Wreck-Gar is the leader of the Junkions, a tribe (or possibly race) of junk-robot Transformers who call the planet Junkion "home sweet home". Like all Junkions, Wreck-Gar's speech is a hodge-podge mish-mash of phrases taken from Earth broadcasting, especially television, which has become the focal point of Junkion culture. He is generally suspicious of strangers, but once he considers you a friend, he's a steadfast and selfless individual. He oversees his people's daily activities of "sorting" through their planet's collection of scrap, though what basis they use to sort the material has yet to be identified. He seems to have some sort of relationship with a Junkion lady named Nancy.

In battle, Wreck-Gar is easy to knock down, but near-impossible to keep down, thanks to the very unique physiology of the Junkions. He tends to lose pieces easily when he takes damage, but he can repair that damage with lightning speed, and it's possible that even if he's reduced to a pile of parts it's only a short time before he's back on his feet again swinging his axe. This rapid-healing ability reaches almost instantaneous speed on his home planet of Junk, or anywhere he can get his hands on scrap metal. Many would-be conquerors have mistaken the Junkions for harmless idiots. Most of them are currently scattered across the rusted surface of Junk.

At first Wreck-Gar views the Autobots as thieves and enemies. Attacking without warning after Ultra Magnus' 'death', Wreck-Gar and his fellow Junkions soon learn that they were wrong. Wreck-Gar fights Springer for a while, before being taken down by Daniel Witwicky, with a steel bar to the back of the head.

Following their defeat and the arrival of Hot Rod, Kup, Wheelie and the Dinobots--and subsequent pacification with the Universal Greeting, Wreck-Gar has the Junkions rebuild Ultra Magnus, and dance with the Autobots to "Weird Al" Yankovic (who would ironically go on to portray him in Transformers Animated) until they decide maybe they should protect Cybertron from Unicron after all.

After boogieing down for an unspecified amount of time, the Junkions reveal their rather cruddy-looking ship to the Autobots and prepare to "destroy Unicron, kill the Grand Poobah, and eliminate even the toughest stains".

The Junkions, like pretty much everyone else, didn't fare well against Unicron. Their ship managed to last longer than most in the battle, proving to be highly resistant to Unicron's fire-breath (due in part certainly to the Junkions' rapid-repair skills), but was ultimately crushed by Unicron's hand... though its passengers apparently lived.

Wreck-Gar survived as did Perceptor, appearing with the rest of Rodimus Prime's Autobot team on Cybertron. Though he returned to Junkion after Unicron's defeat, he remained a reliable ally for the Autobots afterwards.

He is one of the few beings in the galaxy who likes clowns.

Marvel Comics continuity
:(Note: Events in italics occurred only in the Marvel UK books.)

After the destruction of Unicron, Wreck-Gar remained on Cybertron for a time and helped the Autobots regain control of the planet while attempting to fend off Decepticon attacks under the new command of Shockwave. When Rodimus Prime planned a time travel adventure to end the threat posed by former Decepticon commander, Galvatron, Wreck-Gar decided to come along and lept into the time-jump effect at the last second, causing his landing vector to be significantly displaced away from his fellow traveller. Stumbling across the deactivated body of Bumblebee by chance, Wreck-Gar put his considerable mechanical talents to work and rebuilt the scrapped Autobot into a new form as Goldbug. The two then joined Wreck-Gar allies and the present-day Ultra Magnus in an attempt to stop Galvatron's schemes. Wreck-Gar managed to get ahold of Galvatron's time-jump mechanism, and planned to jerry-rig the device to permanently send all the time travellers back to 2007. His recalibrations failed, though, and the Autobots returned to the future while Galvatron remained in the past.

Still, Wreck-Gar had proven himself a worthy ally, and Rodimus gave him an official escort back to the planet of Junk and his people. Upon arriving home, however, Wreck-Gar stumbled into a plot by the Dark God himself, Unicron, to co-opt the planet Junk as a new body. It seems Unicron's head had blown free when his original body was destroyed by the Matrix, and it drifted into range of the planetoid. Unicron's vast mental powers enabled him to enslave the entire Junkion people, and Wreck-Gar was forced to "cancel" one of his fellow Junkions while making his escape, an act he swore Unicron would pay dearly for. After escape another of Unicron's mind-pawns named Death's Head, Wreck-Gar gathered a large quantity of explosions directly underneath Unicron's head and set them to blow. He managed to destroy what was left of Unicron's body just as Rodimus Prime contained the Chaos-Bringer's living essence within the confines of the Matrix, ending his threat for the moment.

