Strange things are afoot in North Korea.

Synopsis
A television news anchor reports that spy satellites show that North Korea is manufacturing energon. Their intent is unknown, although it has left the United States uneasy, as prior to the Cybertronian conflict on Earth, North Korea had been moving towards attaining nuclear weapons.

In the Korean Demilitarized Zone, Onslaught drives through the fence separating the North and the South and starts to attack South Korean soldiers. He is struck by a shell from a tank, but the tank is vaporized by another tank—who transforms, revealing himself to be Brawl. Jet fighters scrambled to attack the invaders are cut down in the air by Vortex, who transforms and joins the others on the ground. Onslaught radios his boss, Kim Jong Du, and reports that the battle is over. Kim, at the head of a large North Korean military force, is pleased, claiming that Seoul will be theirs in hours at this rate.

At Skywatch headquarters, Spike Witwicky reflects that it was inevitable that North Korea would collaborate with the Decepticons. He consults Joe Henderson about the specifics of the situation, but Henderson is unable to reveal anything beyond that there is one further Combaticon in play that has not been sighted yet, and that the North Koreans have seventeen energon production facilities.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the base, Ratchet is explaining to a Skywatch engineer the internal workings of the Cybertronians, using a relaxed Cliffjumper as an example. Jetfire expresses his hesitancy to Bumblebee about giving their knowledge to the humans, but Bumblebee replies that not only have the humans given them similar access to human information, they've also supplied the Autobots with all the energon they need. Spike enters the room, asking to speak to the leader of the Autobots and deciding that Optimus Prime is a better option after Jetfire, Ratchet and Cliffjumper all gesture to Bumblebee.

Spike finds Optimus Prime sitting in the now-open cell where he was previously detained, which he claims helps him to think. He requests for Prime's help in dealing with the Combaticons, who are more organized and powerful than any Decepticon they've had to bring in before. Bumblebee accepts his request, but before he can assemble a team, Campolongo bursts in to tell them that the President is making a live address.

The President says that there has been an act of aggression from North Korea towards the South, and that Cybertronians were involved on the side of the aggressors. He then declares that any nation collaborating with Cybertronians or using their technology will be considered to be in possession of weapons of mass destruction. Spike is aware of the problems this causes for him and the Autobots, and as the address ends, Spike orders that everyone act as if the base was under communications blackout and no one had heard the address. He then continues preparing for the mission.
Notes
* Onslaught's license plate reads "D-64", the Japanese ID number of his original toy.
* The North Korean leader in this issue, Kim Jong Du, while being said to be the son of Kim Jong Il, is clearly based off Il's likeness. The American President, however, looks nothing like Barack Obama.
* Henderson reveals that the North Koreans have been producing enough energon for five Cybertronians to consume, though future issues make it clear that not all five Combaticons are together, only the ones featured in this issue. Perhaps they were making extra energon just in case.
* Almost all of the Transformers have changed bodies again between issues. For the first time in a very, very long time, they are drawn to the specifications of their original Generation 1 character models, with only slight variations for necessity (Ratchet, for instance, sports electrocardiogram graphics on his shoulders instead of his traditional Red Cross symbols). Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are the exceptions, with the former in a Dery-ized version of his recent Don Figueroa design, and the latter in a cross between his Dodge Challenger body Don Figueroa used in issue 6 and Chee Yang Ong's simplified take of it seen at the conclusion of his mini-series, plus various elements lifted from an unused Don Figueroa design shown on the alternate cover of issue 5 (which is also the design used for Cliffjumper in the first few issues of the ongoing). This was after an artistic error depicted him in his traditional Volkswagen body in his last appearance.
* Just like with issue #8, Guido shared a little info on IDW boards about drawing this issue. He said: "Actually at first I was using Don's designs, then I was asked to do my own thing. Because of that and other reasons almost half of #9 pages have been re-drawn from scratch or heavily patched with changes. This didn't happen with #10-12, you'll see."

:Straxus is a Decepticon from the Generation 1 continuity family.

A ruthless, fearmongering dictator, Lord High Governor Straxus is a threat to all under his rule—including his own inner circle. From his throne in Darkmount, there are none in Polyhex who do not feel his crushing influence. Straxus's word is law, unbound by reason or facts, and can and will change from thought to thought. Do not try to appeal to his sense of pity; he has none.

A brutal powerhouse, he is more than able to enforce his policies, usually with a deadly blow from his battle axe. So terrible is Straxus that even Megatron gives the dictator his space, allowing the small-minded tyrant to terrorize his corner of the globe. Megatron may have designs on the galaxy, but in Polyhex, Straxus rules.

He is sometimes known as Darkmount. After his conversion to Power Core Combiner technology, he took the code name Rollermaster. In this new form, he commands a Targetmaster partner with the familiar name of Spanner
Marvel Comics continuity
Marvel Generation 1 comics
noteukonly

Following the assassination of the Decepticon warlord Trannis by the Autobot commando unit, the Wreckers, Straxus assumed his position as Decepticon leader on Cybertron. Cybertron: The Middle Years!

