Historically, Cybertron had been ruled by a [[Council of Ancients]], sometimes referred to as the Autobot High Council, {{storylink|Transformers: More than Meets the Eye|Decepticons' ''More Than Meets The Eye'' entry}} but that body eventually became corrupted and was destroyed. {{storylink|The War Within issue 6|The War Within #6}} Twice. {{storylink|The Age of Wrath}}

Some 6 million years later, {{storylink|Transformers: The Ultimate Guide}} [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] was the first Cybertronian to awake from the [[Great Shutdown]]. Taking note of the opportunity before him, he occupied Cybertron alone until it proved inevitable for him to awaken the others, both [[Autobot]] and [[Decepticon]], if he wanted to resuscitate the planet. While both factions agreed to set their differences aside to save their home planet, Shockwave's de facto reign wasn't met with much glee from Autobot side. And so, to prevent them from rallying against him, Shockwave created and swore loyalty to the Cybertronian High Council, a political body made up of former Autobots, knowing full well it had no leadership qualities of its own and would look for guidance to him anyway. {{storylink|Revelation (War and Peace)|Revelation}} Perceptor turned out to be the only miscalculation on Shockwave's part, being more inquisitive than he could tolerate. Thus Shockwave arranged for him to be ousted from the council, which solved that problem. {{storylink|Transformers: More than Meets the Eye|Iacon's ''More Than Meets The Eye'' entry}} The High Council met at [[Central Hall]].
The High Council is the main ruling body of Cybertron {{storylink|More than Meets the Eye: Transformers: Armada|Cyber City's ''More Than Meets The Eye'' entry}} and is composed of Transformer elders, who regard themselves as the all-knowing ancients and founders. However, they either overestimate themselves or they willfully lie and keep quiet about a lot since there's quite a few secrets on Cybertron they appear oblivious to. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath}} Before and during the war with the Decepticons, the High Council was probably housed in the [[Loop]] in [[Cyber City]]. After [[the Unicron Battles]], the remains of the Loop were demolished to make room for a new complex, the [[High Halls]], where the High Council gathered from then. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}} Whenever they can't appear in person, they communicate with each other through the Amalgamation. {{storylink|No Exit}}

Despite the ten years of peace that followed the defeat of [[Unicron]], [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] remained concerned that the Chaos Bringer was not definitely dealt with and so requested the High Council to provide him with the means to launch an investigation. The High Council refused on grounds that resources were still scarce and that the panic the investigation would generate among the population was counterproductive to the goal of prolonged peace, whereas Optimus Prime had no proof that Unicron still posed a threat. Unsatisfied with this decision, Optimus went to see [[Over-Run (Armada)|Over-Run]] to ask him for advice. The [[Mini-Con]] told him of an [[uplink platform]] on the southern polar peninsula where he'd be able to make contact with the [[Hub (Energon)|mass intellect]] of Cybertron itself to learn about Unicron's fate. When Optimus asked the Council about this, they told him they knew of no such construct. He went to try anyway. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}}

{{bigquote|Yeah, well, I don't trust '''them''' to tell me the right time, so...|[[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]]'s opinion of the High Council|"[[This Evil Reborn]]"}}

Finding out that Unicron was in fact still alive ánd sending troops to [[Earth]] to obtain the planet's abundant amount of [[energon]] to revitalize himself, Optimus Prime returned to the Council to argue for an investigation once more. However, the Council was skeptical about his story of [[Alpha Trion (Energon)|Sig-Omega]] and the [[Hub (Energon)|Hub]], neither subjects they possessed knowledge of, let alone his claim [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] was still alive when four of Optimus's own team had testified to have witnessed the [[Decepticon leader]]'s death. Still, they did admit they had made some bad judgement calls in the past, and so did grant Optimus his request... on the condition he did it himself. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath}} A sudden attack by [[Unicron's Four Horsemen]] changed the Council's opinion, who saw in it the proof they needed of Unicron's continued existence. {{storylink|What Lies Beneath, Part Two}} Too bad the Four Horsemen were actually deliberately sent by [[Alpha Quintesson]], in league with the dissident-councilor [[Avalon]], to get the Cybertronians to spread their troops thin and become vulnerable, the very problem the Council had originally seen in Optimus's plan. {{storylink|Multiplicity, Pt. 3}}

{{bigquote|'''Jetfire:''' "This couldn't have come at a '''worse''' time... Not that there's exactly a '''good''' time, you understand... What with the unrest on Earth, the imminent arrival of the '''Base Units''' and..."<br><br>'''Prowl:''' "The Council in siege mentality?"<br><br>'''Jetfire:''' "Yeah, I tell you, Prowl... I'd rather go toe-to-toe with Unicron's '''Four Horsemen''' than step up and petition the Council for reinforcements."|[[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] and [[Prowl (Armada)|Prowl]]|"[[Multiplicity]]"}}

After having spent some time preparing Earth for an attack by Unicron's armies, Optimus wanted to return to Cybertron to ask the Council for reinforcements and more resources. However, he disappeared during his travel by [[space bridge]]. {{storylink|Omni-Potent}} As such, [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] stood up to place the request for resources. Appearing before the Council alongside [[Prowl (Armada)|Prowl]], his case was initially rejected on grounds that sending extra troops to Earth would leave Cybertron completely defenseless. Avalon then chimed in that it occurred to him that if they didn't put effort in keeping Earth's energon out of Unicron's reach, then it didn't matter how many troops they kept on Cybertron because they wouldn't stand a chance against him. This got the rest of the Council thinking {{storylink|Multiplicity}} and they eventually decided to give the Autobots access to all that they would need to complete their mission. Jetfire expressed his gratitude, in particular to Avalon, but the friendly talk was cut short when Prowl brought in news of a massive [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcon]] attack on Earth. {{storylink|Multiplicity, Pt. 2}}