Sometime later, by sheer cosmic chance, Wreck-Gar came into possession of a Quintesson journal, a message cannister containing details of their plans to leave the dying planet Quintessa and colonize other mechanical worlds, including Cybertron. When he attempted to bring this information to Rodimus Prime and the Autobots, Wreck-Gar was intercepted en route by the Quintessons and taken captive. They tried to torture the location of the cannister out of him, but all they got was total nonsense. Managing to escape, Wreck-Gar hooked up with an Autobot spy named Wheelie, and the two of them blasted off from Quintessa. After eluding his pursuers, Wreck-Gar met up with some of his fellow Junkions and rigged the message cannister so that its contents were broadcast across the universe. Instantly, all the potential colony worlds were alerted and forewarned of the possibility of a Quintesson invasion, and overnight the Quints became one of the most hated and hunted races in all the galaxies, throwing all their future plans into turmoil.
Battle on the Junk Planet
When an Autobot shuttle is forced to land on The Junk Planet for repairs, Blurr catches the attention of Wreck-Gar. Wreck-Gar is impressed by Blurr's powerful engine... and decides he wants it! He attacks the Autobots with a horde of Junkions, intent on hacking the still-sputtering engine from Blurr's body, and fights Springer in the process.

The misunderstanding comes to an end when Kup, an old hand at negotiating with natives, locates their missing shuttle and instead engages the Junkions in a barter session, trading weapons and energon. The Junkions wave as their new friends depart with all their parts intact.

Blackthorn Comics continuity
Dreamwave comics continuity
Wreck-Gar found the chassis of the near-dead Megatron floating in space, where it had been abandoned by Starscream while on a supply run. Wreck-Gar brought Megatron back on-line, and even salvaged several Air Warrior drone bodies from the surface of Junk for him so he could reclaim his position as leader of the Decepticons. For his efforts, Megatron stabbed Wreck-Gar through the chest.

(Note: Dreamwave declared bankruptcy before many of its plot threads could be resolved. Due to the Junkions' rapid-repair, very-hard-to-kill physiology, it seems unlikely that Wreck-Gar was a fatality.)

Transformers Legends anthology
"Collect and Save" by Tim Waggoner

When the Recyclons arrived on Junk, intending to convert the planet into energon for their overseers the Harvest Lords of Sigrath, Wreck-Gar apprached the leader Salvage, and got two blaster bolts in the chest. After a near-instantaneous repair job, Wreck-Gar called out his fellows and swarmed the Recyclons, severely damaging them and forcing them to retreat to their ship the Reclamation and lift off.

Salvage returned to the planet's surface, leaving the Reclamation in orbit, in order to make peace with Wreck-Gar. But it was all a ruse; Salvage slapped a device on Wreck-Gar, a more powerful version of the Junkion leader's own decelerator laser, preventing him from attacking or calling his people while the orbiting Recyclons fired a beam from the Prime Processing Unit to convert the planet to energon from space. However, Wreck-Gar proved even stronger than Salvage expected, and he called the Junkions to fire a tractor beam at the Reclamation, sending it crashing into Junk seconds before the Prime Processing Unit activated, causing the ship to explode. Salvage himself lived only a few seconds more than his fellows, as the Junkions closed in on him immediately afterwards.
: Japanese ID number: C-81

: Wreck-Gar's only toy transforms into a Cybertronic "junk" motorcycle, and is noteworthy for being one of the earliest uses of ball-and-socket joints in the Transformers toy line. The original toy commercial portrayed him as a Decepticon, presumably to keep with the theme of the movie and not spoil a surprise... even though the toy was always labelled and packaged as an Autobot.

: Unfortunately, two Wreck-Gar toys are completely incapable of riding one another, unlike the action depicted in the movie.

A "super deformed" mini-figure of Wreck-Gar was created as part of the second wave of MyClone Transformers in Japan. These toys could be disassembled and their parts mixed-and-matched thanks to a generic base body. In Wreck-Gar's case, this is especially appropriate.

Trivia
* In Wreck-Gar's starring toy commercial, he is voiced by Frank Welker rather than Tony Pope.

* For nearly 20 years, Wreck-Gar was the only Junkion toy, until the creation of the e-Hobby exclusive Detritus.

:Wreck-Gar is an Autobot-allied Junkion from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Following their defeat and the arrival of Hot Rod, Kup, Wheelie and the Dinobots--and subsequent pacification with the Universal Greeting, Wreck-Gar has the Junkions rebuild Ultra Magnus, and dance with the Autobots to "Weird Al" Yankovic (who would ironically go on to portray him in Transformers: Animated) until they decide maybe they should protect Cybertron from Unicron after all.