Straxus would oversee a horrifically brutal reign, having his men hunt down neutrals, Autobots, and the destitute so they could be melted down in smelting pools and their metal reused by the Decepticons. Even other Decepticons weren't safe from his brutality, with him battering his own Executive Officer Shrapnel when he was in a mood.

When a Decepticon transmission beamed from the planet Earth circa the Earth year 1985 reached Cybertron, Straxus immediately arranged for the capture of the scientist Spanner so that a space bridge between the worlds could be constructed. Attempting to locate Spanner, the Autobot spy Scrounge learned of this plot, but was captured by Shrapnel and brought before Straxus, who maliciously destroyed his unique recording-device arm before consigning him to death in the smelting pools. In turn, Blaster came searching for Scrounge (against orders), was captured and brought before Straxus, and sentenced to the pools. There he discovered the dying Scrounge, was given the information he had acquired, and escaped with the aid of his Autobot friends who had come looking for him (against orders). The Smelting Pool!

The space bridge was subsequently completed, but its earliest tests reduced Straxus to rage when a malfunction caused the death of Crosscut, and he sent another unfortunate to instant death in an attempt to figure out what had gone wrong. In an act of petty brutality, he threatened Shrapnel that he better sort the problem out soon because he was going to be sent to clear the rubbish off the Bridge! As the tests went on, an Autobot raiding party planted explosives within Darkmount, destroying it, and sending an enraged Straxus after their heads. With the bridge unattended, Blaster intended to destroy it, but was confronted by Straxus in a one-on-one duel. Crippling Blaster with his axe, Straxus was duped into accidentally severing the bridge's fuel line, destabilizing its teleporting arch, through which Blaster then kicked Straxus, destroying him. The Bridge to Nowhere!

However, while Straxus's body was reduced to ash, his head was salvaged and placed in a life-support pod that allowed him to continue on in his position as leader. ...The Harder They Die! Soon after, when Megatron arrived on Cybertron, Straxus immediately set in motion a scheme to restore himself to life, calmly following Megatron's directions to hunt down Optimus Prime, who had arrived on the planet with him. Under Fire! After Prime carried out several successful raids alongside the Wreckers, Megatron began to grow more and more unstable, and Straxus more and more impatient with his deranged houseguest. Despite the warnings of his technicians as to the "unpredictability" of the machinery involved, Straxus made the final step, activating a device that would exchange his and Megatron's minds, giving him a body once more. Megatron resisted the transfer, however, leaving the two minds within Megatron's body, fighting for dominance, each one in control at a different moment. The other Decepticons, in particular Ratbat, soon noticed their leader's problems and began to scheme about how to handle it. When in battle with Prime and Ultra Magnus, Megatron prepared to unleash his destructive antimatter powers; in order to save the Polyhex Decepticon stronghold, Ratbat activated the space bridge, teleporting the three Transformers back to Earth. Resurrection!

Before this could occur, having failed to oust Megatron's mind, Straxus activated his contingency plan, "Project Re-Birth," and his consciousness fled into a body he had specially prepared—a duplicate of Megatron created from a "hapless trooper", complete with a copy of his brain patterns, beneath which Straxus's personality lay dormant. Two Megatrons! Upon hearing of the true Megatron's seeming death aboard the space bridge a short time later, the project technicians activated the clone, sending it to the sewers beneath London where it came into conflict with a small group of Autobots, Action Force and Centurion. Straxus's mind had yet to take over the clone at this point, and it genuinely believed itself to be the true Megatron, but it was soon dealt with when an oil tank explosion sent it and Centurion tumbling into the Thames river. Ancient Relics!

Some time later, seeking a weapon to use against the deranged future Decepticon Galvatron, Shockwave recovered the Megatron clone, also believing it to be the genuine article, only to find that "Megatron"'s mind had retreated into itself. Shockwave subjected the clone to the psycho-probe, intending to force "Megatron" to face his fears—but instead, Straxus emerged, intending to fight Megatron's fears for him and finally take control of the body. Megatron fought back, however, ripping the mental image of Straxus to pieces and finally taking over their shared mind. Salvage!

This Megatron killed Cyclonus in a test run Dry Run! and then proceeded to battle Galvatron, but ceased his attack after hearing from the future Decepticon that: a) Stasrcream would throw him out a ship in 2006, and b) Galvatron would kill him. Amused and seeing the two had a lot in common, Megatron agreed to join him. Altered Image! He helped Galvatron battle Autobots of the present and future in the "Time Wars", massacring Wreckers and the Mayhem Attack Squad, but was soon put off by the growing madness and pointless destruction that his ally was causing. The Megatron clone opted instead to return to Cybertron. Time Wars

On Cybertron, he effortlessly dethroned the decadent ruling Triumverate and took control of the Decepticons on the planet once more... ruling confident in the knowledge he'd become Galvatron, and this time he'd do things right! The Fall and Rise of the Decepticon Empire.