Once the battle was over, Jetfire returned to Cybertron to speak with the Council about two bits of knowledge he had acquired, namely that Megatron was alive and back and that he knew what had happened to Optimus Prime. Avalon declared that they now had to face the possibility Optimus would not come back, then respectfully disengaged to handle other matters, i.e. figuring out with Alpha Quintesson in which part of Unicron's body Optimus was dwelling. {{storylink|No Exit}}

{{note|[[Dreamwave Productions|Dreamwave]] went bankrupt during their ''Energon'' storyline. Aside from the knowledge Levitacus and Avalon would have gotten [[Unreleased Dreamwave issues|More Than Meets The Eye]] profiles which would've likely shed some more light on the workings of the High Council, there is no information what further role the High Council would've played.}}
====''Exodus''====
[[Image:High Council Chamber.jpg|thumb|In our spare time, we play Beyblade.]]
The High Council consisted of thirteen members and convened in the [[High Council Tower]] in [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]]. The High Councilers saw Cybertron through a [[Quintesson]] [[Age of Wrath|invasion]], the [[Golden Age]] of Cybertron and the beginnings of the [[caste system]]. Aware of the Cybertronian populace's disgruntlement with castes, the High Council turned a blind eye to the rising [[gladiatorial combat]]s taking place in industrial areas in and around [[Kaon]]. As Orion Pax and [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]]'s movement to abolish the castes turned violent and [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Sentinel Prime]] disappeared, [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]] arranged a hearing for them at the High Council Chamber. There Orion claimed the caste system enslaved Cybertronians and demanded a new Prime to lead them in an age of self-determination. He was unaware that [[Halogen (Prime)|Halogen]] had been told by Alpha Trion that Orion might be the [[Prime (rank)|Prime]] who would save Cybertron from civil war, as foretold in the [[Covenant of Primus]], and he appointed him Optimus Prime and sent him on a quest for the [[Matrix of Leadership]]. But this act destroyed Optimus and Megatron's movement, as the jealous gladiator murdered Halogen and claimed Optimus had betrayed him for the High Council's favor. In the subsequent war, only [[Contrail]], [[Ratbat (WFC)|Ratbat]] and [[Drivetrain (WFC)|Drivetrain]] survived by going over to the Decepticons.

When Optimus Prime came to power, Sentinel was the only original member of the Council still alive, having overseen [[Trypticon (Prime)|Trypticon]]'s construction, though Halogen and [[Sigil]] were believed to be as almost as old as him. {{storylink|Transformers: Exodus|Exodus}}

====''Transformers: War for Cybertron''====
[[Image:WFC_AutobotHighCouncil.jpg|thumb|left|300px|]]
{{quote|The Council exists only to choose the Primes. It is the Primes' directive to lead and protect.|So... essentially, they don't do anything?|''[[Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)|Transformers: War for Cybertron]]''}}

The Autobot High Council's role was to choose the [[Prime (rank)|Primes]], the leaders of the Autobots, but observed that many Primes they choose eventually fell to greed and pride. However, they kept a close eye on [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus]], a courageous and wise soldier who inspired those under his command, and who was marked by fate to one day assume the mantle of Prime, although Optimus rejected that he was worthy of being Prime.

When war raged across Cybertron between the Autobots and the Decepticons, Autobot leader [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Zeta Prime]] was defeated and captured by [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]], who sought the Autobots' [[Omega Key]], a device that would gain him access to Cybertron's core as part of the Decepticon plan to infuse it with [[Dark Energon]]. Despite a daring rescue attempt from the [[Kaon]] detention facility by Optimus, [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]], [[Sideswipe (WFC)|Sideswipe]] and [[Air Raid (WFC)|Air Raid]], Zeta succumbed to his injuries and went offline.

Optimus brought Zeta's body to the Autobot High Council and begged their guidance in these desperate times. The leader of the Council stated that they existed only to choose Primes, and that it was the Primes who led the Autobots. When Optimus responded that there were no Primes remaining, the Council leader asked if Optimus would still reject his true calling. The Council said that for too long they have watched the Primes fail in their lofty positions, but Optimus was one leader whose wisdom and courage transformed the lives of those around him. Charging him with the mission to remove the infection of Dark Energon from Cybertron's core, the council bestowed leadership of the Autobots onto Optimus, a burden and responsibility he accepted. The council declared that Optimus was now Optimus '''''Prime''''', the last Prime. {{storylink|Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)|Transformers: War for Cybertron}}
When Megatron came before them, allegedly to call for justice, he arrogantly threatened to remove the old guard by force and demanded to be the next Prime. In contrast, the young Orion Pax was able to move the Council with his words and reason; they chose Orion as someone who may one day be Prime, causing Megatron to cut off ties and turn to violence. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 3}} Smokescreen mentioned that Alpha Trion requested Halogen and the High Council to make Orion Pax a Prime. {{storylink|New Recruit}}
Near the dawn of time, while the Thirteen were struggling with the threat of [[Unicron]], [[The Fallen|Megatronus Prime]] commissioned Solus Prime to create a weapon of incredible destruction to use against the Chaos Bringer. Solus Prime had strong reservations, but after a long period of time managed to create the Requiem Blaster. She gathered the interested members of the Thirteen to witness a test of its powers, and leveled a mountain. She pointed out that power corrupts and worried that the existence of such a weapon could possibly lead to their own downfall. Ultimately, the Thirteen voted seven to six to keep the Requiem Blaster and not destroy it.