The Predacons use Side Burn's appetites against him.
Detailed synopsis
It all starts with with Sideburn chasing down a weird looking red car. Prowl tries to stop them but loses them. Sideburn follows the car into a junkyard and is shocked and upset that the red car was atcully Megatron. (which brings up an interesting point, does Sideburn care about the cars gender?) The Predacons apparently know about his taste in cars and used it to trick him. Sideburn is then captured by the Predacons and is now part of their evil plan.
The next day Optimus and Sideburn's brothers are all worried when he didn't check in and go out to serch for him. They are stopped by the Predacons who leave a message that if they want to see Sideburn again Optimus had to go get him alone. Optimus decides to go against the wishes of his soldiers who know it's a trap.
Meanwhile Koji is with his friend and friend's father at a car crushing facility. The Predacons attack and order them to leave. As they run, Koji spots Sideburn as their prisoner and stays to see if he can help. Inside the Predacons tell Sideburn their plot. They were going to use Sideburn to lure Optimus into a trap and then hand him over to Megatron.
Back at the base Prowl and X-Brawn convince TAI to send the Spychangers to help Optimus. The two brothers decide to help out by going in disguise. Sadly it doesn't seems that Prowl hasn't any imagination (he's wearing a NO ENTRY bib and holding a NO ENTRY sign while asking his brother to guess who he was) and X-Brawn tells him that it was the dumbest disguise he had ever seen. Thankfully X-Brawn had imagination but no taste, he and Prowl were in vehicle mode but covered in goofy looking paint jobs.
Meanwhile the Predacons are curious as to why Sideburn is into red sport cars. Sideburn then tells a woeful tale when he was a classic blue sports car and how he met a classic red sports
car, but after a tragic accident Sideburn was left all alone. Now the Predacons are all feeling sorry for him, including the part when Sideburn was just a tricycle and how he met a red tricycle. Of corse Skybite reminds them that Sideburn was from Cybertron and was never a classic blue sports car or a tricycle.
Optimus finally arrives and, even though Sideburn tried to warn him, is captured in Energon ropes. Outside, Prowl and X-Brawn arrive and witness Megatron arriving. Thankfully he doesn't notice them and goes inside the building. Inside, Skybite hands over Optimus in which Megatron uses this moment to use the helpless Autobot leader as a punching bag. (that's low, even for you Megatron!!)
Outside Prowl and X-Brawn needed a plan to help their brother and leader. They spot Koji and contact him through his phone. Prowl asks him to switch on the magnectic machine so he could get into the building unnoticed. As the machine lifts him into the air the Predacons all agree that Prowl was one ugly car. As Prowl lands on the convyer belt he transforms and blast the machine which powered the Energon ropes freeing Optimus and Sideburn. The Spychangers suddenly show up and Optimus and Sideburn decide that it's time for payback. After defeating the Predacons Sideburn apoligises and said he'll never chase a red sports car again. Sadly the moment he promises this a red sports car wizzes by and he tails it scraming that he thinks his in love.

Transtech was originally planned as the follow-up to the Beast Machines toy-line and cartoon.

Fiction
Story-wise, not much is known. It likely would have picked up on technorganic Cybertron following the events of Beast Machines. A Mainframe CGI animated series to support the line was likely in the discussion stage at some point.

Toyline
The characters transformed into Cybertronic vehicles that in many cases had animal-like features/deco. Cheetor was a Cybertronic race-car with a cheetah-like paint job, for instance, and Prime (confusingly invoking Optimus Primal) was a truck whose front end looked like an ape's face. Designs were done by Draxhall Jump and had somewhat less traditional robot modes (Cheetor had large hoop "wheels" for shoulders and feet, for instance) and didn't always resemble older versions of the character very closely. The overall aesthetic being somewhere in between Beast Machines odder moments and the new 2007 movie designs. Many of these designs were first shown at Botcon 2002 (apparently without Hasbro permission as they were pulled down from the booth halfway through the show) and then subsequently available online.

The line would have included characters carried over from Beast Machines:

*Blackarachnia
*Cheetor
*Nightscream
*Silverbolt

returning Beast Wars character:

*Depth Charge

returning Generation 1 characters:

*Optimus Prime
*Shockwave
*Starscream
*Soundwave

and at least one new character

*Immorticon

Design sketches for a Megatron and a Scavenger of uncertain identity also exist. There are also rumors of a Dinobot transtech that was being developed.

The toyline got to the early hard-copy prototype stage, and some prototypes, including Cheetor, Starscream, and Prime, have surfaced. None of them apparently reached a stage of production where real usable molds were created, and so future release is extremely unlikely.

Cancellation
The reasons for Transtech's cancellation remain unknown for certain, though over the years a number of possible reasons have been speculated, among them: negative fan reaction to Beast Machines, conflict with Mainframe, difference with Takara, or simply a desire to go in a new direction. The most likely explanation is not a singular culprit, but a number of corresponding culprits, perhaps culminating in the closing of Hasbro's Cincinnati offices and departures of staff, followed by the subsequent relocation to Hasbro's central offices in Rhode Island.

The cancellation of Transtech lead to the Japanese "Car Robots" cartoon and toyline being imported as a stopgap measure while Hasbro and Takara began to work together to jointly create and launch the Armada line.