Soon, however, he began to suffer from nightmarish visions of the lives lived by both the trooper whose body became his, and of Straxus, just as the true Megatron—having recovered his memories after a period of wandering amensia in the Dead End—attacked his base. Mind Games The two Megatrons battled, with the true one revealed the clone's nature to him, and all at once, everything made sense to the clone. Along with this revelation, another immediately arose—Straxus's mental defeat was a sham, and he had been dwelling within the clone's mind all along, steadily growing in power as the clone weakened. Straxus made one final attempt to seize control of their mind, and the clone committed suicide, blowing his own head off with his fusion cannon, rather than allow Straxus to win. Two Megatrons!

It is possible that in the original un-altered pre-Time Wars timeline, the Straxus-Megatron clone may have been the Megatron transformed into Galvatron, but the shifting nature of the timelines makes this open to debate at best.

All very simple, isn't it?

Marvel UK future timelines
The Megatron clone would terrify a young Hot Rod in 1990 by willingly risking the lives of loyal Decepticons to flush out a double-agent, and then muse it would've been easier to just murder everyone. Later, he would wage a Decepticon Civil War against Shockwave and Scorponok Aspects of Evil! , where he no longer threw fits at his troops because he knew he could look forward to a future as the unbeatable Galvatron. Trigger-Happy!

During Straxus's rule over Polyhex, he put a lowly, unknown warrior through an excruciating rebuilding process, tortuously reforging him into the very image of Optimus Prime. Through forcible data uploads and brainwashing, the Decepticon was imbued with memories and skills culled from many sources, giving him much of Optimus Prime's knowledge and combat algorithms. However, Straxus perished before he could complete this "Nemesis Prime", and his creation was left without a framework with which to process the mental injections. ==Notes==

*For some reason, Straxus's colors changed drastically between the two issues he was in for the US comic. Also, sometimes between panels.
*With that in mind, Darkmount's color scheme (with its red biceps and gold chest) is based on an amalgam of his appearances. Specifically, a unique color arrangement that appeared on the cover of the fan-publication "The Obscure Omnibus" that super-fan Monzo gave the Transformers team for reference.
*Not only was Straxus's color scheme unstable, but so was his weapon design. In his first issue, it looked like a pick-axe, but when Straxus battled Blaster in his second issue, it had evolved into a scythe.
*According to Hasbro copy writer Forest Lee, Straxus was mentioned in Comic-Con 2008 Nemesis Prime's bio entirely to make David Willis happy. Incidentally, Willis colored the cover to the fan publication mentioned in the second note, so he's probably on Cloud Nine right now.
*Darkmount's instructions show Skullgrin's robot head. It's becoming a trend.
*Universe Nemesis Prime's backstory was certainly inspired by the Megatron-clone plot, but their relation to each other in-fiction is unclear. A straight reading would suggest that Straxus merely had more than one clone project in the works. However, if one assumes that the Classic Series bios are meant to follow the Classics comic, then Nemesis Prime would be Straxus's ONLY known clone project in his universe, since the UK comics are not part of that continuity. However, it wouldn't be the first time a UK-only plot thread managed to make it into a Classics-related product...
*It's likely that Eric Holmes didn't consult with Simon Furman when he had Straxus as a cameo in Megatron Origin. (Straxus must have been mentioned in the script, since he shows up in Marcelo Matere's version of the page.) Since he was never mentioned by name in Origin, and he has a different design in the later Spotlights, it can be easily retconned that the character in Megatron Origin was "Straxus's brother", since Straxus was supposedly in the Dead Universe at this time.
* Rollermaster's bio notes do not explicitly say he's Straxus, but... come on. Plus, the guy who wrote the bio and story and all that said he is.
He asked them to join the Axalons crew, but they declined because of some other mysterious purpose that they couldn't elaborate on. Wolfang and the others asked Rattrap to keep their existence a secret, and he acquiesced. Ain't No Rat

Wolfang was one of the protoforms left behind by the crew of the Axalon on prehistoric Earth. He was activated and put in chronal phase by Razorbeast at Magmatron's request, but was protected from Magmatron's Predacon shell-program by Razorbeast's viral code. The Gathering issue 1 He was one of the first Maximals Razorbeast hooked up with, and accompanied him in his quest to obtain a transwarp signal amplifier from the wreckage of Ravage's ship. They had a short scuffle with Magmatron, but managed to escape while Optimus Minor and Snarl secured the signal amplifier. The Gathering issue 2 The Maximals' attempt to use the amplifier to send a distress call to Cybertron was interrupted by a full-scale Predacon attack, and Wolfang and the others were boxed-in. Luckily, they were saved by timely reinforcements led by Torca. The Gathering issue 4