It was Solus Prime's sudden murder at the hands of the enraged Megatronus Prime that caused the first major schism in the Thirteen. After Megatronus Prime became The Fallen and was defeated by the remnants of the Thirteen, a tomb was fashioned for Solus Prime out of a meteor and set adrift in the stars, reachable only by a series of [[space bridge]]s.

Countless years later, [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] came across Solus Prime's tomb while searching for a mystical artifact. A semi-sentient hologram of Solus Prime appeared and warned Optimus and his Autobots to leave. Solus Prime directed them towards a Space Bridge which would take them to the location of the lost Requiem Blaster.
However, as Optimus prepared to claim it, Dreadwing arrived and battled him over the relic. Starscream used this moment of distraction to get the armor (which he mistakenly identified as a Decepticon weapon) and fight Dreadwing and Optimus with it. Though the armor made him much stronger, Starscream was still unable to fly (due to the loss of his T-cog), so Dreadwing used a moment's distraction from Starscream to plant bombs around him and cause him to fall to the bottom of the sea. :''Wheeljack is an [[Autobot]] and [[Wrecker]] from the [[Aligned continuity family]].''
[[Image:PrimeWheeljack-HowToDraw.jpg|right|thumb|325px|"I'm here to build gizmos and be a badass loner, and I'm all out of knowing how to build gizmos!"]]

'''Wheeljack''' is one of the roughest Autobots around. As a former member of the [[Wrecker]]s, he's seen plenty of action, and he's got the snarky one-liners to prove it. If there's anything he likes more than slicing up [[Decepticon]]s with his swords or inventing new gadgets to slice Decepticons in different ways, it's hanging with his old buddy, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] (who calls him '''Jackie''').

Wheeljack doubts [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]]'s leadership capabilities, believing he's more of a stuffy old figurehead than a warrior. Wheeljack also chafes under too much supervision. That's why he usually takes off shortly after he's arrived. He'd rather be on his own.

{{bigquote|If you're trying to ruin my day, you're gonna have to try harder.|Wheeljack|"[[Con Job]]"}}

==Fiction==
===Aligned novels===
Wheeljack was a member of the Wreckers black ops. After the [[Great Exodus]], the Autobots remaining on Cybertron encountered the inventor and engineer wandering outside [[Crystal City]]. They took him in, with [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]] theorizing that he had escaped from [[Shockwave (Prime)|Shockwave]]'s facilities there. Wheeljack proceeded to equip the resistance with new gadgets and weaponry, but his true loyalty remained to science, rather than the Autobots.

Eventually, Wheeljack, along with [[Ultra Magnus (Prime)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Springer (WFC)|Springer]] approached Alpha Trion to propose re-creating [[space bridge]] technology on a personal scale, and using the energies from the space bridge explosion to trace the locations of the vanished ''[[Ark (WFC)|Ark]]'' and ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]''. The project proceeded, and the inventor was able to find a way of opening a brief passageway through space-time, utilising the remaining energies of the [[Well of All Sparks]] and the damaged consciousness of [[Vector Sigma]]. Wheeljack suggested they send a message of some sort through the gateway to [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]], but Alpha Trion advocated sending an actual bot. Eventually, the Autobot called [[Chaindrive]] was sent, equipped with a device to track the [[Matrix of Leadership]], a piece of the [[Blades of Time]], and a warning for Optimus regarding the [[Requiem Blaster (Prime)|Requiem Blaster]]. {{Storylink|Transformers: Exiles|Exiles}}

Wheeljack was a member of the [[Wrecker]]s alongside [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], {{storylink|Con Job}} [[Impactor (Prime)|Impactor]], [[Roadbuster (Prime)|Roadbuster]], [[Rotorstorm (Prime)|Rotorstorm]], [[Seaspray (Prime)|Seaspray]] and [[Pyro (Prime)|Pyro]]. {{storylink|Loose Cannons}} He took part in an unnamed battle where he and Bulkhead became surrounded by Decepticons and low on Energon. However, Wheeljack threw a grenade into a smelter, causing it to explode and take out the attackers.{{storylink|Con Job}} Him and Bulkhead also had an altercation on [[Sandokan]].{{storylink|Loose Cannons}}. However, early on in the war, Bulkhead left the Wreckers to join [[Team Prime]] while Wheeljack continued to serve in the Wreckers. Wheeljack took part in the Battle of [[Darkmount]] Pass, where he took out a group of Decepticons to get the Wreckers across a smelting pit. When [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] went dark, he began traveling the stars alone in the ''[[Jackhammer (Prime)|Jackhammer]]''. {{storylink|Con Job}}

Eventually he reached [[Earth]]'s [[Solar System]] and was hailed by the Autobots stationed there, including Bulkhead. As he was coming in to land at the coordinates provided by [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]], his ship was attacked and shot down by [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]]. Wheeljack emerged from the ''Jackhammer'' and proceeded to trash the Decepticons, but was eventually overwhelmed and taken back to the ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]'' where he was imprisoned. He was amused to find that [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] was in command of the Decepticons, and almost goaded Starscream into killing him.

[[Image:ConJob-Wheeljackswords.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Wheeljack: determined to make [[Drift (G1)|Drift]] redundant.]]

An opportunity allowed him to kill his guard and break free from his bonds. He scaled to the top of the ship, where Starscream was waiting for [[Makeshift (Prime)|Makeshift]], who'd taken on Wheeljack's appearance, to open the Autobot [[GroundBridge]]. Wheeljack smashed a bunch of Vehicons and assaulted Starscream before escaping through the GroundBridge to the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot base]]. There he confronted Makeshift and the pair dueled with swords until Wheeljack was victorious. Bulkhead tossed Makeshift back through the GroundBridge along with a "present" for the 'cons.

