The Wreckers find out that humans always get in the way.

Synopsis
Northern Oregon: A group of USAF pilots on a routine exercise are attacked by Cyclonus and Scourge, who are looking for some target practice. Although the two Decepticons down most of the fighters, Cyclonus is nearly tricked into flying into a mountain and the pair are forced to flee from a counter-attack. Scourge notes it bodes ill for their forthcoming meeting with their old commander, Galvatron.

The city-state of Kalis, Cybertron: Twin Twist is drilling the Wreckers for their forthcoming mission against Galvatron whilst Emirate Xaaron and Springer look on in concern as they will be undertaking the mission without Ultra Magnus. Deadly Games!

Earth, the Decepticon fortress base: Shockwave reflects on his recent meeting with Cyclonus and Scourge. The pair aim to defeat Galvatron and reclaim the trigger device which could return them to their own time but have asked Shockwave for sanctuary if they fail. In return, they will serve him.

Cyclonus and Scourge arrive in the middle of a human settlement, where they had arranged to meet Galvatron. Their former commander had intended to invite them to serve them and is amused to learn of their plans. Even though he no longer has the trigger device, he doesn't inform them of that fact but all their plans are interrupted by the arrival of the Wreckers through the dimensional portal. Springer is horrified to realize they have arrived in an area full of humans, fearing their mission is doomed.

Reluctantly, the Wreckers engage all three Decepticons, while Sandstorm attempts to usher the humans to safety. Broadside and Rack'n'Ruin engage Galvatron, who mentions the fact Cyclonus and Scourge were after a trigger device that no longer exists. Springer overhears the comment and, after overpowering Cyclonus and lifting a human straggler to safety, he knocks Galvatron to the ground and runs off, shouting that he has the time jump trigger. As he hoped, Scourge (who has been battling the Jumpstarters) and Cyclonus both chase after him, away from the humans. Galvatron instantly realizes what Springer is doing and tells the other Wreckers they have a choice of trying to capture him or saving their leader, who won't last long on his own against Cyclonus and Scourge.

Cyclonus and Scourge quickly take down Springer and realize he doesn't have the trigger device, at which point the other Wreckers arrive and force them to flee. Broadside notes that in the confusion Galvatron has disappeared, presumably transformed to his minuscule pistol form. Springer is forced to concede defeat, vowing to return to Cybertron and plan anew.

Errors
* Having arrived on Earth, Cyclonus and Scourge have apparently deserted their commander, Scorponok. They're never seen with his troops after the Headmasters limited series, not even in the US issues. This may be why they seek sanctuary from Shockwave, instead of their own forces... but the issue of their desertion is never directly addressed.
* On page 7 of part 1, one of Xaaron's speech bubbles is attributed to Springer.