Still stranded on Earth weeks later, Razorbeast expressed frustration to Wolfang and Prowl II about the current situation and doubt that rescue was ever going to arrive. Wolfang tried to point out the positive, stating that they had beaten the Predacons before and had Grimlock on their side. Only a short time later, the Predacons staged another assault on the Maximals' base-camp. The Ascending issue 1 On the verge of being overwhelmed, the Maximals were once again saved by a timely intervention; this time by Lio Convoy and the Pack. The battle was halted, however, when Rartorata arrived and infected Razorbeast with a dose of Angolmois venom. The Ascending issue 2 Driven berserk by the infection, the feral Razorbeast forced the Maximals and Predacons to work together to both contain him and fight the new Blendtron threat. Lio Convoy and Ravage quickly gathered a portion of their combined forces to return to Cybertron in hopes of preventing the ascension of the mad demi-god Shokaract. Wolfang was among those who went back. The Ascending issue 3 However, upon return to his home planet, Wolfang was engulfed in one of Shokaract's powerful blasts and killed fighting alongside K-9 and Insecticon. The Ascending issue 4
* Wolfang was originally to be the first new character to join the Beast Wars cartoon. However, that role was instead filled by Tigatron, due to the fact that Tigatron's animation model is a tweak of the already-in-cartoon Cheetor model, thereby saving Mainframe a buttload of time and money.
After Dreamwave collapsed, IDW picked up the project and Simon Furman reworked the original plan into The Gathering; as a result, the three new Maximals from Dreamwave's story figured prominently into IDW's first limited series.

So it is! I was thinking Primon came first.

I'm feeling entirely too lazy to think up how to integrate it into the existing text, but it'd be important to mention that DK's "Ultimate Guide" book specifically states that Prima was the first Transformer of 'em all, accompanied by the panel from the G2 comic that showed the first TF emerging. - Chris McFeely 21:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Cartoon
I don't see how the bot previously known as "Powerful Robot" can be the first Transformer. He was a pre-Transformer for one thing, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt that "the first Transformer" doesn't literally mean he could transform. But, as the article says, he "was created from the corpse of another robot" so he was created late in the game. By Quintessons. Unless it was actually the guy who was recycled into "Powerful Robot" who was Prima. In which case, his entry has to be changed to make that clear. - Starfield 02:26, 2 July 2010 (EDT)
:Powerful Robot being Prima makes no damn sense at all. We see his creation, on screen, and it sure as hell wasn't as one of the original 13 Primus made way back before any Quintessons were around. --KilMichaelMcC 16:29, 6 July 2010 (EDT)
:::I also really hate after-the-fact presumptions and limitations on what prehistoric TFs actually could do / were doing, and like to minimize them as much as possible. Prima was there now? Well, if you say so. Since he was all godly and shit, let's say he was on the astral plane guiding the construction of what would turn out to be his body--so it SEEMED like he was being built, but he really wasn't. This can explain the sequencing too. I don't enjoy bullshit-fu, but it is a defensive martial art. --Thylacine 2000 16:46, 6 July 2010 (EDT)
::::That is some interesting fanon there, but FFoD tells us/shows us that "Powerful Robot" was recycled from "generic assembly line guy". That isn't an after the fact presumption, it is what happened. - Starfield 16:59, 6 July 2010 (EDT)
:::::There's nothing stopping them from coming up with an explanation along the lines of "this dude was imbued with Prima's essence after being recycled". But we're getting off on a tangent. Regardless of how little sense it may make, canon says it's Prima, so here we go. —Interrobang 17:11, 6 July 2010 (EDT)
:::This is a very specific G1 cartoon retcon. I thought maybe there was some logic to it I wasn't seeing. Like maybe Prima was the guy pulled off the assembly line and his essence somehow survived being recycled or something. I guess not. - Starfield 16:59, 6 July 2010 (EDT)
::::The point is, when you involve divinities, you can handwave away any contradiction as divine intervention and they just have to lie there and take it. His essence was involved SOMEWHERE to keep the sequencing intact. It's "fanon," but since all of the story material depicting Prima as the 1st TF can't go around contradicting itself with him being the 2nd, there is going to have to be SOME response to it on the part of the reader, be it in terms of ignoring it utterly or some form of bullshit-fu. You know where I stand. And no, of course none of that goes in the articles. --Thylacine 2000 17:14, 6 July 2010 (EDT)
:::::I did not know Prima was a "divinity". For a guy created by the Quintessons from a different dead guy then soon after effortlessly shot dead by Quintessons, I think "divinity" might be stretching it. :::::::Yes, I read that. I don't really know what to make of it. It is canon, I guess, but it hasn't actually happened (in fiction), as far as I know. ::::::::The eventual story of Prima, as sketched out at BC10, will reveal him to have been an "epic warrior of light" "like a Greek god", whose sword hilt has a little gem on it that gets used as the Matrix of Leadership--and based on how big Optimus Prime's chest is compared to the sword, Prima would be ~500 feet tall. If something that cosmic is supposed to be reconciled with "little dinky nobody who rolled off an assembly line in a completely different time period," then sure, he did some magic ghost woowoo. Again, it wouldn't go into the article, especially if, y'know, it's never actually published or said. Apparently a Recordicons strip featured a Cybertronix declaration that Vector Prime was lying about FFOD. Stamped and licensed and published. Since the G1 retcons of the 13 were just a bad in-joke from the onset, I'm fine with seeing another in-joke obliterate it. Seriously. ::::My Thoughts: Which is easier, clearer, and more useful for us and the users of the wiki? 20+ fairly long, meaningless (to non-speakers) and easily confusable phonetic names like "'Hùanyǐng Xīnxīng" or 20+ well translated (obviously) versions of those names that are just as acurate but also unique, easily memorable and evocative, like "Phantom Nova" If both are equally acurate, true representations of the characters Chinese names then I vote for the translated versions that mean something and are memorable for each character. I'm fine if the Wiki decides otherwise, but just personally thinks this is the better option so wanted to say so. :) --ZacWilliam 18:57, 16 March 2012 (EDT)
:::::I am not at all comfortable with "translating" Chinese character names to fit our convenience.
::::::In a vacuum, I'd prefer translated names. But we don't translate Japanese character names that are in Japanese, and at least some Chinese names for "imported" characters are basically English, so the consistent thing to do is use the names in Chinese. Which also obviates the need for arguments over what is or isn't a good/accurate/appropriate/Transformery enough name translation. -LV 20:17, 16 March 2012 (EDT)