Though the Autobots welcomed Wheeljack, he revealed that he intended to return to space. He invited Bulkhead along, but Bulkhead was too attached to his friends on Earth to leave. Bulkhead was sure Wheeljack would return someday... {{storylink|Con Job}}

When [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] was trying to stir Bulkhead's memory after he absorbed the data from the [[Cybertronian data cylinder]] she mentioned Wheeljack, and showed Bulkhead the picture she took of them together before he left. Sadly, this did not jog Bulkhead's memory. {{storylink|T.M.I.}}

[[Image:LooseCannons Wheeljack fires back.jpg|thumb|left|250px|Who shoots first?]]
During his travels, Wheeljack made contact with fellow Wrecker [[Seaspray (Prime)|Seaspray]] only for [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] to destroy Seaspray's ship. Wheeljack chased Dreadwing to Earth where they battled near a gas station, which was destroyed in the conflict as [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]]'s team arrived. Filling the other Autobots in, Wheeljack found himself chafing over the need for secrecy. When Dreadwing called him to arrange a meeting, Wheeljack took Bulkhead to try and trap the Decepticon. The encounter instead left Wheeljack buried.

[[Image:LooseCannons Wheeljack undergoes repairs.jpg|thumb|right|250px|After Arkham City, Wheeljack Ryder gets fixed by a Doctor.]]
Once Optimus dug him out, he accompanied the Autobot leader to the port where Bulkhead had been taken by Dreadwing and attempted to remove the bomb the Decepticon had placed on his comrade. Eventually he was forced to concede only Dreadwing could remove the bomb, and he and Optimus played a gambit that forced Dreadwing's hand. Convinced to stay on Earth by the other Autobots, Wheeljack adopted a new alternate mode and drove off to explore the planet. {{storylink|Loose Cannons}} He also used the time to become quite familar with the location of key Decepticon Energon mines. {{storylink|Hurt}}

As the Autobots split up to retrieve the four new Iacon relics, Optimus told Ratchet that he'd need Wheeljack's help for the mission ahead. Remembering his past experiences with the Wrecker, Ratchet was naturally reluctant to go through with the idea, but Optimus reminded the medic that he would need a capable warrior like Wheeljack to watch his back. {{storylink|Triangulation}}

[[Image:Prime-TriageRatchet&Wheeljack.jpg|thumb|left|250px|After this, you wanna go build a [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]?]]
Ratchet rendezvoused with Wheeljack by the ''Jackhammer'', and they headed out in the ship to find the relic. Wheeljack quickly got on Ratchet's nerve by calling him "doc" and "sunshine" but soon encountered [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]]. The Wrecker engaged Soundwave in a dog fight using some fancy aerial flight moves, but against the advice of Ratchet, Wheeljack let Soundwave go and attacked [[Laserbeak (Prime)|Laserbeak]]. After a lengthy dog fight, Wheeljack shot the [[Mini-Con]] down, but the ''Jackhammer'' was also disabled. On the ground Wheeljack found Laserbeak and suggested planting a grenade inside of the Mini-Con to kill Soundwave, but Ratchet had a better idea: A virus which would download the entire Iacon data base into their systems.

While Ratchet set about implanting the virus into Laserbeak, Wheeljack went after Soundwave, soon locating and attacking the Decepticon. Though he almost got the upper hand, Soundwave hit him with the [[Resonance Blaster]], and Wheeljack barely had time to warn Ratchet before falling unconscious. Despite the damage, Wheeljack refused to return to base for treatment and instead set about fixing his ship. But before Ratchet left, Wheeljack finally acknowledged the doctor by name. {{storylink|Triage}}

[[Image:Hurt-WheeljackHardshell.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Wheeljack learns the ''Hard'' way that giving Hardshell some 5-Hour Energy wasn't a very good idea.]]
Wheeljack was called in to the base when Bulkhead turned up critically injured. While he had full confidence in Ratchet's abilities, he decided to go find the responsible parties. Joined by Miko, he attacked an energon mine to draw out [[Hardshell]]. This succeeded, and Wheeljack left Miko in the ship while he faced the Insecticons. Unfortunately Hardshell was too much for him to handle, but as he was about to be killed, Miko interceded in the fight, blasting Hardshell with the ''Jackhammer''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> missiles. After losing the rest of the Insecticon swarm by throwing a box of grenades at them, the pair returned to base, though Wheeljack didn't want to see his friend lying comatose and left. {{storylink|Hurt}} Ratchet held a grudge over Wheeljack's revenge stunt, and when Arcee suggested calling the Wrecker in to cover for Bulkhead, Ratchet objected. {{storylink|New Recruit}}
He comes with two swords which can stow underneath the vehicle or attach under the front bumper to create an attack mode. In robot mode, Wheeljack can either hold the swords, stow them on his shoulders, or they can be inserted into slots near his wings. Surprisingly, there are no Autobot insignias on Wheeljack whatsoever.

: In wave six of the ''Prime'' toyline, Wheeljack was put into new packaging, which came with a DVD featuring the ''[[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)| Prime]]'' episode "[[Loose Cannons]]".

: This version of Wheeljack was only available with the ''[[Jackhammer (Prime)#Toys|Star Hammer]]'', in which he can be seated in the opening cockpit.
Back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] in the latter part of the war, Smokescreen was keen to be a soldier and underwent training with the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]] though it was more of a boot camp at the time. To his disappointment, he ended up on security detail at the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] [[Hall of Records]] guarding [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]]. Though he learned much, he still yearned for combat. He thought his chance had come when the [[Decepticon]]s attacked Iacon directly, but instead he was immediately knocked into stasis by a Decepticon bomb, and woke up much later on one of their transports. Giving the guard the slip, Smokescreen stole an escape pod which took him to [[Earth]].

