's Spark. Jhiaxus was Nova Prime's chief theoretical strategist and pioneer of gestalt technology. It is implied that he left with his leader aboard the original Ark spacecraft and subsequently was lost in the Benzuli Expanse. He created the first combiner robot, Monstructor, in an attempt to engineer the ultimate Transformer. Unfortunately, the combination process drove its members insane. They proved too volatile to remain free, and were eventually imprisoned by Omega Supreme after Jhiaxus's departure. Spotlight: Optimus Prime Amongst his other experiments was the introduction of gender to the Cybertronian genome, produced by his tampering with the CNA of Arcee, having the slight side effect of turning her psychotic. His present ministrations involve the prepping of the Nega-Core, in anticipation of the Expansion. Spotlight: Arcee

He suspects Galvatron of having his own agenda, though he admits that Galvatron serves their purposes well. The point will be moot, however, once his and Nova Prime's (now Nemesis Prime) far-reaching plans are unfurled... Devastation issue 6
* Generation 2 Jhiaxus's robot mode design seems to be based loosely on the Seekers. * In the IDW continuity, Jhiaxus' obsession with improving the Cybertronian form has led to him altering even his own body.