::::::::: I don't think the situation is entirely analogous. Regarding the Trainbots argument, most Japanese characters have straight phoneticization of English names, even the original Japanese-exclusive guys. Therefor, Trainbots or Dinoforce having Japanese names are noteworthy. Further, they've been referred to as such in some official English-language publications.

::::::::: The situation doesn't seem to be the same in the case of Chinese character. Characters who have less fanciful names tend to have straight translations: Dà Huáng-fēng (大黃蜂, "Bumblebee"). Tzáng Tǐeh (藏鐵, "Iron hiding"). Pái-húai (Taiwan, 徘徊, "Prowl"). (Or Jǐng Chē (China, 警車, "Police Car")). Lìeh-chǐuan (Taiwan, 獵犬, "Hound"). (Or Tan Zhang (China, 探長, "Chief Detective")). Admittedly, more fanciful names tend to have less literal translations. It seems to me that translating the names would be in-line with historic norms. After all, we call ブレイバー 'Braver,' not 'Bureibā.' That is, in fact a translation.

::::::::: There are, after all, a LOT of new characters, and as is pointed out above, the phoneticized Chinese is going to be very difficult for anyone to use in any kind of meaningful way. I think the utility of translating the names, along with the historic trends both in Chinese nomenclature and how this wiki handles foreign names lends weight to the idea that we really should be using translations. --Jimsorenson 10:21, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
::::::::::: Just to throw in a practical example, when I was trying to refer to the post I made on Phantom Nova's talk page down below in the next section I could not remember or hope to spell his untranslated Chinese name to make the reference. I couldn't even get close enough spelling wise to look it up on our search. I had to search Phantom Nova. Now imagine your looking for any random one of this huge batch of new characters when we get them all in. I would have to click on every single chinese name in the catagory till I hit a particular one by trial and error because they're like 40+ indistinguishable, big long meaningless (to us) jumbles of Chinese. That's honestly a terrible thing for users. Listing them by accurate translations would be infinately more useful for 99% of our users.--71.233.191.25 10:54, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
:::::::::::::But all translations of anything are ALWAYS that way always. The translator picks which ever possibility he thinks fit best using his own judgement. That's how anything is translated. They are ALL accurate and true. So we pick one, which or why doesn't matter because they're all true and accurate, and then we note on the page that it is an "unofficial translation". Then we are making it useable, and helpful for our users and keeping a true accurate translation, AND being honest about it being unofficial, just like we do with officially unnamed characters like "Big Red". Hi people! I just completed translating all 4 pages of the bios today.
I think I have the gist of what they mean, and tried to express them in more conventional English.
The names are still a bit wonky, though. This is because the Chinese usually give their own names to characters, and literal translation will not get us the intended name. Eg: 红蜘蛛(Red Spider) is supposed to be Starscream. - Meister79
When Jazz fired upon the ship, destroying it, the Decepticons could no longer take the ship and learn from it the location of Cybertron, so they left. Notably, in the battle against the Autobot's ship, Buzzsaw's attacks were visibly of greater power than his comrades... Man of Iron (issue)

The Decepticons were successful in learning from Sparkplug Witwicky how to convert Earth fuel for themselves, and they attacked the Ark in force. The Autobots were weakened from their own lingering fuel problems, and Buzzsaw noticed that even Optimus Prime had trouble hitting him with a shot from his rifle. The Decepticons were clearly the imminent victors in this lopsided battle, and as Buzzsaw tore through the head of one of the final remaining Autobots, Mirage, the Decepticons declared victory. ...Or, they would have, if Sparkplug hadn't poisoned their fuel, causing the Decepticons to stumble over themselves in pain. It was only the surprise arrival of Shockwave that saved Buzzsaw and the others from certain defeat. The Last Stand

After Shockwave assumed command and set up shop at Blackrock Aerospace Assembly Plant Number One, Buzzsaw would perch on Shockwave's shoulder and keep his unruly troops in line. DIS-Integrated Circuits! Buzzsaw, though unnamed, later accompanied Soundwave and most of the other cassette-tape Decepticons to aid their impostor Optimus Prime's ambush of the Autobots, though all of them were easily defeated once the real Optimus Prime was restored. Prime Time!