Upon landing, he joined members of [[Team Prime]] in fighting off some Decepticons who had converged on the pod. His wild, reckless fighting ignited the pod's spilled fuel, which sent the Deceptions packing, but did little to impress Team Prime. Though the others were suspicious, Optimus accepted him upon his recounting of tales only Alpha Trion and Optimus would have known. They took him to [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Outpost Omega One]] and the [[human]] [[Jack Darby]] gave him a tour during which he recognized some of the relics from the Hall of Records. Due to Smokescreen's inexperience, Optimus refused to let him go on a mission to recover [[Red Energon]], and instead he and Jack went to find him a new [[alternate mode]]. When Prime's team got into trouble, Smokescreen had the idea of using the [[phase shifter]] to help and convinced [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] to let him try. On the battlefield, he succeeded in using it to separate [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] from the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]], ultimately resulting a victory (more or less) for the Autobots. With that success, Optimus welcomed him to Team Prime. {{storylink|New Recruit}}

{{spoiler|The Human Factor|September 21, 2012}}
Bulkhead rebuffed Smokescreen's suggestion of using the Apex Armor while mending. When the Decepticons got hold of a [[Project Damocles]] satellite, Optimus led a team including Smokescreen to a military base in [[Colorado]] to protect the satellite's control codes. They ended up tangling with Decepticons, and Smokescreen was almost hit by the laser from the orbiting satellite. Smokescreen tired a solo attempt to get to Soundwave's location but was almost hit again before being called to join Bulkhead in fighting [[Silas|Cylas]] and they succeeded in driving the [[MECH]] commander off. Smokescreen told the Wrecker that he studied all of his unit's battles which gave Bulkhead more confidence in him. {{storylink|The Human Factor}}

Upon landing, he joined members of [[Team Prime]] in fighting off some Decepticons who had converged on the pod. His wild, reckless fighting ignited the pod's spilled fuel, which sent the Deceptions packing, but did little to impress Team Prime. Though the others were suspicious, Optimus accepted him upon his recounting of tales only Alpha Trion and Optimus would have known. They took him to [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Outpost Omega One]] and the [[human]] [[Jack Darby]] gave him a tour during which he recognized some of the relics from the Hall of Records. Due to Smokescreen's inexperience, Optimus refused to let him go on a mission to recover [[Red Energon]], and instead he and Jack went to find him a new [[alternate mode]]. When Prime's team got into trouble, Smokescreen had the idea of using the [[phase shifter]] to help and convinced [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] to let him try. On the battlefield, he succeeded in using it to separate [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] from the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]], ultimately resulting a victory (more or less) for the Autobots. With that success, Optimus welcomed him to Team Prime. {{storylink|New Recruit}}

{{spoiler|The Human Factor|September 21, 2012}}
Bulkhead rebuffed Smokescreen's suggestion of using the Apex Armor while mending. When the Decepticons got hold of a [[Project Damocles]] satellite, Optimus led a team including Smokescreen to a military base in [[Colorado]] to protect the satellite's control codes. They ended up tangling with Decepticons, and Smokescreen was almost hit by the laser from the orbiting satellite. Smokescreen tired a solo attempt to get to Soundwave's location but was almost hit again before being called to join Bulkhead in fighting [[Silas|Cylas]] and they succeeded in driving the [[MECH]] commander off. Smokescreen told the Wrecker that he studied all of his unit's battles which gave Bulkhead more confidence in him. {{storylink|The Human Factor}}
The '''Apex Armor''' is one of the [[Artifacts of the Primes|relics]] of the [[Thirteen]] (or an armor of Decepticon design; it depends [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|on who]] [[Starscream (Prime)|you ask]]). Judging by the name, it's probably not the worst set of armor you could find. While normally compacted in a disk, when placed over a Transformer's chest it will expand into a huge set of armor able to withstand any attacks, from blasters, bombs or melee weapons.
The Apex Armor was created by [[Solus Prime]]. Long after, while waiting for the [[Autobot]]s on Cybertron, [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]] had a few daydreams about [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] returning with the relic, as well as the [[AllSpark]] and other lost and legendary treasures. {{storylink|Transformers: Exiles|Exiles}}
The Apex Armor was stored in the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] [[Vaults]] until late in the war when [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]]'s forces stormed Iacon. Along with the other relics, it was ejected into space and eventually found its way to [[Earth]], where it ended up in the [[Antarctica|Antarctic]]. A human research team found it and took it back to their base. Later it was discovered by [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]], who took it for his own while Optimus Prime and [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] were fighting each other over it. He pulled it from the ice it was encased in and identified it as armor of Decepticon design. When he placed the roughly disc shaped object to his chest it expanded over him into a full body armor that towered over both Optimus and Dreadwing. It proved to be a very powerful weapon, allowing him to survive two attacks by Optimus Prime and Dreadwing. It was impervious to Dreadwing's sword and energy blasts only served to stagger him. He had heightened strength, but the armor did not have any weapons, nor did it restore his ability to transform. {{storylink|Triangulation}} Megatron was unpleased with Dreadwing's failure to obtain the armor {{storylink|Triage}}
Long ago, '''Airachnid''' was with the [[Decepticon]]s, where her cruel, cold-sparked, murderous demeanor served her well. But after the [[Great Exodus]] of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], she decided to go solo. During the war for Cybertron, Airachnid managed to capture [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] and her partner [[Tailgate (Prime)|Tailgate]]. the spider troutured Arcee and left her with a scar on her face but quickly realized that Arcee would resist the physical torture she used, Airachnid decided to employ a simpler threat: Tell her the attack coordinates of an impeding attack, or Tailgate dies. Arcee insisted she didn't know the coordinates, but Airachnid didn't believe her and killed Tailgate. Moments later as Arcee screamed in horror, [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] and [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]] burst into the holding room, killing the two [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s and rescuing Arcee. Airachnid, however, escaped.