Items of note
* Galvatron's trigger jump device was dismantled by Wreck-Gar in "Fire on High!".
* Neither Galvatron nor the Wreckers seem to be familiar with the concept of Targetmasters. This actually creates a minor continuity issue, as Rodimus Prime is shown to have been a former Targetmaster in "Headhunt", indicating that the technology existed in the Marvel UK future timeline (and that Galvatron should be familiar with it).
* The Wreckers would keep their promise to return for Galvatron in "Time Wars" (and sort of succeed, albeit with a lot of help).
* By an unspecified method of coercion, Galvatron persuades an anonymous human to carry him to his rendezvous in gun mode. This is the second of only two occasions when he is shown in this mode (the other being "Target: 2006" part 1).
* This is one of the rare stories that feature Springer using the ability his name derives from: he jumps hella high to lure Cyclonus and Scourge away from the human settlement.
Given that the cover reuses that of issue #84, depicting Galvatron and Unicron (who isn't seen in either story), it seems likely it was unchanged.
* The reprint was modified to remove a footnote explaining the absence of Ultra Magnus. It originally linked to the previous "Deadly Games!".
* The story was reprinted again in the Titan Books trade paperback, Space Pirates. The above footnote was present, suggesting the original printing was used.
Doctor Binder used to be such a mellow guy. A dentist at the Broca Medical Complex in Springfield, he had the utmost concern for his patients and their suffering. Sure he dabbled in genetics on the side, but who doesn't? As a means to ending the pain his profession caused patients, he created a machine that would block the ability of the brain to sense it. Unwilling to test it on anyone else, he hooked it up to his own impressively bald cranium. The trauma for the device caused a radical personality shift and a disdain for wearing shirts. Now he was Doctor Mindbender, Cobra genius.
At the time Megatron was forming his brief alliance with Cobra, Dr. Mindbender was dead, but Cobra was using Mindbender's own technology to clone a new doctor. Megatron's sensors detected Mindbender's heart had re-started. Upon his return to life, the doctor was shocked at the appearance of Michael Jackson and that a Democrat was President. Dr. Mindbender helped reprogram the Transformer to be used as vehicles for Cobra. When Hiss-14's exhibited resistance to Cobra's control, the Doctor took it upon himself to track to hack the robot's brain. Mindbender was part of a group of Joes and Cobra who were transported to Cybertron in an attempt to steal Teletran 3, but an explosive malfunction led to a catastrophe involving time travel and the mutual destruction of both Earth and Cybertron. Stormbringer, or the Magnus Hammer, is the Autobot artifact of leadership that is currently borne by Ultra Magnus. It has the power to summon lightning from the sky, to devastating effect. While the Supreme Commander can choose to use something else as their actual weapon, they must have the Hammer in their possession somewhere to be considered the official Magnus.
Fiction
Animated cartoon
Long before the Great War, the Magnus Hammer was used to forge the AllSpark Container, and became a symbol of Autobot leadership.
Later, as the double agent Longarm Prime/Shockwave grew closer to being found out, he attacked Ultra Magnus directly and stole Stormbringer as he fled. Where Is Thy Sting?

This Is Why I Hate Machines
Afterwards, Shockwave attempted to use the Magnus Hammer to defeat Ratchet in order to proceed with his plans to abduct Arcee so the Decepticons could gain the control codes for Omega Supreme. Ratchet managed to reclaim the Magnus Hammer, but failed to stop Shockwave. Sentinel Prime demanded that Ratchet give him the Magnus Hammer, but the Autobot medic refused and, stating that he would return it to the REAL Magnus, Ultra Magnus, disappeared through the space bridge back to Earth before Sentinel could do anything about it. This Is Why I Hate Machines
*Ultra Magnus (Leader, 2008)

: The Leader-class Ultra Magnus toy (naturally) comes with a Stormbringer hammer accessory that fits snugly in the back end of the vehicle mode, once the hammer-heads are compressed and the handle folded up. Unfortunately, necessities of toy design mean the handle does not reach the ground when held in Magnus's hand.

*Roadbuster Ultra Magnus (Leader, 2009)

: Just as Ultra Magnus was redecoed in brown, orange and green, so too was Stormbringer. It retains all of the (minimal) functionality of the original version.

Notes
* The hammer has only been referred to as the "Magnus Hammer" in the cartoon. The box-back bio for the "Roadbuster" version of Magnus gave the hammer its "Stormbringer" name.
* Appropriatly enough, since Ultra Magnus is a rather obvious homage to the Æsir Thor, Stormbringer is similiar to the name of Marvel Comic's Thor's best buddy's hammer Stormbreaker.
In 2003, Simmons led a team of Sector 7 agents in an attempt to capture Bumblebee, then known as NBE-2. Prime Directive (IDW) issue 3 The attempt involved luring him into a trap using an artificial isotope derived from the sub-atomic matter of the cube, which put out an almost identical energy signature to that of the cube. After the team spent two days waiting in the New Mexico desert, Bumblebee appeared, followed by the Decepticons Barricade, Blackout, and Starscream. Thanks to the Decepticons, who destroyed several Apache helicopters and tried to hack into Sector 7's network, Simmons's plan to capture Bumblebee failed horribly. Prime Directive (IDW) issue 4