Unlike the Seekers, Soundwave, Buzzsaw, and the other animal cassettes remained more loyal to Megatron than to Shockwave, and so when the former Decepticon leader was discovered in a coal mine, they arrived swiftly to refuel and reclaim him. I, Robot-Master! (Meanwhile, Buzzsaw also supported Shockwave, including his unsuccessful plot to kidnap and brainwash Bumblebee into being a Decepticon. Plight of the Bumblebee!) One of Megatron's first acts upon returning to the Decepticons was to attack the Ark while seemingly all of the Autobots were attacking the Decepticon base, and he took the Seekers and all of the cassette Decepticons (minus Ravage) with him. Unfortunately, the Ark was now defended by the newly-built Omega Supreme. All of the attacking Decepticons except for Laserbeak and Megatron were obliterated. Buzzsaw's destroyed body was kept in storage within the Ark for several years. Command Performances!

Buzzsaw's body and the others destroyed by Omega Supreme were lifted from the Ark by the Constructicons while the rest of the Decepticons (now under leadership of Ratbat) ambushed the Autobots on the Moon. Totaled!

Soon a civil war erupted between Ratbat's Decepticons and Scorponok's Decepticons, during which Buzzsaw brutally (and literally) disarmed Cutthroat. Cold War! However, it was discovered that the civil war was instigated by Starscream to distract from his evil intentions for the Underbase. The Autobots also showed up, as part of Starscream's diversion, and the two Decepticon armies teamed up to destroy them. Just before strafing Swoop, Buzzsaw cannon-blasted Omega Supreme. However, he had little time to celebrate what may be the single most lop-sided takedown in Transformers history, as he was destroyed by the Underbase-powered Starscream soon afterwards. Dark Star
This led to an alliance between the Decepticons and King Nergill to conquer Washington, D.C.. Buzzsaw helped the Sub-Atlanticans capture the Autobot Wheeljack when he was investigating the situation. His luck didn't hold out when the Dinobots came to occupied Washington, though. Swoop outflew Buzzsaw and Laserbeak, shooting them down with air-to-air missiles. Atlantis, Arise!
Soundwave unleashed Buzzsaw and Laserbeak at Jazz and Inferno when the Decepticons teamed up with the Insecticons to take the Nova Power Plant for its energy. Laserbeak was quickly shot down, but Buzzsaw managed to avoid the Autobots' laser fire and flew off. Later, he lost control of his faculties when Bombshell used his cerebro-shells to turn the Decepticons against Megatron, before their fearless leader could turn against them. He was presumably restored with the others when Bombshell's excess power was negated. The Insecticon Syndrome Buzzsaw later trapped the Autobots inside their bunker behind a pile of rubble, allowing Rumble to get close enough to steal the Negavator, but eventually the Autobots got free and the Decepticons were driven away. Auto Berserk
While searching for the Matrix, Soundwave ejected Buzzsaw and Laserbeak to fight Hot Rod. Hot Rod was rescued by Blaster, prompting Blaster and Soundwave to fight to the death. Buzzsaw, Laserbeak, and Ratbat gathered Soundwave's scattered remains and escaped to the Decepticon base on Chaar. The Mystery of Planet Master There, Buzzsaw met with the rest of the Decepticon cassettes, and at Galvatron's instruction, used technology borrowed from Scorponok to rebuild him into Soundblaster. As Soundblaster came to life, Buzzsaw and the others cheered. Likewise, the Autobots rebuilt Blaster into Twincast, who travelled to Chaar to face Soundblaster again.
Buzzsaw was involved with Starscream's occupation of the human city, Las Vegas. Presumably, he came in under Soundwave's direction. The Decepticons initially worked closely with the Las Vegas Police Department, with Buzzsaw and Laserbeak serving as "watchbirds" to keep an optic open for any unlawful activity in the city limits. Buzzsaw even served as a passive deterrent when necessary, divebombing a hold-up artist named Bernie Kalus before he could enter the convenience store he had targeted. Hardwired Later on, after the Autobots had invaded Las Vegas, Buzzsaw tried to eliminate Prowl and a wounded Bumblebee, but was chased off the hunt when Optimus Prime got involved in the skirmish. When Megatron and Starscream divvyed up the Decepticon forces, Buzzsaw somehow managed to be on BOTH factions simultaneously. In the final fight with the Keepers in Las Vegas, he joined Thundercracker, Laserbeak and the Autobot flyer named Wheeljack in performing aerial assaults on the alien beings. Annihilation Several days later, Buzzsaw and the Decepticons joined the Autobots again in defending against an ambush by the American military in the Nevada desert. The Army had reverse-engineered some Cybertronian technology to create the deconstructionites, microchip-sized projectile sprays that drained the Transformers of their processing power on contact. Buzzsaw caught heavy flak in the first salvo, and quickly found himself unable to fly. At the end of the great war, most Decepticons who were granted amnesty simply retired and vanished from public life. So too would have been the fate of Buzzsaw if not for the intervention of the Predacon Divebomb. Divebomb granted Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, and Ravage a new lease on life, rebuilding them into members of the new faction of Predacons.
Notes
* Though Buzzsaw is portrayed as transforming into a normal audio cassette in the various fictions, his original toy was a microcassette. (Likewise, Soundwave's toy was a microcassette recorder, rather than the "stereo cassette deck" he's stated to be elsewhere.)