Following the [[Great Exodus]], Airachnid concluded that the war was over, meaning she needed a new way to spend her time. Abandoning the Decepticons, she decided to hunt sentient species, then wipe them out after getting a trophy. Eventually, Airachnid crash-landed [[Airachnid's ship|her ship]] on [[Earth]]. She initially laid her optics on a lone camper, but was ambushed by Arcee. While Arcee gained the upper hand, she was distracted by her human partner, [[Jack Darby]], and Airachnid webbed her to a rock. Having learned of Cliffjumper's recent demise, Airachnid decided that making Jack her next trophy would be a delicious way to hurt Arcee before finally snuffing out her [[spark]]. She chased Jack back to her ship, but discovered too late that the human had snuck out the underside. She spotted Jack ''just'' in time to see him hurl a flaming stick into a pool of [[energon]] that was leaking from her ship. Airachnid barely managed to escape the explosion, but she was wounded and ''really'' pissed. She managed to web the fleeing Jack to a tree, but before Airachnid could deliver the killing blow, Arcee came to the rescue and absolutely wiped the forest floor with the Decepticon. Deciding she had endured enough for one night, Airachnid drilled into the ground and fled. {{storylink|Predatory}}

[[Image:Crisscross-helicopter.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Finally a use for those helicopter cockpit halves on her shoulders!]]
Learning of [[MECH]]'s treatment of [[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]], Airachnid engineered a distress call which lured [[Silas]] to the forest. She made a deal with the MECH agent to give him Arcee&nbsp;&ndash; at least, what would be ''left'' of her&nbsp;&ndash; if he could deliver Jack to her. Silas used the [[Internet]] to track down information on Jack and have [[June Darby]] kidnapped so Airachnid cocooned her and dangled her from a building in the disused [[Jasper]] factory MECH was occupying. When Jack arrived, Airacnid gave him six minutes to rescue his mother. She followed Jack around the factory and, when he eventually found June and claimed victory, she pointed out the task was to ''rescue'' mom, not just find her. Before Airachnid could start with the dismemberment, Arcee arrived to attack her and the two enemies fought at length around the building's structure. During the fight, Airachnid was thrown into a container and coated with concrete, but managed to get free and web Arcee to the ground. She was about to finish off Arcee when she was attacked by [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]]'s helicopters, and was forced to [[scanning|scan]] one so she could escape. {{storylink|Crisscross}}

[[Image:MetalAttraction-Airachnidcaptured.jpg|thumb|left|250px|"Breakdown, you have a bug on your... um... windshield?"]]
Airachnid followed a magnetic signal and found [[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]] with a [[polarity gauntlet]]. Seeking to obtain the weapon, she buried him underground, but he escaped and she was forced to fight him. Then Arcee turned up with a [[Bulkhead (Prime)|new partner for her to snuff]] and she had to fight them as well. When Breakdown activated the gauntlet, she fled in alarm. She later ambushed the 'Con on his way back to the ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]'', taking the gauntlet from him and reacting with disdain to his suggestion they could take it back to [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] together. The Autobots caught up with them, and Airachnid used the gauntlet to draw Arcee to her for a little one-on-one fighting. When the battle started to turn sour, however, she grabbed the gauntlet and attempted to flee in her helicopter form. Unfortunately, Bulkhead grabbed her and threw her into Breakdown. Fused magnetically to the 'Con, she was carried back to the ''Nemesis'', where she had no choice but to rejoin the Decepticons. {{storylink|Metal Attraction}}

[[Image:Partners-Immobilizer.jpg|thumb|250px|"Even shinier than the [[Polarity gauntlet]]!"]]
Immediately ingratiating herself with Megatron, Airachnid told the Decepticon leader that [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] had been keeping information to himself, such as the location of the crashed Decepticon ship, the ''[[Harbinger]]''. Megatron ordered Starscream to take Airachnid to the ship's crash site and secure the experimental weapon it contained. Once there, Airachnid discovered that the half of the ship containing the [[Immobilizer]] had broken off before impact. She webbed up Starscream and forced him to tell her the location of the aft section, but was attacked by the Autobots while leaving. After a brief fight with Arcee, Airachnid was chased off by [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]], and instead went to find the ''Harbinger''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> aft. She quickly located it and retrieved the Immobilizer, then lay in wait as Optimus's team approached the ship. She was able to freeze Bulkhead and Optimus, but some deft trickery by Bumblebee allowed him to sneak up on her and destroy the Immobilizer. She retreated back to the ''Nemesis'' where she tried to blame the loss of the Immobilizer on Starscream as well as explain why she left him behind. Unluckily for her, an enraged Megatron roared that by allowing the Decepticon second-in-command to be taken prisoner, she'd just put all Decepticon intelligence at the fingertips of the Autobots. {{storylink|Partners}}
Despite this, she was promoted to Second in Command during Starscream's absence. {{storylink|One Shall Fall}} Breakdown seemed to have developed a crush on Airachnid. {{storylink|Stronger, Faster}}