Agent Simmons went to the Witwicky residence when Sector Seven suspected that Sam Witwicky had contact with an N.B.E. they were tracking. Taking Sam and Mikaela Banes into custody, he got too into the bad cop role, threatening Sam with life imprisonment, threatening Mikaela's father's parole, and revealing Mikaela's own criminal record. This strategy nearly succeeded...until a seriously pissed off Optimus Prime decided to pay Sam and Mikaela's bail—by jumping right in front of their SUV, lifting it off the ground, and tearing the roof off. Although Simmons tried to call for calm, the Autobots easily disarmed the agents. To Simmons' credit, he himself remained calm, while the guy on the left looked like he was going to wet himself.

Prime attempted to interrogate Simmons, who revealed that the only communication he was authorized to have with the NBEs was to tell them he wasn't authorized to communicate with them. He also refused to answer any questions from Sam and Mikaela about Sector Seven or how they knew of the Autobots. Annoyed by his attitude, Bumblebee released lubricant on him. As the Autobots left, Mikaela had Simmons strip as punishment for threatening her father. However, Bumblebee, Sam, and Mikaela were later recaptured.

After arriving at Hoover Dam (and presumably the longest shower of his life), Agent Simmons, in a new, clean, and higher-in-authority uniform, and trying the awkward role of good cop, told Sam and Mikaela that they may have gotten off on the wrong foot. Taking them to see the Mega Man, Simmons was told of Megatron's plans by Sam. However, Frenzy had infiltrated the dam and sent a message to the Decepticons, causing Starscream to attack. Sam urged Simmons to release Bumblebee, saying he would help, but Simmons stubbornly refused. Captain Lennox decided to apply some armed persuasion, which Simmons still refused to heed, leading to a standoff between the rangers and Sector Seven agents. The rangers won. After Bumblebee reformatted the Cube, Simmons, Secretary Keller, Maggie Madsen, and Glen Whitmann went to the dam's archives, where they managed to send out an S.O.S. via an old radio in there, while Keller and Simmons provided cover fire from an attacking Frenzy. Transformers (2007)
Simmons, Banachek and John Keller were on their way to Mission City when Starscream attacked Hoover Dam. The Reign of Starscream issue 2

Arriving shortly after the battle in Mission City, Simmons asked William Lennox and Robert Epps to join Sector Seven; they agreed after Sam inadvertently called Epps while in conversation with Simmons, which sort of ruined Lennox's excuse. The next day, Simmons informed Professor Vine that he had one month to study the defeated Decepticons before they were dumped in the Laurentian Abyss. He also suggested they wake up "sleeping beauty" to see if he had anything to offer. When the scientist worried that Wreckage couldn't be re-activated, especially not since Salazar was lost, Simmons called Lennox, saying the soldier had friends that could "make him" wake up. Alliance issue 1

Before the Autobots arrived at the Nevada desert facility to escort the convoy carrying the Decepticon bodies away, Simmons agreed with Vine about having to dump the Decepticons into the sea, grousing that the aliens turned a city into a battleground and now they have to throw a treasure trove of information away. While they reminisced about how Salazar was able to learn from Wreckage and create the L.M.-1 units, Simmons was dismissive and callous about the sentience of the Cybertronians, refusing to refer to Wreckage by his name, preferring to call him N.B.E.-3. At Optimus Prime's behest, Vine took the surviving All Spark sliver for safekeeping, fearing it might reactivate the dead Megatron.
Simmons and Salani persuaded Vine to take the sliver underground to hide it from any Decepticons that might still be skulking about, but as soon as they entered the main holding chamber, the sliver flew out of Simmons' hands and revived Wreckage. Wreckage rampaged through the base, destroying the L.M.-1s and fighting Starscream in a struggle leading to numerous deaths. Alliance issue 2 While secretly taking Frenzy's head, which had fallen out of Starscream's cockpit, Simmons was left to wonder about the Transformers' sense of morality before being relieved of his duties by John Keller. Alliance issue 3