*Buzzsaw's scant appearances in the original animated series come as a result of a note in the production bible that says he should only "be used occasionally". This, presumably, is due to the fact that his toy was only available packaged with Soundwave, and hence did not need to be advertised via the show. Poor little guy didn't even get an individual bio in there. (No wonder he took it out on everybody.)

* Buzzsaw could talk in the Marvel UK Comics, as well as in some episodes of the Japanese Headmasters cartoon (where he even commented on how tired he is of seeing Scourge and Cyclonus always lick Galvatron's feet modules). In all media though, he certainly possesses normal transformer intelligence.

*The title screen to Ocean's Transformers game for the Commodore 64 depicts either a Laserbeak or a Buzzsaw that is primarily red with gold wings. Get on it, e-HOBBY!

* At BotCon 2006, the signboards advertising the Laserbeak/Buzzsaw set incorrectly identified him as "Buzzclaw". This was the only place the error appeared.
Convoy Black Ver. is the one underwater fighting the Constructicons, heck !

Synopsis
Optimus Prime gathers the Autobots together for a mission briefing regarding a spate of attacks on human shipping vessels that have occurred over the last 47 days. Prime unveils the mangled remains of a grotesque biomechanical creature that was responsible for attacking a transport ship from Carbombya eight days prior. Evidence of DNA alteration and nanotechnology in the creature's corpse led the Autobots to suspect Decepticon involvement, which was confirmed three days ago when a second creature was sighted during another attack. Tracking it, the Autobots discovered an underwater Decepticon base, and Prime announces that an oceanic team is now investigating...

Beneath the ocean's surface, Splashdown and Waverider transport a submarine containing "cargo" to the Decepticon base. The two Pretenders are mystified at the lack of activity or guards as they approach, but, inside, they come across Hook and Bonecrusher. The submarine opens to reveal Cliffjumper, Sideswipe and a black Optimus Prime—an Eldedroid controlled by the mind of a human named Dan. This plan also takes advantage of the fear of Optimus Prime inherent in all Decepticons, a fear proven when the two horrified Constructicons express their disbelief that Optimus Prime would deign to attack their "tiny mining base". Dan makes easy work of the Constructicons and enters a room with a moon pool leading to the outside sea. As he looks out over the water, however, he is attacked from behind by Megatron, and although he falls, he feels no pain through the robotic body. Megatron is understandably in a bad mood, having been demoted to this demeaning position by the new Decepticon leader Galvatron, and he and Dan battle, with Dan making a point of sounding as much like Prime as he can to make sure Megatron believes he is fighting the genuine article.

Back at Autobot headquarters, Prime is concerned over Dan's welfare, but Ironhide tells him not to be so pessimistic. Splashdown radios in to report that the Constructicons have revealed the true story behind the biomechanical beasts: They were created in the underwater base by the Decepticons, with the aid of human scientists! However, the experiment backfired when the creatures went out control, turning on the Decepticons and keeping them trapped in the base. Splashdown has not yet determined if the creatures' attacks on the human ships are the product of animal instinct or not.

Back with the fight, although Dan feels no pain, he can tell that his body is accumulating a dangerous amount of damage. As Megatron is without his fusion cannon, Dan refuses to shoot him, as it is "not the Prime way", at which point Megatron reveals that he knows Dan is not the real Optimus Prime. Megatron denounces his followers as fools for believing Dan's trick and instructs him to return to the real Prime and tell him that Megatron is leaving all responsibility for the creatures in the Autobots' hands. As he makes this declaration, a gigantic creature bursts from the moon pool...
Continuity notes
*The presence of Ironhide stands out as anomalous, as he ought to be dead by this point in time. He wouldn't be the only character to have died only to show up alive in Japanese fiction, however; we can probably point to the confusing, time- and space-bending effects of the Binaltech story as some kind of explanation.

*In 1989, Takara released a "Hero Set" containing the Classic Pretender versions of Bumblebee, Grimlock, Jazz and Starscream (sans their shells). Takara's 2007 timeline confirmed that the conflict this set represented was set in cartoon continuity, explaining why Bumblebee appears in his original form in this story, rather than as Goldbug.

*According to the author, Splashdown's partner is American Pretender Waverider, not Diver, making his Japanese-continuity debut.

*The Constructicons were last seen in the Zone cartoon, being washed away in a flood of lava. Most fans assumed they died, given the casual manner in which Zone dispatches a few other combiners. Guess not!

Transformers references
*The identity of "Dan" is not revealed, but we're pretty confident in saying it's Daniel Witwicky, who would chronologically be an adult in his thirties, if not older, by this point.