[[Image:Tfprime Airachnid thoughts of betrayal.jpg|thumb|250px|left|Who needs Starscream?]]
When the Decepticons located the last part they needed for their space bridge in a human installation, Airachnid suggested she could burrow up under it, but Megatron announced that the time for stealth was past, so she didn't. Once they secured the power source they needed, Airachnid and Knock Out observed Megatron acting strangely and wondered if their leader was losing it. {{storylink|One Shall Fall}} While the [[Decepticon Miner|miners]] gathered up [[Dark Energon]], Airachnid hung out on the bridge and watched as [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] played back [[Unicron]]'s pulse. She reported to Megatron that the hold was full, and they should think about retreating. He responded by leaving her in charge while he went to go and talk to Unicron. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 1}} Airachnid returned the ''Nemesis'' to orbit to wait. [[Image:OneShallRise3-SoundwaveAirachnid.jpg|right|thumb|250px|''Round One. FIGHT!!!'']]
When she called the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki> crew to the bridge, she had deduced that Megatron, either deceased or deep within Unicron, had abandoned them, and with Earth falling into chaos, decided that they should relocate to [[Regulon Four]]. As none of the other Decepticons spoke out against her, Airachnid ordered Soundwave to set the ''Nemesis'' on course, however the silent Decepticon refused to comply. She attempted to assert her leadership by attacking him, only to discover that she was no match for Soundwave and his Minicon [[Laserbeak (Prime)|Laserbeak]]. The pair double-teamed her, and she was forced to yield when held underfoot. She subsequently decided to be elsewhere when Megatron did return. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 3}}

Airachnid was soon back as Megatron's subordinate, though she expressed her concern about the amnesiac Optimus Prime being allowed full run of the ship. When Arcee sneaked on board The Nemesis to find Optimus, Airachnid readily volunteered to go and deal with her, even offering to offline The Autobot. However, Megatron felt that the situation needed to be dealt with more subtly, so he sent Soundwave instead. {{storylink|Orion Pax, Part 1}}

[[Image:Crossfire Airachnid captures Arcee.jpg|thumb|left|250px|Let the shipping commence!]]
Though Airachnid offered to employ her tracking skills in finding more artifacts, Megatron instead had [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] and Breakdown try to offline her. She webbed the former to a tree and dismantled the latter. Not long after, she encountered an [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]] which she was able to control. After an encounter with Starscream, she lured Megatron to an abandoned energon mine and set the Insecticon on him, watching the fight until she was attacked by Arcee. The Autobot pursued her as she burrowed away, but Airachnid managed to ambush her foe. She was prevented from terminating the helpless Arcee by Starscream, and instead had to flee, but this fortuitously led her to stumble on a whole Insecticon hive. {{Storylink|Crossfire}}

Detecting a beacon transmitting from the ''Nemesis'' a while later, Airachnid woke the Insecticon army to go eliminate Megatron. Their activity drew the attention of the Autobots and though Airachnid sent some of the Insecticons after them, Arcee relentlessly pursued her once more into the Insecticon hive, slaming some of the Insecticons into her. Arcee finally caught up with Ariachnid and out of raeg shot multible times at her, forcing her of her cliffside. Airachnid offered Arcee the chance to kill her painfully but Arcee refused, making Airchnid fight back. As they fought, Arcee managed to maneuver Airachnid onto one of the pods, which closed and put her into stasis, taking off one of her spider legs. :Part of the fourth wave of ''[[Transformers: Prime (toyline)#Robots in Disguise (2012)|Prime: Robots in Disguise]]'' toys, Airachnid transforms into a stealth helicopter with an opening canopy. She comes with two "electro-stingers" which can [[5mm post|mount]] onto her open palms or onto the helicopter sides/her upper arms. These weapons each feature two pegs in two different locations and a peg-hole in-between, allowing the weapons to be mounted/held in different ways, while her rotors can also detach from her base and be used as a sword via a [[5mm post]], meaning all of her weapons can combine with each other to form a larger weapon.

:In robot mode, Airachnid has a ''severely'' limited range of [[articulation]]. Her head is unable to turn or tilt in any significant way due to her [[light-piping]] plastic being molded as the helicopter seat and being blocked by the surrounding cockpit, her hands cannot be swung down parallel to her panel arms due to a bit of the panel getting in the way, and while her legs ''were'' designed to have thigh [[Swivel joint|swivel]]s, her thigh panels and the helicopter kibble behind it block ''much'' of her leg articulation.

:Her [[stock photography]] depicts paint details on her legs and toes that were omitted on the final product.

:The [[TakaraTomy]] release omits some of of her detail-based [[paint operation]]s, replacing them with customer-applied foil [[sticker]]s. She has also been retooled to have additional 5mm ports. Instead of her electro-stingers, she comes with an [[Arms Micron]], [[Ida]].