*This comic takes place after the events of the Japanese Generation 2 storyline. It follows a storyline begun by Hirofumi Ichikawa via the bios packaged with several other e-Hobby exclusive toys.
**The story began in the Galvatron II bio, where a Galvatron from an alternate reality traveled to this timeline, intending to conquer the universe with his fleet of Warworlds.
**The story continued in the Laser Rod Ultra Magnus bio, in which Ultra Magnus used the Reconfiguration Matrix within the Matrix of Leadership to resurrect himself in a new body with which to counter Galvatron II.
**The story then continued into the "Hybrid Style Convoy Black Version" comic, in which Optimus Prime dons a "Black body" in order to save Ultra Magnus from the rampaging Galvatron II.
**"Convoy Black Ver."'s bio was the next link in the chain, establishing that Wheeljack and Ga'mede had studied Prime's new Black Body and created mass-produced robot drones in its image named Eldedroids. This comic occurs some time afterward.

*This marks the first appearance of Megatron since the end of the G-2 storyline, when he and the Decepticons were banished to deep space. Apparently, Galvatron II seized command of the Decepticons following their defeat.

Other notes
*The issue contains both Japanese and English text. However, the English translation is sloppy, sometimes to the point of incomprehensibility. It renders "Dan" with two Ns for no readily apparent reason.

Did you see something just now? What was that noise? And what is that glowing light over there?

Odds are, that glimmer in the corner of your optic sensor is a Cloaker. Using technology available to both factions, Cloakers use invisibility to sneak up on their targets and take them out with a (huge) plasma cannon. Extremely fast and agile, the Cloakers' heavy advantage is made greater by their ability to become undetectable to sensors. The easiest way to detect them is to watch for the glow of their plasma cannons as they prepare to fire, but don't look at the glow for too long, unless it's the last thing you ever want to see.

However, those are their only advantages, as Cloakers possess weak armor and firepower. After their cloaking fields are disabled with enough shots, they start running like there is no tomorrow... because for them, there isn't.
Little Jazz. No, not Roy Eldridge.

Synopsis
Although nominally supposed to be out hunting Decepticons, Jazz is driving through the desert after a stray energy trace, chasing a hunch. The source of the trace turns out to be Space Case, trying to force a gas station attendant to give him all his energon. When the befuddled human expresses confusion, Space Case flies into a rage and accuses the human of making fun of him. Jazz chooses that moment to intervene, opining that Space Case is making fun of himself by trying to rob a gas station. The two fight briefly, with Space Case now convinced that Jazz is also making fun of him, before Space Case gets the upper hand on the much smaller Autobot and pins him to the ground with his trident. Jazz is able to ignite the station's underground gasoline tanks, seemingly destroying his attacker, and speed off safely with the attendant.

His victory is short-lived, however, as Space Case comes howling out of the flames, intent on getting revenge on Jazz. Though Space Case is able to get his hands on him, Jazz deftly counters with a series of acrobatic moves and, when Space Case growls at him to shut up, tells the Decepticon not to "knock his hustle". Distracted by Jazz's non-stop shuckin' and jivin', Space Case fails to notice that Jazz's seemingly stray crescent cannon shots have in fact dangerously weakened the cliff face behind him. The resulting rockslide buries the Decepticon.

Jazz apologizes to the attendant for blowing up his gas station, but the human, showing an attitude lamentably uncommon to humans, thanks the "big guy" for saving his life, calling the station "a lousy job anyway". Jazz, tickled at the idea of being "big guy" to someone, tells the attendant to help someone smaller than him in the future, and they'll be even.

"I might not be big, but I'm as real as it gets, son."
[Space Case is crushed by rubble]<br>
"Maybe I ain't so big, an' I might talk too much, an' I most def let my curiosity go wild - but I never, ever miss."
:-Space Case insults Jazzs aim; Jazz begs to disagree

Notes
*The comic comes free with Target's exclusive Dark of the Moon Cyberglyphics-themed redeco of Jazz.
*Although the comic is written as a timeless standalone story, it probably takes place between Bumblebee's capture by Sector 7 and the Autobots' meeting at Griffith Observatory.
*Someone must have cut-and-pasted some legalese for the indicia, because licensing information for both Lockheed's Raptor and Sikorsky's Pave Low appear inside the front cover.

Errors
*Jazz is consistently depicted with red details on his biceps that are actually on the backs of his arms on his toy. Since these details are basically hidden out of sight, this may actually be a production error on the toy, with the comic "correct".
He gets Steeljaw's weapons in gold chrome (rather than the orange color featured in promotional photos). As was the case with most of the other cassettes packed with Twincast's other releases, Stripes sports a different sticker in place of his cassette spool image; an image of Scorponok which reveals the city-bot's weak spots when viewed through Twincast's clear-red chest door (in the same way Tech Spec decoders work).
Notes
* Stripes originated in an early draft for The Transformers: The Movie, where he was released out of Blaster's chest to combat the Decepticon Mini-Cassettes during the Battle of Autobot City. Stripes would have snapped at Ratbat, scaring him. In the finished movie, Ramhorn replaced Stripes in battling Ratbat. Since he was written out of his only intended appearance before publication, we're pretty sure that makes him the single most obscure established character to ever be given a toy—and that's saying something when he's coming out alongside a one-shot prose-only UK character and a decapitated radio.