==Notes==
* Airachnid's head design and largely black color scheme have heavy similarities to the Disney villain [[wikipedia:Maleficent|Maleficent]].
* Airachnid went her entire introductory episode without transforming into a true [[alternate mode]], only from biped-mode to spider-legs mode and back. This is due to her not scanning an alternate mode until "[[Crisscross]]".
* The said alternate mode doesn't really make sense: Airachnid scanned Agent Fowler's Bell 212 Huey helicopter, but she somehow ended up with a stylized RAH-66 stealth helicopter alt mode.
* The existence of the name "Airachnid" was first revealed when Hasbro filed an intent-to-use [http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=77892423 trademark application] for the term with the US Trademark and Patent Office. However, the application was eventually denied for registration.<ref>[http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/beast-wars-2/case-closed---goodbye-airachnid-170451/ "Case Closed – Goodbye Airachnid"]</ref>.
* Deluxe Airachnid's electro-stingers are modeled after the [[Null-ray#Prime_cartoon|Null-ray]] Knock Out offered Starscream in "[[Shadowzone (episode)|Shadowzone]]".
* In the Japanese dub of ''Prime'', Airachnid's personality is completely different from her US interpretation. In the dub, she is a bubbly, giggling, high-strung chatterbox that is obsessed with collecting handsome boys as trophies. Played up as something of a female Pepe Le Pew, she constantly swoons over Jack, calling him her "hunk", her "darling", her "cutie Jack-chan" and various other lovey-dovey remarks as she amorously pursues him (even going so far as to sing love songs to him, mid-chase). While her sadistic qualities remain, she's played more like a creepy stalker girl than a vicious psychopath. Airachnid is dubbed by [[Ryōka Yuzuki]], the actress who dubbed ''Beast Wars'' [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Black Widow]] and ''Animated'' [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]], and so many of the quirks she conceived for those characters (such as a habit of making a hissing ''tshaaaaa--'' noise) are present. Likewise, the constant, incessant talking seems to be a throwback to the "adlibbing" prevalent in the Japanese dub of ''Beast Wars''.
'''During the third relic hunt, Ratchet and Wheeljack get a one-of-a-kind opportunity when Soundwave's Deployer is disabled.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] rendezvous with [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] in a wooded area to search for the third of four relics. Though Wheeljack rubs Ratchet up the wrong way, they take off in the ''[[Jackhammer (Prime)|Jackhammer]]'' to find the relic and soon pick up [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] as company. After Wheeljack dogfights with Soundwave for a few minutes, Soundwave releases [[Laserbeak (Prime)|Laserbeak]] to take over the attack on the ship. Wheeljack is more than happy to chase Laserbeak instead, though as they chase the drone, it almost causes them to hit the side of a mountain, much to Ratchet's panic. He finally scores a hit on Laserbeak, but as it goes down, a random shot hits the ''Jackhammer'', bringing the ship down as well.

Ratchet is keen to resume the search for the relic, but Wheeljack spots the downed Laserbeak. They examine it, and Wheeljack hits on the idea of planting a grenade in it to provide the Decepticons with a surprise. It gives Ratchet a better idea—implanting a virus to get them access to the ''[[Trypticon (Prime)|Nemesis]]'' computer and hack the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] database. He contacts base and asks [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]] to prepare a virus. At Raf's suggestion, they implant a grenade into Laserbeak as well to provide a decoy that the Decepticons will find and throw them off the scent of the virus. Wheeljack leaves Ratchet to find Soundwave so he can buy Ratchet time.

Meanwhile, Soundwave has located the relic, the [[Resonance Blaster]], and dug it up. Wheeljack quickly locates him and attacks. They trade blows until Soundwave relieves Wheeljack of a sword and uses his tentacles to throw the Autobot around. Wheeljack manages to use Soundwave's tentacles against each other and cracks the Decepticon's visor with his head. They go flying off the cliff, but Wheeljack finally has Soundwave at his mercy, at least until Soundwave grabs the Resonance Blaster with a tentacle and uses it on Wheeljack.

Ratchet and Raf begin uploading the virus into Laserbeak, but as they need it online to do so, the drone activates and tries to fly off, forcing Ratchet to hold it down. Soundwave is about to finish off Wheeljack when he detects activity from Laserbeak and heads off to investigate. Wheeljack has time to warn Ratchet before falling unconscious, and the virus download finishes in time for Ratchet to hide before Soundwave arrives. After some tense moments, the Decepticon picks up Laserbeak, but appears to be alerted to Ratchet. Soundwave's tentacles venture into Ratchet's hiding place, but as it turns out they're merely after a lost piece of Laserbeak. Having retrieved it, Soundwave heads off back to the ''Nemesis''. Ratchet, unable to raise Wheeljack, goes to help his comrade.

[[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] is happy with Soundwave's find, though disappointed at [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]]'s and [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]]'s performances. Megatron has Knock Out examine Laserbeak and they find the grenade which Knock Out disposes of (after some initial panic). Soundwave returns to working on the Iacon database, where Megatron and Knock Out have a conversation in the back about Soundwave, that he WILL provide the coordinates of the remaining relics. After that, Megatron orders Knock Out to repair Soundwave's vizor. Knock Out frowns at Soundwave secretly.

Returning to the ''Jackhammer'', Ratchet calls for a [[GroundBridge]], having forged a mutual respect with Wheeljack. He bridges back to base, where the computers are busily downloading the Iacon database. A short time later, Raf reports that [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] is returning to base, but as they open the GroundBridge, Bulkhead comes flying through, his back smoking.

==Notes==
===Animation and technical errors===
* The sound normally used for an arm weapon transforming is used as Soundwave straightens his fingers before fighting Wheeljack.
* As Soundwave stands over Wheeljack at the edge of the cliff, Laserbeak can be seen on his chest.
*The ends of Soundwave's tentacles can be seen on his chest as he stands over Wheeljack with the Resonance Blaster on his arm, as if they weren't fully retracted.

===Continuity errors===
*It's implied at the end of "[[Loose Cannons]]" that Wheeljack leaves the ''Jackhammer'' back at the Autobot base to explore Earth in his new vehicle mode, but in this episode he has it with him already when Ratchet GroundBridges to him.

===Continuity notes===
* This episode happens concurrently with the previous two and the following one. Knock Out returns from his mission in "[[Tunnel Vision]]", which was a failure, and [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] has already returned after losing the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]] to [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] in "[[Triangulation]]". On the Autobot side of things, Bulkhead returns from his mission, which takes place in the [[Toxicity|following episode]], diving through the GroundBridge with severe damage to his back.

===Transformers references===

===Real-world references===
* For those who are wondering, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turducken turducken is real.]

===Trivia===
* Laserbeak is named for the first time in-series.
* Isn't it ironic that Soundwave, the cuminications officer; finds a weapon that has sonic cababilitys?
